Chris Rock: Divorce Can Leave You 'Sad Outta Your F*cking Mind'

Chris Rock is getting real about how hard divorce can be.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, the 50-year-old comedian -- who confirmed his separation from wife Malaak Compton-Rock in December -- opened up about how he's faring since the 19-year marriage ended.

“I’m doing OK," Rock told the paper. "You know, some days are better than others, some days you’re sad outta your f*cking mind. But my daughters are good and I’m only an hour away. Two houses close by. It’s good."

Rock also addressed whether or not joking about the difficulties of marriage in his stand-up and films harmed the relationship in any way.

“Hey, I’m getting divorced now,” he said with a laugh. (One of Rock's most famous marriage-related bits? "Marriage is so tough, Nelson Mandela got divorced -- he got out of jail after 27 years of torture, spent six months with his wife and said, ‘I can’t take this sh*t no more.'")

The former couple's divorce hasn't been the most peaceful one up to this point. According to divorce doc obtained by People, Rock claimed that his estranged wife had "repeatedly refused to permit [him] normal and usual access to the children, and has acted in a manner detrimental to the children's best interests."

In a statement released by her lawyer, Compton-Rock, a founder of two non-profits, denied the claims.

"We all know Chris leads a very busy public life while Malaak and their children definitely do not," her attorney said. "She hopes the privacy of their children is still as important to Chris as it is to her and that it will be respected. They will always be the main focus of her life."

Chris Rock: I Won't Be Alive To See Cops Stop Killing Black Kids

In support of the UK premiere of his flick, “Top Five,” comedian-actor Chris Rock conducted an interview with The Guardian, in which he shared his thoughts on everything from Hollywood’s ongoing diversity issues to Barack Obama’s presidency and police violence against black men in America.

During the interview Rock, who was pulled over by police on three separate occasions over the span of seven weeks, went on to reveal his feelings on America's string of fatal police encounters.

It’s not that it’s gotten worse, it’s just that it’s part of the 24-hour news cycle. What’s weird is that it never happens to white kids. There’s no evidence that white youngsters are any less belligerent, you know? We can go to any Wall Street bar and they are way bigger assholes than in any other black bar. But will I see cops stop shooting black kids in my lifetime? Probably not.

After a friend recorded a video of Merideth Puckett singing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," the young singer’s mom gave the OK to post it on Facebook figuring it’d get a few hundred views. It turns out she was about 16 million views off.

While Merideth has been performing at talent shows and at her local county fair over the years, her biggest break so far has been a viral video her friend, fellow singer Egypt Dixon, posted on April 4.

The video features Merideth belting out "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele with the karaoke version of the song playing from her iPhone in the background. Her 5-year-old sister Morgan provided some extra entertainment as Merideth put her vocal skills to the test. Since being posted on Facebook, the video has been viewed more than 16 million times. The same video was posted on Merideth’s YouTube channel and has racked up another 1.7 million views. It's also made international headlines in countries like Mexico, Sweden and more.

For Merideth, music is a passion. "I love how words flow into a melody when I sing, and I just get lost in the beat," she said in an email to The Huffington Post.

The young singer plans on using that passion along with the attention she's garnered online to start making music a part of her future. She plays the piano and is starting to learn the guitar. She’s also in talks with a producer from Nashville, Tenn., and a few people in management to see where her talent can take her.

"I plan on making music and possibly acting as part of my career when I get older for sure," she said. "It's my dream."

Look out, Music City. Pretty soon, you might have another incredible voice on your hands.

'Mad Men' & 'Game Of Thrones' Had No Time For People With Poor Grammar Sunday Night

One would normally assume that "Mad Men" and "Game of Thrones" have little in common, aside from the fact that both are television dramas that air back-to-back on Sunday nights. But this Sunday's episodes of both series had one very similar thread: if you don't have good grammar, you're going to get schooled.

Stannis Baratheon, the Rightful King of Westeros Grammar, and Don Draper both threw shade at the simpletons who spewed incorrect grammar in their presence on the most recent episodes of "GoT" and "Mad Men."

Stannis' grammar lesson:

Don's grammar lesson:

We're hardly surprised, though. Stannis the Mannis has corrected Ser Davos' grammar in the past (with the same "fewer" vs. "less" debate), and Don works with words on a daily basis. Moral of the story: all (mad) men must know proper grammar.

"Game of Thrones" airs on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO, followed by "Mad Men" at 10:00 p.m. ET on AMC.

Nigel Barker Talks 'Cookie Cutter' Beauty Standards

As a longtime fashion photographer and HeForShe advocate, Nigel Barker has a lot to say about the definition of beauty within the fashion industry, especially since his mother was a Sri Lankan model in the 1960s.

"Of course, if you think about the '60s and the '70s, there were very few people of ethnicities, of color, modeling and in pictures and in advertising. So that was a very tough time," he told host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani.

Growing up with such a "powerful, strong matriarchal figure" instilled some serious values about beauty standards in Barker.

She made me realize that if you push through and you struggle and you don't take 'no' for an answer, that you can make a difference. You can make people realize that the face of beauty doesn't have to be whitewashed, doesn't have to be a certain shape or size, doesn't have to be cookie cutter -- that you can change the stereotypes and you can make a difference.

The former "America's Next Top Model" judge also talked traditional gender expectations and how he is raising his children to break them -- starting in the kitchen.

"I bring my son into the kitchen with me and my wife and my daughter and we all cook together," he said. "We all do everything together and there is no you get this and you get that. You're blue and you're pink. You know, you get the cars and you get the dolls."

Why Sofia Vergara Says She'd Be ‘OK' With Losing Her Fame

Sofía Vergara is at the pinnacle of her career thanks to a handful of endorsement deals and her role as Gloria in ABC’s Emmy-winning series “Modern Family.” But the Colombian-born actress recently said she never expected to become an actress, much less famous.

Vergara, 42, is set to grace the cover of Cosmo for Latinas’ summer issue, out on newsstands May 19. In her interview with the magazine, the star spoke about why she wouldn’t mind losing her fame, and her experience as a Latina in Hollywood.

The “Modern Family” star has been TV’s highest-paid actress for three consecutive years. But her success, she says, is not something she ever expected or aimed for.

“Sometimes you want fame to go away a little bit, because you want to do normal things,” Vergara told Cosmo For Latinas. “I think I’m old enough that I’ve already enjoyed all of it, so if it goes away, I think I’m still going to be OK. It was never really what I was looking for -- it wasn’t even being an actress or being famous -- it was just supporting myself and making money and doing a business for myself.”

When asked about her thoughts on the lack of Latinos in Hollywood, the actress said the community should instead focus on the recent success of Golden Globe-winning “Jane The Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez and director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s big win at this year’s Academy Awards.

“There aren’t as many roles for Latinas as we would want there to be, but we shouldn’t be complaining because a Latin girl just won a Golden Globe, a Latin director just won an Oscar," Vergara told the magazine. “We should be very happy that there are people out there who are doing things and being recognized.”

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times earlier this month, however, Vergara did note that she feels there aren’t enough Latinos behind the scenes writing in Hollywood.

And the actress isn’t wrong about the numbers. “The Latino Media Gap,” a report released last June by Columbia University, found that between 2010 and 2013, only 2 percent of TV writers with a “critical position” were Latino.

“The problem is there aren't Latin people creating content,” Vergara told the newspaper. “Many of them are doing soap operas. It is a lack of Latin people writing. It's not the fault I think of an American writer. Usually when you write, you write what you know about. I admire the people who write for Gloria in ‘Modern Family.’ They're mostly men. Mostly they've had wives like Julie Bowen's character, but they've never had a Latin woman.”

On Thursday, Nina Dobrev will make her final appearance on the "The Vampire Diaries," after six years of playing Elena Gilbert.

It's an emotional time for the 26-year-old actress, who revealed she would not be returning for Season 7 back in April.

“I’ve loved working on this show. It’s been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I’ve been surrounded by so many people who I consider family. I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it’s going to be so strange not to be with them," Dobrev told Self magazine for their June cover story.

While saying goodbye to her star-making role has been difficult, Dobrev is excited for what lies ahead. The actress, who got her start on "Degrassi: The Next Generation," is first planning a cross-country road trip with six friends and is more than game to take on the new challenges that await her in her career. "I’m ready to put up that fight again. I’m excited to put up that fight," she told Self.

Actress Carla Gugino Refuses To Sleep Naked In California After 'Terrifying' 1994 Quake

While Carla Gugino may have once enjoyed the luxury of sleeping nude in the privacy of her home -- the practice now conjures up some "terrifying" memories for the actress.

In a HuffPost Live interview about her new role in "Wayward Pines," Gugino described her traumatic experience in the 1994 earthquake, which rocked the Los Angeles area back in 1994 and quite literally caught her with her pants down.

"I was living with my boyfriend at the time and I was not wearing any clothes. I was sleeping naked. And the earthquake happened it was the middle of the night and it was terrifying. I could not find my clothes," Gugino told host Nancy Redd on Monday.

Although Gugino eventually found something to wear -- a few morbid thoughts crossed her mind before she found her way to safety fully-clothed.

"I was like, 'I'm going to leave here and I am actually going to run out naked and die naked and there's nothing else I can do," she recalled.

Gugino says she's made some serious changes since that fateful day.

"I have never, in California, ever, slept without clothes on again," she said. "Yeah it's true. Once you have been scarred, in that way. Actually several people I know who were in that quake have the exact same story. So clearly everyone was sleeping naked and now no one is anymore in California."

The New Progressive Agenda: A Return to Citizenship

$

Editors' note: On Tuesday, May 12, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is unveiling his "Progressive Agenda to Combat Income Inequality," a 13-point plan framed as the political left's answer to Republicans' 1994 "Contract With America," in a speech outside the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Below, renowned novelist Toni Morrison reacts.

I applaud with enthusiasm this gathering of leaders, thinkers, activists, and artists, each and all committed to strategies of and for social progress.

The Progressive Agenda to Combat Income Inequality identifies the pillars upon which healthy social structures can be built. Each pillar is designed to improve, even save, the lives of vulnerable populations. Addressing everything from financial traps to failing schools to jobs to methods for strengthening families and communities, each pillar of support enhances the lives of the poor and middle class, which in turn benefits the whole society.

The solutions are not mysterious, not unknown, nor are the means by which to achieve them. We know what they are and how to apply them. There is simply, and too often, no will to organize and enact the agenda. But indifference and inaction stops here. With New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's insistence and foresight, along with the dedication and passion of serious progressives, vital changes in our cities and towns will surface.

Remember when we used to be called "citizens"? There were levels of citizenship, certainly, but we were citizens nonetheless. "I am an American citizen" was our proud boast. Then, following World War II, the prosperous decades began, and we were called "consumers." The American consumer wants; the American consumer needs -- and consume we did. Items that were once luxuries became necessities, and, unlike our great-grandparents, we were ashamed to have only one pair of shoes or one Sunday dress. Being a consumer is not without pleasure or comfort. Yet now we are identified by a brand-new label, one that floods political speech, pundit themes, and media headlines: "taxpayer." It seems that that definition is all we are.

The difference between understanding oneself as a citizen and understanding oneself as a taxpayer is not merely wide; it is antagonistic. A citizen thinks primarily about his or her community and is preoccupied with the safety of the neighborhood, the health of the elderly and disabled, the well-being of the young. A taxpayer thinks mostly about himself or herself, about who or what is taxing -- that is to say "taking" -- his hard-earned money to give to some undeserving body or some other distant, wasteful thing.

The Progressive Agenda seeks to return us to citizenship, the happily adult responsibility of being citizens to each other. It's concerned with how to ensure a livable wage for all of us; how to improve schools in all our neighborhoods; how to protect working-class jobs and pensions from predators who rely on exploitation and selfish behavior; how to welcome the immigrant, the "huddled masses" we all (except for Native Americans and slaves) once were.

This new Progressive Agenda reimagines citizenship and is far, far more than worthy; it is crucial.

Lee Daniels: 'I Hate White People Writing For Black People'

Earlier this year, director Lee Daniels managed to break records with the success of his show “Empire.” In addition to netting a cult-like following and record breaking ratings on Fox, the drama also changed the representation of black characters on television.

During a recent roundtable discussion explored in the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter, Daniels and five of drama television’s most notable writers and producers – including Beau Willimon (“House of Cards”), Damon Lindelof (“The Leftovers”), Alex Gansa (“Homeland”), Michelle King (“The Good Wife”), and Sarah Treem (“The Affair”) -- discussed various topics affecting their industry, including the lack of diversity in a majority of Hollywood’s writing rooms.

Daniels revealed his candid thoughts following the moderator's question on whether the panel felt more pressure to fill their respective shows and writers' room with a diverse group of talent following the success of “Empire.”

“I don't know what gives me more pleasure: watching my story unfold or going in and watching a room full of black people talking for me and writing words for black people,” he said. “I hate white people writing for black people; it's so offensive. So we go out and look specifically for African-American voices. Yes, it's all about reverse racism!”

Prior to “Empire’s” breakout season, the show was noted for having the most diverse writers rooms in network television with six of the nine writers being people of color.

“It wasn’t as if we sat down and said, ‘Let’s find the best African-American writers for this show,’” Francie Calfo, head of Imagine Television, the studio behind “Empire,” told Variety in January. “We were just looking for the best writers.”

Demi Moore Talks Divorce From Bruce Willis, How It Affected Daughters

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis seem to be model co-parents: the former couple, who divorced in 1998, appear to have remained chummy with each other -- and even their new spouses -- for the sake of their three girls.

But even the best parents can't entirely shield their kids from the effects of divorce. In an emotional new interview that aired on "Dancing With the Stars" Monday night, Moore got candid about the impact the divorce had on the kids, especially Rumer Willis, who's currently competing on the dance show.

"When their father and I decided to divorce, it probably had the biggest impact on her," Moore said of Rumer, now 26.

The struggle only got worse when Rumer was forced to deal with public scrutiny over her appearance in her teen years, Moore said.

"There really wasn't anything I could do to stop it," the "Ghost" actress said. "Her self-esteem was nothing. I could only just keep loving her and loving her until she could love herself."

She added: "One of the most beautiful things that I've witnessed [on the show] is watching her passion become greater than her fear. It has nothing to do with her being my kid or Bruce's kid, it has everything to do with just who she is."

Moore and Willis, 60, along with their two younger daughters, Scout, 23, and Tallulah, 21, have all supported Rumor as she competes with partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy on the dance show. Last month, younger sis Tallulah snapped a selfie of the family on the sidelines with Rumer:

Both Willis and Moore remarried after the split: Moore tied the knot with Ashton Kutcher in 2005, though the pair split in November 2011. Willis married model Emma Heming in 2009, and the pair welcomed their second daughter in May 2014.

Brad Bird Addresses The Missing Pizza Planet Truck In 'The Incredibles'

Any devout Pixar fan knows that the animation studio loves sprinkling hidden easter eggs throughout their films.

From the Luxo ball to the the "A113" code, Pixar movies are full of hidden gems. One of their most popular easter eggs is the appearance of the "Toy Story" Pizza Planet truck, which has been spotted in every Pixar film except "The Incredibles."

One viewer claims he found the yellow and white pick-up truck in Brad Bird's 2004 superhero film, but we're not convince. In an attempt to solve this Pixar mystery, The Huffington Post decided to ask the director himself.

While discussing Bird's upcoming sci-fi adventure "Tomorrowland," we asked Bird why the truck seemingly never appears in his animated film. "Oh, is that right?" he said. "I don’t know. I was busy making the movie. I didn’t think about the Pizza Planet, so I would not be surprised if it was not in there and I would not be surprised if somebody got it in there when they were building the sets."

So wait, it could be in there?! Bird said that he never specifically told the animation team to sneak in the truck or not. "I just had other things on my mind," he said with a laugh.

But there may still be hope for the return of the delivery truck. Bird confirmed that he's currently writing "Incredibles 2," after telling Collider last week that the sequel will be his next film. Maybe Bird's Edna Mode will have an itching for some pizza. "You never know," Bird said.

"Tomorrowland" opens on May 22.

Sofia Vergara To Star In Her Own Reality Show, Exclusively On Snapchat

Sofia Vergara is jumping on the celebrity reality bandwagon, but she’s doing it on her own terms.

The Colombian-born actress will star in “Vergaraland,” a six-episode series co-produced with Fusion, Variety reports. The series will be exclusively available on Snapchat this summer.

“Vergaraland” is planned as a humorous take on the actress’ life, as told by her 22-year-old son, Manolo González Vergara, according to Variety. The series will live in Snapchat’s Discover service, where media companies can post content that remains available to Snapchat users for 24 hours.

“Manolo finally graduated, and I am very happy for his alliance with Fusion to create such an innovative series,” Sofia Vergara said in a statement, according to Forbes.

It’s not the first time the “Modern Family” star has been the subject of a documentary-style series told from the perspective of her son. For years, Manolo has intermittently shot, produced and uploaded his YouTube Spanish-language series, “Mi Vida Con Toty” -- “My Life With Toty,” a reference to Vergara’s childhood nickname. The YouTube videos have featured birthday celebrations, the actress' relationship with Manolo’s father, and behind-the-scenes interviews with the “Modern Family” cast.

The 42-year-old star is currently television’s highest-paid actress, a title she’s held for three consecutive years. But in an interview with the Los Angeles Times earlier this month, Vergara lamented the lack of Latinos behind the scenes in Hollywood.

“The problem is there aren't Latin people creating content,” she said. “Many of them are doing soap operas. It is a lack of Latin people writing. It's not the fault I think of an American writer. Usually when you write, you write what you know about.”

“Vergaraland” will be produced with the help of her entertainment marketing firm Latin World Entertainment.

While the actress has had major success in front of the camera, Vergara has yet to make much of a splash with her own behind-the-scenes efforts. She had an executive producer credit on her recent buddy comedy, “Hot Pursuit,” which premiered last weekend with an underwhelming $13.3 million box office. The star was also an executive producer on the 2014 ABC series “Killer Women,” which was canceled before the end of its first season.

Nina Dobrev Finally Breaks Her Silence On Ex Ian Somerhalder's Wedding

Nina Dobrev isn't leaving "The Vampire Diaries" because of her breakup with co-star Ian Somerhalder, and she wants her fans to know that.

The 26-year-old actress will say goodbye after six seasons on the series come Thursday night, but don't think it has anything to do with her 2013 split from onscreen love interest Somerhalder.

"I've said this before, that we didn't break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn't love or friendship," Dobrev told E! News' Maria Menounos. "I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he's great and I care about him. And that didn't change. Yes, we're professional and that's fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now."

While the two did remain friendly after ending their more than three-year relationship two years ago, Dobrev has kept mum on her ex's recent marriage to actress Nikki Reed -- until now:

"When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful. They look happy and I am happy and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that. The drama is in the media, it's not with us," she said. "But of course, we're on a teen drama show, everyone's going to look for drama. If there's no drama, there's nothing to write about. I just ignore it."

Besides, as the actress told Self magazine, which she graces the cover of this month, she all about looking toward the future and embracing life post-"Vampire Diaries." "I’m ready to put up that fight again. I’m excited to put up that fight," she said.

Danielle Brooks Writes Powerful Essay On Body Image And Self Acceptance In Glamour

For “Orange Is The New Black” star Danielle Brooks, growing up in South Carolina as an aspiring actress had its challenges.

The Julliard graduate recently wrote a powerful essay for Glamour detailing her body image insecurities and accepting herself as a dark-skinned, natural haired girl. "By the standard definition of beauty I had absorbed from the world around me, I had three strikes against me: I was too dark, too curly, and too fat," she writes in Glamour. Brooks describes the dark place these insecurities led her:

Because of this insecurity, I was desperately unhappy. I was even having suicidal thoughts. But you wouldn’t have known it. The world saw a young teenage girl who was happy in her skin, laughed a lot, and didn’t care what anyone thought about her. The truth of the matter was I wasn’t happy in my skin; I laughed to hide my pain, and cared deeply what my peers thought of my appearance -- to the point that I even was having suicidal thoughts. But you wouldn’t have known it.

The 25-year-old goes on to explain the first time she was told there was something "wrong" with her body -- a moment familiar to so many women:

I didn’t always feel so self-conscious. As a young girl, I was always a healthy kid but never a skinny kid. I didn’t know that there was anything “wrong” with my body until I was in middle school and a woman from church felt the spirit move her to tell me. As I walked home from Bible study one Wednesday night, she stopped me and exclaimed, “Danielle you’ve got stretch marks on your arms!” and proceeded to take her pointer finger and identify the four or five tiny lines that were starting to form. She continued, “You’re too young to be getting stretch marks,” though she was covered in them herself. And that’s when the cycle of judging myself began.

Brooks embarked on a "long road to learning to love myself again," she writes. "I dreamed of being an actor, but when I looked for reflections of myself on the screen, I found few. Still, I found inspiration in the words of Sharon Flake and the music of India Arie. I took acting classes, where I felt free and accepted."

Since her rise to stardom for her role in "Orange Is The New Black," Brooks admits the spotlight has threatened to shake her hard-earned body confidence. But preserving that confidence, she writes, isn't just for her. "Ideally, I want to see all beauties, all shapes, all sizes, all skin tones, all backgrounds represented in my profession," she writes. "Now that I am blessed to be that reflection I was once looking for, I’m making a promise to speak out for that little girl that I used to be."

Meghan Trainor, whose hit single "All About That Bass" celebrates curvy figures and berates the media for photoshopping women's bodies, appears digitally slimmed down in photos sent out by the clothing line Ted Baker.

Trainor appeared conspicuously skinnier in photos released Monday by the company than in shots available from Getty Images showing the voluptuous singer in a pencil skirt by Ted Baker at a recent red carpet event. Yahoo Beauty and other outlets reported.

Trainor looked thinned-out look because of the editing process to format the pictures in press release email, a Ted Baker representative claimed in a typo-laced statement to Yahoo.

"Our LA based agency did not Photoshop or intentionally alter images in anyway [sic]. We are absolutely mortified by this story as we hold our relationship with Trainor in high regard and we are thrilled that she is a loyal fan of Ted Baker," a company spokesperson wrote. "[...] Multiple low resolution images of the singer in a Ted Baker pencil skirt were imbedded [sic] in an email pitch. The photos were cropped and reduced in size in order to fit into the email and were not intended to be published in this watermarked format."

Trainor and Ted Baker didn't respond to The Huffington Post's inquiries.
