'Supernatural' Adds 'BSG' Alum

"Supernatural" has cast "Battlestar Galactica" alum Tahmoh Penikett for the guest role of Ezekiel in Season 9, HuffPost TV has learned.

Executive producer Jeremy Carver describes the character as "a dignified warrior angel injured in the Fall." Expect Ezekiel to make his first appearance in the Season 9 premiere on Tuesday, October 8 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

A recent SpoilerTV report said that the role was potentially recurring, which makes sense, given Penikett's genre cache following roles in "BSG," "Dollhouse," "Mortal Kombat: Legacy" and "Continuum."

At Comic-Con, Carver told HuffPost TV that the overarching theme of Season 9 is "consequences -- the decisions [the characters] made at the end of last year are really causing a tremendous amount of fall-out, and that includes Castiel [Misha Collins] as well. Those decisions are going to propel them into some even greater and deeper and scarier decisions at the beginning of this season, that are going to have far-reaching, very personal consequences for our brothers."

He continued, "I think something we're really reaching for, is each of our major characters -- not just the boys [Jared Padalecki's Sam and Jensen Ackles' Dean], but Castiel and Crowley [Mark Sheppard] -- are either dealing with an experience or have recently come through an experience, a la Crowley almost becoming human, which has really affected them in ways they maybe didn't expect. And that's not shoveled under the carpet -- it's a part of them now. Castiel as he's becoming human, and the boys, Sam and Dean, are each going to have that thing that comes up. So we're always trying to turn over a new dimension and new sides to our characters. I think we're all really excited about taking a really strong character approach."

Carver also promised that "Supernatural" Season 9 will feature "smaller arcs" as opposed to the usual mix of standalone episodes and one ongoing mythology thread. "We're really including some of our supporting characters in big ways this year," he said. "We're doing a lot more B and C stories than you've ever seen from the show before, and we're really maximizing the new position that some of our favorite characters are finding themselves in."

Will that include Penikett's Ezekiel? You'll have to tune in for the Season 9 premiere to find out.

"Supernatural" Season 9 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

The Scoop On CeeLo's New 'Voice' Mascot

CeeLo Green is officially back on "The Voice" for the show's fifth season, but he's still mulling over what kind of creature will accompany him.

CeeLo's previous mascots have included Purrfect, the fluffy white cat, and Lady, the pink Moluccan cockatoo. So what critter is next for Team CeeLo?

He told HuffPost Live's Marc Lamont Hill that he has "been really taking suggestions." CeeLo does, however, know that the next mascot will promote animal welfare, just like Purrfect, who was a rescue cat, and Lady, who represents an endangered species of bird.

"I got a little gang of animals. I've adopted a rescue animal unit and I've made them partners," CeeLo said on HuffPost Live. "It helps facilitate and fund their philanthropy."

While CeeLo's next mascot is still a mystery, there is one animal that certainly won't be making it to the "Voice" stage.

"I tried something ... but it didn't work, so I guess I can tell you," he said. "I brought a big boa constrictor on there. We did an episode, and they may use it as an outtake or something like that ... It was a little hard to manage, and the jokes, like the B story, wasn't the same ... It didn't work. What can I say?"

Deborah Harry, the 68-year-old lead singer of the musical group Blondie, made an attention-getting appearance recently at a listening party in New York City, to celebrate a new music video an music single in which she performs with Miss Guy, the ex-Toilet Boys frontman and DJ who is gaining a following among the alternative and queer music scene.

Miss Guy first teamed up with Debbie Harry on "Charm Alarm," a single he wrote for and performed with her -- and the new single, "God Save New York," is equally lively, blending a low-budget, post-punk rock vibe with a sense of humor that is visible in each performers' skillfully made-up face. The single is from the EP of the same name.

A smiling Parker Posey also joined the two for several photo opportunities at the listening party, which took place at Sacred Gallery, a tattoo parlor and art gallery near Chinatown.

Usher's Son Nearly Drowns In Atlanta Pool

ATLANTA — The son of Grammy-winning R&B singer Usher nearly drowned in an Atlanta pool and was in the hospital Tuesday, authorities said.

Five-year-old Usher Raymond V on Monday fell to the bottom of pool behind a home downtown and became stuck in the drain, according to Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos' report.

A housekeeper tried to get to the boy, but was unable to free him from the drain, Campos said. Two men who were working at the home as audio-visual subcontractors were called to help.

The boy was eventually pulled from the pool, and given CPR by one of the contractors.

Campos said the boy was "conscious, alert and breathing" when paramedics arrived before 4 p.m. He was at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite.

Usher Raymond V is one of two sons of Usher and Tameka Foster, who divorced two years after getting married in 2007. The singer went through a long legal fight with his ex-wife and was awarded primary physical custody of his two sons last year.

The near drowning of the singer's son comes nearly a year after Foster's 11-year-old son, Kile Glover, died after being critically injured in a boating accident. The boy, who was the stepson of Usher, was run over by a personal watercraft on Lake Lanier northeast of Atlanta.

'The First Scene We Shot Is When We Get Naked In The Shower'

Viewers are seeing a whole new side of Laura Prepon in Netflix's "Orange is the New Black," in which she plays drug smuggling lesbian Alex Vaus, the manipulative criminal whose schemes land her naive ex, Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), in jail alongside her.

The role is a marked departure from Prepon's previous roles, including "That '70s Show" good girl Donna Pinciotti, which is apparently what attracted Prepon to the project. "I read the pilots every year and a lot of it is another 'Law & Order,' another 'CSI,' another doctor show — they’re all the same. This pilot came across my desk and it was unbelievable. It was so different from anything I’d read in so long. I needed to be part of this show," Prepon recently told Canada.com.

Since Alex and Piper's relationship is predominantly physical at the outset, in that Alex "manipulates Piper with sex," the role required a number of nude scenes, which Prepon admitted "was a problem for me ... It’s one of the reasons I was originally unsure about taking the role. I’d done it once before but it was for a very specific reason and for this I didn’t know if I wanted to do it."

She continued, "We talked about it and [cretor Jenji Kohan] made the point that in the prison it’s basically like a women’s locker room. You walk around naked and it’s like ‘Whatever, we all have the same equipment.’ So we talked and she assured me it would never be gratuitous and whenever we’d do nudity we’d talk about it and make sure it’s done in a way that I’ll be super comfortable. And it always has been."

The series certainly threw the two actresses in at the deep end, and Prepon told Canada.com that "the first scene we shot together is when we get naked in the shower ... it was like, ‘Hey, nice to see you again,’ because I just met her once during the reading, and then we jumped into the shower. And it was amazing, we had such good chemistry."

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Prepon praised the intimacy of Piper and Alex's relationship: "The sex scenes with me and Piper, we were very specific. They were always done in a way that was very non-gratuitous, since their relationship is very intense and special. It's beautiful because they love each other."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The estranged wife of Black Keys singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach accuses him of abuse in divorce filings dealing with the custody of their child.

Stephanie Ann Gonis Auerbach alleges that the unspecified abuse culminated in an incident in which she "superficially" cut herself on her legs and ankles. But Dan Auerbach said she has made two suicide attempts and that one was made in the presence of their child. His wife denies it.

Stephanie Auerbach said in the records that she sought treatment at a residential treatment facility.

Dan Auerbach has primary custody of their child. A judge gave his estranged wife supervised visitation rights with the child, until she can show "that she is not a potential danger to the child."

A publicist for Dan Auerbach declined to comment Tuesday.

'It Was Not An Easy Decision'

Fans were heartbroken when news broke that Cote de Pablo would be leaving "NCIS" in Season 11, and now the actress has opened up to Latina magazine about her controversial exit.

“It was not an easy decision, not one taken lightly," she told Latina. I feel like I am leaving my family. What I want to say most of all is thank you to the fans and to the people who have been so supportive of me and of the show, who have made the show the great success that it is."

Although de Pablo will only appear in two episodes of "NCIS" Season 11, executive producer Gary Glasberg promised to make her send-off count. "We’re going to deliver everything the Tiva fans would want,” he told TVLine. “There’s tremendous romance and tremendous heart and pathos, and I hope fans enjoy it. We’re going to do our best.”

CBS was apparently just as reluctant as the fans to let de Pablo go, with CEO Les Moonves recently telling critics, "We offered Cote a lot of money and then we offered her even more money. We really didn't want to lose her. We love her ... We obviously were in discussion with the rest of the cast and the producers [and Cote]. Ultimately, she decided she didn't want to do the show."

After de Pablo announced her exit, "NCIS'" producers released a statement saying that they "respect Cote’s decision, thank her for being an important part of the 'NCIS' team, and for eight terrific years playing Ziva David. Cote and CBS share a great respect for the 'NCIS' audience, and we look forward to working with her and the producers on appropriate closure in this chapter of Ziva’s story."

"NCIS" Season 11 premieres Tuesday, September 24 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Boehner, Trump Hit The Green

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and business mogul Donald Trump played golf together in New Jersey on Tuesday, Politico reported.

Boehner stopped in New Jersey between trips to Harrisburg, Pa. and Ferndale, N.Y. as part of his annual August fundraising stint.

Boehner and Trump played a round at the real estate mogul's golf course in Bedminster, N.J., according to Politico.

Recently, Trump told the National Review that he's considering a 2016 presidential bid, insisting that more attention must be paid to China, a country he says is "ripping" the United States.

"I have a large following of people who are tired of seeing this country ripped off, and taken advantage of [by] everyone who does business with us," he said. "We used to be the smart one of the block, and now we’re the dummies on the block. They want to see me, and I want to see them.”

Last year, Trump contributed $100,000 to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC linked to Boehner.

Drake FINALLY Comments On Those Amanda Bynes Tweets

Drake is finally responding to those bizarre tweets Amanda Bynes wrote about him. Apparently, he wasn't too thrilled by the shout-outs.

"I don’t even know who that is doing that or what that’s about," Drake told XXL for the magazine's 150th issue, which he covers. "If that is her [saying it], I guess it’s a little weird and disturbing. It’s obviously a behavioral pattern that is way bigger than me. Whoever is behind it, whether it’s her or somebody else, they know people are paying attention so they keep it going."

Bynes' tweets about Drake started back in March when she wrote that she wanted the rapper to "murder my vagina." In June, she labeled him "ugly" and then apologized, saying she wants to be friends and then calling him the man of her dreams. In her last tweet, posted July 19, Bynes wrote, "drake is gorgeous."

The troubled 27-year-old starlet is currently on a judge-ordered extended 5150 psychiatric hold at a California institution. She was detained after lighting a fire in the driveway of a random home on July 22. She attempted to appeal the order last week, according to TMZ, but the judge agreed with doctors who believe she needs more treatment before being released.

What Matt Damon Absolutely Won't Do

Matt Damon doesn't want to hit fans over the head to commit to a cause. He'd rather tickle their funny bone.

"People feeling preached to by privileged actors. I get that totally," he told The Guardian recently. "I don't want some Hollywood actor finger-wagging at me, telling me what I should and shouldn't do."

So Damon has come up with a strategy: Make 'em laugh.

Earlier this year, Damon pulled a wacky publicity stunt for Water.org in which he pledged not to go to the bathroom until the world's water crisis was solved. Other celebrities such as Olivia Wilde and Bono were glad to join in on the fun, further spreading the word of a serious problem.

Explaining the stunt to The Guardian, Damon said: "There’s just no reason so many children should be dying, but if you say that, people go, ‘Oh, shut the [bleep] up,’ you know what I mean? So you say, ‘I’m going on a toilet strike.'”

Steve Mariotti: Meeting Diana Ross -- An Artist Entrepreneur

$

Stop, in the name of love. Stop, in the name of entrepreneurship.

In the late '50s, Berry Gordy founded Motown Records and discovered Diana Ross, the lead singer for The Supremes. Little did I know, that 30 years later after she had sold millions of her albums, this legendary artist would reinvent herself and become a very successful entrepreneur.

2013-08-07-Diana_Ross1_Wikipedia.jpg

Diana Ross is one of the great entrepreneurs and artists of our time. She's had 28 number-one records and 70 best-selling singles. She has sold hundreds of millions of dollars of her art and has inspired the world to love her. I wanted to meet her for years -- she's from Detroit, near my hometown of Flint, Michigan -- and I finally convinced my friend, the Wall Street entrepreneur Bill Donaldson, to introduce me.

The ask was simple: We wanted her to be NFTE's honoree of the year and to recognize her contribution, both as an artist and as an entrepreneur. Our appointment was scheduled for three o'clock one October afternoon in 1998 and we were to meet at her penthouse at the Sherry-Netherland Hotel. Camy Calve, a top New York event planner, accompanied me, and we arrived early.

Excited and my heart racing, Camy helped to calm me down and mentally prepare to meet this legend. The doorman let us in, we entered her apartment, and a secretary walked me to this large, beautiful sofa. I was struck by the apartment's beauty and design; Ms. Ross's taste was impeccable.

Almost immediately, in came one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen -- Diana had entered the room. With perfect posture, hair flowing, and radiant, clear skin, our eyes met. Ever charming, she said, "So nice to meet you. I'm so sorry, I only have five minutes." I followed and, without hesitation, took her hand. "I have a lifetime," I said. She laughed, now totally at ease. I paid her a sincere compliment, saying, "You are a truly brilliant artist." She laughed with joy, excusing herself, "Well, my voice has changed a bit." I said, "I'm talking about your gift as an actress. Your scene with Richard Pryor in Lady Sings the Blues, where he is being beaten to death, is one of the greatest performances ever in cinema." Touched, her eyes watered. She looked at her assistant over her shoulder and said, "Cancel my next appointment. I want to talk to Steve."

During our three hours together, we talked at length about her early career, and how she'd been neighbors, in Detroit, with Smokey Robinson and had attended a school I knew well, Cass Technical High School, known locally as "Cass-Tech." She first met Berry Gordy at eight years old and was delighted to learn that I'd spent a whole day touring Detroit's Motown museum, now composed of the four houses where she and Berry Gordy had started Motown Records. Two of the houses had served as sleeping quarters, one for recording, and the last for practicing. Each house was tiny, meant for one family.

I barely moved, barely breathed, as her narrative progressed, and trusting me, she entered a kind of a flow state. She told me how she and Berry Gordy had planned to change the world through their music. She told me about her first group, The Primettes, and how she was their hair stylist, make up person, and costume designer. The Primettes won a contest in Canada and when they came back, Berry Gordy signed her on to his label. This was January 15, 1961 and the group's first two years were terrible and they could barely get gigs. And then, in 1963, they had the breakout record "When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes." It went to twenty-three on Billboard's Top 100 and, from 1964 to 1970, they dominated the charts. She described how she went solo, still with Berry Gordy, for the next 11 years. Her 1981 deal, for $28 million, was the largest contract at that time.

But I was more intrigued by her acting career. We talked at length about Lady Sings the Blues and how Diana had researched the part based on Billie Holiday's career. I knew the dialogue from Mahogany, a movie that won the César Award, France's equivalent of the Oscar, and that I think is just brilliant. We even play-acted a scene.

Three hours later, our time was up, but our mission was accomplished -- Diana Ross would be our honoree. On the way out, she gave me a copy of her album, The Boss, and signed the cover -- "To NFTE, be your own boss -- always Diana Ross." As I left, I paused and turned to ask her a final question, "What are the most important lessons that I can teach young entrepreneurs?" She responded, "Find out what you're good at. Get your team right. And, never give up." Those are good lessons for anyone.

Pee Wee's Heading Back To TV

Get ready to reacquaint yourselves with Chairry, Pterri and Pee-wee Herman himself, children of the '80s!

Paul Reubens, who played the titular star of "Pee-wee's Playhouse" in the latter half of the 1980s, opened up about a revival of the hit children's series in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times.

The actor, who's now 60, told the LA Times that there's a new Pee-wee TV show on tap, "potentially though not necessarily an update on 'Pee-wee’s Playhouse,'" according to the paper. Reubens wouldn't provide details about the new Pee-wee program, but said an announcement is “imminent” about the show, which will air in 2014.

“Short of something unforeseen like the studio going out of business, I think it’s very likely both these projects will happen next year,” Reubens told the LA Times of the show and of the long-awaited follow-up Pee-wee movie, which Judd Apatow signed on to produce three years ago. The film, which now also has a director, will likely shoot next year.

This wouldn't be the first time Reubens revived Pee-wee: In 2010, he brought the original 1980 stage show that was the basis for the outrageous character, "The Pee-wee Herman Show," to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York.

Coachella is full of idiots wearing flower headbands, and is incredibly dusty. Bonnaroo is all shoeless nerds who like jam bands. SXSW is worse than sitting at a table in a restaurant next to a group of white women in their early 30s who have just finished their second bottle of white wine. (Yes, that bad.) Austin City Limits? Hell no. CMJ? Kill me, and then yourself.

But as bad as these "festies" are, nothing, nothing... nothing is worse than Lollapalooza.

Conceived in the early '90s by Jane's Addiction frontman/ heroin-chic style pioneer/actual heroin user Perry Farrell, the festival was originally comprised of mostly rock/alt rock/grunge bands, and it was pretty cool. It was just lots of dudes who (probably still) hate their dads moshing & sweating together.

One late night in 1994, Jennifer Aniston pulled into a Sunset Boulevard Chevron station, self-doubting and distraught. Her timing was impeccable: Gassing up across from her was Warren Littlefield, the then-president of NBC's entertainment division, a man with the power to make actors into superstars. Aniston approached him and asked a plaintive question about her career, the kind of thing actors can't help but wonder after four failed sitcoms in a row: "Is it ever going to happen?"

Rashida Jones' First Post-'Parks' Job

Rashida Jones may be leaving "Parks and Recreation" after the first 13 episodes of Season 6, but she's already got another job lined up. Sadly, it's not in front of the camera.

Jones and her "Celeste & Jesse Forever" writing partner, Will McCormack, are developing comedy "Stuck" for Fox, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The "Stuck" pilot was written by "Parks and Rec" scribe Alexandra Rushfield, and centers around a middle-aged woman who feels stuck in her monotonous bank job. The woman helps her "stuck in childhood" daughter get a job at the bank, but the plan backfires when her daughter becomes her boss. The comedy will follow the trials and tribulations of the pair at work and home as both try and get "unstuck."

The comedy earned a put-pilot commitment at Fox which virtually guarantees it will be picked up to series, and is set up at Warner Bros. Television, who will produce alongside Jones and McCormack's Le Train Train production company.

"Parks" executive producer Mike Schur said that Jones and co-star Rob Lowe's exit from the show was entirely mutual and driven by the plot. "We had the idea creatively to sort of move in that direction and it totally dovetailed and aligned with what the two actors envisioned for themselves in their careers. So it's a big, happy, mutual hug-fest celebration," he told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour last week. "Rashida has a producing gig at Warner Bros. and she just sold a TV show yesterday -- I hope I'm not breaking that news -- and she's really focusing more on writing. And as I writer, I fully support that."

"Parks and Recreation" returns to NBC on Thursday, September 26 with the hourlong Season 6 premiere.

Meet Charlie's Lesbian Daughter On 'Two And A Half Men'

Amber Tamblyn has been cast as Charlie Harper's long-lost lesbian daughter on Season 11 of "Two and a Half Men," HuffPost TV has confirmed.

Tamblyn will appear in at least five episodes as Jenny, Charlie's (Charlie Sheen) illegitimate daughter. Jenny has reportedly moved to L.A. to pursue acting and connect with what’s left of her family, and will apparently like everything that her late father liked -- including women. If the character connects with viewers, there's an option for Tamblyn to become a regular.

She'll make her first appearance in the September 26 premiere, in which she'll end up crashing with her uncle, Alan (Jon Cryer) and his housemate, Walden (Ashton Kutcher). Tamblyn is 30, while Sheen, her erstwhile TV dad, is 47.

Executive producer Chuck Lorre admitted that he liked the idea of a strong female character on the veteran CBS comedy. "I think it would be great to have that voice on the show from a different perspective," he told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour, per THR. "The show has had enough testosterone to last a lifetime ... Part of the fun in this has been creating a character that is equal to the task of stepping on the stage with Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. That's a big job."

Angus T. Jones is no longer a full-time cast member in Season 11, although he will likely recur in some capacity, despite causing controversy after decrying the series as "filth."

"Two and a Half Men" returns for Season 11 on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
