Scarlett Johansson has a new 'do for summer.

The pregnant star stepped out with fiance Romain Dauriac in New York City on Tuesday, July 29, rocking a new, bright blond hairstyle. In May, she was photographed at the wedding of Princess Florence Von Preussen and English Aristocrat James Tollemache in Somerset, England, with longer, darker locks. Now, Johansson's hair is a sunny hue, cropped above the ears.

No doubt the actress is having a great week. Her new sci-fi thriller, "Lucy," earned $44 million at the box office, beating out "Hercules," Entertainment Weekly reported. It's a career high for the 29-year-old as a lead.

Everything You Need To Know Before Seeing 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'

Just days remain before "Guardians of the Galaxy" arrives in theaters. The next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is a noticeable departure from the rest of the superhero movies in the franchise. This may leave many fans wondering what they may have missed in the lead up to “Guardians.”

We did a little digging on the film in order to present everything Marvel fans should know before seeing “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Marvel Movie Tie-Ins
If no one told you to stick around for a post-credit sequence after every movie Marvel makes, you may have missed the entire setup to "Guardians of the Galaxy," but you can still get caught up.

"Thor: The Dark World": After the mighty Thor stopped the Dark Elves and reclaimed the mysterious Aether, he had his companions, Volstcheg and Lady Sif, bring it to a very peculiar place.

While it may be one of the stranger moments from the MCU, there's actually a lot going on in this clip. Benicio del Toro plays a character named Taneleer Tivan, also known as The Collector. According to the official Marvel Comics Wiki, this character has an intimate knowledge of the universe and spends his life seeking out and collecting rare and powerful items to keep under both his control and protection.

What's important in the clip is that he is given the Aether and there is mention of the Tesseract, which fans will remember from the previous Marvel films. Both items are referred to as being two of six "Infinity Stones." To figure out what those are, we need to go back to another end-credit's sequence.

"The Avengers": After our favorite heroes saved New York City from Loki's alien invasion, the audience learned that a very powerful being was backing him the entire time -- Thanos, played by Josh Brolin in "Guardians of the Galaxy."

We know precious little about the character in the movies, but his comic-book legacy is infamous. Without giving too much away, Thanos gains control of something called the Infinity Gauntlet. This glove contains six Infinity Gems (wink) that give the villain the power to basically destroy the universe and all the heroes in it. Believe it or not, many fans believe that the Infinity Gauntlet has already been seen as early as the first "Thor" movie.

Many may be wondering how this new band of rag-tag heroes fits into this legendary cosmic storyline. The answer is simple: Before Thanos can have his gauntlet, he'll need the six stones.

The Third Stone
According to the movie's official plot synopsis, Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, steals an orb of great yet mysterious power (wink, wink). He then becomes the subject of a full-scale bounty hunt after he learns that a villain named Ronan is also out to steal the powerful orb. He is helped by Nebula (played by Karen Gillan), who comic fans will note is one of Thanos' adopted granddaughters (wink, wink, wink!)

It's worth nothing that this is all just conjecture based on what the films have been setting up thus far. Fans will have to wait until the film is officially release to see what the minds at Marvel Studios have in store for them.

However, if your goal was to get caught up on everything Marvel has set up thus far, you can consider yourself ready to see "Guardians of the Galaxy," which premieres Friday, Aug. 1.

Beyonce And Jay Z Divorce Rumors Are Getting Crazier By The Day

The New York Post is pretty convinced that divorce is imminent for music's biggest power couple, Beyonce and Jay Z.

Ever since TMZ obtained video of Beyonce's sister Solange attacking Jay Z after the Met Ball, rumors of marital problems have been flying left, right and center. The Post has been at the forefront of these claims, quoting sources who must be tapped into the couple's inner circle given the intel they are leaking.

The latest sign that the couple is heading for splitsville comes from claims that Beyonce was reportedly "secretly shopping for new digs without Jay Z." The Post's sources claim that weeks after the attack video went viral, the 32-year-old songstress quietly looked at a $21.5 million Chelsea penthouse, which means alleged trouble for the marriage because there is no way that Beyonce would be looking at such a space for a family member, nor would Jay Z consider leaving his massive Tribeca apartment. "I can say with certainty that Jay is not downsizing," a source told the paper.

At this point their sources say that it's not a matter of if they'll split, but when and how. Sources claim that while the couple presents the image of a happy family in their Instagram photos, which are posted regularly, the only time they spend together is on stage during On The Run shows.

But beyond allegations made by anonymous sources, there are a number of signs contributing to rumors that Bey and Jay may soon call it quits.

  1. With the couple's relationship under new levels of scrutiny after the Solange attack video leaked, it became apparent that Beyonce had her Roman numeral IV tattoo removed from her ring finger -- a tattoo she got in lieu of an engagement ring.

  2. At the couple's Cincinnati show on June 28, Beyonce changed the lyrics to “Resentment" from "I'll always remember feeling like I was no good / Like I couldn't do it for you like your mistress could" to "I'll always remember feeling like I was no good / Like I couldn't do it for you like that wack bitch could." And later she also changed the lines from "Been ridin' with you for six years [...] I gotta look at her in her eyes and see she's had half of me" to "Been ridin' with you for 12 years [...] I gotta look at her in her eyes and see she's had half of me. She ain't even half of me. That bitch will never be."

And if she's not changing the lyrics to her songs she's belting out brutally emotional covers like her rendition of Lauryn Hill's "Ex Factor," at the couple's New Orleans show (though it should be noted, it's a song Beyonce covered in the past, well before divorce rumblings ran rampant).

  3. A blind item from Blind Gossip claimed on July 21 that a high-profile couple was in the process of "splitting up everything (properties, money, child/ren) right now, but will be keeping up appearances until the announcement." While most would brush off these blind items, Blind Gossip was the same site that accurately predicted Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' divorce.

With all that in mind, it's important to remember that Beyonce and Jay Z are masters of publicity. And it's not beyond the realm of possibility to think that they might be the ones pulling the strings. It could be argued that the threat of a divorce could make their On The Run tour seem like the last time fans could potentially see them perform together, which could definitely be a narrative that would help drive ticket sales.

And doesn't it seem strange that Beyonce was able to keep her entire album a secret right up until the moment it dropped, and yet suddenly someone in her camp won't stop leaking secrets to The New York Post? Also, where is TMZ in all of this? Why hasn't the outlet, which was responsible for procuring the video that started all the divorce rumors in the first place, chimed in at all?

But with the couple's tour scheduled to end on September 13, if the rumors are true, we could soon be getting some answers to all these questions.

'Bachelorette' Star Andi Dorfman Says Nick Viall's Sex Talk Was 'Kind Of Classless'

After 18 seasons of “The Bachelor,” and 10 seasons of “The Bachelorette,” someone finally dropped the big sex bomb on the "After the Final Rose" special on Monday, July 28.

"The Bachelorette" star Andi Dorfman’s runner-up, Nick Viall, made a statement that shocked viewers across the nation, calling out Dorfman for sleeping with him in the Fantasy Suite before sending him home. A heartbroken Viall came face-to-face with Dorfman: “Knowing how in love with you I was, if you weren't in love with me, I'm just not sure why you made love with me," he said.

“I think that’s kind of below the belt,” Dorfman replied, clearly taken aback by Viall’s candid confession, which left her and the rest of the audience cringing in their seats. But, how did her fiance, Josh Murray, feel about it?

"I really don't care for Nick that much. I think it was a classless move and very disrespectful, but I feel like she handled it with as much class as possible and that's all we're doing in this situation," Murray, who proposed to Dorfman during the finale, told HuffPost Live host Caitlyn Becker on July 29. "We really could care less about that -- that's so far in the past, it's crazy. I mean, we're so much in love."

Dorfman admitted that she really just wanted to "walk off the stage" after Viall's comment, but decided to be the bigger person.

"I just felt like, again, [it was] just kind of classless. That's supposed to be private and I don't know what purpose you're accomplishing by doing that. But you know, we're going to take the high road and I'm not going to let that overshadow the happiness," she said. "We get so bogged down so much [by] negativity or this dramatic thing and at the end of the day, I'm walking away happy with a fiance, with somebody that I love, and I don't really want anything to overshadow that."

As for Murray, he doesn't think he'll be buddy-buddy with Viall anytime soon.

"He always tried to be my friend and nobody really liked him that much ... and it came to the point where he was really trying to analyze stuff too much and trying to figure out the game and I didn't want to deal with it," Murray explained. "I was always just focused on me and Andi and really nobody else. And I developed a lot of great relationships along the way with a lot of the guys, but I'll never have a relationship with Nick, that's for sure."

Warner Brothers Acquires Movie Rights To Donna Tartt's 'The Goldfinch'

Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Goldfinch is set to become a feature film, as Warner Brothers has acquired the movie rights to the book. The movie will be co-produced by Rush Hour director Brett Ratner, as well as Brad Simpson and Hunger Games producer Nina Jacobson.

The Goldfinch, Tartt’s third novel, has sold at least 1.5 million copies, despite clocking in at an intimidating 784 pages -- a length that may pose a challenge for the film adaptation. The novel, a coming-of-age story about a boy whose grief over his mother’s senseless death is assuaged by his dangerous and illegal love for a priceless painting, drew comparisons to Charles Dickens upon its publication and has continued to command critical attention and popular sales.

The Pulitzer Prize and a spot on the bestseller lists aside, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for The Goldfinch. The book failed to make the longlist for the Man Booker Prize and was recently the subject of a Vanity Fair article that questioned whether Tartt’s writing qualified as art. The Goldfinch’s major new movie deal must be a welcome dose of good news for Tartt, who famously spent 11 years writing the sprawling novel.

Let’s hope it’s also good news for fans of The Goldfinch. Though Warner Brothers also bought the movie rights to Tartt’s 1992 book, The Secret History, at the time of its publication, no film has resulted from the deal as of yet.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Explains How Batman Is Like Pussy Riot

What does Batman have in common with Pussy Riot?

That may sound like the start of a joke, but Maggie Gyllenhaal has a great answer. During a conversation about her new miniseries "The Honorable Woman" -- a "knotty, multilevel espionage tale with snaking storylines, flashbacks and revelations, startling but believable twists and unraveling secrets" -- HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski asked Gyllenhaal about the never-ending fascination with the Batman franchise, which Gyllenhaal became a part of in 2008's "The Dark Knight."

Gyllenhaal speculated that the fascination comes from the fact that Batman is "not a magical superhero -- he's a human who's created a way for himself to be able to do these superhuman things."

"Like Pussy Riot, for example," Gyllenhall said. "We look at Pussy Riot and we just go, 'My God, you're so brave. You're doing what we all wish we could do. You're standing up against something that you think is really wrong, and you're risking everything,' and that's kind of what Bruce Wayne is doing, right?"

Jasmine V Wants Domestic Abuse Victims To Know They 'Have A Voice'

Jasmine V is back.

The singer and actress recently released “That’s Me Right There” ft. Kendrick Lamar, the first track off her upcoming EP. The single is her first since 2012’s “Didn’t Mean It,” which was released accompanied by a chilling video that detailed the star’s experience with domestic violence and helped raise awareness for other victims.

The San Jose native is best known as Justin Bieber’s love interest in his video for “Baby,” and Villegas later confirmed the two had dated briefly after working together. After several years of working in music and television, the young artist was signed by Interscope Records in 2013.

The 20-year-old singer performed “That’s Me Right There” for the first time on July 19 at NuvoTV’s “Night of Comedy” in Los Angeles. On the red carpet, the singer spoke to The Huffington Post about what the new song means to her and the piece of advice she would give to anyone in an abusive relationship.

“I just shot the video [for “That’s Me Right There”] a couple of days ago, so I’m really excited about that,” Villegas told HuffPost. “I haven’t put music out in a while and I feel like this song really represents me and who I am now.”

The comedy event, featuring comedians Anjelah Johnson and John Leguizamo, was part of the National Council de La Raza’s Annual Convention. Before she stepped on stage for her performance, Villegas said her new single was a culmination of a period in which she was “trying to figure out who I was.”

After revealing that she had been in an abusive relationship for more than a year, Villegas has come forth with her story in the hopes of helping other victims speak out. The artist was honored for raising awareness against domestic abuse at Cosmopolitan For Latinas' Fun, Fearless Awards in June.

“My advice is to never hide it,” the singer said. “I hid it and I had five people around me that could’ve helped me every day. I had so many opportunities when I was alone with those people [who] I could’ve told, and I didn’t because I was so scared. My only advice would be, don’t ever feel like you don’t have a voice in any situation because you do, and don’t hide it. I feel like you have to have people to help you because, you know, at the time I didn’t see anything on TV about domestic violence so I didn’t know where to go. I kind of felt like if I told people anything they wouldn’t believe me and I didn’t have anywhere to go, so I hid it.”

The Reason Chris Pratt Stole His 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Costume Will Melt Your Heart

Chris Pratt is officially our hero, and we're not talking about his role in "Guardians of the Galaxy."

In a heartwarming interview with Panzer TV, Pratt explained that he took home pieces of his character's costume so that if the movie is a hit and he is regarded as a superhero, he can go visit sick children in the hospital. Yeah. Read this:

"I stole the jacket and some of the wardrobe so that, if this movie comes out and does what everyone hopes it can, I can follow the example of someone -- say, like, a Russell Wilson, you know -- and go visit kids," Pratt said, referring to the Seattle Seahawks quarterback who visits children's hospitals every week.

"If it was a big enough movie, to where it would mean something to a kid who’s sick in the hospital for ['Guardians' character] Peter Quill or Star-Lord to come visit them, I’ll do that," Pratt said. "I think that’s awesome, man. That would give me real meaning for this movie, you know?"

"Right now, it means high profile, cool jobs coming up, big press tour, and all the excitement of it all. But none of that really means anything. The coolest things would be that my son can one day see this and that maybe I can go affect some kids in a positive way, [and] be a good role model for them," the 35-year-old continued.

Pratt and his wife, Anna Faris, are parents to their son Jack, who was born in August 2012.

Simply a class act.

Ali Wentworth Is Ready To Talk About Postmenopausal Sex

$

Ali Wentworth has yet to go through menopause, but the 49-year-old wants to open the air waves for honest conversation about it in advance.

"I'm a big advocate of women's sexual health and my feeling is, we should discuss everything," she told HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker. "I know men that pop Viagra like breath mints and we talk about that, but then no one ever talks about women's sexuality after a certain age. It's fine to have a girl in roller skates talking about tampons, but god forbid we have a dry vagina -- mine's not dry, just for the cute camera men out there."

The comedian had been unaware of menopause's sexual effects until she saw an ad featuring "beautiful women in their sixties," with a postscript stating that they were experiencing "painful" postmenopausal sex.

"I thought 'holy crap. I had a lot of painful sex in my teens, don't tell me it's gonna happen again!'" she recounted. But more than that, it alerted her of something she'd not previously known.

"Nobody talks about it," she lamented. "I didn't know [about these effects.]"

The mother of two -- and wife to George Stephanopoulos -- said she believes that, as her character in the Nancy Meyers film "It's Complicated" declared, if you don't keep having sex, "it" will close up.

When asked if she had ever dreamed she'd have the opportunity to talk lady parts opposite the legendary Meryl Streep, her co-star in the film, she admitted that the excitement wasn't lost on her.

"I hoped!" she said. "One can only hope!"

But Wentworth insists her vajayay-talk didn't end with Streep.

"I've talked vaginas with a great many Oscar winners," she added. "It breaks the ice at a cocktail party."

Stanley Kubrick's Estate Still Has All Of The Orgy Masks From 'Eyes Wide Shut' Hanging In Its Halls

$

0
"Eyes Wide Shut," which premiered 15 years ago this month, has made its mark as not just Kubrick's final film, but one that refused its potential to legitimize the NC-17 rating and somehow managed to make us feel sorry for Tom Cruise. After a record-breaking production period, Kubrick sent the studio a final cut, dying less than a week later. For the "Eyes Wide Shut" anniversary, Warner Brothers EVP Jeff Baker visited Kubrick's estate to work on a documentary* about the director who Hollywood had begun to understand as a recluse.

"He was just shy with the press," Baker said to HuffPost Entertainment, reflecting on his time spent with Kubrick's children and widow Christiane Kubrick. "He had an unusual situation because of the size and scope of his estate. All of his pre- and post-production took place in that estate ... and he often filmed near his home."

That home, mind you, is decorated with paintings featured in Cruise and Nicole Kidman's apartment in the film -- many of which are the work of Christiane -- and includes a wall decorated with many of the venetian masks worn during the indelible orgy scene. "It's interesting that he not only brought those props home, but wanted them hung up in his home," Baker said.

eyeswide

Another unique thing Baker noted is Kubrick's involvement in the downstream marketing of the film. Kubrick was actively involved in developing campaigns for theatrical releases and home entertainment. In terms of the latter, "Eyes Wide Shut" has done exceedingly well, selling over $3.5 million copies worldwide. "Maybe not compared to today with a film like 'Frozen,'" Baker said. "But for a film that’s 15 years old and grew up in the VHS days we’ve had good success."

"I think the whole idea from Stanley was to tantalize a little bit and a little bit and a little bit," Nancy Kirkpatrick, the spokeswoman for the film, told the L.A. Times. "It's a smart strategy; so dramatic. A little bit gives you a lot."

Despite the film's clever marketing, it did not perform exceedingly well at the box office -- a fact that has been partially attributed to the public's waiting to learn the fate of John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife Caroline, who died in a plane crash on opening weekend. Yet, Baker is hesitant to signal that as an unusual event in terms of its impact on sales. "I wouldn't say 'Eyes Wide Shut' is unique in that regard," he said. "It's happened many times in history."

He further emphasized how unusual it was for a director / producer to be part of that process. "He was just very protective over the films that he produced and directed to the point where he didn’t want to hand it off to the studio," he said.

That element of Kubrick's personality was in full force during "Eyes Wide Shut," a reality that is best evidenced by the fact that the principle photography extended over two years. Cruise and Kidman signed open contracts for their work, originally expected to last six months. Instead, the couple spent 15 months filming (which, as Vanity Fair notes, is the Guiness World Record for the longest continual film shoot).

Though few actors have spoken out about the rigor of their work on set, it has become clear that Kubrick demanded perfection. Baker recounted one scene between Cruise and Sydney Pollack that took three weeks to film and required over 200 takes. "He was obsessed with getting the right shot," Baker said. Most directors are, but it was different with Kubrick. Vanity Fair further recalls that he sent a designer to Manhattan in order to ensure the Greenwich Village streets were recreated to be precisely the same size.

In all of that protective perfectionism, Warner Brothers knew that Kubrick would never have wanted his final cut altered to avoid an R rating. And based on the fact that he mounted the venetian masks on the walls of his estate, we can at least assumed the orgy scene was important to him.

"Obscuring the scene to make it fit an R-rating was not something Kubrick wanted. He was vehemently opposed to it," Baker said. Yet, when they received an NC-17 designation from the MPAA, Warner Brothers choose to digitally alter the masked orgy scene, adding in figures to obscure various sexual acts. "Clearly from a commercial and monetization perspective, it would limit the number of theaters that would distribute it and the number of people that would see it if it did have that harsher rating."

*Warner Brothers will release the Kubrick documentary along with a box set of his work by the end of the year. It will likely contain an NC-17 cut of "Eyes Wide Shut."

Katy Perry Addresses Cultural Appropriation Accusations, But Just Seems Really Annoyed

$

It's hard not to like Katy Perry: she's bubbly, endearing and just, well, incredibly likable. But then she does things like that Geisha-inspired performance of "Unconditionally" at the American Music Awards. Each night of her Prismatic tour also features dancing mummies with big butts (which have also been viewed as racist by some critics).

But as Perry explains in her August 2014 Rolling Stone cover story, it's not that she's trying to offend anyone, it just kind of happens that people get offended.

"As far as the mummy thing, I based it on plastic surgery," told Rolling Stone. "Look at someone like Kim Kardashian or Ice-T's wife, Coco. Those girls aren't African-American. But it's actually a representation of our culture wanting to be plastic, and that's why there's bandages and it's mummies. I thought that would really correlate well together … It came from an honest place. If there was any inkling of anything bad, then it wouldn't be there, because I'm very sensitive to people."

And as for accusations of cultural appropriation, Perry is apparently aware that it's "increasingly uncool," as Rolling Stone describes it, but she's not really happy about it.

"I guess I'll just stick to baseball and hot dogs, and that's it," she told the magazine. "I know that's a quote that's gonna come to fuck me in the ass, but can't you appreciate a culture? I guess, like, everybody has to stay in their lane? I don't know."

Katy, it's okay, no one is coming after you for the floating poop emoji that's part of your show, so it doesn't have to be just baseballs and hot dogs.

Under the handle @waverider_, the 17-year-old New Zealander has amassed more than 1.5 million Instagram followers, largely by riffing on iconic celebrity portraits.

He's covered Miley Cyrus' infamous wrecking ball to Kim Kardashian's Vegas Magazine cover. But any target is seemingly fair game -- even wearing "oversize sweaters."

Liam told The Huffington Post he first started with the celebrity riffs after dressing up like the Little Mermaid. "The photo was a success and really seemed to entertain people," he said. "So I decided to keep doing that."

Despite his apparent popularity, Martin, who describes himself as "very weird and open," is an outspoken advocate against online bullying.

"Doing what I do generates a backlash of negative comments," he told HuffPost. "People need to be careful about what they say to others and embrace difference, as opposed to trying to destroy it."

In a five-minute YouTube video posted last year, Liam spoke out against bullying, self harm and suicide, telling Buzzfeed he hopes to help people feel more comfortable in their own skin.

'Big Bang Theory' Contract Negotiations Have Officially Delayed Season 8

The Bazinga is officially on us.

CBS' continued failure to reach contract agreements with the stars of "The Big Bang Theory" is officially delaying the start of production for Season 8, reports E! News.

In a statement, "TBBT's" production company, Warner Bros. TV, said, "Due to ongoing contract negotiations, production on The Big Bang Theory -- which was originally scheduled to begin today (July 30) -- has been postponed."

The stars of the show, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar, are reportedly all seeking substantial raises, with Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco-Sweeting looking for something in the $1 million per episode range.

CBS, who has already renewed the series through Season 10, recently told reporters that they were confident an agreement could be met, with Chairman of Entertainment Nina Tassler saying, "These deals manage to get done somehow miraculously year after year," according to Access Hollywood.

If only CBS had a real Sheldon Cooper do the negotiations. His roommate agreement contract is pretty ironclad.

The good news is that despite the production delay, the Season 8 premiere date hasn't been pushed back ... yet, anyway.

Ali Wentworth Would Happily Co-Host 'The View': I'll Talk 'Vaginas Until The Cows Come Home'

Producers of "The View," take note: we know someone who'd be happy to join your crew, and her name's Ali Wentworth.

"Look, I'd be happy to do it if they offered it to me," the comedic actress told HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker in an interview Tuesday. "Can you imagine? And they should, because I will talk about vaginas until the cows come home. And I used to guest host a lot, and I had such a great time doing it. So yes, I would do 'The View.'"

While Wentworth would gladly take a seat at the infamous round table next to the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell, she admitted that there are others whom she finds more suited for the opportunity.

"I think I would've been the right choice in the last go-round, but I think they need a conservative," she said. "I read at one point that they were considering Sarah Palin and I thought, 'Well, that would be interesting.' Good TV. But I just think Rosie O'Donnell would chew her up like a biscuit, but that's what you want in television."

Why Giving Up Became The Most Liberating Thing 'OITNB' Star Uzo Aduba Ever Did

Giving up turned out to be the most liberating thing Uzo Aduba ever did.

The actress skyrocketed to fame last year for playing fan favorite Crazy Eyes on "Orange Is The New Black," but the day she got the call that she was hired was one of the lowest she'd ever experienced. In fact, just hours before, she had decided to leave acting behind for good.

"I had quit the day I got this job [on 'Orange']. It was the first time in my entire time pursuing this, in my heart and in my mind, that I actually was like, 'We need to hang this up,'" Aduba told HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill on Wednesday.

Coming from an immigrant family, Aduba felt her failure to book roles in film and television meant she wasn't honoring her mother's journey to America, and she was beaten to submission by the rejection that came at her from all sides.

"It was so hard to hear all these nos -- no, no, no and no again," she said. "I just thought, 'This is not for me.'"

The final straw came when she got lost on her way to an audition and arrived 20 minutes late. She took that as a sign.

"I thought this is God, the universe, telling me, 'This is not for you.' I was telling myself, 'Okay, I received the message. I hear you. If you can find a way to direct me to what it is that I'm meant to do, I will go. I will go,'" she said. "I was at peace about it: Now I know I'm going to live my life on purpose."

When she got home, she received the phone call that changed her life forever -- she'd won a part in the cultural phenomenon that took her from just another actress to an award-winning star.

As Oprah Winfrey has said, sometimes success is all about surrendering to a power beyond your control.
