The Uncensored, Epic, Never-Told Story Behind 'Mad Men'

Don Draper lived on hard drives for half a decade before anybody paid him any notice. In 1999, Matthew Weiner, then an unfulfilled writer on CBS' Ted Danson sitcom "Becker," spent his every off-hour doing research on the 1960s: what people wore, how they decorated their offices, what they ate and drank (and smoked, and drank some more).

Great, Now 'Blurred Lines' Has Ruined The Entire Music Industry

It was bad enough when Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams tried to ruin the summer of 2013 with their smug turd of a pop tune, “Blurred Lines.” But that was just one summer, and it was somewhat redeemed by Pharrell's other big 2013 collab, “Get Lucky.” Within a few months, we forgot what rhymes with “Hug me” and moved on.

Nicole Eggert Of 'Baywatch' Fame Always Dreamed Of Having A Mobile Ice Cream Shop (VIDEO)

Watching Nicole Eggert rise to fame in the '80s and '90s -- she appeared in the family sitcom "Charles in Charge" and then starred in the more melodramatic "Baywatch" -- one might think that the versatile beauty would always find her natural home within the entertainment industry. But, as Eggert tells "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" in the above video, her dream has extended beyond appearing on television.

Last year, Eggert announced that she had a new endeavor. Rather than running down the beach in a red bathing suit, she would be spending her time driving around an ice cream truck -- but it's so much more than that. Eggert's truck is actually a full-blown modern-day business: It's an ice cream shop on wheels.

nicole eggert ice cream truck scoops

It's called Scoops, and Eggert says that it's a business idea she's had for quite a while.

"I always kind of dreamed of having something like this for the birthday parties that I planned for my oldest daughter," says the mom of two. "There just never was anything out there like that."

The traditional ice cream trucks that did exist, Eggart adds, simply didn't have the variety -- or the vibe -- she wanted for a children's party.

"All the ice cream truck guys, it was creepy!" she says.

The turquoise truck certainly stands out, but don't expect to catch it rolling up and down the streets playing the telltale jingle of the local ice cream man. "We mostly do private parties and events," Eggert explains. "You're not going to see it driving around your local neighborhood."

Eggert says she has managed to drum up local business by taking the truck to farmers markets to mingle with other Los Angeles residents.

"I take it on Sundays to get to know people," she says. "I have regulars now!"

Scoops may be Eggert's business, but it's a family affair. Even her two daughters can be found behind the counter.

"The kids come in and they work. They serve ice cream," Eggert says. "That's what we do on Sunday mornings!"

"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.

What Miles Teller Wishes He Could Tell People About 'Fantastic Four'

$

In an era where most superhero films come with an army of advanced promotional material, the Twentieth Century Fox reboot of "Fantastic Four" stands out as an anomaly. Due in theaters this August, the Josh Trank film has unveiled precious few of its secrets so far, beyond a teaser trailer and handful of photos featuring cast members Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell.

"I wish I could tell people there are six of us. It's really the 'Fantastic Six'!" Teller joked during an interview with The Huffington Post on Friday. "We created two characters on our own."

While extra superheroes are unlikely to appear, Teller, who plays Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic in the film, wouldn't necessarily know either way. He hasn't seen the finished product yet and only watched the film's trailer a half-day before the general public.

"It's going to be really interesting to be a part of a movie that size," he said, before expressing hope that people think "Fantastic Four" is "good enough" to push the sequel forward. (The second "Fantastic Four" film is already scheduled for release in June of 2017.) "I'm as excited as everybody else is to see what it looks like."

Teller can be seen in "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" in theaters on March 20. A full interview with Teller about the film will run closer to release.

Jazz Jennings, Transgender Teen, Becomes Face Of Clean & Clear Campaign

Things just keep getting better and better for Jazz Jennings -- and hopefully that means things will get better for all of us.

The 14-year-old transgender teen announced this week that she is one of the new faces of Clean & Clear's "See The Real Me" ad campaign, which features a social media push that asks people to use the #SeeTheRealMe hashtag to share personal stories that promote natural beauty.

Jennings told The Huffington Post:
"I feel really honored to be part of The #seetherealme campaign. It's really amazing, as it helps many teen girls who are struggling. It helps them to find themselves and be true to who they are. I hope they can learn to be brave and not care what other people think about them, because if they just stay positive and spread love, then others will be true friends who will accept them no matter what."

This has been quite the week for Jennings. In addition to the launch of her Clean & Clear campaign, it was also revealed that she will star in an 11-part TLC reality television series.

Jennings, who was assigned male at birth and began identifying and presenting as female soon after, has worked tirelessly to bring visibility to the transgender community. She's appeared on numerous talk shows, co-authored a children's book about being trans and was named one of Time magazine's 25 most influential teens in 2014.

Due to Jennings bravery and insistence on living as her true self both on and off camera, she is helping to change the way the world sees transgender people. She claims she's "just having fun being one of the girls" in her new Clean & Clear video, above, but we know better: she's transforming the world.

Russell Brand's New Doc Briefly Addresses Katy Perry Relationship

$

Katy Perry and Russell Brand have frequently discussed their 14-month marriage since it ended in December of 2011 after Brand sent Perry a text message saying he wanted a divorce. The split was even immortalized onscreen in the 2012 documentary, "Katy Perry: Part of Me," which featured Perry's tearful postmortem on their union.

"If you can believe in something great, I feel like you can achieve something great," Perry said in the film. "I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything. And I will do everything it takes to not fail. And I did everything it took, but it still failed."

Three years after that movie, the Brand-Perry relationship is back onscreen, albeit briefly. The couple are shown together in "BRAND: A Second Coming," a new documentary which had its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival on Friday night.

While "BRAND" is much more concerned with its title subject, Perry's presence is unavoidable. In fact, it's while Brand is married to Perry that he has a sudden epiphany about fame and his place in the world. The comedian is shown visiting Nairobi, where children are digging through a garbage dump loaded with hypodermic needles and other dangerous refuse; the footage is then juxtaposed with Brand discussing a lavish party he attended with Perry. It's a turning point that pushes Brand away from his ascension up the Hollywood ladder and toward his current place in the lexicon as a political activist.

The film also includes an interview Brand conducted with Perry while they were married, where the singer expresses some trepidation about their relationship (she tells a story about how the Buddha left his wife to search for enlightenment). But Perry says she "picked" Brand because of how his intelligence made her look. The camera remains on after their chat ends, and Perry stages a faux tantrum while Brand playfully admonishes for pretending to break their possessions. "I control the pussy," she jokes to someone off-camera. (A representative for Perry did not respond to request for comment when contacted by The Huffington Post.)

Brand has frequently said he enjoyed being married to Perry ("I really enjoyed it," he said last year), and while "BRAND" doesn't dwell on their relationship too much, it does include one piece of the comic's philosophy on human connections.

"I cut people out of my life if I think things aren't functioning," Brand says over footage of the 39-year-old visiting his grandmother's gravesite with his father. "And I think, 'What am I making this effort for?'"

Brand did not attend the debut screening of "BRAND: A Second Coming," announcing on Friday that he was "very uncomfortable" watching the film. Neither SXSW Film organizers nor "BRAND" director Ondi Timoner knew of Brand's decision until hours before the premiere.

This year's South by Southwest Film Festival runs from March 13 until March 21.

Adrien Brody Spent 7 Years Renovating A Castle, And It Changed His Life

$

Adrien Brody has an electrician. That's what happens when a person spends nearly a decade renovating a castle. Back in 2007, Brody purchased the Stone Barn Castle, a historic dwelling in Central New York, as a place for him and then-girlfriend Elsa Pataky to call home. Armed with the hope of creating a permanent place for himself after feeling adrift following his role in "Brothers Bloom" (where he played a con man who felt adrift in his own life), Brody and filmmaker Kevin Ford set out to make ... something. The result is "Stone Barn Castle," a documentary about Brody's experiences with his house and an in-depth look at the actor's spirituality and worldview.

"It's a personal endeavor. We didn't quite know what we were engaging in," Brody, who speaks slowly and and with thoughtful pauses, told The Huffington Post in a recent interview. "We knew this would be a very long process and one that was very meaningful to me, but you need someone who is a real team player. Kevin was always able to be present, but it wasn't strictly in a documentary aspect. There was an element of artistry. We have a similar approach in how we look at things and find beauty. It's wonderful to look back and see that I had a friend to witness all of this challenging stuff."

The challenges Brody mentions run the gamut. The film -- which premieres at this year's South by Southwest Film Festival -- shows him dealing with contractors, juggling cement work and even vacuuming up water after yet another basement flood. Its early stages lean heavily on his relationship with Pataky, which ended shortly after the pair participated in a photoshoot at the castle in 2008. (Pataky married Chris Hemsworth in 2010.)

"The sharing of certain things that are personal is a challenge, I admit," Brody said when asked about showing so much of his own real life to the world. "But I believe the film represents this universal feeling we all have: We are all looking for a sense of home, we all have dreams and aspirations, and then life sometimes does not happen the way we expect it to. There are many blessings within all of that and there are obstacles to overcome. My life has been enriched by all these beautiful people who have been in my life. Therefore, sharing my own good fortune of these experiences is a beautiful thing. So I have to overlook certain aspects of it. I've got nothing to hide. All of this is an authentic part of the journey and I could not tell the story without all the elements in it."

adrien brody elsa pataky

The sequences with Pataky and the fact that Brody is shown across multiple years lends the film a very slice-of-life feel that could draw comparisons in format to Richard Linklater's "Boyhood," which was shot in installments over 12 years. Sure enough, Linklater is a friend and mentor to Ford, and gave the filmmaker a bit of advice that helped shape how "Stone Barn Castle" turned out.

"At one point, Linklater was just checking in on us and, as a friend, asked what it was we were telling with all this footage," Ford said to The Huffington Post. "We were still in the middle of the filming and it could have gone in some many ways, and focused on so many storylines, and he kind of interrogated us about the possible storylines. The one that we ended up with was something that when he heard it, he said might be a clue about where to focus in: the personal journey. It's funny, he was in the middle of this spanning odyssey himself. He probably related to this. Recently, he said it's kind of like Adrien had his own 'Boyhood,' of sorts. He was growing and changing over the years. He becomes a different guy by the end of it."

The change in Brody, who won an Oscar for "The Pianist" in 2003 and has seen his career go through good times (his collaborations with Wes Anderson) and bad (the 2013 disaster "InAPPropriate Comedy"), is one the actor will readily admit to having undergone.

"I think this experience changed me in more ways than I could put into words. It definitely made me a better human being and a man, because I had to own up to so much responsibility," Brody said. "The joy and the suffering I endured in this only enriches my being. To be an actor, you have to have lived. The more you've lived, the more honest you can be in the end. That's the goal."

And while there will likely always be something to fix, Brody's renovations on the Stone Barn Castle are relatively complete. The only problem now is finding time for him to actually live in the place he spent nearly a decade putting together. Brody is busy acting as well as producing, but he said there are no plans to sell what became his life's work.

"I don't think I'll come across this ever again," he said. "So I probably will just try and hang on until I can be like Coppola and kick back with my family. But right now, I'm still a young man and I'm still very ambitious and I have a lot of things I want to do. I'm producing films in China, I'm trying to make movies abroad. I find myself in these exotic places as new characters multiple times a year. It's lovely in the one sense that I have this place, spiritually, to go home to. I can meditate on the fact that there is a sanctuary for me to retreat to. I'm grateful for that. Part of that is relayed in the film: it's really about the state of mind that you can create. This helped me understand that. I hope to be able to enjoy it. I hope to have more time there."

Watch a teaser for "Stone Barn Castle" below. This year's South by Southwest Film Festival runs from March 13 until March 21.

How 5 Mega-Famous People Make Time For Daily Meditation

One of the most common challenges that meditators face is learning how to build their mindfulness practice into already busy days. It's not always as easy to make the time. Joining a meditation class or pledging to do a challenge (like Oprah's upcoming one with Deepak Chopra!) is a great way to make sure you meditate consistently. But if you're doing it on your own, we asked some famous meditators (who are also famously busy) for advice on your behalf. How do they make sure to get their daily practice in?

"I give myself a healthy dose of quiet time at least once (and when I'm on point, twice) a day: 20 minutes in the morning, 20 in the evening. Knowing that stillness is the space where all creative expression, peace, light, and love come to be is a powerfully energizing, yet calming experience. Knowing for sure that even in the daily craziness that bombards us from every direction, there is -- still -- the constancy of stillness. Only from that space can you create your best work and your best life."

KOBE BRYANT

"I normally do my mindfulness exercises in the morning. It's the first thing I do when I get up. I find that to be the best way to start the day. It gets me in balance before the busyness and hecticness of the day kicks off."

ARIANNA HUFFINGTON

"Meditation has long been an important part of my life. My mother had actually taught my younger sister, Agapi, and me how to meditate when I was 13 years old. But although I’ve known its benefits since my teens, finding time for meditation was always a challenge because I was under the impression that I had to 'do' meditation. And I didn’t have time for another burdensome thing to 'do.'

Fortunately, a friend pointed out one day that we don’t 'do' meditation; meditation 'does' us. That opened the door for me. The only thing to 'do' in meditation is nothing. Since then, I've made 20 to 30 minutes of meditation part of my morning routine. As Brian Andreas wrote, 'Everything changed the day she figured out there was exactly enough time for the important things in her life.'"

"I am a very organized person. I get up at 6:15 a.m., the kids get up at 6:45 a.m., and so I get up and get it in. I’m addicted to the high function. To me it’s a work thing -- if you meditate, you can get so much work done. I always say to people you know how about three nights a year you get a good night sleep? You can have it every day with meditation."

James Van Der Beek Was Caught with ‘Dawson's Creek' Gay Porn

You know you've made it when your TV show is made into porn, right? That's certainly how James Van Der Beek saw it during his "Dawson's Creek" days.

While chatting with Vulture about his "Power Rangers" "deboot," the "Dawson's Creek" star brought up a fond memory from his days on the show.

"I remember when I was doing 'Rules of Attraction,' and the hair and makeup department got me a copy of the 'Dawson's Crack' porn movie as a gag gift. It was on VHS, that's how long ago that was, and I thought it was hilarious," Van Der Beek explained.

"I couldn't wait to bring it back and show everybody in North Carolina and say, 'We've made it! Look at us. They've made a porno out of us,'" he continued. "This was right after 9/11, and I get flagged by security, and somebody opened up the suitcase, and there’s a gay porno right on top. Not just any gay porno, but one based on the show that I was on. Which is kind of excellent."

Thirteen years later, 38-year-old Van Der Beek is starring in "CSI: Cyber" and has three kids, but he certainly isn't ashamed of that porn incident -- he tweeted about it after his interview.

'Frozen' Star Josh Gad Is Coming To Disney's 'Beauty And The Beast'

Say bonjour to your newest "Beauty and the Beast" cast member.

Josh Gad, aka Olaf from "Frozen," is reportedly in final talks to play LeFou in Disney's live-action remake of the "tale as old as time." The actor appears to have confirmed the news with a pretty hilarious side-by-side tweet:

Gad will join a cast that already has major star power. Belle is set to be played by Emma Watson, Beast will be portrayed by "Downton Abbey" star Dan Stevens and Gaston will be played by Luke Evans, aka Bard from "The Hobbit" movies.

As the bumbling sidekick of Gaston, it appears Gad will have a lot of interaction with Evans. And though the latter was responsible for defeating Smaug, there's no doubt they'll have their hands full with the Beast.

If anything, the news of Gad's involvement finally tells us what frozen things do in summer ... or, you know, whenever production starts on the movie.

What Adam Pally Can Say About The 'Happy Endings' Countdown Clock

$

Last month, the long-dormant Twitter account run by the writers of "Happy Endings" shared a cryptic link that sent fans to a page featuring a countdown clock. "It's almost a new day," reads the site, with time ticking down to April 1, aka April Fools' Day.

But despite the fact that the clock could be an elaborate ruse, fans of the canceled series were tantalized by the possibility of a renaissance. "The thought that 'Happy Endings' might actually be resurrected is probably the most ah-mah-zing thing I’ve heard in a long time," wrote Natalie Abrams at Entertainment Weekly. "I need to know what this means. I'm, like, stress-vomiting with anticipation," tweeted TVLine staff editor Andy Swift.

In the weeks since the @happywrites account posted the link, many have speculated that some kind of second life for the show could materialize. (After the tweet, the account also followed streaming services Netflix, Amazon and Yahoo Screen.)

Former "Happy Endings" stars Damon Wayans Jr. and Adam Pally left their respective regular roles on "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project," while Eliza Coupe's show "Benched" was canceled. And while other "Happy Endings" cast members Casey Wilson, Zachary Knighton and Elisha Cuthbert are currently involved in different series, none of those shows have been picked up for future seasons. What does it all mean?

"I can't tell you anything," Pally told The Huffington Post during an interview at South by Southwest to promote his new film, "Night Owls," which debuted at the festival on Friday. "I know as much as you."

But after Pally was pressed to provide some concrete information by his "Night Owls" co-star, Rosa Salazar, he did offer one tidbit.

"I'll tell you this: I know the origin of that 'Happy Endings' countdown clock was not intended to be where it is headed," he said. "That's as much as I can give you."

Check back on Monday for more from Pally and Salazar on "Night Owls." This year's South by Southwest Film Festival runs until March 21.
