Putting Joan Holloway In A Modern Office Says A Lot About Income Inequality

0
0
If you think Christina Hendricks' character Joan Holloway would be a ridiculous throwback in today's office environment, try women still making 23 percent less than their male counterparts.

Funny or Die teamed up with the "Mad Men" actress for this hilariously scathing critique of income inequality that's certain to get people talking. After all, if workplace policies are going to be straight out of the '60s, then our clothes, technology and smoking habits might as well be, too.

The sketch was written by former "Totally Biased" scribe Eliza Skinner, who also penned FoD's "Black Women Run Hollywood" and co-wrote "Mary Poppins Quits" with Jake Fogelnest.

Peter Frampton Throws Fan's Phone During Performance To Teach A Lesson

When Peter Frampton sets the rules, you better believe he will see that they are followed.

Fans at Frampton's concert in Carmel, Indiana on Sunday, Aug. 3, were given clear instructions that no flash photography or video would be allowed at any time during the concert. Naturally, there were two people who decided it was their right to completely disregard all of what they had been told, and, of course, they were right in the front of the crowd.

Melissa Schickel of Onstage Magazine was in attendance and wrote about how it all went down:

At first, Peter kept gesturing to them, saying, ‘No, don’t do that. Stop!” But they just did not get the hint. He was frantically looking for security, but they were nowhere nearby…Peter quickly turned around and turned his back to the audience and played that way for several moments ...

As he neared the end of [‘Do You Feel Like We Do'], you could see the absolute look of desperation and frustration on Peter’s face. I have never seen an artist so upset before. Once, and he stormed off the stage. At his breaking point, and the guy in the front row unrelenting – apparently with no self control considering he’s already flipped Peter off and turned around and called the rest of the audience a bunch of deadbeats – Peter ends the song, walks over and with a huge smile on his face bends down and says, ‘Hey can I see that? Can I see the photos you’ve been taking?’ The guy hands him his phone and Peter stands up, spins, and flings for the rafters! Yes! The phone went flying to the back of the stage and we all erupted in cheers! With years of experience playing guitar, we just knew he had a great arm!

Following news of Frampton's actions spreading out online, the singer took to Facebook to comment on the matter.

"For those of you from the Carmel, IN (Kah-mull) show who are still scratching your heads as to why I would relieve someone, in the front row, of their phone/camera .... Please read the review below," Frampton wrote while linking to a review by writer Jeff Davis. "Many thanks to the eyewitnesses who came forward to explain how annoying, 'Team Distraction' actually were," Frampton wrote.

Peter Frampton: Enforcer of rules, destroyer of phones. (And no, there is no video.)

Zoe Kazan: 'Who Are You To Tell Me What My Feminism Means To Me?'

With so many celebrities fumbling the definition of feminism lately, it's refreshing to hear from those who truly do understand the fundamentals of gender equality.

"What If" star Zoe Kazan took down some misconceptions about feminism during an interview with The Frisky posted on Aug. 6.

"I do consider myself a feminist," she told The Frisky's Jessica Wakeman. "I was raised by a woman [screenwriter Robin Swicord, who wrote "Matilda" and "Little Women"] who would consider herself a feminist, so I think I was given certain values from a really young age about equality and about thinking of yourself as an equal."

A screenwriter herself, the 30-year-old Los Angeles native wrote and starred in the film "Ruby Sparks," widely considered a feminist commentary on the "manic pixie dream girl."

Kazan went on to flesh out the negative connotation that often comes with being a feminist and how she had to see past it herself:
I think that the [negativity associated with the] label discourages some women from calling themselves that. I think saying that "you’re a feminist" is a little bit like saying that you’re a humanist, because what it’s really about is equal opportunities and equal thinking about genders being only a part of your identity rather than something that would define you and define your character.. I had a hard time when I was younger sort of reconciling my feminism and my femininity.

Similar to Zooey Deschanel's take on being a feminist and feminine, Kazan told Wakeman an anecdote about a time she wore a Hello Kitty Band-Aid at a press event for "Ruby Sparks" and received some criticism. "I felt like, 'Who are you to tell me what my feminism means to me?'" Kazan told Wakeman. "Just because I wear a skirt doesn’t mean that I am inviting rape and just because I wear a Band-Aid that has a cartoon character on it doesn’t mean that I’m infantilizing myself."

Hello Kitty is a cat -- and who loves cats more than feminists? Problem solved.

Head over to The Frisky to read the rest of the interview.

James Franco Slams Gawker Article As 'Homophobic'

James Franco is NOT happy with Gawker's most recent article about him and he took to social media to let the world know.

Yesterday, Gawker ran an article titled "James Franco Is Living With A Man" that served as a response to a short New York Times piece about the actor's collaborations with long-time friend Scott Haze. The overarching point of this Gawker piece? That Haze may be Franco's live-in boyfriend:
But theirs is the kind of relationship -- somewhat ambiguous, seemingly gay, probably romantic -- that almost always sends The New York Times into a bizarre moral panic... the paper of record has plenty of experience playing coy about gay relationships, too. In that sense, Franco and the Times are the perfect match.

Franco was clearly displeased with the implications, posting the following on both Facebook and Instagram:

Franco typically has a sense of humor in regards to cultural and media attention surrounding his sexuality, oftentimes even playing into claims that he is attracted to or sleeps with men. However, this Gawker article seems to have crossed the line in some regards.

What do you think about Franco's claims that the Gawker article is homophobic?

Hoda Talks Mystery Boyfriend And Importance Of 'Deep And Honest' Sexual Connection

0

Painfully little is known about Hoda's mystery boyfriend, save for their recent trip to see "All The Way" on Broadway and that, according to Hoda herself, he's "very, very, cute."

Well, interested parties should take note: the two actually came very close to never meeting each other.

"I almost didn't go out the night I met him," she told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani in an interview on Thursday. "Cause you know how you don't feel like it because it's raining and icky and why not just watch a 'Law & Order' rerun and stay home and eat potato chips -- and I'm so glad I went out that night because it was a chance meeting that ended up being kind of a life transforming event for me."

The "Today" show host also opened up a little about what goes on in the bedroom with her "wonderful guy."

"For me, it is about connection," she said. "No one is into the sport of [sex]. You want to have a real deep, honest connection. For me, that is such a valuable part of who you are."

That, and presumably a love of wine.

These People Look SO Much Like Celebrities, It's Hard To Believe They're Not Clones

0

On Thursday, a curious Redditor posed a question on the social news site. “Reddit, do you have a celebrity look-alike?” the netizen asked. “If so, can you share a side-by-side comparison.”

The response was swift, overwhelming and crazy impressive.

One guy said he often gets stopped in the street because of his wow-I-can’t-believe-you’re-not-Ed-Sheeran resemblance to the English singer-songwriter.

Another Redditor said his friend looked a lot like Michael Cera in high school:

One man's dad has been mistaken for TV host and comedian Craig Ferguson:

And this guy is the spitting image of Michael Fassbender. Get out of town!

Also making waves on the Reddit thread is a Peter Dinklage doppelgänger:

…a woman who looks a lot like Emma Watson:

A simple smoky-eye

…a dude whose friend who could play the main character in "Dexter":

…a man who should be Eddie Murphy’s stunt double:

…a lady who looks a lot like Scarlett Johansson:

...a woman who could be related to Jane Krakowski:

...a Steve Buscemi clone:

…and two friends who are basically Jonah Hill and Zach Galifianakis:

“Came in expecting half-baked vague resemblances… Got my mind [f**king] blown, instead,” wrote one impressed Redditor after scrolling through the thread. “I can't believe some of the similarities going on here.”

For more insane celebrity doppelgänger action, take a look at the awesome Reddit thread yourself.

Larry King And Conan Eating A Pot Brownie On Air May Cause Chronic Laughter

0
0
Well, that just happened.

While on "Conan," Larry King admitted he likes marijuana, aka jazz cigarettes for those in the know, but doesn't want to deal with the smoke. Conan came prepared though and brought out a pot brownie, which he, King and Andy Richter then shared on air.

King, who appeared to become high almost immediately, said he had never tried edible marijuana because he wasn't a "cookie man." We're guessing after that brownie he'll be a cookie man, a brownie man and an anything-he-can-find-in-his-fridge man, too.

"Conan" airs weeknights at 11:00 p.m. ET on TBS.

Robert Pattinson Is 'Ridiculously Proud' Of Sister Lizzy's 'X Factor' Audition

Talent runs in the Pattinson family. Robert Pattinson's 31-year-old sister Lizzy recently passed an audition for "The X Factor U.K.," which means she could end up appearing on show's 11th season.

When asked about his older sister's recent accomplishment, Pattinson said:

"I'm like, so ridiculously proud of her. I would never have the balls to do that, ever, in a million years. I can't believe she's done it. So, it's amazing."

Lizzy Pattinson contributed background vocals to Carter Burwell's "Twilight" scores. Her voice was also featured on house music duo Milk & Sugar's 2012 remix of "Let the Sunshine In."

"The X Factor U.K.," which features judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Melanie Brown and Louis Walsh, will air on cable and satellite channel AXS-TV starting on Aug. 31.

If Lizzy advances in the competition, hopefully we'll catch a glimpse of Robert Pattinson in the crowd.

Angela Bassett Admits Her Two Biggest Weaknesses

Angela Bassett is an exemplary 55 year-old, and not just for her timeless beauty.

The seasoned actress recently finished her debut directorial project, a Whitney Houston biopic starring Yaya DaCosta, and is also up for a Primetime Emmy for her role in “American Horror Story: Coven.”

Lexy Lebsack of Violet Grey, a Los Angeles dressing studio-turned-luxury-beauty installation and e-commerce store, sat down with the Hollywood veteran for a Violet Files profile on how Bassett gets ready to hit the red carpet.

angela bassett

When asked what she sees when she looks in the mirror, Bassett described, “A passionate woman who knows what she loves and has been blessed to be able to do it… and continue to do it!”

The talented Golden Globe-award winner did admit to two weaknesses, “Love… and sugar,” and a vulnerability that only comes out, “When I’m told I can’t do something. When I’m told I’m not good enough, that I can’t have something, can’t go somewhere, especially because of the color of my skin.”

Her advice for young actors was steeped in all the wisdom you’d expect from an entertainment veteran.

“When great actor does their job they’re leaving a part of their soul in the room. It takes a little out of you, but that’s okay," she said. "Life will take a little out of you, love will take a little out of you, we’re talking about demonstrating the best and the worst of the human experience.”

But acting alone won’t take you all the way, according to Bassett.

“For me, it’s vitally important. Once you see that come to life you can see the character slowly emerge," she continued. "It allows you to go deeper, to discover her perspective and her idiosyncrasies. I look in the mirror to see how she moves, how she feels, how she speaks; then the moment happens when it’s like ‘Hello, I’m here.’”

Which is why she gives her creative team so much freedom.

“I just let them do what they do because they marry the look to the moment. It’s like a dance: We’re all doing it, and every person has their part. Everything has to meet and become one voice.”

Bassett may be stunning as ever, but she knows well that no one in the public eye is safe from criticism.

“You can’t be in this industry if you’re afraid of a little rejection.”

Domhnall Gleeson Explains The Extremely Extensive 'Star Wars' Gag Order

0
0
Most probably know Domhnall Gleeson for two things: playing Bill Weasley in the "Harry Potter" series, and his back facing the camera in the only photo yet released of the latest "Star Wars" cast together.

Gleeson stopped by HuffPost Live on Thursday to chat about his new movie, "Frank," which co-stars Michael Fassbender and comes out Aug. 15. Gleeson, who has been cast in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII," said all he could about the film -- which isn't much.

"I get sick in my mouth every time someone brings up 'Star Wars.' I'm so nervous I'm going to give something away. I just get a faraway look in my eyes and try to remain calm," Gleeson told host Ricky Camilleri with a laugh. "You sign a massive, big, long contract thing ... and then they send you a one-page thing that says, 'Here is what you're allowed to talk about.' And then there's just a big empty page. It says you're allowed to say you're excited to be in the movie. That's it."

J.J. Abrams is set to direct the film, which will hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015.

Catch the rest of Gleeson's precious few "Star Wars" tidbits above, and watch the entire HuffPost Live conversation here.

'Fargo' Star Allison Tolman Slams Body Shamers: 'It Just Makes Me Furious'

"Fargo" star Allison Tolman's life has changed a lot lately. She went from working as a temp to becoming an Emmy-nominated actress, and she also became an outspoken voice against body-shaming online.

Tolman's tweets in response to her haters got a ton of positive attention, and she told HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski that her reaction came from a visceral place.

"Body-shaming is something I feel really strongly about," Tolman said. "I think about my niece, I think about my friends who have daughters being on the Internet and reading these things, and it just makes me furious. It makes me so angry."

The actress is also aware that her opinion is likely lost on the people who spew negativity, but she said making even a small dent in the dialogue about women and size is important.

"While I know that me saying something to someone on the Internet and sassing somebody back doesn't actually do anything to them -- I don't think I'm going to change anyone's mind, obviously -- but I'm hoping that if that's part of the conversation, people saying nasty things to women, maybe we can also make part of the conversation women saying back, 'It's really none of your business, shut up,'" she said.

People Will Get Mad If You Interrupt TV Shows With Iraq News

How much do Americans care about what's happening in Iraq? Not as much as they care about what's happening with Kate Upton, it seems.

The model was guest hosting "Live! with Kelly and Michael" on Thursday morning, and when ABC News cut in with a special report about the United States launching an airstrike against militants in Iraq, people were not happy. Mediaite reported that disgruntled viewers erupted on Twitter, complaining, "'US air strikes' just interrupted my Kelly & Michael's show w/ Kate Upton," and, "They just took Kate Upton off my tv to tell me what Obama is doing..... @ThanksObamaUSA."

More tweets, including some from viewers in other time zones where "Good Morning America" was airing instead:

CNN got similar reactions from viewers on Thursday night when it interrupted "The Sixties" for Obama's address about Iraq.

Kim Kardashian And Kanye West 'Trying' For Baby Number Two

0
0
Sounds like North West might become a big sister soon, if mommy Kim Kardashian has her way.

The 33-year-old reality star revealed to Entertainment Tonight that she and husband Kanye West are actively "trying" for baby number two. When asked whether she sees another baby on the horizon, Kardashian said, "I'm hoping so. You know I kind of wish I was pregnant at the same time Kourtney is. She's like more than half way in, so you know, we're trying."

The "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star would actually love it if both she and Khloe were expecting babies with sister Kourtney, so they could all bond over pregnancy.

"It would be fun," she gushed. "There's a lot of craziness in the house, so why not add pregnancy hormones to the craziness? It would be like a partner in crime. Someone to know those cravings that you're really going through."

As for all those tweets about losing weight, Kim admits that she's just trying to motivate herself to look the best she can.

"Sometimes it just messes with you because your body changes after you have a baby, so I always say I thought my butt and my hips were big to begin with, [but] after baby, it's like out of control," she said, with a giggle. "I never want to get too comfortable because I feel better about myself when I'm just a little bit down. So, it's not about what anyone thinks about me, it's what I -- and I'm not trying to be crazy ... I don't think I'm huge -- I just think, 'You know, I got to get it together.'"

'Louie' Is The 'Kale Of Television' According To Neal Brennan

Well, at least one person doesn't love "Louie." Neal Brennan, comedian and co-creator of "Chappelle's Show" and host of the eagerly anticipated "The Approval Matrix," sounded off on Louis C.K.'s hit series, calling it "the kale of television."

In the clip, presented exclusively by our friends over at LaughSpin, Brennan makes it clear he loves C.K. as a stand-up, but the show leaves him cold. "I love the stand-up sections of the show, I find the narrative to be non-existent and kind of sloppy and kind of lazy."

Let us know if you agree, and then hop on over to LaughSpin for an extended interview with Brennan.

"The Approval Matrix" premieres August 11 at 11:00 p.m. ET on Sundance TV.

Michael Strahan's Ex Nicole Murphy Breaks Her Silence On Their Split

0
0
Reality star and model Nicole Murphy is opening up about her split from Michael Strahan for the first time.

Just a week after Strahan's rep confirmed that the couple had called off their five-year engagement, Murphy told TMZ that “it’s all good” between her and the "Live! With Kelly and Michael" co-host, and that they’ll “always be friends."

And though the VH1's "Hollywood Exes" star was sure to stress that there were no hard feelings, she kept quiet when the cameraman pressed her for comment on tabloid reports that she'd pulled the plug on the relationship over suspicions that Strahan had been unfaithful.

Earlier this week, sources close to the couple told People that it was distance that drove them apart -- and that both Strahan, 42, and Murphy, 46, may already be seeing other people.

"They've been having problems for two years and have been off and on throughout," the source said. "Him dating someone would come as no surprise to Nicole."

The pair, who have nine children between them -- four from Strahan's previous marriages and five from Murphy's -- first started dating in 2007. Murphy was previously married to actor Eddie Murphy, while Strahan divorced second wife Jean Muggli in 2006.

Kim Kardashian's Selfie Book Is Coming To A Book Store Near You

So that selfie book that Kim Kardashian was making for Kanye West's eyes only, well it's coming to a book store near you. Because really it was only a matter of time before the reality star attempted to monetize what she does best -- taking photos of herself.

We know what you are thinking: Yes, the woman who regularly posts selfies on Instagram and other social media platforms, where you can view them for free, does indeed expect you to shell out $19.95 for a book of selfies.

Rizzoli Universe, the company responsible for publishing "Selfish," also believes that come April 7, 2015, you will open up your wallet and spend $19.95 on 352 pages of photos of Kim Kardashian taken by Kim Kardashian.

We're guessing that the year's worth of photos would be ones that haven't previously been published online, but we're really not sure who is going to pay for that. Let us know who you are, because we're not sure you understand that you can already view thousands of photos of her for free.

Lorraine Toussaint Talks Shooting A Nude Scene After 50 For 'Orange Is The New Black'

0

Editor's note: the clip above contains nudity.

Lorraine Toussaint dared to go bare after turning 50 when she stripped down for a steamy scene in the second season of Netflix's breakout hit "Orange Is The New Black." But unlike just about every other TV fan, she had never actually seen the finished product -- until she visited HuffPost Live.

Host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani ran footage of the scene during Toussaint's interview on Friday, and the actress revealed that it was the first time she'd ever seen it. Her response: "Oh dear."

Even as a villain and protagonist to the show's most beloved characters, Lorraine Toussaint shines as "Vee" in "OITNB's" much-lauded second season. Though she had never watched the scene, Toussaint said she did check in with a close circle of intimate friends before she agreed to go topless.

"I had a couple of girlfriends and a couple of my gay guy friends take a look at the girls," she said. "And I just went for it."

Toussaint said she tried to think of "a million different ways to film this [scene] clothed" but "none of it made sense. This character would never have done that." As for the response to the scene, Toussaint doesn't want to be called "brave" for appearing nude, and said the focus on her choice to bare it all later in life is a mark of the unhealthy cultural obsession with youth.

"It's very American, isn't it? Because in America, certainly in Hollywood, it's about youth and it's about the glorification of the young body, the firm body, the teenage, post-teenage, early-20s body," she said. "It's also about being stick thin. It doesn't actually reflect the way women's bodies actually look or how women's bodies actually mature."
