'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' Is The Second Biggest U.S. Opener Of All Time
But "Avengers: Age of Ultron" failed to top the all-time record of the first film's $207.4 million debut in 2012. Although "Ultron" was the only new film in wide release this weekend, it had some significant small screen competition: The Kentucky Derby, the NBA playoffs, and the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight.
Numbers could shift by the time Monday actuals roll in, but it seems the robust counter-programming may have blockaded another record for Marvel and Disney.
Still, for Disney's head of distribution Dave Hollis, the weekend was a "spectacular result" for the film, which cost a reported $250 million to produce.
Playing on 4,276 screens, the audiences for "Ultron's" debut were 59 percent male and 41 percent under the age of 25.
"We're in rare air here," said Hollis. "Having the second biggest opening weekend in the history of the movie business is always going to be something you walk away overwhelmingly happy with. The momentum of the brand for Marvel at this point is really something to take a step back and admire."
Marvel and Disney now boast the top three opening weekends of all time with "Avengers" and its sequel taking the top two slots and "Iron Man 3" in third place.
Hollis said this is "confirmation" that these films are "bringing a completely different kind of filmmaking to cinema. They're creating events and characters and building worlds in a way that is drawing the attention of huge crowds."
Rentrak's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian agreed that the failure to top the first film is "in no way" a disappointment.
"You have to put this into perspective. Considering the level of competition this weekend in the sporting world, it shows that movie going holds its own against all other options," he said.
Also, while the first film's $207.4 million haul might just seem like a new benchmark to hit, Dergarabedian was quick to point out that opening above $200 million was "literally like breaking the box office sound barrier."
Instead of a new industry standard, a $200 million opening might continue to be an industry rarity.
"Ultron's" future success is not in doubt either.
"These other options were single events. 'Avengers' has a very long playing time. This is a journey to $1 billion and beyond," he said.
With $168 million in international sales this weekend, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" has grossed $627 million globally in just 12 days. The film has yet to open in China and Japan.
The rest of the top five was populated with holdovers, "The Age of Adaline," ''Furious 7," ''Paul Blart: Mall Cop," and the animated "Home."

Kanye West Just Changed The Title Of His Next Album To 'SWISH'
The rapper took to Twitter on Sunday to announce the new name of his follow-up to 2013's "Yeezus." The previously titled "So Help Me God" has now been renamed "SWISH."
But don't get too comfortable with the new name. The Time 100 cover star said in a second tweet that the name may change again.

I might change it again but that’s the name now

But wait, doesn't "SWISH" sound familiar? Why, yes, yes it does.
West initially tweeted the word (multiple times) along with NSFW nude photos of wife Kim Kardashian to celebrate her 30 million Twitter followers, as well as the Season 10 premiere of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

With 'Welcome To Me,' Kristen Wiig Dons Her Newfound Indie Crown
Kristen Wiig, on the other hand, has been quietly breaking with her "SNL" heritage since exiting the show in 2012, and this year offers a trifecta of films in which the she not only masters dramatic roles -- she is a marvel in them.
First up is "Welcome to Me," which opened in select theaters this weekend and expands nationwide on May 8. Wiig's best role since "Bridesmaids," the film casts her as Alice Klieg, an Oprah-obsessed hermit with borderline personality disorder who uses her $86 million lottery winnings to fund her own daytime talk show. Its topics, all of which revolve around Alice, are very un-Oprah-like. Instead of finding "aha moments," Alice devours an entire piece of homemade meatloaf cake (after discussing its "carbohydrant" quantity), reenacts melodramatic moments from her adolescence and neuters dogs on live television. That description sounds like one long "SNL" sketch, and parts of "Welcome to Me" very well could have been. But that's what makes the movie a perfect interlude in Wiig's career: The accessories of her broad-comedy background are intact, but what resounds is a heartfelt character study that never reduces Alice's mental condition to a punch line.
Wiig, whose participation in movies like Paul Feig's female-centered "Ghostbusters" reboot indicate she hasn't abandoned big-budget comedies, does not think of her indie-film trajectory as strategic. In fact, while discussing "Welcome to Me" earlier this week, Wiig told The Huffington Post that she receives fewer "SNL"-esque scripts than one might imagine. There's a misperception, then, that her dramatic parts -- which have recently included "Hateship, Loveship" and "The Skeleton Twins" -- mean she is drifting away from the comedic realm. "It's just the timing of it," she promised.
Still, by the end of 2015, audiences will have a fuller interpretation of Wiig's range. In August, the '70s-set "Diary of a Teenage Girl," based on Phoebe Gloeckner's graphic novel of the same name, will arrive with almost no "SNL" trappings whatsoever. One of this year's Sundance Film Festival standouts, the dramedy finds Wiig playing Charlotte Worthington, a self-absorbed Patty Heast obsessive glued to the halcyon hippie days that have just passed her by. Meanwhile, Charlotte's boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgård) is having an affair with her dumpy teenage daughter (Bel Powley). Powley is at the film's center, but Wiig's performance is her most dynamic work yet. In Charlotte, she captures both the anger and idealism that boiled beneath 1974 San Francisco as it reeled from Watergate and the Vietnam War.
Also due out in the near future is "Nasty Baby," an even smaller-scale indie about a gay couple in Brooklyn (Sebastián Silva and Tunde Adebimpe) attempting to have a baby with their close friend. A down-to-earth Wiig portrays said friend in the movie, which begins mostly as a comedy before its third act takes a swift dive into thriller territory.
After premiering at Sundance, "Nasty Baby" was acquired without a set release date. If it opens in 2015, the movie could be sandwiched between Wiig's part in this summer's bombastic heist comedy "Masterminds" -- the latest offering from "Napoleon Dynamite" director Jared Hess -- and a supporting role in Ridley Scott's much-anticipated "The Martian," which could factor into next year's Oscar race.
For "Welcome to Me" director Shira Piven, there was never any doubt that the same actress who gave us Target Lady and Gilly would fit firmly into Eliot Laurence's script, which Piven helped to develop. She told HuffPost she was targeting an actress who existed in a "comic space" and could stretch into dramatic characterizations, rather than the other way around -- Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation," for example. (Were she to recruit a dramatic actress who can pull off comedy, Piven said Kate Winslet would have been her first choice, citing "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" as evidence.)
"We batted around a lot of lists of actresses, but in my mind she was really the one," Piven said of Wiig. "I love those performances from comic actors who are asked to do something really heartbreaking."
Wiig was the first to sign on, and a slew of others followed: Linda Cardellini as Alice's patient best friend; Tim Robbins as her patient therapist; James Marsden, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Joan Cusack as the patient network executives who supervise Alice's show.
Wiig acknowledges that Alice is hard to like, but because the character occupies some of the same fictional space that her "SNL" roles did, Alice's idiosyncrasies -- often tied to the demonstrative facial expressions that highlight Wiig's humor -- accentuate the character's oddities without dehumanizing her.
"Eliot wrote such a detailed description of this character that I kind of just pictured it in my head as I was reading it," she said. "It was so great just having him on set, even for little things like saying, 'I feel like when I walk maybe I should be a little stiff up top.' He was like, 'Oh yeah, show me. Yeah, that feels like her.' Because she has a mental illness, I wanted to be respectful of it and not comment on it and not make fun of her in any way, and if comedy came out of it, it was because of her just doing something funny, not because she’s sick."
There's something similar happening in "The Diary of a Teenage Girl," where Wiig is in full bad-mother mode. Unlikeable for entirely different reasons, the character still manages to ignite sympathy because Wiig's performance is full-bodied in both appearance and actions.
In keeping, this transition to deeper storytelling seems natural for someone whose more memorable "Saturday Night Live" moments seemed to inhabit her entire body, à la Dooneese and impressions of Suze Orman and Liza Minnelli. In the same way that Wiig's Oscar-nominated screenplay for "Bridesmaids" (written with Annie Mumolo) was heralded as a watershed for women in comedy, the future of Wiig's career seems destined to become one of the "SNL" roster's big-screen triumphs.
That's the mark of a prosperous "Saturday Night Live" departure: a career that draws from and dismisses its sketch-comedy roots in the same breath. Meet Kristen Wiig, burgeoning indie queen.

Did 'Game Of Thrones' Just Kill Off Two Characters?
This week's episode had a seduction scene, introduced us to the Sand Snakes and, wait, did two characters just get killed off?! George R.R. Martin warned fans that characters who are still alive in the books would die this season on the show, and it looks like those deaths are about to bring the shock-factor. Here's what went down, and excuse us for jumping to the end of the episode first, but we just can't wait!
Spoiler alert for Season 5, Episode 4 "The Sons of the Harpy"
Are Ser Barristan and Grey Worm dead?
Barristan Selmy and Grey Worm spent the final minutes of the episode clashing swords with the masked Sons of the Harpy. But did the show just kill off these two characters who are still alive in George R.R. Martin's books? Selmy falls to the ground severely wounded after he's saved by a less-wounded Grey Worm. If both of them are gone for good, that would leave Daenerys with a major loss in terms of protection and counsel. It was also surprising to see the rebels defeat Ser Barristan, who is known as one of the best sword fighters in the Seven Kingdoms. Let's pray to the old gods and the new that both men show up again next week.
Melisandre hits on Jon Snow
Kit Harington hinted at a Melisandre romance and now we know what he was talking about. The Red Woman comes on to Jon Snow , straddling him and unbuttoning her dress -- she certainly has a thing for bastard boys, remember Gendry? But Jon refuses her. Why? Because he's a big emotional puppy who misses his dead girlfriend. Oh, and because he knows nada. (But still, it's a smart choice.)
Cersei gets Loras locked up
After Cersei gives the Faith of the Seven an army and makes the High Sparrow the chosen representative of the Seven, all hell (no religious puns intended) breaks loose in King's Landing. Cersei has Loras Tyrell locked up for sleeping with men while Olyvar, who is Loras' and previously Oberyn's lover, flees the brothel after the religious fanatics capture another gay man.
Tommen proves he is nothing but a boy
He may be the Protector of the Realm, but Tommen can't get anyone to listen to him. The king fails to even get close to the High Sparrow to request Loras' release. Margaery is not pleased.
Jaime kicks Dornish butt with one hand
Jaime and Bronn finally arrive in Dorne, but are met by a group of Dornishmen on horses. Yet the one-handed Kingslayer continues to slay. Also, barbecued snake on a stick doesn't look half bad.
Meet the Sand Snakes!
Finally, after months of hype around these new characters, we got to meet the Sand Snakes. There's Obara, Nym and Tyene, or three of the most badass girls in the Seven Kingdoms. They're ready to side with Ellaria to get revenge after their father Oberyn's death, which definitely means danger once they run into Jaime.
Littlefinger reveals his plan
Marrying Sansa off to Ramsay Bolton wasn't just so she could "avenge" her murdered family. The sneaky Petyr Baelish finally revealed that it's all a part of a plan for Sansa to become Wardeness of the North once Stannis defeats the Boltons and takes the Iron Throne. But in the meantime, Littlefinger is leaving poor Sansa all alone with the psycho Bolton boy.
Even Tyrion knows Jorah is desperate
Leave it to Tyrion Lannister to be the prisoner who figures out his captor's plan while being tied up on a boat. Tyrion reads the poor unfortunate Jorah Mormont down to his core and figures out that he's only kidnapped him as a way to get back in Daenerys' good graces. But will it work? I have a feeling these two outcasts are going to become buddies.

Actress Grace Lee Whitney, Yeoman Janice Rand On Original 'Star Trek' Series, Is Dead At 85
The versatile actress and vocalist was born Mary Ann Chase in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1930. She was adopted by the Whitney family, and as a teenager, began her career in entertainment as a singer and dancer. She eventually became interested in acting and in 1966, clinched a role as Yeoman Janice Rand, a personal assistant to William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk in the first season of the original “Star Trek” TV series.
Whitney later appeared in several “Star Trek” films, including “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” “The Search for Spock,” “The Voyage Home” and “The Undiscovered Country.”
Her autobiography, “The Longest Trek: My Tour of the Galaxy,” was published in 1998. For many years, Whitney was a fixture at “Star Trek” conventions around the world.
As news of Whitney’s passing spread Sunday, many “Star Trek” fans praised the actress for her on-screen talent, and remembered harboring “TV crushes” on the blond beauty. She was “one of the great women of Trek,” TrekMovie.com tweeted. Co-star Shatner wrote that Whitney "was a constant shining smile."
Condolences to the family of Grace. She was a constant shining smile over the years every time our paths crossed.
— William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) May 4, 2015
Whitney was also remembered by fans as being kind, warm and gracious in person, who always took the time to mingle with her fans.
(Story continues below)
Whitney’s other acting credits include an appearance in the Broadway show “Top Banana,” and films like “Irma la Douce” and “The Man from Galveston. ” She also made appearances on several TV shows, including “Bewitched,” “Death Valley Days” and “The Outer Limits.”
Though Whitney is best remembered as an actress, her family told NBC News that her “preference would be to be remembered as a ‘successful survivor of addiction.’” Whitney was a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and had reportedly spent the last 35 years of her life helping others with addiction problems, including volunteering at women’s correctional facilities.
"Grace experienced 35 years of sobriety through continuous fellowship with others and through God and Jesus," her family told NBC.
In 2011, Whitney described her life as a happy -- and sober -- grandmother living on a 30-acre property near Yosemite National Park.
"[My son] Jonathan built a home down at the end of my property, where he lives with his family, including my grandchildren," Whitney said. "They’re going to take care of me as I move through life to my home in heaven. But right now I take my grandchildren to school and cart them around, and I’m of maximum service to them... I also line dance one night a week and I go to the gym three days a week. So, my life is happy, joyous, free, sober and saved, and a lot of fun, too. I have a lot of fun."

Microsoft Will Now Let You Give People The Finger Via Emoji
As Gizmodo reported Monday, Windows 10 will allow users to send and receive a hand with the middle finger extended. The update will come with a couple of upgrades for existing emojis, like a "sassier" image for the "information desk person," which you probably thought was a woman flipping her hair sarcastically.
Per Emojipedia, the middle finger will look like this on Windows:
As part of the update, which is expected later this year, you'll be able to apply a range of skin tone modifiers to emojis, so you can insult your friends with a true melting pot of middle fingers.
The middle finger has technically been possible to implement since last year, but most services don't allow it to display. Thus, Windows users might be stuck flipping each other off, since their iPhone-wielding friends won't be able to see such an insult.
Windows 10 will be available on almost every type of device imaginable, but emoji are perhaps best associated with smartphones, where they're plugged into texts and tweets. On that front, Microsoft has a bit of an uphill battle, as Windows Phone represents a very small portion of the marketplace.

James Taylor Has A New Song About The Boston Red Sox
The honey-voiced singer-songwriter has penned a song about his beloved Boston Red Sox and their long-suffering fan base.
It's called "Angels of Fenway," and it premiered Sunday with a video on the scoreboard at the Yankees-Red Sox game in Boston's Fenway Park. It has plenty of references to the Yankees' longtime dominance in the rivalry. (See the music video above.)
"Eighty-six summers gone by/ Bambino put a hex on the team/ We were living on a tear and a sigh/ In the shadow of the Bronx machine," the song begins.
The Boston-born Taylor spent most of his youth in North Carolina, but still visited Massachusetts in the summer. He devotes some of the song to his grandmother's loyalty to the team.
The chorus goes, "Angels of Fenway, hear our prayer/ We have been chastened, we have been patient."
Of course, the sentimental ode heads toward the cathartic autumn of 2004 when the Red Sox scrapped back from a 3 games to 0 deficit to defeat the Yankees in the ALCS and then sweep the Cardinals to win the World Series for the first time since 1918.
"Oh my God, it was beyond belief," Taylor sings.
The historic win ushered in a new era of success for the Red Sox, who have won two more Series titles since.
Taylor, who threw out the first pitch and sang "America the Beautiful" during the seventh inning stretch (photo below), said in a statement: "In 2004, that miracle season, that incredible thing that happened and what it meant to Red Sox fans, and to the city of Boston, to all of New England … it moved me deeply and I knew I wanted to write about it.”

Mom Loses It When Her Dancer Son Reveals He's Booked A World Tour With Taylor Swift
A video uploaded to YouTube captures a phone call between dancer Robert Green and his mother. In it, the dancer tells her that he's booked a world tour -- specifically Taylor Swift's 1989 tour. It's clear that his mom is a little more than excited.
Watch at the 0:13 point when Green says to his mother, "I booked a world tour." Seconds later, you can hear his mom completely lose it and start screaming with joy. Another round of screaming occurs after he reveals at the 0:24 mark that the tour is Swift's.
The entire video may be almost 5 minutes long, however, Green's mom's excitement doesn't die down throughout the whole clip.
But mom wasn't the only one who was ecstatic. Taylor herself tweeted the video, saying, "I feel so lucky to get to perform alongside people who love it this much."

Watch Justin Timberlake Play A Sad Washed-Up Lime In His Weird Tequila Ad
In a new commercial for Sauza 901 Tequila, the pop singer plays a washed-up lime named Rick Sour Vane who is out of work since tequila apparently doesn't need lime slices anymore. Timberlake's mold-covered lime recounts the good ol' days of the lime's popularity as he sits by a pool, sad and desolate.

Met Gala 2015 Red Carpet: See All The Stunning Dresses Of The Night
The annual ball, which formally kicks off the Metropolitan Museum of Art's yearly Costume Institute exhibit, is arguably the most stylish night of the year and one of the few times celebrities and influencers take real fashion risks.
This year, the theme of the night was "Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion," so we saw a lot of embellished floral motifs and touches of red.
Some standout looks included Sarah Jessica Parker in a custom H&M gown and Philip Treacy headpiece, as well as Solange Knowles in Giles Deacon.

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Take Over The Met Gala Red Carpet
All eyes were on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West as they walked the red carpet at the 2015 Met Gala on Monday in New York City. Kardashian looking incredible in a white and gold sheer gown with a feather train by Peter Dundas for Roberto Cavalli, while West looked dapper in a black suit.
Kardashian has been posting about the gala all day, sharing information about her dress and photos from last year's big event:
Just finished my final Met dress fitting with none other than Peter Dundas for @Roberto_Cavalli This will be his 1st dress for Cavalli!

Unfortunately for the Instagram queen, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is cracking down on social media and phone usage at this year’s ball. George Clooney And Amal Alamuddin Break Hearts On The Met Gala 2015 Red Carpet
Alamuddin's strapless red John Galliano dress was obviously inspired by the "Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion" theme. The structured bodice and tiered skirt gave her gown visual interest, while her side-swept waves added an old Hollywood touch.
Clooney looked dapper wearing a black Armani suit, red pocket square and his signature salt and pepper slicked-back hair.

Here Are The Sarah Jessica Parker Memes From The 2015 Met Gala
She's no stranger to extravagant headpieces, especially when it comes to the most glamorous ball of the year. Back in 2013, Parker donned a decked-out mohawk for the Punk gala.
In anticipation of tonight's theme, "China: Through The Looking Glass," there were worries that celebrities and stylish influencers would flood the red carpet with offensive and ridiculous garb. While some starlets kept their cool and avoided the topic at hand, there were (of course) instances of outrageous looks that surpass the point of judgement.
Enter in SJP's Philip Treacy headpiece, which had jaws dropping and social media firing up with memes comparing her to various cartoon characters, like Jafar from "Aladdin."
See the memes that prove that the Internet clearly has no chill.

Robert Pattinson And FKA Twigs Have The Look Of Love At The Met Gala
The couple, who are reportedly engaged, had the look of love while they posed for photos. FKA Twigs wore a multi-colored gown adorned with sketches of body parts by Christopher Kane while Pattinson looked handsome in a crisp black suit.
Pattinson and FKA Twigs have been dating since September. Engagement rumors started to swirl around the duo last month after T-Pain seemingly confirmed the news in an interview with Vulture, but he later claimed it was an April Fool's Day joke. Still, People reports the duo is set to walk down the aisle.
