Joseph Gordon-Levitt Discusses Late Brother's Death In New Q&A

As a younger child, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was used to competing with his older brother.

"Being the second child, at first, at least to me, seemed really difficult because my brother, Dan, was six and a half years older than I was ... and that meant he was always better at everything, whether it was a sport or a video game, anything," Gordon-Levitt said in a video posted to his HitRECord YouTube channel Thursday, June 5. "He could do it better than I could. That was really hard for me because I was competitive, but, then again, maybe it drove me in a way to try harder."

The actor looked up to his brother when it came to life's milestones, because Dan, he said, did everything first.

"He also died first," Gordon-Levitt said. "So, I have that as an example, in a way. And, frankly, it makes it less scary in a way, too, knowing that he's done it. 'Cause all the big things that I ever had to do, he did 'em first. So, that's what it's like being second."

Dan, otherwise known as "Burning Dan" because of his work as a fire-spinning artist, died in 2010.

In January, Gordon-Levitt paid tribute to his late brother during a Q&A session after a screening of "HitRECord on TV" at the Sundance Film Festival. The Gordon-Levitt siblings co-founded HitRECord, an Internet production company.

"What Dan was all about was getting people to try something that they didn’t think they could do," he said, per Entertainment Weekly. Holding back tears, he added: "And when he could get people … to do that, that was his … I’m sorry … that was his favorite. And it didn’t matter to him so much how it turned out."

'Stepmom' Star Jena Malone Is All Grown Up

Former teenage star Jena Malone proves she's all grown up in an exclusive musical performance for the Just Jared Spotlight series.

The 29-year-old actress rose to fame in her youth, starring in hits like “Stepmom,” alongside Julia Roberts, and cult-favorite “Donnie Darko,” as the love interest of the then fresh-faced Jake Gyllenhaal.

After a foray into the world of experimental music, Malone recently returned to the limelight in her role as Johanna Mason in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” She has also drawn media attention as a daring style icon and body confidence advocate.

Malone’s most recent mainstream successes may have come from her work in film, but the multi-talented star has no plans to leave her love of music behind. She performs with Lem Jay Ignacio as part of the band The Shoe, which released its debut album earlier this week.

“When you’re going through something that’s a little bit harder, you kind of want to listen to something that makes you feel like everything’s gonna be okay or that you kind of identify with," Malone said of the band's music in her Just Jared video.

Having a wide variety of passions may keep the star busy, but Malone doesn't see her acting and music work as completely separate entities. “All I know is before I step on set I’m a giant bundle of nerves … And I feel the same way before I step on stage,” she told Elle in a feature about the band’s debut album. “It is the beginning of transformation. And then it’s pure blind glory.”

Well, 50 Cent has an interesting explanation for the terrible first pitch he threw at the Pirates-Mets game last Tuesday night, May 27: excessive masturbation.

The rapper offered the curious excuse during an "Ask Me Anything" interview on Reddit earlier this week. In response to a reader who asked what happened, he said, "I have a skeletal muscle injury on my left shoulder from excessive masturbation so take it easy lol."

We're reasonably sure he's kidding, though it would reaffirm his status as a "baller."

Just in case you missed his pitch the first time around, here it is on repeat:

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil is only ONE. WEEK. AWAY. If for some strange reason you're not excited yet, that's okay, just watch this video.

It's the latest, longest, and most ambitious in Beats by Dre's series of ads featuring some of the world's top athletes. This special World Cup ad opens with Brazil's superstar striker Neymar Jr. getting an inspirational pep talk from his father, Neymar da Silva Sr. Afterwards, Neymar Jr. puts on his headphones, the music kicks in ( "Jungle" by X Ambassadors & Jamie N Commons), and a mesmerizing montage of big-name footballers performing various pre-game rituals begins.

AdWeek sums it up:

Among the other stars featured here: Spain's Fabregas, who kisses the ring his girlfriend gave him exactly four times; Uruguay's Luis Suarez, who kisses the tattoo on his wrist of his son and daughter's names; and Mexico's Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, who prays on his knees as his father taught him.

(The United States' own Jozy Altidore also makes an appearance, as does Netherlands's Robin Van Persie, England's Daniel Sturridge, France's Bacaray Sagna and Blaise Matudi, and Germany's Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Gotze.)

The video, called "The Game Before The Game," stars some very famous non-footballers as well, including LeBron James, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Rafaella Beckran (Neymar Jr.'s sister), Serena Williams, Sydney Leroux, and some of this year's World Cup pundits: Thierry Henry, Rio Ferdinand, and ESPN's Stuart Scott.

TLC Slams Rihanna For Putting Her Naked Body On Display

Rihanna is pushing back against traditional views of how a woman should display her body, and iconic '90s girl group TLC is not having it.

Members Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas appeared on Australia's Channel 7 show "Sunrise" on Friday, June 6, and expressed their thoughts about the pop star.

"Every time I see you, you don't have to be naked," T-Boz said.

The slam comes just after Rihanna made waves by showing up to receive her Fashion Icon Award at the CFDA Awards in a glittery sheer dress. In May, she also posed confidently nude for Lui magazine and shared images from the shoot via her since deleted Instagram account.

rihanna sheer dress

“If I’m wearing a top, I don’t wear a bra. If I’m wearing a bra, I just wear a bra," Rihanna told Vogue in February about her fashion philosophy.

"It's hard for us to say anything because any time we do, they say, 'Oh, TLC must be jealous,'" T-Boz said in the Sunrise interview. "But I call a spade a spade."

"We became the biggest girl selling group of all time with our clothes on, and that says a lot," Chilli added.

Rihanna made her view of the group's criticism clear when, in response, she changed her Twitter background to a topless picture of TLC and issued a sublime collection of subtweets:

Farrah Abraham Will Make Your Head Hurt, Especially When She Talks About Her 'Sex Tape'

$

0
Farrah Abraham first found fame after becoming MTV's poster child for teen pregnancy and dysfunctional families on "Teen Mom." The reality star upped the ante on her notoriety when she starred in one of the most explicit "celebrity sex tapes" (more accurately described as a pornographic movie featuring a famous person) ever released.

Now, Abraham has become a novelist. The first book in an erotic trilogy based on her experiences in the adult entertainment world, titled "In the Making (Celebrity Sex Tape)," is set for release in July. "In the Making" is more readable than, say, "Fifty Shades Of Grey," but it's not without some issues. For instance, it's clear that neither Abraham, nor her protagonist, Fallon Opal, seem to comprehend what a sex tape actually is.

Sitting down with the 22-year-old, it's hard to get a straight answer about anything. She talks in circles and seems to have built up a protective wall around herself that almost emanates trashy talk show cliches ("You don't know me!").

The book has been touted by its publisher, Ellora’s Cave, as based on Abraham's experiences in the adult industry. Abraham , however, is quick to claim the similarities between her and Fallon end there.

"Yes, I had a sex tape, the book talks about sex tapes, but Fallon Opal is way different. The story is way different," she explained in a recent interview with The Huffington Post. Abraham said Opal is "way different" than herself because the character doesn't have a child and didn't start out as a reality star. Except she did: Fallon gets her start on reality television, a fact Abraham has seemingly forgotten about.

Discrepancies like that might make it hard for some to believe that Abraham possesses the talent and creativity necessary to even craft a story that wasn't just a page ripped out of her own diary (with some names changed for legal reasons). She says otherwise. She's also of the opinion that the full-length, X-rated movie released by Vivid Entertainment isn't your regular run-of-the-mill porn movie. The crux of the disparity, it seems, is in how she defines a "celebrity sex tape" and a commercial pornographic video.

"I think people purposely don't know how to separate what a celebrity sex tape is and a regular porn. I mean, I have wonderful friends who are in the adult industry, they make porn for a living. That's what they always do. Like, payment is different. Like, living your life is different. Taking care of yourself. Everything is different," she explained.

What's more, Abraham said with a traditional porn movie, "many people won't ever see it, they won't ever know about it. But, for a celebrity sex tape, as we all are aware of, millions of people will watch it and you get way more [backlash]. And you are more known for it. And there is just a more compelling something."

She continued: "A celebrity sex tape to me, outshines any other porn star, and any other person who makes porn. Lots of my friends make sex tapes. They can't say, 'Oh my God, I made a celebrity sex tape,' and nobody even knows about it. So there's a huge difference. And that's just what society made of it. It's not me, I don't make these definitions, it's just obvious."

Or not really: More people would likely be inclined to agree that true sex tapes were filmed in an amateur way and were not initially created for public distribution. Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian's video-taped dalliances were filmed as private moments in their personal lives well in advance of them ever being even a blip on the public's radar. What ended up being released in 2004 as "1 Night In Paris," was filmed in 2001, and wasn't leaked until 2007; "Kim Kardashian, Superstar" was shot a full three years prior to when it leaked -- back when she was still organizing closets for the likes of Hilton. Both of these women claim their tapes were released without their permission, and while that has been contested, it's obvious their tapes were at, one point, meant solely for personal use.

That's what's missing from Abraham's "Farrah Superstar, Backdoor Teen Mom." Abraham's X-rated footage gives off the impression that it was shot by professionals for public consumption. Her co-star is James Deen, the hottest professional male porn star in the adult entertainment industry. (Deen, by the way, went on record to say that he was hired to have sex with Abraham on camera, and that he never agreed to play along with the idea that they were ever dating. In his words, they shot a "porno.")

When asked how she began her alleged relationship with Deen, she declined to answer. "I'm not going to be talking about certain people." And whether she's still in touch with him? "I personally don't [speak to him] because of some of the comments he's made to the press that weren't true," she said. Abraham has never explained how she and Deen met, but she still maintain's that she was in a relationship with the actor when they shot their explicit video.

"I personally was [in the relationship]," she explained. "I can only say what I personally am, and what I was under the belief of. I can't really vouch for anyone else or anything."

Beyond the sex tape/porn video, Abraham is full of other contradictions, too. She rejects the label of porn star, yet she has fully embraced all of the businesses that supplement the incomes of adult entertainers, including her own sex toy line, appearances at strip clubs and porn conventions, and now her own erotic trilogy.

When asked if she realizes that these projects don't help distance her from such a label, she said, "I'll just let people think what they would like to think and that's fine, because it really doesn't infringe upon my life. I just know I don't go around and have sex and make more movies."

While the former MTV reality star hasn't made any more adult films beyond her romp with Deen (a second video consisting of footage from the same shoot was also released following the success of "Backdoor Teen Mom"), she has promoted them. And claimed that she was raped while doing so.

Abraham told In Touch that she was "drugged and raped more than once," at gigs she booked to promote the tape. Abraham has since received a cease and desist letter from Vivid regarding her confidentiality agreement and her claims that she was sexually assaulted.

When asked about the assault, Abraham said, "I mean I personally would not name names and other things I had to deal with after that article came out I probably shouldn't be talking about it. But, like, there's a lot of that. That goes on in clubs and a lot of celebrities deal with things like that. And that's really sad."

Up next for Abraham following the release of her erotic trilogy, a Christian parenting book.

'Reading Rainbow' Better Than 'Star Trek'? LeVar Burton Thinks So

Beam me up, Scotty! A former "Star Trek" cast member is dissing his intergalactic roots.

LeVar Burton, the man who's been blowing up the Internet lately with his wildly successful Kickstarter campaign to bring back "Reading Rainbow" sat down with Huffpost Live to relive some of the most memorable experiences of his career and his comments might get him in trouble with more than a few Trekkies.

Burton, who's raised over $3 million in donations for the online revival of his literacy program let slip that the children's show was easily his favorite job on TV. "Really, I feel that being the host of 'Reading Rainbow' is the best gig I've ever had," Burton said. For a man that's been a part of two iconic TV series -- he was the chief engineer of the Enterprise in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and played Kunta Kinte in the "Roots" miniseries -- that's a pretty loaded statement. But Burton revealed that being the host of the popular kid's show might just be his life's calling.

"For me, 'Reading Rainbow' is more than just a job," Burton said. "It's my passion. It's really, I feel like in large measure, it's what I was meant to do." Burton explained it was the prospect of working with a powerful medium like TV to both entertain and educate young people that really appealed to him when he was first approached for the job. And while the show has certainly benefited school kids, the host admitted there are some definite perks that come with what he does.

"Over the 25-plus years we were in production I learned how to fly a plane, I learned how to scuba dive, we went hot air ballooning, I had some fantastic adventures," Burton said.

With the show's comeback basically a sure thing at this point, we're sure Burton will be going on even more adventures when "Reading Rainbow" makes its online debut.

Thought Hawaii Couldn't Get Better? Now You Can Borrow A Shelter Dog In Paradise

$

About twice a week, a visitor to the lush Hawaiian paradise of Kauai island will fall in love -- with a shelter dog, who's been borrowed from the local rescue group for a tropical outing. And if things go especially well, it might end with a plane ride to the mainland.

"Currently, we have Kauai Humane Society alumni residing in more than 25 states and four Canadian provinces," says Penny Cistaro, spokesperson for the group. "We estimate that more than 100 dogs have found their new loving home as a result of a field trip."

This innovative program, called "Shelter Dogs on Field Trips", has been around for some two years now. Tourists missing their pets, as well as locals who want a furry friend for an excursion, are encouraged to pick up a specially-vetted KHS dog. Then away they go, for what sounds like about the most idyllic experience around.

The main goal of the program is for people "to enjoy the natural beauty of our lovely Garden Island and to get their dog fix by taking along one of our shelter dogs on their adventure," says Cistaro. For the dogs, the benefits include getting to hike, run on the beach, swim in the ocean "and being around groups of people who give the dogs lots of love and attention."

Along all those lines, the shelter has a drool-worthy list of suggested destinations: several dog-friendly beaches, hiking trails, parks, and this incredible mountain range.

"The response from visitors and locals alike is overwhelmingly positive. People love the opportunity to take a field trip with a shelter dog," Cistaro says. "Many visitors actually return to KHS to do a second or third field trip during their vacation and tell us that it was the best part of their trip."

Borrowers -- who leave phone numbers and credit cards, to ensure they won't abscond with the pups -- are provided with water, bags, towels and all kinds of other paraphernalia to make the experience even better.

Driving home that the ultimate aim here is getting pets out of the shelter on a permanent basis, in or out of Hawaii, the field tripping dogs are outfitted with "adopt me" vests.

And let's say you're the one who decides to adopt: KHS can help you with the logistics of getting your new pet home, too, wherever that may be. Because for a shelter pet, endless summer is great. But a family is even better.

Find more details about the Kauai Humane Society dog borrowing program here.

Not a dog person? We find that improbable -- but, in case it's true, KHS also has cats who wear leis, need homes!

Singer-songwriter Bea Miller has an important message: Pretty soon, today's teenagers will run the planet.

The former "X Factor USA" contestant dropped by HuffPost Live to chat about her new EP, "Young Blood," and said the music is important to her because of the empowering message to young people.

"I wanted to get the message across that teenagers -- basically, we're going to take over the world at some point, because we're going to be the adults in the future, and I wanted to kind of empower that and say we are in charge of what happens next," she said.

But that doesn't mean her songs ignore the challenges of being a teenager.

"I also wanted to be relatable in the sense that I could talk about some of the darker parts of being a teenager, too, and growing up," she said. "I thought it was really important to kind of connect with lighter and darker sides."

Keith Urban Thankful For Nicole Kidman, And His Sobriety

Meeting Nicole Kidman saved Keith Urban's life.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the "Cop Car" singer said getting together with Kidman, now his wife of eight years, was integral to his overcoming a variety of addictions.

"Everything [was] about to come undone," he said of his situation early on in their relationship. "I [was] already in a bit of trouble."

Just a short time later, Kidman organized an intervention for the country singer, who then successfully completed a rehabilitation program.

"Meeting Nic and falling in love with Nic and starting a relationship with Nic became, I realize now in hindsight, my sobriety," Urban said. "That was how I was able to keep it together."

"I have a wife who is just from another planet. She is so celestial," he added. "I say that I was born into her. That is the best way I can describe how I feel about her and us ... It means that I felt like I was just sitting dormant, and she came along and I came to life. I was born into her, so who I am now was waiting the whole time."

The "American Idol" judge is not the only one who has affectionate words to say about his spouse. Kidman, the Oscar-winning actress whose film "Grace of Monaco," recently premiered at Cannes Film Festival, told the Associated Press: "I am married to a prince. A country prince."

Kidman wed Urban in 2006, six years after the actress ended her 11-year marriage to Tom Cruise. The couple splits their time between Sydney, Australia, and Nashville, Tennessee.

The Celebrities Who Made Our Best Dressed List This Week Have Style In Spades

This week, there were two major events that inspired some pretty amazing fashion moments: The CFDA Awards and the U.K Glamour Women of the Year Awards.

And let's just say, more than a few celebs turned it on for these special evenings. Liya Kebede stunned in a white skirt and top combo at the CFDAs (a look that could easily be copied), while Rochelle Humes proved that less is more in a classic red dress in London.

Check out our picks for best-dressed of the week and let us know if you agree.

Liya Kebede in Wes Gordon

liya

This was by far our most favorite look from the CFDA Awards. The model's classic white blouse was perfectly paired with a patterned skirt and serves as inspiration for the warmer months ahead -- after all, what woman doesn't own a crisp white shirt? Not only does Kebede look fresh and clean, but also so effortless.

Solange Knowles in Calvin Klein

solange

Bey's little sister channeled Diana Ross in this slinky metallic dress and we couldn't get enough. Her natural hair and bright pink lip color add necessary drama to her look and made it one of the standouts of the night.

Jaime King in Calvin Klein

king

This gown was even more stunning in person with all the fringe detail and the sheer panelling. We love how King took something as trendy as fringe and made it look so classic.

Shailene Woodley in Ralph Lauren

shailene

Now this is the Shailene we want to see. Her striking canary yellow dress really pops against her tanned skin, while the strapless neckline is the perfect way to show off her short 'do. And of course, a peplum is always extremely flattering.

Chrissy Teigen in Rachel Roy

chrissy

Babe alert! Even totally covered up, the Sports Illustrated model just oozes sex appeal. This fitted frock and fire engine red blazer caught our attention because of the bright hue -- okay and maybe those legs also had something to do with it.

Alexa Chung in Christian Dior

alexa

We were so happy to see Chung branching out and trying a new look. This dress with the embroidered top is a little more delicate than her usual style, but we love it. And those pearl embellished shoes are fantastic -- such a great way to incorporate one of the biggest trends of the season into her outfit.

Taylor Schilling in Peter Pilotto

taylor

Every time we see Schilling in a jaw-dropping dress it surprises us, as we always picture her in the prison jumpsuit she wears on "Orange Is the New Black." This just goes to show that Schilling looks amazing in anything.

Rochelle Humes in Jasper Conran

rochelle

The British singer wore a perfectly tailored simple dress and the results were spectacular. The rich red hue is captivating, as are her ruby lips.

Hollywood Disappoints Us This Week On The Worst Dressed List

Though we saw some pretty amazing looks this week on the best-dressed list, not all stars hit it out of the park.

A few celebs walked the red carpet in outfits that left us with our jaws on the floor -- and not in a good way. Naomi Campbell's feather and fringe dress was too over-the-top, while Rihanna's ill-fitting trousers had us questioning her recent honor at the CFDAs.

Check out our picks for the worst-dressed of the week and let us know if you agree.

Naomi Campbell

naomi

Not even Naomi Campbell can make this look work. The feathers, fringe and massive gold choker are way too much.

Rihanna

rihanna

The color is doing nothing for her complexion and those cargo pants desperately need to be tailored. But every fashion icon is entitled to a flop, right?

Emily VanCamp

emily

The sad part about this outfit is, had she ditched the bell sleeves, this easily could have been on the best-dressed list.

Laura Whitmore

laura

One wrong move with a slit like that and you're headed for a wardrobe malfunction. And if that isn't bad enough, the shoes cut her leg off in a bad spot, making her look shorter.

Amanda Seyfried

amanda

We want to love this ensemble, but something is off. Maybe it's the metallic gold underlay peeking through the lace or perhaps it's the thick black belt. One way or another, something isn't adding up.

Daisy Lowe

daisy

Oy, those pants. The fabric, length, cut and color of them is wildly unflattering.

Beth Behrs

beth

Even the "2 Broke Girls" star doesn't look happy to be in this gown. Not only does the dress overwhelm her, but the head-to-toe embellishments make it look too youthful.
