Paul Brodeur: I Never Said That Microwaves Take Nutrients Out Of Food, Despite 'American Hustle'

0
0
Jennifer Lawrence's "American Hustle" character, Rosalyn Rosenfeld, says and does a lot of outlandish things during the course of David O. Russell's new film, including but not limited to starting a fire with her tanning lamp, nearly getting her husband killed by mobsters, and putting metal in the family's new microwave oven (or "science oven," per the parlance of the film).

After that careless act, which results in another fire, Rosalyn cites an article written by journalist Paul Brodeur as reason for her destructive actions.

"I read that it takes all of the nutrition out of our food," Rosalyn says about the microwave during an argument with her husband (played by Christian Bale), who doesn't believe her claims. "I read it in an article," Rosalyn notes, "by Paul Brodeur."

Except Brodeur is saying he never wrote an article that made any such declaration. After video of that "American Hustle" scene appeared on The Huffington Post's list of 17 Best Movie Moments of 2013, the 82-year-old Brodeur contacted HuffPost to dispute the assertion made by the Lawrence character. (Brodeur also noted that he sent "American Hustle" producers a "strongly worded letter" through his lawyer, "pointing out that by attributing a scientifically unsupportable statement to me they have defamed me and damaged my reputation.") As part of his note, Brodeur also expounded at length on what he views at the "microwave radiation hazard" of cell phones.

Requests for comment to representatives for Sony Pictures, the studio behind "American Hustle," and David O. Russell, who also co-wrote the film in addition to directing, were not immediately returned. This post will be updated if they respond.

"American Hustle," which is loosely based on the ABSCAM scandal of the late 1970s, is in theaters now.

Brodeur's full statement to HuffPost on the matter is below:

In a piece entitled "17 Best Movie Moments of 2013" that appeared in the Huffington Post on January 6, 2014, Christopher Rosen, a senior entertainment editor, includes a trailer from the film "American Hustle,” which states that Paul Brodeur has written in a magazine that a microwave oven "takes all of the nutrition out of food." This is a serious error. I have never written in The New Yorker, where I was a staff writer for nearly forty years, or in any other magazine, or declared in any way that a microwave oven does any such thing. Indeed, I have publicly stated the opposite. (See People magazine, Vol. 9, No. 4, January 30, 1978.) However, I was the first journalist to write at length about the adverse health effects of microwave radiation (see The New Yorker, December 13 and 20, 1976, and books entitled The Zapping of America, W.W. Norton, 1977; Currents of Death, Simon and Schuster, 1989; and Secrets, A Writer in the Cold War, Faber and Faber, 1997.) I have also spoken publicly about the microwave radiation hazard.

In recent years, there has been a great deal of discussion of and study about the microwave radiation emitted by cell phones. It is an established fact that when one is transmitting from a cell phone held to the ear, microwave radiation can penetrate deeply into the brain. Much controversy surrounds the biological effects of such penetration.

In 2011, a committee of scientists and medical doctors from 14 nations, which was established by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, in Lyons, issued a joint statement that long-term use of cell phones may lead to two different types of tumors--glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, and tumors of the inner ear. Their decision was based upon an evaluation of six major studies showing a possible association between wireless phone use and brain tumors. The chairman of the committee was Jonathan Samet, a professor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, who has been appointed to the National Cancer Advisory Board by President Obama.

A neurosurgeon who was a member of the committee said, "What microwave radiation does in most simplistic terms is similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain."

In France, the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety has recommended limiting exposure to radiation from mobile phones, particularly for children and intensive users.

Swedish scientists have determined that people who started using mobile phones before the age of 20 are experiencing more than a five-fold risk of developing malignant tumors of the brain, and a similar risk of developing tumors of the inner ear.

It has been estimated that nine out of ten 16-year-olds in developed nations either use or own a mobile phone.
Much more evidence exists to demonstrate the health hazards of microwave radiation, but the above should encourage people to take precautions -- either by texting or by using ear phones or by sharply limiting their use of cell phones—and to mistrust the cell telephone industry’s spurious claims that microwave radiation emitted by the devices cannot cause harm.

The most authoritative source of information about the microwave radiation hazard in recent years has been Louis Slesin, founder, editor, and publisher of Microwave News. He can be reached at microwavenews.com.

"Marriages break up for one reason, selfishness," Rev Run said. "Me and her love each other so much that there's no selfishness going on."

Although the couple admitted they have their fair share of arguments, they try to fight fair.

"You gotta think of that person as you. How am I gonna do an underhanded blow because then you're really hurting you," Justine said. "We just try not to hurt each other."

No winter blues for Reese Witherspoon.

The actress, 37, rocked a tiny pink two-piece as she lounged poolside in Hawaii, where she attended actor Justin Bartha's wedding on Saturday (Jan. 4). Witherspoon's husband, Jim Toth, is Bartha's agent.

The mother-of-three, who welcomed son Tennessee in September 2012, flashed her tattoo as she basked in the sun.

Witherspoon is an avid runner and a big fan yoga, which might explain why she looks like a total beach babe.

Countess LuAnn Will Return To 'Real Housewives' In Recurring Role

Bravo TV's "The Real Housewives of New York City" is gearing up to begin its sixth season, but fans won't be seeing as much of their favorite Countess as they have in the past.

LuAnn de Lesseps, also known as "The Countess," has been with "The Real Housewives of New York City" since its first season, but she has recently decided to take a step back and return to the show as a recurring, rather than main, cast member. De Lesseps says that she has decided to pare back her involvement with the show in order to focus more of her time on her family and business. She spoke with E! news on the matter, saying, "It's a win-win for me ... I'm still on the show. I'm still very much a part of the show, but it's not a fulltime thing. It's very engulfing when you're on it. It takes up all of your mental and physical energy."

Despite the more limited role, de Lesseps is still currently featured on the show's cast website.

This season, the cast will be joined by model and housewife Kristen Taekman. When asked if de Lesseps had any hard-earned wisdom for Taekman, she laughed and said, "Keep your head down."

De Lesseps will not appear in the first three episodes of Season 6 because filming began before she had reached a deal on her contract. She seems excited for the new season, however, publicizing it on Twitter.

Get the full scoop on de Lessep's return at E! news and see the Season 6 trailer below.

What Exactly Is 'Spoils Of Babylon' Parodying?

0
0
On Jan. 9, "Spoils Of Babylon" will grace IFC. The heavily-star packed parody appears to be an elongated "SNL" sketch -- so elongated, that the initial cut was supposedly 22 hours long. But what exactly are Kristen Wiig and Co. spoofing for all that time?

As Variety's Brian Lowry pointed out, it's unlikely much of the target audience has had any familiarity with the mini series at which "Spoils" takes aim, leaving potential entertaining scenes feeling a "tad inside baseball" for the uniformed. Essentially, "Spoils" is stylized as a mini series, the most quintessential of which is "Thorn Birds." Now, to help you mull through the satirical incest with some understanding of the inside jokes only your grandma would get, here's a handy guide to the source material.

So, what is a miniseries?

"Miniseries" refers to a finite story, told across several episodes, usually over the course of a single season. The type that "Spoils" is spoofing were often epic in scope, highly dramatic, with lengthy development almost exactly mirroring the books upon which they were often based.

Wait, aren't there still miniseries today?

Yes, but the kind of thing "Spoils" is parodying, reached its hey day in the '70s and '80s. They were often rather slow-moving and based off of prolific novels. Although it is not technically a miniseries, probably the closest thing we have resembling them today would be "Downton Abbey." Although, the pacing is much faster than what one would have seen in the meticulous developments of shows like "Thorn Birds"

What are some of the most popular miniseries from that time?

Perhaps the most well-known is "Roots," for its groundbreaking presentation of slavery. The norm is better depicted through miniseries like "North and South," which tells the tale of two brothers struggling to maintain their relationship, when they are forced to face each other in the Civil War. Another example is "Rich Man, Poor Man," which told the story of a an impoverished immigrant juxtaposed with a successful entrepreneur (and also possibly inspired the parenting book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad.")

northandsouth

You mentioned "Spoils" is most closely parodying "Thorn Birds." What exactly is that about?

"Thorn Birds" is based on the novel of the same name by Colleen McCollough. It is an epic, which tells the story of Australian sheep herder Meggie (Rachel Ward) who falls for Ralph (Richard Chamberlain), a young priest. Of course, their affection is forbidden, so there are lots of tortured embraces and sideways glances. (Skip to 5:44 for one of the better ones below.)

So, what kind of things will "Spoils" be making fun of?

Miniseries tropes include prolonged character development as well as an epic time span -- "Spoils" apparently spans over the course of 50 years. Rather than skipping ahead or using plot turns as focal points, miniseries tell a single story in its entirety, including the more mundane aspects of the plot. Also, melodrama.

'Bitten' TV Show: Nudity, Blood And Everything Else You Need To Know

0
0
Elena Michaels craves a normal existence. A Toronto resident with a thriving career, sensitive boyfriend and close friends, she seems to be right on track with that goal. There's just one monstrous piece of baggage weighing her down: Elena is not only a werewolf, but the only known existing female werewolf.

Based on the popular "Women of the Otherworld" series by Canadian author Kelley Armstrong, the freshman TV series "Bitten" follows Elena (played by Laura Vandervoort of "Smallville" fame) as she struggles to distance herself from the lycanthrope curse that governed her life. Elena's torn, however, when her werewolf pack calls for her aid against a mysterious threat targeting them. Now, Elena must journey to the pack's Stonehaven mansion in New York, unleash the beast inside that she's wrestled to supress and confront ex-lover Clayton Danvers ("Durham County"'s Greyston Holt), the man who bit her.

During a Toronto set visit in June 2013, the tension has been ramped up. One of the pack members has fallen. Another is slowly dying of poison. In Stonehaven's massive kitchen, Clayton and a shaken Elena are in the middle of a heated discussion about the current crisis and the unique perspective it sheds on their relationship. Ultimately, a furious Clayton storms off.

"Everything is coming to a head," explains Holt later in his trailer. "Basically Elena finds out there's this other woman, Amber (Eve Harlow), and she's in love with a werewolf. She opened up that the werewolf came and didn't kill her because he truly loved her. This is ammunition for Elena to come back at me and be like, 'Look, he didn't bite her...' There's some stuff Elena doesn't know yet, that I am holding back from telling her."

It's a dramatic sequence that requires a few takes before director Grant Harvey is satisfied. Once cameras stop rolling, Vandervoort, Holt and executive producer J.B. Sugar plunk down to chat with HuffPost Canada TV about "Bitten," adapting an established property and letting the fur fly.

Source Material
Sugar knows a sweet opportunity when he sees it. The Women of Otherworld's strong characters, rich mythology and genre setting were ripe for a Hollywood treatment, so the books were optioned three years ago. "Bitten"'s 13 episodes don't stray much from the first novel, but there were other considerations when crafting the overall arc.

"This is a huge challenge, because you're never going to live up to the expectations of each individual reader," says Sugar. "The reading experience is very different than the visual media that film and TV are. You really have to take into consideration preserving the essence of the stories, characters and the world, knowing when to go off-book, so to speak, so you can expand on storylines that can sustain for a 13-episode arc. Thankfully Kelley has been so open and excited about the project, and respectful of the process in terms of being a different medium. As long as we're staying true to the lifeblood of her characters and her world, she's very happy."

Article Continues After Slideshow!

Full Moon Rising
Vandervoort and Holt obviously have chemistry. Pulling up crates to sit on during break, they trade quips, laugh together and yes, even finish each other's thoughts. It's a cheerful environment to witness, but their on-screen dynamic is much more complicated. Those flawed characters and their emotional scars were just a few elements that appealed to the two actors.

"Clayton is strong, impulsive and aggressive at times," says Holt. "I`m the pack beta, protector of the pack and biter of Elena. I brought her into the mix."

"Elena Michaels is everything I've been wanting to play rolled up into one," says Vandervoort. "Having had a very troubled past and some of her foster families abusing her, she`s never really had that family idea in her life. Elena falls in love with her professor (Clayton) at university and he ends up being a werewolf. He bites her and she's pretty upset by that. I don`t know the reason as to why he bit me. I only know he did and he didn`t give me a chance. Elena tries to get away from the werewolf life and she heads back to Toronto. She tries to have a normal life and falls in love with a human."

"She is strong and bullheaded," Vandervoort continues. "Oftentimes she's the dominant one in her relationships. Elena has many weaknesses and secrets and that's what's really interesting about her. She has so much going on, yet she stays strong."

Savage Nature
Capturing the essence and sensibility of fantastical creatures is never easy. Werewolf 101 usually consists of binge-watching classic monster flicks or studying wolf movements and patterns. Vandervoort and Holt skipped those typical paths and chose different approaches for getting into the proper mind space.

"I read this book, Wolves of the Pacific Northwest, that followed them around that area and their behaviour," reveals Holt. "The one thing I learned is how strong pack mentality is and how family-oriented wolves are. That was a big thing for me. And I also ran around the forest naked in Vancouver. I went up this popular hiking trail and just went off it about an hour in. I then took off all my clothes, everything, and just ran around and howled."

"Especially for the fight scenes and scenes that are fairly dramatic, I think about the animalistic side of it," notes Vandervoort. "If I walk into a scene like the one I did the other day, I'll circle the actor like a wolf will circle the prey. Or if you're dominant in the scene, you keep eye contact because the other person will look away. That's how animals treat it. When we're doing fight scenes, I love to grab the nape of the neck because that`s how a mother would dominate. And just the way we stand is very strong and confident."

Altered States
The werewolves of "Bitten" are essentially enormous wolves that run on all four legs -- and not of "The Howling" variety. That's just one of the big decisions the creative team was forced to make. In the developmental stages, they also went back and forth on how to pull off the transformations. Would they be more practical or effects-heavy?

"We made the ambitious decision to go full CGI when our characters are in wolf form," says Sugar. "That's a symptom of how special our action is, and how difficult it is to train practical wolves to do things, as well as the difficulties of creating avatars for our characters. It allows us the ability to specifically design the look of each character when they're in wolf form. Each of the characters, when we see them as wolves, have nuances and ideologies that speak to their human forms."

"Our werewolves are also very unique in that the mythology is not the common mythology you normally associate with them," continues Sugar. "Transformations waxing and waning with the power and cycles of the moon ... we don't have that element in our werewolf lore. When our characters transform into wolves, they actually look like photo-real wolves. They're not bipedal half-wolf/half-man. That's another interesting way we've dealt with the werewolf side of things."

Vandervoort adds, "We always take our clothes off first because we don't want to ruin our clothes or rip them. We put them aside for when we come back to change. It's more of an internal pain. Your bones are breaking and snapping and changing form. You get down to all fours and then really it's the full FX wolf."

Laying The Foundation
At the heart of "Bitten" is a woman being pulled between two different worlds, seeking her own identity and the theme of what defines family. At the same time, fans will be thrilled to delve into a werewolf mythology unique to the Otherworld universe.

"The whole show is about a hero pack," states Sugar. "The notion of the pack, which is the leading group of werewolves, has been around for centuries. There's a device in the novels called The Legacy, which contains all the history of the former pack alphas and the evolution of the rules of the pack. That really helps inform everything we've done in the first season and will do in future seasons as well.

"Their house is called Stonehaven and they have a war room in the basement," adds Sugar. "We took the notion of The Legacy and expanded it into this library where there's scrolls and boxes of evidence and bottles of smells and various evidence they've collected over the years. There are manuscripts and documents that speak to the history of the pack and the ascensions and fall of various packs or alphas, and the whole switching of leadership throughout time."

Mature Content
Forget "Twilight" or those supernatural teen soap operas where romance drives the plot. "Bitten" features darker characters with a grittier tone. In fact, Vandervoort believes the series is more HBO than CW.

"The fact that we're werewolves, there's the erotic side to it," she says. "The animalistic sexual side. They're drawn to one another, especially Clay and Elena. They`ve got that bond that's irresistible. She tries so hard to resist. The show is very sexy. I, as Elena, have two different lives. With my boyfriend Philip (Paul Greene), it's a certain love and attraction. It's more about their relationship and their respect for one another. He just lets her do her thing and doesn't ask questions. But she's just physically drawn to Clay. It's a little more aggressive with the clothes off. There are two different love scene styles when we shoot them."

"I kill a guy," chimes in Holt. "Or that girl getting fed on when her guts are out and a wolf is feeding on her stomach. We're definitely not holding back on the blood."

"Or the nudity," offers Vandervoort.

"Yeah, the nudity," agrees Holt with a chuckle. "My ass makes a cameo."

"It's definitely an adult show in that it's more 'True Blood' than 'Vampire Diaries,'" concludes Sugar. "It's an older take on genre, although it's never gratuitous. It's always in service of the stories we're telling. Space is pushing the envelope in terms of where they're going. We're telling the stories we want to tell and using the visuals to help do that. The show and books are erotically charged and we're staying true to that. It's going to be a sexy, fun, suspenseful thrill ride."

"Bitten" premieres on January 11 at 9 p.m. EST on Space in Canada and on Monday, January 13 at 10 p.m. EST on SyFy in the U.S.

Danielle Jonas: Medication Is Helping Me With Anxiety During My Pregnancy

Pregnant women who struggle with anxiety and depression face a tough decision: Taking medication could potentially affect the baby, but going without it might not be good for mom. Danielle Jonas, Kevin Jonas's wife, faced that dilemma and ultimately decided to stay on anti-anxiety meds throughout her pregnancy.

The "Married To Jonas" star and her husband joined HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd to discuss the parenting app Amazing Baby Days, pregnancy, and her choice...which may be considered controversial. Jonas, who announced her pregnancy in July, explained that while she felt calm in the beginning of her term, her anxiety has increased in the last month or so.

"It was a hard decision and in my head I'm like, Was it still right? Or was it still wrong? but I can just pray that she's OK," Jonas told Redd.

According to MayoClinic, risk of birth defects for babies of women on antidepressants is low, but there is no evidence suggesting they are completely safe, either.

The American Psychiatric Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend that moms talk to their doctors before deciding whether or not to stay on any medications.

"It's hard, I give credit to all moms who have to go through it," Jonas said.

7 Questions for RuPaul's Drag Race's Shangela

0
0
If you keep up with RuPaul's Drag Race's Shangela on social media, you know that she has been on the mend after a bad injury that occurred on stage last October. But just because Shangela hasn't been able to perform, doesn't mean she has been resting on her laurels. Quite the contrary, Shangela has been working on projects and new business ventures, the first of which was introduced this past Tuesday. Shangela announced via a YouTube message that she has formed Say What Entertainment, a LGBT entertainment management group that already boasts an impressive roster of five of Drag Race's stars: Alyssa Edwards, Vivienne Pinay, Laganja Estranja, Gia Gunn and Shangela. I interviewed D.J. Pierce, the man behind the drag persona of Shangela, via phone, and it was an informative and hilarious chat. Check it out!

2014-01-08-Shangela_SWEPresident_Press.jpeg

Justin Hernandez:What was the motivation to start up your own LGBT entertainment management group?

D.J. Pierce: I honestly felt like there was a need for it. RuPaul has done such a great job with RuPaul's Drag Race and unleashing 70 creative, talented drag queens in the world who have fans that want to see them in different places. There is a great demand for touring drag queens. I've been doing this for the last three years ... on tour consistently, and I just felt that there was an opportunity there for a fair and new, dedicated management group. And then also, my select group of queens could benefit from the kind of experience from someone who's walked a mile or two in their pumps! I just wanted to share my experiences, and in addition to that, bring some new opportunities to a lot of the queens who we'll be representing.

JH:I know there is a family connection between you, Alyssa and Laganja...

DJP: Yes, darling! We are the Haus of Edwards!

JH: Yes, the Haus of Edwards is represented! So I'm sure it was a no-brainer to put them on Say What Entertainment's roster, but what made you approach Vivienne Pinay and Gia Gunn?

DJP: Well, Gia stood out to me in the new cast of season six of Drag Race. She is a Midwesterner, she's from Chicago, she's talented ... her stage performance is very high energy, and I love all that! You know I think I'm the Beyoncé of any drag performances in the drag world, so I love anything high energy and she definitely is a performer that stood out to me. Then, Vivienne Pinay -- she is also honorary Haus of Edwards. Just watching Vivienne blossom as a drag entertainer, and also as a personality, over the last year has been really cool to watch. I like Vivienne, and I like to work with people that I like. She's very talented and very professional. And those two things stand out to me for the queens of Say What Entertainment.

JH: Any plans to expand the roster in the near future?

DJP: Definitely! The management group is an LGBT entertainment management group. In 2014, I'd like to expand to include not only RuPaul's Drag Race queens, but also other very talented drag queens that deserve to have their talent displayed on a national platform. I think there are lots of different LGBT entertainers, and there are opportunities that I have come across in traveling that our senior booking managers have sought out. There are needs for LGBT entertainers and models, and all that.

We're starting out smoothly -- I don't want to say slowly because we're definitely hitting the ground running, but starting very smoothly. So we're taking these select five that we have at Say What Entertainment, and ensuring that we're able to produce the opportunities to have these girls booked and working. Because working clients are happy clients. Halleloo! I want to make sure that our girls get all the opportunities possible, and then I'd like to expand.

JH: Now, can we talk about your injury that happened while you were performing on stage. There is some misconception that your broken leg was a result of doing the death drop. Can you set the record straight about that?

DJP: I was performing on stage at the Halloween event in New York City at Providence Nightclub. I was in the middle of a number, I did do a death drop, and I came down the wrong way -- my leg didn't go in the direction that it usually goes for the death drop. I don't know if my heel had gotten caught on the carpet of the stage or how that worked out, but anyhow, needless to say, it did break two bones in my lower right leg, the tibia and the fibula. They basically just snapped right there on stage. I've been doing the death drop for the last three years. I don't think it was the death drop itself that broke my leg. It was a death drop gone wrong that broke the leg.

JH: How are you doing with your physical therapy and rehab?

DJP: I'm really fortunate to be working with some fantastic physical therapists. I had great doctors at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, and I've had great physical therapists here at the Carrell Clinic in Dallas, where I've been doing my recovery. You have to stay committed to it. It's new to me because I've never broken a bone before. I've never had this kind of surgery or recovery process, but it's definitely showing me my own strength. I'm excited to get back out there and go on tour. My first show back is on February 21 at Syracuse University. I'm so ready for that, and I've pushed myself harder than the therapists do. I spend an extra half hour on the elliptical machines and treadmills. I'm just trying to get in as much as I can. Sometimes I push myself a little too hard, but I'm taking it day by day and learning a lot about myself, as well as my ability to bounce back.

I tell them all the time, they can take my leg, but they can't take my spirit. And I am the comeback queen! C'mon now! I came back on Drag Race twice. Y'all think I wasn't going to come back from a broken leg?

JH: So you already have your return date to the stage. I was wondering if you were going to keep it a secret and pull a Beyoncé and surprise us?

DJP: Oh yes, the comeback tour of the spring, baby! Get ready! I'm doing universities, nightclubs, Prides ... I'm coming! And you know Alyssa and I are releasing a new song at the end of February called "Turn the Party." We're excited about that!

JH: One last question: What are your thoughts about the upcoming season of RuPaul's Drag Race?

DJP: I'm excited! I live for watching Drag Race because it is really entertaining. Take it from somebody who has been sitting on my ass for the past two months. There is some real horrible stuff on television. So I love Drag Race, and I cannot wait for it to come back. I cannot wait for these season six queens! I love Courtney Act and Laganja Estranja. Those are two of my fave front-runners. There are a lot of the girls that I know and like, but I know them the best out of the whole group. I'm rooting for them. I've always loved working with Courtney. She's hilarious. I think she's so talented and such a great singer. And then Laganja, she just turns the party for me because she's just very Shangie. She reminds me of myself in how young she is in drag, but she's on fire when she's on stage. I love that! She'll break a neck trying to give y'all everything. I broke a leg for y'all, so I know she's going to break something! She's fantastic -- a great stage performer.

Audrina Patridge Admits 'The Hills' Was Fake

0
0
Just in case you still thought reality TV was even remotely close to real life, Audrina Patridge is here to, like, let you know it's not really.

Kristen Cavallari has admitted that she often had to fake fights and relationships ... literally calling her role in the show "acting."

Now, Patridge has corroborated those claims. Apparently, "in the beginning a lot of it was real," but then it got particularly not real, including one fight that producers forced Patridge to have with Cavallari, by locking them in a room together.

"I actually had to leave early for another event, we were there for about three hours and they were like, 'You can't leave until you and Kristin get into a fight,'" she told Ali Fedowtsky and Giuliana Rancic on E! news. "So I'm like, 'Oh my God, Kristin!' Kristin's like, 'Let's do it.' I'm like, 'OK, c'mon.' It was about Justin [Bobby] and we did it and we got to leave."

Note, this comes from the same person who said she was "true to herself" and "wouldn't do anything different," when asked about "The Hills." No word if that's actually coming from her producers. FREE AUDRINA.

Middle-aged schleppiness never smelled so good. Louis CK One fragrance is now on the market -- at least in the imagination of one creative Tumblr user.

Comedian Louis C.K. is shown as a celebrity model for the Calvin Klein fragrance CK One in a series of faux presentations on billboards, bottles and magazine ads. They look so authentic.

Maybe Calvin Klein ought to rethink its sleek branding and show its pudgier, balder side?

Zoe Saldana Cast As Rosemary In NBC's Adaptation Of 'Rosemary's Baby'

First Na'vi now Satan! "Avatar's" Zoe Saldana has been cast as Rosemary in NBC's version of "Rosemary's Baby."

Entertainment Weekly reports that Saldana has been cast in the upcoming four-hour adaptation of Ira Levin's 1967 novel. Before fans of the classic Mia Farrow film start getting angry, this is an adaptation of the book, not a remake of the movie. Like the original novel, the new NBC version will take place in Europe, not New York, among other differences.

Scott Abbott ("Introducing Dorothy Dandridge") and horror mastermind James Wong ("The X-Files," "American Horror Story") have been tapped to write the screenplay.

We're sure that Saldana will pull off Farrow's pixie cut and satanic baby bump with style!

No word yet on when the new NBC version will air.

Cameron Diaz Battled Acne, Binged On Greasy Food Back In The Day

Cameron Diaz is pretty much Hollywood's poster child for a healthy lifestyle, but apparently she didn't always eat right and work out daily.

The 41-year-old actually ate so much greasy food as a young woman that she ended up breaking out and suffered from painful acne. Diaz opens up about her struggle and cutting out the junk in Seventeen magazine's February issue, admitting, "I was this skinny girl who could eat anything I wanted without gaining an ounce -- so I did. If you really are what you eat, I would have been a bean burrito with extra cheese, extra sauce, no onions!"

Read an excerpt from her piece in Seventeen below:

You might think my life is always totally glam, but I used to have horrible acne -- deep, boiling pimple -- the kind that hurts so badly, I didn’t want to leave my house. My friends said they didn’t notice, but I’d say, “It’s the only thing anyone can see!” No amount of concealer and foundation could take away the texture of my skin, the embarrassment I felt, or the pain of those raging pimples. I was miserable.

At the same time, I was this skinny girl who could eat anything I wanted without gaining an ounce—so I did. If you really are what you eat, I would have been a bean burrito with extra cheese, extra sauce, no onions! Sometimes on a Friday-night drive-through run, I would order a double cheeseburger with french fries and onion rings. I was the poster child for being both skinny and unhealthy—and I had the zits to prove it.

I thought I’d tried everything to make my skin clear up, but I didn’t realize all that fried, greasy, processed artificial crap was setting off a hormonal surge that sent my skin into crazy town! Once I cut out the junk, I saw such a major difference that I felt like an idiot. It not only cleared up my acne, but it also gave me this huge amount of energy. I realized our bodies are these amazing machines, created to be good to us when we’re good to them. I could hear my body when it craved more veggies or water. I had energy to spare, which was something I’d never felt before. I couldn’t believe I had been drowning out my natural cues for so long! I started reaching for avocados and tomatoes because they made me feel great. I went from focusing on how my face looked to focusing on all the awesome things my body is capable of.

These Ridiculous Outfits Were Meant For Zac Efron (And Zac Efron Only)

There are so many reasons to love Zac Efron -- his impressive career and smoldering good looks, to name a few. But one thing that has particularly piqued our interest recently is his keen, if sometimes eclectic, sense of style.

When photos of Efron skateboarding his way through a grocery store surfaced Monday, we noticed a few things. First was an impressive ability to keep his balance with a shopping basket in tow. Secondly, (and arguably more importantly), his Canadian tuxedo/Toms combo, an outfit only he could get away with.

That got us thinking about other things only Zac Efron can wear. Purple pants, anyone? From beanies with board shorts to graphic tees with lady sunglasses, this "High School Musical" alum definitely has the whole frat-boy-meets-GQ model-meets-hipster thing down to a science.

Although, we have to admit -- those Toms were totally working on him.

Denim and shearling and more denim. Oy.

We're pretty sure you stole these sunnies out of our closet, Zac.
