Miley Cyrus: Bangerz Tour Is 'Educational For Kids'

Miley Cyrus has big plans for her upcoming Bangerz tour. While she has made a name for herself as of late because of her boundary-pushing performances, in a recent interview with Fuse, the 21-year-old pop star revealed that she believes the show should be attended by kids.

"Even though parents probably won't think this, I think my show is educational for kids," Cyrus said in the interview. "They're going to be exposed to art most people don’t know about. People are taught to look at things so black and white, especially in small towns. I'm excited to take this tour to places where [art] like this wouldn’t be accepted, where kids wouldn’t learn about this different kind of art."

Cyrus' "art" is reportedly not going to include any of her famed twerking this time around, according to an unnamed source close to the singer. "Miley is well aware of the controversy that her twerking caused last year and while she is not at all regretful of it, she doesn’t want it to define her concerts," the source said, according to The Mirror.

Victoria Beckham's New York Fashion Week Show Is A Family Affair

NEW YORK (AP) — Those who come to fashion shows purely for the celebrity factor would not have been disappointed Sunday morning at Victoria Beckham's runway show, where they got to see soccer great David Beckham, accompanied by their four impeccably groomed children, snap selfies of himself and his toddler daughter while waiting for Mom's big moment.

On the runway, Victoria Beckham presented a fall collection based on the idea, in her words, that "Everything is not what it seems." "It's all 360 degrees — nothing is flat," she said in a post-show interview backstage. "You look at a structured coat from the front, and then from the back you see this beautiful pleat. Or you're looking at a dress, and then the whole back is missing."

The collection was almost entirely black and white, with an emphasis on ruffles and pleats, and a fondness for a single gold chain draped across a garment.

Beckham said she was trying to incorporate changes in her clothes, but not so much as to alienate her regular customer. "It's about satisfying my sense of creativity, but also giving our customer what she wants," she said.

After the show, Beckham spoke about building a stronger presence in New York. But she made clear that the couple won't be moving to Miami — even though David Beckham just confirmed a few days ago that he plans to become owner of a Major League Soccer expansion franchise there.

"Just because David has a club in Miami doesn't mean we are moving to Miami," she said. "We're based in London and that's where the kids go to school. "

Seated next to the Beckham family were Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her daughter Bee Shaffer.

Nicki Minaj Poses In Netted Dress That Leaves Almost Nothing To The Imagination

Nicki Minaj is known for her love of over-the-top outfits and the "Super Bass" singer continued to turn up the heat in her latest set of Instagram photos.

The 31-year-old singer embraced her natural hair for a photo shoot with Grizzleemusic, in which she donned a netted dress by Mark Fast that is sure to raise a few eyebrows. Wearing just pasties over her nipples, the largely see-through dress leaves very little to the imagination.

Of course, it's no surprise to see Minaj wearing pasties and forgoing a bra, as she told Ellen DeGeneres this past September, "I don't like bras. Bras are like the devil."

Chatting Up Stephen Collins: Palm Springs' Man About Modernism

$

You probably know Stephen Collins as the irrepressibly dashing and undeniably urbane host of Bravo's Property Envy, the panel talk show he presided over alongside property expert Jeff Lewis, interior designer Mary McDonald, and Chicago-based real estate guru Brandie Malay. However, I first met the Renaissance man in his pre-television days back in London when he was the proprietor of a jaw-dropping emporium that he had opened as a sort of showcase for all the magnificent wares he had accumulated over the course of his nearly two-decade-long grand tour of some of the most fabulous corners around the globe. The showroom was a sublimely eclectic wonderland filled with richly storied objets d'art that reflected a life defined and refined by a heady cocktail of art, beauty, color and, of course, high style. I vividly recall how Collins, with almost professorial glee, took me on a tour of the space imbuing each and every nook and cranny with novel-worthy tales about how his passion for, and pursuit of, beauty had given birth to the showroom.

Flash forward nearly seven years later and Collins has transformed his world dramatically. In addition to appending the title TV host to a CV that already included the job titles hotelier, writer, curator and designer, he has exchanged the bustle of London for the simplicity of desert life in Palm Springs. Moreover, though the London showroom is a distant memory, it is soon to be replaced by a new showroom in his adopted home to which Collins had shipped five containers chock full of the fabulously wondrous pieces that populated his former UK-based love letter to interior design. Needless to say then, it came as little surprise to me when I recently reconnected with Collins in Palm Springs that, despite the change in environment, the unbridled flair that has always seemingly defined the multi-hyphenate's world remains perfectly intact.

Now fully ensconced in desert life, Collins has brought his love of Modernism to the latest stop on the whistle stop tour that is his life's journey and he has fittingly been named the official "Man About Modernism" for Modernism Week which takes place from Feb. 13 through Feb. 23 in Palm Springs.

"Modernism is at an all-time high, celebrating an incredible revival across the world," Collins offered, enthusiastically embracing his role as the spokesperson-in-chief for the desert's ode to the movement. "Where else in America, possibly in the world [other than Palm Springs], is it possible to see such a concentration of seminal architecture and design? I think it's largely down to a realization of just how well designed and thought-out the building and furniture of the Mid-Century really was. As the world becomes increasingly 'tight', as bottom-line thinking pollutes almost all decisions in both private and public design, Modernism reminds us of a time when all things mattered and how they affected our daily lives. The train and bus terminals, office buildings, schools, hotels and airports of the Mid-Century, more often than not, embodied schemes that were well executed and well thought-out."

"Man About Modernism" Preview:

"Well thought-out" is perhaps the most dead on description for Collins' new digs which will play host to a sold-out event on February 16 that is expected to be one of the biggest highlights of the weeklong roster of more than 170 events scheduled for Modernism Week 2014. Taking primary inspiration in interiors from David Hicks and Nancy Lancaster, who he said, "embody the ethos I admire most," Collins has turned his Palm Springs home into a showplace that for the first time brings together his life's collections along with the treasure trove of new finds he has unearthed locally since his arrival in America a little over 18 months ago.

"I knew what I had in mind for the remodel of my home here in Palm Springs," he said of his artfully decorated abode. "The house I live in is not of any major architectural merit. I knew that I wanted a glamorous late 1960s/early 1970s feel as the backcloth to my extensively eclectic collection and personal style. I happen to like texture and layering in my decoration. This house needed it badly as there was little to play with in terms of detailing and architecture."

But play with it he has. Dominating the living room, there is the brightly hued Guillerme and Chambron sofa he "fell for at first sight."

"I like the architectural elements in this piece," he says of the sofa which was originally made in Lille in northeastern France. "I also like its sense of strong Mid-Century design whilst almost clashing with a traditional vernacular style; yet the 'clash' is harmonious. It amuses me. It is ever so slightly kitsch."

Similarly, curtains by the late Maria Kipp, whose clients included King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Claudette Colbert, Walt Disney and Loretta Young, which he acquired from an estate sale in Old Las Palmas after dogged pursuit are also an important part of Collins' home which is, in short, every bit as remarkable as that London showroom I remember so faithfully.

For those not lucky enough to get tickets to see Collins' home in person and also for those not planning to attend Modernism Week in Palm Springs this year, there will still be an opportunity to take part in all the fun. The designer cum man-about-town is excited to be hosting a special web-series, also entitled "Man About Modernism," that promises to give viewers an exclusive inside peek at the best of Modernism Week as well as an unprecedented level of access to some of the most remarkable homes, parties, shops and best kept secrets in Palm Springs. The series is being produced in collaboration with World of Wonder, the international entertainment company with whom he began a consequential relationship in London four years ago that played a significant role in his eventual decision to relocate to the U.S. and ultimately culminated in this series and what he describes as an "amazing" collaboration.

"Man About Modernism" began its tour of the best of Palm Springs on February 5 on Modernism Week's YouTube channel, which is part of World of Wonder's WOW Presents network of channels. Episodes will air on a bi-weekly basis every Wednesday and Saturday through mid-March. Follow Modernism Week and/or World of Wonder to see the latest webisode.

Fred Armisen To Lead 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' 8G Band

There's been a lot of speculation on how "Late Night With Seth Meyers" was going to fill the enormous shoes of The Roots, who are moving with Jimmy Fallon to "The Tonight Show." Earlier reports said Meyers and his producers weren't even sure if they wanted a band or DJ.

Well, we can finally stop guessing: "LNSM" will indeed have a band, and it's leader will be none other than Seth Meyers' fellow "SNL" alum and star of "Portlandia", Fred Armisen. Meyers made the announcement via Twitter Monday afternoon:

A spokesperson for NBC tells Huffington Post that the band's official name is the "8G Band With Fred Armisen," and the additional members are (pictured left to right above) Seth Jabour (guitar), Kimberly Thompson (drums), Eli Janney (keyboards), and Syd Butler (bass). Janney is a member of Girls Against Boys, and Jabour and Butler are both from Les Savy Fav. Thompson is a world-renowned drummer who has played with the likes of Beyonce Knowles, Kanye West, George Michael and more.

In a subsequent tweet, Meyers explained that, "Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting Portlandia."

Having Armisen on stage every night opens up even more exciting "SNL"-esque possibilities for the upcoming show, which according to The Hollywood Reporter will involve more sketches and characters than its predecessor.

Fingers crossed for regular appearances by Ian Rubbish.

The @LateNightSeth twitter account followed up Meyers' announcement with one of their own, highlighting last year's drum-off between Armisen and Questlove from "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon."

Naturally, Twitter was abuzz Monday afternoon with the news, but we think Cecily Strong said it best:

We concur.

"Late Night With Seth Meyers" debuts Monday, February 24 on NBC.

A few actors from "Friday Night Lights" have already visited the world of "Parenthood," but an actual crossover is finally happening.

While "Parenthood" is on hiatus during the Winter Olympics, NBC announced a "Parenthood" web series to keep fans happy until the Braverman clan returns.

TV Guide reports that the four-part web series, "Friday Night at the Luncheonette," will feature Mae Whitman's character, Amber, while she works at the Luncheonette recording studio. While working at the studio some familiar faces from Dillon will stop by, specifically Landry Clarke (Jesse Plemons) and Billy Riggins (Derek Phillips).

Landry? In a recording studio? Sounds like a Crucifictorious reunion to us!

If you "Friday Night Lights" fans are excited, imagine what Whitman must be going through. Her eternal love for all things "FNL" has been thoroughly documented. See some examples below, and watch the digital series when it premieres Thursday, Feb. 13.

Drug Abuse and Our Biased Compassion

$

2014-02-06-drugaddiction.jpg

Recently the world has been privy to the intimate details of the drug use of two white male celebrities. On one hand there is Justin Bieber; during a recent arrest for DUI, Bieber admitted to taking Xanax and marijuana. A few days before, during a police raid in connection to a vandalism case, police reportedly found the drug "molly" in the room of his houseguest and arrested the guest on a felony drug possession. Justin Bieber was not arrested at this time. It has been alleged that police overlooked drug paraphernalia and cookie jars filled with marijuana during the raid. Lt. David Thompson with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department denies this. While on a private flight this past week with his dad, the underage Bieber reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana after the plane was inspected for drugs upon landing. No illegal drugs were found during the plane's search.

This week, actor Phillip Seymor Hoffman was found dead at 46 from an apparent drug overdose. A friend reportedly found him dead in his bathroom with a syringe still in his arm. Investigators found close to 50 bags of envelopes of heroin along with drug paraphernalia in his apartment. A few days later, authorities reportedly arrested four persons alleged to be connected with supplying the drugs to Hoffman.

Addiction is a sickness and I know that many resort to drugs as a form of self-healing, and some as a form of self-hate. After years of witnessing my own stepfather's addiction to crack cocaine, I know, from personal experience, how addiction can weaken the will power of the strongest person, as well as the ways in which drugs can destroy families. Putting the moral implications of drug addiction and the drug business aside, I am of the belief that drug use should not be criminalized. After all, the individuals afflicted with substance addiction need medical help, not jail. The consent between a supplier and an addict influences my belief against the criminalization of drugs. When we speak of drug addicts, we as a society ought to take a compassionate stance in conjunction with the use of tough love if we are to help them escape the clutches of addiction. More importantly however, I think compassion is a necessary response, no matter who the drug addict is. This is where the media narrative constructed around the drug problems of Bieber and Hoffman concern me.

In both narratives in the news about Bieber and Hoffman, their drug use is not demonized. Despite the reality that Hoffman's reported 50 envelopes of heroin could have likely equated to a felony drug charge, unlike Bieber's black houseguest, Hoffman is not perceived or depicted as "criminal." Even though Hoffman was found dead with a syringe in his arm, he was not demonized for it. News outlets mentioned the syringe fact in a few sentences but spent most of their word count lauding him as a talented actor and nice neighbor. Justin Bieber's reported drug use has been frequently depicted either as "what someone young and powerful does" or as a "man who needs to go to rehab." But in neither case are they demonized.

The unfortunate reality is that many poor and minority people in this country are not afforded this same leeway. When they turn to drugs (for the same reasons that rich white men do), they are not shown the same compassion by the media and the public as Bieber and Hoffman are. Instead they are labeled as degenerates, useless, a drain on society, irresponsible, and their problems are seen as their fault. They are referred to as "addicts" and not given the privilege of personal recognition by name, or their talent or skill.

It has also been thoroughly proven that poor people and minority drug use is criminalized more harshly. Out of the 200,000 persons sentenced to federal prisons in 2012, half of these were drug offenders. It is no mystery that those convicted as drug offenders are disproportionally Black although there is no significant difference in the rates in which Whites and Blacks use drugs. Convicted drug offenders are also mostly poor, despite the fact that drug abuse is rampant in wealthy communities as well. Most drug policies in this country were created as racialized policies. For example, marijuana prohibition was influenced by the stereotype that it made Mexicans crazy. Cocaine got a bad rap in the early 1900s because allegations spread that cocaine made Black men rape White women.

Ironically, most initiatives created today to decriminalize drugs have been influenced by the drug use and drug arrest of White middle-class Americans. States that have legalized marijuana recently, for example, have not been states with the biggest drug epidemics in urban cities. The images of White middle-class individuals standing in line the first day that marijuana became legal in Colorado further proves my point that decriminalization is wearing a White middle-class face while the war on drugs targets the poor, Black, and Latino communities. This is the privilege that white and middle class individuals have in relationship to drugs.

The privilege that wealthy, famous, white men have in this regard is much greater. They get jobs and the public's forgiveness despite their drug arrest or abuse record (i.e. Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen, Tim Allen, and three Beatles members). Poor people and minorities with drug arrest records get collateral consequences of incarceration; legal liabilities that prevent them from getting employment, housing, licenses, and other needed services and benefits they need to survive.

The death of Hoffman and the immediate need to find his suppliers spoke to the value that was placed on his life. With over 3,000 heroin deaths per year, investigators are not using their resources to find the suppliers of poor people and people of color who fall victim to drug overdoses. The double standard tells us it is only the lives of rich and famous drug addicts that are valuable. If that is the message we are getting, then it is a horrible message indeed.

I am not arguing that we should treat rich white men and their drug problems like we inhumanely treat the poor and people of color. I think it should be reverse. What we need is an unbiased compassion for all individuals. The same compassion, humane attitude, and value of life we as a society lend to rich white men on drugs, is the same we should extend to all addicts. Philosopher Schopenhauer argued that compassion is the real basis of morality. This fellow feeling is what defines our actions and lives as moral. But if compassion only extends to certain individuals and not to others, then what does that say about our own morality?

People living in poverty, and people of color, struggling with drug addiction, want and need to know that their life matters too. And it should, even if they have never given us a hit song or a brilliant movie.

11 Reasons You Need To Watch (Or Rewatch) 'Twin Peaks'

$

0
I'm always looking for something new (or old) to watch during winter. My body is not equipped to go out in the unbearable New York City weather from December through March (sometimes longer), so I like to pile on 15 sweaters, eat a lot and watch TV every weeknight evening and throughout the weekend.

During this particularly horrible New York winter, I started rewatching David Lynch's 1990 hit TV show "Twin Peaks." I've only seen it once in its entirety (during college), but seeing as I rewatch Lynch's films more frequently than that, it seemed like the right time to watch it again.

I had almost forgotten how amazing it is. Sure, the ending is shoddily wrapped up (but did you expect David Lynch to be able to wrap something up neatly or to your satisfaction?!). Sure, some of the acting is atrocious (but that's definitely part of what makes it so hilarious and watchable).

Having doubts? Here are 11 reasons why you should be watching "Twin Peaks" right now.

Because it's David Lynch. And David Lynch is AWESOME.

Who else manages to capture our dreams the way they actually happen in our minds? Dreams are WEIRD! And David Lynch gets that. Who else would create such bizarre art? Every time I rewatch a David Lynch film, I find myself wanting to watch another. What better way to get all the Lynch you want than binge-watching the only TV show he made?

Because David Lynch isn’t making any new movies.

David Lynch's last film, "Inland Empire," came out in 2006. So how else are you going to get your fix?

Because of Special Agent Dale Cooper.

Oh, Special Agent Cooper. So weird. So straight-laced. And he also loves sweets, and drinks more coffee than anyone I've ever met! They just don't make 'em like this any more, girls.

Because of Audrey Horne.

SIGH.

SO GREAT.

Isn't she the best? I know the her "relationship" -- they never actually have sex or anything -- with Dale Cooper is a little creepy (she's only 18), but if it's wrong, then I don't want to be right! I <3 you forever, Audrey! Okay, okay. I'm done.

Because of all the doughnuts, coffee and pie.

What better time to host a "Twin Peaks"-themed party and gorge on these high-calorie treats?!

Because there are no other shows on television like it.

This show is WEIRD. Can you think of another show where a lady talks to a log and thinks it talks back? I didn't think so.

Because of David Duchovny's guest-starring appearance.

David Duchovny in drag? Great.

Because it's creepy.

David Lynch knows what lives in your nightmares. He knows what scares people. And what better time to be scared than when it's freezing and snowing outside and you're curled up under a snuggly blanket?!

Because you'll have strong feelings about the characters you like and dislike.

My love for Agent Dale Cooper and Audrey Horne is only rivaled by my hatred for James Hurley and Donna Hayward.

Because of all the ridiculous romances.

Have fun trying to keep track!

Because of its campiness and corniness. And its own awareness of its campiness and corniness.

Boy, does this show have some ridiculous, campy, corny dialogue. David Lynch is well aware of the soap opera aspects (why else would Lynch show brief glimpses of TVs airing the fictional soap opera "Invitation to Love"?).

Honey Mahogany Muses on Drag Race Season 6, Honey Love EP

As RuPaul's Drag Race prepares for its return Mon., Feb. 24, anticipation among fans is reaching fever pitch. Even past contestants, like San Francisco's Honey Mahogany, are anxious to see what their new sisters bring to the table on Season 6 of the popular LOGO reality competition.

2014-02-10-HoneyMahogany2.jpg

"They're really pulling out all the stops this year," said Mahogany, who last season became the first Bay Area performer with an opportunity to become "America's Next Drag Superstar."

"Drag Race is reaching bigger audiences than ever before, worldwide," the Pacifica, CA, resident noted. "And it feels like [LOGO] has cast girls to really push the competition to the next level."

Indeed, many of the 14 Season 6 contestants are already established performers -- some with international followings. A decade ago, Courtney Act landed a Top 30 hit Down Under after becoming an Australian Idol finalist the previous year. Adore Delano, under birth name Danny Noriega, competed on Season 7 of American Idol. Both are Drag Race front-runners, Mahogany believes.

"I've had the opportunity to meet both, and they're extremely talented," said Mahogany, who in addition to Drag Race was featured on TV's X Factor. "I'm very excited to see what they bring to the competition."

"I'm especially looking forward to seeing how Courtney does," Mahogany said. "She's amazing -- and, I have to say, you'll never meet a nicer queen!"

Likewise, Mahogany looks forward to watching New York's Bianca Del Rio -- whose razor-sharp wit and biting sense of humor were previously showcased on a LOGO comedy special.

"She's hilarious!" she shared.

2014-02-10-HoneyMahogany.jpg

And don't count out Los Angeles-based Laganja Estranga, Mahagony warned.

"She comes from the notorious Edwards drag family," said the star. "That includes Alyssa Edwards [Season 5 star] and Shangela [Seasons 2 and 3], so that might give her an advantage."

Mahogany admitted rumors are already swirling about how well each of the contestants fares, including early talk of who will comprise the Season 6 finalists. Still, she cautions fans to not give gossip much weight this early in the game.

"Last season, the rumor was Alaska [Thunderfuck] was the first to go home," she reminded. Partnered at the time with Drag Race Season 4 winner Sharon Needles, Thunderfuck went on to become a fan favorite and place in the Top 3.

Regardless of their overall performance, Mahogany said this year's girls have received opportunities reserved exclusively for previous seasons' finalists. To hype the Drag Race television return, production company World of Wonder released RuPaul Presents The Covergurls, an album of RuPaul covers by each Season 6 contestants.

"As the show gets more popular, they're investing more than ever in making the girls bigger stars," Mahogany said. "What they are doing is pretty incredible."

2014-02-10-ItsHoney.jpg

Meanwhile, Mahogany continues to parlay Drag Race fame to pursue her own dreams. Shifting musical gears from her 2013 debut single "It's Honey," her new EP, Honey Love, hit online retailers Feb. 9. The orchestral five-track collection includes her cover of Nina Simone classic "Feeling Good."

"This EP is much more my musical flavor," said the vocalist. "We thought 'It's Honey' would be a great introduction, more in line with what fans might expect, but this is completely different than what you'll hear from any other Drag Race competitor."

With the "Feeling Good" video already racking up YouTube views, Mahogany is hard at work filming the follow-up "Shoulda Known Better." In many ways, she said, this release is the culmination of work started long before she was cast on the show which launched her to international fame.

"This CD was going to happen, with or without Drag Race," she said. "Being on the show just gave me a much larger platform to do it."
