Paul McCartney & Wife Narrowly Avoid Helicopter Disaster

Paul McCartney and his wife, Nancy Shavell, narrowly avoided disaster when the pilot flying their helicopter became disoriented during a flight earlier this year, reports The Daily Mail.

On May 3, the former Beatle, 70, and his wife, 52, were traveling back home to East Sussex, England, when their chartered Sikorsky S-76C suddenly began plummeting towards trees as the pilot tried to land on the singer's helipad.

According to the U.K. paper, the helicopter was just two feet away from a fatal crash when the pilot was suddenly able to pull the nine-seater aircraft away from the tree tops and later touched down safely at a nearby airport.

The terrible ordeal is now being investigated by the U.K.'s Department of Transport, and has been categorized as a "serious incident" by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch. According to the government report, the flying conditions included "low cloudbase, poor visibility and rain."

When asked about the terrifying incidence, a rep for McCartney told The Daily Mail, "Paul has been spoken to. It has been put to him, everything. It’s a no comment.’
