Jimmy Fallon Shows Off Baby Pictures, Continues Being Aggressively Likable

It's the Emmys, and the straight white men of late-night were being especially aggressive about being funny and likable and fun! But no one was as funny and likable as fun as Jimmy Fallon, who has babies.

The "Tonight Show" host showed Ryan Seacrest photos of daughters Frances Cole and Winnie Rose, photos that he had conveniently brought with him in a sterling silver frame. Aw, kids! Relatability! Happy #Emmys night, other humans who have produced little humans!

Andy Samberg Gives Out A Real HBO Now Password At The Emmys

You can finally watch HBO ... now!

Since HBO is so chill about people sharing their HBO passwords, Emmys host Andy Samberg gave out a real HBO Now login and password during the show Sunday night. And, as of the writing of this post, it actually works -- although everyone keeps changing the profile name.

Login: khaleesifan3@emmyhost.com

PW: password1

And because they're so chill, HBO even wants to make sure you got it.

They also tweeted out a solution if the account isn't working for you.

So either way, enjoy your free HBO like a boss.

Matt LeBlanc Gives Jimmy Kimmel The Middle Finger At Emmys

At the 2015 Emmys, Jimmy Kimmel presented the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Instead of simply reading off the winner's name on the card in his hands, Kimmel cut out the name, ate the name and said, "I don't know, who should I give it to? This is the worst part."

The award ended up going to Jeffrey Tambor for his role as Maura Pfefferman on the Amazon show "Transparent," but before that, Kimmel made fun of the improbability of Matt LeBlanc winning for the role of playing himself on "Joey" "Episodes."

When Kimmel returned to his seat, he "apologized" to LeBlanc, but perhaps didn't get any sort of forgiveness.

Jon Stewart Accepts Final Emmy For 'Daily Show' In Outstanding Variety Talk Series

Jimmy Fallon stole the show and Stephen Colbert's award at last year's Emmys, but this year the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category was all about Jon Stewart, who accepted his last Variety Emmy for "The Daily Show."

The Emmys split the Variety category into Variety Sketch (winner "Inside Amy Schumer") and Variety Talk this year, but the competition was tighter than ever. Who even knows how they picked a winner? Besides "The Daily Show," the nominees included multiple shows with legendary hosts ending their run, e.g. "The Colbert Report" and "Late Show with David Letterman." And the other noms included "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," "Last Week Tonight" and "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," aka the shows that are constantly filling up all of our Facebook news feeds.

Stewart gave a heartfelt speech, saying he'd never work with a better group of people than he did at Comedy Central. Congrats to everyone at "The Daily Show," and thanks, Jon Stewart, for giving us one final Moment of Zen.

Andy Samberg Impaled Jerry From 'Parks And Recreation' With An Emmy

Poor Jerry/Garry/Larry/Terry! The oft-ridiculed "Parks and Recreation" character was stabbed in the chest with an Emmy statuette during a taped bit at Sunday's awards, because some people never can win.

Andy Samberg parodied the "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" commercial that capped off the final season of "Mad Men." The host assumed the part of Don Draper, receiving "om"-worthy inspiration atop a sunny hill. But instead of creating one of history's most famous television advertisements, Samberg chunked an Emmy and punctured Jim O'Her in the chest. At least we're accustomed to seeing TV gore circa 9:30 p.m. on a Sunday -- thanks, "Game of Thrones."

Natasha Lyonne And Fred Armisen Walked The Emmys Red Carpet Together

Natasha Lyonne and Fred Armisen attended the Emmy Awards on Sunday night looking like a couple of kids in love.

The actors arrived on the red carpet together, seemingly putting all the relationship rumors they've sparked over the years to rest. If this isn't confirmation of their status, we don't know what is. Just look at them having a ball.

One question, though: Why is Fred wearing a Freddy Krueger glove?

Though Natasha wasn't nominated for an award this year, "Orange Is the New Black," the Netflix series on which she appears, was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. Armisen's "Portlandia" was also nominated this year, for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series and Outstanding Production Design for Variety

The Emmys Just Spoiled A Ton Of Shows For Everyone Watching

The 2015 Emmys had a video presentation of all the popular shows that ended this year.

This video presentation made the insane decision to show the final scenes of many of these shows, including "Mad Men," "Glee," "The Newsroom," "Nurse Jackie," "Boardwalk Empire," "Sons of Anarchy" and "Justified."

Watch the video and you'll know which main characters die at the end.

When the Emmys returned from commercial, Andy Samberg stood next to "Game of Thrones" writer George R.R. Martin and made a joke about the Emmys spoiling that every character on television dies.

The next season of "GoT" is sure to be a bloodbath.

Jon Hamm won the Emmy for Outstanding Acting in a Drama Series Sunday night for his role in "Mad Men."

This is the first Emmy win for Hamm, who was previously nominated 7 times for his work as Don Draper.

"There has been a terrible mistake, clearly." Hamm said in his acceptance speech. "This is impossible, to be named with all of these extraordinary gentleman. It's impossible to be standing up here."

"Mad Men" ended its groundbreaking run this past May.

Other nominees in the category included Bob Odenkirk for “Better Call Saul," Kyle Chandler for "Bloodline," Kevin Spacey for "House of Cards," Jeff Daniels for "The Newsroom," and Liev Schreiber for "Ray Donovan."

Viola Davis Makes History, Moves The Damn Line For Women of Color

Viola Davis won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her lead role as Annalise Keating on "How to Get Away with Murder" at the 67th annual ceremony Sunday night.

"In my dreams, I see a line," she said, quoting Harriet Tubman. "Over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can't seem to get there no how, I can seem to get over that line."

"The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity," Davis continued, calling out to Taraji P. Henson and Kerry Washington, who were tearing up in the audience. "You can not win an Emmy for roles that simply are not there."

In addition to Henson, Davis beat out white women Robin Wright ("House of Cards"), Elisabeth Moss ("Mad Men"), Claire Danes ("Homeland") and  Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black") for the award.

Here are a bunch of amazing WOC rolling around in her win on Twitter:

John Oliver Basically Auditioned To Host The Emmys At The Emmys

Ladies and gentlemen, your new host ...

John Oliver presented the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or a Dramatic Special on Sunday night, which doesn't sound too exciting until you actually watch it.

Oliver basically used his time to call out "Jeopardy" and Alex Trebek. (As if the recent Turd Ferguson incident wasn't enough.) The "Last Week Tonight" host explained how every series is a limited series, except for "Jeopardy":

The sun could burn out, humanity could flee to another galaxy, time as we know it could cease to exist but Alex Trebek will still be there scolding librarians from Ames, Iowa, to answer in the form of a question and passive aggressively insulting their hobbies.

What is ... the biggest burn of the night?

'Veep' Wins Outstanding Comedy Series At The 2015 Emmys

"Veep" nabbed Outstanding Comedy Series at Sunday's Emmys, breaking the five-time "Modern Family" winning streak. The celebrated HBO series won for its fourth season. Had "Modern Family" prevailed, it would have topped the record it shares with "Frasier" as the category's most-honored show.

"Veep" also bested "Louie," "Parks and Recreation," "Silicon Valley," "Transparent" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt." The political comedy won several other awards throughout the night, including repeat victories for Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Lead Actress in a Comedy Series) and Tony Hale (Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series). Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche also won Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the episode "Election Night."

'Game Of Thrones' Won Outstanding Drama Series And Made Emmys History

"Game of Thrones" won Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmy Awards on Sunday night and made Emmys history. While the HBO series has been nominated for the top prize every year, tonight marks its first win in the category.

Tracy Morgan made an emotional surprise appearance at the show and presented the award to co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with George R.R. Martin and the cast. The creators accepted the award for Season 5 and thanked HBO for "believing in dragons."

"Game of Thrones" bested "Mad Men," "Orange Is the New Black," "House of Cards," "Homeland" and "Better Call Saul" for the award.

The HBO show broke records by winning 12 total Emmys at the 67th annual awards and the Creative Arts Emmys combined, becoming the series with the most wins in a single year. The series previously swept the Creative Arts Emmys with eight wins, and earlier in the night Peter Dinklage won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama, David Nutter won for Outstanding Directing for a Drama and Weiss and Benioff won for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

That brings the full total wins for "Game of Thrones" to 26, tying it with other record holders "Hill Street Blues" and "The West Wing."

Naomi Campbell Shows The Emmys Red Carpet How It's Done

Naomi Campbell can do no wrong, whether she's completely topless or, hitting the red carpet at the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in a white, backless, form-fitting gown.

The "Empire" star attended her first-ever Emmys Sunday night with designer and friend Zac Posen on her arm. Pairing the look with a stack of diamond bangles, bold lip and a fringed, layered hairdo, she truly stole the show.

Campbell shared a few snaps from the night to Instagram, where she posed with "Boardwalk Empire" star Michael K. Williams and Posen, who also shared a photo of the dress' revealing back.

A photo posted by @zac_posen on

"Empire" may not have taken home any awards during the ceremony, but we're calling this night a big win for Campbell, anyway.

The Stars Get Loose At Emmys After-Parties

The Emmy Awards were fun and all, but the after-parties looked like a real blast.

Networks like HBO, Comedy Central and Fox each had parties for stars to attend after the main event at the Microsoft Theater. Taraji P. Henson, Lady Gaga, Sara Hyland and Amy Schumer attended Fox's bash, while the "Game of Thrones" cast, Frances McDormand and Julianne Hough hit up HBO's.

Henson and Gaga shared some tequila shots at Vibiana, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The stars of "Veep" showed off their moves at the Pacific Design Center, dancing to Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody."

See what else the stars were up to after the Emmys were over.

7 Ways I'm Exactly Like Olivia Pope

0
0
I'm not gonna lie. I've been missing my girl Liv this summer (yeah, we're on a nickname basis.) At first I thought it was kind of strange. Like maybe I just needed to escape my suburban slump and imagine a more adventurous life in her twisted world. But one day, it came to me. We're simply kindred spirits. We get each other, and have a surprising number of things in common (though admittedly my wardrobe leans toward slimming black, not her signature stunning white.)

I know, this is where you're saying, "Oh! I get it. She means Kerry Washington." And I understand why you'd think that. Really, I do. You likely saw the teaser with her photo on the cover of the September issue of Self and thought of me when you read, "Body, Baby, Kickass Career: 'It's Handled,'" but that's not what I'm talking about here. Because, well...obviously.

No, I mean Liv. (Olivia to you casual viewers.) Here's why.

I have two guys vying for my attention -- day in and day out.

Both want to cozy up with me on the couch. (Or at the very least they want me to bring them their blankets without blocking the TV.) Both want me to weigh in on the world-shaping decisions they're forced to make on a daily basis. (Is it going to be too hot for knee-high socks today?!) Each wants me to forsake the other and choose him. (I mean I can't possibly be at a baseball game and soccer game at the same time... or can I?) One wows me with his brains, the other with his brawn. And I just can't quit either of them. (Legally, it seems.)

I know my loved ones have done bad things, but they're my people, and I'll do anything to protect my people.

There's a good reason for this, you see. I figure all that loyalty I've shown is bound to come in handy some day. Like when I chaperone a high school dance, or become the mother-in-law.

I fix things. It's what I do.

This week it was a Frozen charm necklace. Last week it was a plastic field goal. And, who knows, maybe next week I'll even take on something from the drawer where toys go to die. Let's just say I'm a woman with a number of different kinds of glue sporting magical taglines, and I'm not afraid to use them. (The glues, not the taglines. But I really am a sucker for a good tagline. Who isn't, right?)

I clean up other people's messes.

Constantly. It's like I'm drawn to people who just can't help themselves. And I can't help myself either. While you may call me an enabler (or a poor judge of character because, let's face it, like Liv, I'm surrounded by people who get themselves in deep), the truth is, I have a gift. Who am I to deny it?

I'm a gladiator.

It's no small task making a blow-up sword that's being used to torment a little sister disappear. And I'll never, ever tell my secret. (Unless you figure out the code to my super-duper secure safe where I keep stuff like that. Before trash pickup this week, that is.)

I wear the white hat.

Breakfast! Lunch! Dinner! And, of course, a plethora of healthy snacks in between. I may not always do it with finesse, but they keep calling me the family chef anyway. (That is when I don't go Liv-style and order takeout for every. darn. meal.)

When I dance around the living room with an admirably hefty glass of red wine in hand, it often results in a doozy of a stain on the couch.

'Nuff said.

I guess what I'm saying is, let's do a girl's night, Liv. How's Thursday? I don't care if we're standing in the sun or frolicking in Vermont. Either way, I'm all in. Because this mama? She's ready for a scandal that doesn't involve cereal up someone's nose or a late fee at the library.

Amy Heinz is a San Francisco Bay Area mom of three and the writer behind Using Our Words -- a parenting blog filled with lessons she's learned (usually the hard way), laughs she's enjoyed (mostly at her own expense), and tears she's shed (this mama's got heart).

You can also find her on Facebook.

Here's Where The 2016 Oscar Race Stands After Fall's Big Festivals

0
0

Oscar season has begun, if you subscribe to the adage that the September film festivals -- Telluride, Venice and Toronto -- are what shift the movie calendar from gargantuan summer blockbusters to gargantuan awards caliber. The race is young, but critics' reactions to fall releases can make or break their Oscar buzz. With the Toronto Film Festival having come to a close on Sunday, we have a mildly clearer picture of what the nominations could look like come January, even if many pundits agree a durable front-runner hasn't yet emerged.

BEST PICTURE

"Spotlight," Tom McCarthy's admirable portrait of the Boston Globe's 2001 investigation into local Catholic priests' child sex abuse, won favorable reception at Telluride and Venice, but it exploded at Toronto, where some dubbed it the new Best Picture front-runner. Boasting both social resonance and the sort of traditional storytelling that has a toehold with the Academy, think of "Spotlight" as a contemporary "All the President's Men," which earned a nod in 1977.

The other festival fortress appears to be the moving transgender drama "The Danish Girl," buoyed by Tom Hooper's recent Academy endorsements, "The King's Speech" and "Les Misérables." Its timely subject matter lends "Girl" added gravitas, and the movie is shot in the lush period-piece stylings that appeal to awards groups. The other big Toronto hits -- "The Martian," "Truth," "Beasts of No Nation," People's Choice Award winner "Room" and Sundance holdover "Brooklyn" -- will face a tougher battle, largely because they must contend with still-unseen titles from Steven Spielberg ("Bridge of Spies"), Quentin Tarantino ("The Hateful Eight"), David O. Russell ("Joy") and Alejandro González Iñárritu ("The Revenant"). I expect most of the festivals' iffier gambles will succumb to rapturous Cannes favorite "Carol" and Danny Boyle's new Steve Jobs biopic, which Telluride critics called "electric" and "sophisticated."

Predictions: "Carol," "The Danish Girl," "The Hateful Eight," "Inside Out," "Joy," "The Revenant," "Room," "Spotlight," "Steve Jobs"

BEST ACTRESS

Could this race be Cate Blanchett vs. Cate Blanchett? She won for "Blue Jasmine" just two years ago, but she's destined to pick up a nomination for either "Carol" or "Truth," where she stands out as the stately CBS producer who spearheaded the chided "60 Minutes" report that led to Dan Rather's downfall. As it turns out, the last actor to earn two noms in the same year was, in fact, Cate Blanchett, who was up for "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and "I'm Not There" in 2007. No one has ever accomplished that feat in the same category, though, so we can probably toss out the "Truth" recognition in favor of Brie Larson, who is stunning as a young mother held captive in "Room."

There were additional Toronto rumblings about Maggie Smith's performance in "The Lady in the Van" (a role she originated onstage in London), while Charlotte Rampling strolled through glowing "45 Years" reactions with her Berlin Film Festival actress award and Saoirse Ronan still toted Oscar buzz from Sundance as an Irish immigrant in the coming-of-age drama "Brooklyn." The weepy "Beaches" update "Miss You Already" won't be high on the Academy's radar, but Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore are at least worth a look. A huge determiner in the race will be whether Focus Features stumps for Alicia Vikander's exceptional "Danish Girl" performance as lead or supporting. It should be lead, as the story is just as much hers as it is Eddie Redmayne's -- but the studio might see an easier portal within the (slightly) less-crowded supporting field. At this point, it looks like 2016's Best Actress derby could be as congested as Best Actor was in 2015. I haven't even mentioned Lily Tomlin in "Grandma" or Charlize Theron in "Mad Max: Fury Road."

Predictions: Cate Blanchett, "Carol" / Brie Larson, "Room" / Jennifer Lawrence, "Joy" Charlotte Rampling, "45 Years" / Saoirse Ronan, "Brooklyn"

BEST ACTOR

Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor this year for his physically daunting turn as Stephen Hawking. Oscar statistics indicate the Academy favors older actors, so I'm dubious the 33-year-old Redmayne can pull off another victory, despite his elegant work portraying the first person to undergo gender-confirmation surgery. Matt Damon carries a lot of "The Martian" on his stranded shoulders, but the movie's populist sci-fi may be too broad to go to bat against Michael Caine in the old-age meditation "Youth" and Johnny Depp's terrifying Whitey Bulger stint in the otherwise messy "Black Mass." If you're of the mind that children should earn Oscar nominations, pay attention to Jacob Tremblay, the 8-year-old actor charged with experiencing the world for the first time in "Room." And if Variety is correct in reporting that Mark Ruffalo's "Spotlight" role will be campaigned as a lead, he might make the shortlist too. (I retract my earlier statement -- it looks like the Best Actor contest is just as crowded this time.)

But plenty of gentlemen fizzled out at Toronto, namely Tom Hiddleston in the flaccid Hank Williams biopic "I Saw the Light" and Tom Hardy playing gangster twins in the cartoonish "Legend." Bryan Cranston's "Trumbo" turn, on the other hand, sits somewhere in between -- he effectively channels haughty Old Hollywood as blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, but the film is something of a missed opportunity, even for a voting body that adores movies about itself. I'd keep your money on Michael Fassbender's Steve Jobs portrayal for now, but don't discount Tom Hanks' latest Spielberg collaboration, "Bridge of Spies," which has yet to screen for critics.

Predictions: Johnny Depp, "Black Mass" / Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Revenant" / Michael Fassbender, "Steve Jobs" / Tom Hanks, "Bridge of Spies" / Eddie Redmayne, "The Danish Girl"

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Rooney Mara won Cannes' actress prize for "Carol," so everyone else in contention is swimming in her waters. From the festival scene, Vikander is probably her biggest threat, if she goes supporting. Jane Fonda has a memorable role in "Youth," but it may be too brief to hit the Academy's register. Ellen Page plays second fiddle to Julianne Moore in the gay-rights drama "Freeheld," but the movie is too flat for either performance to make a dent. Keep an eye out for several undercard players, though: Julie Walters is a hilarious highlight of "Brooklyn," Rachel McAdams has the only female role in "Spotlight," Rachel Weisz is touching in "Youth," Helen Mirren is devilishly campy as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper in "Trumbo" and Jessica Chastain grounds "The Martian" as the commander of its central mission. Tough break for Elle Fanning, however, whose trans drama "About Ray" has suffered dicey critics and the politics of Harvey Weinstein. (Julianne Moore deserves brownie points for playing a Danish academic diva in the Baumbach-esque comedy "Maggie's Plan," but it doesn't have a distribution deal yet.)  If I had my way, there would be room for Kristen Stewart ("Clouds of Sils Maria"), Elizabeth Banks ("Love & Mercy") and/or Kristen Wiig ("The Diary of a Teenage Girl") too. At least Kate Winslet can count on "Steve Jobs" kudos, which will hopefully give her reason to forget the atrocity that is "The Dressmaker."

Predictions: Jennifer Jason Leigh, "The Hateful Eight" / Rooney Mara, "Carol" / Alicia Vikander, "The Danish Girl" / Julie Walters, "Brooklyn" / Kate Winslet, "Steve Jobs"

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

If there's any festival performance that should headline the supporting-actor conversation right now, it's Joel Edgerton, who showcases the perfect dose of warmth in his sleazy "Black Mass" FBI informant. Toronto critics extolled him, but Edgerton may suffer from serving as benchwarmer to a much showier Johnny Depp. Idris Elba could keep us from seeing another #OscarsSoWhite year with "Beasts of No Nation," where he plays a tyrannical West African warlord. But the movie's Netflix platform makes its impact unpredictable, and his young co-star, Abraham Attah, commands a lot of the project's plaudits. It's Michael Keaton, then, who seem the likeliest festival darling to carry his buzz all the way to January. Keaton's "Spotlight" outing rises above the film's ensemble, giving the actor a chance to claim a trophy after losing for "Birdman" this year. I'm also here to say that a supporting bid for Paul Dano's top-notch work in the Brian Wilson biopic "Love & Mercy" is category fraud, but I'll accept it if it means he gets the nomination. That's a tough one considering the movie premiered at Toronto in 2014. You're probably likelier to hear the words "Oscar nominee Seth Rogen" in a few months, thanks to "Steve Jobs."

Predictions: Idris Elba, "Beasts of No Nation" / Tom Hardy, "The Revenant" / Samuel L. Jackson, "The Hateful Eight" / Michael Keaton, "Spotlight" / Mark Rylance, "Bridge of Spies"

Tracy Morgan's Daughter Was Too Cute For Words At The Emmys

Tracy Morgan made a surprise appearance at the 2015 Emmy Awards on Sunday night where he introduced the award for Outstanding Drama Series with a few funny and emotional words.

The comedian, who has been recovering from a car crash that left one person dead in June 2014, thanked his his "amazing doctors" and the support of his family and wife, Megan Wollover, for their help in his triumphant return.

Morgan arguably stole the show with his surprise appearance, but backstage it was his adorable 2-year-old daughter, Maven Sonae Morgan, who proved to be the real show stopper.

Morgan and Wallover tied the knot last month after a four-year engagement and welcomed Maven, who is too cute for words, in July 2013.

While the Emmys dominated Twitter on Sunday night, a new topic has been taking over social media Monday morning. If you haven't seen #Piggate or #Hameron trending on Twitter, let us fill you in.

On Monday morning the Daily Mail's front page featured allegations against U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron. According to a new unauthorized biography by Lord Ashcroft, Cameron allegedly put "a private part of his anatomy" into a dead pig's mouth when in college. This claim of course immediately made waves across the Internet as #Piggate and #Hameron started trending. But TV fans also drew connections between the allegations and Charlie Brooker's dystopian sci-fi series "Black Mirror."

In the first episode of the series, "National Anthem," a princess is kidnapped. The seemingly only way to get her back safely is for the PM to have sex with a pig on live TV (that's "Black Mirror" for ya). Brooker caught on to the similarities as well on Twitter.

But the series creator wanted to assure everyone that the show wasn't based on any known information about Cameron.

Like the rest of us though, Brooker hopes this doesn't mean the rest of his crazy fictional episodes will happen as well.
