J. Cole Responds To Kendrick Lamar's 'Control' Verse On Justin Timberlake's 'TKO' Remix

Justin Timberlake has rounded up a few of his hip-hop compatriots to assist on a remix of "TKO," the "20/20 Experience - 2 of 2" track that's currently trekking its way up the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The "Black Friday Remix" shirks much action from Timberlake himself in favor of A$AP Rocky, Pusha T and J. Cole, the latter of whom uses it as an opportunity to respond to Kendrick Lamar's contentious shout-out on Big Sean's "Control."

Here's a closer look at J. Cole's retaliation (beware foul language):

Cole to the rescue, never save a ho

Hoes like to hide their behavior though

Thought you was a down ass bitch

‘Til I found that shit a couple days ago

I was home alone, next thing I know

That long as verse from a song called “Control” was on

The room got nearer, the tomb got clearer

That’s when I seen the shit playin’ on your phone

Girl, what is that? A ringtone?

Shit, not you too

Man, that hype done got you too

Everybody and their momma gassed,

Even my momma asked what I’mma do

Decisions, decisions

In case this is war, then I load up on all ammunition

If a nigga want problems, my trigger’s on auto

I’ll make sure that nobody miss him

Now pack up your shit, you don’t believe in me

I don’t need you, I got me, bitch

Same nigga moved to NYC, bitch

Got a record deal and a college degree, bitch

Two gold plaques, I produced all the tracks

And I never ever ever leave no Jay Z, bitch

And after all that achievement

Real nigga never even went and got his teeth fixed

Now you try to play me, bitch?

I’ll knock your ass out

16 Vegan Celebrities Who've Given Up Animal Products For A Healthier Lifestyle

0

More people than you may have thought are on plant-based and animal-free diets: PETA reports that 2.5 percent of U.S. residents are vegans, while another 5 percent are vegetarians. Celebrities are no strangers to these dietary changes; big names like Bill Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres and now Al Gore are all on board with veganism.

Just how nutritious is this plant-based diet, though? Experts note it can be one of the healthiest ways to eat, as you’ll limit calories and harmful fats while still consuming vitamins and minerals. It’s also good for the environment; it uses fewer resources, and doesn’t support industrial livestock farms, which often face criticism for their treatment of animals and environmental waste.

Many celebrities have adopted the diet for personal, health, or environmental reasons, and are speaking up for this lifestyle. Take a look at some of veganism’s most prominent supporters below.

World AIDS Day, 2023

0
0
A few weeks ago you couldn't turn on the television without hearing echoes of President Kennedy's bold moon shot speech. Less than a decade later after it was delivered, an American flag was being planted in lunar sand.

Today marks the 26th Anniversary of World AIDS Day and we are still looking for our moon shot. Yes, there have been remarkable strides in the international response to HIV/AIDS. New infections are down by over 50 percent worldwide. Nearly 10 million people in poor countries are now receiving treatment that weren't just a decade ago. There's greater awareness and prevention, more effective treatment and more access to it -- especially in the West. But if we're focused as a nation, as a people, as a planet, we are at a far more powerful turning point -- the beginning of the end of AIDS.

We are on the cusp of ensuring everyone in the world living with HIV receives the treatment they need to survive. Science is showing signs this would control the pandemic once and for all. Someone fire up the rocket boosters, because this is possible and possible within the next decade. Treatment for everyone is a very reachable goal championed by leading HIV advocates, world leaders, global organizations, and dignitaries. Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, Archbishop Tutu, Elton John, and many others have spoken eloquently on the specifics of how to see this dream realized.

This is our moon shot.

To borrow and reimagine the words of President Kennedy: We choose to end AIDS. We choose to provide access to treatment to everyone in the world living with HIV by the end of this decade, not because it is easy, but because it is hard; because it will save millions of lives that for too long have been overlooked, cast aside, and forgotten; because it will help elevate a generation out of poverty, heartbreak and despair; because children regardless of race or geography deserve the opportunity to pursue their dreams; because it will prove that the collective hearts of humanity are more powerful than stigma, homophobia, and indifference; because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.

There is much work yet to do, seven out of 10 children still don't have access to treatment. We need to turn that number around. I have seen the power of the on the ground programs of Keep a Child Alive, the organization I co-founded 10 years ago with Leigh Blake. As part of the international movement to expand access to treatment to those most in need, we have touched the lives of more than 300,000 children and adults affected by HIV in Africa and India. I am encouraged by the stories of young people like Aimee in Kigali, Rwanda, and Evelyn in Kampala, Uganda, who came to us as children, were initiated on antiretroviral treatment and provided compassionate care; they are still coming back, still taking their medicines, and now entering their teen years with a bright future ahead. Such a transformation seemed impossible just a decade ago.

Ten years ago under the previous administration both Republicans and Democrats championed the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which put nearly three million people on life saving treatment, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa. During this decade one million babies globally that would have been infected have been born HIV-free, and the spread of HIV has slowed, even in the hardest hit countries. Congress recently voted to extend PEPFAR, which is remarkable, especially at this time when Republicans and Democrats can't seem to agree on anything. President Obama expanded this program and increased the number of people receiving HIV treatment to six million. (Mr. President, we understand your administration's goal is to once again double the number of people receiving treatment. We're counting on you...)

The Global Fund replenishment meeting to be held next week in Washington is an opportunity to remind ourselves that we can't stop now. Let's be bold enough to imagine that in ten years -- 2023 -- all people living with HIV in the world will have access to life-saving antiretroviral treatment. No baby boy or girl will be infected with HIV. We have conquered AIDS. But this vision depends on how big of a commitment we, as nations, religious institutions, the private sector, individuals and communities, are willing to make to see this mission through.

Now is the time to build on our success and remain vigilant. We have a roadmap to end this epidemic and live in a world where ALL PEOPLE regardless of geography have access to life-saving medicine.

We can (and have) high-fived each other for our past achievements. Everyone who has marched, donated, rallied, lobbied, prayed, or searched for an end to AIDS can certainly feel good about how far we've come. I have seen the love in action first hand. But World AIDS Day was never meant to be a victory lap. It's a mile marker.

World AIDS Day reminds us all of the role we have in ending this disease: We can encourage our representatives to expand funding for PEPFAR and the Global Fund. We can utilize the power of our social media platforms and networks to help keep HIV/AIDS on the forefront of minds by spreading awareness about the great work left to be done. We can support the many organizations doing good work to prevent HIV, support those living with HIV here in the US and around the world and to help reduce the stigma associated with the disease.

As President Kennedy said in the moon shot speech, "If this capsule history of our progress teaches us anything, it is that man, in his quest for knowledge and progress, is determined and cannot be deterred." The millions affected by HIV are counting on our generation's brave and bold determination.

'The Battle of Amfar' Airs On HBO For World AIDS Day

Today, Dec. 1 is World AIDS Day, and HBO is marking the occasion by debuting their latest documentary "The Battle of Amfar."

The film, co-directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman ("The Celluloid Closet," "The Life And Times Of Harvey Milk") depicts the creation of America’s first AIDS research foundation, amfAR (American Foundation for AIDS Research), which was the result of when screen legend Elizabeth Taylor and research scientist Dr. Mathilde Krim decided to work together to find a cure for HIV and AIDS.

"The Battle of AmFAR" consists of interviews and rarely seen archival footage such as Taylor speaking before Congress for AIDS research funding. In her testimony Taylor said "No one is safe... it is not just a minority disease. It belongs to all of us. I ask here and now for the national leadership that is necessary to fully appropriate this bill. Because I will continue to come and ask for it again, and again... And I will not be silenced, and I will not give up, and I will not be ignored."

Taylor was one of the first celebrities to bring attention to the disease and along with the passion of Dr. Krim, the two women helped form amfAR which has gone on to raise $366 million for HIV and AIDS research.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first World AIDS Day, to learn more about the national day of awareness, head on over here and watch the trailer for "The Battle of Amfar" above.

"The Battle of Amfar" airs Dec. 1 at 3:45 p.m. EST on HBO and makes its primetime debut Dec. 2 at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr were being honest when they said they're "amicably separated."

The pair was spotted on the Upper East Side of New York City on Saturday (Nov. 30) with their son Flynn. Bloom, 36, and Kerr, 30, who announced their separation in October after three years of marriage, were all smiles as they reunited with their little boy, who turns three years old in January.

Kerr even took to Instagram to share a snap of Flynn watching his dad perform during what looks to be rehearsals for "Romeo and Juliet," which he is starring in on Broadway.

"We love each other. We're a family," Bloom told Katie Couric of the Victoria's Secret model days after their split. "We're going to be in each other's lives for the rest of our lives. There's no question that for the sake of our son and everything else, we're going to support one another and love each other as parents to Flynn."

Usher's Ex-Wife Holds 5K Run To Honor Son Who Died In Boating Accident

ATLANTA (AP) — It's been more than a year since the son of Usher's ex-wife Tameka Raymond died in a boating accident on a Georgia lake.

Raymond is working to keep the memory of son Kile Glover alive, honoring him with the first Give Thanks 5K run/walk Saturday morning at Chastain Park in Atlanta. She wants to raise money for the Kile's World Foundation's art initiatives and upcoming camps. "I know when I'll be running, I will be thinking of him," Raymond said of her son, who was run over by a personal watercraft on Lake Lanier, northeast of Atlanta, last year. The 11-year-old boy died two weeks after being critically injured in the accident.

"I'm thinking about him every day, but he was my running buddy," she continued. "That's who I used to do my neighborhood jogs with all the time. He would be the only one who would be like, 'Let's go, mom'. He kept me going."

Raymond said Usher will be unable to attend the event because he's out of the country filming the movie, "Hands of Stone." The Grammy-winning pop star is playing the role of Sugar Ray Leonard in a film based on boxing great Roberto Duran.

"It's safe to assume that he's supportive in my efforts," she said. "He loves Kile. I think he's supportive."

Raymond said many celebrity trainers will be in attendance, along with cast members from TV One's "R&B Divas: Atlanta," Lil Wayne's ex-wife Antonia "Toya" Carter and Cynthia Bailey from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta."

"It's kind of a fun run," she said. "Not super competitive. People will be running and walking, including myself. I'll be mixing the two. I'm sure some will be able to work off some of the calories from Thanksgiving."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Details continue to emerge about the fiery car crash that killed "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker and one other person.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says speed was a factor in the one-car crash in the community of Valencia. Deputies found a red Porsche engulfed in flames when they arrived Saturday afternoon. Walker's publicist said Sunday the other person in the car was Roger Rodas, a friend of Walker's who owned a sport car dealership.

Walker's publicist said the actor was the passenger, though the sheriff's department did not confirm that.

The Porsche crashed into a light pole and tree and burst into flames. The downed light pole had a speed limit sign of 45 mph.

Walker was in Valencia for a fundraiser benefiting victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines.

LONDON, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Anglo-Irish boy band One Direction secured their second number one in the UK album chart with their new release "Midnight Memories", sales figures showed on Sunday.
The five-strong band's third studio album beat Take That singer Gary Barlow's latest solo offering, "Since I Saw You Last", in the race to the top spot.
The Official Charts Company, which compiles the figures, said "Midnight Memories" had sold 237,000 copies in the last week, making it the fastest selling album of 2013.
One Direction have enjoyed global success since coming third in the 2010 series of "The X Factor", the British television talent show on which Barlow is currently a judge.
Their debut album, "Up All Night", reached number two in Britain in 2011 and their follow-up, "Take Me Home", went to number one last year. Both topped the U.S. album chart.
Barlow had to settle for second place, while his Take That partner Robbie Williams slipped from first position to third with "Swings Both Ways".
In the singles chart, Scottish singer Calvin Harris and Swedish DJ Alesso were a new entry at number one with "Under Control", a collaboration with the English band Hurts.

NEW YORK (AP) — How do you solve a problem like preparing a classic Broadway musical for live TV?

If you're the stars of NBC's "The Sound of Music Live!" you practice hard and hear the clock ticking toward 8 p.m. EST on Dec. 5. But, even so, they have confidence in confidence alone.

"Yeah, I get sweaty palms thinking about it," allows Christian Borle (who plays Max). "But it will be a kick! It will be an adrenaline rush!"

"I'm not worried about the actual production," echoes Stephen Moyer (Capt. von Trapp). "Yes, it will be nerve-racking. But the most important thing was that I said, 'Yes, I'll do it.'"

Laura Benanti (Elsa) explains, "I have reframed nervousness to its second cousin, excitement. I don't know what this is gonna feel like. But I'm excited!"

"I'm really hoping that on Dec. 5 we will have done it so much that it'll feel like just another rehearsal," says Carrie Underwood (Maria). "Obviously, there'll be a heightened awareness of what's happening, but I'm hoping that it feels like 'We've got this!' one last time."

And then, says Audra McDonald (Mother Abbess) confidently, "I think we'll all wake up the next day and say, 'What happened?!'"

'Catching Fire' Box Office Totals $297 Million After Second Weekend

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" earned a prodigious $75 million, while 3-D animated musical "Frozen" opened with $67 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Both films bested the previous Thanksgiving record holder, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," which earned $57.5 million in 2001 over a three-day period. "Frozen" is now the biggest Thanksgiving wide release opener ever.

Lionsgate's sequel and Disney's frosty fete now hold the record for the highest domestic box office grosses for the three-day and five-day holiday weekend, as "Catching Fire" blazed the trail and "Frozen" slid in at No. 2.

From Wednesday to Sunday, "Catching Fire" brought in $110.2 million, bringing the domestic total to $297 million. "Frozen" scored $93 million, topping Disney's previous five-day champ, "Toy Story 2," which earned $80.1 million in 1999.

Michelle Obama Celebrates Bao Bao, The National Zoo's (Finally!) Named Giant Panda Cub

0
0
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Smithsonian's National Zoo is naming its female giant panda cub Bao Bao after receiving more than 123,000 votes online from the public to help give its new cub an identity.

Bao Bao, which means "treasure" or "precious," is only the second surviving cub born at the National Zoo since the first pandas arrived in 1972 to commemorate President Richard Nixon's historic visit to China. Pandas have remained a happy symbol of diplomacy between the two countries. Panda mother Mei Xiang (may-SHONG) has been caring for her cub in the panda den since she was born Aug. 23. Bao Bao will have her public unveiling early in 2014. Mei Xiang's only other surviving cub, a male named Tai Shan, was born in 2005 and was returned to China in 2010 for breeding. Male panda Tian Tian (tee-YEN tee-YEN) is the father of both cubs.

The zoo asked the public to vote for one of five names for the new cub. The others were Bao Bao (bow-BOW), Ling Hua (ling-HWA), Long Yun (long-YOON), Mulan (moo-LAHN) and Zhen Bao (jen-BAO). The names were submitted by Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai, U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke, panda keepers at the National Zoo, the fundraising group Friends of the National Zoo and the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.

The chosen name was submitted by Friends of the National Zoo.

Giant pandas are considered critically endangered in the wild, and breeding them in captivity has proved difficult, especially in Washington. Zoo scientists have made numerous attempts to artificially inseminate its female panda because the pair failed to breed naturally.

The new birth has given zoo scientists renewed confidence in the Washington pandas' ability to help grow the panda species.

Last year, Mei Xiang gave birth to a cub, but it died after six days because its lungs hadn't fully developed and weren't sending enough oxygen to its liver. The zoo's first panda couple, Ling Ling and Hsing Hsing, had five cubs during the 1980s, though none lived more than a few days.

Jake Owen Struggles To Find Identity On 'Days of Gold'

0
0
Jake Owen, "Days Of Gold" (RCA)

Since his first album in 2006, Jake Owens has struggled to separate himself from the deluge of good-time male rockers to emerge in country music in recent years. His fourth album, "Days Of Gold," continues his streak of inconsistency, blending effective slice-of-life songs with generic tunes about partying and drinking. As a vocalist, Owen displays more nuance and power than in the past. The problem is that some of his best performances come on songs steeped in contemporary Nashville clichés.

The high alcohol content "Tall Glass Of Something" makes rhymes out of names of popular cocktails and sugary shooters — wasting a distinctively fun arrangement by producer Joey Moi. Similarly, "1972" fills its lyrics with names of classic rock acts and hit songs from 40 years ago.

Owen shows he can find songs that occasionally step away from the bar: He instills desperation and tension into "One Little Kiss (Never Killed Nobody)" and "Drivin' All Night." Unlike the party tunes, these songs include consequences to his actions — and suggest Owen might distinguish himself by going in a different direction than most of his peers.
