Taylor Swift's Girl Squad May Not Be As Feminist As You Think

Heidi Klum struts down a runway and for a moment the stretch appears to ominously resemble a gang plank. At the end of Klum’s long walk waits a tall, thin woman with gleaming white teeth, giddily anticipating a grabby, waist-level embrace between them.

Blake Shelton Responds To Twitter Critics, Saying 'Not One S--t Is Given'

0
0

Less than a week after announcing his divorce from fellow country star Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton is engaging his critics directly -- and letting them know that he couldn't care less about what they think.

In response to one fan's statement that she was "losing respect because of this whole charade," Shelton said she could "rest assured not one s--t is given."

Shelton and Lambert traded several light-hearted tweets on Friday, supporting mutual friend Ashley Monroe's new album and even poking fun at one another. When another Twitter user accused the ex-couple of having pre-scheduled their online conversations before their split, Shelton responded with a resounding "nope."

Lambert, for her part, joked about Shelton having had a baby -- possibly a tongue-in-cheek response to tabloid speculation that the two are expecting a child.

‘Empire’ Star Derek Luke Slams Followers For Criticizing Wife's Race

0
0

Actor Derek Luke's online followers became concerned with the race of his wife recently, and he's not having it.

Luke, 41, addressed the issue via Instagram after he noticed some comments on one of his social media accounts concerned with the fact that his wife is not Black. He has been married to actress Sophia Adella Luke (born Hernandez) for 17 years, and he put critics in their place with a lengthy caption on a picture of him and his wife.

Luke said in the post that who he marries is no one's business and multi-racial marriages should not be a “problem” in this day and age. His Instagram response was posted last week but caught major outlets’ attention on Wednesday.

The actor also corrected commenters who attempted to guess his wife's race. Luke wrote: "She's not white, she's not black, she's not Chinese, she's Hispanic."

In his response, Luke may have confused Hispanic to be a race as opposed to an ethnicity, but he certainly drives home the point that you can’t judge a person’s background based on physical appearances alone.

Luke stars as Malcolm Deveaux in "Empire" on the FOX hip-hop drama. He is also known for his role in Denzel Washington’s directorial debut “Antwone Fisher” in 2002.

"My wife may not be Black but she is mine," Luke wrote towards the end of his post. "And she's mine with a heart of gold."

Chuck Schumer Celebrates Jon Stewart's Best Jewish Moments On 'The Daily Show'

0
0

Before Jon Stewart became the renowned host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," he was Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, a Jewish kid from New Jersey.

And he hasn't forgotten his roots.

On Thursday, Stewart took a look back at some of the moments in "Daily Show" history when he'd celebrated his Jewish heritage.

The segment, called "Let His People Laugh," was introduced by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). Stewart had taken the senator to task earlier this week about an interview with MSNBC that was held in a diner, where Schumer seemed much more interested in talking about the food than the Iran nuclear deal.

What else was supposed to happen, Stewart asked, when you take "an old New York Jewish man to a diner?"

Over the years, Stewart has both criticized and paid tribute to Jewish culture. Earlier this year, The Forward commended the comedian for all the times he'd "honored, teased, and stood up for our people."

Aug. 6 will be Stewart's last day on the show.

"You took one day's worth of schtick and kept it going for 16 years," Schumer joked on Thursday's episode. “Now would you show up at synagogue every once in a while? We miss you!"

5 Things You Didn't Know About 'Friends'

0
0

Matt LeBlanc is turning 48 today, July 25. Here are five things about Joey Tribbiani and the rest of the cast of "Friends," which you might not already know.*

1. The frame around the peephole was originally supposed to have a picture, but the glass was accidentally broken.

183118188

Original set decorator for the show, Greg Grande, told The Huffington Post that he bought the frame from the Rose Bowl Swap Meet and initially dressed it into the set as a normal picture holder that sat on a table.

"I originally had it as a picture frame that had a back on it," he said. "And while we were dressing the glass in it broke and I told one of the guys, 'Well let's see what that frame looks like around the peephole.' And they put it up there for me and that's where it lived for the next 10 years. It actually was as simple as that. Kind of a funny mistake."

The idea might have come from the show's art director (or today's equivalent, production designer) John Shaffner pushing for Grande to do something special with the door. Shaffner really doesn't like when doors in sitcoms are lackluster. "It's one of my pet peeves," he told HuffPost, "especially in sitcoms in New York, what's on the back on the door."

So before the break of the frame, Shaffner had been telling Grande, "Come on, Greg, what are we going to do with the back of the door? What are we going to do with the back of the door?" Then Grande had the broken frame and figured he might as well try it out.

2. Jennifer Aniston and other cast members were scared of LeBlanc before meeting him, just based on reading his character's forward personality.

143479414

According to a 1995 article in People, writer Craig Tomashoff explained how LeBlanc was perceived before he'd even met the cast:

Some cast members were also nervous about LeBlanc, 27, who hails from Newton, Mass. (his father is a mechanic and his mother makes circuit boards), and whose résumé includes a stint looking studly as a Levi's model. "I was scared of that type of guy," says Aniston, who assumed he'd be muy macho. "He thinks it's very funny now. And actually, he can sit down and comfort me just like Courteney or Lisa could."

Certainly, having someone constantly hit on you by asking, "How you doin'?" can get annoying. Fortunately, LeBlanc was more of a "How are you doing?" person in real life.

3. Rumor had it that the actors signed an agreement not to sleep with each other.

In 1997, Elle brought up in their story about Courteney Cox "a recent rumor which had all the actors signing some kind of agreement that they wouldn't sleep together."

When asked about this, Cox laughed, saying: "Ha ha, there's no pact, there's never been a pact."

4. Although, Lisa Kudrow once joked that the cast only became close after they all slept together.

friends matthew perry

In a 1996 Us Weekly cover story, Aniston, Kudrow and Cox were asked what would happen if the male cast saw them naked.

Cox said, "They wouldn't care," while Aniston joked they'd care almost too much and run to the "their little rooms and go, 'Oh. My. God.'"

Following up, Cox said that they'd all become like brothers and sisters, to which Kudrow joked, "You mean after we all stopped sleeping with each other?"

5. Vince Vaughn auditioned to be Joey.

matt leblanc

Both original casting director Ellie Kanner and her former assistant had written down that Vaughn had auditioned for the role of Joey in their notes. When speaking with HuffPost, Kanner remembered him as "handsome and tall" and a "good actor," but that he just didn't fit the way LeBlanc ended up fitting.

Vaughn had yet to have a breakthrough role when he auditioned for the part of Joey and was still an up-and-coming actor. "That would have been a little different," Kanner joked.

"It's just a matter of putting the pieces of the puzzle together," she added.

BONUS: The famous "mistake" in the establishing shot actually has an explanation.

143479921

The establishing shot for Monica and Joey's apartments is often labeled as a mistake: There is a fire escape where there shouldn't be, there's no balcony. Art director John Shaffner had the same exact reservations.

Initially, the request was for a special window in Monica's apartment that gave it a kind of identification, hence the big multi-paned window in the show. Shaffner wanted the exterior shot to match so, "I went to New York and came back with an armful of pictures of the tops of the sixth-floor buildings with windows like that," he told HuffPost.

When the show used something else entirely, Shaffner wanted an explanation.

"They got an establishing shot with arched windows and I'm like, 'Well, we don't have any arched windows in the set,'" Shaffner recalled. "So that was always, to me, kind of like 'Where are these windows?' So they said, 'Don't worry, we're just showing the building. Their apartment is on the other side, don't worry.'"

So, the establishing shot is supposed to be showing the other side of the building. Perhaps unorthodox, but at least it clears up that supposed error?

Scott Disick Speaks Out About Split With Kourtney Kardashian

Scott Disick finally spoke out about his recent split with longtime girlfriend Kourtney Kardashian while hosting a nightclub event in Las Vegas on Friday night.

"[I'm] just taking it one day at a time," he told Us Weekly on the red carpet. "With everything going on right now, I need to be positive for myself."

Disick and Kardashian split earlier this month after nine years of dating. Together they have three children: Mason, 5, Penelope, 3 and Reign, 7 months.

While Disick was busy playing host at 1Oak, Kardashian was clearly having a more low key night at home, watching "Scooby-Doo" with her son.

If that's Kardashian's idea of a perfect Friday night, we can see why these two are probably better off apart.

Kim Kardashian Might Get Twitter To Add An Edit Feature

0
0

Just like us normals, Kim Kardashian gets super annoyed when she has to delete a tweet due to a typo.

She took up the cause in an email to Twitter, and alerted followers to her plan on Friday.

Soon after, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey responded.

To be honest, it seems highly improbable that Twitter hasn't considered this before. They likely have their reasons behind not making the feature available. (Someone substantially changing text of a tweet after it's favorited, RT'd or replied to could create problems, for example.)

But ... good business move to get on the Kardashian side of things! The family is pretty influential on the platform (and the rest of us sometimes make spelling errors, too).

Imagine a world where you'd never have to decide between sacrificing a fave and correcting grammar again.

Following a DUI arrest in June, Stamos checked into rehab for substance abuse. He tweeted on Friday that he was back, healthy and "feeling grateful for the love & support of family & friends."

"Fuller House" will follow an adult DJ Tanner-Fuller as a recently widowed mother, whose sister Stephanie Tanner and best friend Kimmy Gibbler move into her house to help take care of her sons.

7 Reasons To Love Helen Mirren On Her 70th Birthday

0
0

Actress Helen Mirren turns 70 on Sunday, July 26. Is it possible that she just keeps getting better and better each year? Here are some of the reasons we love her.

1. She clearly isn't above having fun or being silly.

2. She's a Triple Crown winner.

Mirren has won all three of acting's top awards. She won an Academy Award in 2007 for her role as Elizabeth II in "The Queen," a Tony this year for "The Audience," and several Emmys for her TV portrayal of Detective Jane Tennison on "Prime Suspect."

3. She's a Triple Crown winner at an age when many other horses get put out to pasture.

Mirren is entertainment's version of the watch that keeps on ticking. Despite the scarcity of roles for older actors, Mirren continues to be a top box-office draw. Perhaps it's because she is comfortable in her own skin and isn't afraid to put herself out there. And of course she has that regal thing going for her.

4. She's known as the "sex queen of Stratford."

She went from being a young hottie to an older hottie. With class, dignity and a beauty that comes from within, Mirren is a textbook case of how to age gracefully. The nickname "sex queen of Stratford" came from her days at the Royal Shakespeare Company and is an acknowledgement of her willingness to strip when the role called for it.

 5. She's not on Twitter or Facebook, and boasts about it.

You want to know what this Grand Dame is up to? Then you'll just have to go to her official fan page. How retro, right?

6.  She once lived with Liam Neeson, an item on many a bucket list.

Mirren lived with actor Liam Neeson during the early 1980s. They had met while working on the set of "Excalibur." When he was interviewed for Inside the Actors Studio, Neeson credited her for helping him get an agent.

7. She is the epitome of cool under pressure.

Kanye West's 'All Day/I Feel Like That' Video Leaked Online Before U.S. Premiere

Kanye West is premiering his new video in the U.S., but you can already watch it "all day."

The 9-minute video for "All Day/I Feel Like That" from West and director Steve McQueen ("12 Years A Slave") is making its debut for U.S. audiences during a four-day event at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, from July 25-28, but a low-quality, slightly shorter version hit the Internet weeks before.

West's video was reportedly shot in one take, and, according to LACMA, "straddles the mainstream and the avant-garde while challenging preconceptions on both fronts," which is basically just fancy-schmancy talk for Kanye running around a warehouse for a while and then sitting down. (You might as well throw your preconceptions out the window now, people!)

At a LACMA event on Friday where West and McQueen previewed the video, West said a misconception about him is that he promotes negativity. "No, it’s the promotion of truth as pavement to put the home on," he said, "to put the basketball court on, to build the city hall. Let’s start with truth, and let’s build a community upon it.”

And let's start that community with a warehouse. Preach, Kanye.

Jennifer Lopez Proves Age Is Just A Number In Sexy Black Dress

All hail Jennifer Lopez, queen of the bodycon dress.

The singer celebrated her 46th birthday on Friday night, and, of course, chose an eye-popping ensemble for the occasion.

Dressed in a skin-tight little black dress, the "American Idol" judge looked amazing as ever. The frock featured a very low neckline; cutouts along the shoulders, chest and stomach; and large sheer panels that left little to the imagination.

The "Booty" singer accessorized with a plain black clutch, layered bangles and a pair of simple, two-strap heels.

Lopez kept her newly cropped locks down and tousled to perfection. She was also sporting her signature smoky-eyed look, complete with a bronzed complexion and nude lips.

The star spent her night partying at 1Oak in Southampton, N.Y., with friends, including rapper French Montana -- who posted a photo of himself, Lopez, Fat Joe and Thalia on his Instagram page -- and Casper Smart.
