Will Ferrell Tries Not To Focus Too Much On Other Comedians (AKA The Competition)

$

Will Ferrell is currently in Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, sipping on some ice cold beers at the Budweiser Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.

"I’m not going to lie to you, we’ve had a few and we’ve enjoyed them thoroughly," Ferrell told HuffPost Entertainment on June 27.

But Ferrell is less concerned with the party and more focused on the soccer, as he watches the world's best players take each other on in grueling matches.

"The World Cup, at the expense of sounding cliché, really brings everyone together," he told us during an interview over the phone (although we sort of wish we were in Rio, don't you?). "It’s unique to be at a game when you’re standing next to crowds from Germany and afterwards everyone just shakes hands and says, 'Hey, that was a great game.' It really puts a light on the fact that it’s a shame that the world can’t have more cooperative moments like this," he said. "Where we just are bonded by our love of sport."

The 46-year-old comedian delivered an inspirational speech to U.S. soccer fans before the match against Germany on June 26, proving he's not only a fan himself, but quite the motivator.

"I think I could lead our team into any situation," he told HuffPost. "I don’t know if I would get them to win, but I would definitely get them fired up. But I’d have no technical expertise, just a lot of emotion and a lot of screaming."

Speaking of emotion (and technical expertise, for that matter), Ferrell also opened up about his future star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, "Anchorman" memories and thoughts on fellow comedians.

Congrats on the Walk of Fame news, that’s very exciting!
Yeah! Finally, right? [laughs]

You’ve been in some amazing movies, including “Anchorman,” which was released 10 years ago. Is that hard to believe?
I guess. [laughs] If I look back and think how long I’ve been doing this, it does surprise me. But when you're in the mode of working, I don't know if that really crosses your mind.

“Anchorman 2” just happened, but will there be an “Anchorman 3”?
That really hasn’t come up. You know, It took a lot to make a sequel and we were very happy with it. We felt like making sequels is not the easiest thing to do and I think we survived in terms of making it distinct enough and worth making. So I don’t know, I never talked about making a third one.

Where do you pull inspiration from for your work?
I just kind of have a capacity to think of weird and bizarre things and then I’m given the opportunity to execute them. So, I don’t really know if there’s one source that I draw inspiration from, it’s just, I spend a lot of time daydreaming and that’s proven valuable for me.

You're a dad of three sons, is that why you’ve been taking on more animated roles like “Lego Movie” and “Megamind”? Or does being a father lead you to take on serious roles as well?
It is interesting now that I have kids. I’ll tell you, they do have opinions as to whether I should take on a project or not. But I still govern myself by the rules of just hearing the choices I’m going to make. It’s great to go back and forth between comedic stuff and family movies and then dramatic stuff. I like to kind of have a variety of projects going at the same time.

Who’s the funniest actor, currently, in your eyes?
Let’s see ... I think that there’s just a lot of people who, once again, are doing funny stuff. I’m a big fan of Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen. I think those guys are making really funny, interesting movies. And there’s always people coming up, but I don’t know if I’m really someone who studies other people’s comedies.

You’ve worked with some of the best including Paul Rudd and Kristen Wiig, and so on (and on). Who are your favorite people to work with?
The “Anchorman” cast, those guys are great. Of course, I loved working with John C. Reilly, he’s kind of a brother to me. We’re trying to figure out another project to do together. Mark Wahlberg was amazing to work with and I just finished a movie ["Get Hard"] with Kevin Hart, and he’s another really funny guy who, at the same time, works really hard and likes to enjoy himself the same way I do. He works hard, but at the same time, doesn’t take all of this too seriously, which I think is the key to success in this business.

Which celebrity, aside from your "Step Brothers" co-star [John C. Reilly], would you want to share a bunk bed with?
Ummm ... [long pause and deliberation]. How about Vladimir Putin? A real fun guy, but maybe I can get him to lighten up.

And who do you think would win in a fight, Ron Burgundy or Chazz Reinhold from "Wedding Crashers"?
I don’t think either of them would win. It would just kind of end up being a pathetic glob of two men wrestling like gorillas on the ground, probably.

The Unfortunate Way Rob Lowe Found Out He Was Cut From 'The Outsiders'

In a recent visit to HuffPost Live, Rob Lowe recalled to host Ricky Camilleri the first time he saw "The Outsiders." The film was first shot as a direct remake of the book, but when it hit theaters, much of the Lowe's part as Sodapop Curtis was cut out. It wasn't until 2005 that Francis Ford Coppola released the original movie as it was intended as "The Outsiders: The Complete Novel." Lowe said he had no idea his part would be slashed until he saw the screening. "It wasn't a great thing to do to an 18-year-old kid," he said on HuffPost Live. "As I have produced since then, whenever an actor is not going to be in the cut in a way they would have expected, I make sure to tell them." Watch the whole segment here.

Amy Adams Gives Her First Class Plane Seat To U.S. Soldier

Amy Adams just gave us more evidence that she's an angel in disguise.

After spotting a U.S. soldier in the gate before her recent flight, the star allegedly organized to give the man her first class seat in exchange for his in coach. Adams performed the switch with no fanfare and without the solider's knowledge, but ESPN's "Numbers Never Lie" host Jemele Hill was also on the plane, and took to Twitter to express her admiration for the Oscar nominee:

"As I was getting seated, I saw the flight attendant guide the soldier to Ms. Adams' seat. She was no longer in it, but it was pretty clear that she'd given up her seat for him," Hill later told ABC News. "I was incredibly impressed."

"[She] did it so quietly and quickly that it speaks to her character," she continued. "And somebody in coach just got a helluva seatmate."

Adams tells Inside Edition of her kind gesture, “I didn’t do it for attention for myself. I did it for attention for the Troops.”

Just another reason to love Amy Adams.

Mom Goes Everywhere With Bradley Cooper Cutout, Documents The Hilarity

When your odds of scoring a date with Bradley Cooper are slim to none, don't lose heart. Get a cutout!

That's the strategy of Danielle Davies, an enterprising mom who has taken to adventuring with a life-size cardboard cutout of Bradley Cooper and documenting the entertaining adventures on her blog, "My Life With Bradley Cooper."

Here's Davies' response to the obvious question: "Why?"
Because, friends, this is America. So why not? The fact is, while most of us don't actually live our lives with movie stars, many of us wish we did. And so, being a forward thinking American, I have taken the bull by the horns, the horse by the reigns [sic], the cardboard cutout of Bradley Cooper by the shoulders, and just pretended that I do.

"Bradley Cooper was not harmed in the taking of these photos," a disclaimer at the bottom of her blog notes. "Nor was he consulted. This entire site is completely unauthorized."

In an email to The Huffington Post, Davies said she went with Cooper, instead of other male celebs like Ryan Gosling, because she attended college with him. She also said she was once in a play with the now-famous actor.

As for fending off a potentially jealous husband, she says her hubby, Ed, "is awesome ... totally supportive [and] thinks it's funny."

Davies says she's working on a book for the project and hopes -- should Cooper see this -- that the actor likes the pictures.

No "Soup" host for you, CBS.

In May, Joel McHale retweeted a photo of himself, CBS head Les Moonves and Julie Chen, and then everyone lost it. The Internet assumed this confirmed McHale would replace Craig Ferguson on "The Late Late Show," though CBS adamantly denied the rumors. Now, McHale is finally coming clean about the picture, and his answer seems pretty definitive.

"It was fucking picture!" McHale told Conan O'Brien.

Yep. Pretty definitive.

Rob Lowe Reveals His Most Devastating Moment As A Parent

As one of the most famous actors of his generation, Rob Lowe is paid to experience emotion, or at least show it on screen. He was not prepared for his feelings, however, as he brought his son Matthew to college for the first time.

When Lowe joined HuffPost Live on Friday to discuss his work on Genworth's #LetsTalk Tour, he shared with host Ricky Camilleri how he's adjusted his professional life to his personal life over the years.

"I was not prepared at all for the level of emotion I was going to feel dropping my first son off at college," Lowe said. "I knew it would be bittersweet. I had no idea how affected I would be. The irony is I was so emotional over something so good. This is the good news. All the grades, all the homework, all the tutors, all the guidance, and it's all paid off. Why am I feeling so devastated?"

Lowe, 50, has two sons: Matthew and Johnowen. Lowe spoke glowingly of the pair and added that he thinks it would be a bit of a "waste" if either entered show business, saying they have "so much to offer."

Here's Video Of Kim Kardashian Being Accosted By Man In Blackface At The Vienna Ball

Remember back in February when Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner were accosted by a guy in blackface at the Vienna Ball? Not cool, right? Well, they caught the entire incident on camera, and it's not pretty.

The latest episode of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," airing on June 29, shows exactly how the reality stars reacted when "comedian" Chris Stephan, showed up in blackface makeup, mimicking Kardashian's then-fiancé, now-husband Kanye West.

Kardashian didn't comment on the incident at the time, but she told the camera, "I can't believe there's this guy in full blackface. I just am so confused. I don't get why him or anyone else would find this funny."

She added, "Is this just like a sick joke?"

Kardashian and her mother tried not to make a scene while making it clear that they wanted Stephan removed from the event. After giving a brief lesson in the history of blackface, Jenner told the camera, "To have someone so ignorant come to such a beautiful event and spoil it for everyone, is just taking a huge step backwards."

The reality stars were so upset by the incident that they left the event (which Kardashian was reportedly paid $500,000 to attend) early.

This is the first time Kardashian has commented specifically on what went down at the Vienna Ball, but she did pen a blog post this past May addressing the issue of racism as a whole.

"To be honest, before I had North, I never really gave racism or discrimination a lot of thought. It is obviously a topic that Kanye is passionate about, but I guess it was easier for me to believe that it was someone else’s battle," she wrote on May 7. "But recently, I’ve read and personally experienced some incidents that have sickened me and made me take notice. I realize that racism and discrimination are still alive, and just as hateful and deadly as they ever have been."

As for Stephan, he offered a pseudo apology after news of his so-called "joke" broke back in February.

"I was nice and gentle, Richard Lugner called me and said ‘Kim wants to see her man, Chris do something.’ I just got dressed up and got into the Opera for free because of it :-) thanks Richi," he wrote in one Facebook post. Later adding: "I'm very sorry that the whole thing went to shit and was completely misunderstood. I'm an Arab myself, born in Austria. I didn't want to be racist in any way by doing this, and I apologize again to anyone who felt offended."

Jill Whelan -- the actress who played Captain Stubing's daughter Vicki on "The Love Boat" -- is headed for a divorce.

TMZ reports that the 47-year-old actress has filed for divorce from her husband John Chaykowsky after a decade of marriage. Whelan reportedly requested full legal and physical custody of their 8-year-old son, as well as spousal support.

News of the split comes a few weeks after Whelan -- who you may also remember as the "sick girl" in the movie "Airplane!" -- reunited with some of her "Love Boat" co-stars for an episode of "Oprah: Where Are They Now?"

'The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby' Trailer Will Break Your Heart

If you've been aching for some gut-wrenching romantic heartbreak, look no further than Ned Benson's upcoming "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby."

The film, which stars Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy, follows the rise and fall of a couple's intense emotional relationship, and has a vibe reminiscent of "Blue Valentine," but somehow even more romantic/tragic.

Told from the different perspectives of each of its main characters, the work actually premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last fall as two subtitled pieces, "Him," and "Her." Those features were recut into the combined "Them" and that debuted in Cannes this past May.

The new version will hit theaters on Sept. 26, but the separate films will also be released later in the fall.

"We have two different versions now,” Chastain, who is also a producer on the project, told Hitfix. “You get to choose what you want to see.”

After watching the film's tear-jerking trailer, you're probably going to want to catch both.

A Shocking 60 Percent Of Restaurants On 'Kitchen Nightmares' Are Closed

In the restaurant business, it’s all about making dough.

After 10 years, "Kitchen Nightmares" is finally coming to an end, but for many restaurants that appeared on the show, the real nightmare continues.

According to Grub Street New York, more than 60 percent of the restaurants featured on the U.S. version of "Kitchen Nightmares" are now closed. Even more shockingly, almost 30 percent closed within one year of their episode airing (some even before).

Chef Gordon Ramsay credits "Kitchen Nightmares" as the show that "propelled" his TV career, but unfortunately the data suggests it may have ended a few careers, too.

The good news for Ramsay is that around 40 percent of the restaurants from the show still remain open.

Among the success stories is Amy's Baking Company, a restaurant famous for being the only place Ramsay walked out on and whose owners went on to call those who gave them negative feedback on social media "pansies" who "have no balls."

What Original 'Dreamgirl' Sheryl Lee Ralph Did With Her Tony Nomination (VIDEO)

Twenty-five years before Jennifer Hudson and Jamie Foxx starred in "Dreamgirls" on the silver screen, stage actress Sheryl Lee Ralph helped bring the story to life on Broadway. Night after night, Ralph charmed theater audiences with her portrayal of lead singer Deena Jones, and in 1982, she earned a Tony nomination for her performance.

Fast-forward three decades.

Even though Ralph has transitioned from the stage to the screen with parts in shows like "Designing Women" and, most recently, "Instant Mom," she has still held on to her beloved Tony nomination. Inviting cameras inside her home for her upcoming appearance on "Oprah: Where Are They Now?", the original Dreamgirl shows exactly what she did with that small but significant piece of paper.

Perched by Ralph's front door in a thick silver frame, the Tony nomination remains front and center in her home -- and heart. "I love this. I keep it right there by the door," she says in the video above. "There you have it. 'Sheryl Lee Ralph, for 'Dreamgirls.' Oh, it just looks good!"

"Dreamgirls" debuted on Broadway on Dec. 20, 1981 and dominated the 1982 Tony Awards, earning a total of 13 nominations, including Ralph's Best Actress nod.

"The musical was a hit, the likes of which nobody had seen -- nor did they expect it," Ralph says.

Having since become a prominent name in both theater and film, Ralph also opens up in the video below about the "rough, tough business" of Hollywood and what it now takes to be famous in a world with nearly no privacy.

"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.

Bobby Womack, Legendary R&B Singer, Dies At Age 70

$

Bobby Womack, a colorful and highly influential R&B singer-songwriter who influenced artists from the Rolling Stones to Damon Albarn, has died. He was 70.

Womack's publicist Sonya Kolowrat said Friday that the singer had died, but she could provide no other details. With an incomparable voice few could match, Womack was a stirring singer and guitarist in his own right and a powerful songwriter whose hits like "Across 110th Street," ''If You Think You're Lonely Now" and "I Wish He Didn't Trust Me So Much" captured the imagination of future stars in rock 'n' roll and R&B.

"He had a style that nobody else could ever capture," longtime friend, gospel singer Candi Staton, said in a statement. "I loved him and I will miss him so, so very much."

Womack's death comes as something of a surprise. Though he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease two years ago and overcame addiction and multiple health issues, including prostate and colon cancer, recently, he seemed in good health and spirits when he performed earlier this month at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

He told the BBC in 2013 the Alzheimer's diagnosis came after he began having difficulty remembering his songs and the names of people he had worked with.

And there have been many. The soul singer cut a wide path through the music business as a performer and songwriter in a career that spanned seven decades. Womack was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, long after he'd lost his fortune and his career to addiction.

He spoke of kicking his substance abuse problems in a 2012 interview with The Associated Press and all the friends he'd lost to drugs over the years.

"I think the biggest move for me was to get away from the drug scene," Womack said. "It wasn't easy. It was hard because everybody I knew did drugs. ... They didn't know when to turn it off. So for me looking at Wilson Pickett, close friends of mine, Sly Stone, Jim Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and I can go on and on and on, and I say all of them died because of drugs."

According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website, Womack was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and sang gospel music at a young age, performing with his brothers in The Womack Brothers. Under the influence of gospel and R&B legend Sam Cooke, who signed the group to his personal label, Womack moved into secular music. In the early 1960s his group recorded "It's All Over Now," which was covered and by the Stones and became the band's first number-one hit.

His songs have been recorded by multiple artists, and he played as a session musician in Memphis in the 1960s.

Albarn and XL Recordings president Richard Russell helped Womack regain his career with 2012 comeback album "The Bravest Man in the Universe." The album was a departure for Womack, full of electronic music and beats. But it was lauded by critics for a simple reason: That distinctive voice of his still brought chills.

"I don't think he ever really thought that he would do anything again," Albarn said of Womack in March. "Watching his rehabilitation and watching his ability to confront new material and new challenges was nothing short of miraculous at the time, and he still today continues to battle his demons and his illness. But he's a beautiful person and when he opens his mouth and that voice comes out, it is something that is somehow touched by God."

Artist's Portrayal Of Kim Kardashian As A Religious Idol Stirs Controversy, Obviously

No matter how hard you try, it's nearly impossible to resist becoming an enthusiastic or begrudging member of the Kardashian Kult. We don't know how it happened, nor do we understand why, but the reality TV family has become an actual topic of conversation, debate and articles -- like this one, sorry!

The reigning Queen of the Kardashian Klan is, of course, Kim, who, through a combination of selfies, marriages, divorces, civil rights activism, a video game, and a sex tape, has managed to make herself the Elizabeth Taylor of our time... or something.

kim k

A Brooklyn-based artist is calling us all out for our Kardashian-centric ways through a series of dizzying depictions of Mrs. West as a variety of religious icons. Hannah Kunkle delivers Kardashian as the Virgin Mary, Medusa, the devil and even Kleopatra. The 23-year-old artist's garish style, somewhere between net art and religious tapestry, perfectly captures the absurdity of our nation's Kardashian obsession and predilection towards celeb idolatry in general.

"Kim Kardashian is the subject of this series because she is someone I and many others are fascinated with without even sometimes knowing why," Kunkle explained to The Huffington Post. "She is everywhere we look and knowledge of the ins and outs of her life is almost unavoidable... Kim Kardashian has such a strange version of fame. We don't totally understand what makes her so fascinating."

Kunkle's work recently went on view in a Bushwick exhibition titled "The Passion of Kim Kardashian." Not too surprisingly, the religious community was unamused. "It's deplorable," Pastor Reggie Stutzman of Real Life Church told The New York Daily News. "It's sacrilegious, irrelevant, and disrespectful... It's idol worship."

The Hindu community wasn't too keen on Kunkle's artistic vision either. "I am certainly not happy about this," said Dr. Uma Mysorekar, of the Hindu Temple Society of North America. "Any religious symbol should not be used or abused."

Yet Kunkle, who thought the backlash was "pretty hilarious," wasn't about to let religious tradition get in the way of celebrity obsession. "Kim Kardashian is God," she summarized to VICE. "She’s crazy bodacious and has the nose job of an angel. I don’t know if she’s omniscient, but no one can deny she’s not omnipresent. Kim floats above us all, even the deniers and the haters. We have accepted her into our lives via television screens, memes, and Instagram feeds. If Jay Z is the father and Yeezus is the son, then she is the ever-present holy ghost of pop culture."

Fabulous style moments were few and far between this week, however, we were able to find a handful of bright spots that deserved some acknowledgement.

High contrast looks in black and white ruled the red carpet and were spotted on Lea Michele, Dita Von Teese and our favorite style star of the week, Diane Kruger.

Check out our best-dressed picks below and let us know if you agree.

Diane Kruger in Roland Mouret

This outfit shows how much fun you can have playing with proportions. The tiny polka dots on a crop top teamed with bigger polka dots on an extra long pencil skirt play perfectly together. And a pop of color via Kruger's yellow pumps are the finishing touch.

Lea Michele in Paule Ka

The white paneling on the bodice and hips of this stunning gown give the illusion of a smaller waist -- not that the actress-singer needs it! And we can't get enough of her glowing skin exposed by the strapless silhouette and front slit.

Keira Knightley

Our jaws dropped when we saw this powder blue frock on Knightley. The retro look is exactly the level of awesome we expect from the actress.

Dita Von Teese

No one does vintage glamour quite like Dita Von Teese. This cream and black polka dot gown is definitely a reflection of her signature style, but looks far from dated or costumey.

Megan Montaner in Dolce and Gabbana

Crop tops are everywhere and the red carpet is no exception. We love seeing these midriff-baring designs get a glamorous upgrade-- and Ms. Montaner's glitzy get-up is the perfect example.

Pablo Schreiber Won't Be In Much Of 'Orange Is The New Black' Season 3

The love-hate relationship with Pablo Schreiber's Pornstache is a complicated one. We hate when the guy is lurking around Litchfield giving out shots like candy, but then again it's a much less exciting place without him.

At the end of "Orange Is the New Black" Season 2 (spoiler alert!) Pornstache is arrested and taken to the other side of prison. Schreiber didn't appear much in the second season and didn't even show up until halfway through, and it looks like that's the same case for Season 3. When talking to Vulture, the actor revealed that he's a series regular on a new HBO show "The Brink" and shook his head when asked if he'll appear in the third season much.

We may not get to enjoy watching Pornstache suffer behind bars as much as we'd like, but we will get to meet his mother, played by new guest star Mary Steengurgen. "I'm not sure what she'll do that will advance the Pornstache plotline, but for now, Mendez is in prison, biding his time. Spoiler alert!" the actor said. With Daya's baby on the way, Schrieber thinks Pornstache would make an amazing father. If he could, the former C.O. would have six to eight kids, "Little porn kings." Series spin-off, anyone?

Eminem's Daughter Graduates From High School, Reminds Us That We Are All Really Old

Eminem's "baby girl" aka Hailie Mathers is all grown up. In fact, she just graduated high school.

In October, Hailie was named homecoming queen of Chippewa Valley High School and on June 11 she graduated with an Academic Excellence Award, honoring her parents influence on the school website.

"My mother and father are because they have pushed me to be the person I am and have given me all the support to achieve what I have," she said.

This is all really nice, because she appears to be having a really great, normal life. Although, the real take away here is that anyone who remembers listening to "Hailie's Song" in 2002 is now officially ancient.

As Eminem once said: "My baby girl keeps gettin' older / I watch her grow up with pride / People make jokes 'cause they don't understand me / They just don't see my real side."

CORRECTION: The Facebook link for this post incorrectly stated that Hailie graduated from college. As the article reads, she graduated from high school.

10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About 'Doug'

$

It's been 15 years since the series finale of "Doug." In honor of that fact, HuffPost TV spoke to Jim Jinkins about how he pioneered a new era of kids' television. You can make that deep dive here or join us for the short form version with these 11 things you probably didn't know about "Doug."

  • "Doug" was not meant to be a TV show. Jinkins came up with the character when he drew single-panel cartoons after his work day and later processed the idea into a book. His idea only found its way to the small screen when he was led to a Nicktoons producer by word of mouth.

  • "Doug" (and "Ren & Stimpy" and "Rugrats", all ordered by that same producer, Vanessa Coffey) was one of the first original concept cartoons on TV. Everything else was a pre-sold idea, like "Ninja Turtles," which first existed as a comic.

  • Many of the characters and elements of Bluffington came from Jinkins real life. Patti is most certainly based on a real girl Jinkins crushed on growing up.

  • Oh, and Skeeter is not necessarily black. Jinkins understands how you might read that into the character, but at the end of the day "He's blue and he's Doug's friend."

  • The color selection came when Jinkins realized he was not limited to flesh tones. He deliberately made Ms. Wingo and Roger green, to remove the prejudice of green being bad.

  • Doug's name was originally Brian, but Jinkins changed it because he thought that was "too fancy."

  • The fact that Doug can't dance (and the eponymous episode) come from Jinkins' childhood, during which he was not allowed to dance for religious reasons that he says "now seem absurd."

  • Jinkins always intended for "Doug" to be a moral show. He had writers note the kid issue of each episode on every script, so the message would not get lost in the shuffle of production.

  • In the show bible, it says that Doug likes banana pizza, though Jinkins never had him featured eating it during the show.

  • Finally, the explanation for Doug's hair? Jinkins was just looking for the quickest and easiest way to draw the character (or, as he said, "Those are not hair plugs.").
