The third season of "House of Cards" leaked online for a brief moment on Wednesday, allowing pretty much everyone who writes about pop culture on the Internet to spend 58 minutes with the season premiere. "Due to a technical glitch some Underwood fans got a sneak peak," a representative for Netflix said in a statement. "He'll be back on Netflix on Feb 27. #no spoilers." Okay, fine, #no spoilers (not even about that guy), but that doesn't mean we can't discuss some specifics, especially those put out by Netflix itself. Ten of the season's 13 episodes were included in the leak, each accompanied by vague descriptions that would make Matthew Weiner confused. Ahead, what fans can expect from the third season according to Netflix.

1. "A rocky start for the Underwood Presidency. Frank wants to introduce an ambitious jobs program, while Claire sets her sights on the United Nations."

2. "Claire's U.N. bid runs into trouble. Frank fights off mutiny with a bold address to the country."

3. "The Russian president's state visit becomes a cold war of wills, and some punks heat things up."

4. "Claire bypasses Russia at the U.N. Frank tries to outmaneuver a potential challenger and ends up face to face with a higher power."

5. "Frank declares war on Congress to jump-start his jobs program. Claire spars with the Russian Ambassador."

6. "Frank and Claire travel to Moscow to negotiate the return of an imprisoned U.S. citizen. Claire takes a stand that jeopardizes their plans."

7. "The damage is done and the Underwoods must repair it. But deep wounds don't heal fast, and sometimes not at all."

8. "A hurricane endangers more than just the entire East Coast and Frank must make a difficult choice."

9. "The Jordan Valley erupts in chaos just as Frank's campaign is picking up steam. Claire gets disturbing intel and counsels him."

10. "Frank needs to deal with Petrov one on one while Claire tries to preserve the peace-keeping mission. Sacrifices must be made."

"House of Cards" returns on Feb. 27

Michael Keaton Isn't 'Birdman'

2015-02-11-2015_02_NYT_TT_MichaelKeaton_026.jpeg

Michael Keaton hates talking about himself. This is why he's never been able to understand politicians. "They talk about themselves for years, move the truth around for years, only to win an election and do it for more and more years," he says to the New York Times culture reporter Cara Buckley at a recent TimesTalk. "It takes a really interesting type of person to do that."

Which is why he doesn't really entertain the idea that he is in any way his character Riggan Thomson in Birdman, a Hollywood actor struggling to make a comeback after starring in a blockbuster superhero trilogy. It's not about him or his story at all, according to Keaton. "All the characters are versions of [Birdman director Alejandro González Iñárritu]," he says. Birdman is not a proxy for Batman. "If that was your reading of it, it'd be pretty superficial," Keaton says.

For starters, Riggan is what Keaton describes as "mean and narcissistic," two qualities Keaton, a humble, salt-of-the-earth type, does not possess. "I wouldn't want to hang with him a lot," Keaton says of Riggan.

More than anything, Keaton relates to Riggan as a human being, not a Hollywood actor. Keaton hasn't "taken the pill," as he told NPR Riggan has, believing that he is as wonderful as the press says he is, the attention of an audience his lifeblood. But he understands where Riggan's coming from.

"People always make these generalized statements about Hollywood, and there's all kinds of people in Hollywood," he tells me backstage in the green room minutes before he takes the stage. "It's all larger than us. It's a giant machine. People are human, they believe certain things, and they want to believe certain things, and then they want things so badly, and that leads to desperation."

But Keaton isn't desperate. He isn't hungry for a "comeback" because, as he sees it, he hasn't gone anywhere. "I've done a lot of things that are stupid and I'm horrible in them, but I keep moving toward art," he says to an audience member during the TimesTalk. "Generally, I move in the direction of art."

Birdman is obviously a work of art, and more than that, it's a comedy, a fact that Keaton, who started his career as a standup comedian in Pittsburgh, couldn't be happier about.

"I'm so glad that people are paying attention to something that's a comedy, because comedy doesn't get its due," he says. "People when they talk or write about comedy, they don't really get it. When you look at this accomplishment of Alejandro and the cast, it's really extraordinary. I love that it's technically a comedy. I'm very proud of that."

While Keaton may not be Birdman, he's confirmed on many occasions that he is most definitely Batman.

During the Q&A after the TimesTalk, a fan approached the microphone and told Keaton he was addressing the question to "Michael, not Bruce Wayne," to which Keaton responded with a grin, "How do you know?"

Watch All Of Your Favorite Actors In The Trailer For Cameron Crowe's 'Aloha'

Outgoing Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal pretty much trashed Cameron Crowe's "Aloha" in emails leaked during the Sony hack in December, but the film's first trailer looks kind of good? We guess that's what happens when Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, John Krasinski, Danny McBride, Alec Baldwin and Bill Murray all appear in a movie. This one's a romance with a twist, one Crowe had in development for actual years. Back in 2008, it was a movie he wanted to make with Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon. But Cooper and Stone seem like good fits. "Aloha" is out on May 29. Watch the trailer below, via People.

Why Didn't Beyoncé Win Album of the Year?

2015-02-10-beygrammy.gif

After the debacle that was the 2015 Oscar nominations, in which Black-centric movies such as Belle and Selma were denied nominations for Best Picture in favor of the scintillating Middle-Class Heterosexual White Male Makes a Privileged Commentary on His Society, many hoped that the Grammys would offer the unbiased recognition of diverse talent the Oscars so staunchly avoids.

Then Beck beat out Beyoncé for Album of the Year, and the collective realization was made that in 2015, systems of privilege have the power to trump talent when the time comes to make decisions about recognizing excellence at the highest level.

The trend of white (male) artists winning Album of the Year over Black female artists whose albums are complex, controversial, and commercially successful is nothing new. In 1987, Janet Jackson's album Control, which was widely regarded as an innovative work of Black feminism, lost the Album of the Year award to Paul Simon's Graceland. Then, in 1998, Jackson's The Velvet Rope, which was praised for its introspective lyrics about Jackson's struggles with anorexia, mental illness, and her sexuality, was not nominated for Album of the Year at all, the award ultimately going to Bob Dylan for Time Out of Mind.

Similarly, Beyoncé's self-titled album features the artist praising her own sexuality; grappling with the emotional trauma of a miscarriage, motherhood, marriage; and emphasizing the value of the unique Black female aesthetic. ("I woke up like this" is a reference to Black female beauty and was never intended to become an ironic twee catchphrase.) Beyoncé released the album with no prior promotion and subsequently changed the music industry in her refusal to submit her work to the inevitable possibility of its message being misconstrued and appropriated during the promotional process. Beyoncé is, in short, a nuanced self-portrait that examines the limitless possibilities of what a Black woman can be (a wife, mother, sexual being, businesswoman, artist, etc.) that was produced and released in a way that very adamantly rejected the assumed superiority of a patriarchal society built upon white privilege. Beyoncé, over the course of her 18-year career, worked to place herself in a position that afforded her the wealth, influence, and notoriety to make an attempt to subvert the existing power structure in both the music industry and American society, and the lyrical and visual content of Beyoncé subtly encourages its listeners to do the same.

So you can see now why Beyoncé was never going to win Album of the Year.

Of course, Beyoncé did end up taking home a couple of Grammys. Three, to be exact, in the categories of Best R&B Song ("Drunk in Love"), Best R&B Performance ("Drunk in Love"), and Best Surround Sound Album (Beyoncé). However, upon closer inspection, these accolades are not the benign wins that they appear to be but a social representation of essentialist ideologies that prevent artistic works by people of color from receiving the large-scale recognition that they deserve. In this context, essentialism is basically the idea that groups in our society (may those groups be classified by gender, race, or ethnicity) have certain "essential" inherent qualities that shape the way they think, act, and interact with other social groups.

The creation of "Urban" and "R&B" (and, to an extent, "Rap") categories for award shows like the Grammys perpetuates the idea that music that is traditionally produced by African Americans is so drastically different from "mainstream" music that it requires its own category and a different standard of evaluation. While it is true that R&B music differs from certain types of pop, rock, and country music in terms of beat, rhythm, and melody, placing an artist like Beyoncé, who has achieved crossover appeal, into such a category implies that no matter how successful she becomes, the "essential" qualities linked to her race and gender will always prevent her from achieving the same recognition as white males (who have positioned themselves as the "default" for identity in American society). Additionally, allowing her to win only in those categories as a quasi-consolation prize isolates the Black feminist message of her album to one stereotypical racial category and prevents it from being acknowledged by a wider white audience.

Institutions like the Academy and the Grammy selection committee have consistently proven themselves to be uncomfortable with change and racial difference. There is a reason that African-American actors and actresses typically only win Academy Awards for portraying criminals, prostitutes, maids, enslaved people, and villains. The same reason applies to why African-American musicians such as Common, Beyoncé, and J. Cole are regularly snubbed or under-rewarded for their musical talent as soon as they begin to take definitive and public stances on issues relating to racism and discrimination.

It is unsurprising for people who hold racist, sexist, homophobic, or classist personal beliefs to dislike or condemn those who actively work to dismantle systems of oppression. However, issues arise when the same discriminatory beliefs are used to decide who receives the highest accolades in a particular field and, along with that, national and international recognition. Admittedly, it would be difficult to expect the selection committees of shows such as the Grammys and the Oscars to immediately become institutions that accurately represent and respect the cultural differences that exist in our society today. However, as individuals it is entirely possible to explore these differences ourselves and promote the validity of variation within a cultural, musical, and artistic aesthetic.

Pink Strips Down For PETA's 'Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur' Ad

Pink would “rather go naked than wear fur” -- and that’s not just lip service.

The 35-year-old singer has stripped down in support of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ anti-fur campaign. According to E! Online, a 90-foot PETA billboard was erected in New York City’s Times Square on Wednesday featuring the fresh-faced Pink in her birthday suit.

The ad, photographed by Ruven Afanador, was unveiled just in time for the start of New York Fashion Week.

"I’ve always felt that animals are the purest spirits in the world," Pink, a long-time animal rights activist, told Us Weekly. "They don’t fake or hide their feelings, and they are the most loyal creatures on Earth."

In a statement, the “Try” singer urged others to follow in her fur-free footsteps.

"I would like to say I've always been fur-free," she said. “Unfortunately, I went through a selfish phase and wore fur on a couple of occasions. But I wised up and now boycott fur completely. I wish everyone was forced to learn the horrors that these animals go through for fashion trends."

Previously, celebrities like Christy Turlington, Khloe Kardashian and Olivia Munn have stripped down for PETA’s “Go Naked” anti-fur campaign.

David Cross Teases 'Mr. Show' Reunion While Talking Crazy Kickstarter Incentives

The promise of a "Mr. Show" reunion became all too real when David Cross started a Kickstarter for his directorial debut film "Hits."

In order to support with a pay-what-you-want release of the movie on BitTorrent and in theaters, Cross offered up a series of wild incentives on the crowd-funding site to beat his $100,000 donations goal. For $3,000, he has committed to run a fan's Twitter account for one week -- interesting considering that he isn't even on Twitter. For $3,500, he offered to be a godfather to someones' child (that one, surprisingly, never sold) and, for just $500, (not $750 or $1,500 as we both misquote in the video above) Cross said he will mail his beard to a fan, in a nice, wooden box, as soon as he has to shave it for the "Mr. Show" reunion, the news of which was leaked on Twitter by former cast member Paul F. Tompkins.

If that weren't enough, one lucky donator to the Kickstarter -- or a rich one at least -- will be appear as a background actor in the reunion. That perk set someone back a hefty $5,000, but it gave the rest of us something even more valuable: further confirmation that the reunion is happening.

While the details, including where and when the reunion will air and how long it will be, are still under wraps, Cross gave as much confirmation that he could during his interview with Aol Build.

The 36 Best and Worst Celebrity Baby Names of All Time

$

Just as we turn to celebrities for new trends to name our children, we also look toward them to see what outrageous names they have picked this time around. From Apple to Zahara, Mallory Moss presents the best and worst celebrity baby names of all time.

And when it was bad, it was horrid:

  1. Audio Science (Shannon Sossamon & Dallas Clayton). Supposedly, the parents -- a musician and an author -- were looking for a "word name" and decided this name was meaningful. Sorry, this name is hideous. Meaningful words in baby naming may include Harmony, Grace and, yes, even Moxie -- but not Audio Science!

  2. Pirate (Jonathan & Devon Davis). I suppose we should expect the frontman of Korn to have an odd name for a child to match his musical proclivities. But Pirate? Using words with negative connotations can target children with personas of ill-repute before they even have a chance to establish their own identities.

  3. Blue Ivy (Beyoncé Knowles & Jay-Z). My issue with Blue Ivy is that together it sounds like a Gotham villain. At least we know she would likely be fighting another celebrity baby, Moxie CrimeFighter (Penn & Emily Jillette).

  4. Alabama Gypsyrose (Drea de Matteo & Shooter Jennings). It makes sense to me that Shooter Jennings would name a son Waylon after his superstar father. However, Alabama Gypsyrose? The only other Gypsy Rose that I know is the stripper (and author) Gypsy Rose Lee. Who wants that association?

  5. Fuchsia Catherine (Sting & Frances Tumulty). There is one problem and one problem only, Sting: naming a child whose first four letters are F*U*C*H is just not kind. The pronounced word is lovely sounding but to future parents, I would consider the misspelling Fushia, which would have landed it on the "good" list below.

  6. Prince Michael II (Michael Jackson). Oh, Michael. None of this name makes sense. If your son were truly a II, then the King-of-Pop's name would be Prince Michael as opposed to simply Michael Jackson. I am also not a fan of royal monikers, as it makes the baby seem anything but regal.

  7. George Jr, George III, George IV, George V, George VI (George Foreman). I am decidedly not a fan of naming children after their parents or even their grandparents (See: 8 Reasons William and Kate Should Not Name their Baby Girl Diana, Huffington Post, January 28, 2015), but naming ALL your sons after you? That is definitely a self-centered, if not a certifiably narcissistic, move.

  8. Worst names of a sibling group (Jamie & Jooles Oliver):

  • Poppy Honey

  • Daisy Boo

  • Petal Blossom Rainbow

  • Buddy Bear Maurice

Dear Jamie & Jooles: I am not sure why you chose the hippiest hippie names ever known to Hippidom for your children. The names are at best clunky (with the exception of Daisy Boo Oliver, which has a nice cadence) and at worst, one sounds like a cigar-smoking teddy bear.

Not-so-Honorable Mention (They Should have Stopped Midstream)

Here's what is so hard about this list. I kinda like each of the three first names, especially Moxie. I think they are cute. Yes, they are all "word names" but they are old fashioned enough that they can take on their own meanings. However, the middle names are so painful that they all had to fall off the list below and onto the not-so-honorable mention as they morphed into names ridiculous in tone and/or meaning.

  1. Moxie CrimeFighter (Penn & Emily Jillette). Moxie the girl is definitely as cute as Moxie the name, as proven by pictures from her recent birthday party. However, when the Jillettes added CrimeFighter, the name just became laughable.

  2. Memphis Eve & Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q (Bono & Alison Hewson). Guggi Q? Sounds like a Hostess treat. Memphis is a lovely name but when combined with Eve it sounds like a ladies' night beverage or an unmentionable cleanser.

  3. Bronx Mowgli (Ashlee Simpson & Pete Wentz). This name should have been #1 on the worst ever names. Yes, it would even knock Audio Science out of its top position. But what saves it is that Bronx, as a standalone, is also kinda cute. Needless to say Bronx & Moxie are going to be using middle initials on their driver licenses!

The good, the great and the mystifying:

  1. Jaden Christopher Syre & Willow Camille Reign (Will & Jada Pinkett-Smith). In my opinion, these are the best celebrity baby names that have come down the pike. Jada & Will used across-gender variations of their names Jada/Jaden & Will/Willow). They are unique but not weird...a very difficult combination to find for a celebrity baby name.

  2. Apple Blythe Alison (Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin). Apple was quite the topic when the baby name was presented to the world by Gwyneth & Chris. It was quickly condemned as bizarre. However, as a "word" name it is sweet and unusual, which is a great contrast to the two middle names.

  3. Tu Simone Ayer (Rob Morrow & Debbon Ayer). OK, this was another name that hit the worst baby name lists due to the combination of Tu and Morrow. However, Mom's last name means yesterday in Spanish, which makes this name altogether smart. As Simone means "to be heard," the combined meaning of this name could be "To be heard yesterday and tomorrow." That is simply lovely.

  4. Francesca (Clint Eastwood & Frances Fisher) & Kimber (Clint Eastwood & Roxanne Tunis). These names are elegant without being pretentious. Plus, you would not want to mess around with "Frankie" and have her ask you to make her day.

  5. Lou Sulola (Heidi Klum & Seal). I love this name. Not only is this child beautiful in face but she is beautiful in name as well. It is probably one of the best examples of the gender-trend to use names typically associated with the opposite sex.

  6. Gideon Scott & Harper Grace (Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka). These fellas have proven that you can be an A-list celebrity and use traditional names. Thank you for that.

  7. Nia (Stevie Wonder & Tomeeka Robyn Bracy). Just out of the womb comes Nia Wonder, daughter of Stevie and Robyn. Stevie's 9th child, she may just have the most beautiful name of them all!

  8. Kaya Klitschko (Hayden Panettiere & Wladimir Klitschko) & Kaya Faison (Donald Faison & Lisa Askey). I think Kaya is quite possibly the prettiest unusual name out there. I predict that it will set a new trend in baby naming and we will see at least a three-fold increase in its popularity.

  9. Best names of a sibling group (Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie):

  • Zahara Marley

  • Maddox Chivan Thornton

  • Pax Thien

  • Shiloh Nouvel "John"

  • Knox Leon

  • Vivienne Marcheline

Dear Brad and Angelina: the thought you put into your baby names sets an example for the rest of us. The names of your babies have been mindful -- of both culture and beauty. In addition, you have allowed your children, John in particular, to self-select names, which may be the greatest gift of all.

LeBron James Explains The Precautions He Takes To Protect His Sons From Police Misconduct

The ongoing investigation around the fatal police shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Ohio last November has prompted many city residents to take proactive measures in ensuring their children’s safety when encountering law enforcement officials -- and NBA star Lebron James is one of them.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Cleveland Cavalier all-star forward talked about the conversations he has with his two sons, LeBron Jr., and Bryce Maximus.

"The talk is, 'You be respectful, you do what's asked and you let them do their job, and we'll take care of the rest after. You don't have to boast and brag and automatically think it's us against the police,'” James explained.

“I've had one or two encounters with the police in my life that were nothing. But sometimes you just got to shut up. It's that simple. Just be quiet and let them do their job and go on about your life and hopefully things go well."

According to reports, Rice was shot after police responded to a call about an individual with a firearm near a recreation center. It was later revealed Rice was carrying a toy gun that shoots non-lethal plastic pellets.

This fatal and tragic outcome more than likely explains why James takes special precautions to restrict his sons from playing with toy guns outside the confines of their home.

"They have tons of play guns. None of them look real,” he said. “We have Nerf guns that are lime green and purple and yellow. But I don't even let them take them out of the house."

This Crazy 'Simpsons' Theory Actually Makes A Lot Of Sense

$

0
There's a "Simpsons" theory making its way around the Internet, and, if true, it would completely change everything you thought you knew about the show. The theory is that Homer Simpson has actually been in a coma for most of the series. Yes, it sounds hard to believe, but there is actually a lot of evidence.

The theory

According to redditor Hardtopickaname, it all starts in the 1992 episode "Homer the Heretic." During a conversation with God, Homer inquires about the meaning of life. Homer is insistent that he can't wait until he's dead to find out, and God says, "You can't wait six months?"

Six months later in the April 1993 episode "So It’s Come To This: A Simpsons Clip Show," Bart's April Fools' Day prank sends Homer to the hospital:

April Fools: Simpsons from “”So It’s Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show”<br />
"Call for Backup"<br />
"Pretzels, I repeat, we need pretzels!"<br />
For the full clip, click here
Image: Tumblr

Homer goes into a coma, waking up later and choking Bart. However, the theory proposes that Homer never actually woke up from the coma, and everything from that point on is occurring in his head.

But could this really be the case?

The evidence

Image: Tumblr

The redditor first points to how plots before the April 1993 episode seemed to include more mundane things such as Bart cheating on an IQ test, Homer trying to give up drinking and Lisa having a crush on her teacher. After the episode, there were wackier plots. These later stories include things like Homer traveling to outer space, Principal Skinner being revealed as an impostor and Bart and Homer discovering the secret land of jockeys.

The redditor says these fantastical plots prove the point:

This is clearly Homer’s imagination running wild. With no real world restrictions, Homer’s mind is able to dream up scenarios of him and his family in fantasies.

Other evidence includes the celebrity appearances, which could be chalked up to Homer hearing references to celebs while in the coma, and the characters remaining the same age in the series. The Simpson patriarch is said to be subconsciously aware of time passing, which could explain why the characters remain the same age but technology changes.

The case against

"Simpsons" did have some zany plots before Homer went in a coma. For instance, this theory all stems from an episode where Homer is talking with God. In addition, other "Simpsons" theories, such as one that claims Springfield operates outside of time and space, could explain things like the characters staying the same age.

HuffPost Entertainment reached out to "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening for his thoughts and will update this post if and when a response is received.

Is "The Simpsons" just happening in Homer's head? What do you think?

Amy Pascal, Ex-Sony Chief, Acknowledges She Was Fired

NEW YORK (AP) — In her first interview since her exit as co-chairman of Sony Pictures, Amy Pascal opened up about her departure and acknowledged it wasn't voluntary.

Speaking to journalist Tina Brown at the Women in the World conference Wednesday night in San Francisco, Pascal joked, "All the women here are doing incredible things in this world. All I did was get fired." After a long reign as the head of Sony Pictures, the studio last week announced Pascal was stepping down and would start a new production venture at Sony. In her new role as producer, she has already inherited several of the studio's biggest upcoming projects, including Sony's next Spider-man film, to be made in partnership with Marvel Studios.

"I'm 56," she said at the summit. "It's not exactly the time that you want to start all over again. But it's kind of great and I have to and it's going to be a new adventure for me."

Pascal also spoke candidly about the trauma of the hacking attack that preceded her departure. When the extent of the damage was still unraveling and personal information was found to be stolen, Pascal said "everybody was really scared."

"But nagging in the back of my mind, and I kept calling them, like, 'They don't have our emails, right? Tell me they don't have our emails.' 'No, no no,'" recalled Pascal. "Well, then they did. That was a bad moment."

Pascal came under fire, in particular, for emails with producer Scott Rudin in which the two joked about President Barack Obama's presumed taste in movies. Other emails revealed a furious Rudin calling Angelina Jolie names ("the first person I talked to was Angie after that email," said Pascal) and showed her tussling with the powerful producer ("We've been having an ongoing fight since the moment we met," she said of Rudin).

"Everyone understood because we all live in this weird thing together called Hollywood," said Pascal. "If we all actually were nice, it wouldn't work."

Brown founded the Women in the World conference five years ago to bring together women leaders to share stories and advice. Long considered the top female executive in Hollywood, Pascal was known for, among other things, supporting female filmmakers. Speaking to Brown, she said much still needed to change.

"The most important thing we can do in our business is make movies with female protagonists and movies with female villains and movies where the plot of the movie is about them," said Pascal. "The worst thing you can do is be on the sidelines."

Pascal was also entertainingly frank about the inner-workings of the movie business. She called hypersensitive actors "bottomless pits of need."

Said Pascal: "You've never seen anything like it."

This Is What Emma Watson Could Look Like As Belle In 'Beauty And The Beast'

Emma Watson won't appear as Belle in "Beauty and the Beauty" on the big screen until at least 2016, but a Reddit artist is already giving us an idea of what she might look like as the Disney princess.

On Wednesday, Redditor xChasingPavementsx shared their rendition of Watson donning Belle's yellow gown with her wavy hair pulled back, where is quickly rose to the top of the front page. In a comment to another user, xChasingPavementsx -- otherwise known as Maryam Shah Mohammad -- explained the portrait was done using Copic and Chartpack AD markers.

The result is stunning.

"For the drawing, I wanted to give fans of the original Disney classic an idea an how she could possibly look in the new live-action movie," Mohammad told The Huffington Post in an email Thursday. "I knew that some people were apprehensive about the casting choice and I'd hoped that illustrating her in the iconic yellow dress would sway their opinion."

"As for the movie, I'll be buying my advance tickets as soon as they're available. I'm a huge Disney/Emma Watson fan[,] so I have no doubt the film will be amazing!"

Last month, Watson confirmed she has been cast as Belle in a live-action version of the fairytale from director Bill Condon.

"It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There'. My 6-year-old self is on the ceiling -- heart bursting," she wrote on Facebook at the time. "Time to start some singing lessons. I can't wait for you to see it."

This Valentine's Day: Get Engaged With Congo, Break Up With Conflict Gold

$
0
0
Hey, I'm getting engaged!

But not in the way you're thinking. I'm not out ring shopping, but this engagement does have something to do with gold and jewelry. I'm getting engaged in an effort to help support peace in a beautiful but war-ravaged land.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the richest countries on the planet in terms of natural resources. A string of gold mines at the edge of the Great Rift Valley in eastern Congo is an especially valuable national treasure. But instead of generating prosperity and livelihoods, that treasure is being stolen and used to fuel the deadliest war since World War II, with over 5.4 million lives lost over the last two decades.

Today, an array of violent armed groups and army commanders in Congo are illegally mining and smuggling gold on a major scale, aided and abetted by illicit traders in neighboring Uganda and Burundi. The profits from this shadowy trade are supporting terrible violence against the Congolese people: war crimes and crimes against humanity, including mass killings, sexual violence, the abduction and conscription of children as soldiers and the devastation of entire villages and communities.

Despite the challenges, progress is possible. Hard work and legislation have already resulted in 74 percent of miners of tantalum, tin and tungsten, three other major Congolese conflict minerals, now working at conflict-free mines.

Now it is gold's turn. With positive action by companies and consumers, this precious mineral can contribute to peace and prosperity in Congo. Jewelry companies -- the largest end-users of gold worldwide -- can commit to source from conflict-free gold mines in Congo, and invest in the sustainable development of local communities. In doing so, gold profits that currently fund warlords and violent groups can be restored to the rightful owners: Congolese citizens and communities working together for a peaceful, prosperous future.

There are already conflict-free mining projects of other minerals run by electronics companies like Motorola Solutions, so gold would be the next step. Jewelers are not the only solution, and more work must be done by the U.S. government, the European Union, Congo and regional governments. But jewelers and consumers like us can play important roles.

With Valentine's Day approaching, you might be thinking about what gift of jewelry you can give that special someone that perfectly expresses your love. Consider, too, how that gift can support peace -- what it represents from mine to maker -- and make Congo's future a part of that decision.

Is there hope we can really make a difference? Yes, there is. Just last year, we still weren't sure if companies were listening. But today, we know that some of the most legendary names in the jewelry world are starting to get engaged with conflict-free gold from Congo. With the support of concerned organizations like the Enough Project, Signet Jewelers (parent company of Jared, Kay and Zales) and Tiffany & Co. are leading the way toward a conflict-free Congo gold trade. A handful of other companies -- Cartier, JC Penney and Target -- have also taken important initial steps.

This journey has just begun. You can get engaged in a very simple way, by supporting those leading companies this Valentine's Day and throughout the year, and letting your favorite jeweler know you want them to make the commitment, too. And one day, when you give or receive a piece of jewelry produced with conflict-free Congo gold, you'll know it is contributing to ending the world's deadliest war.

This is an engagement that will last.

2 More Women Accuse Bill Cosby Of Sexual Assault

Two more women came forward Thursday to accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault.

At a press conference organized by attorney Gloria Allred, two former models, Linda Brown and Lise-Lotte Lublin, made statements alleging how Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted them in 1969 and 1989, respectively. Both women spoke while visibly weeping and declined to answer further questions.

Allred called on the public to support the women by believing their stories, protesting Cosby's shows, and pushing to reform statute of limitations laws. "It appears that Bill Cosby thinks he's 'far from finished,'" Allred said, referencing the title of the 77-year-old comedian's 2013 comedy special. "But we are also far from finished."

The Huffington Post contacted Cosby's legal representatives for comment on the latest allegations, but had not heard back at the time of publication.

Brown, a Canadian model, claims that she met Cosby through her agent in 1969, when she was 21 years old. Cosby gave her a ticket to one of his shows, after which a member of his entourage allegedly met her at her seat and escorted her to Cosby's limo. Brown said that she went with Cosby and his entourage to dinner, where he passed around photographs of his wife and children.

After the dinner, Brown said she accompanied Cosby to his friend's apartment, asking to be dropped off at her home nearby. She said that Cosby told her he had a gift for her in his hotel room that he wanted to give to her first. Brown said that she felt safe going with Cosby to his room because his bodyguards were waiting for them in the limo. Cosby gave her a record album and asked her to wait while he made a phone call, Brown said. Then Cosby allegedly poured her a soda to drink while he made the call. The next thing Brown said she remembered was waking up naked in Cosby's bed, unable to move or speak. Then Cosby allegedly raped her.

"I felt dirty, ashamed and embarrassed," Brown said. "I chose to speak out today because I want people to know who Mr. Bill Cosby really is. If you trust him, then you have been fooled by him, too."

LISE-LOTTE LUBLIN

Lublin said she met Cosby in 1989, when she was 23. On their third meeting, Cosby allegedly invited her to the Elvis suite of the Las Vegas Hilton to help her with her acting. Lublin said that, in the suite, Cosby fixed her a shot of alcohol, saying that it would help her relax. Lublin, who did not drink at the time, declined the offer, but Cosby insisted. He then allegedly gave her a second drink. Within minutes, Lublin said, she felt dizzy and disoriented. The last thing she said she recalls clearly is sitting on the couch with Cosby stroking her hair.

Lublin believes that she was then sexually assaulted. Lublin's next clear memory was waking up in her home, her car in her driveway. She said she discussed the incident with her mother, and they concluded at the time that as a non-drinker she'd had a bad reaction to alcohol.

Lublin is now petitioning for the state of Nevada to abolish the statute of limitations for sexual assault cases.

"Every victim Bill Cosby has assaulted that has been called a whore and a liar has helped me become a survivor," Lublin said. "He appears to think rape is a joke, but let me tell you something, Bill, I'm not laughing."

Allred called on Cosby to waive the statute of limitations on the recent allegations or to agree to legal mediation behind closed doors.

More than 20 women have come forward to date to accuse Cosby of sexual assault. Allred said, "Every day, including on weekends, I am being contacted by more women."

She also alluded to at least one victim who was allegedly assaulted in Canada, which has no statute of limitations for sexual assault cases.

Police: Bobbi Kristina Brown Was In Traffic Wreck

ATLANTA (AP) — Whitney Houston's daughter was involved in a traffic accident that injured two people days before she was found face-down in a bathtub, according to a police report obtained by The Associated Press.

Bobbi Kristina Brown lost control of her Jeep Liberty when a tire blew out on Jan. 27, crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding with another vehicle. Police in the Atlanta suburb of Roswell described "extensive damage" to both vehicles. Brown's passenger and the other car's driver were hospitalized. Brown blamed tire failure, and officers found a nail in the Jeep's blown-out right rear tire, the incident report says.

Brown's family said she's been "fighting for her life" since she was found in her bathtub four days later, face-down and unresponsive. A police investigation is ongoing and few details on her condition have been released.

It wasn't the first time police have been called to the townhouse in adjacent Alpharetta, Georgia, where Brown has lived with her partner, Nick Gordon. Brown frequently referred to Gordon as her husband, but a lawyer for her father, singer Bobby Brown, said they never married.

The Associated Press requested records from the Roswell Police Department, the agency that responded to the Jan. 31 call, for any previous contact with Brown or Gordon.

On Jan. 23, a security guard at their gated community called 911 reporting a fight at Brown's address. The guard said a neighbor reported people "hitting each other and swinging" outside the townhome. The guard did not describe the people involved, and no one was there when officers arrived.

Police were called to the home on July 8, 2013, and Gordon told officers Brown was unresponsive after falling on the floor. Gordon described it as a seizure, but Brown told police she had no history of medical conditions and had never had a seizure. The incident report says Brown was disoriented and was taken to a hospital.

Last month's crash also wasn't Brown's first car wreck. Police in Alpharetta cited her in November 2012 for failing to maintain her lane after the black Chevrolet Camaro she was driving landed in a ditch. No injuries were reported in that crash.

Gordon has also been cited for driving infractions. On Dec. 30, he was driving Brown's Lexus and she was a passenger when police said Gordon rear-ended the car in front of him at a red light. Roswell police arrested him then on an unspecified Fulton County warrant.

Last August, Roswell police found Gordon with thick speech and droopy eyes at the scene of an overturned BMW, an incident report says. He was cited for failure to maintain his lane, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.

Gordon was also cited in April 2011 on a charge of pointing a pistol at another person during a fight. Brown was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol during that same incident.
