Russell Crowe And Wife Separate

0
0

Sad news for Russell Crowe.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the actor, 48, and his wife of nine years, Australian singer Danielle Spencer, 43, have decided to separate after nine years of marriage. The pair, who married in April 2003 in a purpose-built chapel at Crowe's farm in South Wales, have two children together, sons Charles, 8, and Tennyson, 6.

Reportedly, the split is in part due to Crowe's busy film schedule, which has kept him away from his family in Sydney for most of the year. The Australian actor has six films coming out in the next 12 months, including "Man with the Iron Fists," "Les Miserables," "Broken City," "Man of Steel," "Noah" and "Winter’s Tale."

The separation is said to be amicable and the couple's number one concern is raising their sons. Crowe will continue to shoot the biblical epic, "Noah," in the U.S. while Spencer will stay with the boys in Sydney.

Crowe and Spencer first met 22 years ago on the set of "The Crossing," before he made it big in Hollywood. Following his relationship with Meg Ryan, he returned to Australia and realized that Spencer was the one for him. Crowe proposed in December 2002, saying, "The thought [of marrying her] crossed my mind the first time I met her."

The Huffington Post has reached out to Crowe's rep.

PHOTOS: Katy Perry Turns Heads In Plunging Dress

If there's one thing we can count on in terms of Katy Perry's style, it's that homegirl isn't scared to show some skin (or even go completely nude). The pop star is pretty well-versed in the art of showing off her figure in sheer fabrics and flaunting her cleavage in plunging dresses, so her latest look combines the best of both of these skills. And, strangely enough, we totally loved it.

The 27-year-old attended Comedy Central’s "Night Of Too Many Stars" wearing a sheer floral dress with long sleeves, a studded belt and what looks like remnants of her "Obamanicure" from earlier this week. Katy went for retro curls and a matte makeup look that was more screen siren than bland (which isn't always the case). All in all, the dark yet etherial '70s-style gown paired with a classic beauty look was a total win for us.

We're all for stars showing what they've got, but it's always nice to see it done well. What do you think of the "Wide Awake" singer's risqué neckline? Is the ensemble classy or trashy?

The Reviews Are In For 'Flight'

0
0

"Flight" landed at the New York Film Festival on Sunday morning, and critics at a press and industry screening for the film are reporting what many already guessed: Denzel Washington gives an Oscar-worthy performance as a substance-addled pilot.

"Denzel Washington is fantastic," wrote Film School Rejects' Jack Giroux on Twitter.

"Denzel Washington is excellent," echoed critic Tom Shone.

"Denzel Washington may very well be Oscar nominated for his showy performance as an heroic pilot haunted by demons," wrote New York Post critic Lou Lumenick.

Washington stars as Whip Whitaker, a pilot who crash lands a plummeting airplane and saves almost everyone on board. It's only after toxicology results come in that Whitaker's demons are revealed: He had alcohol and cocaine in his system at the time of the crash. The film -- director Robert Zemeckis' first live-action production since "Cast Away" in 2000 -- focuses on the fallout of what happens next.

"Washington has found one of the best parts of his career in Whip Whitaker," wrote THR critic Todd McCarthy in his review of the film. Per McCarthy, the section of "Flight" when Whitaker lands the plane is particularly harrowing.

The gripping 20-minute interlude that follows has in every way been brilliantly orchestrated by Zemeckis and will mesmerize and terrify audiences in a manner that will make the film widely talked about, a must-see for many and perhaps a must-avoid for a few.

With positive early buzz from the New York Film Festival crowd, Washington remains in the ever-expanding Best Actor field, alongside Daniel Day-Lewis, Joaquin Phoenix, Sir Anthony Hopkins, John Hawkes, Hugh Jackman, Bradley Cooper, Bill Murray and Ben Affleck.

"Flight" is out in theaters on Nov. 2. Check out reactions from the New York Film Festival premiere below.

Ben Affleck Celebrates "Argo" Success With Family

Ben Affleck may be busy promoting his new directorial effort "Argo" during the film's opening weekend, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have time to spend with his family.

The actor and his wife Jennifer Garner, both 40, took their daughters Violet, 6, and Seraphina, 3, out to dinner at Toscana in Brentwood, Calif., last night (Oct. 13). The brood was all smiles as they exited the restaurant together, laughing as they made their way to the car.

Seraphina clung to her dad as they wore matching knit sweaters, while Violet held hands with her makeup-free mom, who looked casual chic in a grey cardigan, jeans and boots.

We're assuming Affleck talked to his girls about their new taste in music after Seraphina sang the lyrics of Carly Rae Jepsen's hit song "Call Me Maybe" to him over the phone. (Adorable, might we add).

"Argo" came in second at the box office this weekend, raking in $20.1 million behind "Taken 2" which brought in $22.5 million.

Strike Halts Production On NBC Show

LOS ANGELES — Union picketing has brought a temporary halt to second-season production of the NBC reality show "Fashion Star."

About 70 members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees picketed the show Saturday at Hollywood Center Studios, prompting producers to cancel a taping and dismiss a studio audience.

IATSE official Vanessa Holtgrew told the Hollywood Reporter the union was striking against the show until a contract is reached.

The union allows members to work on the non-union "Fashion Star," but they get no pension and health benefits without a union contract.

IATSE is fighting to keep a foothold as union-heavy productions like feature films in Los Angeles increasingly give way to productions that tend to be non-union like reality shows.

NBC and the show's three production companies had no immediate comment.

How Did 'Argo' Do At The Box Office?

0
0

Ben Affleck's "Argo" had an impressive opening weekend at the box office, but it wasn't enough to oust last week's box office winner "Taken 2."

"Argo," the Affleck awards vehicle and highly acclaimed political thriller following the true story of six Americans hiding out in the Canadian Embassy during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis, overperformed at the box office grossing $20.1 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Audiences gave "Argo" an A+, leading to plenty of word of mouth moviegoers and increased box office numbers on Saturday.

"Taken 2" just barely held on to its No. 1 spot, bringing in $22.5 million at the box office in its second weekend. The Liam Neeson sequel was expected to best "Argo" and has now earned $86.8 million domestically.

"Sinister," a horror movie starring Ethan Hawke, whose character finds a box of gruesome home movies, putting his family in danger, also overperformed, despite average reviews. The film brought in $18.3 million, landing in third place at the box office, E! reports.

"Hotel Transylvania" also managed stay on top in its third weekend, bringing in $17.3 million and crossing the $100 million mark, according to The Wrap. The animated Halloween-themed film -- with the voices of Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez -- beat out "Here Comes The Boom," Sony's new comedy starring Kevin James and Salma Hayek. It grossed $12 million, coming in No. 5 at the box office, according to THR.

"Seven Psychopaths," starring Christopher Walken, Colin Farrell and Sam Rockwell, underperformed a bit in its first weekend, bringing in $4.3 million to place at No. 9 at the box office.

Sarandon Assaulted As A Young Actress

0
0

Susan Sarandon has been acting for more than four decades. She's won an Oscar, been nominated for five Emmys and is an outspoken social and political activist. But Sarandon recently revealed that she was once a victim.

In the November 2012 issue of Elle magazine (via Radar), Sarandon opened up about being assaulted in her early acting years.

"It was not successful -- for either of us," Sarandon told Elle. "I just went into a room, and a guy practically threw me on the desk. It was my early days in New York, and it was really disgusting. It wasn't like I gave it a second though, it was so badly done."

The actress wouldn't reveal what she was auditioning for in that instance.

In 2010, Sarandon launched a worldwide petition to lobby state governments for "Safe Harbor" laws that protect victims of sex trafficking. "I choose very carefully the groups I talk about," Sarandon told the Wall Street Journal at the time. "We need to put a face to this issue in order to take the problem from abstract to specific."

Sarandon stars in the upcoming "Cloud Atlas" (out Oct. 26) and recently told "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," "It's a wonderful movie about how everyone is connected. It's a major, major epic movie with epic ideas for grown ups."

Taylor Momsen Poses Naked In New Pretty Reckless Video

Taylor Momsen appears in a new spoken word music video for her band, The Pretty Reckless, in which she stands completely naked while reading a verse from her song "Under the Water" for Amp Rock TV's initiative, "The Words."

The 19-year-old rocker poetically reads off lyrics from the track, while black and white images of her body flash across the screen until it is revealed that she is, in fact, nude.

What a far cry from the days when Momsen played innocent teen Jenny Humphrey on The CW's "Gossip Girl."

Showing off her trademark raccoon eyes, a naked Momsen reads:

Lay my head under the water, lay my head under the sea. Excuse me sir am I your daughter? Won't you take me back and see? It's not a time for being younger and all my friends are enemies. And if I cried unto my mother, she wasn't there for me. Broken lines across my mirror show my face all red and bruised. And though I screamed and I screamed no one came running, I wasn't saved from you. Don't let the water drag you down, don't let me drown in the waves. I could be found, I could be one that was saved. Lay my head under the water. Alone I pray for calmer seas. And when I wake from this dream with chains all around me ... I've never been free.

Well, we all know Momsen is not afraid to shock.

Dan Persons: Stan Lee: Cinefantastique's New York Comic Con 2012

The father of the Amazing Spider-Man is still pretty amazing himself -- at NYCC, Stan Lee not surprisingly packed the house during his Saturday appearance, and managed to have journalists lining up afterward to speak with him.

I was one of those lucky enough to get a few minutes with Stan, and was able to get some insight into his newest project, the web video channel "Stan Lee's World of Heroes," as well as a benchmark on how he regards his side-career as a big-screen actor. (I was also able to restrain myself from asking Stan to shout, "Excelsior!" but I don't guarantee it won't happen the next time.)

Scarlett Johansson Is Back On The Market

One of Hollywood's sexiest starlets is back on the market!

Scarlett Johansson has split with her New York ad executive boyfriend, Nate Naylor, according to Us Weekly. The 27-year-old actress and 38-year-old Naylor reportedly split last week after dating for nearly a year.

The couple, who met last fall, were first photographed together snuggling on the streets of NYC in January 2012. The "Hitchcock" star met the businessman through mutual friends.

"They were hot and heavy right off the bat," a pal told Us Weekly, adding that Naylor "is a really interesting guy."

Johansson, who divorced Ryan Reynolds in late 2010 and then rebounded with Sean Penn in early 2011, opened up about dating someone out of the spotlight in the May issue of Vogue.

"It must be very strange for him," Johansson said of Naylor at the time. "It's totally bizarre. It's an adjustment -- I mean, it's got to be an adjustment for him way more than it was for me at nineteen. But he's remarkably good about it."

Speculation of a split first sparked when Johansson was pictured holding hands with her ex, Jared Leto, at the Democratic National Convention, last month. Still, her rep denied she had called it quits with Naylor, saying she and Leto were just friends, "nothing more, nothing less."

So, who should Johansson date next?

Shakira, And The Baby's Name Is...

It’s a Biel!

Shakira and her beau Gerard Piqué are rumored to have chosen the name, of Catalán origin, for their first-born, according to El Nuevo Día.

Earlier this month, the 35 year-old Colombian singer revealed the gender of her baby on German RTL Television, an announcement followed by some speculation that the boy might be named Ulises. The Puerto-Rican daily adds that the name Biel, a diminutive form of Gabriel, was chosen by the Spanish footballer.

When the couple first announced their pregnancy through the singer’s blog in mid-September, Shakira informed her fans she would postpone several promotional activities in the following days, including cancelling her appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, to give “priority to this unique moment in our lives.”

The Barranquillera shared that moment with her fans on Saturday night when she took the stage, for the first time in weeks, at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup closing ceremony in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“In a few minutes it will be our baby’s first time on a stage and it’s going to be at a soccer event! Magical. Shak,” the singer tweeted before the event in Azerbaijan’s capital.

But one night wasn’t enough. The singer also performed at Baku’s Crystal Hall on Sunday night, wearing an all black ensemble: leather pants, a loose glittered top, and knee-high boots.

shakira performs baby bumps

Shakira’s hips don’t lie, and this past weekend was no exception. Sporting her new “one pack,” as she described her baby bump last week, the Colombian singer still managed to wow fans with her slightly restricted dancing. Some, like ‘Jhorgeto’ even commenting on her tweeted pic: ¡Impresionante cómo bailas con esa barriga! (Impressive how you dance with that belly!)

The two performances at Baku came after Amnesty International and Sing for Democracy sent a letter to the Colombian superstar and Rihanna, urging both of them to “bear in mind the human rights abuses” before performing in the European country.

“Stadiums may cheer for internationally renowned recording artists like Rihanna and Shakira, but citizens within the European country do not enjoy such freedom of expression and are often persecuted when attempting to speak out,” stated an Amnesty International press release.

"Girls" Season 2 has a premiere date.

The network previously announced that "Girls" would be returning in January, but creator and star Lena Dunham tweeted the official date on Monday.

As for what's to come in January, it doesn't sound like the show's second season will be any less raunchy than the first.

"I can't tell you exactly what's going on," Dunham said before the Emmys in September. "It would be a spoiler alert. It involves sex, sharp objects ..."

Tune in to Season 2 of "Girls" on Sunday, January 13 on HBO.

John W. Whitehead: John Lennon: The Last Great Anti-War Activist

"All we are saying is give peace a chance." -- John Lennon

Despite the moving tributes that were paid to John Lennon's lyrical vision of a world without war, racial or religious divisions or hunger at the conclusion of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, there's really very little real talk of peace anymore.

You don't hear much talk of peace from presidential candidates Barack Obama or Mitt Romney, both of whom are indebted to the $600 billion military industrial complex for their campaign dollars. It's the same military industrial complex that President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned against in his 1961 farewell address to the nation.

You don't hear much about peace from the various talking heads whose mindless chatter keeps us distracted from the ongoing wars that are bleeding us dry (the Afghanistan war just marked its 11th anniversary on Oct. 7, 2012, making it the longest war in U.S. history).

It may be that John Lennon, born 72 years ago on October 9, 1940, was the last great iconic anti-war activist of our age. Thrust into the spotlight as a member of the Beatles -- and what an incredible spotlight it was, with the world at their feet -- it didn't take long for Lennon to recognize that he could use his celebrity status to not only communicate his own ideas about the world but change the way people thought about issues of the day. As Time magazine contributor Martin Lewis noted in his remembrance of Lennon on the 20th anniversary of his death:

John Lennon was not God. But he earned the love and admiration of his generation by creating a huge body of work that inspired and led. The appreciation for him deepened because he then instinctively decided to use his celebrity as a bully pulpit for causes greater than his own enrichment or self-aggrandizement.

Lennon's interests were as varied as the musical styles he sampled throughout his 20-year music career. They ranged from distrust of authority (seen in "Working Class Hero"), politics ("Gimme Some Truth") and literature ("I Am the Walrus") to spirituality ("Across the Universe") and primal scream therapy ("Mother"), and he immortalized all of them in song. Yet paramount among the causes to which Lennon was committed was his almost single-minded devotion to the anti-war movement, which moved to the forefront in the wake of his 1969 marriage to avant-garde artist Yoko Ono.

Starting with their famous "Bed-Ins for Peace," Lennon and Ono turned the tables on the paparazzi that dogged their every move in order to stage their own unique anti-war "happening." It was an inspired tactic on the duo's part, and one that has never been successfully repeated by any other celebrity of note since then. Using their honeymoon at the Amsterdam Hilton in March 1969 as a launch pad for their anti-war efforts, the Lennons invited the worldwide media to join them in their hotel suite, where they sat in bed for two weeks straight, from nine in the morning to nine at night, engaging in discussions about world peace. A second Bed-In followed three months later in Montreal, where Lennon wrote and recorded what was to become the unofficial refrain of the peace movement -- "Give Peace a Chance."

As Lennon explained:

What we're really doing is sending out a message to the world, mainly to the youth, especially the youth or anybody, really, that's interested in protesting for peace or protesting against any forms of violence... There's many ways of protest, and this is one of them. And anybody could grow their hair for peace or give up a week of their holiday for peace or sit in a bag for peace. Protest against peace, anyway, but peacefully, because we think that peace is only got by peaceful methods, and to fight the establishment with their own weapons is no good, because they always win, and they have been winning for thousands of years. They know how to play the game violence, and it's easier for them when they can recognize you and shoot you.

By October 1969, "Give Peace a Chance" had become a universal chant at anti-Vietnam War demonstrations. On November 15, during a peace rally in Washington, D.C., the legendary folk singer Pete Seeger led nearly half a million demonstrators in singing "Give Peace a Chance" at the Washington Monument. Asked what he thought about that day, Lennon later remarked, "I saw pictures of that Washington demonstration on British TV, with all those people singing it, forever and not stopping. It was one of the biggest moments of my life."

Following the Bed-Ins, Lennon and Ono became even more activist-minded, lending their support to the plight of the working class by way of a shipbuilders' work-in, railing against the Vietnam War, voicing their discontent over the brutal murders of 14 unarmed civil rights protesters in Northern Ireland (memorialized in "Luck of the Irish" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday"), bemoaning the death toll from the uprising at Attica Prison and holding forth with leading American peace activists of the day such as Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman -- all the while, using music as the medium for their message. Released in October 1971, Lennon's Imagine album would become his musical calling card for world peace.

In December 1971, Lennon appeared at a benefit concert in Ann Arbor, Michigan, for peace activist John Sinclair, who had been arrested in 1969 for selling two joints to an undercover policewoman and was sentenced to ten years in prison (hence the lyric "They gave him ten for two" in Lennon's song "John Sinclair"). The day before the concert, the Michigan Supreme Court denied Sinclair's appeal. By this point, Sinclair had been in prison for two and a half years. The rally, which was broadcast live, drew 15,000 attendees, who gathered to hear Lennon perform. The next day, the Michigan Supreme Court reversed its decision, and Sinclair was set free.

Writing for Time, Martin Lewis concludes, "Of all Lennon's legacies, one of the most enduring, and perhaps the most impressive, is who his enemies were. The true measure of his greatness was that in the 1970s he terrified the most powerful man in the world." While it's open for debate whether Lennon had more enduring legacies than inspiring terror in government operatives, there is no doubt that for a little while, at least, he became enemy number one in the eyes of the U.S. government. This resulted in a four-year campaign of surveillance and harassment by the U.S. government -- spearheaded by J. Edgar Hoover, an attempt by President Richard Nixon to have him "neutralized" and deported, and an FBI file more than 400 pages deep.

Right up until his death on December 8, 1980, at the hands of an assassin, Lennon remained true to the anti-war activism that had shaped much of his life. The same, unfortunately, cannot be said for the nation he came to call home. According to the latest report by the Institute for Economics and Peace, the U.S. spends $2.16 trillion annually on violence containment -- that is, anything related to inflicting, preventing or dealing with the consequences of violence. This includes everything from costs associated with national defense and law enforcement to prisons, counterterrorism and border control. That's a lot of money -- roughly one out of every seven dollars spent per year or $7,000 per American taxpayer annually -- to not only administer violence, war and killing but deal with the after-effects of them, as well.

Put another way, the amount we spend, 15 percent of the U.S. economy, to administer and contain violence annually equals the United Kingdom's entire economic output. That same money, if most of it were channeled into more productive avenues such as education and health care, would reduce unemployment by 13 percent.

One can only imagine what John Lennon would say about a world where more money is spent on feeding the war machine than on feeding the poor.

The Walking Dead: Secrets Revealed At 2012 New York Comic Con (PHOTOS & VIDEO)

0
0

NEW YORK -- Comic book enthusiasts, writers, illustrators, celebrities and some 115,000 attendees gathered this weekend in New York City for the seventh annual, sold-out New York Comic Con. There was, however, no mistaking the fact that a large draw to the event was a panel of celebrities from AMC's popular post-apocalyptic show, "The Walking Dead."

The 3,000-seat IGN Theater at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was jam-packed with zombie-loving fans -- including some who waited nearly eight hours for a chance to get inside.

AMC's Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick moderated the event. Joining Hardwick on stage was "The Walking Dead" comic creator Robert Kirkman, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and stars Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes), Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes), Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Danai Gurira (Michonne), David Morrissey (The Governor) and Michael Rooker (Merle Dixon).

Hardwick kicked the event off with a clip from Sunday's third season premiere of the horror-drama. The short clip hit the mark with fans, who roared as the sneak-peak clearly demonstrated there would be no pause in the action that drew fans into the exhilarating series' first two seasons.

"I think everyone would agree after the way we ended the second season, backing off in any way and slowing the pace down would have been a mistake," Kirkman said. "We kind of hit the ground running ... and it just kind of goes from there. It's just absolutely nonstop."

According to Lincoln, Season 3 will contain more zombie kills than its predecessors.

"It's been pretty intense this season," Lincoln said. "I made the fatal error this year of going into the writers' room and saying, 'What do you think Rick's breaking point is?' Well, that's the worst thing I could have said. We find out this season ... He's going to the dark side."

Riggs, whose character remained out of commission for much of Season 2 while recovering from a gunshot wound, will play a much larger role in Season 3, according to Hurd.

"This time, when someone asks 'Where's Carl?' we can say, 'In the house -- killing zombies,'" she remarked.

Riggs described his character's transition as going from "child to boy soldier."

When Hardwick asked Riggs during the event if his character was "turning into an awesome killing machine," Riggs replied, "It's really fun for me to play more of a dark character ... you can definitely see the change ... you get to see this kid adapt to this world, and he's definitely done that."

Reedus had the crowd sing "Happy Birthday" to his son Mingus, who turned 13 that day. Afterward, he addressed his character's state of mind and the return of Rooker, who disappeared during Season 1.

"I think Daryl feels value in these people relying on him," Reedus said. "I think this is his new family and he'd do anything to keep them alive. He's more sensitive and more aggressive at the same time."

PHOTOS FROM THE WALKING DEAD EVENT: (Story Continues Below)

Reedus also revealed a running gag on the set between himself and Lincoln. He said he will often whisper, "Love you" to Lincoln -- to which his co-star will reply, "F**k you."

Gurira, whose character is a newcomer to the TV series, offered some insight on the katana-wielding stranger named Michonne.

"I think Michonne is a bit of a thriver," Gurira said. "Getting from [a] pre-apocalyptic world to [a] post-apocalyptic world, whatever happens there is something where you do or you die. Her choice to 'do' was a very intense and powerful choice that allowed her to recreate herself into a formidable force in this realm."

Morrissey, another new addition to the cast for Season 3, plays "The Governor," a character made popular in the "The Walking Dead" comic book series. Asked by Hardwick if The Governor is evil, Morrissey replied, "It's an interesting term, evil. Isn't it? Depends upon what you want it to be."

"He's evil," Lincoln interjected, garnering a roar of laughter from the crowd.

Rooker did not offer any details on the return of Merle Dixon. When asked what makes his character appealing to fans, Rooker said Dixon is "a tough a**hole."

During a Q&A with fans, Lincoln was asked to examine a woman's Walking Dead leg tattoo. Much to the surprise of the audience, Lincoln jumped off the stage and gave his approval. Afterward, he and Reedus posed for a photo with the woman.

A young fan in the audience asked the cast what their weapon of choice would be in the event of an actual zombie apocalypse. Here are the details:

Lincoln: flamethrower; Riggs: lancer (from the Gears of War video game); Reedus: bazooka; Gurira: katana sword; Morrissey: Chuck Norris; Rooker: arm-attached rocket launcher or bazooka.

CAST YOUR VOTE IN THE WEAPON OF CHOICE POLL: (Story Continues Below)

The crowd offered loud boos when a fan asked Kirkman if the survivors would find a cure for the zombie plague. Kirkman left no doubt about the producer's intentions.

"If we were into finding the cure, this would be a completely different show," Kirkman said. "This is about the struggle to survive. That's the story we want to tell. It's much more engaging."

One of the last questions offered to the panel brought laughter when a fan started off by saying, "Well, I have DISH Network ..." (The satellite provider recently ended a television programming contract with AMC and no longer carries their programming). The fan was cut off before he could finish by Kirkman, who jokingly led the audience in a chant of "Screw DISH!"

Once the crowd calmed down, Hardwick suggested the fan find an alternative provider.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8c on AMC and is directly followed by the Talking Dead.

WATCH: Connie Britton's New Movie

"The Fitzgerald Family Christmas" is a homecoming of sorts Edward Burns: The new film reunites the writer/director/star with Michael McGlone and Connie Britton, both of whom starred in "The Brothers McMullen," Burns' breakout 1995 indie.

Starring that aforementioned trio -- Burns also worked with McGlone on "She's the One" and the short film "Doggy Bags"; Britton appeared in "No Looking Back" and "Looking for Kitty" -- as well as a cadre of recognizable character actors (Kerry Bishe, Heather Burns, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Marsha Dietlein, Noah Emmerich, Brian James D'Arcy, Daniella Pineda, Ed Lauter), "The Fitzgerald Family Christmas" is a spiritual cousin to "The Brothers McMullen." The film takes place on Long Island and focuses on an Irish-American family -- in this case, the Fitzgeralds -- dealing with some internal strife around the holiday season.
