Mark Duplass Says Melissa McCarthy Was The 'Greatest And Most Terrible Asset' For 'Tammy'

You may have read that this summer's Melissa McCarthy vehicle "Tammy" flopped at the box office and signaled the end of McCarthy's blockbuster success. It turns out that's not really true, but the narrative surrounding McCarthy is exactly the reason the film had a slow start, "Tammy" co-star Mark Duplass told HuffPost Live.

Duplass and Elisabeth Moss joined host Ricky Camilleri on Monday to discuss their new romantic comedy, "The One I Love." During the conversation, Duplass shared his take on the film's reception.

"Ben Falcone is a first-time director on that movie. He had the greatest and the most terrible asset in his film in Melissa, the world's biggest international comedy movie star," he said. "They set out to make a sweet relationship movie, but they were at a studio that wanted a Fourth of July, big fall-down comedy, and I think that movie had a hard time figuring out what it needed to be, and I think that's why it suffered that way."

The Internet has found another Jay Z doppelgänger, and this time that someone is an adorable little boy.

Reddit user BasedMath submitted a photo to Reddit on Sunday, Aug. 3: "My friend's son looks like Jay-Z," the user wrote.

The Internet agreed. Other Reddit commenters even wondered if the Illuminati has discovered the Fountain of Youth (conspiracy theories have long linked the rapper with the infamous society).

My friend's son looks like Jay-Z

Last year, Reddit found the first Jay Z doppelgänger in a photo from 1939. That photo was taken in Harlem, 70 years ago, by Sid Grossman. Some wondered if Jay Z could be a time traveler.

Rihanna's New Viva Glam Campaign For MAC Is Bold, Beautiful And Very Green

It's safe to say we're obsessed with every campaign Rihanna is a part of. But her latest collaboration with MAC has us green with envy.

rihanna mac viva glam 2

Taking to Twitter this afternoon to unveil her second Viva Glam MAC collaboration, the green-haired beauty shocked fans with a neon wig and green leather outfit.

As MAC revealed on their website, they've partnered with the songstress on a frosted metallic mauve lipstick and lipgloss for the collaboration. Citing Rihanna's "fearless, confident style," we can't think of a better person to lead such a bold campaign.

The lipstick for Viva Glam Rihanna II will come in warm mauve with silver frost, while the lipgloss will be a cool mauve with red frost. Priced at $16 and $15 each, it's probably the closest (and cheapest) you can get to covering Rihanna's ever-changing look.

There's another reason to make like RiRi and get icy -- in keeping with their past promise, MAC said all profits from Viva Glam Rihanna II will go to "helping women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS."

Judging from RiRi's frosty lips, the beautiful packaging for the products and the proceeds going to a great cause -- we're pining for the September 11th reveal date already.

Stop Being Mad at Woody Allen for Not Casting Black Actors

$

0
Last week, Woody Allen finally "broke his silence" regarding accusations that he doesn't cast black actors. Why the world felt it necessary to hold the director of "Scoop" and "Cassandra's Dream" accountable for the lack of black stars in cinema is a little beyond me, but I'd like to discuss anyway.

It's not a director's job to celebrate or showcase diversity. It's a director's job to tell their story, which they've presumably worked tirelessly to get onscreen. (Whether Allen works tirelessly on his films anymore is, of course, up for debate.) It's not a director's job to comb through their script and think, "There just aren't enough [insert ethnicity] in my film. Maybe we could turn this character into ..." That would be tokenism, which is almost more offensive than a lack of diversity and often feels like an afterthought that ends up furthering stereotypes.

Why would we want Woody Allen to attempt to write black characters? Based on his limited world-view it's obvious he would have very little perspective or authenticity. It's a much greater problem that his limited view of the world is of such a specific socio-economic sphere which apparently does not contain enough African-Americans for him to know or have known some. But is that his problem or the world's problem? And if it is the world's problem, isn't it more important that global corporations such as Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios or, any of the other major studios take on the cause of telling a more diverse group of stories? Consider a study put together by UCLA last year that shows "Across 100 top-grossing films of 2012, only 10.8 percent of speaking characters are Black, 4.2 percent are Hispanic, 5 percent are Asian, and 3.6 percent are from other (or mixed race) ethnicities." When a studio is putting together what could be one of the largest grossing, superhero-themed entertainments of the year -- entertainment meant for the majority to consume -- shouldn't they consider the majority that is going to see the film, especially when 44 percent of tickets sold are to non-Caucasians? The point being that, a studio makes 10 to 20 films a year that are meant for wide audiences. They are the ones who should be responsible for telling a diverse group of stories for a diverse audience. More often than not, they do what's even worse than Woody Allen, which is to pigeonhole African-American stories by marketing them less to white audiences. They wind up creating a culture where diversity is less of the norm and less interesting to more colors of the rainbow.

Woody Allen makes one film a year, the majority of which take place in some upper-crust, bourgeoisie fantasy land where a rich old man must debate whether or not he should sleep with a much younger woman. Allen is not the villain when it comes to racial diversity on the big screen. It's easy to paint him as one and believe me, I don't mind doing so myself. He's just not the guy in this particular go around. Also, after digging through his 50 films, Woody Allen HAS CAST African-Americans in his films.

Taylor Swift's Song And Dance With 6-Year-Old Boy With Cancer Will Totally Brighten Your Day

Jordan Lee Nickerson just got the surprise of his life.

The 6-year-old, who is currently at Boston Children's Hospital undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia, was greeted by a very special guest over the weekend: his favorite singer in the world, Taylor Swift.

In the video above, Swift and Jordan sing and dance together, the boy grinning widely and grooving to the beat.

“I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift but this is the cutest thing ever,“ wrote one YouTuber after watching the clip.

During her visit, Swift and Jordan, who has Williams syndrome -- a rare genetic disorder that results in developmental disabilities and cardiovascular problems -- also talked superheroes and played air hockey.

“[Taylor Swift’s] an amazing person that brightened our sunshine’s day!” the boy’s family wrote on Facebook.

Swift is well-known for the effort she makes to spend time with her fans.

In March, the Grammy Award-winning singer spent nearly five hours with young fans and their families at New York Hospital Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. About a week later, the 24-year-old did the same thing at the Hasbro Children's Hospital in Rhode Island.

Also this year, Swift made headlines after surprising a fan by attending her bridal shower. “Can’t believe [she] showed up,” wrote Gena Gabrielle on Instagram after the singer’s unexpected appearance at the event. Gabrielle says she had invited Swift to the shower, but had never imagined that the singer would show up.

An all-around class act, we’d say.

Yes, the dinosaur is Photoshopped, but Goldblum is not.

Adam Biesenthal -- the photographer behind the shot -- told The Huffington Post that Goldblum attended the wedding of Pamela and Jesse Sargent in Toronto this weekend, along with his fiancée Emilie Livingston, who is a friend of the bride.

Of course, when it came time to do the classic "run away from a T-rex wedding shot," who better to have in the pic than Dr. Ian Malcolm himself?

Why Actor Colin Hanks Doesn't Talk Show Biz With His Dad

When it came to choosing his profession, actor Colin Hanks followed in his father’s footsteps, but it turns out the two actors don’t talk show business as much as you might think.

Hanks joined HuffPost Live to discuss his FX show "Fargo" and discussed his relationship with his father, Academy Award winner Tom Hanks. He explained that, although both father and son are in the industry, they tend to keep the acting talk to a minimum.

“To be honest, pretty much any conversations that we have about anything related to the business of show tends to be, ‘So, how do you stay sane on location? How do you make the best of your time when you’re traveling back and forth trying to see our family as much as you can?'" the younger Hanks told host Josh Zepps. “It’s always sort of those nuts and bolts kinds of questions.”

Hanks said the two are far too busy to ask scene-specific acting questions.

“I don’t have the time to write that email, and he doesn't have the time to respond,” he said. “When we see each other, we like to talk about other things.”

'Amazing Spider-Man' Spinoff Might Focus On Female Superhero

According to Deadline.com, Sony plans to release a female superhero movie in 2017, a spin-off from its "Amazing Spider-Man" universe. Black Cat, Spider-Woman and Silver Sable are listed among the possibilities to play the film's lead character, though Deadline.com had no confirmation for which character would get the standalone showcase. For what it's worth, Felicity Jones played Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," though her part was mostly relegated to the sidelines. HuffPost Entertainment contacted a representative for Sony. This post will be updated if and when they respond.

The news that Sony will potentially make a female superhero movie puts the studio ahead of Warner Bros. (which controls the DC Universe) and Disney (which controls much of the Marvel universe).

"I hope we do it sooner rather than later. But we find ourselves in the very strange position of managing more franchises than most people have -- which is a very, very good thing and we don't take for granted, but is a challenging thing," Marvel boss Kevin Feige told Comic Book Resource when asked about female superhero movies in a recent interview. The studio has been criticized for its failure to capitalize on popular comic-book characters such as Black Widow (played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Scarlett Johansson) and Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel. (For its part, Warner Bros. has not yet announced that Wonder Woman, who will appear in the studio's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," will receive her own movie.)

For more on the female superhero movie Sony could release and the "Amazing Spider-Man" franchise as a whole, head to Deadline.com.

Mischa Barton Facing Foreclosure On Beverly Hills Home

Former "O.C." star Mischa Barton is dealing with some struggles in California as her Beverly Hills home is in foreclosure.

People magazine reports Barton is five months behind on her mortgage payments, owing $100,000. The magazine states the lender has placed the property in foreclosure.

Barton purchased the eight-bedroom, 10-bathroom mansion, which boasts three guest houses on 1.2 acres of land, in 2005 for $6.4 million with a $4.2 million loan, according to TMZ. She has tried to sell the property multiple times in the past and attempted to rent it out last year, but to no avail.

The Bowmont Drive home is currently listed with Joe Babajian of Rodeo Realty for nearly $8.7 million.

The 28-year-old had roles in "Notting Hill" and "The Sixth Sense" before shooting to fame in 2003 as it-girl Marissa Cooper on "The O.C." After leaving the show in 2006, she was arrested for DUI in 2007 and placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold in 2009.

"It was a full-on breakdown," she told People magazine last year about the hospitalization. "I was under enormous pressure."

A rep for Barton could not be immediately reached for further comment.

With lyrics like, "I was the mistress of my fate / I was a card shark / if I'd a looked a little ahead, I'd a run away," the song features classic Nicks themes of love and fate, fear and heartbreak. The lyric video below zooms in and out of an old Polaroid photo of Nicks, which is in keeping with the album's packaging. (Its artwork is made from more never-before-seen Polaroids.) Featuring unreleased songs written between 1969 and 1987, "24 Karat Gold" is out Oct. 7, but is available to pre-order starting Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Lucy Hale Talks About Her 'Uncomfortable' And 'Very Sexual' 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Audition

It's no secret that Lucy Hale's had a busy year. On top of starring in the addicting drama, "Pretty Little Liars," the 25-year-old is also actively promoting her first country album, "Road Between." But we had no idea that we almost saw Hale on the big screen, too, playing Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades Of Grey."

As the cover star of Cosmopolitan's September 2014 issue, Hale opened up to the magazine about her awkward experience auditioning for the erotic thriller:

“That audition was so uncomfortable! It’s exactly what you thought it would be: a big monologue but very, very sexual. There were some things that I was so embarrassed to be reading out loud, but it’s one of those things where you have to commit wholeheartedly or you’re going to make a fool of yourself."

So maybe it's for the best that Hale lost the role to Dakota Johnson, who plays Steele in the film, which is set to be released in February 2015.

Hale was also candid with Cosmopolitan about "Pretty Little Liars" and how it's unrealistic beauty standards can negatively affect the show's young fans. The actress and singer told the magazine:

“['Pretty Little Liars'] is about how we look too. That’s terrifying sometimes because you’re breaking out or you feel gross and you still have to be in front of the camera. We’ll post pictures on Instagram and people will be like, ‘Y’all are so flawless.’ Little do they know it’s fake hair, fake eyelashes, and a good filter. Little girls see that and think they have to be like that.”

Hale has made female empowerment part of her agenda in her music. In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, she spoke about a song called "Nervous Girls," which she says is "something every female should hear."

"We all kind of struggle with different things, we all go through the same emotions and [the song is] kind of like my way of spreading girl empowerment. I think that the song is very uniting and it makes us feel like one in the same which is something that we always lose sight of," Hale said.

It's official, Cristiano Ronaldo is the "Fittest Man Alive."

If there were any naysayers left, the soccer star's recent cover for Men's Health is bound to change some minds. In a video interview with the magazine, the Portuguese forward revealed why he finds it so important to stay fit.

Ronaldo, 29, helped Real Madrid dominate Atlético de Madrid during the Champions League Final in May, ending the 4-1 win by taking off his shirt to show his sculpted abs. When asked to reveal the secret to six-pack abs, the star said he doesn't stay fit for aesthetic reasons.

"I think my whole body is fit," Ronaldo told Men's Health. "I do not prepare my body for photo shooting or to be beautiful. I do that for my job, for fútbol -- to be healthy, to be strong, to be ready for all the battles, all the season, for the whole competition. I'm always prepared, I'm not looking just for one part of the body, I work everything, even the mental [part]. Which in my opinion is the most important."

On the cover, Ronaldo is wearing jeans and briefs from his "CR7" underwear collection. Fans who were hoping to see more skin may remember his May cover for Vogue Spain, in which he bares it all behind girlfriend Irina Shayk.

Just in from TheWrap: James Corden, who won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 2012 and co-stars in the forthcoming "Into the Woods" movie, will replace Craig Ferguson as host of the "Late Late Show" on CBS. HuffPost Entertainment contacted a representative from the network to confirm the story; this post will be updated if and when they respond.

Corden has appeared on numerous British television shows and some recognizable feature films over the last decade, including "The History Boys," "Gulliver's Travels" and "The Three Musketeers." He co-starred with Keira Knightley in this summer's "Begin Again" and also plays a lead role in "One Chance," about Paul Potts, an opera singer who rose to fame thanks to "Britain's Got Talent." His role in "Into the Woods" is The Baker.

Ferguson announced in April that he was leaving "The Late Late Show."

"At the end of this year I will be stepping down as the host of the show," he said at the time of the announcement. "Then I'll go and do something else, probably I'm thinking carpentry. But I haven't made my mind up yet." Ferguson was among the names discussed to replace David Letterman on "The Late Show," which airs immediately before "The Late Late Show," but Stephen Colbert eventually scored that coveted gig. Ferguson has been host of "The Late Late Show" since 2005.

Manson Family Member Patricia Krenwinkel Speaks Out (VIDEO)

When she was a young woman in the 1960s, Patricia Krenwinkel was directionless, confused and in search of someone who would show her love.

Tragically, she thought she found that person in Charles Manson.

"I wanted to please. I wanted to feel safe. To feel like someone was going to care for me," Krenwinkel said from a California prison in a clip from the documentary My Life After Manson, which can be seen above. "I hadn't felt that from anyone else in my life.”

The New York Times explains Krenwinkel's role in the Manson Family killings:

In 1969, at age 21, Ms. Krenwinkel was a member of Mr. Manson’s cult in Los Angeles. His group, which he called the “Family,” included more than a dozen men and women who adhered to a bizarre mixture of hippie culture and apocalyptic paranoia. Seeking to inspire a race war, Manson ordered Ms. Krenwinkel and other members of his group to commit a series of murders. Over the course of two nights, they savagely murdered seven people, inflicting more than 130 stab wounds.

Krenwinkel was convicted on seven counts of first-degree murder and has been imprisoned for 45 years. She was sentenced to life behind bars but is up for parole in 2018.

"The thing I try to remember sometimes is that what I am today is not what I was at 19," Krenwinkel, who is the longest serving woman in the California prison system," said. "It all seemed very simple in the beginning."

Kristin Chenoweth Tweets About Health Scare, Thanks Fans For Support

Kristin Chenoweth took to Twitter this week to address concerns about her health, and to thank fans for their well wishes during her time of need.

Beginning early this week, the star tweeted that she was home in Los Angeles and experiencing some pain and numbness:

She followed up with news that she was waiting on results from an MRI:

Finally, on Wednesday, Aug. 5, Chenoweth tweeted that the source of the issue was a flare up from a previous neck problem, and thanked fans for all their "good vibes":

Chenoweth was badly injured on the set of "The Good Wife" in July 2012, when she was hit on the head by lighting equipment and left with a skull fracture and rib and hip issues. The actress opened up about the experience to Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan of "Live! with Kelly and Michael" later that year:

"When something falls from the sky and onto your head, and you don’t know it’s coming, the good news is, for anyone who dies quickly, they don't know what happened to them," she said. At the time of the interview, in September 2012, Chenoweth still experienced certain after effects of the head injury, and still wore a neck brace from time to time.

Get well soon, Kristin!

Conan Is Performing 'The Simpsons' 'Monorail Song' Live, Let The 'Woo-hoos!' Begin

If you thought public transportation couldn't get any more exciting, hold on to your handrails.

Conan O'Brien has agreed to perform "The Monorail Song" from "The Simpsons" live.

O'Brien penned "Marge vs. the Monorail," a "Simpsons" classic, back before his "Late Night" days, and he has agreed to perform the episode's memorable song with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl in September, according to BuzzFeed UK.

In addition to O'Brien's performance, "Simpsons" voice actors and Matt Groening will recreate memorable moments from the show and offer commentary.

O'Brien's famous episode centers on Springfield purchasing a monorail from a slick-talking salesman, with Marge being the only one who questions the transaction. The late Phil Hartman originally sang the signature song.

"The Simpsons Take the Bowl" takes place September 12-14 at the Hollywood Bowl.

Kim Kardashian Is Way Too Hard On Herself Since Giving Birth To North West

Dear Kim Kardashian, stop being so hard on yourself.

In recent weeks, the 33-year-old reality star has taken to posting old photos of herself and reminiscing about her "#skinnydays," for her diet and workout motivation. "#FBF ughhh I am 20 lbs lighter here! This was just 5 years ago! Ok I'm going back on my grind. I gotta get back here," she wrote along with a photo of herself from February 2010.

On Aug. 5, Kardashian's obsession again reared its head when she took to Twitter to announce her weight loss plan with her 22.6 million followers:

Kardashian continued her thoughts on the subject, writing in a series of tweets:

"Just need to get down to my weight a few years ago. Not gonna complain anymore. Starting diet TODAY! No carbs. crazy workouts. Whos with me? i think after having a baby u get so excited u lost a lot of weight then u get comfortable & eat how you used & it creeps back up. ok no more tweeting and procrastinating! LOL Glad some of u moms can relate. I'm reading the comments! For real....of to the gym! wish me luck on the dieting...its soooo hard for me!"

It's unclear why Kardashian is suddenly so hung up on her weight, and why she's making it a public battle. As a new mother, she's being entirely too hard on herself, but what makes it more confusing is that on a recent episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," she revealed to her sister Khloe that she's actually lighter than she was before she gave birth to daughter North West.
