Jesse Tyler Ferguson On Why He Gets Nervous When Sofia Vergara Dances

$

Jesse Tyler Ferguson gushed on "Conan" that he absolutely loved almost everything about his recent wedding. He certainly loves his husband, Justin Mikita ... he just doesn't love to dance with him. In fact, the "Modern Family" star would rather not dance at all. Luckily, one member of his TV family is more than willing to step in for him at all award show after parties.

While Ferguson is thrilled Sofia Vergara loves to dance, he does get concerned about her signature backbend move. As Ferguson put it, "She's a buxom lady." He's worried there could be a couple of surprise appearances in a wardrobe malfunction. And it has happened, as a censored picture proved. Of course, Vergara isn't shy about her body. After all, she is the one who Tweeted a picture of her ripped dress on Emmy night, exposing her rear.

Now that Ferguson is settling into married life, there should be fewer dance demands. The next step for the new couple is kids. Ferguson told People that he and his husband are already "baby crazy" after only four months of wedded harmony.

Watch Jesse Tyler Ferguson on "Modern Family," Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC. "Conan" airs weeknights at 11 p.m. EST on TBS.

'We Are What We Remember': The Open Society Archives

$

A satellite map pinpoints the site of a mass grave in Bosnia, Nazi soldiers goosestep through blaring propaganda films from the 1930s, a faded color snapshot shows an ordinary family celebrating a birthday in 1989, before communism fell in Hungary. Housed in the center of Budapest, these images along with hundreds of thousands of photographs, films and documents, bear witness to the last century in the less fortunate parts of the world.

A walk through the building of the Open Society Archives is haunting. Leathery corpses in a pit, a black and white snapshot may be all that remains of a victim of World War II, Soviet tanks train their guns on pedestrians in Budapest.

The archives keep our memories from fading. What is most striking about Istvan Rev, the director of the Archives, who stands as sentinel over this vast collection, is his mastery of memory. His role is safeguarding evidence from some of the most horrific events that have shaped the past decades. Trying to make sense of our collective recollections, he told me how "we are in part what we remember, and we are in part our past."

There is a tendency to forget the lessons of history. Or to reinvent it, shaping events to serve your own version of the truth. After the memory is gone, people can forget to check or ignore the facts and history becomes almost impossible to figure out.

With the rise of extremism, whether in Hungary, Greece or elsewhere, it is worth taking a moment to see where we have been and to find meaning in revisiting the traces of history.
As Istvan Rev said: the past "hovers above our heads, the fact that something happened already is not a guarantee against its' return."

When we don't see the footprints of time, and forget the battles that were waged, and the people whose lives were lost, then we have no understanding of ourselves. The Archives help us to make sense of the events of the past and perhaps will help influence our future.

John Mayer & Katy Perry's 'Who You Love' Video Shows Love Is Wild Ride

Love is a wild ride and you better hold on tight -- at least according to John Mayer and Katy Perry's "Who You Love" video.

The video for Mayer's third single off his most recent album, "Paradise Valley," premiered on Tuesday's "Good Morning America" program and the clip features the real-life couple looking deep into each other's eyes ... when they aren't trying to hold on for dear life to a rather spirited bull.

Mayer and Perry, who apparently had a "long courtship" where they exchanged letters before they began dating in summer 2012, were initially hesitant to be so public about their relationship, although that has changed in more recent months.

“This is the first time we’ve put ourselves out there, specifically for this video,” Perry explained before premiering the video.

Alan Cumming Sounds Off On Being Bisexual Despite Being Married To A Man

Alan Cumming spoke at length about his sexuality in a new Instinct interview.

The 48-year-old actor, who will reprise his Tony Award-winning role as the Emcee in the 2014 Broadway revival of "Cabaret" opposite Michelle Williams, told the publication that he still identifies as bisexual despite being married to his husband, Grant Shaffer.

"I have a healthy sexual appetite and a healthy imagination," Cumming told the magazine. "I still define myself as a bisexual even though I have chosen to be with Grant. I’m sexually attracted to the female form even though I am with a man and I just feel that bisexuals have a bad rap."

The "Good Wife" veteran, who tied the knot with Shaffer in 2012, also sounded off on marriage equality: "I have also been married before to a woman. But it struck me when I got married to Grant, how great it is to be able to do this with all of our family. We first got married in London and then here in New York on our 5th wedding anniversary. I think we have a long way to go even though great strides have been made."

He then added, "Until all the laws are equal, we can’t blame people for being prejudiced if the law of the land does not fight that prejudice."

You can read Cumming's full Instinct interview here.

Other celebrities like Lady Gaga and Anna Paquin have also endured media criticism because they identify as bisexual, despite being in relationships with men.

Cumming's remarks echo those he made in a 2012 interview with HuffPost Gay Voices shortly after his wedding.

"Everyone thinks of me as kind of a party boy, and I suppose I am," he said at the time. "But I love the fact that I'm with someone I love, and that relationship is recognized by society as valid and legal, and has all of the benefits and protections that straight people get ... In places where you can't get married, gay people don't have that really important ritual that straight people have of everyone they know -- all your family and friends -- coming together to celebrate your love as in a wedding."

Colin Farrell And Elizabeth Taylor Had A 'Romantic Relationship' Before She Passed, He Says

Well here's something you don't hear every day: Collin Farrell, 37, admits to having had a romantic relationship with the late Elizabeth Taylor, who passed away in 2011 at age 79.

Farrell was a guest on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" yesterday (Dec. 16) and opened up about the unlikely love story. The actor told DeGeneres he met Taylor's entourage at the hospital when his son Henry was born, as the iconic actress was having a stent put into her heart at the same time.

"I got home a few days later with Henry," Farrell recounted, "and I was thinking about Elizabeth and how she was doing and I called my publicist and I said I bumped into some people of Elizabeth Taylor's, some friends of hers, could I send her some flowers? And my publicist said that's funny because I'm looking at an orchid from Elizabeth Taylor for you."

A week or so later, he continued, he went over to visit Taylor and that was the beginning of their almost two-year relationship. "It was kind of like the last, it feels like in my head, not hers," Farrell said, "I'm projecting ... But the last kind of romantic relationship I had. Which was never consummated."

"She wasn't much of a sleeper at night like I'm not," Farrell continued on explaining the nature of their relationship, "so at two o'clock in the morning I'd call her ... and the nurse would answer the phone. I'd say, 'Is she awake?' I'd be on the phone and I'd hear, 'Hello?' And I'd go 'how's it going' and we'd talk for a half an hour, an hour into the wee hours. Really cool. I just adored her, she was a spectacular, spectacular woman. I wanted to be [husband] number eight, but we ran out of road."

Vanity Fair notes that at Taylor's private funeral two years ago, Farrell was one of the few non-family members invited and he had even read a poem aloud in her honor.

Will Ferrell Sings With The Vienna Boys Choir And Shows Them How It's Done

Will Ferrell has been making a lot of his recent late-night appearances as his "Anchorman" character, Ron Burgundy. This time, though, he showed up as himself to "Late Show." Still, he managed to crack us up when he talked about traveling with the Vienna Boys Choir while promoting "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues."

To prove it, Ferrell brought the boys on stage with him for some Christmas carols. The Vienna Boys Choir has performed and recorded some of the most beautiful Christmas music ever heard, and their signature sound is the high voices of the young performers. When Ferrell joined the boys, he raised his own voice to match theirs ... and not just for the singing parts.

Ferrell stepped forward and addressed the audience directly -- talking in a ridiculous falsetto -- with sincere words about the holidays. Of course, his sincerity was lost in the gales of laughter.

Will Ferrell can next be seen in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," opening in theaters nationwide on Wednesday. "Late Show with David Letterman" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST on CBS.

Justin Bieber Shows Up At The Laugh Factory For Some Reason, Mentions 'B*tches' Because Why Not

Ok, in theory, this is a great idea. You're Justin Bieber and you've been having a rough PR year. What better way to show you, too, can laugh at yourself than to go up on stage at the Laugh Factory and let Chris D'Elia roast you? (Comedy Central, are you watching, have you picked your next Roastee, yet?)

Just a little pro-tip, though: When showing your human, I-can-take-a-joke side, don't refer to the "bitches" with whom you've had intimate relations. It conveys a lack of respect for women, and therefore renders your efforts useless.

Dermot Mulroney On 'August: Osage County' And Why He's Not Dylan McDermott

$
0
0
Dermot Mulroney doesn't exactly shy away from any claims that he steals a few scenes in "August: Osage County," Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning play that is now a major motion picture with Oscar hopes. Mulroney plays Steve Heidebrecht in the film, the fiancee of Karen Weston (Juliette Lewis), a woman who returns to her Oklahoma home for the funeral of her father. At first, Steve acts as broad comic relief in "August: Osage County," which puts his character at a stark contrast to the dark and barbed one-liners spouted by Karen's drug-addled mother (Meryl Streep) and her older sister (Julia Roberts). As Mulroney explains, Steve is supposed to steal scenes -- especially when Ricky Martin songs are involved -- until, well, he's not.

I met Mulroney at a hotel just off of New York City's Central Park. In person, Mulroney is an affable man who also kind of defines the word "quirky." Perhaps that's why it's surprising that so many people confuse him with Dylan McDermott, a man who seems the polar opposite of quirky -- a confusion that even resulted in a "SNL" sketch last season, which Mulroney discusses ahead.

You steal some scenes in this movie.
Well, that's how that character is designed. I'll take all the credit for it, but, really, it goes to Tracy Letts. Steve is meant to come in, break up that dinner with his phone call and his four wives -- that's what he's there for. To disrupt this disruption. And by doing so, you kind of accept him as part of this ship of fools -- and then he jumps ship and shows his real nature. He tricks you.

He did trick me. I liked him until that moment. And it doesn't help that you are playing him because you are a likable guy.
Right, so I help mislead.

Then he's a jerk.
Just another jerk.

He's the worst of all of them.
Exactly. That's how I read it, too. And that's that part. And that part was famous coming out of the play because of that, too.

Was there a particular trait that you wanted to bring?
I don't know. In some ways, I just felt so right for this part that I wasn't really looking to put a hat on a hat.

Did they come to you?
No, I auditioned. I auditioned several times.

Steve listens to "Livin' La Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin while he drives around town.
And that, I had no idea about until I saw it in Toronto.

Really?
That was put in in post-production. Of course! We're just driving the car. John Wells picked those songs -- or he and his music supervisor. But that added more to my character than anything I could think of, it was incredible.

You have to be a pretty confident fellow ...
Yeah, to drive up to a funeral playing "Livin' La Vida Loca," right? You've got to feel good about yourself, it's true? And that's what music can do to a film when it directly adds to a character ... the part I played is even better, for four bars of a song. And he's from Florida in the '90s, how could that not be on the radio. Can you picture Karen and Steve driving halfway across the country with Ricky Martin blasting the whole way?

I can.
That's what must have happened. And a big bag of weed. They couldn't fly to Oklahoma and carry that on a plane. That's why they had to drive -- that's what Juliette and I decided.

So, the "SNL" sketch you were on...
How did that happen?

I did not know the confusion people have between you and Dylan McDermott was such a big deal.
It's been around forever. No, I've encountered it.

Has anyone said to you, "You were great on 'The Practice'"?
No. Not that. Because people don't think we are each other, they just mess our names up. People don't confuse me for being the guy that did any of his jobs, they just mix up the letters in the names. It's like a collective dyslexia.

So you get a call one night, "We need you to be on 'SNL'"?
On Thursday night.

Were you in New York?
No! I'm in L.A. and I get a call Thursday at nine o'clock from an agent -- it's a bizarre time to get a call. So, I flew overnight Friday, arrived Saturday morning, rehearsed Saturday afternoon in front of the cameras live. And from what I understand, Dylan was asked, but couldn't go. They had designs to have us both on. But, it is a thing. And the thing that shocks me is that it's yet agin a new thing -- it's been through three full cycles in the last 25 years.

I would have thought the sketch would put it to rest.
It actually may have. The twist on the "SNL" thing is that they had three African Americans on the panel.

It was Jamie Foxx, Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah.
Exactly. It was Jamie's show. And you know what African American men do automatically that I love? They call me "D."

I think you just want to be loved.
Like anybody! Isn't that the root of all creativity?

On Dec. 18, 1998, "You've Got Mail" hit theaters, and the world fell in love with Nora Ephron's take on the modern world of online dating. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, who also teamed up for Ephron's "Sleepless in Seattle," star in "You've Got Mail" as, respectively, corporate mogul Joe Fox, the heir to the chain of Fox Books Superstores, and Kathleen Kelly, the owner of the charming Upper West Side book store, Shop Around the Corner.

Joe and Kathleen meet in the most '90s of ways: by connecting in an online chatroom for people over 30. They later realize they know one another in real life (or IRL, if you will), and must decide if they will look past their toxic business relationship to become a couple. Set on such an early Internet premise, "You've Got Mail" is the quintessential '90s rom-com.

Mario Lopez Reveals He's Afraid Of Failing For HuffPost's #nofilter

These days, our knowledge of celebrities too often originates with paparazzi images and snarky quotes by anonymous "insiders." After a while, it's easy to forget that stars are real people. That's why HuffPost Celebrity decided to launch its all-new #nofilter quick-fire question-and-answer series. Because how well do you know someone until they've shared their guiltiest pleasures?

Mario Lopez has been gracing our TV screens since the 1980s, making his big debut as A.C. Slater on the popular television sitcom "Saved by the Bell." Nowadays, not only does he host Fox's singing competition series, "The X Factor," but he also keeps entertainment news junkies up to speed on all the latest gossip as a co-anchor on "Extra."

Lopez, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday, chatted with HuffPost Celebrity about his career, family and more as he took our #nofilter challenge.

When's the last time you cried?
I think when I saw my daughter perform at her recital. I was crying of laughter because she was so good, and then I was proud, and then she was funny –- so all those things made me cry.

What's your guiltiest pleasure?
Popcorn and M&M’s.

What's the silliest thing you've ever lied about?
There’s too many. I don’t know!

If you could commit a crime and get away with it, what would it be?
Murder. No, I’m kidding! [laughs] Maybe speeding, because I like to go a little fast sometimes.

What's one thing you do when you're alone that you wouldn't do in front of someone else?
Pray.

What happens in your recurring dream?
I don’t have one. I dream, I just don’t always remember them.

What’s the working title of your autobiography?
Well, I happen to be working on a memoir right now and I’m trying to think of a title, so I should ask you if you could help me with one! You know, I turned 40 last month and I thought I’d kind of take a fun look back at what I’ve learned and the things I’m going through right now.

Is it okay to recline your seat on an airplane?
Of course it is! I mean, not during takeoff, but you should relax. Yeah, why wouldn’t it not be okay? Everyone should recline!

When do you feel most anxious?
When I’m hungry and I need to eat. I get “hangry” all the time.

What or who is overrated right now?
Winter. [laughs] It’s so cold.

Is a good friend hard to come by?
Not for me, I’m very blessed. Very blessed.

Describe one time you thought "This is harder than it looks."
Windsurfing was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. It’s hard to really get going.

Can you tell us a joke?
Not a clean one! I don’t know any I got to think of some later on ... I got to work on some!

What are you most afraid of?
Failing.

When do you feel most at peace?
At home with my family.

What's the most unusual thing you have in your purse/wallet?
There’s nothing really unusual in there. Couple of credit cards, my license, money.

What technology do you hope will be invented in the next 10 years?
A transporter.

What sense would you most be afraid to lose?
My sight.

Why?
Because I got to see what’s going on!

Mario Lopez has teamed up with Avocados From Mexico to celebrate the holidays by sharing his favorite recipes, tips and traditions. "Foods that we serve and prepare together are important to our family and right now we’re really into our fresh avocados from Mexico and incorporating them into our dishes, because they’re so versatile," Lopez tells HuffPost Celebrity. "The ones in Mexico are available all-year round, so I eat them with my eggs in the morning, on sandwiches, in soup, all the time. My kids love them too, and they're a healthy fat."

Early 'Nymphomaniac' Reviews Praise Lars Von Trier's Sex Drama

$
0
0
After months of suggestive posters, NSFW clips and Shia LaBeouf in the buff, the lucky elite have finally had Lars von Trier's sex drama "Nymphomaniac" thrusted upon them. Critics have begun screening the film, and their reactions are not hurting for passion.

Those who've seen the movie watched a four-hour "abridged and censored" version, which is less than the five-hour behemoth that audiences in von Trier's native Denmark will get when it bows on Christmas Day. Title cards announced "Vol. One" and "Vol. Two", which is how U.S. audiences will see the film. The first part arrives in theaters on March 21, and the second opens April 18, with each hitting on-demand services days prior.

The story of Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a sex addict who's taken in by an older man (Stellan Skarsgard) after being beaten and abandoned in an alley, "Nymphomaniac" uses eight chapters to chronicle the title character's complicated sexual backstory. Given von Trier's propensities for the visceral, as well as the movie's lengthy running time, it's natural that most critics are sizing up the graphic nature.

Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter notes that while there is plenty of nudity (including a "a rapid montage of penis close-ups"), the film's explicit nature is tamer than expected. Bear in mind, McCarthy's comments are reflective of the movie being touted as one of the most sexually graphic ever made (porn stars doubled for the actors in certain sex scenes). There are still interracial threesomes, S&M and an "extreme" scene involving Joe's vagina and a set of spoons.

Frank or not, McCarthy mostly enjoyed the film. It didn't surpass von Trier's "Melancholia," in his eyes, but "it still has moments of striking physicality."

The Guardian's Xan Brooks seemed more effusive in his praise, awarding the movie four out of five stars. "'Nymphomaniac' annoys me, repels me, and I think I might love it," Brooks wrote. He noted that, for a movie about sex, it's decidedly "unsexy."

IndieWire's Boyd Van Hoeij remarked on the movie similarly writing, "Somewhat shockingly given the subject matter, the most stimulating material in 'Nymphomaniac' isn't the explicit sex but how sexuality is discussed and understood." Van Hoeij assigned the movie a B-plus grade, praising von Trier's "effective restraint" but noting that his controversial Nazi remarks at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival have left this project feeling like the director is "simply trying to stir the pot."

Peter Debruge, chief international film critic at Variety, also is of the mind that "the only arousal von Trier intends is of the intellectual variety." But, sexual content aside, Debruge and his counterparts praise the movie's supporting performances, including those of Shia LaBeouf as the creepy guy who takes Joe's virginity, Jamie Bell as an S&M purveyor, Stacy Martin as a teenage Joe and Uma Thurman as one of Joe's lover's wives. Debruge calls Thurman "ferocious" -- the same word McCarthy used to describe her performance.

But it's remarks made by The Telegraph's Tim Robey, who assigned the movie four out of five stars, that most make us want to check out the complexities of "Nymphomaniac."

"The point is that you could watch these films for four hours, then spend 14 arguing about them -- about whether sex, for vor Trier, is an eternal human mystery, or a cosmic joke at our expense," Robey writes.

What do you think? Does "Nymphomaniac" pique your interests? Watch the NSFW trailer below, and use the comments section to chime in.

Rapper/singer Angel Haze went off on her label, Island/Republic Records, via Twitter on Wednesday morning. Apparently, executives for the record company told Haze that if she finished recording her debut studio album before the summer, they would release "Dirty Gold" this year. Haze received word from her label, however, that the album would not see light in 2013, and so she took matters into her own hands.

"So sorry to Island/Republic Records, but f--k you," Haze wrote on Twitter. "I got here doing this for my fans and if you guys don't feel the same, it won't stop me." True to those who have supported her and helped make her dreams a reality, Haze leaked "Dirty Gold" on her Soundcloud page for all to hear. (As of this posting, however, the record has been removed from the site.)

Read her awesome Twitter rampage below.

Time after time, we hear artists say how labels screwed them over in this way or that way, but it's extremely refreshing to see someone like Angel Haze, a new face in the industry, give action to her words. This post will be updated if "Dirty Gold" appears back online.

TV critics may want to revise their 2013 Best and Worst List (a lesson: you should never release it until after the year is officially over).

Yep, the TV Gods still had a major shockeroo to throw our way: the worst and most shocking soap firing just occurred. On Tuesday, "The Young And The Restless"s talented leading man Michael Muhney announced on Twitter he was voted off the soap island in his uber-popular role as Adam Newman. Immediately, stunned fans and press went into soaphylactic shock. The devastating news delivered such a crushing blow that "Y&R" began trending on Twitter for the first time. The Mensa member's last day of shooting is Thursday; he will last air on January 30, 2014. A CBS rep declined to comment.

The "Veronica Mars" scene-stealer came on to the daytime TV scene as an accidental soap star of sorts. He first debuted on the number-one soap opera in 2009, when he took over the legacy character from Chris Engen, an actor who walked away mid-contract due to objections over Adam's storyline and character direction. A consistent prime-time TV character actor, Muhney surprisingly fell in love with the soap opera genre. He also became a co-champion for the art form, even spearheading Daytime Emmy Awards reform a couple of years ago. For his efforts, Muhney was nominated as Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama series this past year by the Daytime Emmy Awards.

In his first exit interview, Huffington Post Canada TV exclusively spoke with the 38-year-old actor moments after he announced his departure on Twitter to find out what happened, how he found out about his imminent exit from the soap world, if the role will be recast, details on his final scenes, and if he'll consider doing soaps again.

HuffPost Canada TV: What the hell?! Are you as shocked as we are? What happened?
Michael Muhney: I was informed Monday night at work. I was told "We're going to be letting you go." Everyone knows I always have something to say. I'm a chatterbox, laugh all you want, but I was rendered speechless for about five minutes. I didn't utter a word. There was truly a moment when I thought I was having a very vivid, surreal dream and I couldn't wake up so I could tell people I was having an awful dream about "Y&R" letting me go. So, unless this is a really long nap I'm taking, it's not a dream and it's really happening.

I was told at almost the exact same time my aunt found out she had officially been diagnosed with breast cancer. Almost within the same hour. So, that has helped me with perspective, in terms of what's happening in the real world. We're just talking about one guy who lost a job. Hey, there's no business like show business. So I want to say, first and foremost, there are more important things people are dealing with in the world today.

Who told you? And what's the official reason for your departure?
[Executive Producer] Jill [Farren Phelps]. We had a private talk in her office. She's always been very kind to me. We have a good rapport. It was intimate ... the way it was handled. [Pauses] Part of me feels this is because I've always been outspoken, and sometimes I've been too outspoken. Sometimes I've walked around with a big backpack full of hubris. That is entirely on me. CBS, Sony, and Jill Phelps are not to blame for that. If I'm going to claim to be a grown man, I have to own that. But it could be financial or story. It was explained to me that CBS and Sony want to give Adam a break for 3-6 months and then they'll bring him back with a different actor. Maybe he does need a break. Adam has been on screen a lot. He's not being killed off.

It's no secret that you and your co-star Eric Braeden [Victor Newman] have had your differences. Was he involved in your firing?
I do know one thing for sure: I really look up to and respect my friend, [Emmy-winning "General Hospital" star] Maura West. She had the most dignified walk down The Green Mile that I've ever seen [when she was fired from "Y&R," too]. In her final days, when her character was dead woman walking, she held her head up high and was classy and professional right until the end. I plan on doing the same thing with everyone I've worked with on the show. I'll apologize for when my character bled into my real life at times and if I was intense a few times. But I'll let everyone know how blessed and honoured I was that I got to work with them all. I got to be an actor in a land where you can play dress-up and pretend with a collective group of other talented actors. I'm going to take Maura's lead. If there were disagreements in the past with Eric, for me, it has to be history.

"Y&R" fans are obviously bereft you're leaving and are threatening to stop watching.
I wish I had an answer for all the fans. Life happens when you're making other plans. "Y&R" is a TV staple and it's bigger than one individual actor. It will continue without me. The fan love and loyalty means so much to me, and the love and friendship of my co-workers. I feel like I'm leaving a very, very dear friend and mentor in Peter Bergman. Also, I'm leaving behind Sharon Case and Melissa Claire Egan, two phenomenal co-stars and friends.

I've done a lot of pilots and projects which never made it in my career, but being let go is a first for me with multiple children. Back when I wasn't a father, it was much easier to move from job to job. Ironically, my greatest acting performance is the one that will never be seen: and that is the strength I display in front of my kids when things get tough. [With trembling voice] I'm their leader --and they're going to have a great Christmas if I have anything to say about it. Yes, I was let go before Christmas, but I choose to look at it positively: My kids are off school for holiday break, so I will have lots of time to spend with them, I'm going to soak up their innocent love. That's my focus now. I realize I live in a world where my career, actions and income impact three little people and my wife. I have to be cognizant of that. I take a lot of pride in my acting and my skills that I have worked very hard to sharpen in the past 16 years, but I pride myself even more on being a father and taking care of my family. That's going to be tough to face.

In its 40th year, "Y&R" has lost four of its most popular superstars: you, Michelle Stafford, Jeanne Cooper -- who passed away in May -- and Billy Miller. As a fan and industry watcher, do you think "Y&R" can survive this mass exodus of its most talented and popular performers? While Billy and Michelle quit, Billy wanted to stay but couldn't agree on contract outs. Michelle told me she would have stayed as well if she still felt inspired by Phyllis.
"Y&R" experienced a lot of loss this year. Bless his heart, on his last day Hartley Sawyer [who has also been let go as Jack's son, Kyle] was more concerned about me when I told him I was leaving! His jaw dropped. We both sat in my dressing room and just talked. It's still hard to process. But, hey, I get to walk out of that building on Thursday with a great actor and friend Billy Miller. It's been an interesting journey. What I envy in guys like Hartley and Billy is that they're single and don't have kids, so anything is possible. But I know, while this is new for me, it's healthy and good to be knocked off your center. I've been thrown into many a deep pool in my life and you can either choose to swim or sink. So, I'm going to break out my best breaststroke and see where it takes me.

As we're talking now, "Y&R" is trending on Twitter.
Wow. I don't know what to say. It's powerful, what I'm feeling, but it's not all positive. It's a conflux of sadness, disappointment, heartbreak, humility, warmth, and a reality check. I'm saddened. I poured my heart, blood, sweat and tears into this show. They say, you don't know what you've got until you lose it, so maybe there's a bit of that, but I try to be a grateful guy most of the time.

Did you anticipate they were thinking of letting you go? Or was this a blind side, a la "Survivor" tribal council?
I saw it coming, and I didn't see it coming. I suspected it could happen, but I didn't think that it really would -- at least not now; maybe down the line. I worked four-and-a-half years on "Y&R." I've been able to enjoy a candle that burns at both ends and a spotlight that burns so bright that maybe it burns out a bit faster than others. I felt like my version of Adam might not last forever. I never called in sick. I never even arrived on time -- I was always early, sometimes hours early, because I wanted to be sharp with my dialogue. I even went into work the day after I snapped my collarbone in half and they worked it into the show! I always gave a 100 percent effort all the time. I believe in being professional at all times.

Some fans and critics were worried about your future on "Y&R" when Adam ran over and killed Delia, Billy and Chloe's daughter. Did that raise a red flag for you?
No. I just thought it was going to be a great story to tell. All I know is whatever load they gave me I tried to carry it with integrity. If a tiny little ant can carry 100 times its weight, I should be able to carry my weight. I'm proud of the stance I made on the show. Gosh ... I can't believe I'm doing an exit interview as I'm heading into the CBS studios right now. I just realized I'm going to pull into these gates only a couple more times. Yesterday, I filmed goodbye scenes to Chelsea, Jack and to Adam's son, Connor. I didn't know at that point I was gone. [Voice cracks] I hope I made some kind of impact.

Let's talk about your future: Would you do another soap? Or are you done?
Let's put it this way, I'll consider Broadway, TV, soaps and film. I see the world differently than I did five years ago: it's all acting. And that's what I love. Given the opportunity to play another amazing role and be paid so I can put food on the table for my kids, I'd do another soap. I'm in. I'll come in with my heart because that's the only way to do things. We're paid as actors to be vulnerable and wear our emotions on our sleeves, so we tend to be more dramatic than the norm. That's a part of my personality and I'll continue to be that way as long as professional.

Arrogantly, when I began on "Y&R," I thought I would take this role for a couple of years, make an impact and return back to prime time and film. But somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the process and the medium. When you become a champion for things that defend that medium and its integrity, you become invested. There are some people -- not all -- who have moved on from soaps in their careers and received huge fame, but they don't acknowledge soaps. If I never do another soap again, and I'm able to find lightning in a bottle this pilot season and find a special character like Adam and a job I'm passionate about, I'll always think fondly of the people involved and be proud of my soap career.

Also, I'm proud of the incredibly passionate fanbase that exists in soaps. Some look down on soap fans, but they're just as amazing as any other audience base out there. I'm not a martyr. I've made mistakes along the way, but even my missteps were all about forward momentum. Mike Tyson said, "Everyone has a plan til they get punched in the mouth." But like Victor Kiam said, "Even if you fall on your face, you're still moving forward." I feel like I've learned a lot about an industry I find fascinating. And one that I'm in love with, by the way. If you only have one life to live, if you can have growth in life, you did something right. And I'm always growing, as an actor and a person.

Finally, when you think of your journey as Adam Newman, what do you think of? Favourite Adam moment?
The very first episode I ever aired. Hearing "Nadia's Theme," I heard the great, booming voice of Peter Bergman say, "The role of Adam Newman will now be played by Michael Muhney." That probably tops it all. So began my fairy tale with the show .... and the rest from here is happily ever after.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — Beyonce's new album was so secret, one of its producers only knew of its release 90 minutes before it dropped.

Beyonce released her self-titled album in surprise form last week. Ryan Tedder produced the single "XO," and he learned about the release not long before it went public. "I knew 90 minutes before it dropped. Ninety minutes. And I said nothing because I love Beyonce and I don't want her to hate me," Tedder said in an interview Tuesday.

"I heard a rumor and then I didn't say anything. I told my wife, 'I think Beyonce's album is dropping in 90 minutes,' and then I knew that 'XO' was on the album," he said. "I knew it was a single. I didn't know if it was first or second. I didn't know anything, and then today I found out that it was the lead."

The OneRepublic frontman made the comments at the season finale of the NBC singing competition "The Voice," where his band performed.

In just three days, "Beyonce" sold more than 617,000 units on the U.S. iTunes Store, where it was released exclusively. The album also features collaborations with Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Miguel, Timbaland, Pharrell and Frank Ocean. Tedder previously produced Beyonce's Grammy-winning hit "Halo."

The 34-year-old Tedder, who has also produced for Adele and Maroon 5, said he's not surprised by the R&B star's success — especially after seeing her live show.

"Me and my whole band, who are just complete skeptics and like, you know, a bit snobby, we just sat there going ..." said Tedder, dropping his jaw. "Like somehow we have to step our game up and be more like Beyonce."
