Katie Holmes Is 'Very Happy' With Divorce Settlement

The details surrounding Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's divorce settlement will remain private, but sources say Holmes is "very happy" with the agreement.

Multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the 33-year-old actress got everything she wanted -- including primary legal custody of their 6-year-old daughter, Suri.

"She won and is happy. Very happy," said a source close to the soon-to-be ex-Mrs. Cruise. "She can move on and finally live her life."

Holmes filed for divorce from her husband of five years on June 29, and though a recent interview with Elle magazine suggests that Holmes had been planning to divorce Cruise for some time, sources told Us Weekly that her decision to end her marriage wasn't easy, and she "did this only for her daughter."

Holmes and Cruise came to a settlement in record time, and according to TMZ it was all because of Hollywood's best-dressed 6-year-old that things moved so quickly and with such civility.

Sources tell the website that it was a series of conversations about how Suri would be "irreparably damaged by parental warfare" that kept things between the superstar couple at bay, and allowed their lawyers to strike a deal.

As previously stated, details into the settlement have not been released and are likely to remain private. However, sources told Us Weekly the terms of the agreement will bring exciting changes for Holmes.

"She has her career back and her daughter. She will be a huge star now. . . This was all played so well. Katie is very happy with how it all came out," said the source.

NEW YORK — They haven't performed together in over a decade, but the surviving members of Run-DMC are set to reunite this fall at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas.

Joseph Simmons, now known as Rev. Run, and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels retired the group after their DJ, Jam Master Jay, was killed in 2002. But it was announced Tuesday that the band will be among the performers for the Nov. 2-4 event. Festival organizers say they plan to donate some of the proceeds to the JMJ Foundation for Music, which works to give youth access to the arts.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group is best known for hits like "Walk This Way," "It's Like That" and "My Adidas."

Jane Fonda's 'Fulfilling Sex Life'

Whether in a leotard and a thick pair of leg warmers or stunning on the red carpet in fitted gowns, Jane Fonda has never been shy about her body. And the star made no exception when she dished with Britain's Hello! magazine about her relationship with music producer Richard Perry, 70.

"At 74, I have never had such a fulfilling sex life," Fonda shared.

The pair have been together for two and a half years. Fonda met Perry while recuperating from knee replacement surgery; since moving in together, the two haven't been apart since, Fonda said.

Fonda -- who has been married three times, most notably to eccentric billionaire Ted Turner -- told Hello! she has found a great love unlike anything she's ever experienced before:

"The only thing I have never known is true intimacy with a man. I absolutely wanted to discover that before dying. It has happened with Richard, I feel totally secure with him. Often, when we make love, I see him as he was 30 years ago."

Fonda has been heating up the silver screen as well, playing a randy ex-hippie in the film "Peace, Love and Misunderstanding." She ends up (spoiler alert!) inadvertently sharing smokin' hot Jeffrey Dean Morgan with her middle-aged daughter, played by Catherine Keener. "At this odd old age I'm becoming more glamorous than I ever was when I was meant to be," she told The Huffington Post. "I want to go against type and give hope."

Fonda's "fulfilling" sex life is clearly part of what she's termed her "third act" in her book, "Prime Time" (the stage of life after 60). In her 2011 TedxWomen talk, she envisioned a staircase as the appropriate metaphor for aging, "the upperward ascension of the human spirit bringing us into wisdom, wholeness and authenticity."

And apparently, a whole lot more fun in the sack.

Cruise-Holmes Divorce Boosts Sales For Celebrity Weeklies

Just after the news broke that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were getting a divorce, three out of the six major weekly celebrity magazines featured the couple on their covers, resulting in great sales for all three.

“Whenever you see the same person, or couple in this case, on three covers, you expect weekly sales to be down as a result of saturation,” one weekly news editor told me. “But the Tom and Katie story is so strong that all three magazines that went with them [on the cover] sold very well -- way above average.”

Now that Cruise and Holmes have announced that they reached a divorce settlement in what seems like a new record time, all the weeklies (with the exception of OK, which has an earlier printing deadline) can decide whether to go with the story on the cover once again.

“After seeing last weeks [sales] numbers, I expect at least three of the weeklies will feature Tom and Katie again,” one magazine insider told me. “You keep riding a horse until it's dead, and with Tom and Katie, interest in this bizarre marriage and split could last weeks. I know for sure that although the divorce is over, our fascination with Tom and Katie is not over yet.”

Currently, Kate Gosselin holds the record for having the most consecutive covers of a weekly magazine, having appeared on the front of Us Weekly for seven consecutive issues -- a record that Katie Holmes might break.

Jessica Biel Admits That Justin Timberlake Picks Out Her Outfits

Jessica Biel has been pretty busy these days being the future Mrs. Justin Timberlake -- planning a wedding to one of America's bonafide dreamboats is no easy feat. But the actress has managed to squeeze in a couple of major fashion covers.

After flashing a bit of sideboob and dishing about shedding her squeaky clean image in the April issue of W, the engaged 30-year-old is now InStyle's August cover girl. This time around, Jessica looks more the part of America's sweetheart, posing in a cardigan and jeans for photographer Dusan Reljin.

And even though we've spotted her with one of The Row's most coveted bags, the "Total Recall" star insists that Justin is the more stylish one of the two. She even admits that, in addition to choosing her engagement ring, he picks out outfits for her:

I had no say whatsoever. I don’t micromanage. He is fearless in his choices and has a real eye for design. And I’ll be honest: He has better taste than I do. When I walk out of the closet after getting dressed in the morning, I’ll go like this [turns palms upwards as if to say, ‘Well?’]. And he goes like this [shakes head no]. Then he picks again. It’s hilarious.

We'd really like to see how that plays out in real life (or borrow Justin for some personalized style advice and our own getting-ready session). Regardless, Jessica is looking pretty confident on her latest cover, so we're sure she did just fine without him on this shoot.

Zayn Malik's relationship with Perrie Edwards has gotten all serious - it seems they have uttered those three little words to each other.

zayn perrie

The One Direction star has publicly declared his love for the Little Mix singer as she celebrated her birthday.

But seeing as this is the digital era, he did it via the medium of Twitter to his four million followers.

He tweeted: "a very special happy birthday to my baby perrie ! :D x mwah love you x"

Young love. Don't it warm your cockles?

It was revealed the couple were dating in May, when Zayn was caught leaving Perrie's house after a 'sleepover'.

The pair then confirmed their romance, but have remained pretty tight-lipped about it since.

When she appeared on This Morning, Perrie said it was easier being in a relationship with someone who was also in a band.

She told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: "It's more understanding because you get it and it's more exciting when you see each other.

"But when you don't see each other, you're so focused in the studio, our mindset is on what we're doing, so it's important to be like that."

Peter O'Toole Retires

$

Peter O'Toole, legendary star of stage and screen, has announced his retirement from acting, just shy of his 80th birthday.

"It is time for me to chuck in the sponge. To retire from films and stage. The heart for it has gone out of me: it won’t come back," O'Toole wrote in a statement. "My professional acting life, stage and screen, has brought me public support, emotional fulfillment and material comfort. It has brought me together with fine people, good companions with whom I’ve shared the inevitable lot of all actors: flops and hits. However, it’s my belief that one should decide for oneself when it is time to end one’s stay. So I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell."

O'Toole began his career on stage -- as the press release notes, at 27 he was called "the finest Hamlet of his generation" -- but shot to screen fame after being cast as the lead in David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia." (According to Hollywood lore, O'Toole grabbed the role of T.E. Lawrence after Marlon Brando and Albert Finney declined.) His performance earned him the first of eight Academy Award nominations for Best Actor (he lost to Gregory Peck for "To Kill a Mockingbird" that year) and is still culturally relevant to this day. Ridley Scott used clips of O'Toole in "Lawrence of Arabia" in "Prometheus," as Michael Fassbender's android based his human persona on the actor -- up to and including his hair.

Following "Lawrence of Arabia," O'Toole went on to star in such classic films as "The Lion in the Winter," "Goodbye Mr. Chips," "Caligula," "Man of La Mancha," "My Favorite Year" and "The Last Emperor." Younger movie fans might know his less-serious work in "Club Paradise," "King Ralph" and "Troy." O'Toole also provided the voice of Anton Ego in Pixar's acclaimed film "Ratatouille."

Beyond his work on stage and screen, O'Toole is also famous for his proclivity to overindulgence in alcohol. That clouded his early career -- a profile by Gay Talese highlighted many of O'Toole's alcohol-related adventures -- and even led to his 1975 hospitalization for an "abdominal irregularity."

"It was a photo-finish, the surgeons said," O'Toole recalled. According to a report in The Daily Mail, O'Toole's health was at such a risk that even one drink could have killed him after the rupture.

"The time has come to stop roaming," he said at the time. "The pirate ship has berthed. I can still make whoopee, but now I do it sober."

O'Toole's eight Best Actor nominations make him the most-nominated actor to never win the award. He was last nominated for "Venus" in 2006. O'Toole won an honorary Oscar in 2003.

They both hail from across the pond, are superheroes in their fields and have more or less the same first name. When it comes to Andrew Garfield and Andy Murray, the similarities -- including their uncanny resemblance, of course -- are pretty shocking.

But while Murray plays superhero on the tennis court, nearly nabbing the 2012 Wimbledon championship from Roger Federer, Garfield plays savior on the big screen, making Manhattan his playground in "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Michael Bialas: Mira Sorvino on Family Values, Reunions and Her Juiciest Role Yet

$
0
0

Her status as a leading lady is undeniable, but Mira Sorvino shouldn't mind being called a character actress. After all, she's played some crazy characters.

Her latest, a bipolar damsel in distress from the Bronx who loves life one minute, then detests it the next, is juicy Lucy in the New York indie drama Union Square, which will be in limited release beginning Friday (July 13).

"It's perhaps the juiciest of all roles I've ever had because she can swing in both directions," Sorvino said during a phone conversation two days after the film's June 25 premiere in New York.

US_onesheetThat's saying a lot for a talented performer who won the Academy Award in the delicious title role of Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite in 1995 as a prostitute/porn star, then won over an entirely different crowd as the hilariously flaky (and Post-it notes inventor) Romy White in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion in 1997.

It's a family reunion that drives Union Square, which has its share of comedic moments but definitely isn't a comedy. Lucy is the flirtatious free spirit in cheap but eye-catching attire who comes into the city to make up with her estranged and seemingly strait-laced sister Jenny (played by Tammy Blanchard).

The sexy, sassy Sorvino displays a wide range of emotions in a riveting starring role. As a bonus, she also made a touching film that stresses the importance of family -- even if they all just can't get along.

The familial aspect relates to audiences in a very personal way because, Sorvino said, "It's about the old adage that you can't live with them and you can't shoot 'em. The third part of that is that you have to love them. And the film is really ultimately about love."

It's a subject Sorvino certainly embraces these days while raising a family of her own. In early May, the 44-year-old statuesque beauty gave birth to her fourth child.

Admittedly overconfident after going through labor three times previously, she waited until the last minute to get to the hospital and said she came close to delivering on the 10 freeway in Los Angeles.

Mira Sorvino elevatorIt sounds like something Lucy might have done. And though Sorvino (left, in Union Square) didn't draw from her past to create Lucy, she said, "There were elements that I could relate to from my family... and people that I've known throughout my life.

"And so the character's really sort of an amalgam of many different people and people from the Triborough area that happen to be Italian-American, which I know a little about. There's a lot of drama in Italian families."

Sorvino learned a lot about drama -- and performing -- from her acting parents, Paul Sorvino and Lorraine Davis, who met at a class in the 1960s conducted by esteemed teacher Sandy Meisner.

Her mom, who quit acting to raise a family that included Mira's younger siblings Michael and Amanda, went on to provide drama therapy to Alzheimer's patients. Her busy dad, Mira reported, just completed his fourth movie of the summer that included Raging Bull II, the Jake LaMotta sequel that MGM is trying to stop, and Last I Heard, in which he plays an aging Don.

During a long and successful career, Paul Sorvino forever established himself among New York pop culture royalty as mob boss/father figure Paulie Cicero in Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas.

Making sure to set the record straight regarding her own New York roots, Mira pointed out that -- despite what's on websites such as imdb.com and Wikipedia -- she didn't become a Jersey girl until she was 4 years old.

"I was born in Manhattan (Beth Israel) not in Tenafly, as the Internet says," Sorvino revealed.

"We moved to New Jersey actually after a homeless man almost fell on top of me in a sandbox. And my parents freaked out and they decided to move to the suburbs. This is pre-Giuliani time [referring to Rudy Giuliani, who was New York's Mayor from 1994-2001]. So we moved to New Jersey.

"I had a lovely, bucolic, suburban upbringing with lots of trees and grass and running around and playing and catching frogs and things like that," said Sorvino, who first started learning improv through games and skits her mother developed for the kids at birthday parties. "And then when I graduated from college, I promptly moved back to the city and have had a place here ever since."

Dad gave Mira acting tips but discouraged her from joining the profession until she finished school, even nixing his daughter's chance to do a TV series when she was 8. "I appreciate that," Sorvino said of his firm stand. "I'm really glad that I didn't."

Instead, Mira performed in school plays while Paul turned into a backstage father.

"It was a little hard because other kids, their parents would come backstage and say, 'Honey that was great. You were fantastic.' And my father would be like, 'Oh honey, that was wonderful. I just have scene notes for you,'" Sorvino recalled. "And he'd be with me for two hours and break down the performance and tear it apart. But, in doing so, I got really thorough acting lessons and learned my craft from him at a very early age."

Those principles will be passed on to Mira's children, although three of them had cameos in Union Square, the film directed by Nancy Savoca that was first unveiled at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival.

"You've only got one childhood," Mira Sorvino said. "Why should you spend it as a professional? You're gonna have to work the rest of your life."

Sorvino eventually got her parents' blessing to audition for a role when she was 16 1/2 after "a talent scout came to my high school looking for girls who could horseback ride and act." She wisely waited to make it her chosen profession until graduating magna cum laude from Harvard in 1989.

While Lucy's IQ falls short of Mira's, she's not a dumb blond, a reputation forever attached to Romy White and Mighty Aphrodite's Linda Ash. Lucy has street smarts, and uses that to her advantage, whether dealing with the vendors at the Farmers Market or trying to make herself at home in her sister's loft apartment.

That character "really inhabited me," said Sorvino, who found Lucy to be different from a number of previous roles "because I think it's sort of a meatier story than some of the other ones who were on the surface similarly uncensored and funny."

"If you compare her to Romy or to Mighty Aphrodite, this is definitely a smarter character even though she can't manage her life very well," Sorvino added. "But she really understands other people very well. She's very insightful. She's just kind of a mess at this moment."

That duality made it both gratifying and taxing for Sorvino, especially on a low budget film that was shot sequentially over a two-week period in November 2010. It required a lot of quick thinking and improvisation during some of Union Square's intense, confrontational moments.

"Yeah, certain days I just wanted scenes to be over, over, over," Sorvino said. "But other days, I just kind of loved being her because the fun side of her is really delightful. [...] She's crazy like a fox. She knows what's she's doing half the time and kind of gets her way by just kind of barging in and steamrolling people.

"But she's also kind of... she's lovable. I think that's the thing about Nancy Savoca's directing is that she's really compassionate to all the characters and she doesn't make judgments on them."

Inventing a new character required a refresher course in Bronx-speak from Savoca, a reliable source since she was born there. Sorvino originally got the accent down while tape-recording borough residents for roles as Italian-American girls in Gary Winick's Sweet Nothing with Michael Imperioli in 1995 and Spike Lee's Summer of Sam in 1999.

Blanchard Sorvino hugsSorvino obviously feels at home on the streets of New York. (Sorvino's Lucy, middle, appears ready for a free hug in Union Square while Tammy Blanchard's Jenny isn't so sure.)

A handheld Canon 5D camera was used throughout the production, and a number of exterior shots were taken without the public's prior knowledge. That included the powerful opening scene, when Lucy falls apart while cursing out one of the men in her life during a cell phone call.

"I had people running up to me... where I'm crying my eyes out in the park, asking me if I was OK. Literally saying, 'Are you OK?' And I would have to duck out of sight, end the take and tell them it was a movie," Sorvino said of the non-actors who were later asked to sign releases to be in the film. "But I appreciated their concern. ... It was nice to know New Yorkers care."

Saying she's a "New Yorker at heart," it's obviously tough for Sorvino to talk about moving with her family to the West Coast -- for the time being.

"Hopefully it's only a temporary farewell and not a permanent one," she said. "Basically, we're sort of streamlining and our kids are going to school in L.A. We have a full-time home in New York and a full-time home in L.A. and it just doesn't make sense because we really didn't get here enough last year to justify kind of keeping the full-time home here."

The business requires more time in Los Angeles now for Sorvino and her actor/husband Chris Backus, who's directing his first feature film, The Sessionist.

"We're committing to (the move) now because we have school-aged children and we can't just be as bicoastal as we used to be," said Sorvino, who's trying to balance a career with family and personal projects.

Sorvino remains deeply committed to her volunteer role as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime to combat human trafficking. Except while making films such as The Grey Zone, she said she rarely has the chance to "express my intellectual side and my social activism side."

So for a deep thinker whose summa thesis on racial conflict in China won a Hoopes Prize, Sorvino welcomes the opportunity, even if it requires finding time when the kids are asleep or at school to write speeches or meet with trafficking survivors.

Sorvino's art and life will interact with her next film, scheduled for a September release. While Trade of Innocents, with Dermot Mulroney, deals with the Cambodian sex trade of children, Sorvino works to end a problem that also hits close to home.

Trying to influence lawmakers in this country to write legislation on the state level where it reaches the victims is important, she said, because trafficking of minors affects "our own sons and daughters and sisters and brothers."

Staying heavily involved in that role does limit her options in choosing other film projects. Especially since being "pregnant four times in like seven years" has "affected my acting career in one huge logistical way."

Sorvino recently made a run at prime-time TV as the star of Trooper, a Jerry Bruckheimer-produced pilot about a New York State police officer, and was disappointed that CBS didn't pick it up for the fall.

At least that might give her time to attend another High School Reunion.

bigger romy cover"Hey, your mouth to Disney's ears," she said when asked about the chance of Romy and Michele teaming up again. "We've tried and, for some reason, it's not something that they want to approve at this moment, but (costar) Lisa (Kudrow) and I and Robin Schiff, the creator of the original script, are all down for it. So, while we can still walk and have our teeth and eyesight, we would love to do another one."

Sorvino believes there's a market for it, noting how fans reacted after seeing her and Kudrow posing in Post-it note dresses for "The Reunions Issue" in Entertainment Weekly last October.

"We had so much fun getting together on that," Sorvino said of Kudrow, her friend from Friends whose Web Therapy appears on Showtime. "Lisa just brings out this side in me that very few people have brought out in me except for my friends when I was in high school. Like she turns me into a clown, and I'm not usually the clown."

Maybe not, but she is a character. And expect this portrayal of a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown in Union Square to make viewers living on the edge of their seats say:

"I love this Lucy."

Noel Gallagher: Tales From the Middle of Nowhere (Vol. 2): Where I Go Jazz

Comrades... this will be a long one.

So, the last time we spoke was when? Two weeks ago? Must have been? Was it? Hang on... let me check... that's right... it was the night before the festival in Belgium. Okay... right I'll get my thinking cap on and give you the low-down (as best I can anyway!).

So... I remember the festival being quite a big one. Massive crowd. Big guns headlining. Think it was them Red Hot Chilli Peppers on my night (yes it was!). The show itself was okay. Not bad. It certainly broke the run of amazing shows that's for sure. The best thing about it was I was introduced onstage by Vincent Kompany, Manchester City's captain. He's from Brussels see? And me and him were going to do the launch of the new Manchester City kits for next season. Both of these occurrences were a true honour. Vinnie's a top boy. Might actually be the coolest lad on the planet. We hung out after the show and watched the Euro Championship final. Happy days!!

The next day I had to be up early to do the football kit thing. Hadn't actually gone to bed 'til 4am so I wasn't feeling (or looking!) the best. Vinnie on the other hand had managed an early night and turned up looking like the super-cool, well oiled athlete he is. I on the other hand stunk of cigs and alcohol looking every bit like the 45-year-old father of three that I am. Not good. Not good at all. In all my time in this game that might have been the single most difficult thing I've ever had to do.

At one point I think I was sweating pure alcohol. Imagine doing that while one of your heroes looks down on you and asks if you're alright, while a photographer snaps away asking you if "you could just get a bit closer?" Did it though and the kit looks the bollocks.

So, after that I remember we flew to Montreux in Switzerland for a show at the "Montreux Jazz Festival"!! That's right, you heard... "the Montreux JAZZ Festival". Not sure what I was doing there but a gig's a gig and what a gig!! A right good laugh and all. And I got presented (on stage which was a bit weird) with a very expensive watch by the founder of the festival Mr. Claude Nobs (pronounced CLOUD NEBZ). Worth €3000!! Or so he informed the audience anyway. Thanks very much Mr.Nobs... just what I've always wanted... my very own jazz watch!!

So after that we drove overnight to Milan. I love Milan and Italy in general. Weather was mad hot. Must've been nearly 100 onstage!! Not as hot as Coachella but proper sizzling all the same. Show was alright. Nothing more, nothing less. I remember being taken out for dinner after to some swanky footballery type gaff. Very nice it was too... Beckham used to go there I'm told.

So... after that would have been T in the Park? Yes, I think so!! Horrific weather. Dark black clouds. Torrential rain, rain, rain. Mud every-fucking-where. Horrible... and that was just BACKSTAGE!!! Lord only knows what it was like out front? Still (and this is truly amazing) it never spoiled the atmosphere. The crowd up there are something else. Unbelievable behaviour. Well done!

We had a great show bar a couple of hiccups here and there but we smashed it!! We were on before the Stone Roses. It was great to see them AND to see them enjoying themselves. A great night all round.

After that we flew to Birmingham to do a little acoustic gig for that radio station Kerrang!! That's right, you heard. A heavy metal radio station. Don't ask... I didn't. It was good though.

So... after that we flew here to the south of France. Fucking plane was full of young people (off on their holidays one would imagine). Giggling girls and boys with sideways haircuts and girls jeans on... that's what it looked like to me anyway.

I think that's about it. Got a festival tonight. A big one... it must be big 'cause the mighty Franz Ferdinand are headlining!! What was that?? Of course they're still going!!!!

ONWARDS.

SNEAK PEEK: Sigourney Weaver Means Business In 'Political Animals'

Don't even think about keeping Secretary of State Elaine Barrish (Sigourney Weaver) in the dark.

In this exclusive clip from an upcoming episode of USA's "Political Animals" above, Weaver adresses the Cabinet and President Garcetti (Adrian Pasdar) about a diplomatic crisis involving a hostage case.

"You were trying to handle a diplomatic crisis with a hostile regime in a combustible region internally?" Elaine snaps when she finds out information has been kept from her.

"Political Animals" is a six-part series that follows the drama of the former first family. The upcoming USA series stars Weaver, Sebastian Stan, Ellen Burstyn, James Wold, Carla Gugino and more.

So how does Weaver feel about stepping into the role of a powerful leader and tough character?

"I'm so weird. And Elaine is so... You know how people in school are elected to office? I was never that person," Weaver told HuffPost. "Elaine was always that person. I'm the freak looking at her. If it was The Parent Trap, she'd be the girl scout and I'd be the goblin. That's how I look at Elaine, but I love putting on her clothes and playing her."

"Political Animals" premieres on Sunday, July 15 at 10 p.m. ET on USA.

PHOTO: Snooki's 'Sitting-Only' Shoes Should Not Be A Thing

Snooki has gotten flack for (among many other things) wearing high heels while pregnant. She's by no means the first celeb to stick with her stilettos while pregnant (shoe-obsessed Jessica Simpson lasted a solid eight months).

But the "Jersey Shore" star has been playing fast and loose with her heel height, taking a spill in her platform sandals last month. Cue the critics, who said the mom-to-be was being careless.

So Snooki seems to have found a compromise, whereby she can keep her heels yet stay safe: sitting-only shoes. Earlier this week, Snooki tweeted a photo of her well-heeled feet with the caption:

"I can only rock these heels when I sit. So sitting fabulous with shoes is better then nothin!"

Which, just, no. Shoes you cannot walk in are like purses that can't open or pockets too small to hold things: inconvenient and useless and therefore completely silly. Heels are fantastic -- but only when worn sensibly.

These are the Rules of High Heels, as laid down by the staff of HuffPost Style:

1. Heels are (almost) never necessary. See: Charlize Theron rocking flats on the red carpet.

2. When wearing heels, one must be able to move in them, because...
     a. Wobbling makes you look stupid.
     b. You could hurt yourself.
     c. Wearing something you cannot function in makes zero sense and we are all      sensible ladies, are we not?

3. Being pregnant is a nine-month excuse to never wear heels. Embrace it.

Those are our rules and we're sticking to 'em. Snooki, care to join us in the land of the sensible?

Seven Minutes In Heaven: Comic-Con Attendees See 'Breaking Dawn' Footage

SAN DIEGO -- About 6,000 fans of "The Twilight Saga" were treated to a surprise look at the first seven minutes of the final film installment, "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," which hits theaters in November.

Many slept overnight for a chance to attend the panel presentation at Comic-Con on Thursday, which featured appearances by the stars of the vampire-romance series, including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

A "Twilight" fan who had camped out since Sunday for a chance to attend the panel was killed Tuesday when she was hit by a car while crossing a street near the San Diego Convention Center. Comic-Con's head of marketing addressed the fans gathered in the convention hall to say he was shocked at the woman's death and said, "our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to her family."

The panel's moderator also began by paying tribute to 53-year-old Gisela Gagliardi of New York, saying she "will always live in our hearts and memories."

But the sadness was quickly replaced by frenzied screams as Stewart, Pattinson, Lautner and fellow cast members Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz and series author Stephenie Meyer took the stage.

Director Bill Condon appeared via video from London, where he is recording the score for the film.

"Everyone knows the phenomenon of `Twilight' really exploded here (at Comic-Con), and we're all aware, too, this is the last time," he said. "Twilight" first inspired a Beatlemania-style response when the cast of the beloved best-seller was introduced at the annual pop-culture convention four years ago.

The opening moments of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" show Bella Swan (Stewart) adjusting to her new life as a vampire. It was fun for Stewart, too.

"It felt so good to break her in, to see how fast the car goes," she said from the stage after the footage was shown. "`Twilight' vampires are very unique. They're not like all vampires... Everyone's powers are informed by how they were when they were human.

"I love her. I think she's the coolest one, so I had fun doing it."

Reed said she feels like she came of age during the production of the "Twilight" films.

"We were kids when we started this," the 24-year-old actress said. "We're growing into adults and we're all at different places in our lives."

Stewart said appearing with her "Twilight" cast mates for their final Comic-Con panel, "is kind of sad, man."

"This is sad right now, to be honest," she said. "We got to live here, we got to live in this world for such a crazy long period of time compared to the amount of time you usually do, but it feels good. It's like, `Yes we did it. Yes, we finished.'"

Meyer has already moved on. She closed the panel by showing a clip from her latest adapted novel, the sci-fi thriller "The Host."

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" opens Nov. 16. Comic-Con continues through Sunday.

WATCH: First Look At 'Oz The Great And Powerful'

Sam Raimi debuted the first footage from the highly anticipated "Oz The Great and Powerful" at Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday, and -- as you can see in the trailer above -- it did not disappoint.

Based on the characters created by L. Frank Baum in "The Wizard of Oz," Raimi's film is a prequel of sorts to the events of the famed story -- as a result, don't expect appearances from Tin Man, Cowardly Lion or Scarecrow; Dorothy's famed ruby slippers won't get screen time either. It's a legal issue, as Raimi told Comic-Con attendees: "[The ruby slippers] are imagery unique to the [original] MGM film, so no, they don't make an appearance in this one."

James Franco stars in "Oz The Great and Powerful" as Oscar Diggs, a small-time magician-slash-con artist, who gets sucked into the world of Oz during a fantastical black-and-white prologue. Once there, he encounters all sorts of bizarre creatures, as well as three witches: Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams).

The footage shown in the Comic-Con trailer is dense, with lots of visual-effect tomfoolery and a sense of fun that gets enhanced by Franco's bewildered charm.

Some film writers in attendance at Comic-Con weren't totally on board with "Oz" -- Hollywood.com's Matt Patches bemoaned the overuse of CGI -- but the brief trailer is certainly promising. Expect to see plenty more about this film between now and its March 8, 2013 release date.

SAN DIEGO — Johnny Depp made a splash at Comic-Con, and he wasn't even there.

About 6,000 fans at the San Diego Convention Center Thursday got the first look at "The Lone Ranger," which stars Depp as Tonto.

Disney unveiled the brief clip at the conclusion of its panel presentation that included glimpses of Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie," Sam Raimi's "Oz: The Great and Powerful" and the video-game romp "Wreck-It Ralph," which features the voices of Sarah Silverman and John C. Reilly.

"The Lone Ranger" is directed by Gore Verbinski, who worked with Depp on the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films and the animated "Rango." It is set for release next summer.

Comic-Con continues through Sunday.

Forget the red carpet premieres and high-profile date spots -- some celebrity couples choose to play it cool and keep quiet when it comes to navigating their love lives in Hollywood.

The latest low-key couple to make their public debut? Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Kristen Wiig and The Strokes drummer -- and Drew Barrymore's ex -- Fabrizio Moretti. The couple, who have been dating since late 2011, stepped out together at the wedding of Wiig's pal Ellie Kemper in New York on July 7.

The "Bridesmaids" actress even alluded to her relationship with Moretti in her Marie Claire cover story, telling the magazine:

"I will say that I'm happier than I've ever been," she says, "and I feel very lucky right now." Why? "Where I am now. Who he is. Those are the two big ones."

Wiig and Moretti are in good company when it comes to keeping a relationship under the radar and choosing not to blatantly blab about their private lives. Check out other low-key celebrity couples below:

SAN DIEGO -- "Wreck-It Ralph" won't hit theaters until November, but about 6,000 fans at Comic-Con got to see 10 minutes of it on Thursday.

The Disney Animation film takes viewers inside the world of vintage arcade games, where characters such as Q-Bert, Clyde the Ghost from "Pac-Man" and Kano from "Mortal Kombat" consider their video-game gigs day jobs, and after 30 years, Wreck-It Ralph is sick of his.

John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch are among the voice stars. Reilly and Silverman appeared alongside director Rich Moore at Thursday's panel.

Moore announced that Grammy-winner Skrillex will contribute music to the soundtrack and "Firefly" star Alan Tudyk will play a role in the film.

Comic-Con continues through Sunday.
