Lil' Kim Welcomes Baby Royal Reign, Name Surprises No One

Lil' Kim is now a mom!

The rapper, 39, gave birth to a baby girl at 9:58 a.m. on Monday, June 9, at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, "Entertainment Tonight" confirms. The baby's name is Royal Reign, which should come as no surprise to Lil' Kim fans, considering the Brooklyn native has been using the moniker "Queen" since the '90s.

Last month, Lil' Kim had a lavish baby shower at the Broad Street Ballroom in New York City, E! News reported. Rapper Mr. Papers, the baby's father, joined Lil' Kim for the celebration.

“Everything had a royal twist,” she told InTouch magazine during the royalty-themed bash, which was filmed for "David Tutera’s CELEBrations" on WEtv. “At the beginning of the party, I was announced as The Queen with two trumpeters and even wore a crown!”

Lil' Kim debuted her pregnancy at The Blonds fashion show in New York City in February, wearing a body-con dress. She later confirmed she was expecting her first child.

Cindy Crawford's Kids Are Her Mini Doppelgängers

It isn't totally outlandish to point out that a parent resembles his or her children, but Cindy Crawford's kids are seriously her doppelgängers.

Crawford posted a photo of her kids to Instagram on Friday, June 6, and the two look exactly like their supermodel mom. Kaia, 13, has her mother's brunette hair and almond eyes; Presley, 15, has mom's trademark mole and Blue Steel skills.

Uncanny.

The Grim Stats Associated With Drowsy Driving

0
0
WASHINGTON -- The car crash this past Saturday that critically injured TV star Tracy Morgan and killed fellow comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair has focused new attention on the dangers associated with "drowsy driving."

The truck driver who hit Morgan's limo bus, 35-year-old Kevin Roper, had not slept in more than 24 hours, according to a report by the Associated Press, which added that the lack of sleep was included in the criminal complaint filed against Roper.

Just how big of a danger does drowsy driving pose? Researchers have come up with a number of different answers. A French study from 2012 concluded that drowsy driving was "almost as bad as drinking and driving," noting that "drivers who were either drunk or sleepy were at least twice as likely to be responsible for a vehicle accident compared to their well-rested or sober counterparts."

Other studies suggest that the two aren't quite in the same league when it comes to endangering others on the road. Drunk driving accidents, for example, caused 10,228 fatalities in 2010, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That same year, drowsy drivers caused 764 fatal crashes, according to data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Below are some more facts about drowsy driving:

  • 100,000: The estimated number of police-reported crashes as a direct result of driver fatigue annually, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

  • 71,000: The estimated number of injuries from those accidents.

  • 12.5 billion: The estimated number of dollars lost from those accidents.

  • 1,550: The estimated number of deaths per year from those accidents, as of about a decade ago. Since then, this number has gradually declined to about half its previous level.

  • 737: The number of deaths from drowsy driving accidents in 2012, according to data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

  • 2.4: The percentage of driving-related fatalities caused by drowsy driving in 2012.

  • 8.9: The percentage of driving-related fatalities in Wyoming caused by drowsy driving in 2012, the highest percentage of any state.

  • 71: The percentage of adults between the ages of 18 and 29 who are "likely" to drive while drowsy, according to a 2002 National Sleep Foundation poll.

  • 56: The percentage of men likely to drive drowsy according to that poll.

  • 45: The percentage of women likely to drive drowsy according to that poll.

  • 168 million: The estimated number of people who had driven while sleepy in the past year, according to a 2005 NSF poll.

  • 37: The percentage of adults who had "nodded off or fallen asleep at least once since they began driving," according to a 2003 Gallup survey.

  • 8: The percentage of drivers who have nodded off or fallen asleep at the wheel in the last six months, according to that same survey.

  • 48: The percentage of those drivers who admitted to nodding off or falling asleep and did so between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

  • 59: The percentage of those drivers who admitted to nodding off or falling asleep who did so while posting speeds of 55 mph or higher.

  • Less than 12: The percentage of people who said they would stop driving when they felt tired behind the wheel, according to a 1999 AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety study.

  • 8: The percentage of drivers who said they would stop for a nap when feeling tired behind the wheel, according to the same study.

There is more data than just the above. But the numbers tell an unmistakable story: If you don't get sleep, you're more likely to have a fatigue-related crash. Below is a relevant chart from the AAA Foundation study.

Lisa Loring -- the actress who played Wednesday Addams on "The Addams Family" in the 1960s -- is getting a divorce.

TMZ reports that the 56-year-old filed for divorce from her husband, Graham Ritch, this week, though the pair had been separated since 2008. They married back in 2003.

Loring reportedly asked the court to deny her estranged husband spousal support.

After "The Addams Family," Loring went on to roles on "Fantasy Island" and the CBS soap opera "As the World Turns."

This Is Why Going A Day Without Sleep Is So Dangerous

0
0
The truck driver who was involved in the June 7 car accident that injured comedian Tracy Morgan and killed comedian James McNair had not slept for more than 24 hours in the time before the crash occurred, according to news reports.

A criminal complaint was filed on Monday that said Kevin Roper, who is facing several charges including vehicular homicide, reckless driving and assault, was driving “without having slept for a period in excess of 24 hours,” NBC News reported.

Of course, it’s no secret at this point just how deadly drowsy driving is. A recent Archives of Internal Medicine study even showed how similar it is to drunk driving, with both doubling the risk of a car accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 100,000 crashes occur a year that directly result from driver fatigue, causing a yearly toll of 71,000 injuries and 1,550 deaths from those accidents.

Research has shown that staying up for 21 hours straight leads to detriments in the ability to maintain speed and road position while driving, said Dr. Nathaniel Watson, M.D., an associate professor of neurology University of Washington and co-director of the University of Washington Medicine Sleep Center.

"Your reaction time is slowed, your psychomotor vigilance [is affected]," Watson, who also serves on the board of directors for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, told HuffPost. And "people that are severely sleep-deprived can have brief microsleeps, where if you’re measuring the EEG on their brain, they have a few seconds of sleep that would actually be captured [by the EEG sensor]."

Sleep deprivation doesn't just affect the parts of the brain that control wake and sleep -- it also affects the brain regions responsible for memory and executive functioning of the human body and the parts of the brain that help you plan and think through different decisions through the day.

So not only are things like concentration and attention affected by lack of sleep, but "it really impairs a person's ability to make correct decisions," Watson said. "The more sleep-deprived a person gets, the less insight they have into their problems. So unfortunately, the more sleep-deprived a person is, the less they understand how sleepy they actually are and how impaired they are."

Is It Time For Joan Rivers To Shut Her Mouth Yet?

See these two? Could they be the next Ryan and Rachel? Well, if you think so (and we do), you're half-right, because while that's not Ryan Gosling, it is a close second: that's Jake Gyllenhaal, and yes, Rachel McAdams, too.

Rumor has it that they're quietly dating, and if you thought that Jake dating Taylor Swift was pretty sweet, once you got past the randomness of the pairing and the age difference, then you'll just love this (right? You love this already, don't you).

Wedding Registry 101 With Miss USA Erin Brady

2014-06-09-IMG_0147.jpg

Recently I had an interesting opportunity to work with beautiful Miss USA, Erin Brady, whose reign is coming to an end this summer to design her wedding registry. Erin and her fiancé are getting married this year. A properly designed registry is an excellent and effective instrument to let guests know what exactly you would like and appreciate as your wedding gifts. And of course, this is also your chance to get some really interesting and special pieces which you can keep in your family for generations and otherwise would probably never buy.

2014-06-09-IMG_0032.jpg

Bernardaud, the leading luxury French porcelain manufacturer since the 18th century graciously welcomed Erin and me into its flagship showroom on Park Avenue and East 59th Street and collaborated with us by displaying all of their fantastic porcelain collections in one location. We are very appreciative of their consideration and participation.

2014-06-09-IMG_0057.jpg

When designing a wedding registry it is important to plan meticulously. Erin and I met prior to visiting the Bernardaud showroom and discussed her style and entertainment preferences, as well as the anticipated location of the newlyweds' residence. Establishing at least those aspects will save time and eliminate costly mistakes. It is also important to know your guests and design the registry which will offer an opportunity for all to participate.

2014-06-09-IMG_0006.jpg

There are a few things you have to ask yourself before designing a registry. First, it is important to estimate the size of the family or friends you might host so that you can correctly order the amount of china and serving pieces. Depending on a budget, you can start with an 8-piece place setting and add some serving dishes and expand later as needed. What's great about Bernardaud is that the designs are truly timeless and they stay in production for a long time, so you can always add to your collection or replace broken pieces.

Here are the basics you will need:

  • Chargers

  • Dinner plates

  • Salad plates

  • Soup/Pasta bowls

  • Bread & Butter (optional)

  • Teacups & saucers

  • A couple of serving pieces (optional).

2014-06-09-IMG_0011.jpg

When creating a list of china for your registry, think seasonality and versatility. Choose a light colored palette such as lavender, light green or periwinkle blue for your Spring/ Summer collection to celebrate the warm weather holidays like Easter, Mother's Day, or simply first day of summer and deep, rich-colored collection in burgundies, burnt orange, rose gold, chocolate brown or any other color that strikes your fancy to celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas in style! Here are the ideas that were presented to Erin.

2014-06-09-IMG_0030.jpg

Fall/Winter Entertaining
Erin shared with me that she likes to entertain in the fall and I couldn't agree more. Very warm rich colors, reds, wood tones, dark cherry are Erin's favorite. There is just something so warm and inviting about entertaining in autumn -- a hearty meal, full-bodied wine and great conversations at the table. If that's your favorite month as well, select the plates to showcase all the gorgeous colors autumn has to offer.

2014-06-09-IMG_0098.jpg

My goal was to put together a very elegant but yet traditional fall set for Erin that she can use for years to come. I generally love mixing high and low but for this setting we went all the way. We chose intricately designed porcelain salad plates with the gilded fan pattern to create some dining table drama and I layered the setting with simpler gold-rimmed dinner plates in white and a burgundy charger which really helped to define the color palette and further emphasized the delicate design.

2014-06-09-IMG_0026.jpg

Don't get discouraged by the hefty price tag of the salad plates, you just need enough to mix with the more affordable white dinner plates with golden rim from Parmyre collection. And as a base I used Opaline charger in Black Tulip (burgundy color). Think seasonal when it comes to flowers, it saves costs and adds to the richness of the table. As a vase I used Bernardaud's candle votive in gold but you can easily re-purpose some objects from your household, there are no rules, everything will work.

2014-06-09-IMG_0010.jpg

Spring/Summer Set

Change your tablescape with the season. When I think about spring entertainment, the bright colors, seasonal flowers and produce, light, colorful dishes packed with seasonal ingredients come to mind. Apply the same concept when choosing your Spring/Summer set. For Erin, I created this very feminine, sophisticated setting with three collections mixed together.

2014-06-09-IMG_0096.jpg

As the foundation I used Bernardaud's Frivole collection with its sprawling light green leaf design and imaginative amethyst pattern which is daringly original and faintly feminine. But to make this setting even more interesting and give the bride more options in the future for adding to her existing collection, I used Constant dinner plate with its modern interpretation of the Empire style and decorations of traditional acorns, oak and laurel leaves which provided the creative contrast for this setting.

2014-06-09-IMG_0018.jpg

The result was an elegant, delicately sophisticated, spring inspired table décor; one that your guests would be impressed by and absolutely in love with! As a base- Opaline charger in heather color.

2014-06-09-IMG_00101.jpg

Spring flowers like lilacs, peonies, roses and tulips pick all those colors from the plates and compliment the setting in unison.

2014-06-09-IMG_0013.jpg

White Canvas

White plates go with everything, you can dress them up or down, add color, texture, bring antique elements. And let's admit- the food does look better on white canvas! For this table setting, I mixed two modern white collections, both resembling water.

2014-06-09-IMG_0107.jpg

I picked Bulle collection for the charger and the salad plate due to its truly unique design. The salad plate has been crafted to resemble a rain droplet bouncing back off the water surface and the charger has an opposite effect, the droplet striking the water with the concentric ripples of water expanding outward.

2014-06-09-IMG_0101.jpg

To stay a little playful with this setting I added an all-time brides' favorite Ecume White collection as a dinner plate. Ecume translates as sea foam which is depicted by the masterfully refined enamel work on the white borders of the plate.

2014-06-09-IMG_0027.jpg

Decorate the table with fresh herbs; I used a water goblet in amethyst color to display the fragrant oregano, mint and thyme. And purple napkin to create a contrast for the setting.

2014-06-09-IMG_0008.jpg

Modern Fusion
Erin is particularly fond of modern style and for that I assembled this beautiful gold leaf incrusted setting. There are two collections combined, the gorgeous Feuille D'or or Gold Leaf from which I used the charger and the salad plate as the base of the setting and Fusion, a rectangular radiant white porcelain plate to add the modernity. The two geometrical shapes- rectangular and round work so well together to create a setting that would fit in wonderfully in any modern décor and yet has that element of timelessness that will endure for years to come. This table setting with silver or golden leaf embellishment will be perfect to celebrate a stylish cocktail party or your first anniversary at home. This setting will look beautiful in a New York City apartment and later can be easily transitioned into a suburban home.

2014-06-09-IMG_0039.jpg

As a simple, no-fuss yet striking floral display, use orchids. Cut each individual orchid bud and place it in the clear glass with a little bit of water on the bottom and place your arrangements sporadically along the table for some beautiful effect.

2014-06-09-IMG_0116.jpg

Tips and Advice:

  • Create an ambiance

  • Get organized

  • Plan ahead

  • Set up your table the night before

  • Everyone looks better with the candlelight

Jaime King Shares A Breastfeeding Photo, And A Message For All Moms To Get Behind

Actress Jaime King gave birth to James Knight in October. Eight months later, the new mom has an important message for people on different sides of the "feeding debate" -- those who think breastfeeding should be private, and those who insist moms who bottle-feed are harming their babies.

King posted an image of herself nursing James on Instagram with the caption:

#JamesKnight is now 8 months old! These are the moments a mother lives for. Breastfeeding should not be taboo- and bottle feeding should not be judged- it's ALL fun for the whole family:)

King's words are in line with the "I Support You" movement that HuffPost Parents hosted in August 2013. We teamed up with three bloggers who asked moms to share messages of unity and acceptance with other moms, regardless of how they feed. “We all feed our children differently, but we are all feeding with love, and in ways that work for our individual circumstances and family dynamics,” their mission statement read.

Clint Eastwood's Son Shows Off His Good Genes In Hugo Boss Ads

With the much-anticipated film adaptation of "Jersey Boys" impending release on June 20, it seems like all eyes are on director Clint Eastwood at the moment. But here at HuffPost Style, we're too enamored with another member of the Eastwood family: Scott.

Clint's 28-year-old son is once again giving his handsome dad a run for his money as the new face of Hugo Boss.

The brand is known for their classic design (especially now that Jason Wu is their artistic director), so it makes sense that the "original all-American hunk's" offspring would be chosen to represent the new collection. In a release, Hugo Boss refers to their suits as "suave, sophisticated and timelessly elegant," which definitely sounds like an Eastwood to us.

'Marvel's Daredevil,' Upcoming Netflix Series, Just Cast Its Villain

0
0
Marvel and Netflix have announced who will play the villain in the upcoming “Daredevil” series: Vincent D’Onofrio will step into the role of Wilson Fisk, better known to comic book fans as Kingpin.

The 13-episode series, which Netflix is set to release all at once in 2015, will follow Marvel character Daredevil, the alter ego of Matt Murdock, a hero who is blinded in an accident and somehow gains superhuman abilities beyond sight.

D’Onofrio previously had roles in “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Men in Black,” “Full Metal Jacket” and “Homicide.”

“We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ in such an integral role,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television. “Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.”

D'Onofrio's casting comes just weeks after the news that actor Charlie Cox will be taking on the role of Matt Murdock in the series.

"Marvel's Daredevil" will be followed by four more series, which will follow Marvel characters Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. These will lead into a unified series called "The Defenders."

Angelina Jolie Angers Chinese Fans Into Possible 'Maleficent' Boycott

The Chinese government softened for Angelina Jolie, letting her fiancé, Brad Pitt, into the country for the ongoing "Maleficent" press tour despite the fact that he was banned from China after filming "Seven Years In Tibet." Now, Jolie's the one on the outs with the nationalists.

The Independent reports that the A-lister and UN Goodwill Ambassador recently “became the subject of controversy in China, after she labelled film director Ang Lee Taiwanese, not Chinese, inadvertently embroiling herself in complex cross-Strait relations.”

It seems Jolie was asked by an AP reporter during a "Maleficent" press conference in Shanghai to name her favorite Chinese director. Her answer, reprinted in the Independent and the Wall Street Journal, was arguably carefully delivered:

“I am not sure if you consider Ang Lee Chinese, he’s Taiwanese but he does many Chinese-language films with many Chinese artists and actors, and I think his works and the actors in his films are the ones I am most familiar with and very fond of,” she reportedly said.

The speech was “widely” disseminated across Chinese media, according to the Chinese-language news site ET Today. Those who took issue with it pounced on Jolie’s reference to Lee as Taiwanese.

“By implying that Taiwan and China are two separate countries, in a moment of excitement, a brilliant woman [Jolie] became a stupid laughing stock,” said one Chinese Weibo user, according to the Independent. Another reportedly labelled Jolie a “deranged Taiwan independence supporter.”

China has disputed the sovereignty of Taiwan since a rival government was established on the island in 1949, after the Chinese Civil War. Tensions have cooled, but China still sees Taiwan as a “renegade province” they are prepared to take by force, as the WSJ reports.

“It’s not clear whether Ms. Jolie knew that she risked getting caught in the cross-Strait cross-fire,” continues the WSJ story, “but her comments certainly set off a volley of scathing comments among Chinese Internet users, with some threatening to boycott her movies for, as one put it, 'disrespecting China’s sovereignty.'"

The movie has yet to open in China, but has held at number two in Taipei since its opening on May 30.

Indeed, the WSJ reports, there’s been a “new surge in popularity” for the "Maleficent" star in Taiwan because of her comments. As the saying must go in the very large Jolie-Pitt household: you can’t win ‘em all.

Robert Kardashian Hid Damning Evidence Against O.J. Simpson: Victim's Dad

0
0
The father of the man O.J. Simpson was accused of killing says Kim Kardashian's dad hid evidence that would have convicted the star football player.

In an interview with the Mail Online, Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman, said Robert Kardashian took a bag of damning evidence from Simpson's house the day after his son and Simpson's ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson were killed.

Kardashian was indeed seen leaving Simpson's Los Angeles home carrying a suitcase the day after the fatal stabbings, the New York Times reported.

"That evidence would have convicted 'the killer,'" Goldman, who refuses to call Simpson by his name, told the Mail.

June 12 is the 20th anniversary of the slayings.

Robert Kardashian, the father of Kim Kardashian, was a confidant of Simpson's and was one of his defense attorneys at his 1994 murder trial. Simpson was acquitted but subsequently convicted in a wrongful death civil case.

Goldman didn't go into detail about what "evidence" he thinks was in the bag, but in a previous interview with Radar Online, Ron Goldman's sister Kim speculated that the bag possibly contained the murder weapon, which was never found.

"I have always wondered what was in his luggage bag, and if it did indeed hold the murder weapon that was used to kill my brother and Nicole," Kim Goldman said.

The bag was later entered into evidence, but by then it was empty.

Kardashian died in 2003 from esophageal cancer.

During Simpson's murder trial, Kardashian asserted attorney-client privilege and was not called to testify, according to the New York Times.

In a 1996 interview with ABC referenced by the Times, Kardashian admitted he was unsure of his client's innocence.

''I have doubts," Kardashian said. "The blood evidence is the biggest thorn in my side; that causes me the greatest problems. So I struggle with the blood evidence.''

Simpson is currently serving a 9 to 33 year sentence in a Nevada state prison on robbery and kidnapping charges.

For Some Reason, The MLB Just Went All In On A Sing-Along To Taylor Swift's 'Love Story'

What does Major League Baseball have to do with Taylor Swift? Admittedly, not much -- at least, not that we're aware of.

That makes Monday afternoon's events all the more remarkable: A handful of MLB teams went all in on what appears to have been an impromptu digital sing-along to Taylor Swift's 2008 hit, "Love Story."

The official @MLB Twitter account started it off with a picture of two baseball gloves resting next to each other on a bench. The image was captioned with the punny phrase, "It's a glove story..."

A mere six minutes later, the LA Dodgers responded, tweeting the opening lines of "Love Story" back at the MLB. From there, the tweets spiraled into a full-blown sing-along, involving witty lyrical additions from nine other teams from around the league:

A "glove" story, indeed.

Commencement Speakers Had A Powerful Message For The Class Of 2014: Don't Settle

0
0
In 2005, when Steve Jobs addressed Stanford University’s graduating class, he urged students, "You've got to find what you love."

While love of other people was a prevalent theme across commencement speeches in 2014, the love Jobs referenced nine years ago had to do with something else: work.

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work," Jobs said. "And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle."

This year, several commencement speakers echoed Jobs' advice, making pursuit of passion the most powerful message for the class of 2014.

1. Katie Couric, Trinity College:

“Passion is the fuel of high performance, passion prevents you from watching the clock or thinking of work as a four letter word. Passion will make you exude positive energy, and people want to be around positive people.”

“First and fundamentally, you have got to love what you do.”

2. Jay Leno, Emerson College:

“Try not to get a regular job.”

“Never turn down a job because of money. Rather, turn down the job only because you don't like it. Money will come.”

3. Tory Burch, Babson College:

“Being an entrepreneur isn’t just a job title, and it isn’t just about starting a company. It’s a state of mind. It’s about seeing connections others can’t, seizing opportunities others won’t and forging new directions that others haven’t. It’s about being entrepreneurial wherever you are and in whatever you do. It’s about having the courage to give in to passion for an idea that makes your heart race. If it doesn’t scare you, you’re probably not dreaming big enough.”

4. Jim Carrey, Maharishi University:

“My father could have been a great comedian, but he didn't believe that that was possible for him. And so he made a conservative choice. Instead, he got a safe job as an accountant. And when I was twelve years old he was let go from that safe job, and our family had to do whatever we could to survive. I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which was that you can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.”

5. Diana Nyad, Middlebury College:

“Cuba had entered my imagination years before…It’s the Mount Everest of the ocean; it’s epic…At sixty did I have it? Did I have the will, the shoulders? I started to put it together. I started living with that unwavering commitment again. I was high. I was high on the passion.”

“I pose the question to you today...what are you gonna do with this one wild and precious life of yours? And you know in the end, you’ll do many things. You’ll achieve much, you’ll give much. And on your last day, what a goal it would be to say that you did all of it. This college experience and all the rest of your lives so that you just can’t do it even a fingernail better.”

6. Charlie Day, Merrimack College:

"Don't wait for your break, make your break. Go make it happen for yourself."

"You can not let a fear of failure or a fear of comparison or a fear of judgement stop you from doing the things that will make you great. You can not succeed without the risk of failure. You can not have a voice without the risk of criticism. You can not love without the risk of loss. You must take these risks."

Sandra Bullock's Stalker Found In Possession Of Machine Gun, Charged With Multiple Felonies

Joshua Corbett, the man who allegedly broke into Sandra Bullock's home in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 8, has been charged with felony counts of first-degree residential burglary, possession of a machine gun and stalking, TMZ reports.

Police responded to a call of the break-in around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday and arrested Corbett on suspicions of residential burglary. Bullock was home at the time, but was not harmed by the intruder.

Law enforcement sources have now told TMZ that Corbett did not break in to burglarize the home, but rather to have a "face-to-face" with the actress. He did not have a machine gun at the time of the break-in, but officers found the weapon later on while investigating his home.

Shakira Gives Her 1-Year-Old Son A Lesson In U.S. History

0

Shakira’s son Milan won’t stop blowing our minds.

The 1-year-old boy not only has some impressive drumming skills but apparently he can also correctly identify an obelisk -- more specifically the Washington Memorial -- in English. The Colombian star and her son visited Washington D.C. last week and posted a video of their little history lesson on Friday.

A bit of a history buff herself, Shak took little Milan to see the sights in the nation’s capital. The singer uploaded a video with the caption, “Mommy is explaining the Declaration of Independence! I’m very interested in history!”

Milan’s mother tongue may be Spanish but the singer and Spanish boyfriend Gerard Piqué are clearly taking the time to teach their little boy enough English to identify the Lincoln Memorial.

Shakira has often demonstrated an affinity for learning languages and can speak Spanish, Catalan, English, Portuguese and French in various degrees. Apparently those genes are strong in little Milan, who seems well on his way to becoming multilingual.
