Chris Rock Makes Fun Of Sam Champion's High School Yearbook Photo

Chris Rock visited “Good Morning America” Wednesday, and keeping with promotional images for his new movie "Grown Ups 2," Rock took aim at weatherman Sam Champion's high school yearbook photo.

"Sam looks like he's on the run, like this whole gig is just to hide the crime. He's hiding out in New York as a weatherman -- we don't know he killed some people in Missouri. He's not even gay!" Rock joked, as the entire "GMA" crew cracked up.

Though we’re almost positive Champion is not a murderer, one of his high school friends revealed a different secret to ABC: Champion was named “Best boogier” in high school.

Fans tweeted saying they thought the exchange was hilarious, and Champion retweeted a viewer who said he couldn't stop laughing.

"GMA" airs weekdays at 7 a.m. ET on ABC.

WWE Star Settles Divorce

WWE superstar Randy Orton has settled his divorce from wife Samantha Speno, according to TMZ. The pair, who have one daughter together, married in 2007 and separated in 2012.

According to the report, Orton will retain several six-figure bank accounts, his gun collection, his jewelry and one of the couple's houses in addition to all rights, title and interest in his WWE contract, among other assets. His ex will receive a house, one large bank account and her jewelry. She has also been granted legal and physical custody of their daughter, with Orton paying child support and maintaining visitation rights.

Although Orton and his ex-wife seemed to settle their split without much tabloid attention, that isn't the case for all WWE athletes. Just last year, John Cena filed for divorce from his wife amidst claims that he was cheating, to much fanfare. The two eventually settled their split after a messy and public battle.

See The REAL Iron Throne

The quest for the Iron Throne is what HBO's "Game of Thrones" is all about. The seat of kings in the Seven Kingdoms has become iconic since the show's debut season, which HBO promoted with this image of Ned Stark sitting on the Iron Throne.

But George R.R. Martin, the author of the "A Song Of Ice and Fire" series upon which the smash-hit cable series is based, has spoken out on his Live Journal blog, writing that the throne in the HBO series is smaller and less intimidating than what he envisioned.

"The HBO Iron Throne is THE Iron Throne, and always will be ... And, hell, in some ways the HBO throne is more real than mine could ever be. They've actually MADE theirs ... The HBO throne has become iconic. And well it might. It's a terrific design, and it has served the show very well ... Everyone knows it. I love it ... And yet, and yet ... it's still not right. It's not the Iron Throne I see when I'm working on 'The Winds of Winter' [the upcoming sixth novel in the 'Song' series]. It's not the Iron Throne I want my readers to see. The way the throne is described in the books ... HUGE, hulking, black and twisted, with the steep iron stairs in front, the high seat from which the king looks DOWN on everyone in the court ... my throne is a hunched beast looming over the throne room, ugly and assymetric [sic] ..."

There is a rendering that Martin is fond of, however: Marc Simonetti's drawing for the upcoming concordance, "The World of Ice and Fire."

Check it out here:

real iron throne

Though Martin noted this is "not a final version," this certainly deters fans from purchasing the $30,000 life-size Iron Throne replica, available from HBO. (As of April, a corporate affairs spokesperson for the company told Entertainment Weekly they hadn't sold any yet.)

'Gladiator' Sequel Was To Be Called 'Christ Killer'

0
0

So, about that "Gladiator" sequel that's been in the works for, oh, 12 years? Some odd new details have emerged regarding its progress -- or lack thereof.

It turns out the script Russell Crowe commissioned rocker Nick Cave to write in 2009 -- which was completed and subsequently rejected by the studios -- took some wild turns, as Cave revealed during a recent episode of the podcast "WTF With Marc Maron."

Cave said Crowe "eventually rang me up and asked if I wanted to write 'Gladiator 2,' and for someone who had only written one film script ['Ghosts... of the Civil Dead'], it was quite an ask." While his lack of experience may have served as the initial hurdle, Cave found a bigger one: "Hey, Russell, didn't you die in 'Gladiator 1'?" he asked. To which Crowe replied, "Yeah, you sort that out."

What followed was something called "Christ Killer," a resuscitation of the first "Gladiator" that attempted to make Maximus immortal and include a Jesus character. In Cave's proposed sequel, Crowe's character "goes down to purgatory and is sent down by the gods, who are dying in heaven because there's this one god, there's this Christ character, down on Earth who is gaining popularity and so the many gods are dying so they send Gladiator back to kill Christ and his followers."

The plot gets more complicated, but what's more interesting is the conflicting reactions to the script that have been reported. Cave said on "WTF" that Crowe nixed the effort immediately with a simple, "Don't like it, mate." But in 2009, The Guardian reported that Crowe and director Ridley Scott were attempting to work with Cave's product, with Scott reportedly saying the "storytelling works brilliantly."

Still, Cave, who went on to pen the 2012 Shia LaBeouf vehicle "Lawless," told Maron he knew the script wouldn't be made, despite it being a "stone-cold masterpiece."

Miley Cyrus Has So Much Money, She's Wearing It As Clothes Now

Miley Cyrus must be a big fan of Rihanna, because she's taken her song "Pour It Up" ("All I see is dollar signs") very, very literally.

Cyrus was spotted with her mother Tish at Trader Joe's yesterday and while we simpletons wear jeans and a T-shirt when we go grocery shopping, Miley opted for a tiny little crop top and a very small mini skirt made out of money.

Sure, the outfit wasn't actually made of dollar bills weaved together but rather an imprint of $1s and $5s. But still... Does Miley Have so much dough on her hands right now that she's got spare to wear!?

Either that, or Miley's being socially conscience and wanted to send a message about those who cannot afford reasonably priced produce. Something about food stamps, right Miley?

We'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

John Farr: On His Birthday, Giving Thanks for Hanks

0
0

With nary a ripple, Tom Hanks turned 57 this past week.

And though he hasn't made a truly great film other than Toy Story 3 in quite a few years (we can debate Cloud Atlas), he is still eminently bankable and his star shines bright.

Did I say bankable? Let me amend that. He is in fact ranked the top star in terms of all-time box office revenue. Few early on would have predicted he'd attain this heady distinction, Hanks least of all.

He has been described as today's Jimmy Stewart. I think that's apt. He shares Stewart's everyman folksiness and approachability, a quality that's harder to project effectively than one might think. You can't deny there's something powerfully familiar -- and reassuring-about both actors on-screen.

They are us.

Reportedly, both Stewart and Hanks were painfully shy and awkward as children, but unlike his predecessor, Tom did not get the chance to go to Princeton and contemplate a career in architecture.

His was a decidedly middle-class, somewhat confused upbringing, with his parents, a cook and hospital worker, divorcing early and dividing up their children between them.

Tom studied theatre in college, but never went on to study formally at say, the Actor's Studio. Instead he participated in community theatre, developing his skills through watching and doing and in the process, learning all the rope of stage production.

Landing in New York City, he distinguished himself in some Off-Broadway work before breaking through in a short-lived 1980 TV series called Bosom Buddies, playing a young man forced to cross-dress to live in an affordable all-female hotel.

I still remember my first sight of Tom Hanks on that show, in a dress, wig and make-up. Though Buddies was admired by some critics, I turned the channel...and the show itself lasted two seasons.

Then a 1982 guest spot on Happy Days brought him to the attention of Ron Howard, who was casting his third film, Splash (1984), about a young man who falls for a mermaid. The film was a hit, and so was Tom.

But could he do serious parts? The '90s gave us the answer. In 1995, Hanks became the first (and only) actor since Spencer Tracy to win two consecutive Best Actor Oscars -- both for non-comedic roles.

(A quick note here on 1994's Forrest Gump, Hanks's second Oscar, and for many his signature role. Many will be outraged to find this title not on my favorites list below. This movie seems to polarize people -- either you adore it, or you don't. I thought it was pure whimsy -- sometimes charming, other times forced. That said, no one else could have played the character so well).

When his many legions of fans consider his success, I'm certain there's a consistent thought running through their heads: it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Happy Birthday, Tom.

Now, here's my personal Hanks list:

Big (1988)- Tom plays a boy trapped in a young man's body who makes good in a grown-up world. Hanks is wonderful in this enduring charmer from Penny Marshall, co-starring Elizabeth Perkins and Rober Loggia. Indelible image: Tom spits out the caviar.

A League Of Their Own (1992)- Tom and Penny Marshall reunite in this colorful tale of an all-women baseball league that earned particular prominence during World War 2. Tom is the drunken manager of one team, and he brings both humor and pathos to what was an unusual role for him. Also look for Madonna as a member of the team. Batter up!

Philadelphia (1993)- Tom cemented his ability to do drama as well as comedy, playing a gay man dying of AIDS who gets fired because of his disease and decides to sue. An astonishing and highly demanding performance, this won Tom his first Oscar. Directed by Jonathan Demme, the film co-stars Denzel Washington as the lawyer who pleads his case.

Apollo 13 (1995)- Hanks's assured portrayal of astronaut Jim Lovell anchors Ron Howard's rousing tribute to the Apollo space program and the courageous and resourceful efforts -- both on-board and on the ground -- to get the Apollo 13 crew back safely from the moon after an equipment malfunction.

Toy Story1, 2, 3 (1995, 1999, 2010)- This smart, colorful and imaginative Pixar series detailing the adventures of a group of talking toys who worry their owner will grow up and discard them remains hugely popular for a good reason: it transports us all back to our own childhood, when we all had toys we cared about. It's hard to imagine these ageless features would be anywhere near as good without the voice of Hanks as cowboy doll protagonist Woody.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)- Steven Spielberg's triumphant World War 2 film -- by turns touching and intense -- features Hanks as an officer assigned to find and return home an enlisted man on the front lines whose brothers have all been killed in combat. His Captain Miller is no John Wayne character: he does his duty, all the while suppressing the persistent tremor in his hands. A stunning achievement.

Return With Honor (1998)- Hanks narrates this fascinating and insightful doc about the harrowing experience of U.S prisoners of war who endured years of torture and confinement in North Vietnam prisons. A real eye-opener, and watch for former POW Senator John McCain.

Remember This 'Thriller' Star? You Do Not Want To Miss Her Crazy New Video

0

It's been four years since Michael Jackson's death, and the throng of tributes that have poured out of the music industry have inspired and touched anyone familiar with the King of Pop's legacy. But now a new, rather unique tribute has emerged -- one that just might top all of its predecessors in its oddness.

The devotee in question is Ola Ray, the 52-year-old former Playboy model who is perhaps best known for having starred as Jackson's girlfriend in the iconic 1983 "Thriller" video. She's recorded her first single, "Remember," which she labels a tribute to Jackson, and produced an accompanying video that is, let's just say, a few steps removed from the quality of "Thriller."

Ray's video often finds her in front of a green screen -- literally. She sings portions of the song in front of some sort of green backdrop, while other moments find her mimicking the "Thriller" dance, donning a thin coat of zombie makeup and surrounding herself with cartoon smoke amid breathtaking production values.

We applaud Ray's attempt to pay homage to Jackson, particularly after she successfully sued the singer's estate in 2009 for uncollected royalties. But the newfound singer might want to stick to her day job, whatever that might be.

We'll let you get to watching it (and please do), but first, here are our favorite still shots from the video:

Beyonce's body is one lean, mean, sexy machine, and she's not afraid to show it!

Queen Bey posted new photos to her Tumblr page Beyonce | I Am where she's seen wearing a plunging, patterned one-piece swimsuit that accentuates her toned legs and rock hard abs. The 31-year-old stunner chose to complement the look with a a flowery headband and the overall result is nothing short of spectacular.

Just this past week, Bey unveiled her amazing body on the cover of Flaunt magazine in nothing but glitter and admitted her guilty pleasure is Sunday pizza.

For whatever reason, when we eat weekly pizzas we look nothing like Beyonce.

Liam Payne from One Direction took to Twitter on Friday night to post a long apology to fans. The TwitLonger was apparently inspired by some "upsetting" signs he had seen held up at a recent event -- which led the young singer to believe that some fans might have been angry with him. Here's a screengrab of the message:

The note prompted an outpouring of responses from One Direction fans around the world, as well as from his personal buddies like Ashton from the boy band "5 Seconds of Summer."

Liam also responded directly to a few concerned fans to clarify the message he was trying to get across: That he hoped they didn't feel under-appreciated.

'Glee' Star Found Dead

0

Cory Allan Michael Monteith, a Canadian actor best known for playing Finn Hudson on the hit Fox TV show "Glee," was found dead Saturday in a Vancouver hotel room, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

He was 31.

Monteith's body was discovered at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel shortly after noon. According to the Vancouver Police Department, he checked into the hotel on July 6 and was due to check out on Saturday. When he failed to do so, the staff went into the room and found him. Paramedics declared him dead on the scene.

The authorities said Monteith was alone at the time of his death, and there appeared to be no foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

"…On behalf of the Vancouver Police, I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith," acting police chief Doug LePard said in a statement. "As was the case in countless homes, I watched 'Glee' regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death."

Born in Calgary, Alberta and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Monteith was the youngest son of Joe Monteith, who served in the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and Ann McGregor, an interior decorator. His parents divorced when he was very young, and Monteith struggled to deal with the change in his family life. That struggle led him to attend 16 different schools -- including one for troubled teens -- and abuse drugs and alcohol. To support his habit, he eventually dropped out of school and began stealing.

When Monteith was 19, his family and friends held an intervention. He checked into rehab, got clean and eventually received his high school diploma. He also launched an acting career, playing minor roles in the films "Final Destination 3" and "Deck the Halls," and guest-starring on several TV shows, including "Smallville," "Supernatural" and "Stargate SG-1."

Monteith's big break came in 2009 when he landed the role of Finn Hudson, a football player-turned glee club singing star on the show "Glee." The part earned him a legion of fans known as "Gleeks" and a Teen Choice Award in 2011. The show's cast also won a Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a comedy.

When Monteith wasn't working on the show, he and the cast performed live shows in the U.S., Canada and Europe. In his spare time, he enjoyed hockey, basketball, surfing and playing the drums. He also stars in the upcoming independent film "All the Wrong Reasons."

Monteith returned for another stint of rehab in March, but appeared to be healthy and in good spirits last month.

Adam Shankman, who frequently directed episodes of "Glee," took to Twitter to express his sadness at Monteith's death.

Monteith is survived by his parents, older brother Shaun and girlfriend, actress and co-star Lea Michele.

'Glee' Star Found Dead

'Glee' star Cory Monteith has died, Vancouver police confirmed Saturday night.

The police said that Monteith was found dead in his room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel on Saturday afternoon.

The police are saying that foul play is not suspected. Global's John Daly tweeted that the cause of death may be a possible overdose.

Coroners would not say how the actor died, adding that the cause of death was not immediately obvious.

Monteith had been "dead for several hours when he was discovered," said chief coroner Lisa Lapointe at the news conference.

Police say Monteith checked into the luxury hotel on July 6 and was due to check out on Saturday.

Story continues below slideshow.

In April, Monteith entered rehab and left about a month after after he was admitted.

Read the full news release from Vancouver police here:

Shortly after noon today the Vancouver Police received a call from the BC Ambulance Service regarding a sudden death in a room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at 1038 Canada Place in downtown Vancouver.

Police attended within minutes of the call and paramedics advised the man in the room was clearly deceased. Coroner’s staff did attend the scene.

The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old actor Cory Monteith, who achieved great fame on the popular TV series Glee.

Before I give further information, on behalf of the Vancouver Police, I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith. As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death.

Mr. Monteith checked into the hotel on July 6th and was due to check out of the room today. There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier last night, but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died.

When he missed his check-out time, staff went to the room at noon and found his body.

We know there will be considerable interest in this case, and we had detectives assigned to the case who attended with our Forensic Identification Unit to examine the scene, to ensure to the extent possible that there are no unanswered questions.

Hotel video has been secured as well as room access records. Our investigators have spoken with hotel staff, who are providing the utmost in cooperation.

The Coroner will be determining the next steps with respect to establishing cause of death, but all indications are that there was no foul play.

'Glee' Star Dead

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Cory Monteith, the handsome young actor who shot to fame in the hit TV series "Glee" but was beset by addiction struggles so fierce that he once said he was lucky to be alive, was found dead in a hotel room, police said. He was 31.

Monteith, who played the character Finn Hudson on the Fox TV series about a high school glee club, was found dead in his room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel on Vancouver's waterfront at about noon Saturday, according to police.

Deputy Police Chief Doug Lepard said there was no indication of foul play. Monteith's body was found by hotel staff after he missed his check-out time, Lepard said.

"We do not have a great deal of information as to cause of death," Coroner Lisa Lapointe said.

Lepard said Monteith had been out with people earlier and that those people are being interviewed.

"I have no words! My heart is broken," Dot-Marie Jones, who plays football coach Shannon Beiste on "Glee," said in a post on her Twitter account Saturday night. She called Monteith a "hell of a friend" and an "amazing" man.

"What an absolutely tragic loss of a very talented young man," tweeted Zooey Deschanel, star of another Fox show, "New Girl."

Fox and the producers of "Glee," including 20th Century Fox Television, called him an exceptional performer "and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously."

"We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," his representatives at Viewpoint Public Relations in Los Angeles said in a statement.

In April, Monteith admitted himself to a treatment facility for "substance addiction" and asked for privacy as he took steps toward recovery, a representative said at the time.

Lea Michele, his "Glee" co-star and real-life girlfriend, told People magazine that she loved and supported him and was proud he was seeking help.

It was not Monteith's first time in rehab. He received treatment when he was 19 and had previously talked about his addiction struggles, saying he had a serious problem and took just "anything and everything."

He told Parade magazine in 2011 that he was "lucky to be alive."

Monteith, who turned 31 on May 11, starred in "Glee" as a high school football player who puts his status and popularity at risk to join the glee club and its outcast members.

The show, with its pop music-based song-and-dance numbers and high-profile guest stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, became an immediate hit and made stars of its relatively unknown cast.

The series, which debuted in 2009, is in its fourth season.

On his Twitter account, Monteith described himself as "tall, awkward, canadian, actor, drummer, person."

In a 2010 interview with The Associated Press, Monteith was upbeat about life. He said that if "Glee" were to be canceled he would be OK.

"I've never been afraid of working," he said. "I've never been afraid of auditioning for jobs. Obviously, I've never been afraid of anonymity. I was happy (before `Glee'). I'm happy now. I guess I'm well adjusted."

Monteith was among the "Glee" actors who remained series regulars as their characters graduated high school and moved on to other adventures.

According to his biography on Fox's website, Monteith was born in Calgary, Alberta, and moved to Vancouver Island as a child. Before turning to acting, he held a variety of jobs including Wal-Mart greeter, school bus driver, roofer and cab driver.

Monteith's TV credits included roles on the series "Kaya" and "Kyle XY" and guest appearances on "Smallville," "Supernatural," "Stargate," "Flash Gordon" and "Interns." His film credits included "Final Destination 3," "The Invisible," "Deck the Halls" and "Whisper."

Beyonce Holds Moment Of Silence For Trayvon

0
0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Beyonce called in a concert for a moment of silence for Trayvon Martin, rapper Young Jeezy released a song in Martin's memory and Russell Simmons called for peace after George Zimmerman was acquitted by a Florida jury in the death of the teenager.

There was a wide range of reactions by celebrities after jurors cleared Zimmerman late Saturday of all charges in the 2012 shooting death of the unarmed 17-year-old Martin.

Beyonce took a moment to honor Martin during her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. Her concert started about 30 minutes after the Zimmerman verdict began to circulate.

"I'd like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon," the pop star said as the stage grew dark with just a few key lights shining.

Beyonce then sang the chorus of "I Will Always Love You," a song, fittingly given the location, written by country music star Dolly Parton and brought to a global audience by the late Whitney Houston, before transitioning into her hit "Halo."

It was just one of several reactions from celebrities and artists following Zimmerman's acquittal by a six-woman jury. Much of it focused on the perceived outrage of the situation. But others had more poignant responses.

Young Jeezy posted a new song, "It's a Cold World (A Tribute to Trayvon Martin)," to his Facebook page with a comment: "I am in no way shape, form, or fashion ... trying to capitalize off of the latest series of events. These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it."

Simmons, a producer and entrepreneur, posted a blog entry that said he'd be supporting the Trayvon Martin Foundation in helping to repeal laws like Florida's Stand Your Ground law. He signed off, "God bless you little brother. Rest in peace."

He also called for those upset with the verdict to channel their energy away from violence on Twitter, telling followers "we must remain peaceful. No matter what, remain peaceful."

For the most part, it appeared protesters did with few reports of damage late Saturday and early Sunday in Tallahassee, Fla., Atlanta and California.

"If u have any anger this evening," Simmons wrote on Twitter, "put that energy into challenging these horrible laws that allow overly-anxious neighborhood watchmen to carry guns and shoot innocent people. "

Haley Frederick: Cory Monteith: A Fan's Reaction

0
0

Sometimes, the best way to get your feelings out is to write them down.

"Glee" is one of my favorite TV shows, and has been since the pilot aired in 2009. One of the reasons that I loved the pilot episode so much was the tall, goofy football player with a heart of gold, Finn Hudson. In a way, Finn was solely responsible for the glee club that we've come to know and love. He's the one who brought them together with "Don't Stop Believin'," and we've loved him ever since.

Why is Finn so lovable? Because of that tall, goofy actor with a heart of gold, Cory Monteith.

Everyone who knew or met Cory had nothing but nice things to say about him. He was known as one of the friendliest guys in the cast. Multiple newbies said that Cory was the person who reached out to them and really made them feel comfortable on set.

Earlier this year, Cory went to rehab. Friends and fans alike publicly displayed their support and love for him. Basically, they reflected Cory's own loving energy back at him, because when someone is so kind they inspire kindness in return. It's no secret that Cory has struggled with drugs since he was 13 years old. He has always been very open about it. Addiction is a terrible illness that has the power to take the best person from the people that love them. While we do not yet know the cause of death, with Cory it could have done just that.

I've witnessed the passing of many celebrities and icons over the years. This is the first time that it has ever felt personal to me. Before I had mourned with the crowd and tweeted my respects, but this morning when I woke up to three text messages telling me the news, I was shocked and deeply, truly sad. I imagine a lot of people are sharing in this experience. Cory is the first loss that this young generation of fans has experienced. It has moved and inspired me to see the fans come together in such a huge way.

In times like this, I've heard people use this quote:

"Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another."
― Albert Einstein

It's up to us to take Cory's kind, loving and goofy energy with us and carry it in our lives. His memory, impact, inspiration and energy will live on.

My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. We love you, Cory.
