They Got Famous How?

The role of the understudy may be one of the most underappreciated aspects of the musical world. As they rehearse for hours with no guarantee of ever seeing the stage, the ill-begotten understudies often fall into the forgotten depths of Playbill history without so much as a rose of congratulations. That is, unless you're Anthony Hopkins or Shirley MacLaine.

Yes, Hopkins and MacLaine, two award-winning Hollywood actors, had their humble beginnings as back-up Broadway performers. They worked their way up from the very bottom of the stage roster to become some of the most well-known performers out there -- and they're not the only ones.

Check out the slideshow below for a whole list of famous understudies who rose from stand-in to star, and let us know what you think of the impressive career actors below.

Why Megan Fox Threatened To Divorce Brian Austin Green

How are new parents Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green holding up since the birth of their son Noah?

The actress recently gushed to E! News that she loves her 10-week-old baby "so much it hurts," but admits that new motherhood isn't all rainbows and butterflies.

“[T]wo weeks ago I said to Brian, ‘We have to get a night nurse or we’re going to get a divorce because somebody’s got to sleep in this house or we’re going to kill each other,’" Fox told British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mirror.

The actress -- who is best known for her role in the blockbuster "Transformers" movies -- recently enlisted the help of a night nurse two nights a week to take some of the stress off of her and her "90210" actor husband.

“Having an infant is difficult,” she added. “It’s a lot of work and I didn’t hire any help [at first] because I overestimated my own abilities. I had no idea how difficult babies could be, so Brian and I were exhausted."

Baby Noah Shannon was born on September 27, though the couple didn't announce the news until mid-October. Fox and Green have been married since June 2010. This is the first child for the couple, but the second for Green who has a 10-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Will Psy's Latest Performance Still Be Shown?

President Barack Obama shook hands with Psy at Sunday’s taping of TNT's "Christmas in Washington" concert even as the controversy surrounding the South Korean pop singer's anti-American past continued to swirl. Yet Psy's performance could still be cut before the show's Dec. 21 airdate.

The latest word from TNT? "Psy's performance will be included," Samantha Graham, the network's vice president for public relations, tells The Huffington Post.

The concert, taped at the National Building Museum, was hosted by Conan O'Brien and featured performances by Diana Ross, Demi Lovato, "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery, and Megan Hilty, star of NBC’s "Smash" -- none of whom declined to share a stage with the "Gangnam Style" performer.

"The only way that TNT would reconsider airing Psy's performance is if advertisers started to pull out," one media insider says. "But if the president and Diana Ross don't seem to have a problem, I'm not sure advertisers will. At the moment, most of the outrage seems to be on social media. Psy has apologized, and the next few days will be critical to see what happens."

Nancy Shonka Padberg: Brad Pitt Is a Baby Boomer

There is much discussion in the media about baby boomers and their economic strength today. It's well known now that baby boomers hold 70 percent of the U.S. wealth and will be inheriting trillions in the next 20 years. However, who are the other marketing groups that make up our 312 million Americans? I believe it helps to have a face with a name. Here are the four main U.S. marketing demographics with famous cultural icon examples for easy identification and spending statistics:

Dustin Hoffman is 75. Silent Generation: 67 - 87 Years Old

Born between 1925 and 1945, saw the Great Depression, lower birth rates due to World War II, Korean War, icons such as Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, better education, this generation tended not to protest or carry posters.

Don't underestimate this demographic; they are the grandparents spending over $50 billion annually on their grandkids' education, trips, gifts and more. They also purchase the most luxury cruises. Note that Larry King is now the spokesperson for Grandparents.com, a rapidly growing website helping grandparents bond with their grandchildren with activities, recipes, travel and games.

Brad Pitt is 48. Baby Boomer: 48 - 66 Years Old

Born between 1946 and 1964 with cultural influences of rock 'n' roll, Woodstock, Beatles, Vietnam War, JFK assassination, "The Ed Sullivan Show," "Happy Days," women's rights, civil rights, sexual freedom and new highways that encouraged travel.

This generation holds 70 percent of the U.S. wealth, purchases the most cars; in fact, three out of five new cars purchased were by baby boomers. Baby boomers own the most homes, eight out of 10 own their homes. KB Home recently partnered with AARP to create Simply Living, a collection of home options for aging adults in design, safety and technology from the kitchen to the bedroom and bathroom. Websites featuring homes and boomer-friendly towns such as Best Boomer Towns feature the best 21 towns to live in the U.S. This is due to the baby boomer's' desire to move away from the snow, cold, rain and, now, hurricanes.

Cameron Diaz is 40. Gen X: 32 - 48 Years Old

Born between 1964 and 1980. Gen X is also called the MTV generation, grew up with AIDS epidemic, 40 percent have divorced parents, dot-com bubble and attaining high educational levels.

A Census Bureau study released a few months ago found that those in the 35-44 bracket experienced the biggest percent decline in median household net worth between 2005 and 2010.

Justin Bieber is 18. Gen Y: 14 - 32 Years Old

Born between 1980 and 1998. The demographic cohort, also known as the Millennial Generation, Boomerangs, Echo Boomers, Trophy Kids and Eighties Babies. Grew up with computers, environmental awareness, high expectations for employment and tend to marry later.

This generation has been best known over the past year for moving back in with their baby boomer parents. In fact, 30 percen of Gen Y's moved back in with their parents after college due to the job market.

Clearly, at this time in size and economic strength the baby boomers purchasing power is tremendous. The brands who understand, connect and engage them will earn a share of their wallet!

How Does Mandy Patinkin Kill Time On The 'Homeland' Set? Mooning

Days on TV sets can be very long, especially for the actors. How does Mandy Patinkin kill time on set of "Homeland"? By dropping trou and mooning fellow actors. According to Vulture, Patinkin admitted to mooning "Homeland's" Rupert Friend.

"I mooned Rupert once," Patinkin told Vulture. "It was a long day, and I needed something to just get through the next few hours, and there we were. There was some reason for me to just go like, 'Oh God, let me just moon you.'"

Friend hinted at Patinkin's antics in November 2012
. "And Mandy did something really quite inappropriate, which I’m not going to divulge," he told Vulture. "But put it this way, you wouldn’t expect it in a room full of consenting adults. While singing."

Yep, Patinkin sings on the "Homeland" set, often with Damian Lewis.

It seems mooning -- albeit accidental -- can help bring levity to some intense sets. Evan Peters flashed Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson on "American Horror Story: Asylum."

"He flashed us. I got a whole view of his nut sack," Paulson told The Huffington Post. "[T]here are worse things to look at than Evan Peters from behind, I gotta say. I mean, Jessica and I blew a couple takes, we were laughing so hard because we just looked at each other and thought, 'What the hell are we doing?!' We're looking at these bare asses of these people and I'm handing her canes from the closet."

The "Homeland" Season 2 finale airs Sun., Dec. 16 at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime.

Timeline Of Elmo Puppeteer's Underage Sex Allegations

MIAMI — Another man on Monday sued the former Elmo puppeteer who resigned amid sex abuse allegations, claiming the voice actor befriended him in Miami and promised to be a father figure before flying the teen to New York to have sex with him.

The alleged victim is now the fourth to accuse Kevin Clash, who resigned from "Sesame Street" last month after 28 years. The three legal actions filed so far have been civil cases seeking financial compensation.

But the incident with the latest victim, referred to only as S.M., could involve criminal charges because the lawsuit claims Clash transported him across state lines for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

Attorney Jeff Herman said he encouraged his client to report the incident to authorities but it's unclear if the now-33-year-old alleged victim has done so.

Sexual abuse allegations against Clash triggered a media frenzy last month. He quickly denied the first claim, which was recanted the next day. But Clash then resigned after a 24-year-old college student, Cecil Singleton, sued him for $5 million, saying the actor engaged in sexual behavior with him when he was 15.

Singleton claims the voice actor met him in New York a dozen years ago after trolling gay telephone chat lines and seeking underage boys for sex.

In the latest case, the plaintiff said Clash approached him on Miami Beach, complimented his appearance and struck up a friendship. Clash returned home to New York, but stayed in touch with the teen, promising to be a dad to him. The youth, who was 16 or 17 at the time, had been molested by a teacher and was considering running away from home, according to the lawsuit.

"These are all vulnerable boys. None of them had father figures in their lives and they were looking for that father figure," said Herman, who represents three of the alleged victims.

The lawsuit says Clash paid for a plane ticket from Florida to New York in 1996 and arranged for a car service to pick up the teen and bring him to his upscale apartment, where he gave him cash and showered him with "attention and affection" and ultimately engaged in numerous sexual acts.

Herman said he is poring over receipts and other documents to see if the car service was paid for by Clash's employers at Sesame Street.

Clash's attorney Michael Berger said in a statement that "the lawsuit is without merit and we will vigorously defend the case and Mr. Clash's reputation."

Sesame Street publicist Ellen Lewis said "we're confident in the actions that we took," but declined further comment, saying it was an issue between litigants.

Herman said the alleged victims didn't come forward sooner because they were afraid, but have found courage as others have spoken up.

He said they are compliant victims who participated in the sexual acts, but didn't consent because it's illegal for a minor to do so.

"Because they participated in the sex they feel like they're doing something wrong ... they're ashamed, they're embarrassed, not something they really want to talk about," he said.

Herman said he's been contacted by several other possible victims and is vetting their cases.

Tom Murro: Reeve Magical Evening Gala in Honor of a Superman

2012-12-04-tommurrokaitlinmontemelissagorgajoegorgareevegala2012.jpg

This past Wednesday night November 28th, I attended the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation's 21st annual A Magical Evening Benefit Gala at Cipriani Wall Street. Proceeds from the event went to the Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to finding a cure for paralysis and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis.

Two of Christopher's children, Matthew Reeve and Alexandra Reeve Givens, hosted the star-studded event. The siblings are so stunningly beautiful and genetically perfect, I cannot help but to wonder if they were conceived in a phone booth. The Superman actor would've been incredibly proud of their poise, graciousness, and dedication in continuing his legacy.

As always, a heap of celebrities showed up to support the cause. Fittingly, Christopher Reeve once said, "Nothing of any consequence happens unless people get behind an idea."

I had my own reason to feel proud, since my party buddy for the evening was Miss New York 2011, Kaitlin Monte. I'm sure she had no idea that she would be doing additional charity work that evening by being seen with me. It certainly didn't hurt my image. Kaitlin's beauty and lovely personality was more powerful than a speeding locomotive, attracting all the A-listers in our direction (OK, in her direction).

One of those A-listers was Meryl Streep, a long-time supporter of the foundation, who I love-love; who I legitimate love. The usually elegant Meryl looked a bit frumpy and was wearing some sort of beaded dream-catcher necklace. Even though high fashion may have been her kryptonite that evening, it was still exciting to see this living legend mingling about.

While we hung with Harvey Weinstein, Kaitlin and I were approached by the Houdini of our time, David Blaine. We quickly learned that one does not simply ask an illusionist for "his card." A normal person would present a card, say keep in touch, and go about his business. David Blaine is not a normal person. Pulling a deck of cards out of his pocket, David treated us to 20 minutes worth of mind-bending tricks. It was surreal. Thankfully David didn't make me disappear, although I was invisible to him. I don't recall if Kaitlin ever got David's card, but they're now Facebook friends, which is even better!

Next, Kaitlin and I had the pleasure of talking with Eric LeGrand. Eric became paralyzed following a severe spinal injury during a football game in 2010, but he has since regained movement in his shoulders and sensation throughout his body. Full of infectious energy, Eric said he currently feels great and seemed to take a liking to Kaitlin. Can you blame him?

Ali Stroker, the cute girl on Glee, and spokesperson for the foundation, lit up the room. Ali, who has been paralyzed since the age of two, describes herself as an actor, singer, and wild child. After witnessing her hotness and fierce fashion choices, namely a pair of bad-ass black edgy heels, at the gala, I'd say a wild child indeed. Ali brought her charming mom as her plus one.

Another beautiful singer, Jordin Sparks attended the event with her boyfriend Jason Derulo. When Jordin and Jason weren't performing, my man DJ Whoo Kid kept the crowd entertained with his party-hearty playlist.

Last but certainly not least, we spotted Real Housewives of NJ's Joe and Melissa Gorga (more like, GORGeous! Damn she's hot!). What NYC party would be complete without at least one Real Housewife? I can't say if cameras were or weren't taping their every move for season 5, but we did get lots of Italian-style hugs, kisses, and maybe a few pinches... and that was just from Joe. He and I talked for a while throwing down some Johnnie Walker Blacks, while the ladies sipped on champagne. We had quite a buzz after hanging with Joe and Melissa; however, I don't know if it came from the booze or Joe's cologne. Now Joe's my bromee for life, but a few less dabs behind his ear wouldn't be a bad idea.

After about 15 minutes of this top shelf fun, Kaitlin and I said goodbye to Cipriani and headed to Capitale. for a party co-hosted by the a less likeable Housewife Teresa Giudice. I went under protest. The event was nearly over by the time we arrived, thank goodness for small favors, huh?

Upon entering we spied Teresa and Kim D deep in conversation. We had no idea what they were discussing so intently, but I'm guessing it involved cookbooks, her hubby Joe's erections (a.k.a. "Teresa's imaginary friend"), and maybe a little bit of talk about world peace and the struggling economy for good measure. Speaking of Joe, he was also there wearing what appeared to be the same blazer I saw him wear to court a few months ago. I don't know what's worse, the fact that he was wearing his courtroom best, or that I actually noticed.

This is where Kaitlin and I decided to take advantage of last call and also scored what appeared to be bottles of champagne suspiciously left behind on the tables, then we parted ways and headed home.

The next morning I woke up to find I actually brought home a bottle of Sparkling Fabellini with Teresa's face on it (that explains why they were left behind). This is not something you should see while nursing a hangover (or a baby... or anything else that needs nursing).

A Look Back At The Life Of "La Diva De La Banda"

Jenni Rivera, 43, the Mexican-American singer and reality star, gave her final performance Saturday night in the city of Monterrey, Mexico before boarding a plane headed to Toluca early Sunday morning. Minutes later the aircraft had reportedly disappeared. Within hours, Mexican officials confirmed the chartered jet carrying Rivera and members of her professional team had crashed, leaving no survivors.

Rivera’s tragic death echoes a life filled with adversity -- hardship that in turn seemed to fuel the singer's journey to stardom. Esteemed by fans as “La Diva de la Banda,” the singer overcame depression, physical and psychological abuse, and family controversy to become a strong-willed woman within a male-dominated genre.

Dolores Janney Rivera Saavedra, as she was baptized by her parents Rosa Saavedra and Pedro Rivera, was the third of six children: Pedro, Gustavo, Lupillo, Juan and Rosy.

When Rivera’s parents decided to cross the border illegally from Mexico into the United States, Rosa Saavedra discovered she was pregnant, the singer said in an interview in 2001. She thought about abortion, but her religious faith pushed her to continue the pregnancy and risk the long trek across the desert. Months later, on July 2, 1969, Jenni Rivera was born in Los Angeles.

Part of a hard-working, not at all wealthy family, Rivera and her brothers began working while still teenagers. At the age of 14, she met her first husband, Trino Marin. By 15, Rivera was pregnant with Marin’s child. Rivera’s parents reacted by kicking her out of the house, she said in a 2002 interview.

Rivera later described the eight-year marriage as a sort of hell. Abused physically and psychologically, Rivera had three children with Trino Marin -- Janney, better known as “Chiquis,” Jacqueline and Trino Angelo. The future singer studied secretly to finish high school and move on to college, where she studied business administration, and struggled with depression.

Initiation Into Music

After two suicide attempts, Rivera got up the courage to divorce her husband. She finished her studies and headed into the real estate business. Returning to her parents house, Rivera helped her father with the contracts for a record label he’d opened called “Cintas Acuario.”

That’s when she began a career out of her love for music. Her father, a musician himself who would eventually become an important player in California’s music industry, had encouraged his children to sing. Her family had already chosen her brother Lupillo to sing narcocorridos -- a controversial genre that extols the exploits of drug traffickers along the border.

Jenni Rivera started with just a few songs that she recorded as a birthday gift to her father. Soon, she took up singing in bars around Los Angeles to make extra money. In 1995, she met the man who would become her second husband, Juan López, in one of those bars and went to live with him. But just weeks after moving in, her new husband was arrested on allegations of smuggling undocumented immigrants across the border for payment.

After finishing a six-month sentence, López and Rivera resumed their relationship. Rivera gave birth to her fourth child, Johnny Angelo in 2001. The marriage wasn’t what Rivera had hoped for, however. The two divorced because of López’s infidelity, according to Rivera.

But Rivera had recorded some corridos of her own and an homage to Selena Quintanilla-Perez, known simply as Selena, a Tejano music star killed by an obsessed fan club leader in the mid 1990s. She also made contact with Sony Music. In 2000 her career took off with the record label Fonovisa. Inside the industry, she wasn’t much more than the “sister of Lupillo Rivera,” who was at the top of his career. But “Que me entierren con la banda,” Jenni Rivera’s first record with her new label, finally caught people’s attention.

Tragedy And Success, Side By Side

Just as Rivera’s musical career was taking shape, a family secret plunged her into a deep depression. Her younger sister Rosy revealed she and two of Jenni’s daughters had been sexually abused for several years by Trino Marin, Rivera’s first husband and her daughter’s father.

“This is the worst thing I’ve had to live in my life,” Rivera said in a 2006 interview on Univisión’s “Escándalo TV.”

Completely destroyed and full of rage, Rivera filed a police complaint against her ex in 1996 after discovering the abuse.

It was not an easy road to justice. Marino wasn’t arrested until 2006. After a year-long trial, he was convicted on six of the nine charges against him in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, among them: pedophilia, child abuse and evasion of justice.

In the intervening years, Jenni had already become "La Diva de la Banda," recording five hit albums: “Se las voy a dar a otro," "Homenaje a las grandes," "Simplemente... La mejor," "Parrandera, rebelde y atrevida" and "Mi vida loca." She also had received by then several Premios lo Nuestro nominations, months on the top of the Billboard charts and four Latin Grammy nominations.

But scandals remained a constant in her life. In 2007 her second husband, Juan Lopez, was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling drugs. In 2009, Lopez died in prison of pneumonia.

In 2008, Rivera was accused of beating a fan with a microphone at one of her concerts, and in 2011 she threw a beer can at the head of another fan who had hit her with a another beer can. The same year her brother, Juan Rivera, was also caught in problems with authorities when he beat one of her fans for trying to go on stage, causing both Juan and Jenni to be detained by the Police.

But Rivera also had faith in her future.

“I had interviewed her a few months ago, and she told me: ‘You know Lee, people don’t know me but they will.’ And this is a very sad tragedy because she had so many plans,” Latina Magazine Deputy Editor Lee Hernandez told HuffPost Live, pointing to Rivera’s planned ABC reality show and her aspiration to become "the Mexican-American Oprah."

Max Burkholder Previews A Very Emotional 'Parenthood' Christmas

"Parenthood" viewers have been fearing this week's Christmas episode (Tues., Dec. 11 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC), which sees Kristina's (Monica Potter) health taking a turn for the worse after being diagnosed with cancer earlier in Season 4.

Max Burkholder -- who plays Max, the son of Kristina and Adam Braverman (Peter Krause), on "Parenthood" -- told HuffPost TV via phone that he "cried so much" when he read the script for the NBC series' Christmas installment, titled "What to My Wondering Eyes." Below, 15-year-old Burkholder talks about Max's journey with Asperger's, Kristina's fate, missing his TV sister Sarah Ramos, seeing his TV mom smoke pot and that damn vending machine.

Max has really come a long way this season. What do you love about playing him?
I like seeing Max whenever he's in a social situation, seeing how much he's grown since the first season.

Jason Katims' son, who has Asperger's, partly inspired the character of Max. Have you met him or anyone else with Asperger's?
I have met him and I have met a few people with Asperger's. It's always an enlightening experience for me because before the show, I really didn't have much of an idea about what autism or Asperger's was. And since starting the show, I really feel like it's been a learning experience for me.

Do people come up to you who can relate to Max to thank you?
They do. When someone comes up to me and they say, "My son has Asperger's or my nephew or a friend of mine," it just makes me feel like what I'm doing can make a difference.

What goes into ensuring that Max's behavior and lines are true to someone with Asperger's?
When I was first auditioning, they brought in a doctor who specializes in children with Asperger's and he told us the basic stuff. Then, since we started shooting, every couple of episodes I have a meeting with the executive producer, and the director of the episodes, and sometimes some of the writers, and a doctor specializing in Asperger's and we just talk about what Max would be doing in certain situations, like how he would react to certain things and if everyone was over here doing this, what would Max be doing?

Is it difficult playing Max or has it gotten easier now that you're in Season 4?
It's still definitely challenging, but I feel that I've worked out who Max is so much better than in the first season so it definitely has gotten easier.

We've seen a little bit of him working with his classmates as school president. Will we see more of that in Season 4?
We won't see as many of the interactions with his classmates, but we still see a little bit of that.

Do you miss working with Sarah Ramos this season?
I do! I do miss her. A couple of times, we've been shooting a scene in the kitchen with me and Monica and Peter, and I've just been like, "Something is missing. Oh! It's Sarah."

I was crying watching the promo for this week's episode. It looks like the saddest Christmas ever.
Seriously. I almost never cry at movies or when I'm watching TV and I haven't seen the episode yet, but when I read the script, I was crying so much.

How will Max deal with Kristina's health issues during Christmas?
For Max, his connection to her and her cancer specifically is that he does not register it so much on an emotional level, more so on a practical level, like, "If Mom is not around anymore, she won't be able to drive me to school or make me eggs the way I like my eggs."

So I imagine in this week's episode, Max will struggle with her being in the hospital and Adam being there with her also.
Well, everyone in the family sort of pulls together and one of the jobs that they have to come together to do is make sure Max does not break down and have a meltdown. He has traditions on Christmas that he always does and if Mom's in the hospital, he can't do those, so some of the members of the family have to help him with that. I think it's going to be a really good episode. It's a really good family-coming-together motif.

Watching the promo, you're just thinking, "They can't kill Kristina."
[Laughs.] [Monica] is just so great on the show.

Especially this season.
Definitely.

The scene where Kristina was smoking pot and then Julia came over in last week's episode ...
That was hilarious! It was ridiculous!

What do you hope for Max in the rest of Season 4?
I want him to get the vending machine back!

How many times do you think Max has said vending machine this season?
Probably a good 50 times.

What do you think he'd do if he got it?
He'd get everything from that vending machine!

"Parenthood" airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.

Charles Karel Bouley: The Jenni Rivera I Knew: Family First

$

I met Jenni Rivera July 27, 2012. I remember it vividly, because I then wrote about it for The HuffingtonPost.

I didn't know at the time I was meeting the most successful female Latin American star of our time; one poised to cross over to American success like her predecessor Selena. I thought I was meeting a cool friend of my friend, mun2 executive Hanna Bolte. Hanna kept telling me about this great friend of hers, Jenni, that was born in my city, Long Beach, Calif., graduated my high school, Long Beach Polytechnic in 1987 and was a single mom that fought adversity to succeed. You're going to love her, she's going to love you, you have to talk to her.

So, I went to a party for a show called "Chiquis 'n Control" about a young Hispanic woman and her friends running a hair salon and living on her own. That girl, nicknamed Chiquis, was Rivera's daughter I would learn, one of five children.

When Jenni took the stage at the event, she talked not of the show, her fragrance line, blue jeans, cosmetics, realty company, her 15 million albums sold... she talked of her pride in her daughter and the love for the rest of her children. She spoke of how fame and money is fleeting, and that all that mattered was la familia, family.

She brought her manager to the stage, a man she said helped her go from basic poverty in Long Beach to incredible fame, Pete Salgado. Later that night he and I would meet briefly.

Soon after this meeting, Salgado met with me many times over possibilities for me in the entertainment industry and we became friends. He, like Rivera, produced other shows and he was looking for one with a GLBT focus or host. At my first meeting with Pete I could see he was all about family, too. He spoke of how important the bond of friendship was between he and Jenni and that if I were to partner with him, I would be entering that family. He wanted to be sure my head was in the right place, more focused on what is real than the glitz or glam of future success, or else I would be a waste of his time and he didn't have it to waste. You see, every moment he would spend with me would be one taken away from a family member of some kind, and he wanted to make sure I passed muster.

Like me, Jenni did radio as part of her entertainment life. We've got to get Jenni on your show, you've got to do Jenni's show... that was said to me again just last Friday, the Friday before her death. I kept track of her through Hanna or Pete, always hearing of her adventures, and we would see each other at this-or-that event.

Sunday morning I was on my morning call with Hanna, we were talking about our lives, as we did and do every morning. We've been friends more than 25 years, each coming from humble beginnings to pretty "big" jobs. When you have a friend that's been in the entertainment industry a long time, it's nice to talk with them because you don't have to explain a lot of things, they get it, they know. The business is unique and to outsiders can seem strange. So it didn't seem odd at all when she said she had to go. It seems there were press reports about Jenni's plane and she had to nip it in the bud or get to the bottom of it.

I got ready to go review the Queen Mary Long Beach's Brunch and Chill extravaganza, grabbed my friend Daniel Charleston, hopped on my newly repaired MP3 250 Gio and had a blast all the way over the ship (Gio is so fun to ride). When you're on a bike, you can't really answer the phone, or even hear it.

When I got off the bike there was a single text message: It's not a rumor, Jenni's plane has vanished, on way to office, will text later.

I stared at the screen. That's not possible. It's a mistake. I immediately felt so much. Salgado had just suffered another major personal loss. He is such a family man, so from that loss to Jenni? No, the universe wouldn't do that to him. Jenni filled Hanna's day at mun2 often, with her various projects, and the two had grown close as well. My friend was speeding off to see what happened not just to one of her acts, but her friend. There would be other extended family members at mun2 and various companies, all feeling the same dread, the same fear, the same loss.

You see, stars of that size are industries; each touching the lives of so many, employing so many, with so many people's livelihoods tied up in them as well. And outside of the money, when the artist is Jenni Rivera, these people become extended family. She had a big heart, and cared for them all, knowing most by name. This loss wasn't and isn't just professional, it's personal for so many.

I sat in the opulence of the brunch and looked at Danny. He had met Jenni, too. The news was heavy. The waiter asked if I was all right; I seemed shaken. I told him what happened. No one knew yet. The word spread around the ballroom, and the heavily Hispanic staff began to look as I did, shaken. Jenni was loved in the Southern California Hispanic community; she was one of them that made it big, she was their Diva. I raised a glass, and said "Jenni loved a party, she loved life, she loved people and friends. Let's not sit here and be sad about her loss, but celebrate her life, it's what she'd want." Danny raised his glass, and we toasted as the harpist played Christmas music. Silent Night, indeed.

I sent my condolences to Pete via text, knowing he would be deluged with emotions and yes, work, and that I wouldn't hear back. But at least he would know he was in my thoughts. I stayed in touch with Hanna to make sure she didn't get too overwhelmed... breathe, eat, drink water, you're in the eye of a storm, stay strong and healthy. And like the world, I waited for news.

Now, today, Monday, December 10, the facts are in: it was Jenni on the plane, it was her plane, she is gone. And that just doesn't seem possible.

They'll be plenty asking about the fitness of the plane (it was over 40 years old), past scandals will be spoken about (Jenni had been married three times and was filing for divorce presently) and all that happens when a celebrity dies.

But all I can think about is Chiquis and the rest of the family, of Hanna and Jenni's mun2 family, of Pete and those that surround him daily and so many others that saw her not as Diva, but as a friend, mother, sister... those that loved her.

Jenni was a bright light, a positive force, a source of inspiration to so many. She fought adversity and prospered, used her talents in front of the camera and behind to secure a life for herself and her family on her own and on her own terms. She was a strong Hispanic woman, an independent woman that knew the source of her independence was her love and support of so many. She knew the priorities, what was right and wrong, knew what would last and was on the brink of even greater brightness.

I'll miss knowing she's in the world, and I know so many personally that will feel her loss for years and years to come, long after the news cycle is over and the media has moved on.

Jenni Rivera, the Diva, the mom, the friend, the sister, the boss, the talent, like so many before her, went way too soon and we are not a better planet with her off of it. We all lost something in that plane, the spirit of over coming adversity, the power of hope, the joy of love.

She's irreplaceable and won't be replicated any time soon.

Like so many today, I join in the feeling of loss and my heart goes to all of those I know, some personally, others unseen, that cared for her as well.

On a recent episode of "The Voice," Christina Milian asked Irish rocker contestant Terry McDermott whether or not he was a hobbit. "Yeah, I'm busted," he answered dryly. "I'm actually from Aberdeenshire in Scotland so I am technically from the Shire. I am a hobbit."

But the aspiring rocker isn't the only hirsute celebrity who bears a striking resemblance to Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's upcoming adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel. Take a look at our slideshow below to see the other Hollywood stars who could easily pass for extras.

OK -- so we all look pretty repulsive when we cry.

From Lauren Conrad's infamous single black tear (waterproof mascara, people!) to Kristen Bell's sloth-induced panic attack, it seems even Tinsletown has it's fair share of weepers.

Now will somebody hand these 23 celebrities a tissue:

Christina Admits 'Voice' Contestant Sang Song Better Than She Did

During the semi-finals of "The Voice," the seemingly unthinkable happened: Christina Aguilera admitted that someone sang a song better than her.

After Trevin Hunte sang “Wind Beneath My Wings,” Christina stepped up with her shocking admission. “I grew up singing that song, but I never sang it as crazy great as that actually. You took it to a whole different level,” she confessed.

Then Cassadee Pope sang, and Christina heaped even more praise in her direction. “Blake, you have a true superstar on your hands," she said.

Despite Christina's praise, BuddyTV is hoping Trevin, who Christina praised, will be sent home in Wednesday night's elimination. She Knows was also stumped by Christina’s assessment of Trevin -- saying he just wasn’t that good on this performance.

Tune in to NBC on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. EST to find out who gets elimination on "The Voice."

What Did Jay-Z Buy From Basel?

Hebru Brantley's Art Basel experience ended on a bang when the 31-year old Chicago artist sold a painting for $20,000. Did we mention he sold it to Jay-Z, one of the biggest stars to grace the event?

Maverick Carter, aka LeBron James' manager, eyed Brantley's piece, entitled, "Everyone’s Scared" at the fair on Sunday, and thought the work would be just up Young Hova's alley. Jay-Z eventually bought the work and had Brantley personally deliver it directly to his hotel room that night. Can you say Instagram opportunity?!

Jay wasn't the only hip-hop star to do some spending at Basel last week. Rick Ross went home with a Richard Mosse photograph, Diddy took back an Ivan Navarro sculpture and Usher bought a Louis Vuitton waffle maker.

Morrissey vs. Kate Middleton: Brit Rocker Blames Princess, Royal Family For Nurse's Suicide

Noted monarchy hater Morrissey wasted no time to place blame for the death of Jacintha Saldanha -- the British nurse who killed herself after being tricked by a crank call from two Australian DJs last week in connection with Kate Middleton being in the hospital.

"Even with the recent story about the nurse killing herself in King Edward Hospital, there's no blame placed on Kate Middleton who was in the hospital as far as I could see for absolutely no reason," Morrissey said in a wide-ranging interview with New Zealand television outlet 3News released today. "She feels no shame about the death of this woman, she's saying nothing about the death of this poor woman. The arrogance of the British royals is staggering, absolutely staggering. And why it's allowed to be I really don't know."

When pushed on the issue by the reporter who said Middleton was in the hospital regarding her pregnancy, Morrissey was quick to question if the hospital visit was even necessary.

"Does she have a health condition?" he asked. "Is it anorexia or is it pregnancy? We don't know. But what is the health condition? I mean morning sickness already? So much hoo haw and then suddenly as bright as a button as soon as this poor woman dies she's out of hospital? It doesn't ring true. It doesn't ring true.

"And I'm sure the Palace and Clarence House (Princess of Wales residence) put maximum pressure on this poor receptionist and nurse, and of course that's kept away from the press. I'm sure the British press hounded this poor woman to her death, that's kept away. And by this time next week she'll be forgotten. And that's how the British royals work.

When the reporter said it most people are reasonably laying the blame on the two Australian DJs -- Mel Grieg and Michael Christian, the pair who made the call -- Morrissey redirected the finger again towards the Royal family.

"But that's just a way of distracting people really isn't it," he said. "It was a prank call and they probably didn't ever think they'd get as far as they did. And I'm sure thousands of prank calls are made to Buckingham Palace every day. People probably do it all the time. The fact they got so far probably astonished them beyond belief. But the pressure put on the woman who connected the callers was probably so enormous that she took her own life.

"It wasn't because of two DJs in Australia that this woman took her own life, it was the pressure around her. And we forget about that and of course the Royals are exonerated as always, they're just so wonderful and we focus on something else -- two DJs in Australia -- which is not how it should be."

The reporter than referred to how the Royals revitalized themselves in recent years with the late Princess Diana's sons Harry and William and the recent marriage of Kate and William, even referring to them as a "constitutionally significant" version of the America's Kardashians.

"They (Royal Family) had to do that because they were losing their grip, so they had to try to reinvent themselves and put themselves forward as the top shop Royals for now and drag in Kate Middleton and so forth as the voice of youth," said Morrissey, who would also compare the Royal Family to current dictatorships in the Middle East and Syria.

"And therefore with the Olympics, with anything else that has happened in recent years, they hijack every event to make sure that any celebration of England is really a celebration of the Royal Family, which of course it isn't. But the Royal Family believe they are England and nothing else is England. And if you live outside London, it's not England anyway. But the way they hijack everything and shove their face in is extraordinary. Because what do they say? Please tell me one thing the Queen has ever said or William or Kate? I mean they are zombies but they are a business and it works."

Morrissey is slated to perform in New Zealand for two shows before a handful of Australian dates. The singer will then mount a U.S. tour in early 2013 that will conclude with a show in Mexico on March 14.

Great News For Guy Fieri

When I read the New York Times' hilariously smart-mouthed review of Guy Fieri's new Times Square restaurant, Guy's American Kitchen and Bar, I couldn't believe that a culinary experience could be so spectacularly frightful. Was the food really as "limp" and "oil-sogged" as the critic Pete Wells claimed? Did the drinks really taste like "a combination of radiator fluid and formaldehyde"? Did Fieri's spiky, bleached hair and Pauly Shore-turned-youth pastor personality inspire so much ire in the Gray Lady's reviewer that he could no longer separate the man from his food? Surely this place can't be worse than your average TGI Friday's. Or could it? I had to find out.

I wasn't alone. Wells's review was so popular--it's the most read story on the Times' website this month and it generated so much controversy that Fieri had to defend his reputation on the Today show--that the restaurant has started drawing a crowd. Of locals.
