Will Lea Michele's Rachel Land Her 'Funny Girl' Dream Role In 'Glee' Season 5? (PHOTO)

Last season of "Glee" ended with Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) attending a callback audition for the role of Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival of "Funny Girl," but viewers were left wondering whether the NYADA starlet actually got the gig. While the show will undoubtedly answer that lingering question when it returns for Season 5, Michele and creator Ryan Murphy may have offered us a hint by way of a photo Murphy tweeted on location in New York: lea michele glee Michele is certainly looking comfortable and color-coordinated with the fictional show's marquee in the photo, and Rachel has proven her "Funny Girl" fandom numerous times over the course of the series, having nailed "Don't Rain on My Parade" with great aplomb in Season 2. And, in a case of life imitating art, Broadway producer Bob Boyett named Michele as one of his top picks for the proposed real-life revival of "Funny Girl" back in 2010, although the project has since stalled (Lauren Ambrose was set to star). "I think Lea is wonderful, she's great, and she would certainly be on anybody's list," he said at the time, adding of her "Glee" role, "She’s also got a pretty good gig going now." In Season 5, "Glee" fans can also look forward to guest roles from Demi Lovato as a new friend of Rachel and Santana's (Naya Rivera) -- as well as a potential love interest for Santana -- and Adam Lambert, who will reportedly play a nemesis for Kurt (Chris Colfer). Do you think Rachel will score the "Funny Girl" role? "Glee" Season 5 premieres on Thursday, September 26 at 9 p.m. ET right after "The X Factor," which debuts on Wednesday, September 11 at 8 p.m. ET.

Matt Davis, star of "The Vampire Diaries," will join "CSI" for Season 14, according to TVLine. Davis, who also starred in The CW's recently-canceled "Cult," will play "a smart, athletic and competitive son of a decorated fireman. While on the surface outgoing, he is deep down a bit of a loner, with the soul of a poet and the mind of a mathematician." The recurring role is reportedly kicking off in late October. "CSI" might be in need of some fresh blood for the upcoming season, following the news that longtime star George Eads will be taking a leave of absence for several episodes following a verbal fight with a writer on set. Are you looking forward to seeing Davis on "CSI"? "CSI" Season 14 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS and the 300th episode with Helgenberger airs Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

'23' Sees Miley Cyrus Rapping Alongside Her Heroes

Miley Cyrus appears on "23," a new track by Mike WiLL Made It that also features Juicy J (another Cyrus favorite) and Wiz Khalifa. The song is an ode of sorts to Michael Jordan, who wore No. 23 for the duration pre-first-retirement career, and Miley sets it off with a quick intro: "I'm in the club high off purp with some shades on / Tatted up, miniskirt and my J's on." (For the uninitiated: "J's" refer to the many iterations of Jordans, Nike's holy grail of sneakers.) Other things Miley says she does while in the club: stand on couches ("like it's my house), drink out of the bottle, act like she "has no respect." During the song's bridge, Cyrus actually pulls off a somewhat savvy reference, cooing, "I'm naughty by nature, I'm hip-hop hooray" -- a reference to the 1993 song "Hip-Hop Hooray" by Naughty by Nature. The song debuts on the same day as Cyrus' new video for "Wrecking Ball," in which she strips naked and cries. Take a listen to "23" below.

Fall TV 2013 Shows That Seem Good ... But Aren't

The networks are banking on audiences tuning into their new Fall TV shows. For the most part, the freshman batch is impressive. There's Hostages, The Blacklist, Trophy Wife, The Michael J. Fox Show and The Goldbergs, just to name a few that are definite much-watches. Then there are also some series whose promos are far better than the actual half-hour or hours themselves. I'm here to tell you about the five shows whose packaging is far prettier than what's inside (a.k.a. don't waste your time). The Crazy Ones (Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS and City) The ads that boast about Robin Williams' return to television and how the stars have aligned in the perfect cast are easy to buy into. But like Cher Horowitz from Clueless would say, "It's a full-on Monet. From far away, it's OK but up close, it's a big old mess." One would think Williams, Sarah Michelle Gellar, James Wolk, Hamish Linklater and Amanda Setton would be a fabulous combination but it just doesn't jibe. They're all strong comedians, but completely different styles (Williams is manic; Gellar's specialty is snark, as is Linklater's; Setton pulls off sassy while Wolk is unproven in the funny department). The problem is, I didn't laugh once. I know you probably won't heed my warning and want to see it for yourself, and I get it. It's Robin freakin' Williams! But I promise, I won't say "I told you so" when you're watching it and shaking your head at how brutally unfunny it is. Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. on City and Fox) As far as I'm concerned, Andre Braugher can do no wrong. And he still doesn't, really. He's always the best thing about any series he takes part in and it's no different here. But Braughter's talents are wasted on this show (though, in the long run, he might help make it more well-rounded -- eventually). Perhaps it's because I'm only used to Andy Samberg in small doses, or I simply don't get him, but I couldn't be more annoyed. I don't know if the average viewer will buy into the former SNL star's ridiculously over-the-top behaviour but if he does learn to dial it down, Brooklyn Nine-Nine might have some hope. Granted, it's tough to make a decent cop comedy (see: The Good Guys, which started hilariously but became the same thing, week after week), but the producers and writers need to decide whether it wants to be a slapstick laffer or one with some heart. It can't be both. Sean Saves the World (Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on Global and Thursday, Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC) And here I thought Megan Mullally was the only Will & Grace star who couldn't shed her former persona (honestly, could she be Karen Walker in everything she's been in since the comedy went off the air in 2006?). Here, Sean Hayes is simply playing a slightly less flamboyant, slightly more mature Jack McFarland, and if that were the case here, say a W & G spinoff seven years later, it might have been OK. But on Sean, he only seems a lot less funny, and a lot more boring. It could be improved with the recasting of Megan Hilty, who showed great chemistry with Hayes when he guest-starred on Smash (though I do enjoy Lindsay Sloane), but I don't think it'll be enough to save this show. Ironside (Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC and Global) I realllllly wanted to like this one only because Blair Underwood is so great and I, unlike many, many others, love procedurals and can't get enough of them. But, man alive, was it ever boring! The flashbacks were OK, the story itself wasn't awful, and the premise seems intriguing enough. But it was Just. So. Slow. This is definitely a case where the previews are much more entertaining than the actual hour. Mom (Monday, Sept. 23 at 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS and City) Anna Faris and Allison Janney, two fabulous comedic actresses. Combine that with Chuck Lorre (whose brand of comedy, Big Bang Theory aside, I don't particularly enjoy, but I get why and how he has a fan base) and it seems like a guaranteed success. Not so much. Mom is forced. Very forced via the dialogue, the delivery and the laugh track shoved down our throats. CBS pushed the wonderful Mike & Molly to midseason so it could launch Mom, but hopefully Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell will be back earlier than expected. Next week, I'll offer up the shows you shouldn't miss this fall. Check back then!

Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Opens Up About Struggle With Drug Addiction

NEW YORK -- Former "Jersey Shore" cast member Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino realized he had an addiction problem on a trip to Australia in February 2012. He ran out of a prescription to treat an injury suffered during a 2010 stint on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." "All I had to do was get dressed for a family function and I couldn't do that," Sorrentino said Monday in an interview with The Associated Press. "The shirt was laid out, the belt, the pants, everything. The shower was on. I couldn't even get out of bed," he said. Then he thought, "If I can't do that how am I going to continue?" There were rumors at the time that he was battling an addiction to drugs or alcohol but Sorrentino maintains that wasn't the case and says "those rumors were definitely false. I didn't mix anything." Soon after he checked into rehab where doctors prescribed him with a medication to treat opiod addiction. Sorrentino still takes it daily and says that, combined with counseling, is what works best for him. The 32-year-old is now a paid spokesman for Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the company that makes the medication he's taking. He's also helped launch a program called Reset Reality, to spread knowledge and understanding of opiod prescription painkiller addictions. The road to figuring out he had a problem wasn't so easy. Looking back, there were people, like his family, who recognized before he did that something wasn't right. For one, he stopped working out as much which was out of character. Also, he recalls "People would say, `Mike's not the same Mike we've seen before.'" He would respond, "I don't know what they're talking about" or chalk it up to someone not liking him or the show, but now says, "I was suffering a disease." After completing rehab, Sorrentino still had one more season to film of "Jersey Shore." "A little part of me was like, `How am I gonna get through this?' but if you watched I didn't have one drink." The show aired its final episode last December. Since then Sorrentino has "gotten back to who Michael is." The focus is on fitness, family, cooking and he says he also has a girlfriend. He tries to look at life in 24 hour increments and his goal is to be "the best person I can be for those 24 hours." Sorrentino also has plans to return to showbiz and hopes to have career announcements soon, but says staying healthy is his main focus and he's proud of that. "The roller coaster of fame and fortune is definitely a ride in itself but to get to recovery is something special. ...There is hope out there and you can get help." ___ Online: ___ Alicia Rancilio covers entertainment for The Associated Press. Kris Humphries is ready to get rid of one of the last reminders of his brief marriage to Kim Kardashian.

The NBA star is apparently selling his ex's 16.21 carat diamond engagement ring at an auction at Christie's Jewels in New York City on Oct. 15. Although the ring is not explicitly listed as belonging to Humphries, it matches the dimensions of Kardashian's engagement ring and is made by the same jeweler. Christie's Jewels lists it as "the property of a gentleman."

According to The Daily Mail, Kardashian fought to keep the ring in their divorce but the jewel was awarded to Humphries. Kardashian and Humphries were married for just 72 days before the reality star filed for divorce in October 2011. Their divorce was finalized in April 2013.

Humphries certainly isn't the first celebrity to auction off a wedding ring. Click through the slideshow below to see what other stars did with their rings after their splits, including a few who went the auction route as well.

Drew Barrymore Drops Asking Price On Santa Barbara Mansion (PHOTOS)

Drew Barrymore's sprawling estate in the Montecito neighborhood of Santa Barbara, Calif., which she listed in May, has taken a little hit when it comes to the asking price.

To get things moving, Barrymore's real estate team shaved $600,000 off the initial asking price of $7.5 million (eight percent of the asking price) last week, bringing the new price down to $6.9 million.

Real estate blog Trulia first reported the reduction.

The actress bought the home in 2010 for $5.7 million, according to public records. She re-decorated it to suit her "quirky nature" (and growing family), and it was also the site of her low-key yet lavish wedding to art consultant Will Kopelman in June 2012. The big day's guests included Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz, reports People magazine, and the festivities were located in the "backyard" of Barrymore's two-acre property.

Speaking of the property itself, the two-story home has six bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms and lots of parking. The grounds also contain a separate two-story guest house and loads of rose bushes, flowering trees and fruit trees, according to the official listing.

Megawatt stars like Oprah Winfrey, George Lucas and Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi all maintain properties in the easygoing Santa Barbara area. While it's just 90 minutes or so away from Los Angeles (on a good traffic day), there aren't any paparazzi -- and the locals aren't fazed by celebrity, notes the Hollywood Reporter.

Jimi Hendrix's Ex-Girlfriend Kathy Etchingham Slams Hendrix Biopic 'All Is By My Side'

Outkast's Andre 3000 stars as the late famed guitarist Jimi Hendrix in the upcoming biopic "All Is By My Side." Andre's performance in the film has been praised by critics, but one person who is less than happy with the film is Hendrix's ex-girlfriend, Kathy Etchingham.

Etchingham, who dated Hendrix in the '60s, spoke to the UK's Sunday Express about the film, Hendrix's portrayal in it, and her own portrayal by actress Hayley Atwell.

"Andre and Hayley Atwell are much older than Jimi and I were and it shows," Etchingham told the publication, adding about the film's retro costumes, "It's got Austin Powers written all over it. I would not be seen dead in anything like that."

She went on to criticize those behind the film for failing to take her input into account. "I wrote them an email when I first heard about it saying if you want any help don't hesitate to contact me," she said. "They didn't reply."

Hendrix, who died in 1970 at the age of 27, is shown in the film struggling with his relationships and growing in his career. Led by director John Ridley, "All Is By My Side" also stars Imogen Poots, Burn Gorman, and Ruth Negga, among others.

"A lot of people will go and see it who have never read any of the biographies and they will think it's gospel truth," Etchingham warned. "I don't want it to fundamentally change history."

Not only does she go on what seem to be the most perfect vacations, but Beyonce also has the most perfect wardrobe to wear during those trips.

Beyonce shared a bikini'd photo on her Instagram account Tuesday. In the pic, the superstar singer can be see hanging off a boat, dressed in a retro green two-piece. Behind her is a picturesque backdrop of jagged cliffs and dark blue waves.

The moment made for a stunning snapshot.

Apparently, the photo was taken while Beyonce was on vacation (and celebrating her 32nd birthday) with husband Jay Z and baby Blue in Europe, E! News notes. The family sailed from Spain to Italy aboard the triple-decker Galactica Star luxury yacht. The beauty posted an array of photos from the trip to her Beyonce I Am Tumblr, showing their delicious meals, fun day trips and Jay's cigars.

The "Love On Top" singer is currently in South America for her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. She will be there through September and then will head to Australia in October. On Nov. 9, she will wrap up Down Under and head back to North America.

Michelle Monaghan has been cast as the final female lead in Ryan Murphy's HBO pilot "Open," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Monaghan will play Grace, a gynecologist whose marriage and sexuality comes into question after a lesbian encounter with yoga instructor Windsor (Anna Torv). Scott Speedman will play Grace's husband, Jonathan, a sports marketing executive, while Jennifer Jason Leigh will play Windsor's long-term partner Holly, an actress intensely committed to her career. Wes Bentley also stars as Evan, "a handsome blowhard who loves espousing his theories on human sexuality."

The "Open" pilot is due to begin filming in early 2014, from a script written by Murphy and Lauren Gussis. Monaghan, whose big screen work has included "Source Code," "Mission Impossible III" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," is appearing in another HBO project, "True Detective," where she'll play the female lead opposite Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the eight-episode limited series.

"Open," which is described as "a multicharacter exploration of the complex, ever evolving landscape of sexuality, monogamy and intimacy in relationships," looks set to cover similar ground to that of Showtime's relationship drama pilot, "The Affair," which stars Torv's "Fringe" co-star Joshua Jackson alongside Maura Tierney, Dominic West and Ruth Wilson. According to Showtime, "The Affair" is an intense and intimate exploration of two marriages and an affair that disrupts them –- with all of the complex consequences that result.

Statistics Prove People Don't Find Miley Cyrus Appealing, Aspirational Or Trustworty

$
0
0
We would say "sit down," but you're probably not going to be shocked all that much: The Disney-darling-turned-twerking-diva Miley Cyrus that has become so controversial this past year is not doing so well in the polls.

If you were around for the backlash that followed her tongue-filled, nearly-nude, foam-fingered VMA performance, we bet you're hardly surprised. Twitter exploded with criticism and disapproval, but even prior, people loved to hate on her short, blunt haircut and her "is it still on?!" engagement to Liam Hemsworth.

Quantifiably, Miley Cyrus' public image has changed even more dramatically than her appearance over the past three years.

Celebrity DBI, an independent index that quantifies and qualifies consumer perceptions of 3,082 celebrities (actors, musicians, models, athletes and politicians), measured Miley’s impact when it comes to seven attributes: appeal, aspiration, breakthrough, endorsement, influence, trend-setter and trust.

In December 2010, she was in the top 3 percent in influence and trend-setter and top 23 percent for endorsement. As of August 2013, Miley ranks in the bottom 1 percent for appeal, aspiration, breakthrough, endorsement and trust. She is also in the bottom 20 percent for influence and trend-setter. That’s a hard and significant fall for under three years.

There are more statistics directed towards more specific demographics:

  • For men and women over 55 -- only 1 percent report liking her a lot.

  • In the 13-17 age group, 35 percent say they dislike her a lot.

  • In the 18-24 age group, a whopping 43 percent dislike her a lot.

The public has clearly responded to Miley's erratic and unexpected behavior, particularly the younger generation who grew up with her as Hannah Montana. It seems her target teen girl audience is either no longer identifying with her behavior, or is not finding it appealing or aspirational.

The older demographic clearly no longer considers her a positive role model for today’s youth, as previously demonstrated when Miley and Chris Brown were named the worst celebrity role models by over 2,400 parents back in June.

In August, Time featured an article written by a concerned mother to her daughter, saying "this is what happens when you constantly hear everything you do is awesome. This is what happens when people fawn over your every Tweet and Instagram photo. This is what happens when no responsible adult has ever said the word 'no,' made you change your clothes before leaving the house, or never spanked your butt for deliberate defiance."

Though the extreme distaste for Miley's demeanor is unsurprising, her fall from tween "it girl" to criticized young adult is quite notable. With the way her career's path has changed direction, it seems like she would have to try pretty hard to be even less favorable in the public's eye. Though it seems like rock bottom, one thing we know about Miley Cyrus is that she never has trouble finding a new way to surprise us. For the sake of her fans, we'll hope there are no more of these pigtailed, grill-filled or sledge-hammer-licking surprises.

Clint Eastwood's Wife Dina Eastwood Files For Legal Separation In California

LOS ANGELES, Sept 10 (Reuters) - The wife of actor-director Clint Eastwood has filed for legal separation after 17 years of marriage, her attorney said.
Attorney C. Michael McClure said he filed the petition on Monday on behalf of Dina Eastwood in Monterey County Superior Court in Northern California.
McClure declined to comment about why Dina Eastwood, 48, a former television journalist, had filed for separation or if she would eventually seek a divorce. The Eastwoods married in 1996.
A representative for Clint Eastwood, 83, was not immediately available for comment.
Eastwood rose to fame a gunslinger in "spaghetti Westerns" such as "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" in the 1960s and as tough cop in the 1970s "Dirty Harry" movies.
He won best director and best picture Oscars for the 1992 Western "Unforgiven" and the 2004 boxing drama "Million Dollar Baby." His most recent movie was 2012's "Trouble With the Curve."
Eastwood was married to Maggie Johnson for more than 30 years and had a long-term relationship with actress Sondra Locke during the 1970s and 1980s. (Reporting by Eric Kelsey; Editing by Piya Sinha-Roy and Bill Trott)

Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz Marriage Secret Revealed

"Skyfall" actor Daniel Craig and his wife of two years, actress Rachel Weisz, understand the importance of unplugging -- especially in the bedroom.

In an interview with The Telegraph published Monday, Craig said, “There’s nothing technological allowed in the bedroom. If the iPad goes to bed, I mean, unless you’re watching porn on the internet, it’s a killer. We have a ban on it.”

And from the looks of it, the technology ban seems to be doing wonders for their marriage. The James Bond actor also said he's "far happier than [he's] been for many years."

“I think finding the right person and being with the right person is probably the answer to most things," he added.

Recently, Craig dismissed the notion that he and Weisz are a "power couple" in an interview with The New York Times.

“Someone called us a power couple the other day. I was like, what the” — he drops in an expletive — “does that mean?" he said. "We just keep ourselves to ourselves.”

Craig and Weisz tied the knot in a secret ceremony in June 2011. In October, the notoriously private couple will co-star in a Broadway revival of Harold Pinter’s play "Betrayal."

'Pirates 5' Release Date Shifted To 2016

One day after moving the release of "Ant-Man" to July 31, 2015, Walt Disney Studios has shifted "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" from July 10, 2015 to an unspecified date in 2016. The studio made the announcement via press release on Tuesday, but THR had more on the move:

Script issues are said to be the cause of the delay, though the move comes in the aftermath of 'The Lone Ranger's' failure at the box office this summer.

That's not the official line from Disney, as the studio insiders told Deadline.com that the film's script was still being worked on and that the move was not cause for alarm. Prior to the "Pirates 5" shift, it was speculated that Disney could move "Star Wars: Episode VII" out of summer 2015 because of an already overcrowded calendar that also includes "Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron," Pixar's "Inside Out" and Marvel's "Ant-Man." All three of those films will arrive in theaters between May and July. (Whether "Star Wars" eventually moves to December of that year is still unconfirmed.)

Despite the date change, Johnny Depp is still locked in to return to the franchise for a fifth time.

Kim Kardashian Is Normal Like Me

Stop the presses! The news is out, according to former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are "Are so normal." Well duh Carine, who ever doubted it?

I have always felt a certain kinship with the big-butted beauty, (Kim), as we share many of the same life experiences. For starters, she spent nine months in her mother's womb, as did I. She breathes in oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide just like I do! Her mother has -- oops, make that HAD a talk show -- and, oh wait, I don't think my mom did have a talk show now that I think about it. But, we both have moms, and that's what counts.

Check this out, we have both been married and divorced. We both had fairy tale weddings; hers took place at a sprawling estate in California, and mine at the Unitarian Church across the street from Krogers on Brownsboro Road in Louisville, Kentucky. She had a guest list of 400, I had a guest list of 15 -- including the photographer, who insisted on being in the count for a dinner plate. Still, we each had guests at our wedding.

Unfortunately, we both faced the devastating blow of divorce; mine after 24 years and hers after 72 days. We both handled it with class and dignity, she by keeping it to a private mediation and not allowing any filming of her reality show during those sessions and me by curling up in bed entombed in a blue Snugli and eating Captain Crunch out of a box for roughly 30 days. Like Kim, I also declined interviews, other than when the police came to my home and asked if I had a permit for the racks of used men's clothing and shoes I had placed on my front lawn. Yes, we both know the pain of public scrutiny.

Kim and I both have Twitter accounts. I found that a lot of our tweets are similar! For instance:

Kim: Obsessed with my quick fix essential! The #KardashianSunKissed Instant Sunless Spray is everything!!!
Me: OMG. Dry shampoo? I'm obsessed. #RHOCMarathonTooBusyToShower

Kim: Chill day with blacchyna rachel_roy
Me: Salsa stain on fave rachel roy tshirt

Kim: Black Amex at Panda Express LOL RT
Me: Target Visa over limit at Dunkin :(

Kim has two sisters and I have two sisters. What? No. I believe those other two girls on the Kardashian show are junior maids in training. Anyway, I'm sure you get my point. We are one. I thank Carine for letting the world know what I have always known: Kim Kardashian is just one of the gals like the rest of us. Now I must dash -- Karl Lagerfield is waiting outside to take me to my photo shoot where I will sport a gold grill and let everyone look up my nose. Ciao.

"The Killing" has been cancelled again. Deadline first broke the news that AMC has pulled the plug on the mystery series following the conclusion of Season 3, which was well-received by critics but only drew 1.5 million viewers for its most recent finale -- a far cry from the 2.7 million that watched the show when it first premiered.

“We have made the difficult decision not to move forward with a fourth season of 'The Killing,'” AMC said in a statement. “We want to thank our great partners at Fox Television Studios, creator Veena Sud, an extraordinary cast and the dedicated fans who watched.”

“Fox Television Studios is extremely proud of all three seasons of 'The Killing,'” the production studio added in a statement obtained by Deadline. “We’re especially gratified to have orchestrated a unique deal with AMC for season three that included a bold partnership with Netflix. While we would have loved to produce a fourth season for AMC, FTVS is immensely grateful to everyone involved with this moving series: our brilliant cast, led by Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman and season three’s Peter Sarsgaard, our stellar executive producer, Veena Sud, a remarkable writing and producing team, and a tireless, dedicated crew. Most of all, FTVS thanks the terrific fans of 'The Killing,' who communicated their appreciation for the show throughout its run.”

There may still be hope for another resurrection, as Netflix reportedly expressed interest in exclusively airing "The Killing" after AMC axed it following Season 2, as did DirecTV. But don't get your hopes up just yet -- the show's ratings decline won't make it a particularly appealing investment for other networks, especially after failing to reverse its fortunes after its second chance.
