Who says dogs can't blog?

Disney Channel has announced a new live-action, multicamera series, "Dog With A Blog," starring -- you guessed it -- a dog. Adopted by his family in hopes of helping two feuding stepbrothers get along, the four-legged pup named Stan soon proves he has more to him than meets the eye: Stan can talk and write!

The show stars G. Hannelius ("Good Luck Charlie"), Blake Michael ("Lemonade Mouth"), Francesca Capaldi ("A.N.T. Farm"), Beth Littleford ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart"), Regan Burns ("Wizards of Waverly Place") and Stephen Full ("I'm in the Band").

"With our track record of discovering young talent who are 'triple threats,' we launched a nationwide search," Adam Bonnett, senior vice president of Disney Channel, said. "And our reward is that we found the one dog who could talk, blog and do his own stunts. Working with kids and animals has never been more fun!"

"Dog With A Blog" is slated for a fall 2012 premiere.

The problem with going to a party thrown by Paul McCartney is that all the A-listers are going to show up wearing threads designed by his daughter, Stella McCartney.

Sir Paul premiered his new video "My Valentine," which stars Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman, last night, and as it turns out, tons of people opted for looks from Stella's spring 2012 collection -- awwwwwkward.

Pregnant Reese Witherspoon hid her baby bump in a black lacy frock, and Zooey Deschanel went for one of her standard froufy dresses. Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristen Stewart were there, but both covered up, Gwyn in jeans and K-Stew in a blue skirt.

But several guests opted for the spring/summer 2012 cutout dress: Miranda Kerr chose one in basic black, Liberty Ross donned the red version and Rumer Willis looks ravish in the black one.

But hats off to Gwen Stefani, who earns sexiest of the night in a sheer Stella jumpsuit that showed off her stunning figure.

Marc Anthony Allegedly Wanted J. Lo Back, She Chose New Boyfriend Casper Instead

Despite officially filing for divorce from Jennifer Lopez on Monday, Marc Anthony actually may have wanted to get back together, according to TMZ. But J. Lo decided to stay with new boyfriend Casper Smart instead.

Sources told TMZ Anthony was "blindsided" and "hurt" by Lopez's assertion that she is "madly in love" with Casper since he hadn't thought their relationship to be "so serious."

Poor Marc. That could be why, after almost nine months of being separated, he finally filed divorce papers.

Back in June, the couple announced their separation with a joint statement:

"We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."

The pair have been married since 2004 and are parents to 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme.

Edie Falco's Son Thinks Everyone Is Adopted

"Nurse Jackie" actress, Edie Falco, told Anderson Cooper on Thursday that her adopted son, also named Anderson, thinks everyone else was adopted, too.

"My son says, 'So then the lady has the baby in her belly,' and then I said, 'And when the baby comes out she gives the baby to the mommy,'" Falco said.

Anderson, 8, and his younger sister Macy, 4, were both adopted. Falco says she'll let them stick to the "everyone's adopted" theory for awhile. "The fact that some of the ladies keep the babies for their own. We will get to that.”

Eventually, when she does explain how other families are made, Falco says she isn't worried about how her kids will react. "The second you are handed a newborn it is yours. It doesn’t matter what body it came out of. I’ve never felt more strongly about anything in my life," she said.

Falco admits that she never thought of adoption before the time came when she wanted to have kids. "At that time I was single and the idea to adopt came to me. I never really thought about all of the ramifications. I just knew this is what’s happening. It’s only as I travel through I realize each challenge comes up and you deal with it as you get to it," she told Cooper.

Axl Rose, Rod Stewart MIA At Hall of Fame Induction

CLEVELAND — The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony didn't miss Axl Rose at all.

The rowdy celebration, which in past years has included awkward moments, touching tributes and unforgettable performances, rocked on without Rose, the Guns N' Roses frontman who may one day regret skipping a night when 6,000 fans, 1,400 guests and many of music's biggest stars partied in Public Hall with the class of 2012.

Hard rockers Guns N' Roses – minus Rose – headlined this year's eclectic group of inductees. Others being enshrined are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, folk icon Donovan, late singer-songwriter Laura Nyro and British bands the Small Faces and Faces.

Before the ceremony started with a blistering performance by Green Day, Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis said it was strange to be enshrined while on tour.

"We're going somewhere," Kiedis said. "How can we stop and take an award when really we're just halfway there? But it is nice to be together with people that we spent some incredible years along the way writing songs and playing shows in little theaters and sweaty little transvestite clubs and having the time of our lives."

Cleveland rocked without Rose.

Green Day, which was scheduled to induct Guns N' Roses, got things started by tearing into "Letterbomb" with Billie Joe Armstrong leading the sold-out room of fans and celebrities in a sing-a-along chorus.

The first mention of Rose's name drew a smattering of boos that were soon drowned out by the music.

Rose, the screeching frontman and ringmaster of the G N' R traveling circus of dysfunction for decades, said earlier this week that he didn't want to be part of the ceremony because it "doesn't appear to be somewhere I'm actually wanted or respected."

He cited a continuing rift with his former band mates as the main reason for not attending. His decision disappointed fans and ended months of speculation about whether the original Guns N' Roses lineup would unite for the first time since 1993 and perform any of their classic hits like "Welcome to the Jungle" or "Sweet Child O' Mine."

As the ceremony approached, fans gathered on the sidewalks outside the historic venue, which hosted the Beatles in 1964, for a peek at some of rock's royalty.

Alice Cooper was the fan favorite on the red carpet, signing autographs, telling printable stories and waving in response to cheers of "Alice, Alice!"

"New York is glitz, Cleveland is the nuts and bolts," said Cooper, comparing the cities that share the rock hall induction ceremonies, which are held at New York's Waldorf-Astoria and come to Cleveland every third year.

Funk icon George Clinton made a splashy entrance, arriving in a silver bullet-shaped vehicle familiar to amusement park thrill riders. Wearing a gray herringbone coat and black fedora, he stood and waved from the back seat.

Like Guns N' Roses, the Red Hot Chili Peppers emerged from Los Angeles during the 1980s when Sunset Strip's rock scene was dominated by "hair" bands more concerned with their tight lycra pants and eyeliner than their sound. Not the Chili Peppers, who found their unique groove by blending funky hooks and a punk ethos.

While their lineup has undergone some changes – founding guitarist Hillel Slovak died of a heroin overdose in 1988 – Kiedis and bassist Flea have survived personal highs and lows and the band remains one of music's top live acts.

Kiedis said Slovak would have loved the honor.

"I think that he would have a good laugh," Kiedis said. "Yeah, it would certainly mean something to him as he cared deeply about music and the love of the brotherhood of being in a band and being a creative force in the universe, which he is and always will be a brother in everything we do."

Stevie Van Zandt, one of Bruce Springsteen's sidemen in the E Street Band, inducted the Small Faces and Faces, bands that included Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood, two rock superstars.

Van Zandt credited the underrated bands for having a major influence on generations of rockers. He said both were blessed to have strong lead singers in the late Steve Marriott and Rod Stewart.

"Not many bands get two lives or two of the greatest white soul singers in the history of rock and roll," he said.

Stewart came down with the flu this week and couldn't attend. Simply Red's lead singer Mick Hucknall, a friend of the band, filled in for Stewart on "All Or Nothing," "Ooh La La," and the crowd-pleasing classic "Stay With Me," with Wood, previously inducted with the Rolling Stones, delivering an exquisite slide guitar.

During a speech that was at times comical but heartfelt throughout, John Mellencamp inducted Donovan, a balladeer from the flower-power 1960s once labeled "the new Dylan." Donovan Leitch had a string of hits in the `60s with "Sunshine Superman," "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "Mellow Yellow."

Mellencamp, sporting a healthy growth of gray whiskers, grabbed a few puffs on a cigarette as a video tribute of Donovan played on giant screens. During his remarks, Mellencamp raised the copy of Donovan's "Fairy Tale" album he bought 47 years ago as a kid in Indiana.

"I wasn't just listening to Donovan, I was living Donovan," Mellencamp said. "He was my inspiration. One of the original originals."

Instead of reading prepared notes, Donovan accepted his honor by reciting a poem – without using a script – inspired by his induction. It ended with the line: "I thank my fellow artists all."

Blues guitarist Freddie King was inducted first. Nicknamed "The Texas Cannonball," the late King was one of the first bluesmen to be backed by a multi-racial band. He was welcomed into the hall by ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill.

"Freddie taught us how to play like a group," Gibbons said.

The influential Nyro, who died in 1997, never reached commercial success but wrote hits for other artists. She was inducted by singer Bette Midler, who called the New York songstress "one of my favorite artists."

"I loved her the moment I dropped the needle on the vinyl," Midler said. "She influenced so many musicians. She was the very essence of New York City. Not in the gritty real sense, but in the passionate, romantic, ethereal, eternal sense."

Carole King inducted late rock promoter Don Kirchner, who helped launch the careers of Prince and the Eagles.

Smokey Robinson inducted long-deserving backup bands for early rock artists. The groups included Buddy Holly's The Crickets, James Brown's The Famous Flames, Bill Hailey's The Comets and Robinson's The Miracles.

CULVER CITY, Calif. — Five guitars belonging to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been stolen from a Southern California soundstage where the band has been rehearsing for an upcoming tour.

Culver City Police Sgt. Dan Sukal says the theft at The Culver Studios was reported Thursday.

On its website, the band offered a "no questions asked" $7,500 reward for information leading to the return of the instruments.

The stolen guitars include Petty's blond 1967 12-string Rickenbacker and his Gibson SGTVJunior, Mike Campbell's blue Dusenberg, Ron Blair's Fender Broadcaster and Scott Thurston's 1967 Epiphone Sheridan.

The band is known for a string of hit singles such as "American Girl", "Don't Do Me Like That," and "Breakdown." Their tour kicks off on April 18 in Broomfield, Colo.

The Culver Studios is a sprawling complex of 16 soundstages west of downtown Los Angeles.

Charles Karel Bouley: Radio Rules the Day as Carolla Wins 36th Toyota Pro/Celebrity Grand Prix of Long Beach (VIDEO)

Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy, Resident Evil: Afterlife) felt pretty good starting the ridiculously beautiful Saturday April 14, 2012 36th Toyota Pro/Celebrity race as part of the 38th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. After all, even in one of the worst storms to roll through Long Beach in some time on Friday the 13th, he managed to take the top Poll position, qualifying at 1:49:385 with Adam Carolla right behind him at 1:49:940 and Eddie Cibran right behind with 1:50:077; and those times were off of the morning qualifying heat due to the storm.

Coates' poll position won him the 15th Annual People Pole Award from People magazine and a check for $15,000 to his charity, One Heart Source in Africa.

"My daughter is involved with this charity, so you've made her very happy and this has made me a very popular dad," he said at Friday's qualifying event as People magazine awarded him and his charity a check for $15,000.

But how one evening can change things.

At Saturday's Toyota pro/celebrity race the tide quickly turned for Coates.

Remember, this may be all in good fun and for charity, but the celebrities and pros want to win. While there is a sense of team spirit, there is also real competition. For many, like Coates, this is not their first race or Grand Prix.

"It's fun when you get to crash other people's stuff for charity," Adam Carolla joked prior to the race.

It didn't seem too fun for Coates. His race ended early, after a promising start, in lap 7, when a crash sent him to the wall and then to be checked out by doctors shortly after the checkered flag was lowered. His car remained dangerously in lanes on the dreaded Hairpin curve of the track.

Coates wouldn't be the only celebrity to taste the wall or metal. Even before Coates left the race Brody Jenner and Eddie Cibrian clashed after Cibrian had trouble with a corner and Jenner collided with him in Lap 3, leaving Jenner out.

2012-04-14-brody.jpg

Brody Jenner talks to Karel in the People magazine celebrity compound.

"It's a shame to ruin such a beautiful day this way," he said shortly thereafter. "I really wanted to finish, because, it's fun! Plus, I wanted to win. But it wasn't in the stars. I ran in to Cibrian, well, he ran in to me! Or somehow we ran into each other."

WIn or not, it must be fun being Brody Jenner. This star of reality TV who the term "bromance" was coined was the definite attention getter as women, and a few men, from behind the fence of the Toyota Grand Prix People Celebrity Paddock screamed for his attention.

"Well, at least if the fans are having a good time, and people are here for the race, it makes it all worthwhile. It is for kids, after all," he added.

Many celebrities talked of the charity, The Miller Children's Hospital and Racing for Kids. Toyota donated $5000 to Racing for Kids in the name of each celebrity and pro participant and an additional $5,000 to Adam Carolla's charity, because of the win.

Carolla was quick to clarify the charity aspect of this after.

"FIrst of all, this is the best part of being a celebrity, and one of the best perks, so I encourage you all to become celebrities quick," he joked as the press conference after the event began. "But let's remember, there's a lot of talk about how this is for the kids. Well, the kids are great, they are fine, but they could know me or anyone else from Adam at five or six. It's really the parents that need as much support. I can't imagine what it's like to hold your kid's hand time and time again, surgery after surgery, to be there, sleeping on chairs and cots, sometimes through very trying times. We need to remember it's as much for those heroes as it is for the kids. For us? It's just a blast," he concluded.

Racing for Kids is a national nonprofit program benefiting children's hospitals in Long Beach and Orange County, Calif. Toyota has donated more than two million since 1991. People magazine goes above and beyond by awarding the winning Poll placer $15k to their charity.

CSI:NY's Hill Harper took the race very seriously. He challenged Carolla for the lead for the last third of the race, never letting up until the end and taking a very decent second. Harper had the fastest lap of any pro or celebrity.

2012-04-14-Hill.jpg

"The instructors were so great," Harper started. "We train for weeks out at Willow Springs and they take this race very seriously. Things happen fast out there, and you have to be prepared. I listened and studied hard, and I wanted to win," he added. "I will definitely come back if I can, I want this."

Latin superstar Kate del Castillo (NBC/Mun2) finished first amongst the women, including Grand Prix Queen Jillian Barberie Reynolds (the female veteran).

"Jillian has done this before, so it wasn't fair to paint us as rivals," Casitllo laughed after. "We drive like this in my country all the time, I like to speed," she continued in good spirits.

When asked about her involvement on behalf of the large Hispanic community now represented at the Grand Prix (Bellanova is the headliner Saturday, April 14th, a wildly popular Latin band) she said it was overwhelming to see the response.

"My fans brought banners and were so loud, it was so wonderful to see them all turn out here in Long Beach. I'd love to come back and reconnect with them again, and of course, do the race!" she concluded.

William Fichner (Contact, The Lone Ranger, Entourage) finished second in the pro, a category he earned by winning last year's Celebrity Grand Prix, with pro racer Frederic Aasbo finished first in the pro. Record Producer and American Idol Mentor Jim Jonsin took third in pro and Bryan Clauson fourth.

2012-04-14-Adrien.jpg

In all it was Carolla, Harper and Biff Gordon taking the top three podium spots in the 36th Annual Toyota celebrity/pro race. Gordon is a Toyota Dealer who drives through winning the spot on silent auction (again, for charity). Rutledge Wood came in fourth, with Cain Velasquez, Adrien Brody, Kate del Castillo, Jerry Westlund, Jillian Barberie Reynolds, Doug Fregin, Eileen Davidson (daytime TV), Eddie Cibrian, Kim Coates and Brody Jenner finishing out the pack; with the last two not finishing.

The average speed for the celebrities was 63.866 with the best speed 66.147. However speeds in excess of 100 are not uncommon during Grand Prix.

The 38th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach continues all weekend with the main race beginning at 1:30 on Sunday, April, 15. The race brings hundreds of thousands of people to Long Beach and is a major source of economic stimulus. It is the largest event in Long Beach and one of the top three in the state. LOOK: Alexa Vega Dyes Hair For New Movie Role

On Friday, actress Alex Vega (“Spy Kids,” “From Prada to Nada”) tweeted the following to her fans: “Going back to blonde! Ahhh. So weird. Gonna miss my dark hair...But today is a new beginning. Starting fresh.”

After spending hours at an L.A. hair salon on Friday, Alexa sent The Huffington Post an exclusive photo of her new blonde look (see the photo above!) this morning.

While Alexa seemed really excited about dying her hair , not everyone was thrilled about her decision to go from brunette to blonde. One of Alexa's followers (@Jairo_Rockzz on Twitter), had this to say about the change in hair color. “Nooooo! You look prettier and HOTTER with dark hair... Well actually you look great being a blond too, but...Idk!” Alexa replied, saying: "lol. Goin back to blonde for a movie."

Vega, 23, is best known for playing Carmen Cortez in the "Spy Kids" film series, and for her role as the title character Ruby Gallagher in the ABC Family sitcom, "Ruby & The Rockits."

More recently, the half-Colombian actress starred as Gaby Rodriguez, the real-life seventeen-year-old high school senior who secretly faked a pregnancy as a social experiment, in the new Lifetime movie "The Pregnancy Project."

On October 10th, 2010, Vega married producer Sean Covel in a ceremony held in his hometown of Lead, South Dakota. She was walked down the aisle by her friend, Mexican writer-director, Robert Rodriguez.

John Lundberg: A Brief Guide to National Poetry Month

$
0
0

We're already in the thick of National Poetry Month, an annual opportunity for journalists to quote the opening to T.S. Eliot's "The Wasteland" (yes, you're very clever), and, more to the point, a chance for lovers of poetry to celebrate and call attention to the art.

The Academy of American Poets established National Poetry Month back in 1996, and it's been gaining momentum ever since. The event has grown beyond poets to become a coordinated effort by teachers, publishers, non-profit and government agencies, corporate sponsors, and lots and lots of celebrities.

The Academy's terrific website has a guide that lays out a few of the month's highlights. My favorite is Poem In Your Pocket Day (April 26), which asks that you carry a poem with you throughout the day to share with your friends and coworkers. If you don't have one in mind, you can choose from dozens of print-ready, pint-sized poems on the website, among them, this appropriate snippet from Walt Whitman's "The Indications":

The words of the true poems give you more than poems,
They give you to form for yourself, poems, religions, politics, war, peace, behavior, histories, essays, romances, and everything else,
They balance ranks, colors, races, creeds, and the sexes,
They do not seek beauty -- they are sought,
Forever touching them, or close upon them, follows beauty, longing, fain, love-sick.

They prepare for death -- yet are they not the finish, but rather the outset,
They bring none to his or her terminus, or to be content and full;
Whom they take, they take into space, to behold the birth of stars, to learn one of the meanings,
To launch off with absolute faith -- to sweep through the ceaseless rings, and never be quiet again.

And if carrying a piece of paper is, well, just too 2007 for you, you can carry a poem with you on your iPhone instead. Both the Academy and the Poetry Foundation offer excellent poetry apps. You can also sign up to receive a free poem a day throughout the month via email.

As has become tradition, National Poetry Month also draws a lot of star power. Celebrities flocked to this year's Poetry and the Creative Mind Gala at Lincoln Center in New York to share their love for the art. This year's readers included Meryl Streep, Claire Danes and Terrence Howard. And a slew of celebrity parents -- including Jessica Alba, Viola Davis, Liev Schreiber and Katie Holmes -- have recorded poems that will air on the Disney Channel throughout the month. The poetry series, called "A Poem Is... ," aims to expose children to poetry by setting verse to classic Disney scenes from Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and others. You can watch one that Jennifer Garner recorded for the project last year here.

For some of the participating celebrities, supporting poetry is more than just lip service. Alba revealed to NPR last week that she's tried her hand at the art. "I have a lot of teen angst on paper," she said. "Now I just kind of make up songs for my girls. I have little poems that I sing to them before they go to sleep, to the tune of 'Twinkle Twinkle (Little Star).'"

That's kind of adorable. Join her, and the rest of us poets (who are just as attractive... on the inside), and take some time for poetry this month.

Someone Who Doesn't Fancy Harry?!

After months of girls (literally) falling at his feet, One Direction heart-throb Harry Styles will be reeling with the shock of rejection after one American beauty laughed off his request for a date.

Harry spotted TV star Jillian Harris, who is 14 years his senior, in a Los Angeles restaurant and wasted no time strolling over and asking for her phone number.

But the 32-year-old laughed off his request, saying: "I am way too old for you."

Unlike Harry's ex Caroline Flack, also 32, Jillian said she could never date anyone as young as 18-year-old Harry.

Jillian, who rose to fame in the US by appearing on hit reality show The Bachelor, explained to The Mirror: "He asked for my phone number. He looked cute and adorable. But he was also very young looking. I am sorry but I could never date an 18-year-old. I don't think that's even legal in the US, is it?"

Harry recently hooked up with 24-year-old photographer Sarah-Louise Colivet during the band's tour stop in New York.
