Whatever Happened To Kerr Smith?

$

0
"Dawson's Creek" introduced some major stars into the world back in the late '90s, including Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson and Busy Philipps.

But whatever happened to Jack McPhee?!

Kerr Smith portrayed one of the first gay characters on primetime TV, starring as Jen Lindley's best friend on the hit teen drama. With his dark hair and light blue eyes, Smith captivated the "Dawson's Creek" audience and made McPhee one of the most beloved characters of all time.

But seriously, where is he NOW?

After "Dawson's Creek" ended in 2003, Smith, now 41, appeared in a few TV movies and series, including "Charmed," "Justice" and "CSI: NY." Most recently, he starred in the CW's "Life Unexpected," but the show was canceled after two seasons in 2011. Currently, Smith is set to appear in some smaller budget films.

This is precisely why we need a "Dawson's Creek" reunion ... so we can see Kerr Smith on the small, or big, screen again.

Here's what he looks like today ... yes, that's him:

Billy Ray Cyrus On 'Wrecking Ball' Video: 'It Wouldn't Have Mattered If Miley Wore Jeans And A Flannel Shirt'

Billy Ray Cyrus reacted to Miley's new and awfully naked music video for "Wrecking Ball" in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, brushing aside the controversial nudity and sledgehammer-licking in the Terry Richardson-directed clip by saying that "the song's a smash."

The country legend also claimed "it wouldn't have mattered if Miley would have worn jeans and a flannel shirt, a tux or a nun's habit," and that "her performance vocally on the tune reflects her root and sheer God-given talent.

Miley herself responded to the controversy she created by saying that there's more to the nudity-inflected visuals than meet the eye:

"I think the video is much more, if people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me," Cyrus said in an interview with New York's z100. "You can tell that I actually look more broken than even the song sounds. The song is a pop ballad. It's one of these songs that everyone is gonna to relate to, everyone's felt that feeling at some point. If people can take their minds off the obvious and go into their imagination a little bit and see kind of what the video really means and the way that it is so vulnerable."

"If you look in my eyes I look more sad than actually my voice sounds on the record," she said. "It was a lot harder to do the video than it was to even record the song. It was much more of an emotional experience."

After Miley raunched up MTV's Video Music Awards, Billy Ray offered similar support: "She's still my little girl and I'm still her dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change."

Here's Billy Ray's full comment, which will air during Entertainment Tonight's Wednesday show:

I'm a song man. A musician singer songwriter who loves all styles of music. But again...I come from the old school where it starts with an artist and a song ...colliding if you will ... in a moment where the song, the singer, the producer, the band and the listener become one. It wouldn't have mattered if Miley would have worn jeans and a flannel shirt ...a Tux ...or a nun's habit. The song's a smash ...and her performance vocally on the tune reflects her roots and sheer God given talent.

Robin Thicke And Paula Patton Have The Most 'Dysfunctional Marriage In Hollywood,' He Says

According to Robin Thicke, his marriage is "the greatest love of the century, and the most functional, dysfunctional marriage in Hollywood."

The "Blurred Lines" singer opened up to Star about his union with Paula Patton, whom he's known since he was 14. The two married in 2005 and have a son, Julian Fuego Thicke, 3.

However, the couple was recently under scrutiny after a photo surfaced of Thicke with socialite Lana Scolaro, who claimed she and the singer made out at the VMAs after-party at 1Oak. When asked about the scandal, Thicke quickly put the rumors to rest.

"My only comment about the so-called scandalous photo would be that my wife and I are perfectly in love and very happily married," he said.

Julieta Venegas Kicks Off U.S. Tour To Promote New Album

Mexican singer Julieta Venegas will kick off her 16-city U.S. tour on September 18 in Anaheim, Calif.

She is promoting her new album, “Los Momentos,” released early this year. Many of her songs are a combination of personal experiences as well as inspirations from poems and letters.

“Today for the first time I can see clearly; Something has cleaned my window; Today I can trust more in what I feel; Today I know; You always have to wait; What you have been wishing for will come; Today I truly love,” sings Venegas on her song “Hoy.”

“It’s an emotional song and its related to my daughter, Simona,” said Venegas during an interview with VOXXI. The singer became a mother three years ago but never revealed the father’s name, which resulted in numerous rumors and speculations. However, Venegas personal life is a quiet one. “I like to have dinner with friends and a good conversation, I am not into going out very much.”

The inspiration behind Julieta Venegas’ new album

Venegas was born in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1970. She studied music in both Mexico and the U.S. and plays the piano, violoncello and the accordion. As a teenager, she started her musical career with local rock bands, such as Tijuana No! Venegas is also a prolific composer, with a wide range of musical styles influenced by her upbringing in a border town.

“To grow up in the border means you get exposed to two different cultures,” said the singer. “While my family was a middle class, traditionalist, I also got a different perspective from the north. You absorb all you can… and still, I am Mexican,” she said with conviction.

The song “Vuelve” “came up as a result of a letter a friend of mine sent me, asking if it was safe to travel to Mexico… I wanted to let people know that we can’t let fear dominate us. Fear is another element in our lives, especially in Mexico,” Venegas said.

French-Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux and Café Tacvba’s lead singer Ruben Albarran collaborated with Venegas in “Vuelve.” The track has soft transitions adjusting to the style of each artist and creates a beautiful and simple yet sophisticated piece of music.

“Since I began to compose the song I thought about inviting Ana to join in. We are good friends and we collaborated before. And in this case I believe she could bring in her sensibility,” Venegas explained. Regarding Albarran, this was a first. “I am a fan of Café Tacvba and this is the first time we collaborated on a song. I wanted Ruben’s voice in it!”

Her “Los Momentos” song, which is the title of her new album, speaks to the lost moments in a relationship. “I wrote this song after reading Jorge Luis Borges’ poem “Lo Perdido,” which is not about a relationship, I added that myself and it has nothing to do with my personal life.”

The “Los Momentos” album has an acoustic and intimate tone, in which traditional instruments like the piano and guitar play are present throughout the album. While Venegas prepares to launch her U.S. Tour, she is also working on producing music for a play and for a children’s animated film.

Deadmau5 Trolls Flo Rida Over His 'Beamz By Flo' Laser Machine (TWITTER)

Deadmau5 poked some fun at rapper Flo Rida yesterday in a string of tweets after watching a two-minute commercial the rapper did for Beamz, a product enabling you to create your own music using laser light technology.

The product's official website contains the commercial which describes the product as "the hottest music technology to hit the market." The ad opens with Flo Rida asking "have you ever dreamed of being a star?" before more information is shown with a DJ moving his hands through different laser lights.

"Who wants to try my Beamz?" Flo Rida asks as different people try the technology which works with different platforms.

"So whether your fantasy is to be a rock hero, a DJ thrilling the crowd or you just want to fulfill your dreams of playing the music you love, you have to try my Beamz for yourself," Flo Rida says as the "try before you buy offer" which includes the product, an accompanying app "and over 20 chart-topping cover songs."

The list includes AC/DC, Pink, Rick James, Adele, Taylor Swift, Coldplay and of course Flo Rida. The 30-day risk-free guarantee ($19.95 cost for shipping and handling) spiel concludes the commercial. "With my Beamz, you just don't listen to music, you make it," Flo Rida says before he's shown leaving with fans on either side of him.

Needless to say, Deadmau5 had a lot of fun with this commercial, even attempting to contact Flo Rida through Twitter but realizing it was the wrong account.

Deadmau5 also later posted an Instagram Video of his own version of Beamz called Bandz. The photo showed somebody (most likely Deadmau5) flicking elastic bands wrapped around drawer handles before saying, "Yo, who wants to play with my Bandz?"

The musician eventually tweeted Beamz official Twitter account and the company replied:

Deadmau5 countered by asking for $7 million before adding he would provide sexual favors for the staff. The company has yet to reply with a counter offer.

Laura Dern and Ben Harper are officially divorced, according to reports from TMZ.

Dern, best known for her roles in "Jurassic Park" and "Enlightened," has been married to Harper since 2005, and the pair have two children together.

Harper allegedly shocked Dern when he originally filed for divorce in 2010. The pair briefly reconciled before Dern filed a response to Harper's divorce papers in 2012.

According to TMZ, the terms of the settlement are confidential.

Harper and Dern met in 2000, while he was separated from first wife Joanna Harper, with whom he has two children. The two were divorced in 2001. Dern has never been married before, but she was previously engaged to Billy Bob Thornton when he reportedly shocked her and married Angelina Jolie while Dern was out of town.

"I left our home to work on a movie, and while I was away my boyfriend got married," she said at the time.

"The X Factor" is back for Season 3 (two-night premiere Wed., Sept. 11 and Thurs., Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox), and new judge Kelly Rowland says "the talent this season is nothing short of amazing."

Watch our interview with Rowland, above, to hear more about the talent, including a female contestant with "one of the most amazing voices," up there with Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Gladys Knight. That's extremely high praise! But it's not just the ladies who impress. "We've got gems in each category," Rowland insists.

As for her particular judging style, Rowland says she brings honesty to the table, but is still there to have fun. "I'm very honest, I'm constructive, and firm ... I think it's important to be constructive when it comes to criticism with people ... and have a good time!"

And then there's Simon Cowell. What's it like judging alongside her new boss? "There are no words for Simon," Rowland says. "All three of us actually put Simon in his place. I think sometimes he's probably thinking to himself, 'What was I thinking with three women up here?' But I think it was a great decision."

"The X Factor" two-night premiere airs Wed., Sept. 11 and Thurs., Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

Keanu Reeves On 'Bill & Ted 3': 'There's Darkness Out There That's Keeping It From Happening'

Not excellent: In an interview with MTV, Keanu Reeves revealed that plans for "Bill and Ted 3" have hit a rough patch.

"It's a long story," Reeves told MTV's Josh Horowitz at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. "There's lots of subterfuge and conspiracy theories. There's a whole thing [...] I might have to do one of those independent press, conspiracy, other-name kind of [statements] explaining why it hasn't happened yet, because it's pretty dark out there."

Continued Reeves: "There's darkness out there that's keeping it from happening. It's not winning right now. It's that part of the story where it's looking grim. It's the dark period!"

That wasn't always the case. Back in August, Reeves said that he was waiting to see another draft of the script, which original writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson are putting together. Last year, meanwhile, he told GQ about a potential "Bill and Ted 3" plot.

"One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world," Reeves said. "And they haven't done it. So everybody is kind of like: 'Where is the song?' The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock. And we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future 'us' refuses to tell us, and another future 'us' blames us for their lives because we didn't write the song, so they're living this terrible life. In one version we're in jail; in another we're at some kind of highway motel and they hate us."

Watch Reeves' full chat with Horowitz, which includes an awkward moment where the journalist switches Reeves' "Bill and Ted" character with that of co-star Alex Winter, in the video above.

Tyra Banks' Model Photos Show Her Amazing Ability To Transform

We've seen Tyra Banks teach her "Top Model" protégées the art of transformation for 20 cycles now, so it's nice to see the model practice what she preaches... and then some.

When Banks released three images of her uncanny supermodel impersonations on Saturday, we were stunned. Little did we know, she had 12 more up her sleeve, all part of a photography exhibition entitled "15" (named for the 15 models she channels). Styled by Bank's stylist, Ty-Ron Mayes, the Udo Spreitzenbarth-lensed shots are "un-retouched" and each more stupefying than the last -- Tyra's spot-on portrayals are borderline creepy.

Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Lauren Hutton, Jerry Hall, Iman, Kate Moss, Twiggy, Brooke Shields, Claudia Schiffer, Carmen Dell’Orefice and Grace Jones all made the list of iconic supermodels imitated in the exhibition. But modern fashion darlings like Kate Upton, Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne were also deemed worthy of a Banks rendering. Oh, and of course she threw in a nod to her own early modeling days.

You can catch Banks' supermodel homage from now until November 9th at Jack's Studios -- or you can just check out all 15 photos below. Are these flattering or a little eerie?

Colin Kaepernick And Russell Wilson 'Bet' Eyebrows On Game In 'Madden' Commercial

Last we checked, betting on your own game is illegal. Unless, of course, you're betting your eyebrow.

In a new commercial for EA Sports' "Madden 25," San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson do just that.

The commercial features the pair sitting in the 49ers locker room playing Madden 25.

"Big game on Saturday," says Kaepernick.

"You know what we should do? Whoever loses has to shave an eyebrow," suggests Wilson. The pair shakes.

"Alright," says Kaepernick. "Hope you don't like your eyebrow."

So will one NFL star be sporting a solo brow come Sunday night?

Wilson appeared on Seattle sports radio show 950 KJR-AM on Tuesday evening and discussed the bet.

"It was more of just a friendly, just joking around type deal. It's not real serious," he said. "We'll probably do something digital, something like that."

Well, in any event, here's to Sunday.

Kim Raver In Talks To Join '24: Live Another Day' For A Jack And Audrey Reunion

Kim Raver is in talks to return to "24" for the revival series "Live Another Day," HuffPost TV has confirmed.

As first reported by TVLine, Raver is nearing a deal to reprise her role as Audrey Raines, the former love interest of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in the 12-episode event series, which is scheduled to premiere in May 2014.

Raver first joined "24" in Season 4 and remained a regular through Season 5, before appearing in a recurring capacity in Season 6, in which her character was kidnapped and tortured by the villainous Cheng Zhi and his men. Although she was seen in a catatonic state, executive producer Howard Gordon later reassured fans, "Audrey is so not dead. She’s not even in a coma. In my opinion, she is at the very worst in a psychiatric facility, but she may also be married to a contractor in Virginia who has a child."

If Raver's deal is finalized, she'll join fellow "24" alums Sutherland and Mary Lynn Rajskub in the new season. Behind the scenes, executive producer Jon Cassar is reteaming with Gordon, who will be showrunning "Live Another Day."

With 12 episodes instead of the standard 24, the show will look a little different when it returns, which Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly expressed his enthusiasm for: "They always had this idea of someday doing a feature film. I think they all agreed that '24' compressed into two hours is not '24.' ... What they'll be able to do is go in chronological order of the day, but skip hours. Howard is really energized over it, and so are we."

'Breaking Bad' Spinoffs We Will Never See (Unless We're Lucky)

$

0
AMC announced today that it's moving forward with "Better Call Saul," a "Breaking Bad" prequel series that will star Bob Odenkirk as shady lawyer Saul Goodman.

This may be good news: Odenkirk is an undeniably talented actor and Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, the creator of "Breaking Bad" and one of its writers, respectively, have done a fine job of filling out the world of would-be kingpin Walter White over the past five seasons.

Still, some fans are a little nervous, given that "Better Call Saul" will have a very tough act to follow. It's likely that the new show will have a very different tone and feel, in order to differentiate it from the story of Heisenberg and Jesse, but we probably won't know details about the one-hour program until after the "Breaking Bad" series finale on Sept. 29.

There's one other reason to feel a tiny bit sad about the otherwise exciting news: There's a whole range of "Breaking Bad" spinoffs and prequels we'll never see now.

Here is a baker's dozen of the prequel and spinoff ideas we've been pondering. Feel free to share your favorite sequel/prequel/spinoff ideas in comments.

Suge Knight Arrested After Traffic Stop In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — Former hip hop mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has been arrested on an outstanding warrant after being pulled over for a traffic violation in Los Angeles.

Police Officer Sara Faden says the founder of Death Row Records was stopped shortly after midnight Wednesday near Beverly Hills. She declined to say what the alleged traffic violation was. Officers determined Knight was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant and police took him into custody. Records show he was booked into county jail and released several hours later on $20,000 bail.

A warrant was issued for Knight's arrest in February after he skipped a court appearance for driving without a license.

Death Row Records helped make stars of rappers such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

Knight filed for bankruptcy in 2006.

January Jones, Liam Hemsworth Sexting? Actor's Rep Quashes Rumors

A representative for Liam Hemsworth has quashed a recent report claiming the "Hunger Games" star has been sexting January Jones.

Us Weekly claimed in a story titled "Liam's Other Woman: Behind fiancee Miley Cyrus' back, Hemsworth woos January Jones" that the actor "fired off a graphic, sexual text message" to Jones that supposedly said "I want to [expletive] you," per Gossip Cop.

The story went on to state that he has been secretly reaching out to the "Mad Men" star, who has purportedly been helping him deal with his fiancee's very public transition from "Disney princess" to "wild child."

Jones' rep denied the claim to the mag, according to Gossip Cop, and now the 23-year-old actor's rep is speaking out, too.

"The story of Liam Hemsworth and January Jones is entirely fabricated by US Weekly," the actor's rep told E! News. "There is no truth whatsoever to this tabloid fiction."

Rumors about Hemsworth and Jones surfaced back in February when Star magazine reported he and the 35-year-old got "hot and heavy" at a pre-Oscars party at the Chateau Marmont hotel.

Although reps have dashed the most recent claims, Hemsworth's relationship with Cyrus remains in question. Last week, Us Weekly reported he wants "a clean break" from the "Wrecking Ball" singer, whom he proposed to in 2012.

In August, RadarOnline.com reported he was "mortified" by her raunchy MTV Video Music Awards performance with Robin Thicke.

"Her VMA performance absolutely mortified him and he couldn't be more embarrassed. He doesn't really see anything sexy about what she did on stage," a source told the website. "It's not just Liam that Miley is pushing away… His entire team is urging him to part ways with her because she's nothing but negative for his reputation and career. Liam is a serious actor with a growing career, while Miley has just turned into a joke."

'Big Brother' Renewed For Season 16 By CBS

"Big Brother's" most controversial season ever is coming to an end, and CBS is giving it another go.

On Thursday, the network renewed the reality series for Season 16, set to air Summer 2014.

Season 15 of "Big Brother" has been up 11% in the ratings this summer, averaging 7.29 million viewers per episode, with 2.6 million in the coveted 18-49 demo.

The ratings jump could have something to do with the controversy surrounding the show due to the racist, homophobic and other offensive remarks made by Houseguests Aaryn Gries, Amanda Zuckerman and more.

Additionally, CBS announced that a special 90-minute finale of the current "Big Brother" season will air on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

"Big Brother" airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET, Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET and Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Here's Fiona Apple's cover of "Pure Imagination" from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." The singer produced the track in conjunction with Chipotle, for a new ad campaign about the horrors of "processed food." The Chipotle website explains the video:

In a dystopian fantasy world, all food production is controlled by fictional industrial giant Crow Foods. Scarecrows have been displaced from their traditional role of protecting food, and are now servants to the crows and their evil plans to dominate the food system. Dreaming of something better, a lone scarecrow sets out to provide an alternative to the unsustainable processed food from the factory.

Apple is no stranger to awesome covers -- she previously produced her own take on the Beatles' classic "Across the Universe" for the film "Pleasantville."
