Slade Smiley Fights Back

Slade Smiley, of "Real Housewives of Orange County" fame, is lawyering up after being verbally assaulted on a red carpet last week in Los Angeles, accused of being a deadbeat dad.

"There are serious repercussions [for] the individuals who say things in the show,” Smiley told me just before the recent red carpet incident. “People accuse me of not paying child support for my cancer-stricken son ... This year, the women that said that apologized for it, but the damage has been done and it can be a very difficult space to navigate.”

Smiley's "Real Housewives" girlfriend Gretchen Rossi has also been the target of more than a few hurtful allegations.

“Obviously, when Tamra [Barney] accused me of cheating on my dying fiancé, that was harsh,” Rossi siad.

Although Smiley declined to comment directly on his recent red carpet treatment, his lawyer sent me a statement: “Slade is not a deadbeat dad and is making timely payments. We will be looking into this further and if Miss [Michelle] Arroyo did hire these clowns to harass Slade," the lawyer said of Smiley's ex, "we will exercise all our rights, including a restraining order if necessary. It appears this whole thing was staged and created by Miss Arroyo who is obviously looking for attention.”

"We don’t like to think that we are celebrities, because it is very fleeting, but it does allow us to expose some of the business ventures that have come of this,” Smiley previously said, highlighting the positive things that can come from celebrity.

"If you are the star of the show, you are probably a hot mess," Rossi said. "Think about it! They are flipping tables and pulling wigs."

'Natural' Director Sets Hank Aaron Biopic

Hank Aaron never blew up a light tower with one of his home runs, but that doesn't preclude him from the Hollywood treatment. Variety reports that Aaron's life story will get turned into a movie by Barry Levinson, the man famous for bringing Roy Hobbs and "The Natural" to the big screen.

Based on the book "The Last Hero: The Life Story of Henry Aaron" by Howard Bryant, the new film will focus on Aaron's career between 1972 and 1974 -- the years he was chasing Babe Ruth's home run record. That time period was a tough one for the Atlanta Braves star, as he received numerous death threats about supplanting Ruth as baseball's home run king.

Aaron ended the 1973 season one home run short of Ruth, and wouldn't break the record until 1974. He finished his career with 755 home runs and held the record for over 30 years, before being passed by Barry Bonds in 2007.

No word yet on who will play Aaron in the biopic.

WATCH: Robert Pattinson Is A Prestige Loverboy In 'Bel Ami'

Before he was McDreamy, Patrick Dempsey was a teen idol famous for "Can't Buy Me Love." That film is great and all, but it was his "Love" follow-up, titled "Loverboy," that really put Dempsey on the map -- at least for people like me, who watched the completely inappropriate sex comedy on HBO when they were kids. (Sorry, mom!)

"Loverboy" comes to mind while watching the new trailer for "Bel Ami," the Robert Pattinson-led adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's novel about a fallen solider who becomes a lady killer in France during the 19th century. Sexy times! Unfortunately, because it's 19th century Paris and not 1980s California, pizza delivery companies don't exist -- that means lovely ladies like Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristen Scott Thomas have to take a more traditional approach in their attempts to bed R-Pattz. No extra anchovies in this one.

As you'll see in the trailer, things seem to go south pretty quickly -- "It's not enough to be loved, it's so clear to me" -- meaning there probably isn't a happy ending involving "The Way You Look Tonight."

"Bel Ami" can been downloaded on iTunes starting May 4; it hits theaters in June. Head over to Apple to watch the trailer in HD.

Ashton Kutcher Gunning For Oscar With Steve Jobs Role

$

Ashton Kutcher will be playing Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic about the tech icon, and Kutcher sees an Oscar in his future.

The Daily reports that Kutcher is serious about the role and is making sure he's done his research.

"He is already meeting with folks that knew Steve Jobs. He's working with professionals to get inside the voice. He's letting his hair grow out. I understand he's canceled all his meetings and actually canceled all other projects," says the film's producer, Mark Hulme. "He believes the role was meant for him.”

The role is a departure for Kutcher, who is best known for portraying intellectually stunted characters on "That '70s Show" and the 2000 movie "Dude, Where's My Car?". Kutcher has dabbled in more serious fare, most successfully playing a male prostitute and con man in 2009's "Spread" with Anne Heche.

News of Kutcher's casting broke on April Fools' Day, which had many wondering if they were being punk'd, but Hulme told The Daily that he's sure Kutcher will "prove to the world that this is the right part for him."

As the film's sole investor, Hulme is clearly talking up Kutcher's abilities for a reason, but his reasoning for why Kutcher is a great candidate for the role is pushing it.

"The physical resemblance is actually scary ... but he connects with the man in a very significant way. Of course, he's a big techie. he has a personal affinity to what Steve Jobs accomplished," he said.

Only time will tell if Kutcher can indeed do Jobs the justice he deserves, but it should help knowing that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has given him his blessing.

"I'm glad that he's on board," Wozniak told TMZ. "I think he'll put a lot into it and that he cares about this particular subject."

"Jobs" is being fast tracked, with filming starting next month, in hopes of releasing the film by Thanksgiving -- just in time for awards consideration.

"Josh [Michael Stern], the director, said, 'This project is so significant that I don't want any actor to come on board that doesn't believe in it and thinks it's award-worthy," Hulme revealed.

Are the Kardashians the new Brady Bunch? From the looks of a new music video clip Kim Kardashian posted on her blog, it looks as if the Kardashian-Jenner sisters could be giving Marcia Brady & Co. a run for their money.

"We filmed this music video while we were shooting our Christmas Card last year!! Kourtney was pregnant and trying to hide it! LOL," Kim wrote on her blog Tuesday, adding that the clip was directed by Kylie.

And it looks as if this isn't the only music video the Kardashians have been working on lately. Kim revealed this week that the family has another one up their sleeve.

S.Z. Berg: Why Cindy Crawford Is Partnering With St. Jude (Plus, You Could Win a New Home)

We all know Cindy Crawford as the beautiful, carefree-looking supermodel. However, her life hasn't been picture perfect. She was just shy of 10 years old when her brother, almost four years old, passed away from leukemia. Back then, her family didn't have much money, she said, and she watched as her parents had to pay the medical bills after her brother's death. Like it would be for anyone, it was an added burden to an already bereaved family.

Unfortunately, it's not atypical for families to have to pay medical bills after a loved one passes away. What is atypical is that there is at least one cancer center for children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where families pay nothing above what their health insurance covers, and if they don't have insurance, they don't pay at all, said Cindy Crawford, who is serving as a celebrity spokesperson for St. Jude. She emphasized that the research and treatment protocols developed there contributed to bringing the survival rate of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer and the type of cancer her brother had, from 4 percent in 1962 to 94 percent currently. Cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence, anymore, she said.

Cindy Crawford began helping St. Jude raise funds knowing that not only would the funds directly help St. Jude patients and their families, which include some of the most difficult medical cases from around the world, but the research conducted at St. Jude would help children everywhere.

However, the recession of recent years continues to take its toll on families across the nation, and that's having an impact on charitable donations. The numbers of charitable pledges to nonprofit hospitals slowed in fiscal year 2010 in both the U.S. and Canada compared with previous years, according to a report published in March 2012 by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP). Delays in donation decision making delay medical advancements.

Cindy Crawford said that shortly after the death of her younger brother her mother arranged a dance marathon to raise money to fight cancer. While it only brought in a couple hundred dollars, it left an impression on the supermodel.

Hospitals are increasingly turning toward special events, such as golf tournaments, community runs or walks, fashion shows and dinners, to raise cash, according to the AHP survey. In an effort to raise funds, St. Jude has teamed up with Cindy Crawford on the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. St. Jude will be giving away 28 dream homes across the nation. These new homes are valued between $300,000 and $700,000. Ticket holders also have a chance to win jewelry, electronics and furniture store gift certificates. 'New Girl': Jess Declares No More Secrets

After Winston cracks and tells the worst keeper of secrets on the show, it was mere moments before Jess learned that Cece was sleeping with Schmidt on "New Girl" (Tue., 9p.m. ET on Fox). While no one took the news well -- they simply can't fathom why a hot model like Cece would want to have sex with Schdmit, of all people -- it was particularly difficult for Jess.

For her, it was a betrayal of their lifelong friendship. It was Cece keeping secrets from her, when Jess never keeps any secrets from Cece. So Jess laid down the law and declared that there would be no more secrets in the household. However, she should have thought that one through a little more.

One by one in quick succession, the guys all admitted that they'd had sexual fantasies involving Jess. It was all too much to bear, and she quickly re-authorized the keeping of secrets. And then decided that she had to dress up in full winter gear to hide as much of her face and body as possible.

What she ultimately learned, though, was that secrets aren't necessarily a bad thing, and that the main reason Cece was keeping Schmidt a secret, was that despite herself she was developing real feelings for him, and wasn't sure yet how to deal with that. She's still not.

See how things develop as "New Girl" continues on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

'The Voice' Says Goodbye To 4 Contestants

$

0

This week marked the first live performances on the second season of "The Voice" and that also means the first eliminations. On Tuesday night, "The Voice" said goodbye to four contestants -- two from Team Blake and two from Team Christina.

America saved three contestants from both Blake Shelton's and Christina Aguilera's teams. Then, the bottom three on each team had the opportunity to sing one last time for their coaches to prove that they should be the one their coach would save from elimination. (For those familiar with "RuPaul's Drag Race," it was basically like lip-syncing for your life, but with actual singing.)

On Team Blake, America saved belter Erin Willett, Alicia Keys' former back-up singer Jermaine Paul and teen country crooner RaeLynn. Jersey girl Charlotte Sometimes, reggae singer Naia Kete and early fan favorite Jordis Unga were left to sing again. Host Carson Daly noted that Unga made it to No. 1 on the iTunes rock chart, but apparently, that wasn't enough to save her initially.

Naia Kete sang "If I Were A Boy" by Beyonce and moved her little brother -- who also has dreadlocks, along with the other members of her family -- to tears. Shelton noted that he would have liked to hear her do more reggae, but she says they "wouldn't let her." Is there a scandal afoot? Next up, Charlotte Sometimes covered "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls and finally, Jordis Unga did her version of The Rolling Stone's "Wild Horses."

After the three ladies performed -- and there didn't seem to be a dry eye in the audience -- Shelton opted to save a tearful Jordis Unga with little hesitation.

On Team Christina, family man Jesse Williams, alternative artist Lindsey Pavao and opera singer Chris Mann were the three singers America saved. Surprising young rocker Ashley De La Rosa, R&B singer Sera Hill and rapper Moses were left in the bottom to sing again. Ashley De La Rosa opted to show her tougher side with Grace Potters' "Paris Ooh La La." Next up, Sera Hill went with Mariah Carey's challenging hit "Vision of Love." And lastly, rapper/singer showed off his skills in regards to the latter title with The Script's "Falling To Pieces," which was the track that Shelton's Season 1 team member Xenia famously covered in her audition.

After both Shelton and fellow judge Adam Levine shared their thoughts, Aguilera agreed and gave Ashley De La Rosa the opportunity to move on in the competition.

Next week, we'll see how Team Adam and Team Cee Lo (hopefully without hair again) fare during their first live performances.

What did you think of Charlotte Sometimes, Naia Kete, Sera Hill and Moses going home?

"The Voice" airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET and Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

Giuliana Rancic's Awkward Wardrobe Mishap On 'Giuliana And Bill'

Guiliana Rancic faced a very strange fashion crisis on the season premiere of "Giuliana and Bill" (Tue., 8 p.m. ET on Style). In a form-fitting dress, she discovered that the attached corset part in the front was bulging out a little bit, giving her a rather unfortunate lump in an even more unfortunate place.

Otherwise, the dress looked gorgeous on her, which is probably why they decided to attempt a quick repair of the problem. "Can you tape up my penis," she told one of the women helping her get ready.

It made for an awkward few moments as the young woman's hands were up Giuliana's dress in a very intimate area, trying to find and then tape down this strange protrusion. Giuliana apologized and promised that she adhered to the strictest maintenance in that area, while the woman apologized for pressing on something -- she wasn't really sure what it was.

But it was a successful venture, and the dress was smooth in all the right places. Hopefully, whatever magic the woman had performed under the dress would hold, or Giuliana might have a surprise bulge later on in the night that would be embarassing and awkward to explain.

Catch the new season of "Giuliana and Bill" every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on Style.

Keith Olbermann Talks Current TV Firing On 'Late Show'

$

Keith Olbermann doesn't even remember how long ago it was that he left MSNBC for the much lesser known Current TV, but it really wasn't that long ago. On June 20, 2011 "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" premiered on Current TV, and on March 30, 2012, the network announced that they were firing him, saying that he no longer reflected their values. Olbermann was clearly still stinging from it on "Late Show" (Weeknights, 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS).

It was a high profile risk going into the venture, which Olbermann knew. He even cracked jokes about it when it was happening with a Top 10 list on David Letterman's show. And now he came right out and said, "I screwed up."

But then he went on to say, "If you buy a $10 million chandelier, you should have a house to put it in. Just walking around with a $10 million chandelier isn't going to do anybody a lot of good. And it's not going to do any good to the chandelier."

Letterman teased him a bit, asking innocently if Olbermann was the chandelier in this analogy. Clearly, as Letterman has pointed out many times and Olbermann has admitted, Olbermann has a high opinion of himself and his worth.

As for that big payday the network was promising him, he admitted that he's now hired the same lawyer that helped Conan O'Brien get his big settlement from NBC after his "Tonight Show" fiasco.

Catch new episodes of "Late Show with David Letterman" every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.

'Smash' Actor Talks Big Breakup And What's Next

Brian D'Arcy James, better known to "Smash" fans as Julia's faithful husband Frank Houston, gave an emotional performance on Monday night's episode.

In the appropriately titled "Hell On Earth," Frank discovers the truth about Julia's affair with actor Michael Swift. After flying into a rage that leads him to hunt Michael down and throw a punch at him, Frank packs his bag and leaves his wife of 18 years.

The day after the episode aired, James spoke with HuffPost TV about his character, the critical reception of "Smash," and more.

Smash is hitting the Season 1 homestretch. Do you feel like the Broadway community is supporting it?
Absolutely. All my friends that I've worked with over the years are chiming in, and they're giving me their reports. You definitely get the sense that there's this excitement from the community that their story's being told on television.

It seemed like Frank pretty much moved out last night. Is this it, or will he be in the final 5 episodes?
This isn't it for Frank. There's definitely a return that he makes, and without giving too much away, there are circumstances that bring their family together. It's certainly not an easy thing to do -- to kind of address what's happened with Julia's affair -- but there is a reason for them coming back together and perhaps, slowly rebuilding their family.

What about Season 2? Will Frank return then?
I sure hope so! I honestly don't have any idea, but I'm lobbying hard for that to be the case. What's a good Broadway show without a Chemistry teacher?

There was a lot of critical buzz around the "Smash" pilot, but after 9 episodes it seems there's been some backlash. Why do you think viewers and critics are turned off by it now?
Oh boy, that's impossible for me to answer really! What I've learned from this experience -- and I've never done a network television show before -- is that there are a lot of people watching this show. With that comes a lot of opinions. Honestly, even if we were an unadulterated, no-holds, complete, unmitigated smash hit, people would still have problems with this or that. It's impossible for me to tell what people are responding to, either positively or negatively.

I feel like anything that's a big deal is going to be criticized.
I think what's most important is that the network has given the show, and the fans of the show, a chance to believe and be bolstered by how the storytelling is occurring, and how it will continue in the future. Regardless of what people have to say about it negatively, the positive aspect of it is that it's going to come back, and it's going to have a chance to bring in more viewers.

Now that Frank and Julia seem to be splitting, is this the end of the adoption storyline?
I think it's completely sidetracked by this bigger fish to fry. I do think the idea of the adoption served the purpose in the pilot of being a touchstone for the family, especially for Julia and Frank, in terms of what they think about their family and their dreams about it. These are their professional and personal goals. As a concept, I thought it was a great way to delve into the family psychology, but I don't think it's going to be a major part of the evolution of the family story.

I know most of the season was shot before the show aired. What's it like to go back and watch something you shot so long ago?
It's very odd. But what's interesting to me is the immediacy of how you were feeling or what was occurring in the scene. Scenes with Debra [Messing, who plays Julia] were so grueling to do, and it was very immediately palpable what I was feeling while were doing it. To see it played out was obviously different than doing it. It's a very disconnected thing. You almost get to the point where you're just following along like a fan and you think, "Oh my god, Frank! Frank! You better hit that guy!" And then you're like, "Oh, good job, Frank!"

I know you're also guest starring on "The Big C." Can you tell me a little bit about your character?
His name is Tim, and he's a psychotherapist. It's a very interesting role because he invites Sean, John Benjamin Hickey's character, into a three-way relationship with my character's wife, played by Tammy Blanchard. So he invites Sean to engage in a three-way relationship, which is quite interesting. It's very dramatic, and for me, it was a very unusual and [laughs] illuminating thing to play.

How do you like TV compared to the stage? How is it different for you?
I love it. I've been theater for the last 25 years, so just getting a chance to work on something consistently, like a series -- the novelty of it is still very potent for me, to be able to learn something new about my trade. The difference of it is significant in terms of technique, but how one goes about achieving the goal is the same, to tell the truth. It's just the mechanics that are a little bit different, and it's great for me to hone those skills.

What else are you working on?
I'm focusing on a concert I'm doing at a new venue called 54 Below in June. It's a new space. Patti Lupone is going to inaugurate the first couple weeks of June, and I come in after her for a week of songs. Right now I'm aiming for an eclectic mix of pop songs that influenced me growing up, so that's what's next on my calendar. It's a good time for me, and I'm really appreciating it.

Wardrobe malfunctions, we presume, are every celebrity's worst nightmare. (Just ask Janet Jackson.)

So we can't help but wonder why a celebrity -- in this case, Rose McGowan -- would step out in an outfit that looks like a pre-planned wardrobe malfunction. When we first glanced at these photos of Rose leaving her Paris hotel, we couldn't believe what (we thought) we saw: Rose is topless!

Then, upon closer examination: Rose's nipples have vanished!

And finally, after much scrutiny: Ohhhh. She's wearing a beige tee. With black suspenders. And a black cardigan on top.

Which means the "Charmed" star managed to garner all the attention of a wardrobe malfunction victim sans the crippling embarrassment. Well played, Rose. Well played.

Is There A Curse On The House Of Schwimmer?

Has a curse fallen upon the House of Schwimmer?

Falling debris from David Schwimmer's under-construction East Village mansion struck and injured a person Tuesday afternoon, DNAinfo reports. The victim was taken to a Bellevue hospital with a minor arm injury.

Earlier this year Schwimmer demolished the historic 1852 structure at 331 East 6th Street to start building his new 6-story mansion despite pleas from the Landmarks Preservation Committee to preserve it and complaints from soon-to-be neighbors. (Basically he said this to the East Village.)

"Mr. Bigshot made a mistake tearing down this building," a 67-year-old Village resident named Charlotte told DNAinfo. "He paid a pretty penny and built some shiny silver thing. He's like a wart on the block. He doesn't belong here."

And Jay Russo, a city employee who grew up nearby, told The New York Post, "The Landmarks Commission is looking into these buildings, but before they are landmarked, people are coming in and tearing down the buildings."

So, are the ghosts of East Village past haunting the multiplying mansions of gentrifying yuppies a la Beetlegeuse? Or maybe a coven of witches at nearby Enchanted Inc. has cast a spell? We'll just have to wait and see.

Here's the house Schwimmer knocked down:

Ryan Gosling gets a lot of press around his almost-too-perfect capabilities, and frankly, he hasn't done much to disprove it. Between breaking up a fight last year, proving that beards are forever hot and creating a seemingly awesome documentary about political apathy and Occupy, Gosling can't go wrong.

And now, he's done something even better -- he's actually saved a woman's life. As reported on Twitter earlier this evening, Gosling grabbed British journalist Laurie Penny as she walked into the road and was almost hit by a taxi while looking the wrong way.

But we can tell it no better than the lucky lady herself:

Our sentiments exactly.

Now here's hoping there's no sudden rush of people "accidentally" walking into the streets in the hopes that Gosling can save them. Because after all, the man can't be everywhere at once -- or can he?

Fired 'Celebrity Apprentice' Contestant Speaks!

Dee Snider and Debbie Gibson were the two latest contestants to be fired by Donald Trump on "The Celebrity Apprentice." Tuesday, they both stopped by "Good Day New York" (weekdays, 7 a.m. ET on Fox) to talk about their experiences on the show dish on the rest of the field.

For her part, Gibson seemed to be relieved that her time on the show was finished. "Being fired was kind of like being spared, because it was getting a little toxic around there. I think people were going for ganging up, alliances, low blows, pot-shots ... I thought, if I'm not going to win the whole thing, I might as well go right now, I could just see it turning," she explained.

Both Snider and Gibson had some strong opinions on which members of their teams should have been fired instead of them. On the men's side, Snider nominated Lou Ferrigno, and detailed why. "The team's been carrying him the entire season ... he's a one-note horn. 'I'll be 'The Hulk,' I'll be on stage, I'll be the front, I'll take my shirt off.' He's a performer, it's all he can do," Snider charged.

Gibson pointed to Aubrey O'Day, who's quickly become this season's most controversial contestant. "If it was just about the fund-raising, at that point, Aubrey [O'Day] shoud've gone home," Gibson lamented.
