In Tokyo, in 1964, the 31-year-old conceptual artist Yoko Ono organized a happening in which she screened a Hollywood film and gave the audience a simple instruction: Do not look at Rock Hudson, look only at Doris Day.

What Tabloid Headlines Would Look Like Without The Sexism

Magazine tabloids tend to treat women like zoo animals instead of people.

Created by college students Erin Valentine and Ashley McGetrick, a new project called "Breaking News: Deconstructing Entertainment Journalism" highlights the rampant sexism in entertainment media by revealing what headlines would look like if tabloids treated female celebrities like real people.

The two seniors at Elon University created the project for their capstone course on women and gender in the media.

"By translating these headlines to be more feminist-friendly, we hoped to call out sexist and unequal cultural influences, especially of celebrities, in the media," Valentine told The Huffington Post. "Sensationalized tabloid media preys on the female body and an idealized version of 'womanhood.'"

Headlines involving female celebrities are notorious for objectifying women, Valentine said. From shaming women who go makeup-free to criticizing women for wearing gym clothes, tabloids subject women to a lot of sexism that men rarely experience.

"Whether in line at the grocery store, scrolling through Facebook or flipping through television channels, it is hard to miss headlines worshiping, critiquing or questioning the physiques and lifestyles of female public figures," Valentine said. "While seemingly harmless, these hyped up headlines attack more than just the people pictured."

It's not only the headlines that are implicitly sexist, but the stories written about these female celebrities. Instead of writing about how hard-working Blake Lively is when she attends dozens of events in one day, stories are written about how many outfits she wore.

Valentine noted that consumers do have an impact on these headlines. "They should also acknowledge that they have the power to push back as viewers and as the audience to encourage more feminist-friendly entertainment journalism," she said.

Check out some of Valentine's and McGetrick's feminist-friendly headlines below.

Zig-a-zig-ah! Ginger Spice just got married. The former pop star tied the knot with Formula1 racing team boss Christian Horner at Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire, England on Friday.

She wore a Phillipa Lepley gown, and was accompanied by her daughter, Bluebell Madonna. Because friendship really is forever, Baby Spice's (aka Emma Bunton) sons Tate and Beau acted as page boys.

Other Spice Girls Victoria Beckham and Melanie Brown were not in attendance, but they tweeted well wishes (and one A-plus vintage photo).

Oh, Madonna. You never cease to amaze us with your honesty, resilience and ever-changing look.

Our favorite "Material Girl" debuted some brand new fuchsia ombré on Instagram Thursday, proving that she is as on trend as ever. She and Daniel Moon, the colorist who gave her the new look, posted matching photos. Madonna's reads: "Rise and Shine NY!!!#bitchimmadonna" Because of course.

Madge appears to have taken a cue from Kaley Cuoco, who dyed her hair a lighter shade of pink last month. There's no confirmation whether Madonna's hair is actually dyed, or if it's a more temporary chalk/extension/wig situation. But either way, based on over 90,000 likes from her Instagram followers, we'd say the choice to go pink was a good one.

What do you think of her new 'do? Sound off below!

Raven-Symoné Suggests Rosa Parks, Instead Of Harriet Tubman, Should Be On The $20 Bill

Raven-Symoné has joined the growing list of people condemning the proposed idea of Harriet Tubman potentially replacing President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill.

During Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” the 29-year-old, who served as a guest co-host, disagreed with having the iconic freedom fighter as the first woman placed on an American bill.

"No offense to everyone who’s going to be mad at me for saying this, I don't like that idea. I think we need to move a little bit forward,” she said.

“Let me just preface that I understand the history, I get it, trust me, I was taught, I'm in that culture. But there was also Wilma Mankiller, there's also Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Harriet Tubman."

Raven continued her statement by explaining why she would have chosen "someone closer to the progression that we're doing now." She suggested Rosa Parks.

"I know you have to understand history so that you don't repeat it, but that doesn't really happen in our world, because we still repeat history of hating other cultures over and over again," she said. "So I would choose a different one, no offense."

Queen Latifah Opens Up About Those Lesbian Love Scenes In 'Bessie'

On-screen love scenes, gay or straight, should not be a matter of controversy, according to Queen Latifah.

Latifah spoke with BET about a same-sex kiss in the upcoming HBO biopic, "Bessie," in which she stars as legendary blues singer, Bessie Smith, who was bisexual.

“You know, people feel a type of way when they see any sexuality on-screen, to me, and I think it's almost human nature," she said. "People are so fascinated by it. There shouldn’t even be a discussion, but it is because people are still curious and people still wonder how they feel about things. At the end of the day, I don’t really care if someone feels uncomfortable about it. It is what it is, and it’s life. So you either deal with it or not, you know? That's your choice. It’s just part of who she is. I had to tell the story honestly."

Latifah, who bares it all in "Bessie," added that she hopes viewers don't focus only on Smith's romantic interests.

"I hope that it doesn't become the sole issue because it's really not just, you know, one thing about Bessie. There's so many parts of who she was. [Her sexuality] was just part of it," Latifah said.

In the April/May 2015 issue of Uptown magazine, the actress, who has faced rumors over her own sexuality, said she thinks that "people’s ideas in general are antiquated when it comes to who you love" and that society has not progressed quickly enough.

"Modern Family" star Ariel Winter is officially emancipated.

The actress, who plays Alex Dunphy in the series, took to Twitter on Friday to announce the news.

The 17-year-old actress has been at the center of a family custody battle between her older sister, Shanelle Gray, and their mother, Chrisoula Workman.

Winter thanked Gray, her father and her fans in the tweet, and said she couldn't wait to embark on "new adventures":

I am now officially emancipated!!! I'm really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity. Most importantly I want to thank @shanelle_gray and my father for their special support regarding this matter, I really couldn't have done it without them. Thank you to all of my family, friends, and fans who have supported me through all of my endeavors in life, and have encouraged me. Thank you for making my life so special! I can't wait to embark on my new adventures. ❤️ xo

The family trouble dates back to late 2012, when Winter was removed from her home following allegations of physical and emotional abuse by her mother. The Department of Children and Family Services later found evidence of the abuse. Last April, Gray was granted permanent guardianship of Winter.

Anna Kendrick Skewers James Corden In A 'Pitch Perfect'-Style Riff-Off

"The Late Late Show" was basically a college a cappella concert Friday night.

Anna Kendrick joined host James Corden in a "Pitch Perfect"-style riff-off to determine who had the best a cappella chops. Along with a cappella group The Filharmonic, the two sang hits including *NSYNC's "Bye, Bye, Bye "and Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battlefield." Kendrick took home the title, but with those ace song choices and Kendrick and Corden's fun dance vibes, isn't everyone a winner? (Not to mention it was an "Into the Woods" reunion.)

Later in the show, Corden sat down with Kendrick and her "Pitch Perfect" co-stars Brittany Snow and Hailee Steinfeld.

Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon are a match made in entertainment heaven.

Latifah stopped by "The Tonight Show" Friday, where she joined Fallon in a performance of Young MC's "Bust a Move." The two used a beatboxing iPad app to lay down their beat, and then full out rapped, sang and busted a move for the audience.

When Latifah appeared on Fallon's "Late Night" back in 2014, she wiped the floor with him during a highly entertaining game of Antler Ring Toss.

Basically whenever Fallon and Latifah get together, we can expect some dream team antics.

Killer Mike Calls Bill O'Reilly 'Full Of S***' On 'Real Time With Bill Maher'

Killer Mike appeared on "Real Time with Bill Maher" Friday night and was very candid about his opinion of Bill O'Reilly.

"I like Bill O'Reilly as a character," the Run the Jewels rapper said, prompting the host to laugh. "I hate how white people take him so seriously," Mike continued. "He’s more full of shit than an outhouse."

The rapper stuck by his belief that O'Reilly puts up a "fictitious" facade. But Maher disagreed slightly, saying that the political commentator's temperament was no act. O'Reilly "may be full of shit," Maher said, "but it's sincere shit."

The two then discussed O'Reilly's claim that rap music is responsible for the decline of religion in America. Mike's response was pure laughter.

In Friday's episode Maher also brought up America's obsession with British accents and discussed the criticism of first lady Michelle Obama's speech at Tuskegee University with panelists Killer Mike, John Waters, Heather McGhee and Charles Murray.

Kendall Jenner And Kourtney Kardashian Have Quite The Height Difference In Hilarious Instagram Photo

There's definitely a family resemblance among the Kardashian and Jenner sisters. But there's one major area where they don't all look alike.

In a new Instagram photo, Kim Kardashian appeared to poke fun at the height difference between Kourtney Kardashian and her sister/supermodel Kendall Jenner.

Both Kardashian and Jenner are clad in only in a white button-down shirt, but Jenner (notably wearing heels) towers over her older sister. The perfect caption for the photo reads simply "Twins."

Kourtney Kardashian also recently ruled Instagram with a very different kind of picture. The star channeled 2001 MTV Video Music Awards-era Britney Spears by posing with a giant yellow snake.

It looks like Kardashian may have been the shorter member of that pair, too.

Comedian Grace Helbig Credits All Her Success To These Three Words

$

Comedian Grace Helbig is a YouTube phenomenon, the star of her own new show on E! and a New York Times bestselling author, but the self-proclaimed "awkward older sister" says she owes all her success to failure.

In a commencement speech she delivered Friday at her alma mater, Ramapo College, Helbig, 29, recalled an epiphany she had while working an unfulfilling office job while dreaming of being a professional comedian.

"Quite honestly I think it is way more terrifying to be boring than to be a failure," she said. "Failures are what make you interesting, and they're what give you perspective and they're what get you millions of views on YouTube."

That mindset, she told the graduates, comes from a mantra she picked up while doing improv in New York after graduating in 2007: "Follow your fear."

"When you're uncomfortable, that's when things get really interesting," she said. "The more I kept doing improv and the more I kept following my fear, the more I realized that being uncomfortable is truly being alive," Helbig added later. "The only thing you can do in this life is pursue your passions, celebrate your bloopers and never stop following your fear."

That philosphy, she explained, led her to one of her most laughable learning experiences.

"I've auditioned for SNL in front of Lorne Michaels wearing a belly chain and doing my best Jersey girl accent. Oh my gawd, can you believe I didn't get cast?" she said, flipping on the accent. "Oh my gawd."
