How 'Smash' Is Preparing Jennifer Hudson For Broadway

Jennifer Hudson looks at her time on "Smash" as a training program for Broadway.

The Oscar winner has a multi-episode arc on the NBC musical as Veronica Moore, a Tony-winning actress, and told EW the show is prepping her for the Great White Way.

"It's not easy being on the stage, on Broadway," Hudson told EW. "I take my hat off to those people."

Hudson said it was an immediate "yes" when she got the call for "Smash." "Doing the show has helped me get my feet wet for Broadway," Hudson said. "I like to take one step at a time and I feel like this was a huge leap, but a great start into walking into that world, which is something I definitely want to do one day."

In a behind-the-scenes video from NBC, Hudson said she had a ball recording the original songs.

"You're constantly creating new things on so many different levels," she said. "One minute you're in the studio, the next second you're doing choreography, the next second you're acting. It's a huge challenge, but I love it."

Click over to EW for more from Hudson and "Smash" stars Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee.

"Smash" Season 2 premieres Tuesday, February 5 at 9 p.m. EST. The series moves to its regular timeslot, 10 p.m. EST, on Tuesday, February 12 on NBC.

Rihanna Belts One Out For Barbados

Rihanna really wants you to go to Barbados.

The "Diamonds" singer is back as a tourism ambassador for her home country with sexy new ads for the Caribbean island. (She has also been in 2010 Barbados ads, check one out in the slideshow below.)

The multi-faceted campaign, which will be run entirely through social media, will continue through the end of February, reports Breaking Travel News. It kicked off with Rihanna posting images to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #Barbados.

In a video for the campaign, Rihanna can be seen engaging in what are assumed to be typically Barbadian activities like bike riding through the woods or playing dominoes on the beach, as well as looking generally gorgeous while frolicking on the beach. Her song "Diamonds" plays in the background.

According to the Daily Mail, the effort is to showcase a side of the country other than its west coast beach resorts.

A microsite is also to come as part of the promotion that will differentiate "the wealth of experiences available on the island and the crucial factors between what makes some people travellers and some people tourists," reports Breaking Travel News. More Rihanna clips are also on the way.

What do you think? Does this video make you want to jet to Barbados?

Lindsay's New Therapist Is A Famous Designer?

The best way for us to start off the New Year? Getting a peek at Lindsay Lohan's home on "Million Dollar Decorators," of course!

We've been anxiously awaiting this Bravo episode for weeks now and it finally arrived... and it was jam-packed with drama, decor and therapy sessions -- yes, therapy sessions.

The show kicked off with designer Kathryn Ireland getting ready to meet Lohan in her reportedly $8,000 a month Venice home. In true Ireland fashion, she first poked fun at Lohan's legal troubles. "You need to get your first prison sentence out of the way. It's like your first marriage." But she quickly transformed from designer to therapist once she entered the nearly bare abode.

The two spoke a lot about "new beginnings" and making the home a safe place for Lohan. "This house is a fresh start for Lindsay. It'll make her feel secure and really ground her," said Ireland.

Lohan's bedroom was filled with plastic storage bins of designer handbags and a giant mirror over the bed, though she talked about her desire to have rooms similar to that of Paris' Plaza Athenee hotel, craving "French-cottage-shabby-chic" designs.

But that was really the most we got out of Lohan design-wise. While Ireland spoke about adding fun and color to the home, Lohan was submissive with her continual "yes!" to all of the designer's recommendations, even adding she was so happy Ireland even liked her home and ideas.

Until of course, the two went to Kreiss showroom and the paparazzi were anxiously waiting to snap photos of the actress. While Ireland made suggestions for couch styles and lamps, Lohan's mood quickly changed and she snuck out the back door, it seems, before anything was really accomplished. As we know however, Bravo spent close to $200,000 redecorating the four bedroom, five bath home.

While we don't get to see the big reveal until "Million Dollar Decorators" season finale, we do know Lohan won't be there to show it off. Back in December we learned the starlet refused to be taped for the final episode, supposedly due to hospitalization after an accident.

A representative from Bravo told the Huffington Post that the reveal was able to be captured for the last episode of the season in January 8 – so of course we’ll be live-tweeting!

Follow the antics and join the conversation LIVE with HuffPost Home on 1/8 at 10 PM EST @HuffPostHome hashtag #MillionDollarDecorator. Watch the video above to see a a clip from this week’s episode and click through the slideshow to see LiLo's California home.

Annette Bourdeau: 13 Totally Random Predictions For 2013

$
0
0

Ah, celebrities. So unpredictable. After all, who'd have thought that just over a year after her over-the-top wedding to Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian would be carrying Kanye West's child? Or that image-conscious Brad Pitt would agree to do a ridiculous ad for Chanel No. 5? Or that cops would intercept a plot to murder Justin Bieber?!

As full of surprises as the celebrity world is, I still try to anticipate the year's biggest gossip before it happens each January. Last year, I wasn't entirely off. Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux did get engaged, and while Russell Brand didn't hook up with Kate Moss, he did find temporary solace with another member of the British pop culture royalty -- Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell.

So, if you're looking for something completely useless to waste a few minutes on, read my list of 13 totally random predictions for 2013! Who knows, some of these crazy antics just might come to fruition.

1. George Clooney does an embarrassing TV commercial for women's hairspray, is widely mocked.

2. Madonna sees Argo, likes it and decides to direct a film from the Iranian housekeeper's point of view.

3. The casting for the movie adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey is announced. While nobody is really surprised when Amanda Seyfried lands the role of Anastasia, more than a few eyebrows are raised by the decision to cast Michael Cera as the domineering Christian Grey. He goes on to be named People's Sexiest Man Alive.

4. Ryan Gosling breaks up another fight, enjoys the rush and decides to leave acting to pursue a career in law enforcement.

5. Rihanna and Chris Brown get married -- and divorced. Following the split, they work together on Battleship 2, which (temporarily) rekindles their volatile love affair.

6. Justin Bieber puts the moves on 23-year-old aspiring cougar Taylor Swift. Now that he's 18, though, Biebs is too old for Swifty's taste. She sets her sights on Modern Family cutie Rico Rodriguez instead.

7. Following in the footsteps of Jackie & Kelso's real-life romance eight years after That 70's Show went off the air, Jennie Garth and Luke Perry do one better by making Dylan & Kelly happen in the real world 13 years after the original 90210 aired its final episode.

8. After the publicity tour for the DVD release of the final Twilight flick is done, K-Stew and R-Patz quietly go their separate ways. Shortly afterwards, K-Stew becomes Michael Bay's newest muse, and he casts her as April O'Neil in his apprehensively anticipated Ninja Turtles reboot.

9. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey pull a Franco, and show up to their Golden Globes hosting gig totally baked. (The dead giveaway that they've been tokin'? When Fey wrestles a bag of Cheetos away from unsuspecting audience member Britney Spears.)

10. Katie Holmes starts dating unlikely ladies' man Jonah Hill. The two are introduced by mutual pals Michelle Williams (Katie's Dawson's Creek co-star) and Jason Segel, Hill's frequent collaborator in the Apatow crew.

11. Tom Cruise teams up with Reese Witherspoon to produce the movie adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-seller 'Gone Girl' -- on the condition that he gets to star as the young, tall and ruggedly handsome hero, Nick Dunne. He dyes his hair blond for the role and figures that should do it.

12. A drunk and belligerent Steve Carrell has a public meltdown. When he's pulled over for a DUI, he sexually harasses the female officer and hurls his phone at her male counterpart's head.

13. When Daniel Day-Lewis wins the Best Actor trophy for Lincoln at the Oscars, Ben Affleck pulls a Kanye and mistakenly ascends the stage to accept the prize for himself. He manages to declare "How do you like them apples!?" before being escorted off the stage. Day-Lewis graciously handles the incident and proceeds to give a very boring, humble, run-of-the-mill acceptance speech that doesn't include any Good Will Hunting quotes. At all.

Jerry Springer: Kim Kardashian's Baby Will Become 'Center Of Her Life'

The news that Kim Kardashian is having a baby is what everyone is buzzing about, including Jerry Springer, who says we are about to see a different side of Kardashian.

“I know about Kim’s baby and I had nothing to do with it,” Springer told The Huffington Post. “I wish her the very best of luck. Maybe spiritually I’m the father,” he added, referring to those who have said that without his show we wouldn't have the kind of reality TV that went on to make the Kardashians so famous.

“What I’ve found is that whatever is going on in life when you have a child, it just becomes the most important thing," he said. "I’m not saying she has to change. Kim has a very successful life and is a happy person and I’m not passing any judgment on her.

"She’s been incredible for what she has achieved in her chosen way of doing things. But in a sense it's the same thing with her mom, how the kids became the center of her life. That happens from generation to generation. It crosses all kinds of personalities and lifestyles.”

Springer said his New Year's resolution is once again to eat more cheeseburgers and take more naps, insisting his life has already been so blessed that he would be greedy to ask for anything more.

“I am the luckiest man in the world. I have a wonderful grandson. I’m at the park with him right now. What else could I possibly want?” he asked. “I’ve just lived this privileged life and it's not 'cause of any talent I have. It just happened and I’m very grateful. I work hard but so does the guy picking up garbage. Who is more lucky than me?”

May we suggest one person? Kim Kardashian.

PHOTO: Charlie Sheen Makes Out WIth Porn Star In Mexico

There's good reason why Charlie Sheen is rumored to be dating a porn star. The 47-year-old "Anger Management" star was snapped planting a steamy kiss on adult film actress Georgia Jones on New Year's Eve in Cabo, Mexico. (Incidentally, Sheen was also photographed getting pal-y with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in the same city, where Sheen hosted a party at the Hotel El Ganzo to ring in 2013.)

Jones is a 24-year-old brunette who has posed for Penthouse and has appeared in over a hundred videos since 2007, according to her IMDB profile.

This isn't the first time Hollywood's perpetual bad boy has dated a porn star, of course. In 2011, he bizarrely introduced the world to his "goddesses," Bree Olson (a pornographic model) and Natalie Kenly, who also worked as nannies for his children. Scroll below for more pictures of Jones, and launch the slideshow below to flip through Sheen's many other exes.

"Bates Motel" has a premiere date!

The series, inspired by Alfred Hitchcok's "Psycho" and set in modern times, will make its debut on Monday, March 18 at 10 p.m. EST on A&E. On "Bates Motel," viewers will see Norman Bates' (Freddie Highmore) twisted backstory and what his relationship with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), was really like.

"Bates Motel" picks up after the death of the Bates patriarch, which leads Norma to buy a motel in hopes of a fresh start for her and Norman in the idyllic town of White Pine Bay. The townspeople, however, are not as wonderful as the town seems and aren't so quick to let them in on their secrets. Norman and Norma take a stand and are determined to protect their secrets ... and to do whatever it takes to survive.

"Bates Motel" is executive produced by Carlton Cuse ("Lost") and Kerry Ehrin ("Friday Night Lights") and also stars Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke and Nicola Peltz, Nestor Carbonell and Mike Vogel.

"Carlton and Kerry crafted a fascinating backstory for Norman and Norma Bates that has been brought to life by this incredible cast," Bob DeBitetto, president and GM of A&E Network and Bio Channel, said in a statement. "It's thought provoking television at its finest and we're thrilled to bring it to the A&E family."

"Bates Motel" premieres on Monday, March 18 at 10 p.m. EST on A&E.

Ryan Murphy's adaptation of "The Normal Heart" is heading to HBO. The film, which stars Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer, will air in 2014.

"We are so proud to be involved with this monumental project,” HBO's Michael Lombardo said in a statement. “Ryan has assembled an extraordinary cast to bring Larry Kramer’s landmark theatrical achievement to the screen for the first time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this important film to HBO.”

Murphy will direct and executive produce the movie based on Larry Kramer's '80s play. Jason Blum, Dede Gardner and Dante Di Loreto will also serve as executive producers. The movie is set in New York City in the '80s during the onset of the HIV-AIDS crisis.

Roberts will play Dr. Emma Brookner, the paraplegic physician who treats several of the earliest victims of the disease. Ruffalo will take on the role of Ned Weeks, "who witnesses first-hand the mysterious disease that has begun to claim the lives of many in his gay community and starts to seek answers." "White Collar" star Matt Bomer will play Felix Turner, a reporter who becomes Ned’s lover.

The project has been in development for some time. In January 2012, Roberts and Alec Baldwin were attached to the project.

Donnie Wahlberg: 'Boston's Finest' Isn't 'COPS'

PASADENA, Calif. -- Donnie Wahlberg says he doesn't think he'd be allowed back in his hometown if he made a Boston version of "COPS."

The actor is producing a nonfiction show, "Boston's Finest," that premieres next month on TNT. It follows members of the Boston police department on patrol.

He says other television producers are scouting Boston to do versions of "Jersey Shore" with drunk people who "shout clam chow-dah."

Wahlberg says that might be something fun to watch, but it wasn't the kind of show he wants to make. The "Blue Bloods" actor says there are people he grew up with who are doing heroic work that he wants to spotlight.

Whatever Happened To Mandy Moore?

$

You know those stars who blow up for all of about five minutes -- or five years, if they're lucky -- and then disappear into the ether? The ones whom you're reminded of only upon seeing a late-night commercial for "Totally R&B" or gasping with excitement as they pop up on the latest episode of "30 Rock"?

The Huffington Post has been scouring the Web for juice on some of your old favorites, from pop-music princess Mandy Moore to "Cruel Intentions" heartthrob Ryan Phillippe. Find out what these and plenty of other stars are actually up to. Believe it or not, most of them are in fact still working. (We didn't believe it either.)

MUSIC:

Ginuwine
where are they now
You might not be aware, but R&B slow-jam aficionado Ginuwine is still making music. He released a greatest hits album in 2006, and his most recent effort, 2011’s “Elgin,” debuted at a crisp No. 30 on the Billboard 200. Still, Ginuwine hasn’t been able to top his 2001 smash single “Differences,” which spent four weeks atop the U.S. R&B chart. At least Tom Haverford still loves him.

Macy Gray
where are they now
Surely you know Macy Gray from her ubiquitous anthem “I Try,” a monstrous hit that went on to be featured as part of entirely too many dramatic moments on TV shows like “Spin City” and “Gilmore Girls.” But what else do you know about Gray? How about the fact that she has released five albums and 15 singles since her signature song made its impact in 1999? Or that she had a brief stint as a celebrity contestant on the ninth season of “Dancing with the Stars”? How about her bizarre appearance as an abortionist in Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls”? Nope? Not ringing a bell? We didn’t think so.

Mandy Moore
where are they now
For better or worse, Mandy Moore’s fame hasn’t endured to quite the same degree as say, Christina Aguilera or Jessica Simpson, two of her peers who arrived around the same time her 1999 debut album “So Real” did. She’s released five albums since but is most remembered for her excessively dramatic turn in the 2002 flick “A Walk to Remember” and the accompanying singles “Cry” and “Only Hope.” Since then, Moore has attempted to keep her film career alive, but the closest she’s come are a few poorly received romantic comedies (“Because I Said So,” “License to Wed”) and the lead role in the animated flick “Tangled.” Mandy, despite a résumé that hasn’t quite been growing, we’re missing you like candy.

Sinéad O’Connor
where are they now
Oh, surely you remember Sinéad O’Connor! She had one of the biggest hits of the 1990s with “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Then, in 1992, she ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II while performing on “Saturday Night Live” and hasn’t quite recovered since, despite releasing an additional six albums. Now she turns up regularly to give bizarre interviews, express her often controversial opinions and get divorced for incomprehensible reasons after 16 days of marriage. She told Entertainment Weekly in 2005 that she is “three-quarters homosexual” but leans “a bit more toward the hairy blokes.” In 2007, she told Oprah Winfrey that she has been diagnosed bipolar. And, of course, she’s still attacking the Catholic Church.

Sisqó
where are they now
Sisqó’s thong-related desires must have been satiated, as he hasn’t released an album since 2001. He’s had a few forgettable movie roles, the most recent of which was 2006’s “Surf School.” (Remember it? No? We don't either.) It looked like the Grammy-nominated stud will forever be known for his two chart-topping 2000 singles “Thong Song" and “Incomplete.” At least we have that.

Vitamin C
where are they now
The orange-haired songstress known for 1999’s sunny pop smash “Smile” and the commencement-friendly ballad “Graduation (Friends Forever)” hasn’t made an album since 2001, when her second effort “More” peaked at only No. 122 on the Billboard charts. Vitamin C, whose real name is Colleen Fitzpatrick, told People magazine in 2007 that she was working on two comeback albums, both of which still have yet to be released. No worries, though — Nickelodeon is putting the singer to work as the network’s vice president of music.

MOVIES AND TV:

Neve Campbell
where are they now
The “Scream” queen was a ‘90s superstar, nabbing leading roles in “Party of Five,” “The Craft” and, of course, Wes Craven’s popular slasher series. Campbell partook in her fourth entry in the “Scream” series in 2011 and has a smalle recurring role on "Grey's Anatomy," but otherwise she’s virtually exempt from anything that isn’t stage work, obscure indie films or Lifetime original movies. She’ll take the lead role in the Jan. 6 premiere of Lifetime’s “An Amish Murder” and, naturally, could reprise her role as the troubled Sidney Prescott once again for a potential “Scream 5.”

Brendan Fraser
where are they now
Brendan Fraser's résumé has grown increasingly thinner since his peak in the late 1990s and early 2000s as the star of hits like “George of the Jungle,” “The Mummy” and the Oscar-winning 2004 film “Crash.” He’s reprised his “Mummy” role twice, with 2008’s threequel raking in more than $100 million at the box office. Beyond that, Fraser has been strikingly absent from the spotlight, instead opting to appear in a handful of small, unremarkable film roles and a Broadway play that closed after only nine shows. Perhaps his meaty roll as William Tell could revive his star status — if it ever comes to fruition, that is.

Sean Hayes
where are they now
Following his hugely successful, Emmy-winning turn as the flamboyant, lovable Jack McFarland on “Will & Grace,” Sean Hayes has mostly shied away from starring roles, opting instead to pop up in small bit parts on sitcoms like “30 Rock” and “Parks and Recreation.” Oh, and there was the unnecessary 2012 remake of “The Three Stooges,” which was way below Hayes’ pedigree. Now the comedian is co-executive producing TV Land’s “Hot in Clevelend” and NBC’s “Grimm,” but don’t worry — Hayes is producing and starring in the lead role of an upcoming NBC comedy about a father whose 14-year-old daughter moves in with him.

Amy Jo Johnson
where are they now
You may know her better as Kimberly Ann Hart, the witty Pink Power Ranger. Unlike the other “Power Rangers” cast members, Amy Jo Johnson has had a comparatively sizable film career, although standards for the former Rangers are admittedly low. She nabbed the title role in the Disney Channel’s 1996 remake of “Susie Q” and then went on to star as Julie Emrick on the popular college series “Felicity.” She hasn’t quite cashed in on her television fame since, with the exception of a few made-for-TV movies, a stint on Lifetime’s “The Division” and now a role on the current Canadian cop drama "Flashpoint." At least she’s taking one for the dilapidated “Power Rangers” team.

Larisa Oleynik
where are they now
“The Secret World of Alex Mack.” “The Baby-Sitters Club,” “10 Things I Hate About You.” If you were a tween in the late 1990s, then Larisa Oleynik was probably part of your lifeblood. Despite an abundance of potential and a degree from Sarah Lawrence to top it off, Oleynik’s career has never thrived like it should. She’s taken to guest-starring TV roles, the most significant of which has been four episodes as Ken Cosgrove’s gal on “Mad Men.” More please!

Ryan Phillippe
where are they now
Perhaps it was his 2007 divorce from Reese Witherspoon after seven years of marriage that excoriated heartthrob Ryan Phillippe’s career, because we haven’t seen much of him since. After a succession of successful films including “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Cruel Intentions” and “Gosford Park,” Phillippe appears to have decided that mainstream fare is no longer his thing, aside from the occasional respite, a la “MacGruber” and “The Lincoln Lawyer.” Now he co-runs a production company and is focusing on his directorial debut “Shreveport,” an indie thriller set in the eponymous Louisiana town. “Shreveport” is due in 2013.

Liberace Biopic Deemed 'Too Gay' For The Big Screen, Director Claims

"Brokeback Mountain" and "Milk" may have captivated audiences and swept award shows in recent years, but it seems Hollywood still has some reservations when it comes to portraying gay content on the big screen.

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has revealed that many studios weren't exactly keen on "Behind the Candelabra," his much-anticipated Liberace biopic which is now set to air on HBO.

“Nobody would make it,” Soderbergh told The New York Post of his new movie, which stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. “We went to everybody in town. They all said it was too gay.”

Soderbergh, whose credits include "Ocean's Eleven" and "Traffic," as well as last summer's smash "Magic Mike," said he was "stunned" by the response.

"This is after ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ by the way, which is not as funny as this movie," he recalled. "The studios didn’t know how to sell it. They were scared.”

Damon, who plays the long-term lover of Liberace (Douglas), has previously said of the film, "These two men were deeply in love and in a real relationship -- a marriage -- long before there was gay marriage...The script is beautiful and relatable. Their conversations when they’re dressing or undressing or having a spat or getting ready for bed? That’s every marriage."

Soderbergh's revelation comes just days after HBO announced plans to air "The Normal Heart," Ryan Murphy's film adaptation of Larry Kramer's award-winning play about the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York.

"Heart," which will debut in 2014, will reportedly star Julia Roberts, Mark Ruffalo and "White Collar" hunk Matt Bomer.
