Giuliana Rancic has been dealt her fair share of setbacks in life, including breast cancer and infertility. But the E! News anchor has remained resilient, citing her unwavering belief in a higher power as her biggest motivation for trucking on.

"Faith," she told HuffPost Live in a Tuesday about what got her through it all. "I think faith is everything."

"When you are told you can't have a child, it's hard as a woman to hear those words," Racic said. "And then hearing you have breast cancer, there's nothing more painful. I look back at that time and the way I got through it was because I realized there was just something that was bigger than me that was gonna get me through it. Little old me could not get me through all that pain."

The Going Off Script author mentioned that she and husband Bill Rancic pray nightly "still to this day."

"It's a very big part of our lives, and it just relieves a lot of the pressure," she said. "It really does."

Bobby Flay And Stephanie March Reportedly Split After 10 Years Of Marriage

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay and actress Stephanie March have called it quits after 10 years of marriage, sources have confirmed to multiple outlets.

"There have been problems for a while, so this was inevitable," a source told People magazine. "There's still a lot of love there and no one makes Stephanie laugh more than Bobby, so this was hard for both of them. They've been living apart for several weeks."

A source told TMZ that things came to a head last year when Flay reportedly didn't come to the hospital until the day after the "Law and Order: SVU" star's appendix burst. The insider claims she was very upset when he said work required him to leave before she could be discharged.

The "Iron Chef" star, 50, and the 40-year-old actress married in February 2005, but reportedly did not celebrate their 10-year anniversary together, according to a source who told Us Weekly that Flay was instead at the the Food & Wine Festival down in Florida.

This is March's first marriage, while Flay was previously married to New York City chef Debra Ponzek from 1991 to 1993, and in 1995 he married a former Food Network co-host Kate Connelly, with whom he has one daughter.

Reps for both Flay and March declined to comment.

Jamie Bell Worked With Andy Serkis To Perfect The Thing In 'Fantastic Four'

Gollum and The Thing are apparently best buds. This according to Jamie Bell, who is set to star as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in the highly anticipated reboot of "Fantastic Four."

Bell opened up about his role during a Wednesday interview with AOL Build, revealing he worked with renowned performance capture actor Andy Serkis, who helped create such characters as Gollum/Smeagol in "The Lord of the Rings," King Kong in the eponymous 2005 film and Caesar in the new "Planet of the Apes" franchise, to nail becoming The Thing.

"Obviously I'm not made of rocks and obviously I'm not 6 foot 8!" Bell, 29, joked during the Q&A. "It's about capturing the essence of a human being inside of that character when he is transformed and you do that through motion capture. It's a technique that my friend Andy Serkis has very much spearheaded -- he is the guru of performance capture. I've been lucky to work with him three or four times actually, so I very much consider him my mentor."

Bell added that although he followed a strict diet and exercise routine while filming, his part in the action movie was more about "puppeteering a character who otherwise wouldn't exist" through motion capture. Still, he definitely took the role very seriously.

"It's a huge responsibility," he said. "I think people were kind of confused when I was cast, but this is very much an origin story of these characters. I haven't seen the film yet," he continued, "I'm very excited to see it, but what I can tell you is just from the making of the film and the journey that we've been on with it, it's very much an experience, it really is. I'm very flattered and humbled to be a part of it."

Empire debuted the first official photo of Bell as The Thing on Thursday, and it looks like he truly embraced the beauty of animation and CGI.

It’s clobberin’ time!

Jimmy Fallon Is Totally Lost During 'Whisper Challenge' With Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has experience with "low talkers" on "Seinfeld," but Jimmy Fallon just took things up a notch.

On Wednesday's "Tonight Show," Louis-Dreyfus and Fallon played "Whisper Challenge," which consists of one person wearing headphones and trying to guess what the other person is saying. The actress had a tough time figuring out the phrases Fallon was whispering. (In her defense, "sausage penis" is totally something people say, right?) However, Fallon wasn't even remotely close to Louis-Dreyfus' last phrase: "Wipe that smile off your face."

Something tells us he probably wouldn't understand that one even if he wasn't wearing headphones.

"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

Mumford & Sons will release their first "rock" album on May 4, but the band debuted its second track, "The Wolf," on Thursday. Paired with a city-scape visualizer similar to the one released with the album's first song, "Believe," it's heavy on guitar, and sounds less like Coldplay, more like Foo Fighters.

What The Heck Happened To Nicole Kidman's 'Grace Of Monaco'?

mid

"Grace of Monaco," starring Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman, is going straight to Lifetime. Yes, Lifetime, as in the channel responsible for such exciting, intelligent films as "The Cheerleader-Murdering Mother" and "Restless Virgins." What happened?

There's a lot of speculation about how this film, once viewed as a potential Oscar nod, came to be brushed under the made-for-TV rug. Writing for Indiewire, Anne Thompson noted tension between The Weinstein Company and director Olivier Dahan over the final cut. Weinstein's comments point to a hostile working relationship characterized by fights and name-calling (all of which may have eventually led him to stop promoting it and pull ad funding).

415mid

There were other signals this film would flop beyond disputes over its cut. The genre seems to be struggling with last year's "Diana," which actually scored one point lower than the abysmal rating "Grace" earned on Rotten Tomatoes (8 and 9 percent, respectively). Both were nearly unanimously panned by critics, which may have signaled too low of a return in taking "Grace" to theaters. "Harvey Weinstein is far less willing these days to throw big marketing dollars into the market when there are no guarantees they will yield a winner," Thompson wrote. Ten or 15 years ago, the simple fact a name like Nicole Kidman was attached to "Grace" would have been enough of a buffer against such a critical reception, at least enough to take the risk at the box office.

You could argue that Kidman's fame has dwindled, that she's made some questionable choices in her career (or that she's just the victim of long-game revenge by Scientologists). Though, imagine it had been preceded by similar genre failures and debuted a decade earlier. Say Weinstein had still battled with the director and it had ended up as "a piece of hagiographic fluff that cobbles together tropes from other recent biopics of famous women," as Jon Frosch described "Grace" in a review for The Atlantic. Coming fresh off an Oscar win, would Kidman's star power have been enough to save "Grace" from a premiere on Lifetime?

These days, even Jennifer "America's Sweetheart" Lawrence doesn't have the pull necessary to promise success. Consider the trajectory of "Serena," which limped into theaters following VOD availability. "If Lawrence’s movie just barely happened, as a theatrical release, and Kidman’s isn't going to," wrote Daniel D'Addario in piece for Time, "what hope is there for anyone else?"

415mid2

Many factors surrounding both "Grace" and "Serena" (namely that they are bad) contributed to demise. Still, there was a time when A-list actors could guarantee big numbers. But the draw has shifted to content, mainly in the form of franchises. Movies are made for a global market primarily built on the surefire sales of remakes, sequels and prequels. (More than half of the top 25 highest-grossing films of 2014 fall into this category).

Will Smith's "Focus" flop back in March provides another example of the diminished weight carried by the movie star name in Hollywood. Smith, once bankable in everything from rom-coms ("Hitch") to superhero movies ("Hancock"), couldn't move a film like "Focus." "More than ever before, the source material is the star attraction," Kyle Buchanan wrote for Vulture at the time. "Actors have become truly secondary to the power of a strong franchise."

To be clear, dear, celebrity-worshipping public, there will always be movies stars. Just a different kind. (Unfortunately for Michael Bay, it's impossible to make a movie propelled solely by computer-generated robots.) What will change, what is changing, is the force those stars used to hold over the theater. The modern movie star can give a film a bump, though their presence doesn't dictate anything, and few are immune to box office failures.

Middlebrow tends to end with a bit about what we can do to foster change, but this one seems to be out of Nicole Kidman's slim and well-manicured hands. So, sit back, relax hand over your soul to Optimus Prime and prepare to someday enjoy the Lifetime special "Cheerleader-Murdering Virgins," starring Meryl Streep.

Airport Security Seized Alyssa Milano's Breast Milk, And She's NOT Happy About It

Alyssa Milano says security officials at London Heathrow Airport seized her breast milk early Thursday morning, and she took the airport to task on Twitter.

"@HeathrowAirport just took my pumped breast milk away. 10 ounces. Gone. Not okay," she wrote.

The airport responded soon after, informing the actress she -- and all other travelers -- is limited by the ban on liquids in excess of 100 ml (3.4 ounces). The rule is flexible for those traveling with a baby:

"They said they would let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me," Milano acknowledged, then asked, rhetorically, "Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????"

"Sorry for any confusion caused," Heathrow responded. "To confirm, if you aren't traveling with your baby, milk is subject to the 100ml/(3.4oz) liquid restriction."

Not pacified, Milano pressed her point:

She closed with a longer statement posted via TwitLonger:
I would have happily spread milk in different containers (which I travel with) to comply to those liquid rules. Instead, milk was taken away with no discussion. Shampoo, lotions, etcetera were simply tested and handed back with no issue. Makes no sense at all.

In the U.S., the Transportation Security Administration considers breast milk among the "medically necessary liquids" that are exempt to the 3.4 ounce rule. Travelers are required to declare excess amounts to TSA agents handling security checks, and the milk is typically screened before being returned.

Milano has long been an advocate for breastfeeding mothers, proudly showing her support via photos on her Instagram feed:

Meet The Kardashians' Armenian Cousins: Kourtni, Kara And Krista

In case you haven't heard, the Kardashians are in the middle of taking Armenia now that they've made the pilgrimage to the country of their ancestry for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 24.

Earlier this week, huge crowds greeted the famous family as they arrived at Zvartnots International Airport in the capital city of Yerevan, and on Thursday, Kim and Khloe met with the country's Prime Minister, Hovik Abrahamyan. It was an (extended) family affair as their cousins, Kourtni and Kara, joined them for the meeting. The cousins also have a sister named Krista, who was unable to join them, and you'll be happy to know the irony of another trio of Kardashian sisters who all have names starting with the letter "K" was not lost on Kim.

On Friday, she shared a photo from the meeting, which she captioned, "Khloe & I brought along our cousins Kourtni & Kara Kardashian. We miss you Krista! Yes we have 3 cousins who are sisters that all start with a K too! LOL."

The trip to Armenia is very important to Kim and Khloe, whose late father Robert Kardashian, was a third-generation Armenian American. In another photo from their meeting with the prime minister, Kim wrote, "It was an honor to meet the Prime Minister of Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan who expressed how proud they are that we are proud Armenians and we have not forgotten our roots! #NeverForget."

Additionally, the trip seems to have brought out Kim's inner feminist. On Thursday she tweeted, "I love how powerful women are and respected so much in our culture!" Later, she posted a photo of herself and Khloe visiting the statue of Mother Armenia and wrote, "This statue reminds visitors of the strong female figures in Armenian history."

The reality star's husband Kanye West and their nearly 2-year-old daughter North are also visiting the country, a fact that has the 34-year-old reality star feeling "blessed."

Jennifer Love Hewitt Is Embracing Pregnancy, And Her Growing Belly

Jennifer Love Hewitt is embracing her changing shape during her second pregnancy.

“I’ve been an actress for 25 years, and have had to be hungry at times for my career, so being pregnant is completely freeing," Hewitt told American Baby for the magazine's new issue. "When I was expecting Autumn, I ate everything I saw! I told myself, ‘Oh there’s a donut –- I should have that.’ Now with this second pregnancy, I know the baby really doesn’t ‘need it.’ So I eat healthy foods in general, but I also indulge in little things that I crave.”

“As somebody who’s been in this business for a long time and had to sort of be all about what your figure looks like, your regimen -– I think if you can let that stuff go and really embrace what you’re doing, you feel kind of awesome," she added.

Hewitt is expecting her second child with husband Brian Hallisay. The two are already parents to daughter Autumn, 16 months. While she joked that being married to her is like "being married to Betty White" right now because she is in bed by 8:15 p.m., the "Criminal Minds" actress understands the importance of relaxation during this time.

“Because so many of us are busy or driven, we forget to take care of ourselves," she said. "But when you’re pregnant, it’s all about you -- and that baby inside of you. Enjoy a nap; for some reason our generation thinks we can’t do that! Really listen to your body. I hope to continue to be a little kinder to myself after pregnancy.”

Christina Aguilera Is This Teen's Inspiration -- And He's Got The Powerful Voice To Match

Publicly, Reece Van Schalkwyk’s singing ability has gotten him recognition over the years. On a personal level, his powerful voice has helped him cope with losing his father.

Hailing from Durban, South Africa, Reece has been singing since he was 3 years old. A year later, his father passed away, and he used music as an outlet.

“I wrote and recorded a song when I was 10 years old titled "Do You Hear?” which allowed me to express the turmoil I felt about his death,” he said in an email to The Huffington Post.

Now 15, the singer has used his passion for music to perform at a variety of events in South Africa. After starting his singing career in church, Reece went on to participate in a talent search competition last year called "Gateway to Fame" where his performance of Beyoncé’s “Love on Top” helped him earn the top honors in his singing category.

Whether he’s taking on covers from his inspirations like Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion or working with original music, Reece simply loves to sing. Being able to convey his feelings on stage and through his videos pushes him to continue performing.

“I feel powerful when I deliver and project my mind and soul’s passions and complexities through singing,” he said.

After showcasing his talents, Reece started hearing from music industry professionals and record labels. They approached him with offers, but promises were never kept, which motivated him to be more independent when it came to his creativity. Aside from music, the teen edits and produces his own reality show on YouTube.

Fans of his impressive voice have no need to worry though. Music will always be an important part of the singer’s life. When asked if he wants to pursue music as a career one day, Reece proved he has it all figured out.

“Not ‘one day’ -- today. And why? Because I might never get tomorrow.”

'Some Folks Look for Answers' -- How the Grateful Dead Came to Announce Two Additional 'Fare Thee Well' Shows

$

When promoter Peter Shapiro became aware of the article I wrote last month, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Not the Grateful Dead," taking him to task for the way ticket sales were handled for the Grateful Dead's "Fare Thee Well" shows, scheduled for July 3-5 at Chicago's Soldier Field, he had two choices: 1. Write it off as the "butthurt whining" of someone who didn't get tickets (which, just for the record, was not true), or 2. Defend the manner in which ticket sales were conducted, the choice of venue and the way in which these factors served to stimulate the secondary market, causing ticket prices to soar into the thousands.

But Shapiro was not satisfied with either of those choices and came up with a third, very Grateful Dead-like option: He got my cell phone number from a mutual friend and called me to talk about the issues I had raised. Shapiro set the tone of the conversation by saying, "I'm a 'head' (referring to the term "Deadhead" that is commonly used among fans of the Grateful Dead), you're a 'head.' I just thought we should honor the spirit of the Grateful Dead and talk."

And talk we did, for almost an hour on that occasion, and on numerous other occasions during the ensuing month, leading up to today's announcement that the band will add two shows to the final chapter in their illustrious, 50-year long, strange trip. Over the course of our almost-daily conversations, emails and texts, Peter Shapiro and I maintained a level of respect and professionalism that was truly remarkable as we navigated our way through the complicated topics at hand. As a result, tough issues were addressed, the voices of the many thousands of Deadheads who didn't get tickets to the Chicago shows were heard and a solution was crafted.

There were three primary issues that I had raised in my article: the small percentage of tickets that were fulfilled through the initial mail order by Grateful Dead Ticket Sales, the choice of Chicago's Soldier Field as the venue and the selection of Trey Anastasio as the lead guitarist. I made it clear to Shapiro that my concerns about the latter two issues were relatively minor, and only relevant because they resulted in too many true Deadheads being shut out, while stimulating the secondary market, thereby raising ticket prices.

One of the most fundamental principles of the Grateful Dead and their fans, expressed in biblical language, has always been this: Thou shalt not sell a ticket to a Grateful Dead concert for more than face value. Critics of my article called me out for failing to accept the way ticket sales are conducted in the present day and age, and mocked my suggestion that all the tickets should have all been sold through the mail order. Peter Shapiro was not one of those critics. Rather, Shapiro came to recognize this as a problem that needed a solution.

"Your story, and others -- yours was the biggest one -- made us realize there was a problem," Shapiro commented. "I went to the Grateful Dead ticketing office and saw the (decorated mail order) envelopes; it was painful. We knew people were shut out."

So, Shapiro went to work to create a solution. About two weeks after our initial conversation he mentioned to me that he was trying to convince the band to do two shows in California and asked my opinion of that idea. "What would you think about two shows in the Bay Area the weekend before (the Chicago shows)?" To which I replied, "Pete, if you pull that off and sell all of the tickets by mail order, what's happened with the Chicago shows will be quickly forgiven."

After weeks of tireless work that ranged from convincing the band to negotiating agreements that enabled the use of an online mail order system, Peter Shapiro and the band have announced today that there will be two additional shows, June 27 and 28 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Most importantly, some 90 percent of the tickets will be sold in true Grateful Dead style, through an innovative online mail order lottery. According to Shapiro, "We will not be using the typical on-sale method. Everybody who enters will have an equal chance to get tickets in a true lottery, and the ability of 'bots' and other online ticket gathering techniques is eliminated."

The additional shows were announced on a special edition of Tales from the Golden Road, a radio show on the SiriusXM Grateful Dead Channel, at 3 p.m. EDT today, and the online mail order began immediately with that announcement at Dead50.net, and will continue through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday. Shapiro read a letter on behalf of the band, which you can read here.

In the beloved Grateful Dead song, "Playing in the Band," there is a passage that goes, "Some folks look for answers/Others look for fights." It is tempting to interpret this as extolling the virtues of looking for answers, while pointing out the folly of looking for fights. But it is often the case that we must fight for what we believe is right so that the folks who have the power to provide the answers will be moved to do so. This is known as speaking truth to power. Like so many of the messages in Grateful Dead songs, this principle applies broadly to numerous issues that we deal with in our troubled world -- global warming, our political system, GMOs, fracking, police violence -- and the list goes on and on.

In this final chapter of the Grateful Dead, the band's legacy as a vehicle for social justice remains intact. Those of us who took issue with the way so many Deadheads were excluded from the Chicago shows stood up and raised our voices, and Peter Shapiro and the band were forced to look for answers. And the answers they came up with -- two additional shows in the Bay Area, where the band's roots run deepest, and a fair, affordable method of ticketing -- serve to reassure us that the spirit of the Grateful Dead is still alive and well.

For seven days, Gwyneth Paltrow will live on the $29-per-week budget of families who rely on the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).

Paltrow has accepted the #FoodBankNYCChallenge from celebrity chef NYC Food Bank board member Mario Batali, who also challenged Sting and Debbie Harry, Us Weekly noted. The challenge limits people to $1.38 per meal for a week.

The 42-year-old actress spread the word on Twitter Thursday, along with a photo from the grocery store of what she purchased with her $29. The haul included limes, cilantro, corn, whole grain brown rice and eggs.

The #FoodBankNYCChallenge is meant to raise awareness about hunger and the struggle to live on a budget of just $29 per person for a week. Participants can use coupons, but they cannot use food that was already in their homes or food given to them by others.

Oscar Isaac Somehow Finds A Way To Link Disco, 'Star Wars' And Robots

$
0
0
Oscar Isaac is a name that’s become more familiar over the past several years. You likely first noticed the actor in 2010’s “Sucker Punch” or as Carey Mulligan’s boyfriend in “Drive." Since then, Isaac has earned a Golden Globe nomination for “Inside Llewyn Davis,” received high praise for his performance alongside Jessica Chastain in “A Most Violent Year” and is appearing in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

While the actor has said little about his "Star Wars" character, X-wing pilot Poe Dameron, The Huffington Post still asked him about the franchise while he was in New York promoting his latest film, “Ex Machina.” As a fan of the space opera series, what classic “Star Wars” scene would Isaac want to be in? The cantina scene from "Episode IV." "I could be one of the musicians in the background,” Isaac said as he imitated playing a set of bongos.

The actor’s musical abilities are far from news, though. Isaac showcased his singing and guitar skills when portraying fictional folk singer Llewyn Davis in the Coen Brothers’ 2013 film. Now, Isaac is unveiling another talent in Alex Garland’s “Ex Machina” during a scene that is at once unnerving and wildly fun: disco dancing.

ex machina

In the film, Isaac’s Nathan, a reclusive tech genius, has built an artificially intelligent robot, Ava (Alicia Vikander). He invites one of his company’s coding employees, Caleb (Domhall Gleeson), to his home to conduct a Turing Test on Ava, which in layman’s terms is to determine whether or not Ava can fully think like a human. During his week-long visit, Caleb gets into drunken philosophical discussions with Nathan about consciousness (the most fascinating part of the script for Isaac), grows close with Ava, and gets swept into watching Nathan and his female companion break out into a full-on choreographed dance (watch it here) to Oliver Cheatham's "Get Down Saturday Night."

“That was just Alex [Garland] being smart as far as keeping everybody off balance,” Isaac said of the disco non-sequitur. “That was a moment, from a rhythm standpoint, that you needed to get a complete 180. But completely logical if you think about this guy who’s been [in his home] for years without any human beings and makes these robots and fucks these robots. What else is he gonna do with them? Dance with them!”

tv show gifs
Image via Tumblr

That’s exactly what Isaac does, or as Nathan puts it in the film, “I’m going to tear up the fucking dance floor dude, check it out.” The choreography only lasts for less than a minute in “Ex Machina,” but Isaac told us that the dance was originally twice as long. It did take him a couple weeks to learn, though. “Not a natural disco dancer,” Isaac said with a laugh. Maybe we'll see Isaac's pilot teach the Mos Eisley band some dance moves in "Episode VII," if we're lucky.

“Ex Machina” is now playing in select theaters.

Cody Simpson Opens Up About His 'Project' With Justin Bieber That 'Never Got To See The Light Of Day'

A mysterious musical collaboration between Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson exists in this universe. Sadly, it's not available for public consumption -- yet.

In a Thursday conversation with HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker, Simpson revealed that he and the Biebs "actually worked on an entire project together last year that unfortunately never got to see the light of day."

"We both wanted to go our own musical directions and musical paths," Simpson said, explaining their reasoning for locking up what MTV reports is a whole album of duets. "Obviously we've been friends for a while and he's a good guy for sure, [and] we got to put out something cool [the 2014 single 'Home To Mama'] and we got a really great response online and stuff."

But fans should fear not. The sweet vocals of Bieber harmonizing with Simpson will someday surface, according to the "Thotful" crooner.
