See If You Can Get Through These National Anthem Fails Without Cringing

0
0
There are so many reasons to be a proud American this Fourth of July, but man, these national anthem fails aren't any of them.

R. Kelly, 2005
R.Kelly doesn't forget the lyrics or butcher his notes, so where does he go wrong? We'd say around 1:45, when he instructs the crowd to clap their hands to this cringeworthy National Anthem remix.

Kat DeLuna, 2008
Remember Kat DeLuna? She had that one dancehall song, "Whine Up?" Anyways, after you see her over-the-top, off-key version of the National Anthem and the chorus of boos that she receives at the end of her performance, it'll come as no surprise that her career never really took off.

Michael Bolton, 2003
Okay, so the weird echo that starts happening at the 0:20 minute mark is probably out of Bolton's control. But the ridiculously obvious glance he takes at the lyrics he stashed on his hand? Bolton, that's all you, dude.

Scott Stapp, 2005
Leave it to NASCAR to book the lead singer of Creed to sing the National Anthem. Stapp's gutteral, grungy rocker voice doesn't exactly mesh well with the traditional anthem.

Jesse McCartney, 2009
Forgetting the words to the National Anthem is a rookie mistake, but it definitely happens. Forgetting the words two lines into the song? Yeah, that's pretty bad.

Christina Aguilera, 2011
This one's especially frustrating because we all know Aguilera has the pipes to pull this off. The pop diva first trips up the lyrics, and then comes up short for her final note. Yikes.

In Honor Of The Fourth Of July, Here Are Celebrities In Red, White And Blue Bikinis

Let's hear it for the red, white and blue!

Whether you're on the beach, at the pool or enjoying a backyard summer barbecue, the Fourth of July is a momentous, and relaxing, holiday. When else can you belt out "God Bless America" while lighting up a sparkler and watching a firework show?

So with that being said, here are celebrities rocking red, white and blue bikinis in honor of Independence Day, because:

10 Times Bruce Springsteen Made Us Proud To Be Born In The U.S.A

It's Fourth of July weekend, and if you're not at a barbecue where The Boss is blasting on the stereo, you're: 1. Definitely not in New Jersey and 2. At the wrong party.

Now, before we go full throttle into a Bruce Springsteen love fest, let's get one thing out of the way. While "Born In The U.S.A." may sound like a patriotic ode to 'Merica, it's actually much darker than that. Springsteen wrote the song about a working-class Vietnam veteran who feels isolated from the government and his fellow countrymen. In a 1984 Rolling Stone interview, Springsteen revealed that he thought "the country took advantage of their [Vietnam Veterans'] selflessness."

Buuuuut that's pretty heavy for a July Fourth celebration, so let's resume with 10 times Bruce made us feel proud to be born in the U.S.A:

When he absolutely crushed his performance at our nation's favorite unofficial holiday, the Super Bowl, in 2009:

And did a full on knee-slide into the camera, because he just doesn't care:

When he bestowed upon us the hottest Americana album cover this world has ever seen in 1984:

And again with the hottest Rolling Stone cover, on which he was named the voice of the decade:

When he casually chilled with President Obama and Jay Z like it was no biggie before a rally in Columbus:

When he carried the weight of a child on his shoulders (no, really):

When he most literally inspired this girl's entire life:

When he auctioned the shirt and guitar off his back and raised $160,000 for injured veterans:

When he proved he's still got it by crowd surfing into the audience:

And then chugging a fan's beer because, well, he can:

So thanks Bruce. As a nation, we salute you.

Jessica Alba looks stunning on British GQ's August issue, rocking a modest blue, one-piece swimsuit.

"I have to enhance what I like about my body and my stomach is good," she tells British GQ. "My legs I'm not as excited about all the time, but I wouldn't cover up my stomach. That's what women do: enhance what we've got."

Alba displayed her bikini body in the 2005 movie "Into The Blue," in which she co-starred alongside the late Paul Walker. The actress discusses her friend's death in the magazine, saying Walker "had a real childlike innocence and he was game to try anything or do anything."

"He treated everyone with respect and love," she explains. "He was never treating anybody differently because of who they were. He was really a guy's guy. And he loved his daughter so much and talked about her all the time. He never cared about Hollywood. He never cared about the hype."

The new issue of British GQ is out on July 7 and also available as an interactive digital edition.

Country Star Jake Owen Has The Right Attitude About The Music Business

0

Some artists climb their way up the music charts naturally, while others get by with a little help from their musician friends. Country star Jake Owen thinks the latter is always a good way to do it.

"It’s important in any format of music to embrace your peers," Owen told HuffPost Entertainment while promoting Discover Boating, a national campaign powered by the North American recreational boating industry. "I think a lot of people would come up with the idea that they shouldn’t try and help other people out because it’s a fight for your own place on the charts, but I enjoy helping people and promoting good vibes because I feel like it all comes back around. No matter what artist you are or whatever genre of music you’re in, we only have such a short window of time to make our mark, and at the end of it, all you have left is your character," he continued. "I’d rather have great character than a long line of big hit songs that no one remembers 20 years from now."

Owen, who has released hit songs like "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," "The One That Got Away" and most recently "Beachin,'" off his latest album "Days of Gold," chatted with HuffPost Entertainment about his career, his family life and what it takes to write a smash summer anthem.

How did you get started in country music?
I started playing in college. I had actually hurt my shoulder and I had nothing else to do and a buddy of mine had a guitar in his closet, so I started learning how to play at Florida State. I was playing at fraternity and sorority parties, or wherever they would have me, and that’s kind of how I got started. And then I got bored of playing by myself, so I started a band and after playing with a band for a few years, that’s when I decided I really need to move to Nashville and do my own thing. So, I left college with nine hours of school left and moved to Nashville. And the rest is history.

You have this beachy, summer vibe going on. How did you figure out where you wanted to fit within the country music scene?
I don’t think I originally had [that vibe]. Originally, I was just excited to be a kid with a record deal and be on the radio and touring with people that I looked up to my whole life –- Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. I was a fan and I got to travel the country with these guys that I admired. But as the years went by, I realized that it’s important to have some sort of brand identity. And I was always trying to hide the fact that I was born and raised in Florida, but after I released songs like “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” and wrote songs like “The One That Got Away,” with the lyrics, “She rolled in, my little sandy town …” my Florida roots started to show themselves and now, it works out.

Florida Georgia Line are huge now, too, thanks a little bit to you. Tell me about that friendship.
I can’t really say I helped them other than I took them out on tour with me and told a lot of people about them. It’s really cool to see how big their careers have become. They have well over a million Twitter followers now and it’s just funny to think that not even a year and a half ago those guys didn’t even have 10,000!

Is there anyone that you’d love to work with?
Yeah, there are a lot of people I like. For instance, my friend Mike Posner, who is out on the road with me right now, is an amazing artist. Totally on the opposite side of the spectrum of country music, but he’s an artist, a writer, a producer in the pop and rap world, so I’m excited to do some things with him. I got to do a song on the Merle Haggard tribute record this year, which was a huge deal for me because I love classic country music so much. Singing a Merle Haggard song on a record and then actually having him write me a note telling me how much he appreciated it was like the highlight of my life. I like all genres of music and I could go anywhere and do any kind of music just because I love the feeling of making it.

A lot of artists in different genres are collaborating, including Florida Georgia Line with Nelly, and that definitely helps you get your name out there to people who might not be fans of, say, country music.
Definitely, and [the music business] has evolved into this digital age where people can acquire music pretty instantaneously. Being able to just collaborate with other people and put it out there -- people can gravitate towards it if they want to, if not, they don’t, but we’re able to see a quicker reaction to things.

Who’s your favorite artist of the moment? Like, who do you listen to at the gym or at the beach, etc.?
I’m a big Jimmy Buffett fan. I love him. But music to me is about the feeling and depends on where you are. When I’m at the gym, I listen to ultra rock and roll or I’ll listen to hip-hop or something that has a driving tempo. I’m not going to go to the gym and listen to Merle Haggard or Hank Williams Jr. -- that’s more for like when I’m drinking beer! Or if I’m out on my boat, I’m always listening to Jack Johnson, Jimmy Buffett, like I said, and if I’m fishing, I really enjoy listening to country music. I’ve always said that the fish bite better when I’m listening to Conway Twitty or something. It’s always a matter of where I am or what mood I’m in.

What was the inspiration behind your “Days of Gold” album?
Just good songs. Every time you put out a record, it takes up a couple of years of your life, not only making it, but then promoting it. So if you’re going to spend a couple of years of your life promoting something, it better be good!

You have “Beachin’” on that album, which is a new summer anthem. How do you go about writing hit summertime songs?
I kind of put myself in the listener's position and in their shoes. When I sit back and listen to a song, I picture myself with my friends the same way my fans out there are doing. Like when I go out on my boat with my friends, I’ll put the music on, turn it up loud and ask everybody what they think. And I can usually tell pretty quickly if they're enjoying the song, you know? But a lot of the time my friends are honest and they’re like, “God, this is so great, you got to get this out there,” or they’re like, “This song sucks.” [laughs] And that’s why you have to have good friends that will be honest because music is art and art is subjective. There are people out there that will go buy a painting and hang it in their house and then there’s someone else that might walk buy it and never think twice about looking at it because it doesn’t appeal to their eye. And the same thing with music –- some music doesn’t appeal to people’s ears. So it’s about giving everybody a wide variety of things and letting them choose what they want.

jake owen

What’s your favorite part about touring?
That my office every day is not in the same place. I get to meet new people, I get to have a lot of fun – I never know what’s going to happen. Whereas, I have a twin brother who loves living in our hometown in Vero Beach, Florida, and he sells insurance, but he goes to the same office every day, at the same time and checks out at the same time. I mean, I never wanted to be that guy. I cannot walk in and out of the same exact place and do the same thing every day. I love that one day I’m in New York City walking around downtown Manhattan, then playing a show that night. Then today, I’m outside Denver, Colorado, at a big rodeo, and my wife [Lacey] and my little girl [Olive Pearl] are out walking around looking at livestock and things like that. So, you don’t get Denver in New York City and you won’t get New York City outside here in Denver. So, every day there’s something new that we’re not only able to do for ourselves, but for our daughter. I think there’s so much education within the art of traveling and I’ve seen her blossom already into such a smart kid because of how she’s able to see new things and it’s not monotonous.

Definitely! And hold the phone, you’re a twin?
I am a twin, yes!

Who knew? Does your brother ever get mistaken for you?
He has short hair, so he gets it sometimes, but he doesn’t mind it too much, I’m sure. He’s a pretty awesome dude himself .... We’re best friends and twins and growing up we were always Jake and Jared, and now I hate it when I hear people say to him, “Oh, you’re Jake’s brother?” He’s like, “No! I’m Jared!” [laughs]

What city has surprised you the most while you’re on tour? Maybe a place where you didn’t think there would be country music fans?
I would have to say New York City is definitely one of those places because for a long time it didn’t have a country-music radio station -– thankfully it does now [Nash FM 94.7]. And that’s the beautiful thing about New York City -- there’s so many walks of life there that it’s always so flattering to go there and see the reaction, like at Hammerstein Ballroom recently. People were going nuts! It was an atmosphere, it was a feeling that people had and it was so apparent to me standing on stage watching them, that I was just addicted to it. That’s what I love the most about playing places like New York is that you can walk on stage with an expectation of how you think it will be, but when the crowd and the vibe of the room exceeds your expectation? It’s like a kind of drug or something. It gives you crazy feelings, it’s addicting. So, I wish every night was like Hammerstein Ballroom when we play.

This interview has been edited and condensed.

Lea Michele's Twitter Account Gets Hacked, Says She's Pregnant With A #BabyBoy

Shortly following the Twitter hacking of Chris Colfer, Lea Michele fell victim to the antics of some Internet villain when her account wrote, "Before this gets out to the media, I would like to announce to my fans that I am pregnant #BabyBoy."

The act of hashtagging "BabyBoy" probably should have seemed a little suspicious, but Michele's publicist has confirmed that Michele was hacked (although, in a statement sent to Time, she did not touch on whether Michele is pregnant with a #BabyBoy or otherwise).

Colfer's hacker wrote that he had been let go from "Glee," due to "personal issues," before his manager announced that his account had been compromised.

We’ve been alerted that Chris Colfer’s Twitter account has been hacked,” 20th Century Fox Television wrote in a statement to Time. “Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season.”

So, that clears that up, but what is going on with all of this "Glee" hacking? It just seems like they all sat down and made their passwords "GLEEFOREVER" or maybe just "password." In any case, we have to be wary of everything we see on any "Glee" star's Twitter from now on.

Most recently, Michele tweeted that she hopes we "all have a fun and happy 4th of July!!!" The Huffington Post has reached out to a publicist to verify this comment, but did not hear back at time of publish.

Kanye West Gets Booed During Yet Another Rant

Kanye West went on another one of his rants during his closing set at the Wireless Festival in London on Friday night, July 4.

Wearing a studded mask, the rapper began a 15-minute speech in the middle of his set about consumerism, fame and discrimination in the fashion industry. With a black-and-white video of a waterfall playing behind him and a piano loop in the background, it looked like more of a church sermon than a Friday night at a music festival.

At first Yeezus was getting cheers of support from the crowd, but those soon turned into boos once he clearly wasn't returning to his music. These signature on-stage Kanye rants and audience boos are almost a tradition now.

Here he's talking about the media and advertisers brainwashing people. The crowd doesn't seem to be too annoyed yet.

Here he's ranting about Louis Vuitton and black celebrities.

Here he's talking about following your dreams, but this section of the crowd isn't feeling it.

Now the audience is pretty fed up. He isn't even audible here because of all the booing.

Poor Kanye was just trying to get some stuff off his chest, but the audience just wasn't in the mood. Watch the rant below, before he saves himself by transitioning into "Runaway."

Miley Cyrus' Fourth Of July Got Just As Weird As You Thought It Would

In honor of the birth of America, Miley Cyrus themed her usual weirdness with the proud colors of this great country and some really creepy masks from Party City. Here is a filtered glimpse at her Fourth of July festivities:

There were arts and crafts made for a person named Katy (not Perry) ...

... patriotic party favors and "besties."

There were fully terrifying Uncle Sam and eagle masks ...

... a unicorn and approximately 1776 pool floats ...

... And even fireworks (surprisingly not in the shape of a tongue or overtly sexualized hotdog).

You'll Never Guess Which 'Breaking Bad' Stars Were On 'The X-Files'

Just how nearly every actor ever has made a cameo on "Law and Order," a bunch of well-known faces also appeared on "The X-Files" back in the day.

BuzzFeed made a super cut of 10 actors who guest starred alongside Scully and Mulder on the sci-fi drama. While Ryan Reynolds and Shia LaBeouf appear, the best clips include three "Breaking Bad" actors in their younger days. A '70s mustachioed Bryan Cranston stars in the Vince Gilligan-written episode "Drive," which eventually led to his casting as Walter White, while a spiky-haired Aaron Paul and a young Dean Norris (still adamant on catching criminals) made cameos in other episodes.

Check out the super cut above and enjoy Gilligan's cast before they broke bad.

The Sia tour continued Thursday night as the singer appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" for another of her increasingly elusive performances. Yet, before Sia sang with her back to the audience, Kimmel took the opportunity to wear a nude leotard and blonde wig, while being taught the dance from "Chandelier" by the video's performer, Maddie Ziegler.

As the 11-year-old said after watching Kimmel dance, "It's better than I thought it would be."

Joan Rivers Says Barack Obama Is Gay, Uses Trans Slur Against Michelle Obama

Joan Rivers took her "jokes" too far yet again this week, when she hurled a trans slur at the first lady, shortly after officiating a gay wedding at a book signing for "Diary of A Mad Diva."

Inquiring about the impromptu ceremony, an unidentified reporter asked controversial octogenarian when we will have a gay president, to which she replied, "We already have it with Obama, so let's just calm down."

She then goes on -- unprompted! -- to say "You know Michelle is a tranny." When the reporter attempts to clarify, she responds: "A transgender. We all know."

Click over to Vincent Paolo Villano's 2012 op-ed for The Advocate, should you need a reminder of why calling cisgender women trans (even without the use of slurs) "only furthers the marginalization of women and transgender people."

Sometimes we all go a little crazy, but hopefully not with scissors in our hands.

In a new clip from "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For," Jessica Alba returns as Nancy, but she's not nearly the same girl she was in the 2005 film. The former sensitive stripper is now having a hard time coping with the death of Bruce Willis' John Hartigan. "Maybe I’ll go crazy. Crazy’s sounding pretty good right now," she says as she begins chopping her hair off. Afterwards she's revealed looking like a completely different person, which jagged short hair and cuts across her face.

Check out the clip above. "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" hits theaters on August 22.

Congrats go out to Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson!

The longtime couple, who have been engaged since 2010 and have two children together, finally tied the knot at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California on July 5 in front of family and friends, E! News reports.

The bride wore a custom Carolina Herrera gown, according to People.

Simpson's sister Ashlee and her fiance Evan Ross were in attendance, as well as the pair's friends including Jessica Alba and Topher Grace. Their 1-year-old son Ace was a ring bearer and their 2-year-old daughter Maxwell was a flower girl.

"I already feel like we're an old married couple," Simpson told "Good Morning America" earlier this year. "Like, if he wanted to run, he could've run when I was hormonal and pregnant."

Cheers to the happy family!
