Liam Neeson Says America Has 'Too Many F**king Guns'

Liam Neeson voiced his issues with gun ownership in America during a conversation about the recent shooting at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris.

“First off, my thoughts and prayers and my heart are with the deceased, and certainly with all of France, yesterday. I’ve got a lot of dear friends in Paris,” Neeson said during an interview in Dubai this week. "There's too many fucking guns out there. Especially in America. I think the population is like, 320 million? There's over 300 million guns. Privately owned, in America. I think it's a fucking disgrace. Every week now we're picking up a newspaper and seeing, 'Yet another few kids have been killed in schools.'"

Neeson went on to deny that movies featuring firearms, such as his own "Taken" series, encourage people to buy guns, saying: "I grew up watching cowboy movies, loved doing that [gun gesture] with my fingers, 'Bang, bang, you're dead!' I didn't end up a killer. I think that's something the power of cinema can be."

According to estimates, there are between 270 million and 310 million guns in the U.S., the Pew Research Center has noted. With a population of about 300 million, that's one for every man, woman and child. In a 2013 Pew survey, 37 percent of Americans said someone in their household owned a gun.

The 62-year-old star, who was born in Ireland, echoed similar sentiments about gun control during a September interview with the Independent.

"I am totally for gun control in the U.S.," he said. "The population of America is roughly 300 million and there are 300 million guns in this country, which is terrifying."

Watch Patrick Stewart Act Like Every Annoying Airline Passenger You'll Ever Meet

These people are the reason you need to know where the nearest exits are on the plane.

The travel company Expedia recently conducted a poll asking fliers to name the most annoying passengers you'll encounter on a flight. Rather than simply reading the list, Jimmy Kimmel thought it'd be better to have Sir Patrick Stewart act it out.

From the "Chatty Charlie" to the "Seat Kicker," Stewart covers all the irritating passenger types out there. And just FYI, if you think you've never encountered one of these, chances are it's you.

Olivia Munn: 'Newsroom' Directors Wanted Me To 'Take The Girly Route'

Olivia Munn had no problem standing up to directors while starring in HBO's "The Newsroom" -- and neither did the show's creator and writer, Aaron Sorkin.

In a conversation with HuffPost Live on Wednesday, Munn expressed her disdain for when "Newsroom" directors would ask her to "take the girly route" and "smile and smirk." But when the actress would refuse to adhere, Sorkin was a loyal ally.

"He was like, 'One hundred percent not. Do not,''" she recalled, "and we were always on the same page and then he would come up and back me right away."

"When you have him backing you -- that meant everything," she added.

The 34-year-old, who stars alongside Johnny Depp in the upcoming "Mortdecai," recalled a specific occasion in which a director felt she wasn't being flirty enough as the girlfriend of Don, her onscreen beau (played by Thomas Sadoski).

"One director pulled me aside and said 'Olivia, the thing is, I'm the director, so I have to look at the entire rainbow [...] and you're bringing something but I don't think you realize maybe how you're coming off,'" she recounted. "... I go, 'Oh, so do you don't think I realize how my choices are coming off? [...] How am I coming off?"

The actress rejoiced when the director replied "aggressive."

"I go 'Great! That's exactly what I wanted,' and that was it!"

Munn, who felt that the directors were neglecting "the other two seasons" as well as her character, saw the representation they were asking for to be both demeaning and inaccurate.

"I felt like, just because you're in a relationship doesn't mean you have to start being like, all giggly and girly," she said. "... I've [heard] from a lot of women telling me 'I'm happy you didn't become all mushy and soft and become one of those women who gets weird when they're in a relationship."

My Inheritance from My Father

Some people inherit money; I inherited knowledge: knowledge from my father and also from his father. Since the same rules, boundaries and limitations were taught to me from two generations, it reinforced each lesson they taught me. My father and my grandfather played important roles in my development. Without them, I would not be the man I am today.

My father was a big influence on my life. As a child, he called me "The Champion" and carried me around like a trophy. He gave me the pride and motivation to push myself to become the best I can be.

My grandfather passed along his understanding of Mother Nature to me. Through watching him interact with the dogs on the farm, I learned much of what I know about dog psychology.

I hope to share my inheritance with my two sons, Calvin and Andre. Humans, like dogs, are a pack-oriented species. I teach my boys that taking care of others is really about taking care of yourself. If you are selfish, you will feel incomplete and lonely; only by giving to others will you really feel good about yourself.

To me, being a good friend, being a good dog owner, and being good to Mother Nature -- these are all parts of being a good father. I hope that, through my example, I can add the knowledge from my own life experience to the inheritance I pass along to my children.

Stay calm and assertive!

Beyoncé Is Not a Prostitute

$
0

Yoncé has been all on our mouths like a nice, cold glass of Hennessy this past year. At this point, it is undebatable that Beyoncé ushered feminism into the mainstream. From a bold testament on her surprise self-titled EP to another forward declaration at the 2014 VMAs, Queen Bey the Feminist Icon arrived to shove her audacious, sexy and personal take on feminism down the world's patriarchal throat.

But, as with most women who are brave enough to take an unpopular stance, critics have done nothing but tear her down since she's -- for lack of better phrasing -- come out as a feminist. Likely 2016 GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is one of those critics.

After describing the singer's 2014 Grammy performance of "Drunk in Love" with her husband Jay Z in his new memoir -- due for release January 20 -- Huckabee provided a very racially loaded and sexist critique of the power couple:

"Why? Beyoncé is incredibly talented -- gifted, in fact," Huckabee pens. "She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer - without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom. Jay Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?"

Huckabee didn't explicitly say Beyonce isn't a feminist -- though he's commented before on Beyonce's lack of "control" over her image -- but his commentary played into colorblind feminist rhetoric.

It's no secret that the GOP is often behind the times in their attitudes toward race and gender equality -- and that has affected their voter favorability. Huckabee's comments, which didn't improve assumptions of the GOP, lacked consideration of the cultural and historical contexts that make performance art different for black women. The Knowles-Carters -- like most black people -- have been criticized without acknowledgment of the intersectionality of gender and race.

Referring to Beyoncé as "talented" and "gifted" aligns with a sentiment that negates all the hard work and effort black people put into our crafts by deeming us as naturally good at something. Huckabee, with this language, downplayed the time, energy and effort Beyoncé has poured into perfecting her career.

There is also an evident misunderstanding of the significance of marriage within the Black community. Black people have not always been allowed to marry someone on our own terms, if we were permitted to marry at all. Additionally, Black women have never been economically submissive to our Black husbands since we have always worked outside the home. Beyoncé being able to flaunt her marriage in work that she does, not because she has no other choice, but because she enjoys it is quite revolutionary. It exemplifies choice.

Beyoncé's choice to embrace herself as a sexual being who loves twerking in fly bodysuits, and pleasuring and being pleasured by her man does not make her a prostitute (the terminology Huckabee hinted around). Denouncing women for being sexual is highly patriarchal and fits perfectly into the pro-male rhetoric of our society. More specifically, criticizing and damning Black women for their sexuality is something white patriarchy -- an ideology heavily associated with the GOP agenda -- has been doing for centuries.

Historically, Black women have been portrayed as innately erotic, promiscuous Jezebels due to more voluptuous figures. White women are often upheld as pillars of modesty, self-respect and self-control. Thus, it makes sense why Madonna, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus are considered revolutionary feminist icons owning what their mother's gave them while Beyoncé, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj are seen as objectifying themselves.

The assumption that an openly sexual woman is objectifying herself or being controlled and consumerized by the man in her life is preposterous, at best. Beyoncé's lyrics and performances are simply her owning and embracing her sexuality in a society that has a tendency to unwillingly fashion Black women into hypersexualized animals. She is merely exercising agency via her self-portrayal.

Any manner in which a black woman reclaims her sexuality is viewed as vulgar. Black women have always been Otherized as innately hypersexual entities who should be attempting to eliminate sexuality in an attempt to become more pure. But has been Beyoncé ever been impure? She has never grinded into a man's genitals onstage. She never fetishizes herself, or anyone else, in her performances. She is always clearly in control of the performance scenario and her place within it. She is cognizant of the male consumer gaze but she hardly incorporates it into her predominantly all-female acts. And when she does, it is because she wants it.

The only male gaze she explicitly attends to is her husband's -- a man who only looks at, and never touches, her while they perform. Granted, Jay did pat the top of Beyoncé's bottom during the Grammy performance but they're married. That happens in relationships. It also happens in sports. She usually stands right next to him and grazes him with her derriere, but he never touches it. Then she smirks and struts off. Jay Z usually doesn't touch her because she hasn't given him permission to do so -- if that isn't owning your body, I don't know what is.

It's ludicrous to assume women cannot entertain and, at times, want the male gaze. It's outrageous to immediately associate any sexual act or sex-positivity with exploitation. Women of color have had different experiences socially, politically, economically and historically when it comes to being sexual. We haven't been able to shamelessly worship our own bodies.

Mike Huckabee doesn't know what he's talking about. So just have a seat, play your guitar and let Beyoncé be great.

Olivia Munn Thinks Her Fangirling Might've Freaked Out John Mulaney

Olivia Munn thinks she knows why John Mulaney's yet to respond to her email.

"We were at a wedding together and I was like 'Oh my gosh, do you and your fiancè want to go have dinner or something and go hang out?" the "Mortdecai" star recalled in a Wednesday conversation with HuffPost Live.

But the actress' fangirling did not end there.

"At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like 'So you having fun?'" She continued: "I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him."

Shortly after, when the "Newsroom" star sent the comedian an email, she noted that "he never emailed back."

"I might've got the wrong email -- probably," she laughed. "That's what I tell myself."

Donny Osmond: I 'Stole' My Brother's Girl, And Now We're Married

Donny Osmond seems like one to play by the rules, but back in the day, the singer had no problem breaking the unspoken guy code when he "stole" his brother's girl.

In an interview with HuffPost Live, Osmond looked back to 1976, when he and his brother, Jay, took their dates to an Elton John concert in Salt Lake City.

“I vividly remember when Elton sat down to sing ‘Your Song,’ I looked over at my brother and his date, and I thought to myself, ‘Someday, I’m going to marry my brother’s date,’” Osmond said.

Osmond was so determined to get with the “cute cheerleader,” he didn’t even consult his brother before making his move.

“I just called her up and said, ‘Hey, do you wanna go out with me now?’" he told host Nancy Redd on Wednesday. “She turned me down. So the chase was on.”

After multiple tries, she eventually agreed to go out with Osmond, and after three and a half years of dating, the couple got hitched.

“Debbie and I have been married for 37 years,” he said. “I finally got the girl.”

11 Revelations From Gwyneth Paltrow's Interview With Howard Stern

Gwyneth Paltrow said it herself during her interview with Howard Stern on Wednesday: "Just get me to shut the fuck up!”

Well, Gwyneth didn't take her own advice. In fact, it appears she couldn't help but talk about every aspect of her life on Stern's Sirius XM show, including past loves, famous friends and her thoughts on estranged husband Chris Martin's rumored new girlfriend, Jennifer Lawrence.

Here are 11 things we learned from Paltrow's no-holds-barred interview on "The Howard Stern Show:"

1. In her opinion, Gwyn's most-famous "famous" friends are Jay Z and Beyonce.
gwyneth paltrow beyonce
"My best famous friend is Cameron Diaz and Jay and Beyonce. I met Jay first at a benefit in New York probably, I think I had had my daughter but not my son yet. And we all became friends," she said. "I normally don’t [become friends with famous people] but in that particular case, Chris and Jay, we all just kind of [vibed] ... They’re the greatest people. They’re funny and sweet and they’re self-aware and they’re really intelligent."

2. Coldplay's song "Fix You" was written about her.
"'Fix You' was about him trying to put me back together after my dad died," she said of Chris Martin, adding that there were "a few" tunes written for her. "I think it’s pretty nice."

3. Paltrow swears she did not steal her Oscar-winning "Shakespeare In Love" role from Winona Ryder.
gwyneth paltrow winona ryder
"That’s an urban myth," she asserted, saying she hasn't seen Ryder in years. "I swear to God I did not, I’m raising my right hand on the Bible. I swear to God."

4. Her late father, Bruce Paltrow, was the real love of her life.
gwyneth paltrow bruce paltrow
Paltrow's dad died in October of 2002, following a battle with cancer. "He was kind of the love of my life. I’ll never forget when he died .... someone wrote me an email saying, ‘Everybody has a father, but not everybody has a daddy.’ And that’s what he was," she said. "He was the best."

5. Gwyneth's real philosophy behind "conscious uncoupling" is simpler than you think.

Gwyneth made the phrase "conscious uncoupling" a thing last year after announcing her split from Chris Martin. "The idea is you try to do it with minimal acrimony and you say, 'Look, we have kids, we’re always going to be a family and let’s try to find all the positives in our relationship, all the things that brought us together, the friendship.' We actually have a really strong friendship and we laugh and we have fun," she said of her split from Martin. "But there are times when it’s really difficult and things happen and you’re like, ‘I’m sure he doesn’t want to hang out with me and I don’t want to hang out with him.' But for the sake of the kids you do it. But you also don’t do it all tense."

6. Apple Martin really likes her name, according to her mom.
apple fruit
“She loves it, she does," Gwyneth said, adding, "Chris named her though."

7. If Chris Martin is into Jennifer Lawrence, his estranged wife is cool with it.

Martin is reportedly dating Jennifer Lawrence, although neither one of them have spoken out about the relationship. Still, it sounds like Gwyneth is a fan.

Howard Stern: Let’s say he starts dating someone you don’t approve of, like J.Law or whatever the hell her name is.
Gwyneth Paltrow: Who says I don’t approve?
HS: You don’t approve of Jennifer Lawrence ...
GP: Why not?!
HS: Because I’m saying this, just assuming ... But that’s going to be an issue.
GP: Why is it going to be an issue?
HS: Because you don’t want your kids exposed to someone who’s a maniac.
GP: But I respect him as the father of my children and it’s his life and it’s his decision. And I do think he loves the kids so much and I don’t think he’d be with someone who wasn’t great. And if I’m wrong, I’ll come back here and tell you.

8. She turned down a role in "Boogie Nights" because of her conservative grandfather.
"I can't be totally naked and giving a BJ onscreen. I'll kill my grandfather," she said of the role, which eventually went to Heather Graham. She also turned down the part of Rose in "Titanic," which was ultimately played by Kate Winslet, but she says she doesn't regret her decision: "I look back on some of the choices that I've made and I'm like, why the hell did I say no to this and yes to that? And you look at the big picture and you think there's a universal lesson here and you know, you can't hold on. What good is it?"

9. She thought Brad Pitt was "too good" for her, and their breakup devastated her father.
78478551
Paltrow and Pitt fell in love on the set of the 1995 film "Seven" and dated for almost three years before splitting. "I definitely fell in love with him. He was so gorgeous and sweet and, I mean, he was Brad Pitt, you know?" she told Stern. The couple became engaged before calling it off because she felt she wasn't ready to take the next step. "I was such a kid," she told Stern. "I mean I was 22 when we met and it's taken me until 40 to get my head out of my ass. You can't make a decision when you're 22 years old."

The actress says the breakup wasn't easy on her father, either: "My father was so devastated when we broke up. My father loved him like a son." Still, the pair remain amicable exes, as Paltrow insists that she and Pitt are "friendly" when they see each other.

10. She says her ex-boyfriend Ben Affleck "wasn't in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend."
gwyneth paltrow ben affleck
After her breakup with Brad Pitt, Paltrow moved on with another A-lister, Ben Affleck. But when Affleck and Paltrow split in 2000 after an on-and-off relationship of three years, her parents weren't as upset as they were when she and Pitt went their separate ways. "I think they appreciated how [Affleck] is super intelligent, and he's really, really talented and he's funny. But he wasn't in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend so I think they were okay with -- they loved him -- but they were okay with us not being [together]," she said.

11. But Gwyneth, Ben and his wife Jennifer Garner are all close friends.
gwyneth paltrow jennifer garner
"I like him, I'm friends with him still. He settled down and his wife is awesome. Not only is she beautiful, but she's so warm and she cooks and is so into her kids -- she's really great and she's hilarious," she said of Garner. "I had a girls' dinner before the summer and she came over, she's my neighbor. I really like her a lot."

George Lopez On Erik Estrada: 'I'll F*ck That Motherf*cker Up'

$

Comedian George Lopez and late-'70s heartthrob Erik Estrada have a history of not liking each other. In a HuffPost Live interview Wednesday, Lopez said his feelings haven't changed much.

"I'll fuck that motherfucker up," Lopez told host Marc Lamont Hill. "Now, I'll take the tale of the tape any time with Erik Estrada any time. You want to go to Forbes and put money together? You want to put credits together? You want to put television shows together, or overall how much money we've made in our careers? I'll fuck that motherfucker up. Erik, if you're watching or you see this, you have no chance."

The disdain stems from a chance meeting between the two when Lopez was just 17, and Estrada's fame was at its peak. Lopez extended his hand to Estrada for a handshake. Estrada ignored Lopez, blowing right past him. Lopez, furious, then told himself then that if he ever got famous, he'd never befriend Estrada. He's never backed down from that promise, apparently.

"I told my friend in the car, I said, 'If I ever make it, that dude is going to pay,'" Lopez said. "And he has paid. He continues to, instead of apologizing to me, he continues to say, 'Hey, if you want to fight, let's fight.'"

Lopez said he uses the encounter, and the resulting beef, as a cautionary tale for his own career.

"I use that situation as motivation for my career and my life. Whatever people think of me, I have a great life, and I partly have to thank that dude," Lopez said. "That experience made me nicer to people, but also drove me to say, 'I'm going to be successful.'"

Looks like Selena Gomez took some time out of her busy schedule for an afternoon swim.

The bikini-clad singer posted a selfie to her Instagram account as she relaxed in the sunshine, writing a caption that totally reminds of us of our old AIM away messages: "Swim, shower, script then studio":

Perhaps Gomez is reading the script for her upcoming lead role in the film adaptation of the 2013 novel by Jonathan Evison, The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving. The 22-year-old announced the casting news on her Twitter account on Tuesday:

According to Deadline, Gomez will play the role of a "sassy young woman" who meets a frustrated teenage boy with muscular distrophy and his caregiver, Ben (Paul Rudd). It looks like Rudd and Gomez are already acquainted, as she snapped a photo with the actor (and Justin Theroux) at a Golden Globes after-party on Sunday night:

Chloe Goins To Pursue Criminal Charges Against Bill Cosby After Sexual Abuse Claims

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A model who claims Bill Cosby drugged and sexually abused her at the Playboy Mansion met with Los Angeles police on Wednesday to pursue criminal charges against the comedian over the 2008 incident.

An attorney for Chloe Goins said after the meeting that his client is the first woman accusing Cosby of sexual misconduct whose case may fall within the statute of limitations. More than 15 women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct, including several who say the comedian drugged and raped them in incidents dating back at least four decades. Goins did not speak during a press conference Wednesday. Her attorney, Spencer Kuvin, said she came forward after hearing about other women describing abuse by Cosby and realizing she might have a valid criminal case.

An email to Cosby's attorney, Marty Singer, was not immediately returned.

Kuvin declined to discuss what Goins told detectives but restated her allegations that Cosby drugged her at a 2008 event at the Playboy Mansion. Goins does not know what happened while she was blacked out but Kuvin says she awoke to find herself naked and Cosby over her.

"Ms. Goins and I are here for two reasons: for justice and accountability," Kuvin said.

Goins is at least the second woman to meet with Los Angeles police detectives to recount accusations against Cosby.

Prosecutors rejected filing charges against Cosby based on allegations by Judy Huth, a Riverside County resident who is suing the comedian, alleging he abused her in the early 1970s when she was 15 years old. Huth's lawsuit states the abuse happened at the Playboy Mansion.

Los Angeles police Commander Andrew Smith said that he could not confirm any investigation into Cosby and that sex abuse cases are "extremely confidential."

Neither Smith nor Kuvin would speculate on what charges Cosby might face, and both noted that the statute of limitations for sex offenses are complex and depend on the facts of a case.

Cosby's attorney has denied some of the accusations against the comedian, saying they have been discredited or come from discredited accusers. Cosby joked about the allegations against him at a recent show in Canada and is scheduled to perform two shows in Denver on Saturday night despite planned protests.

"We hope that the people that are paying to attend Mr. Cosby's shows understand that these victimized women have broken their silence now and they will not remain quiet any longer," Kuvin said. "Mr. Cosby should, and will be held accountable for what he's done."

He said women reporting abuse "should be encouraged and not joked about."

Abbi and Ilana are back, y'all, and we couldn't be happier. "Broad City" returned for its second season on Wednesday night with another day of the girls' crazy, stoned New York City adventures. HuffPost Entertainment editors Jessica Goodman and Erin Whitney discuss the hilarious season premiere (which was admittedly just as funny on the second and third watch).

Spoiler alert if you haven't seen "Broad City" Season 2, Episode 1, "In Heat."

Jessica Goodman: Erin! All I want to do at this very moment is talk about "Broad City" Season 2, because it's back. Baby, it's back! After months without pussy weed, Abbi and Ilana are here to tell us how to live (and, uh, not live) out cool, casual 20-something lives in New York. Where do we even start?

Erin Whitney: I think the only place to start is on the train (but is it the back or the front?). Every New Yorker, unless they're incredibly lucky, has had that scarring moment where the elation over an empty train car quickly turns into the worst decision of your life. Thanks, human excrement! And that heat! Good god, watching this in January almost made me want to switch places (but like, minus the swamp ass).

Goodman: Bingo. Not to get all "OMG New York is another character in this show!" but New York is definitely another character in this show. Critics talked about that a lot in reviews of the first season, and I'm glad to see it holds over. Like, Abbi getting her air conditioner stolen right outside Bed, Bath and Beyond on Sixth Ave? Classic. That friend with AC suddenly becomes the most popular person you know between May and September.

What did you think about Seth Rogen's cameo as Male Stacy?

Whitney: Love Male Stacy. Seth Rogen is kind of the perfect casting for the gross, weirdo, charming type that plays off of Abbi's awkward humor. And he can also totally own up to a sweat-smiley tee. But we know Abbi can do better, although hopefully she avoids the the sex offender club from now on. What'd you think of Rogen?

Also, we have to talk about stoned Phil of the Future.

Goodman: Phil of the Future! That's who that was. I was trying to place him for a solid minute. Back to Seth. It's so interesting seeing him in this role, and for some reason I saw him as the best guy Abbi's been with (aside from hot neighbor Jeremy, but more on that never). I just kept viewing him as "Seth Rogen, a great 'Broad City' guest star" instead of Male Stacy. He made her fajitas! He was just as sweaty as she was! She wasn't the butt of the joke! Until ...

We should probably get to the idea that Abbi "raped" him, though. Male Stacey passes out from heat exhaustion -- don't blame him -- and when Abbi tells Ilana what happened, this is their conversation:

Ilana: So to clarify, you raped him.
Abbi: No, he passed out from the heat he seriously wanted it.
Ilana: That is literally what "they" say.
Abbi: Yeah but I really mean it.
Ilana: So do they. Dude, did you finish?
Abbi: OMG dude, I raped him. I raped Male Stacy. I'm a monster. I need an air conditioner immediately.

What do we make of this? It's the second mention of rape culture -- Ilana brings it up at Lincoln's birthday dinner -- and here, I'm in that camp of "Is it okay to laugh?" It's a nuanced portrayal of an extremely confusing sexual encounter.

Whitney: And also, Ilana saying with a laugh near the end, "You're a sex offender, at worst. Welcome to the club. It's not that hard to get into." The fun they're poking at rape culture is light and jokey, but it's hard to ignore the relevance of Hannibal Buress' cameo in the dinner scene. Although, this was likely unplanned, since the episode was probably written and shot before Buress' Bill Cosby rape stand-up bit went viral last November.

Of course, if you're attuned to the humor of "Broad City," it's hard not to laugh (whether you think it's okay or not). But it isn't just a quick joke; it continues at least four separate times throughout the episode and with such goofy insouciance. I can't help but think of the "Louie" rape episode from last year with Abbi and Ilana's conversation. Taking this serious and always relevant topic to hash out not only the blurred lines of who's at fault, but what defines rape ("Did you finish?"), gender roles and maybe even mocking the extent we as critics and viewers dissect these storylines. Louis C.K. played with this as well with his episode, stirring a reaction and then flipping it on us in a later episode. But then again, I'm going into crazy analytical mode and we're talking about "Broad City." Where's your head at with this, Jess?

Goodman: Oh, yeah, these jokes were clearly there to make a point about Cosby and rape culture, but I don't think we need to make light of analyzing a show like "Broad City" so closely. It's exciting that a show can be so smart and dumb at the same time, touch all my funny bones and comment profoundly on what it's like to be a young woman.

Getting back to some of the other parts of the episode: We're starting to see more of Ilana and Lincoln's relationship, which has always been such a high (literally) point for me. The Al Dente Dentist! Brilliant! She knows nothing about him! They met in a Foot Locker! It's all so sweet and stupid, just like a real New York relationship. I'm shipping hard for these two.

Whitney: Totally agree. I love Lincoln and Ilana and how completely chill they're relationship is. It does sort of suck that Abbi only gets guys like Male Stacy, but then again I can totally empathize with her intimate love for Bed, Bath and Beyond. Aimlessly home shopping pretty much fills the relationship void, right?

Also, the fact that Abbi not only has a giant Oprah poster over her bed (looking down on her like a deity) but also an Oprah tattoo is maybe the greatest thing ever. I imagine she has a What Would Oprah Do? bracelet too. And another highlight for me: Kumail Nanjani's cameo and the "Your dad should've pulled out" line. Amazing. Can we get that on a T-shirt, please?

Goodman: I'd buy that shirt. Let's wrap this bad boy up: Bravo to the Season 2 premiere, which ended by having Stacy and Abbi yell at and shame a kitten. Only on "Broad City."

"Broad City" airs Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. Or very violently. Whichever.

This being "American Horror Story," we know what to expect as we near the end of a season: lots of kill-offs, a touch of torture, and quick tie-offs of existing storylines. As I wrote in last week's recap, "AHS: Freak Show" is a series of vignettes, not necessarily sensical as a whole. Neil Patrick Harris' Chester character -- the latest vignette -- is (hopefully) the last "new" one to walk into the big tent, as his story wraps up after a two-episode arc.

It was fun while it lasted, and we got an enjoyable performance out of Harris. Chester also served the purpose of killing off Maggie (seriously, how jaw-droppingly disgusting was it when he pulled the box apart and all the guts were there?), taking Bette and Dot's virginity, and giving Jamie Brewer an awesome, brief role as the demented puppet, Marjorie. Otherwise he was a distraction from the main plot (I'm not even sure what the main plot is anymore), which fizzled to an almost dead stop as Dandy was relegated to ... his house, I guess.

That was nice this episode: Dandy being back. Well, sorta. It's a shame he wasn't around very much recently, because the show absolutely lights up whenever Finn Wittrock is on screen. His earnest, over-the-top delivery makes it impossible to take your eyes off of him. He succeeds in making Bette and Dot leave Chester -- ultimately saving their lives -- by showing them P.I. files about his murderous past. Speaking of "murderous," how has Dandy suddenly stopped killing? Didn't he have an insatiable lust for it two episodes ago? Perhaps he's been holding it in and will go on some sort of murderous rampage in the finale. But that doesn't seem like the most satisfying ending.

My colleague asked me how I think this is going to wrap up. I definitely don't think Dandy will emerge the victor here. He's done far too many horrifying things to get off scot-free in the end. My prediction is Jimmy will kill Dandy with his new hands, and then take over the freak show with Bette and Dot. Now there's some sex that'll be convincingly good. I mean, really, they've been teasing us with the prospect of Jimmy-Bette-Dot sex since the beginning of the season. C'mon Murphy & Co., don't let us down! Also, I think the viewers probably want one more Evan Peters man bum sighting before the season signs off.

As for the rest of the freaks, it's anyone's guess. I'd bet that several get killed off in the finale; and if I had to predict who, I would bet Desiree (who, in this episode, suddenly became the biggest Ethel supporter around, and has recently gotten a sharper edge to her behaviour), Seal Boy (we kinda care about him), and maybe Meryl Streep, Jr. I do hope Toulouse makes it through, though. I've grown attached to him now.

Did anyone else have "Coven" flashbacks when Danny Huston walked into the big tent? I remembered all the scenes with The Axeman and Fiona Goode, and when Lange and Huston were back acting lustily towards each other, I felt the same way I did during "Coven": bored. I don't know what it is with their love stories, but they just don't do it for me. And Massimo's reasoning as to why he can't love her -- because he was tortured and he "has no soul" -- is just lame and contrived. They really should have just let him come back, give Jimmy his awesome new hands, and depart a mysterious stranger. There was no need for the weird existential romantic talk. Chop, chop, Geppetto.

Despite all of that, I will say seeing a young Hans Gruber/Arthur Alden was worth the price of admission when it came to Massimo. Not only did "AHS" cast a young Gruber perfectly (I actually wondered if they CGIed James Cromwell. They may have, I don't know), but it was neat to see how the insane physician fit into the big picture. We can see his torturing days started early.

Oh, and what they did to Stanley. Poor Stanley. No, you know what? Good. If anyone deserves to spend the rest of their days among freaks as a human chicken, it's Stanley. Dandy finding him in the cage and beaming that huge smile at his discovery was a favourite scene of mine. Revenge is something "AHS" does well, in the process often sacrificing fluid plot, characterization, and logic. But this wouldn't be "Freak Show" if it was the same as any other TV show, right?

Can't wait to see how this show ends. I've got my ticket for the big top. See you next week!

Freak Of The Week: Does Marjorie count as a freak? If not, I'm still counting her. She had some great lines tonight ("That'll pack 'em in, Chester!") and listening to Brewer laugh and stare evilly to the side made my night.

Random Thoughts:
  • Desiree: "Steal her jewelry. Then bury the bitch."

  • The scene where Jimmy yells at Elsa "I have no hands!!!" was well-done. Props to Evan Peters for consistently nailing his characters' struggles throughout this entire series. His characters gets the brunt of the worst treatment, and yet he arguably manages to keep a believable maintenance of each of his roles, which is more than I can say for others.

  • Interesting that both Dandy and Bette and Dot killed their mothers. It could be some twisted common ground for them, but as I said earlier, I think this pairing ... er ... trio is kaput.

  • I need a GIF of Desiree yelling "Ethellllllllll!" and then chugging that booze. Internet, help me.

  • Whenever thunder and lightning starts off an episode, folks, you know something baaaad is going to happen.

  • Meryl Streep, Jr. has totally won me over this season. I was on the fence before, but now I think she's awesome. I hope it's not just the tattooed and freakish version of her that I enjoy, because when we go to the 1950s next season (which I'm basing loosely on that little clue dropped online), things will be considerably less racy. Or maybe not -- this is Murphy & Co. we're talking about.

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" airs on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. EST on FX and FX Canada.

Ross Marquand has been announced the newest addition to the cast of "The Walking Dead." The actor will join as a series regular sometime in the latter half of Season 5, which begins in February. The announcement leaves many viewers wondering two questions: (1) What character will this guy play? (2) Who is this guy? Read on for six key things to know.

1. He is speculated to play the "very prominent gay character from the comics" creator Robert Kirkman teased was coming back in December.
Though Marquand's role has not been announced, fans are theorizing that he will play Aaron, a gay character from the comics that many believe Kirkman was referring to with his comment. The creator mentioned the introduction of a new character in an episode of "The Talking Dead," while finally revealing Daryl Dixon's sexuality.

"Daryl Dixon is actually straight," he said. "But coming back in our next half of the season we are gonna be introducing a very prominent gay character from the comics that’ll be debuting."

2. He's had acclaimed performances in a variety of films.
The actor first proved himself with roles in films including "Woodshop," "A Lonely Place for Dying," and "The Congregation."

3. He has some serious comedy chops.
Though he's joining one of the most buzzed about dramas, Marquand has showcased his comedic skills -- particularly impressions -- in a bunch of YouTube videos. Below is viral Toasty TV video "House of Thrones" -- a "House of Cards" and "Game of Thrones" fusion -- in which the actor plays Frank Underwood. You can see more of Marquand's work at his website.

4. He is super good at voice acting.
Marquand played Han Solo on an episode of "Phineas and Ferb."

5. He balances his two sets of skills in original SoulPancake web series, "The Impression Guys."
In "The Impression Guys," Marquand plays a talented voice impressionist who embarks on a 12-step program to become a serious dramatic actor.

6. He played Paul Newman on "Mad Men"
In Mad Men Season 6 episode "The Flood," Paul Newman is famously the keynote speaker at an advertising awards dinner that the SCDP and CGP employees attend. Marquand plays that Paul Newman. STREET. CRED.

"The Walking Dead" Season 5 returns Feb. 8 at 9pm EST on AMC.

Petition Calls For Recast Of Scarlett Johansson's Role In 'Ghost In The Shell'

A recent petition is calling for Scarlett Johansson's role in "Ghost in the Shell" to be recast on the grounds of whitewashing.

Earlier this month, Variety reported that Johansson had signed on to star in DreamWorks' big-screen adaptation of the anime adventure, focusing on the story of a covert operations unit in the Japanese National Public Safety Commission and following the lead protagonist, Major Motoko Kusanagi.

While the 30-year-old certainly has had box office success starring in action films, like Marvel's "Avengers" series and "Lucy," after the announcement was made critics called the casting "whitewashing" due to the comic's Japanese origins.

Now, there is a Care2 petition requesting DreamWorks consider recasting the role.

"What concerns me is the fact that minority actors are so rarely given opportunities in big-budget leading roles,” petition author Julie Rodriguez said in a press release sent to The Huffington Post. “It's a self-defeating cycle: Hollywood insists viewers won't be drawn unknown minority actors, but they're never given the chance to break out of a narrow set of background roles to prove themselves. 'Ghost in the Shell' could have been a perfect opportunity to buck this trend, but instead promising actresses are being passed over."

The petition has a goal of 14,000 signatures and has already collected more than 13,000.

Others have voiced issue with the fact that an Asian-American actress was not chosen. Marissa Lee, co-founder of the entertainment equality group Racebending, wrote a blog post in response to DreamWorks' decision, explaining that it's a missed opportunity for inclusive representation.

"Ultimately, 'Ghost in the Shell' is a story about what makes us human. Having access to powerful media representation is key for minorities to be seen as human. As a successful white actress, Scarlett Johansson has been privileged to play powerful women characters in action films. 'Ghost in the Shell' was a chance for an actress of Asian descent to have that same opportunity."

DreamWorks had no comment when contacted by The Huffington Post.

5 Reasons Why 'Selma' Is More Than Just A Film

I honestly don't have any words to describe the effect that Selma has had on me. Before the film had even started, I was holding back tears. And whenever I cry during movies, I'm able to stop by telling myself that it's just a movie.

But I couldn't do that with Selma. I couldn't lie to myself, because I know that it's more than a film.

Selma is ours.

And I'll give you five reasons why:

1. The director:
Okay, Ava DuVernay, the director of Selma, is amazing. She's glorious. She's fantabulous. I'm honestly grateful to her, and in awe of her talent. Not only is she an amazing storyteller, but also she is the first black female director to be nominated for Golden Globe.

It's insane. I'm crossing my fingers, not only for the Golden Globes, but for the Oscars as well.

2. Glory:
John Legend and Common collaborated on "Glory," a song on the film's soundtrack. Not only is the song just plain awesome, but it ties the events of today with those featured in the film with lyrics like "That's why Rosa sat on the bus! That's why we walk through Ferguson with our hands up!"

3. It's about the people:
Selma isn't a documentary about Martin Luther King Jr. It's called Selma because of the famous "Bloody Sunday" march on March 7, 1965, in Selma, Alabama. Six hundred marchers gathered and marched to Montgomery, facing the threat of violent police. A second march was held, where Dr. King called for civil rights supporters to join him.

The film doesn't just focus on Martin Luther King Jr. It's about the town. It's about the people, their bravery and selflessness. It's about their coming together and fighting for what they believed in: justice for each other.

4. What's going on now:
One of the aspects of this film that I continue to hear people comment on is how it relates to the events of today. Protests have been occurring, similar to the ones featured in the film. Because of what has been going on, it was easier to feel like the events of the past were connecting with those of the present. It felt like the film gave insight as to what people of color are dealing with today.

5. The effect it can have on its audience:
Honestly, I didn't think that I was going to be able to see Selma right away. But because of 27 AWESOME African-American leaders in the NYC business community, I got to see it for free. Crazy, right?

The fact that those people came together to make sure that young people like me would be able to see the film makes my heart swell. It a strange way, it reminds me of the community expressed in the film. The people in Selma came together for the greater good, just like the leaders from the business community came together to make this possible.

Plus, think about the effect that this could have on young people. Film can express so many different ideas, and I think that many of the young people who have a chance to see this film will walk out of the theater with new ideas.

I wanted to write about this amazing, beautiful film because telling people about it just isn't enough. I believe that Selma is a major moment in cinematic history, not just because of the achievements that it has had, but because of the effect it has had on its audience. I hope that everyone is able to see it.

To Ava DuVernay, Oprah, David Oyelowo:

Thank you. Thank you.

(Cue more of my tears.)

Lena Dunham: 'I Don't Care What Conservative White Men Think About Me'

If conservative white men have a problem with Lena Dunham, she's not to worried about it.

While chatting with Bill Simmons on "The B.S. Report" this week, Dunham addressed the backlash she received over a segment of her memoir, Not That Kind Of Girl, in which she described how at age 7 she "carefully spread open" her 1-year-old sister's vagina.

“I grew up … in a world where the complexity of human sexuality was openly discussed," The "Girls" creator and star told Simmons, adding, “I don’t care what conservative white men think about me, but I do care if anything I write is painful for survivors of sexual abuse, if anything I write is painful for other feminists.”

When the conservative website Truth Revolt called Dunham's actions sexual abuse in October, she immediately took to Twitter to respond to the backlash.
