'Painfully Awkward' Rob Lowe Commercial Under Fire From Shy Bladder Support Group

DirecTV's new commercials featuring Rob Lowe alongside bizarre alternate versions of himself are being attacked by an organization that claims one of the ads is mocking a serious health problem.

The spot above centers around "Painfully Awkward Rob Lowe," a fanny-pack wearing version of the actor who says he can't "go" with other people around. But the International Paruresis Association says shy bladder is a real phobia, not something to mock.

"We don't mind if people have a little fun with it," Steve Soifer, the organization's CEO, told The Associated Press. "It's a situation that a lot of people don't understand. In this particular case, the portrayal is making it look ridiculous, that this guy is a loser for having a problem."

The organization says 21 million Americans suffer from the condition, which is more formally known as avoidant paruresis.

"Often referred to as Pee-Shy, Shy-Bladder, Bashful Bladder, etc., avoidant paruresis is nothing to be ashamed of," the group says on its website.

Soifer is calling on DirecTV to pull the plug on the commercials, but the provider was pretty direct with its response.

“The ads will continue to run for the vast majority of viewers who have told us they enjoy the spots and understand that, like all of our commercials, they take place in a fantasy world and are not based in reality,” DirecTV spokesman Darris Gringeri told AP.

Lowe himself weighed in on Twitter:

Other commercials in the series feature Super Creepy Rob Lowe, Crazy Hairy Rob Lowe and Far Less Attractive Rob Lowe.

In each case, the real Rob Lowe enjoys DirecTV, while the bizarre versions of him suffer with cable TV.

Channing Tatum Wants You To Know He Was Never A Junkie

America's most beloved former stripper, Channing Tatum, is recalling the days when he took his clothes off for money as art imitates life once again while he films "Magic Mike XXL."

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor doesn't make the gig he took on at age 19, after he dropped out of University of South Florida, seem particularly glamorous. Tatum admits that on a good night he'd only make about $150, but he was attracted to the hard partying and heavy drinking that accompanied the lifestyle.

"I wouldn't say I was losing myself in drugs because I wasn't doing anything habitually. Just experimenting," he told the magazine. "Experimenting, I would say. Never the big ones -- crack or heroin. I never OD'd or anything. Never."

What about cocaine, Channing?

"Maybe a couple times, but that was later," he explained. "Drinking was probably the biggest [thing]. I didn't look at drinking as a problem. It wasn't at that point, and I still don't think it's a problem. But at that time in my life, it was, 'Let's go out and have a great time.'"

While on the subject, the 34-year-old took the opportunity to clarify what he meant when he referred to himself as a "high-functioning alcoholic" in an interview with GQ in May.

"It was something said that wasn't meant to be factual. It was said in context with the glutton side of myself," he told THR. "I'm constantly a flip-and-flop of extremes. I take care of it, to an extent -- and then I kind of knock it all down and destroy the sand castle. All I meant was that I do things in extreme."

Backstage, Papworth presented Sheeran, 23, with an engagement ring, which he accepted.

Sheeran also signed a picture she drew for him. "Katie, lovely to finally meet my wife," he wrote on the drawing.

The Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation, an organization working to help children dealing with life-threatening illnesses, orchestrated the meeting and later thanked Sheeran on Facebook, posting a photo of the singer with Papworth, her mom and her caregiver.

Snooki And JWoww Talk Post-Pregnancy Sex: Vagina Is 'Like A Black Hole

It seems like every time a former "Jersey Shore" cast member stops by HuffPost Live, sex comes up — particularly sex post-pregnancy.

In an August interview with HuffPost Live, Jenni "JWoww" Farley said she wouldn't have sex for "a year or two" after childbirth. Farley and fellow "Jersey Shore" alum Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi swung by HuffPost Live for another chat Wednesday — the two are finishing up filming "Snooki & JWoww: The Farewell Season" at the moment — and reinforced some of the grim details of post-pregnancy sex life.

"It's like, worse than being a virgin," JWoww said. "It's like a black hole."

Farley said she waited about seven weeks after having her first child to get back in the sheets with her fiance Roger. Polizzi said she made the terrible mistake of "looking down there" after the birth of her first child, which "scarred" her.

"The only time I'm going to have sex is if I want to have a baby again," Polizzi said.

Snooki And JWoww Were Drunk For Most 'Jersey Shore'-Related Interviews

In November 2011, a still-poofy-haired, still-"Jersey Shore"-ified Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi said in an interview with Conan O'Brien that she used cat litter — yes, cat litter — to exfoliate her face. Three years later, Polizzi has zero recollection of the moment.

"I was probably drunk saying that," she told HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker on Wednesday. "I have no recollection of saying that."

Polizzi and fellow former "Jersey Shore" cast member Jenni "JWoww" Farley stopped by the show to chat about the upcoming season of their latest series, "Snooki & JWoww." The pair said that they often went on set with these shows drunk off their newfound fame -- and actual alcohol.

"Literally, it was like a time of our lives. Like going on the show, we never thought we'd be on Jimmy Kimmel and Conan. It was crazy," Polizzi said. "So obviously when we got there, they'd offer you drinks. We're like, 'Yeah, why not? Let's make a party out of it.' Yeah, for most of all my interviews I was drunk for 'Jersey Shore.'"

Farley backed up the claim: "True story," she said.

A 'Lemony Snicket' Series Is Coming To Netflix

Millennials: prepare to freak out. Lemony Snitcket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, one of the most beloved children's books from the late '90s (Harry Potter aside, of course) is being adapted into an original series for Netflix. The books followed the constantly disastrous lives of the Baudelaire orphans: Violet, Klaus and Sunny. Since they're parents were mysteriously killed in a fire, the orphans are forced to live with Count Olaf, their cousin/uncle who goes through any means necessary to steal their inheritance.

Netflix plans to adapt the series of 13 novels into a live-action show, in partnership with with Paramount Television. Paramount was also behind the 2004 movie of the same name starring Jim Carrey and Emily Browning. BuzzFeed caught up with Daniel Handler, the mysterious author who wrote the books under the pen name Snicket. He told them that he's working closely with Netflix to find a director for the series. And his dream casting for Count Olaf? British actor James Mason, circa 1949. Mason died in 1984, so that's not happening, but one can dream.

Handler is currently on tour for his new book series All The Wrong Questions, a prequel to A Series of Unfortunate Events. Until we know more about the Netflix series, just hope that you have better luck than the Baudelaires.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Suge Knight has pleaded not guilty to a robbery charge filed over an incident in which a celebrity photographer accused the Death Row Records founder of stealing her camera.

The 49-year-old appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Wednesday and had his bail set at $500,000. He was arrested in Las Vegas last week and fell while in jail, and his attorneys said he bruised his head and neck.

Knight and comedian Katt Williams were charged with robbery Oct. 29. Both are accused of taking the photographer's camera in Beverly Hills on Sept. 5.

Beverly Hills police say they are still investigating the incident.

Knight could go to prison for 30 years to life if he is convicted.

Williams has not yet been arraigned. He could face up to seven years behind bars.

Host and triple-nominee Carrie Underwood looked radiant at the 2014 CMA Awards at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old singer, who is expecting her first child with husband Mike Fisher, rocked a custom hand-beaded gold ombre gown featuring a high-low skirt by Lorena Sarbu on the red carpet, one of many looks she's presumed to wear over the course of the evening. Underwood is co-hosting the show with Brad Paisley for the seventh time.

"I definitely have outfit ADD," Underwood told Seth Meyers of her infamous onstage wardrobe changes. "We'll see [if I change a lot] ... we're figuring that out within the next couple of days."

As for pregnancy, Underwood is still adjusting to it all.

"It's still kind of weird, to be honest," Underwood said of impending motherhood on the "Today Show." "Sometimes I'll be with my husband and it's like, 'I'm gonna be a mom. You're gonna be a dad. Is this real life?'"

Blake Shelton is one lucky man.

His wife and country music sensation Miranda Lambert stunned in a low-cut pale pink gown on the CMA Awards red carpet at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Wednesday night. The 30-year-old, who is nominated in nine categories (more than any other artist this year), accessorized her look with a chic retro hairdo, silver clutch and maroon lip.

"I don't think it's set in that I have nine nominations," Lambert told Rolling Stone Country. "When I heard that, I sort of had to think back in my mind: 'What have I done this year to deserve all of this?' I started thinking about everything we have done, and putting out a record and all of that. It just feels like every time you get on the bus and you're gone for 18 straight days and you're away from your family and your husband, it's not for nothing. It matters, and people are paying attention."

Lambert's album "Platinum" earned her rave reviews and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 180,000 copies in its first week back in June.

Nicole Kidman looked lovely as she supported her husband Keith Urban at the 2014 CMA Awards on Wednesday at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

The 47-year-old actress wowed in a white gown while Urban rocked an all-black ensemble. The country crooner is up for multiple awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year.

Kidman recently opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about her marriage to Urban, revealing that he "literally carried" her after her father died in September.

"He has been so good to me for nine years, but for the last month, which has been a really tough time for me … he's been amazing," she explained. "To have my husband just step up that way … it makes me cry. We all go through hard times in our lives, but to be literally carried by your partner, and physically, at times, because I was so devastated. I'll do anything for that man."

Brad Paisley And Carrie Underwood Poke Fun At Taylor Swift During CMA Awards

For the seventh year in a row, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood hosted the CMA Awards, and their opening monologue was hilarious, as usual.

This year, the duo took aim at fellow country stars including George Strait, Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton. But the pair got the whole crowd laughing when they discussed "Postpartum Taylor Swift Disorder," which of course references Swift's move from country to pop music with her new album "1989." Paisley and Underwood penned a little jingle about Swift, singing, "Who's going to fill her shoes? Who's going to stand that tall? Who's going to be country and poppy and sing a song called 'Tim McGraw?'"

Still, the country superstars shared their congratulations with their friend and ended the bit with: "Country music's just going to have to shake it off." Clever guys, very clever.

Paisley and Underwood also took on the Ebola hysteria and sang their own version of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" called "Quarantine," calling out nurse Kaci Hickox from Maine for riding her bike while under a "voluntary" quarantine order.

And of course, they shared some jokes about Underwood's pregnancy, with Paisley joking that he knows the sex of her unborn baby.

"I know something you all don't know, suck it TMZ!"

AC/DC Drummer Phil Rudd Charged With Attempting To Procure A Murder

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — The drummer for rock band AC/DC has been charged in New Zealand with attempting to procure murder.

Phil Rudd on Thursday made a brief appearance at the Tauranga District Court before being released on bail.

The 60-year-old has also been charged with threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.

One of his bail conditions is that he must not have any contact with anyone involved in the alleged plot.

Neither Rudd's lawyer nor a publicist for the band could be immediately reached for comment.

Court staff say Rudd is due to make a second appearance Nov. 27, although that date could change.

Rudd and the other members of AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Phil Rudd, AC/DC Drummer, Accused In Murder Plot

Life may be imitating art in New Zealand, where AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd is being accused of trying to order up a dirty deed.

Rudd, 60, has been charged with "attempting to procure a murder," according to reports. He has also been charged with possession of methamphetamine and cannabis, and threatening to kill, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Police said Rudd attempted to hire a hitman to kill two men, according to Stuff.co.nz. During a court appearance on Thursday, Judge Louis Bidois withheld the names of the would-be victims as well as that of the man Rudd allegedly tried to procure for the deed.

Rudd did not enter a plea, was released on bail and ordered to have no contact with the man he allegedly tried to hire. He is scheduled to be in court again in three weeks, Stuff reported.

Journalist Tony Wall, who has been tweeting images from the scene, said Rudd faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Earlier in the day, police raided his home in Tauranga, about 125 southeast of Auckland.

Former AC/DC manager Michael Browning told the Daily Mail that the accusations were a "bit of a shock, but there you go."

Born Phillip Hugh Norman Witschke Rudzevecuis in Australia, Rudd was with the band from 1975 until being fired in 1983, then re-joined in 1994. Having played on many of the band's biggest hits, he was among the members inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

He most recently released a solo album, "Head Job," and in September told Blabbermouth he expected to tour with AC/DC after the release of the band's upcoming album, "Rock or Bust."

However, last month the band posted a new publicity photo without Rudd. He also did not appear in two videos recorded for "Rock or Bust." While singer Brian Johnson said Rudd was absent from the photo shoot due to a “family emergency," Ultimate Classic Rock reported on speculation that the photo was a sign Rudd had been booted from the band again.

AC/DC most recently made headlines when co-founder and guitarist Malcolm Young retired. His family later said that Young had been battling dementia.

'American Horror Story: Freak Show' Episode 5 Recap: What You See Isn't What You Get

*** WARNING: Contains spoilers! Please do not read on unless you've seen Episode 5 of "American Horror Story: Freak Show," titled "Pink Cupcakes." Or if you don't mind spoilers, go right ahead! ***

Too many fake-outs. The dreaded ha-ha-made-you-think-they-were-dead ploy has been used before on "American Horror Story," but never more than once per episode, and never this haphazardly. I mean, really. The entire first scene at the American Morbidity Museum is the figment of Stanley's imagination, what he envisions to happen when he manages to destroy the freak show. Then we get the incredibly cruel fake-out with Bette and Dot, which surely struck fear into the hearts of "AHS: Freak Show" fans everywhere. (Not like it matters, because we see Bette and Dot for a total of five minutes this episode anyway.)

Much of the focus is on Dell and Desiree, whose relationship got considerably more complicated -- turns out he's a closet gay man, not to mention a closeted freak, and she's actually 100 percent woman. Dell is being set up to be a bad guy, full of rage and aggressiveness, and we see two instances of his possessiveness, once with a barely there Matt Bomer (R.I.P.) and again with Desiree when she walks out on him. It isn't even about love (though Dell might think it is), but about ownership. What's his is his, even though he's obviously not even interested in Desiree. Thank goodness for Angela Bassett's acid tongue, or else this storyline would have been like paint drying. At times it felt like I was watching some two-bit daytime drama, not "AHS." We come here for blood, gore and ridiculousness, not this sentimental stuff.

Jimmy and Maggie continue to dance around each other, though they're still managing to follow the traditional forbidden love cliche: boy and girl from different worlds, resistant at first, but you know they're going to get together eventually. The fact that the two actors are together in real life also makes their hook-up an inevitable thing. I'd rather "AHS" just cut to the chase and have it happen, already. Then we can get to the part where a jealous Bette and Dot do everything in their power to split them up, in the process discovering Maggie and Stanley's identities and exposing them. Yes, that's where I see the plotline heading. I just hope it doesn't take until Episode 12 for it to happen.

Least interesting of all is Elsa's storyline; after she chokes on stage (no encores for her!), Stanley manages to convince her to want her own TV show, through him. While it's fun to listen to the tongue-in-cheek diatribe against TV and its corruptive, cheap appeal, it just fell flat. In the end, there's no way Stanley is going to outwit Elsa. "AHS" made that painfully clear when Stanley accidentally dropped all of his nudey-man magazines. His one "weakness" -- that he likes men -- is splayed out for all to see, and is there to remind us that he has secrets. Stanley can be blackmailed just like the rest of them, and again, that's something which is obviously going to happen eventually. Will he hook up with Dell, too? With Matt Bomer dead, Dell might be lonely enough to latch onto the next available male body. We still don't know what's going on in Stanley's pants, and we'll probably find out through Dell.

Can we praise Frances Conroy, who very plainly saved this episode? In every season of "AHS," the woman outdoes herself with that voice and that hair and those eyes. My kingdom for an entire episode of her insane dialogue, which never ceases to make me smile. Paired with Finn Wittrock, it's a match made in heaven. Wittrock turns in another fantastic performance as Dandy: one minute pristine, lying around in his tighty-whiteys, the next staring sternly into the camera, smouldering intensity personified. Gloria states that he's "like his father before him," blaming incest and her own poor parenting for the way Dandy has turned out. Any bets on Dandy being Bloody Face's grandfather, father, or other relation?

In any case, the scene where Dandy stabs Matt Bomer to death is too much, too late. "AHS" is obsessed with grotesque stabbing chest deaths this season, and I don't know why. But to drag this particular murder on and on was actually bordering on distasteful. Even when Twisty stabbed that teenager earlier in the season it wasn't this bad. It's as if "Freak Show" was trying to make up for the dull plodding of the rest of the plot with a grisly murder and two fake-outs. Yes, we get to see Seal Boy and Bette and Dot encased in formaldehyde and out on display in the museum, which is cool, but it's not real. Twisty's death has left a gaping hole in the middle of "Freak Show," and it's almost as if the showrunners are trying to find some way to replace the scary, creepy factor. Dandy is a good villain, but they need to pick up the pace and up the variety of murders. There should be no more stabbing deaths for the rest of the season. That should be a rule.

And where does Elsa take Bette and Dot at the end of the episode? To Gloria's, where I assume she's going to sell the two-headed woman. This is a benefit for Bette and Dot, at least so they can be away from the freak show and not the next target for Stanley, but it's also a detriment. The mixing of the three (two?) -- Bette, Dot and Dandy -- should make for some interesting scenes. With Gloria as the sprinkles on top, this could be real magic. But this is "AHS." Anything can turn on a dime.

Until next week, when I hope I have more exciting things to write about than stuff that didn't even happen.

Freak Of The Week: Let's give it to Desiree. Why? 1) Who needs cleavage when you have a third boob wrapped in red sequins? And 2) her medical story is actually pretty awesome. I swear, every visit to that doctor is so heartwarming. A shame what happened to his hands.

Random Thoughts:
  • Even though I know they're poison, I still want a pink cupcake.

  • Hello, Gabourey Sidibe! It's only a matter of time before you show up at Gloria's. That should be fun.

  • "They're special bulbs from Holland! Don't question me!"

  • Elsa's tent is straight-up ridiculous. It's bigger than my apartment.

  • "My body is America."

  • How, exactly, did Dandy get home during the daytime in his underwear, covered in blood? C'mon now. We know Jupiter is oblivious to evil-looking clowns, but a dude who looks like Carrie after the prom? Please.

  • No man bum for anyone, but surely enough men in scanty underwear. Oh, Ryan Murphy.

David Chase Is Talking About A 'Sopranos' Prequel Again

While discussing the Blu-ray release of the HBO series with the Associated Press, "The Sopranos" creator David Chase was asked about the possibility of a prequel to the series. According to the New York Daily News, Chase was "intrigued" by the idea, and he "wouldn’t mind exploring the era before the show began." But it would be very different from the crime drama we know and love.

“Even if I did it, it wouldn't be 'The Sopranos' that was on the air -- obviously at least one person is gone that we would need,” Chase told the AP, referring to James Gandolfini, who died last year. Chase said he'd be most interested in exploring the '60s and early '70s in Newark, New Jersey, and "all the racial animosity, or the true beginning of the flood of drugs.”

Discussion of a prequel to the series first began in 2012 when Chase said he'd want to base such a project on "Tony’s father, and Uncle Junior, and Livia -- Tony’s mother." He touched on the topic again earlier this year when he said he would "maybe do a prequel" or even a movie.

It's safe to assume, however, that Chase was speaking hypothetically and to not take his comments too seriously. Last time the showrunner's words were taken out of context regarding Tony Soprano's fate in the series finale, the Internet went a bit wild. Chase later had to issue a statement for clarification.

If you're still needing a "Sopranos" fix though, you might as well revisit Chase's favorite episodes.

This may be Bette Midler's most magical performance since "Hocus Pocus."

On Wednesday's "Tonight Show," Midler decided she wanted to interview herself, as guests of the show are prone to do from time to time, so she and Jimmy Fallon flipped lips.

Everything that followed was pretty amazing, but the best part came during Fallon and Midler's duet on "Baby It's You" by the Shirelles. We're pretty confident in saying you've never seen it sung like this before.

These Are The Best Parts Of 'Interstellar'

$
0
0
"We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars," Matthew McConaughey says in the first act of "Interstellar," Christopher Nolan's new epic adventure. "Now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt." That sentiment is what propels "Interstellar," a movie about a near future where Earth is down to its last crop (corn), the atmosphere is suffocated with dirt clouds and humanity's capacity for exploration has been pounded into dust. Enter McConaughey's Coop, a former pilot, and the last remnants of NASA (embodied by Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway), all of whom team up to find the residents of Earth a new home planet. (That's the other key theme in "Interstellar": "Mankind was born on earth. It was never meant to die here.") Hype for "Interstellar" has been building for months, but does Nolan's latest blockbuster deliver? It kind of does! But not in the ways you might expect. Ahead, the four most effective parts of "Interstellar."

Renesmee From "Twilight" Is Better Than Jessica Chastain

mackenzie foy

Jessica Chastain is a great performer -- and she's got a couple of really affecting moments in "Interstellar" -- but she's not even the best actress playing her own character in the movie. That title belongs to Mackenzie Foy ("The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn"), who plays Chastain's Murph as a youngster. Foy has a lot of heavy emotional scenes with McConaughey, who plays her dad, and those bits act as a foundation for what Chastain does later. She's a revelation, and while not as highly touted as Chastain, McConaughey and Hathaway, it's the 13-year-old star who gives the film's best performance.

That Water Planet Is Dope

You know what's cool? Giant waves that look like mountains. The water planet, glimpsed in the above trailer, even allows Nolan to make a vague "Star Wars" reference: "Those aren't mountains, they're waves," says Coop, with a tone that recalls Obi-Wan.

The Ambition Is Contagious

interstellar

It's dumb when people compare movies to roller coasters, because roller coasters move and movies do not. But "Interstellar" is so immersive that it does feel like a theme park ride. That's cool! It's an ambitious movie, stuffed with ideas both smart and silly and visuals that might make audience members dizzy (especially on an IMAX screen). It's rare that a filmmaker takes such a big swing in this era of homogenized blockbusters. Love "Interstellar" or merely feel like it's the equivalent of the shrug emoticon, Nolan's mere attempts here are reason enough to enjoy it.

Finally, A Movie That's Pro-Humanity

interstellar

So often, movies about the end of the world focus on the evil that springs up from the chaos. Not "Interstellar," which treats our impending doom in a relatable way and makes a case that humankind is truly exceptional. Sure, our own failings led to the situation at hand in the first place, but who better than a scrappy bunch of people to clean up the mess? "Interstellar" believes in the best of us, even when we're being the worst. That's commendable in 2014. "Why not us?" "Interstellar" asks. Well, why not?
