Drag Race Star Alaska Met Her Music Video's Director on Scruff

Don't be surprised if Alaska Thunderfuck pops up next time you turn on a mobile dating app! While many gay men log on to Grindr, Scruff and the like to window shop while bored, meet a mate or interact with locals when traveling -- not to mention find more immediate gratification -- it's strictly business for the RuPaul's Drag Race star.

2014-08-03-Alaska.jpg

"I don't really hook up with people from Scruff, because I'm, like, in drag in my Scruff profile," clarified Thunderfuck during a recent telephone interview, "But I do find it useful for business opportunities and getting people to send me naked pictures of themselves."

OK, so maybe it's not strictly business, but her career definitely takes precedence. According to the Season 5 standout, she was introduced to the director of her current music video on Scruff!

"We didn't hook up or anything," clarified Thunderfuck of Sasa Numic, who lensed "Your Makeup Is Terrible." "In this case, I got a really fun opportunity to meet an amazing, aspiring filmmaker. He was really excited to work with me, and it just worked out."

I'll say!

The resulting collaboration sees the diva sashaying, shante-ing and even mocking her captive male alter ego before seemingly self-destructing as the video reaches its climactic conclusion. To date, it's amassed nearly half a million YouTube views.

The star said the song itself, like its accompanying video, happened organically. In fact, the concept and song's title were hand-delivered by fans. Said Thunderfuck, "It's not like I even had to ask myself, 'What will the next song be about?'"

As one of the busiest alumni from the popular LOGO reality competition, which annually crowns "America's Next Drag Superstar," Thunderfuck performs at nightclubs and Pride festivals and makes public appearances worldwide. Everywhere she went, people were saying, "Your makeup is terrible," a memorable quotation taken from her season's "perfume challenge."

"It just became really popular," explained Thunderfuck. "People were making memes online about it. I was like, 'I really need to do something with this.'"

After downloading music from an online website -- "It was on sale for, like, $6," the entertainer bragged -- Thunderfuck penned the lyrics while sitting in an airport during one of her countless travel experiences. Several live performances of the song proved to be a hit, so the video followed.

"It was a long process, so it had a lot of evolution," the gender-bender stated. "But that's basically how it came about."

2014-08-03-SexInTheCity.jpg

Despite the song's success, Thunderfuck is not content to rest on her laurels. Though currently featured as "Charlotte" in Sex in the City: Live, a campy San Francisco staging of the popular television series starring Bay Area favorites Heklina (Carrie), Lady Bear (Miranda) and D'Arcy Drollinger (Samantha), she is already planning her next musical project.

Regarding her upcoming release, titled -- naturally -- "Nails," Thunderfuck explained, "The moral of the song is: If you're not wearing nails, you're not doing drag."

Known in part for her long, ornate, almost claw-like nails, the superstar wrote the song a while back. "Definitely a portrait of a certain time in [her] life," she calls "Nails" "a message for young, starting-out queens to not neglect the detail of their hands when getting themselves in drag."

"Drag is about the face," said Thunderfuck of this cautionary tale (so be sure your makeup is not terrible), "but the secondary thing is about the hands."

The lyrics and music are already in place. Up next, said Thunderfuck, is the "Nails" music video.

To find out how to get involved, presumably, hit her up on Scruff.

Alaska Thunderfuck stars in Sex in the City: Live, running Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m. until Aug. 10 at San Francisco's Victoria Theatre. Click here for additional information.

'Frozen' Scribe Jennifer Lee Signs On To Write Big-Screen Adaptation Of 'A Wrinkle In Time'

Another of your middle-school favorites is one step closer to the big screen. Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 classic "A Wrinkle in Time" has been gestating at Disney since 2010, and now Variety reports that "Frozen" writer and co-director Jennifer Lee has signed on to pen the script.

"A Wrinkle in Time" tells the story of a young girl whose scientist father goes missing after completing a mysterious time-traveling project. She then sets out -- through time and alternate worlds -- to track him down.

Jeff Stockwell ("Bridge to Terabithia") wrote an initial script in 2010, but the movie's development stalled. There's no word on whether Disney's efforts will extend to the other books in L'Engle's Time Quartet, which also includes “A Wind in the Door,” “Many Waters” and “A Swiftly Tilting Planet.”

No director or casting decisions have been announced. This will mark the second "A Wrinkle in Time" film, the first being a 2003 television movie that L'Engle openly disliked. "I expected it to be bad, and it is," she told Newsweek in 2004.

Here's hoping for better luck this time.

Dwyane Wade And Gabrielle Union's Save-The-Date Is Just As Cute As They Are

Dwyane Wade popped the question to actress Gabrielle Union in December 2013 with the help of his two sons and his nephew. Now, thanks to TMZ Sports, we get to see some of the adorable proposal footage.

The NBA star's sons Zion and Zaire and nephew Dahveon held up signs which read, "Nickie, will you marry us?" (Nickie is Union’s nickname). Then, Wade got down on one knee and gave a big ol' diamond ring to a very giddy Union.

The couple is set to tie the knot in a social media-free wedding in Miami on August 30th.

This Is What Happens When You Give Musicians A Disposable Camera

Lollapalooza performers mugged it up hard in Chicago last weekend. There were professional photo shoots and fancy set-ups with themed backdrops, expensive video cameras and stunning portraits. HuffPost Entertainment opted for the bootleg. We asked these artists to take over our disposable camera. "Take a selfie!" we suggested. They obliged and we learned a few things about the art of using a '90s Kodak. (Also, forced peace signs are seemingly still relevant.)

Selena Gomez's Rep Says You've Been Looking At Topless Photos Of A Random Woman, Not Selena

0

There are some topless photos that purport to be the naked bosoms of former Disney star Selena Gomez floating around on the Internet, but the 22-year-old's rep says no dice.

Cell phone photos of a topless brunette woman caught the attention of Hollywood Life after a Tumblr user pointed out that the woman and Gomez appear to share the same placement of moles on her chest in an effort to authenticate the images.

Someone sure has a keen eye, but Gomez's rep told Gossip Cop that the topless woman in the photo is “not her.”

What's more, a quick Google image search shows that the images, along with more racy snapshots, were uploaded to Imgur 10 months ago. Still, if you aren't 100 percent satisfied with the rep's answer it appears there has been quite a bit of discussion on Reddit in recent weeks as to the authenticity of the photos, if you are really passionate about the subject.

Chrissy Teigen Was 'Pretty Drunk' When She Threw This First Pitch

Here's what happened when Chrissy Teigen was invited to throw the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers game on Aug. 6:

First of all, Teigen's outfit was totally on point: a Dodgers jersey, short shorts and a blue hair bow for good luck:

The only thing left to nail was the pitch. So she practiced throwing with her dad:

But another thing she practiced with Dad? Drinking margaritas before the game...

...Which ultimately resulted in this tweet:

Then Teigen thought a pep talk with a player would help her get it together. Drew Butera looked slightly unamused:

Finally, the moment of truth arrived:

Anddddd she crushed it! But every victory comes with a price:

We love you, Chrissy.

Katie Holmes On Life After Tom Cruise: 'I Never Really Look Back'

0

Katie Holmes is moving on after her divorce from Tom Cruise.

While appearing on the "Today" show on Wednesday, Aug. 6, to discuss her upcoming role in "The Giver," Matt Lauer asked the actress if she would ever trade some of the fame that came along with her high-profile marriage to go back to the person she was beforehand.

"You know what?" Holmes responded. "I never really look back. I just approach life [taking] it one day at a time. I'm really excited about where I am right now. I've had some really wonderful creative experiences. I'm just really grateful."

Having first risen to fame for her role in '90s teen soap "Dawson's Creek," Holmes catapulted to the A-list through her highly-publicized marriage to Cruise, which began in November 2006. The couple welcomed a daughter, Suri Cruise, earlier that same year, and divorced in 2012.

Nowadays, Holmes is content to continue focusing on her acting career, and on raising her daughter, now 8.

On her upcoming role in "The Giver", the actress said, "I approached it like all mothers when their child is leaving the nest. There's a pain. There's a loss." And on her role as a real-life mother, the star continued, "The most important thing for me is letting [Suri] know how proud I am and her accomplishments mean everything. Whatever I do is whatever. It's really just about her. That's what I think is most important."

Elizabeth Banks Thanks Genetics For Her Body, Exposes The Fraud That Is Celebrity Fitness

0
0
Last week, Elizabeth Banks made celebrity headlines when she admitted she had not seen herself as pretty when she was younger.

"I didn’t quite believe I was pretty for a long time,” the actress said to New Look magazine. “I never thought about it. I’m very genetically blessed,” she continued. “I cannot deny it, but I work hard at keeping myself together. Yes, I have nice cheekbones and skinny legs but I can’t take any credit for it.”

While it's surprising when a celebrity says anything remotely self-effacing about their looks, there's something even more remarkable about Banks' quote than the sentiment. In a culture where diet and fitness are viewed as a gateway to a "celebrity body," Banks attributing her own physique to anything other than working her butt off is almost revolutionary.

If you reside in a place with regular access to popular television, magazines, or the Internet, it’s likely difficult to get through a single day without an onslaught of articles telling you how to “GET JENNIFER ANISTON’S ABS…in 30 DAYS OR LESS.” Interviews where celebrities thank their Pilates instructors, grilled salmon dinners and Soul Cycle Wednesdays as the sole sources of their traditionally attractive bodies are commonplace. There is so little variation in actress' response to fitness-related questions that I sometimes wonder if entrance into the exclusive A-list comes with a script spelling out a finite list of potential options. (Pilates, green juice, and lean meat would all make frequent appearances.)

The cultural narrative underlying these articles, while never spoken out loud, is clear: Celebrities have thin, normatively attractive bodies because they work hard for them. If you don’t have the body of a celebrity, it’s because you’re not putting in the work.

Genetics not even coming in to play, the logic behind admiring bodies that are hard to achieve completely falls in on itself: Why must we value bodies that come from a lot of work? Why do we prefer those we believe to be “physically disciplined”? How does this logic apply to bodies that don’t conform to societal standards of attractiveness, but do adhere to societally endorsed routines of exercise?

But even without delving into the our culture’s greater obsession with asceticism, Banks' comment (which falls in line with previous ones the star has made on the subject) reveals the fraudulence of the celebrity fitness myth. By attributing her skinny legs to genetics and not a “five-step celeb workout," the actress suggests she didn’t have any kind of superior discipline which allowed her to achieve the look. Moreover, Banks is asserting that there’s no concrete exercise those at home can perform to get those same lean limbs (save from being born of her same lineage, which, good luck with that). Nobody doubts that many Hollywood stars put in a lot of effort to keep up with society’s increasingly stringent standards of beauty. But in a reality where the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders cites a statistic that says only 5 percent of American females naturally possess the body type portrayed in advertising as the ideal, Banks acknowledges the additional -- often ignored -- truth that a good portion of those stars also have bodies that are predisposed to take on a traditionally attractive physical form in response to their work.

By going “off script,” the actress exposes the billion-dollar diet and fitness industries to questions they'd likely not wish to face: If we can’t get Elizabeth Banks’ legs no matter the weight-loss products, boutique gym memberships and personal training videos we purchase, then why should we give away our money in the first place? Follow that line of inquiry one step further and it becomes: Why should we place more value on a single type of body that so many people cannot physically achieve no matter what, and that some people can achieve through no work at all?

Upholding the idea that anyone can get a “celeb bod” with enough work creates an environment in which the oppression of non-thin people is normalized through the logic that they are “choosing” to not put in the effort to get a so-called "better" look. That exact kind of attitude leads to widespread issues of size discrimination in this country. Acknowledging genetic diversity, however, recognizes that it’s not actually better (or worse) to be thin -- a fact that if widely accepted could strip the weight loss and fitness industries of their cultural power, and improve the lives of those 95 percent of people whose bodies fall outside the narrow media ideal.

'Batman V Superman' Release Date Moves To March 25, 2016

0
For the second time this year, Warner Bros. has changed the release date for "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." The studio announced on Wednesday that Zack Snyder's film would arrive on March 25, 2016, six weeks before its previous release date of May 6, 2016. The new calendar position is the third overall for Snyder's "Man of Steel" follow-up: "Batman V Superman" was originally slated to debut on July 17, 2015.

This latest shift gets "Dawn of Justice" away from "Captain America 3," preventing a superhero clash between DC Comics (which owns Batman and Superman) and Marvel (which owns Captain America).

"We're certainly keeping the date there and we'll announce what that movie is, I assume, in the next few months," Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said in an interview with Slashfilm back in March. Feige wasn't lying: "Captain America 3" was revealed as the May 6, 2016 title shortly after his comments.

March is not considered a traditional blockbuster month, but studios have had success in recent years with titles such as "Divergent," "Oz The Great and Powerful," "The Hunger Games," "21 Jump Street" and "Alice in Wonderland."

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.

Steve Guttenberg Talks Working With Mary-Kate And Ashley Olsen In 'It Takes Two'

0

It's been almost 20 years since the seminal classic "It Takes Two" was released, which means the Olsen twins have officially been famous for 27-and-a-half years.

With "Full House" fame well under their belt by the time they shot the movie in 1995, the girls were surprisingly "very, very balanced and stable kids," according to Steve Guttenberg, their onscreen dad.

"They were adorable," he told HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri in an interview about his new film "Affluenza." "They came to my house once for a little pool party. They were great kids."

Behind the scenes of the iconic film, Guttenberg said he held races for the two girls with a 25-cent reward.

"I knew they were worth a billion dollars, [so] I'd win," he said. "I got like 50 cents out of it."

The actor, who sees the twins every "once and a while," affirmed that he had no trouble telling Mary-Kate from Ashley while filming.

"One of the girls has something a little distinguishing on her face," he said, though he wouldn't reveal exactly what it is.

A Look At Latin America's 'Jersey Shore'

0

MTV is taking some YOLO spirit from “Jersey Shore” and making the most out of the series’ success.

The network will soon start producing “Acapulco Shore,” a Mexican version of the hit show that will debut simultaneously on MTV Latin America and their U.S. bilingual channel MTV Tr3s, Variety reports.

The new reality series will follow the lives of eight young Mexicans living close to Acapulco, one of the country's most popular tourist destinations on its Pacific coast.

“We’re very proud to announce Acapulco as the center of production of the first Mexican version of the ‘Shore’ franchise, the energy here and its vibrant social day and nightlife are the perfect combination for the series,” Vice President of Viacom International Media Networks, which owns MTV, told Mexican daily El Universal.

The location is drastically different from “Jersey Shore,” which followed a group of friends living on the coast of New Jersey. The show ran from 2009 to 2012 and averaged almost 9 million viewers at the peak of its popularity, according to The Hollwood Reporter.

This won’t be the first time the network ventures to replicate the success of the series, MTV already has the U.K.’s “Geordie Shore,” Poland’s “Warsaw Shore” and Spain’s “Gandia Shore.”

“We’re confident that the Latin American version of the show will entertain and capture audiences the same way that its predecessors have around the world,” Brand Manager of MTV Latin America Mará Iregui said in a press release, according to El Universal.

The show has already begun to tease audiences on social media accounts, with photos of beach bodies behind banners that read “The right people for the wrong show.”

“Acapulco Shore” is set to premiere in September.

Miley Cyrus Poses In Ninja Turtle Undies, Continues To Document Her Hygiene Habits

We're betting it's not a part of the new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" marketing campaign, but odds are the producers probably wouldn't turn down a series of photos of Miley Cyrus posing in just her ninja turtle undies.

Of course, the turtles that adorn her underwear look like they are from the '80s cartoon rather than whatever CGI monstrosity awaits moviegoers when the film opens on Aug. 8, but whatever.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old star carries on the tradition of documenting her hygiene habits in the form of the pre- and post-shower selfie. Yep, that's a thing Miley Cyrus does. Maybe she thinks it's cool. Maybe she thinks it's shocking. Maybe she just a loves a good shower.

Cristiano Ronaldo Stars In The Single Weirdest Celebrity Endorsement We've Ever Seen

0
0
The most amazing thing about this product isn't the product itself (mainly because we aren't sure what it's supposed to do), but that someone persuaded soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to endorse it.

So odd is the product, a Japanese "facial fitness" device Vocative describes as "a Shake Weight for your face," that the ad doesn't even show Ronaldo using it.

Instead, the Real Madrid star musters a smiling glance at the contraption, which is meant to be held in his mouth, as it flaps wildly in his hands like a frightened bird.

It's a real shame, because this is what the people who actually use it in the commercial look like:

The Japan Times reports Ronaldo signed on to represent MTG, a Japanese beauty and wellness product manufacturer, in late July. "We thought Cristiano Ronaldo was the only person who can represent our product," MTG President and CEO Tsuyoshi Matsushita said during a July 22 press conference with the soccer player.

Alexis Bledel Marries Vincent Kartheiser In Secret Wedding

Congratulations go out to Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser!

Bledel's rep tells People that the "Gilmore Girls" star married Kartheiser, who plays Pete Campbell on "Mad Men," in a secret wedding ceremony in California back in June. Guests included Jon Hamm and "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner, according to Star Magazine.

Bledel, 32, and Kartheiser, 35, met on the set of "Mad Men" in 2012, when she was cast to play his mistress on the show's fifth season. The couple got engaged in March 2013.

Bledel was previously linked to fellow "Gilmore Girls" alum and co-star Milo Ventimiglia, whom she dated from December 2002 to July 2006.

A request for comment made to Bledel's rep was not immediately answered.

Steve Guttenberg Regrets Turning Down Lead 'Sharknado' Role

0

Steve Guttenberg has standards for roles, he told HuffPost Live on Wednesday, and therefore he turns down many offers. One of those came in the form of SyFy's surprise hit franchise "Sharknado."

Famous for his performances in the "Police Academy" movies and "Short Circuit," Guttenberg stopped by HuffPost Live to chat about his new film, "Affluenza," which came out July 11. The conversation turned to roles Guttenberg rebuffed.

"I got to tell you, I made a mistake. I turned down 'Sharknado,'" Guttenberg told host Ricky Camilleri. "They came to me, and I should've done it because it was a huge hit. It was a crazy movie."

"Sharknado" — a movie successful largely because of how ludicrous it is — was not the only success Guttenberg passed on. He also turned down hits like "Ghostbusters 2" and "Big," to name a couple.

'Awesome Baby Name' Site Helps Parents Pick Kids' Names Based On Domain Availability

0
0
A variety of factors go into choosing a baby name -- family traditions, popular trends, pronunciations and apparently, domain name availability.

Awesome Baby Name is a new online tool that allows parents to choose a name for their child based on website domain availability. Basically, the site asks parents to input their last name and baby's gender and then it generates a list of name options based on domains that haven't been purchased. So, you can guarantee that your child will have access to the URL of firstnamelastname.com.

Going one step further, each name option provided by Awesome Baby Name comes with a link to the domain name registrar namecheap.com, so parents can purchase their future child's domain name immediately.

Business partners Karen X. Cheng and Finbarr Taylor were inspired to create awesomebabyname.com after a conversation they had over lunch one day. Cheng was complaining that because she has a common name, she'll likely never get to own karencheng.com and "has had to battle with other people in the search rankings on Google," Taylor told The Huffington Post in an email. "She joked that she would ensure the domain name is available before naming her future child so they can avoid these issues," he added. "I then joked that there should be a service that does this for you."

Taylor is a software engineer and Cheng is a designer and marketer. Six months after their joking conversation, they built Awesome Baby Name together over the course of a weekend.

"It's important to give your children a fighting chance of having good SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in the 21st century," Taylor stated. "We use search engines all day long to answer our questions and find things, including people. Imagine being called John Smith and trying to get a ranking on Google search. It's important to give your child a unique name so that people, like potential employers, will be able to find them easily in the future."

Awesomebabyname.com just launched this week, but according to a "parents served" visitor tracker at the bottom of the homepage, it has already been used by over 176,000 people. Still, Taylor and Cheng can't guarantee that all of these visitors were actually parents seeking baby names for their own children. "Looking for celebrity names is pretty fun," he said. "Kate Kutcher and Maximus Gosling were some favorites we found."

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Breckin Meyer Speak Out On 'Negative' Dustin Diamond

0
0
When Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer stopped by HuffPost Live on Wednesday to chat about their TNT series "Franklin & Bash," the conversation turned to "Saved By The Bell" and Gosselaar's former co-star Dustin Diamond.

Diamond's book Behind The Bell will serve as the basis for an upcoming Lifetime movie about the hit '90s teen comedy. Gosselaar said he's only read excerpts of Diamond's book and has no involvement with the Lifetime movie, but he does take issue with what Diamond wrote.

"It is negative. That I must say. Everything I've heard about his book is that it is negative, and I don't remember those things because my experience on the show was very positive," Gosselaar said.

His "Franklin & Bash" co-star was much more vocal in his distaste for Diamond, who he called "such a dick," and added that Diamond is the only member of the cast who's expressed bitter memories about working on the show.

"I know Elizabeth [Berkley], Tiffani [Thiessen], Mario [Lopez], and everyone has nothing but awesome times to say about that, except for Dustin, and I'm like, 'That might be you, bro,'" Meyer said.

In an appearance on "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" last year, Diamond said he used a ghostwriter for his book and called it "another disappointment of mine." A second disappointment that he mentioned in that interview was his sex tape "Screeched." Diamond confessed that everything but his face was actually a "stunt person" in the tape, which Meyer told host Caitlyn Becker was obvious based on the size of the actor's manhood.

"Come on, Screech is not packing that. Get the hell out of here. He doesn't have six Beldings beneath him. There's no fucking way. You're full of shit, Dustin," Meyer said.

Meyer concluded his thoughts on Diamond by speculating how his words could be headlined: "Mark-Paul's New Screech Angry At The Old Screech."

If You Drink A Ton Of Milk, You Will Literally Transform Into 'The Rock'

0
0
While the campaign slogan "Milk: It Does a Body Good" is more open to debate since the 1980s, there may be an interesting possible side effect from consuming mass quantities of it quickly: you turn into Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Okay, maybe take that side effect with a huge grain of salt in this modern era of photo and video manipulation (and also because we're totally just kidding). It should also be noted that Johnson previously starred in a 2013 Super Bowl commercial for milk.

Either way, click play to watch this short clip above from "The Rock" to see for yourself the silly transformation that occurs. Got LOL?

'Real Housewife' Ramona Singer Tweets Plans To End Her Marriage

0
0
Real Housewife Ramona Singer took to Twitter on Thursday, Aug. 7, to announce plans to end her more than 20-year marriage to husband Mario Singer.

Just one day after In Touch published a photo of Singer's husband out dining with fitness instructor Kasey Dexter, with whom he allegedly had an affair earlier this year, the "Real Housewives of New York City" star shared the following tweet with fans:

Rumors of separation have circled the couple since Ramona discovered Mario's relationship with Dexter earlier this year, but the husband and wife appeared to have been trying to work things out this past March, when Ramona made a statement on Bethenny Frankel's show that emphasized their love for each other.

"Really, right now, I don't know where this is going," she said. "I have myself, I have my friends. I know my husband loves me, he knows I love him, and we'll see what will happen, you know?," she continued. "Nothing is set in stone, life is an evolution. And again, ladies and gentlemen, as long as you feel good about yourself, you can handle anything."

The reality TV star has apparently since changed her plans, and has received an outpouring of support from fans since announcing her intentions earlier this afternoon.
