Xtina To Label: 'You Are Working With A Fat Girl'

Christina Aguilera's known for being the outspoken judge on "The Voice," and now she's not holding back when it comes to discussing her weight in the new issue of Billboard magazine. The former "Mickey Mouse Club" star -- who, along with her young co-stars Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, was catapulted into musical fame -- says she felt pigeonholed and pressured to maintain a "skinny, blue-eyed white girl" appearance, even though she was quickly tiring of the image.

"During the promotion of my album Stripped [in 2002], I got tired of being a skinny white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl," Aguilera told the publication.

She describes an "emergency meeting" arranged by the label after discovering that Aguilera had added extra weight to her petite 5-foot-1-inch frame.

"The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings!... Let me tell you, that wasn't an easy pill for them to swallow. I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my Stripped tour [with Justin Timberlake, 31]. They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would affect a lot of people if I gained weight -- the production, musical directors."

The comments spurred Aguilera to drop the weight and become "toothpick thin" for her 2006 Back to Basics tour, but the 31-year-old singer has a decidedly different perspective about her body and yo-yo diets now. Aguilera recently announced that she was quitting "The Voice" to work on a new album, Lotus -- her first in two years. And she flat-out told her producers that her body was no longer up for discussion.

"I told them during this Lotus recording, 'You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it,'" she said. "My body can't put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore -- my body is just not on the table that way anymore."

Aguilera doesn't appear to be shy about showing off her fuller-figured frame. Her new video for "Your Body," off the upcoming album, shows the star showing off her own body while wearing skintight dresses and corset tops as she sings, "All I wanna do is love your body / Oooooh ooooh oooooh oooooooh /Tonight’s your lucky night, I know you want it /Oooooh ooooh oooooh oooooooh."

Ron Howard Celebrates Andy Griffith

RALEIGH, N.C. — Andy Griffith led by example on the set of his television show, teaching a 6-year-old boy that true leadership requires not only confidence and hard work but also humility, Academy Award-winning film director Ron Howard said in recorded remarks Sunday.

Howard's remarks were played during a Griffith tribute at the 23rd annual Mayberry Days celebration in Mount Airy. It's the first Mayberry Days held since Griffith, a native of Mount Airy, died July 3 at the age of 86 at his home in Manteo. The three-day event typically attracts 25,000 to 30,000 people.

"Andy's impact on my life and my approach to my work really can't be measured," Howard said. "The balance that he sustained between focused, creative effort and this overt, playful enjoyment that he got out of working hard with people that he liked, doing a show he loved, was something that I hope I'll always remember and emulate."

Howard played Opie Taylor, the red-headed son of Sheriff Andy Taylor, on "The Andy Griffith Show." The CBS TV show aired from 1960 to 1968, starting when Howard was 6 years old and ending when he was 14.

Tanya Jones, executive director of the Surry Arts Council, said Howard reached out to her and told her he wanted to "do something for Andy," adding that he knew Griffith loved his hometown. He emailed Jones after she had reached out to his father, actor Rance Howard, for help with the celebration that's held in the North Carolina town that inspired the fictional town of Mayberry.

Ron Howard hinted that what he learned on "The Andy Griffith Show" helped him with his future career, which includes an Academy Award for directing "A Beautiful Mind." Griffith, he said, established an inclusive set that allowed him, at age 6, "to feel safe, comfortable enough to participate and then to be able to witness and learn so much about the collaborative process – the value of originality, the discipline of form and the bursts of individual inspiration that good moments and scenes are built on."

Rance Howard sent a statement praising Griffith's character to be read at the tribute.

"Andy was an excellent role model, the guardian of good taste and humor," wrote Rance Howard. "He loved to laugh out loud and long but his motto was, `I don't want the public to laugh at us, I want them to laugh with us.'"

Griffith was recovering from a heart attack when Rance Howard's wife, Jean, died. Griffith flew with his wife, Cindi, to California so he could speak at the memorial service.

"That's the kind of friend Andy was," Rance Howard wrote. "Yes, he played an enormous role in our lives."

Ron Howard said he learned during the eight seasons "how much care had to go into making a program if it was going to be truly worthy of an audience's time.

"... He helped me to understand that high achievement and leadership require confidence, yes, hard work, absolutely. But it could be gained while still maintaining humility, humanity and a joyous appreciation for those around him. Like so many others, I'm going to miss you, Andy."

With his last words for the crowd, Howard mimicked Griffith, who was famous for telling the audience three words at the end of his shows: "I appreciate it."

Best-known (well, arguably) for her iconic red bathing suit on "Baywatch," what Pamela Anderson has worn (or taken off) has always been a part of her career. The Canadian-born babe favors over-the-top outfits, neatly-plucked eyebrows and heavy makeup on the red carpet, but, as a Malibu mom, is much more casual in her daily life. A mother of two, Anderson's a natural beauty underneath the blonde bombshell image.

To celebrate Anderson's 45th birthday on July 1st, we're taking a look back at the "Baywatch" babe's best looks over the years.

Why 'Pitch Perfect' Was Almost Rated 'R'

That movie your friends are going to quote for the next year? It's called "Pitch Perfect," the brand new comedy starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson that does for the a cappella world what "Bring It On" did for cheerleading.

Filled with hysterical one-liners about everything from Sisqo to Rick Dees to "Star Wars," the tone of "Pitch Perfect" recalls not just "Bring It On," but "Mean Girls." That might not be a complete accident: Screenwriter Kay Cannon, a Second City-trained improv comic and Upright Citizens Brigade veteran, worked as a producer and writer on "30 Rock" alongside Tina Fey. The hilarious Cannon -- who currently writes for "New Girl" and recently sold a pitch to Fox that's described as "'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' set in the offices of an 'NFL Sunday'-type show" -- spoke with HuffPost Entertainment about what "Pitch Perfect" owes to "A League of Their Own," why being funny trumped gender politics and which song she considers her very own "diddle jam."

"Pitch Perfect" is actually based on Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book of the same name. How did you go about using that source for your script?
I didn't know anything about the a cappella world. I didn't even know it existed until my first year at "30 Rock." There was a joke about the character Two-fer being part of an a cappella group in Harvard. I thought that was such a funny joke. My boss, Robert Carlock, said, "It's not really a joke. It's a real thing. That world exists." I'm from Chicago, and it's not really popular there -- or at least back in my day it wasn't super popular; I think it might be more now. When I heard that world existed, I actually said in the writers' room, "Someone needs to write a movie about that." I couldn't believe that this sort of thing existed. So, I didn't know anything about the world and didn't have time to research it. When I found out the book was coming out -- and that Mickey Rapkin had followed three groups around for a year and wrote about their experiences -- I felt like that was the research I needed to understand the world.

I also made an assumption: I'm an improviser, and the improv world is a very specific world as well, and I felt that a cappella was the improv world with music. Where it's very serious and there are groups and competition and some people become famous and there's a language we speak from one improviser to another. When I read Mickey's book, those suspicions were confirmed. What I found from the book was that the females were the underdogs. So, character-wise -- because it's a non-fiction book, there's not a narrative -- so story-wise and character-wise I just made these characters up to do things I wanted to do and characters I thought would be funny and liked. The idea that it would be a sort of "Bring It On," but girls versus guys. That came from reading the book and realizing the all-female groups don't do well.

Most of the audience for this film has memorized "Bring It On" and "Mean Girls." Was it hard to write something in that vein without falling back on jokes those films have done already?
When I started writing, I was like "This is 'Bring It On' in the a cappella world." But I didn't necessarily pull from things I already knew. I tried to really think about my friends and which female friends of mine were really funny. What kind of characters they were and the quirks they had. I've been on several improv teams in my life and there's always different characters that you're meeting whenever you're with a group of people who are competing or doing something they are very passionate about. I'm also the sixth of seven children, so I have sisters -- and that's just a bunch of life experiences I was pulling from. I didn't really think of the comedy part of "Bring It On" or other movies that we're being compared to. But I love those movies. I've seen "Bring It On" like, a thousand times. Another movie I was really inspired by was "A League Of Their Own."

Someone on Twitter actually compared the training montage in "Pitch Perfect" to "A League of Their Own."
That's really great. I watched a lot of "A League of Their Own." You know how Esther Dean -- who was nominated for a Grammy for writing Katy Perry's "Firework" -- plays Cynthia Rose in the movie? She was this musical person and she came in and auditioned and I was so happy that she was part of the ensemble because it reminded me of the way Madonna was in "A League of Their Own." It's a bunch of very different people from all walks of life coming together. So seeing Esther Dean with Alexis Knapp, who plays Stacie, and seeing how different they are -- that was super cool for me. I liked it a lot.

The cast is uniformly perfect for their roles -- especially Rebel's "Fat Amy." Did you tailor the characters for the actors following the casting process?
The casting was pretty fantastic. I thought there were a lot of roles that were difficult to cast and they did such a great job. Like you, I think everyone in the movie is really good. I think there's all these outside characters that had really small parts who are really good too. Like, Bologna Barb and Justin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse's sidekick [played by Jacob Wysocki]. They're so funny and so good. Very early on, I actually had Anna Kendrick in mind for Beca. Super early on. Then I kind of let it go. I wrote the first draft about four years ago, so things change. I was thinking of Michael Cera for the role of Jesse when I first started writing. Then, as the years go by, people change and get older and move onto other things. So, she was someone I had in mind.

But Rebel Wilson ... Fat Amy already existed as a character, but it's a real delicate thing to ask actresses to audition for that part. But Rebel and I had been Facebook friends before we ever met. She was a fan of "30 Rock" and she sent me a friend request, and I was like, "Aww, that's really interesting." Then I'm watching "Bridesmaids" in the theater and I'm like, "Wait a second, I'm Facebook friends with that real funny lady up there." So I sent Rebel a message saying, "There's this movie I wrote and there's a part in here." Again, being very delicate. Because Fat Amy has to be super confident, glamorous, comfortable in her skin, and all the amazing things that make up that character and be super funny. So I sent Rebel a message, like, "Read the script and tell me if it speaks to you or whatever." And luckily she had already received it from her manager. She got back to me and was like, "I think I would be smashing as Fat Amy."

The film does a great job of switching up some gender roles: Stacie calls her vagina a man, Beca doesn't act like a traditional female lead in a romantic comedy. Was blurring that line a top priority for you as a writer?
It was. The story is not a new story, right? It can be compared to a lot of other movies in terms of structure. There's a predictability to it. So, knowing that going in -- and not caring about that necessarily -- I wanted the script to be super funny with characters that you loved and wanted to watch for long periods of time. So it was a top priority to make it funny and not worry about female and male. Even though the story is girl versus boy, and the ladies are the underdog.

Knowing that young women are going to be drawn to this film, did you feel a responsibility to portray the characters as real human beings, with strengths and flaws?
I don't know if I've ever thought of it as a responsibility. I just really thought it was a good story. I'm a pretty competitive person and I was super excited to write a movie where it was a group of ladies doing and feeling what I felt growing up. But I don't know if I felt a responsibility. Maybe I should feel a responsibility? I guess in my head, I never thought of this -- which, this is bad on me and is why I'm not in marketing -- but I never thought until now, with the movie coming out, that this is for young ladies. I actually didn't think that. I was just trying to write a really funny movie that a bunch of people of both genders and all ages would like. Does it resonate with younger crowds and females? Absolutely. But what I'm hoping is that people who aren't a part of that demographic are going to the movie and it exceeds their expectations. Or it's a lot funnier than they thought and that they like it. I think there's something there for everyone.

"Pitch Perfect" really pushes the envelope for a PG-13 film. Were you ever told to pull things back?
It's funny you say that because we actually toned a lot down. It was far dirtier. It got an R-rating. I had to change like eight or nine jokes that kind of all came from the first act. I think I was really trying to be edgier for the reasons that we're talking about: I wanted it to be for a lot of different groups. I think when you go to these test screenings and there are jokes that might be a little bit risque in terms of PG-13, but if the audience laughs, it's hard for the studio to take that out. The response has been pretty great. I think when the audiences fill out those questionnaires, there haven't been any mothers that have complained about it being too dirty for their kids. The studio really listens and pays attention to that. If there are little things in there that are more risque, the laughs won. But just so you know, it was far diriter.

What was something that you had to cut out?
This is gonna sound really weird, but in the shower scene, where Beca asks Chloe if she knows David Guetta, and she's like, "Yeah, have I been under a rock? That's my lady jam." What used to be there is, "That's my diddle jam." The reason they didn't want "diddle" is because they didn't want a young girl to ask her mother what that meant. In my opinion, Chloe is with a guy in the bathroom and that's far worse than saying diddle! I think mothers should be having masturbation conversations with their daughters at a young age.

That scene features "Titanium," which is now a huge Top-40 hit. Was that song always there?
Actually, I put in a placeholder there. There were three different songs, but it was the music people who perfectly timed that out. They loved that song and knew when it was coming out. So they chose "Titanium" knowing the movie would come out around the same time. I think that's worked out perfect. It's a moment in the movie where I tear up. It sounds so pretty and that song is really great.

It is. Do you like Top-40 normally?
I love all kinds of music, so I'm onboard for all that. Also, I'm a huge fan of Ace of Base. "The Sign"? I love that song. That is my diddle jam.

Did The Foo Fighters Just Break Up?

Some curious news on the Foo Fighters front: Dave Grohl told a massive New York crowd that their Saturday show may have been their last.

"Without making a big deal out of it, we don't have any shows after this," Grohl said. "This is it, man. Honestly I don't know when we're gonna do it again ... and this is the perfect place to do it."

The band was performing in New York's Central Park as part of the Global Citizen Festival, a free show put on by the Global Poverty Project. The event was also streamed online (video of Grohl's comments is available above). Neil Young, the Black Keys and John Legend were among the other performers for the event, which drew a crowd of up to 60,000.

Grohl's comments may come as a surprise to fans, but it's not the first time the frontman has made such comments. The singer walked back a similar statement in August, when he told the audience at the Reading Festival that their performance there was "the last for a long time." He later tweeted that he was only referring to touring in England.

Seth Meyers: 'The Bachelorette' Is The Most Intense Show

What do "The Bachelorette" and "Breaking Bad" have in common? Seth Meyers' TV taste.

In an interview with Elle magazine, "Saturday Night Live" writer and player Seth Meyers admitted how emotional he gets over the ABC reality show.

"I watch ['The Bachelorette'] with my hands over my face, just peeking through my fingers," he said. "I can't believe how emotionally raw it is! Seriously, on Sunday nights [my girlfriend Alexi Ash and I] watch that and 'Breaking Bad.' I'm like, those are the two most intense shows on television."

But TV-watching isn't Meyers' only hobby these days: The comedian is busy covering the election on "Saturday Night Live." When asked who he would want to run for president, Meyers' answer was an easy one.

"Clint Eastwood would be fun to run," he joked to NBCUDirect.com. "But I think it would be best if Nic Cage would run for president."

Adele first hinted that she’d been offered the chance to sing the new 007 song in a chat with Jonathan Ross last year and suspicions mounted when she was spotted earlier this month visiting Abbey Road studios, where the soundtrack is being put together.

Showbiz 411 previously reported that they had heard part of the track, which they said would be launched in the first week of October.

It said the chorus contained the lyrics: "Let the sky fall/Let it crumble/We will stand tall/And face it all/together."

The song begins with a piano solo, followed by the lines: "This is the end/Hold your breath and count to ten/Feel the Earth move and then/Hear my heart burst again", the website said.

The world premiere of Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench and Javier Bardem, takes place in London on 23 October.

Happy World Vegetarian Day!

While we tip our hats to the meatless population every Monday, this upcoming week is particularly significant: October 1st is World Vegetarian Day, kick-starting Vegetarian Awareness Month.

Whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, or “weekday vegetarian," going veggie-friendly can be good for both your physical and mental health. Science Daily notes that a vegetarian diet is associated with low blood pressure and cholesterol, better heart health and even lower rates of cancer. In fact, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association), published a 2009 report lauding the benefits of a vegetarian or vegan diet:

It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes.

But being vegetarian doesn’t just make you physically fit; it might make you happier too. Despite research that suggests the omega-3 fatty acids found in some fish may protect you from the blues, going fish-free does not necessarily make you moodier. In fact, a 2010 study in the Nutrition Journal conducted by researchers at the University of Arizona found that “vegetarians reported significantly less negative emotion than omnivores.”

Staying away from bacon and steak can be a struggle, but if you choose to try you aren’t alone. From Bill Clinton to Natalie Portman, here are our some of our favorite vegetarian celebrities.

Maria Shriver Not Responding To Arnold's Tell-All

Arnold Schwarzenegger was happy to sit down last night with "60 Minutes" and talk about his tell-all memoir, "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story," discussing everything from his arrival in America to his marriage with American royalty, Maria Shriver, and the child with his housekeeper -- Arnold held nothing back.

However, Shriver is a very different story. She has not spoken out publicly about the end of her marriage, despite offers to do so from everyone from Oprah to her old bosses at NBC.

“We’ll have no comment,” Matthrew DiGirolamo, communications director for Maria Shriver told me, making it clear that Shriver would be saying nothing today or in the future about Arnold's new memoir.

“This must be a very painful time for her,” an old NBC colleague of Shriver's tells me. “Maria is a very private person who doesn’t enjoy seeing her personal life on television or in magazines. She has been offered every opportunity to tell her side of the story and it doesn’t surprise any of us that really know her, that she has declined all of them.”

Schwarzenegger, who told "60 Minutes" that Shriver had not read the book, continued to promote his book Monday on "CBS This Morning."

Ted Danson Honored For Ocean Advocacy

From Mother Nature Network's Michael d'Estries:

When you help steer the world's largest advocacy group for ocean conservation, you're likely to get some recognition along the way. So it's no surprise that GQ has finally gotten around to naming Ted Danson to its 2012 Gentlemen's Fund.

The initiative, now in its fifth year, was created by the lifestyle magazine as a means to raise awareness on issues that are important to modern men. Past celebrity ambassadors highlighted for their philanthropic work have included Ashton Kutcher, Adrian Grenier, Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel.

“The Gentlemen’s Fund is about ordinary men doing extraordinary things,” GQ publisher Peter Hunsinger said in 2009. “In these times when resources contract, needs escalate, and I am pleased that our sponsors and celebrity ambassadors are bringing awareness to our readers and finding ways for men to give back.”

Danson, who joins this year's other ambassadors, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and actor Kellan Lutz, is being honored for his work with Oceana, a group he helped create back in 2002.

In a new video that talks about his work with the organization, Danson says, “A third of what the world catches is thrown away dead or dying because it’s not the fish that they were after.” One third of all fish caught being bycatch is a pretty eye-opening statistic. For every two fish you see at the market, that means one was discarded as trash.

As for what it takes to be a GQ gentlemen, Danson says, “I think a gentlemen is more likely to step up and do the right thing in the moment. If the ego starts getting above the work you’re doing … then you lose your gentlemen’s badge for the day.” He asks other men to “start giving back now.”

Check out his video for The Gentlemen's Fund below.

A New Chapter For Klaine On 'Glee'?

Though future for Klaine on "Glee" looks bleak,tDarren Criss is hopeful for Blaine and Kurt (Chris Colfer).

Even if Blaine and Kurt move on to new beaus, Criss told TVLine he hopes the two would still be part of each other's lives.

"I would love to see them be a part of each other’s future relationships ... If Kurt meets someone new and they are having some problems, I hope Blaine is the person that Kurt calls and says, ‘This is really tough for me.’ And vice-versa. If Blaine meets somebody, he goes to Kurt."

Criss said he hopes "Glee" will show that Kurt and Blaine have a bond, regardless of what happens. "And I think that’s an excellent message to show young people: The end doesn’t mean it’s the end. It’s just a new chapter," he said.

However, fans should take note that EW reports there aren't any plans to introduce the mysterious Eli with whom Blaine cheated on Kurt with.

Colfer told TheInsider.com that he thought the break-up was very realistic. "People grow up and grow apart. You get busy and lose contact with people you love over time, not intentionally, it's just how life is sometimes," he said. "It also gives the story so many places to go now."

To help ease the pain of the dedicated "Glee" fans, Criss started a charity auction for tissue boxes signed by the stars.

"Glee" airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.

Michaele Salahi, Neal Schon Wedding In The Works?

Get ready, wedding crashers! Michaele Salahi, who gained notoriety in 2009 for crashing a White House state dinner, may not have known, but her boyfriend Neal Schon, is likely close to popping the question.

“He’s having a 11.42 carat diamond ring shipped to Florida that will then be delivered to him by armored car Friday morning,” a friend of Neal tells me. “Michaele has no idea yet, but he’s confident she will say yes.”

Michaele and her ex-husband, Tareq Salahi, signed a confidential divorce settlement in August after she left her husband for Neal. Tareq filed a $50 million personal injury suit against his ex and her new boyfriend that has since been dismissed.

“I’ve known Michaele for more than 15 years, having met her in the 1990s,” Schon told me a few months ago. “But nothing romantic ever happened between us, even though I secretly wanted it to, until she left her husband.”

The couple has not yet set a wedding date.
