Christopher Guest Shopping TV Comedy?

$

It's been six years since we last had us some Christopher Guest, and that's way too long. Since "For Your Consideration," all the director has produced is the odd Census commercial (and really, who can wait a decade for the resolution of such a cliff-hanger?) or Academy Awards sketch when what we really want is some simple yet hilarious improvisational satire.

Molly Ringwald Outs 'Pretty In Pink' Best Friend Duckie As Gay

Molly Ringwald, the iconic 1980s girl-next-door, is coming clean about the sexuality of one of her "Pretty In Pink" pals -- but the actor who played him is dismissing the allegations.

The 44-year-old Ringwald, who currently stars on the ABC Family series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," tells Out magazine that Duckie, the flamboyant best friend to her character Andie in 1986's "Pretty In Pink," was secretly gay. Though an alternate ending of the classic "Brat Pack" comedy in which Andie ended up Duckie (played by Jon Cryer) rather than Blane (Andrew McCarthy) was filmed, test audiences responded to it negatively.

"Duckie doesn’t know he’s gay," Ringwald tells the publication. "I think he loves Andie in the way that [my gay best friend] always loved me. That ending fell so flat -- it bombed at all the screenings. I didn’t realize it then -- I just knew that my character shouldn’t end up with him, because we didn’t have that sort of chemistry. If John was here now, and I could talk to him, I think that he would completely acknowledge that.”

Ringwald also believes that "Pretty In Pink" screenwriter John Hughes, who died in 2009, "wrote a lot of gay characters" into his other movies like "Some Kind of Wonderful" and "The Breakfast Club." Still, she specifies, "It was something that we never talked about" before continuing that said characters "easily could have been gay" rather than being out and proud in the context of the films.

Cryer, who currently stars opposite Ashton Kutcher on "Two and a Half Men," laughed off Ringwald's assessment. "Yes, she said that the guy whom Duckie was based on was gay. It's a different thing. Let's be clear here," the actor tells Zap2it. "No, she actually said that if one projected beyond the movie, that Duckie would be out by now. And I respectfully disagree."

He went on to note, "I want to stand up for all the slightly effeminate dorks that are actually heterosexual. Just cause the gaydar is going off, doesn't mean your instruments aren't faulty. I've had to live with that, and that's okay."

Ringwald's "Secret Life" character, Anne Juergens, is also reportedly set to have a lesbian fling on the series.

What Are The Deadliest Shows On TV?

There is no shortage of blood, guts and bodies on TV these days, but the show featuring the most deaths is ... "Spartacus: Vengeance," a new report reveals.

Funeralwise.com has released the first-ever death toll study and the Starz series, which brought in around 1.5 million viewers per episode, came in as the clear winner with an average of 25 deaths per episode. HBO's "Game Of Thrones" came in second, clocking in a whopping 14 dead bodies per episode. (Thanks, King Joffrey.)

According to the study's findings, viewers may not be tuning in solely for the high death tolls, but they're certainly not deterrents. “We did not find a direct correlation between the body count and viewership, but these programs are definitely popular with the viewing audience,” Funeralwise's managing partner Rick Paskin said in a statement.

CBS was given the title of "deadliest network" for having the most shows on the list, including "NCIS: Los Angeles," which averaged six dead bodies per episode.

Beastie Boy Discusses MCA's Death For First Time

For the first time since Adam Yauch, MCA of the Beastie Boys, passed away, a member of the group has spoken out about his untimely death.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Adam Horovitz (a.k.a. Ad-Rock) said that he still gets emotional when thinking about his lost friend.

"My wife is like, 'I want to make sure you're getting it out,'" Horovitz told David Fricke in the magazine. "But then I'm walking the dog and I'll start crying on the street. It's pretty f--king crazy."

Yauch died on May 4 after a three-year battle with cancer.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam 'MCA' Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer," said a note on the Beastie Boys' website. "He was 47 years old."

For Horovitz, Yauch was the glue that held the group together.

"Yauch was in charge," he said to Rolling Stone. "He was smarter, more organized. In a group of friends, you all come up with stupid sh-t to do. But you never do it. With Yauch, it got done. He had that extra drive to see things through. We each had our roles. One of his was the make-it-happen person."

Horovitz says that it was Yauch's idea to make the acclaimed video for the song "Sabotage," which cast the Beastie Boys as '70s-style television cops. Spike Jonze directed the clip, which you can watch below.

Along with Yauch and fellow Beastie Mike Diamond, Horovitz was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Hugh Hefner Back Together With Runaway Bride Crystal Harris

Hugh Hefner has a new #1 girl -- his old #1 girl. A year after Playboy bunny Crystal Harris made headlines for ditching Hef just five days before their big wedding, the pair have confirmed that they're back together.

Hefner, 86, and Harris, 26, were engaged in December 2010 after two years together and were to set to tie the knot in a lavish wedding at the Playboy Mansion in front of 300 guests in June 2011.

At the time, Hef took to Twitter to announce their split -- "The wedding is off. Crystal has had a change of heart." -- so it's really no surprise that the pair tweeted their reconciliation.

Hefner tweeted about them getting back together late Thursday night:

Then Harris cleared up "any confusion," confirming that she is, in fact, his #1 girl again:

At the time of their break-up, the July 2011 issue of Playboy had already been printed with Harris on the cover and the headline "Introducing Mrs. Crystal Hefner." Hefner remedied the mistake by slapping each issue with a giant sticker that covered her assets and read: "Runaway Bride In This Issue!"

Harris chose to fire back on Howard Stern's Sirius XM Radio show, telling Stern that sex with Hef only lasted "like two seconds."

"Then I was just over it. I was like, 'Ahhh.' I was over it," Harris said. "I just like, walked away. I'm not turned on by Hef -- sorry."

Hefner also had a change of heart in the media, telling Entertainment Tonight that he felt like he'd dodged a bullet by not marrying Harris. "Quite frankly, I don't know what I was thinking about. I think my natural state is single. I've tried marriage twice, not successfully. These were not the happiest times of my life."

What do you think: Is Hef making a mistake getting back with Crystal?

Actress Kathryn Joosten, best known as "Desperate Housewives'" most meddlesome neighbor Karen McKluskey, died Friday after a long battle with lung cancer. She was 72.

Joosten's death came less than three weeks after the emotional "Desperate Housewives" series finale, which saw the redemption and eventual death of Mrs. McKluskey as well.

Joosten won two Emmys for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her "Desperate" role, in 2005 and 2008, and was nominated for a third time in 2010.

Prior to her residence on Wisteria Lane, Joosten had another tony TV address: The White House. She played Mrs. Landingham, President Bartlet's (Martin Sheen) secretary on "The West Wing" for the series' first two seasons until her character died in a car accident.

She also had memorable TV roles on "Scrubs," "Joan of Arcadia," "My Name Is Earl," "General Hospital" and "Dharma & Greg."

Joosten was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2001. The cancer returned in September 2009. After Joosten underwent surgery and chemotherapy treatments, she was officially declared cancer-free in January 2010. She was an advocate for lung cancer awareness and research, even doing speaking engagements about her battle.

Dana Delany was the first of Joosten's "Desperate" costars to react to the news on Twitter:

According to TVLine, her rep said that Joosten was surrounded by family at the time of her death.

Samberg OUT

LOS ANGELES -- Andy Samberg has wrapped his seven-season run on "Saturday Night Live," a spokeswoman for the actor-comedian said Friday.

Samberg won't return as a cast member next season, according to his publicist, Carrie Byalick. Samberg's exit follows that of "SNL" cast member Kristen Wiig.

Like other "Saturday Night Live" alumni, Samberg will be seen on the big screen. His new movie with Adam Sandler, "That's My Boy," is out this month.

Samberg's "SNL" highlights reel would feature his satiric rap videos including "Lazy Sunday" and a memorable one with Justin Timberlake about an X-rated gift in a box. The fake music video won an Emmy Award in 2007 for best original music and lyrics.

Wiig, Samberg and Jason Sudeikis, all of whom became cast members in the 2005-06 season, have been rumored to be leaving, with "SNL" creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels saying only that any decision would wait until summer.

That presumably meant no emotional on-air farewells.

But on the May 19 finale, Wiig got just that. In the last sketch of the night, guest host Mick Jagger played the principal at a high school graduation and brought up Wiig, in cap and gown, as a student who is "leaving this summer."

A tearful Wiig danced in turn with Jagger, cast members and Michaels to the tune of the Rolling Stones classic "She's a Rainbow."

It's going to be a busy summer in the celebrity baby world, with several stars preparing to welcome a little one into their lives.

Now that Jessica Simpson has given birth to sweet Maxwell Drew -- have you seen her adorable photos? -- let's take a look at some other celebrities who are gearing up for parenthood:

  • Alyson Hannigan: Life has imitated art for the "How I Met Your Mother" star, whose character on the CBS sitcom gave birth this season. Hannigan and her husband, Alexis Denisof, are expecting a baby in June, making their 2-year-old daughter, Satyana, a big sister.
  • Kourtney Kardashian: The eldest Kardashian sister is pregnant again, but this time she and her longtime beau Scott Disick will welcome a darling daughter into their family. Mason as a big brother? Cue more adorable photo ops!
  • Kristin Cavallari: The former "Hills" star-turned-designer and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will become first-time parents this summer when Cavallari gives birth to a bouncing baby boy. Then will wedding bells be ringing for the couple? Perhaps, though Cavallari has admitted that they might try for Baby No. 2 before walking down the aisle.
  • Molly Sims: The fashionista is expecting her first childhuffing -- a boy -- with her husband, Scott Stuber, in June. We have a feeling he is going to be one stylish little guy!
  • Snooki: Believe it or not, the rambunctious "Jersey Shore" star will soon have a new nickname: Mommy. Snooki -- whose real name is Nicole Polizzi -- and her fiance, Jionni LaValle, are thinking blue because they are expecting a baby boy this summer.
  • Sienna Miller: The award for coolest mommy-to-be style definitely goes to the British actress, who is expecting her first childhugf with her rumored fiance, Tom Sturridge.
  • Giuliana Rancic: The "E! News" host's dreams are set to come true in August when she and her husband, Bill Rancic, welcome a baby via surrogate in late summer. Are they thinking pink or blue? They are planning to reveal their baby's sex at an upcoming baby shower.

Tintin Cover Sold For HOW Much?

$

0

A rare hand-drawn "Tintin In America" cover has sold for an astounding $1.6 million at auction. The 1932 drawing by the series' illustrator and writer Herge broke its own record (it had previously sold for $764,000 euros, just four years ago).

"If he'd have been able to get it for less I think he would have been happy," a friend of the anonymous buyer told Reuters. The piece, which depicts a cowboy version of Tintin and his dog Snowy eating as ax-wielding Native Americans creep up behind him, is drawn in Indian ink and gouache.

Tintin hysteria has never really died down since the series debuted in 1929. Though Herge passed away in 1983, the unfortunately coiffed reporter he created continues to be the pride of Belgium. The Belgian people have adorned Brussels with posters celebrating the title character, and the capitol city boasts two museums of interest to Tintin chasers.

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson teamed up to create "The Adventures of Tintin" in 2011. The animated film went on to rake in over $373 million dollars at the worldwide box office.

Elsewhere, artists have taken the Tintin trope and applied it to grim real-life situations. Contemporary and sometimes dark comics have been released, including "Tintin in Tehran" (which took aim at government brutality in Iran), "Tintin in Barcelona" (a drinking binge leaves our dear reporter exhausted) and "Tintin in Gaza" (a chaotic trip, to say the least).

The record-breaking cover is one of only five remaining originals by Herge. Only two are in private hands.

Malin Akerman Talks Tom Cruise Make-Out Scene

In a recent interview with MTV, "Rock Of Ages" star Malin Akerman opened up about her make-out scene with Tom Cruise.

"People keep saying, 'Oh, your kiss with Tom Cruise!' It was literally like two dogs licking each other," Akerman said. "They call action, we go for it, and it is tongue all over."

Making out wasn't all Cruise and Akerman did, though -- their duet got pretty hot and heavy.

"I think I'm the only person who can say that Tom Cruise has sang into my ass," Akerman joked. "To be able to do a duet with Tom Cruise and then to undress him and pretend to make love to him on an air hockey table [while singing 'I Want to Know What Love Is'] ... it was one of the most unbelievable scenes of my life. It was so much fun."

"Rock of Ages," a rock musical that hits theaters June 15, follows a small-town girl (Julianne Hough) who comes to Los Angeles with stars in her eyes and hairspray in her purse. There, she meets a good-hearted dreamer (Diego Boneta) and gets wooed by the rock-and-roll lifestyle, embodied by Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise). Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Mary J. Blige also star.

'Drop Dead Diva' Season 4 Scoop: Star Brooke Elliott Teases Big Changes

$

"Drop Dead Diva" is back (Season 4 premieres Sun., June 3, 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime) and there's a lot to clear up. Last season's big finale ended with Jane (Brooke Elliott) leaving after she saw Grayson (Jackson Hurst) kissing her best friend Stacy (April Bowlby) -- then Stacy telling Grayson Jane's big secret ("I'm not Deb, Jane is.").

Now the tables have turned a bit: Jane is happy with Owen (Lex Medlin) and Grayson is finally the one pursuing her. But who will she ultimately choose?

I caught up with star Brooke Elliott to get scoop on the new season, the ever-changing love triangle and the rumors that we'll see a big proposal this season.

"I don't know if I could reveal that. That's very secretive!," Elliott said with a laugh. "Maybe the relationship with Owen progresses, but people ... they've got to watch, I can't say."

She also teased that, even though we see Ben Feldman leave at the end of the Season 4 premiere (and we know Feldman has been busy on "Mad Men"), we probably haven't seen the last of Jane's guardian angel Fred. "He might pop up later in the season."

In the meantime, there's a new guardian angel keeping an eye on Jane, and Luke (Carter MacIntyre) is a little more determined to keep her in line. "He is hellbent on making sure that Jane does not tell anybody."

Elliott also dished about guest stars Patty Duke, Joan Rivers and Kim Kardashian ("she was very nice" was all she would say), whether or not Judge Paula Abdul would return ("We haven't had her back this season! Maybe next season we can grab her.") and the surprise actor that she'd love to have on the show.

Watch the interview below and tell us: Are you excited for more "Drop Dead Diva"? Who do you think Jane should end up with?

Kathleen Kennedy Heads To Lucasfilm

SAN FRANCISCO -- Filmmaker George Lucas on Friday named veteran producer Kathleen Kennedy as his co-chair and successor at the iconic film studio he founded four decades ago.

Kennedy and Lucas will serve as board co-chairs at Lucasfilm Ltd. as the "Star Wars" creator moves forward with his retirement plans.

Lucas, 68, will continue as CEO and work with Kennedy as she transitions into her new role at Lucasfilm, the San Francisco-based company said.

The legendary filmmaker said he chose Kennedy as his successor because he was looking for "someone with great creative passion and proven leadership abilities, but also someone who loves movies."

"I've spent my life building Lucasfilm, and as I shift my focus into other directions, I wanted to make sure it was in the hands of someone equipped to carry my vision into the future," Lucas said in a statement.

In recent months, Lucas has told reporters he plans to move away from producing big-budget movies so he can focus on smaller, art-house films.

Kennedy will step down from her role at The Kennedy/Marshall Co. and shift responsibilities to her partner Frank Marshall. Together they have produced Academy Award-nominated films such as "War Horse," `'The Adventures of Tintin," `'The Sixth Sense" and "Sea Biscuit."

Over the past three decades, Kennedy has worked with Steven Spielberg to produce blockbuster films such as "E.T.," `'Schindler's List," and the "Indiana Jones" and "Jurassic Park" franchises.

Kennedy, 58, said she feels fortunate that Lucas will work with her for the "next year or two" as she moves into her new job.

"It is nice to have Yoda by your side," Kennedy said in a statement. "George and I have talked about the enormous opportunities that lie ahead for the company, and as George moves towards retirement I am honored that he trusts me with taking care of the beloved film franchises."

Since Lucas founded Lucasfilm in 1971, it has grown into an international entertainment company that produces movies and television shows, designs interactive software, and provides visual effects and audio post-production services.

WATCH: Adele Wore '3 Or 4 Pairs Of Spanx' At The 2012 Grammys

While we were glued to our televisions laptops on Sunday, engrossed in the Diamond Jubilee Barge Pageant and the MTV Movie Awards, there was some awesome going on on NBC: "Adele Live London" with Matt Lauer, the singer's first-ever TV network special.

Adele chatted candidly with Lauer about the wild ride that is her career, including that time Elton John called her on the phone and how she scooped up a bazillion Grammys at this year's awards.

But it's actually a wonder she even made it to the Grammys, considering her complicated wardrobe requirements:

Adele: "I had three or four pairs of Spanx on that night!"

Matt: "Were you comfortable in that? Did you like the way you looked?"

Adele: "I loved it! No, I loved it. I actually had another dress made for the Grammys and I ended up passed out in it -- I had a corset on so I was like, 'I can't wear that.' So I ended up wearing it on short notice."

"It," of course, is the stunning custom Giorgio Armani gown that landed Adele on everyone's "Best Dressed" lists that night. The sparkling black gown, accented by a strong red lip and that soft, wavy blonde hair, stole the show as much as Adele's flawless performance of "Rolling In The Deep."

And speaking of her Grammy performance, Matt asked Adele the question we were definitely thinking ourselves: "Can you sing with four pairs of Spanx on?"

Of course not, said Adele. "I took a couple pairs off when I sang."

Atta girl. Like Octavia Spencer before her, Adele knows when to ditch the body-pinching girdles and just let it go.

Watch a clip of "Adele Live London" and see the dress that required "three or four pairs of Spanx" below.
