Sony Hires Olivia Pope Inspiration Judy Smith To Handle 'Interview' Runoff

0
After the premiere of "The Interview" was canceled, Sony received serious criticism from moviegoers, Hollywood's hottest names and even President Obama. With all eyes on them, Sony did the only logical thing: hire Olivia Pope. At least, they hired Judy Smith, the inspiration behind Kerry Washington's "Scandal" lead, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hired to assist Sony with the ensuing aftermath of "The Interview" and the hack, Smith previously served as President George H.W. Bush's deputy press secretary and started her own crisis management firm, Smith & Company. Smith has worked with high-profile clients like Monica Lewinsky, Wesley Snipes and Michael Vick.

Following President Obama's remarks, Sony released a statement on Friday, explaining that much of the decision was in the hands of theater owners:

Sony Pictures Entertainment is and always has been strongly committed to the First Amendment. For more than three weeks, despite brutal intrusions into our company and our employees’ personal lives, we maintained our focus on one goal: getting the film "The Interview" released. Free expression should never be suppressed by threats and extortion.

The decision not to move forward with the December 25 theatrical release of "The Interview" was made as a result of the majority of the nation’s theater owners choosing not to screen the film. This was their decision.

Let us be clear – the only decision that we have made with respect to release of the film was not to release it on Christmas Day in theaters, after the theater owners declined to show it. Without theaters, we could not release it in the theaters on Christmas Day. We had no choice. After that decision, we immediately began actively surveying alternatives to enable us to release the movie on a different platform. It is still our hope that anyone who wants to see this movie will get the opportunity to do so.

Kim Kardashian's Messy Instagram Photo Proves The Struggle Is Real

Kim Kardashian may have recently lost around 1.3 million Instagram followers thanks to the social network's big site cleanup, but the star has way more important things to deal with right now: namely, figuring out what to wear.

On Saturday, Kardashian posted a messy photo of herself with the caption, "yesterday...trying to pick out an outfit struggle." It appears her daughter North is having some trouble finding the perfect clothes, too:

For Kardashian, the struggle seems to be paying off. Not only did the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star capture the adorable mother and daughter moment above, but her style choices have consistently been making headlines. And we're guessing her rabbit fur-lined heels make losing all those followers a lot more comfortable.

Rachel McAdams is going back to her brunette roots.

The "Mean Girls" star made fans do a double-take when she debuted her ombre hair at LAX on Friday. McAdams' new locks were dyed a dark brunette shade at her roots, with golden blond strands at the bottom:

The 36-year-old has been known to experiment with her hair, and has dyed it everything from red to blonde to pink. Perhaps McAdams' hair makeover has something to do with her new role in HBO's "True Detective." Or maybe the natural brunette just missed her old look.

Kristen Wiig Crashes Amy Adams' 'SNL' Monologue Again

Christmas came early for "SNL" fans during the holiday episode last night.

Amy Adams treated the audience to an adorable rendition of "We Need A Little Christmas" before former "SNL" cast member Kristen Wiig crashed the monologue -- or as Wiig put it, "showed up uninvited." Adams was sure to remind Wiig that this wasn't the first time the "Bridesmaids" star got in on the action while Adams played host. Back in 2008, the duo performed "What Is This Feeling?" from the Broadway show "Wicked." This time was not much different, aside from the holiday twist, as the two belted out the wrong lyrics to Christmas carols together. Watch the full clip above.

Lance Bass And Michael Turchin Officially Tie The Knot

Lance Bass and Michael Turchin are officially married!

Turchin and the former NSYNC member tied the knot Saturday night at the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, according to E! Online. The ceremony was officiated by actresses Jamie-Lynn Sigler and JoAnna Garcia Swisher, and Bass' close friends and former bandmates Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and JC Chasez were all in attendance.

"The whole wedding itself is very classy, you know. We wanted to plan something that could last for 100 years," Bass told E! "When we show our grandchildren this amazing tape of our wedding, the best wedding video ever, I want them to be able to look at this and be like, 'Wow, that stood the test of time.' So we're using a lot of elements in the wedding that are classy, and one of those is definitely our first dance. The song we chose is a song that lasts forever, something that is very special to us."

The couple has been dating since December 2011. Bass proposed to Turchin, a painter and actor, last August in New Orleans.

"New Orleans is my favorite city in the world," Bass explained earlier this year in a special edition of his SiriusXM radio show, "Dirty Pop with Lance Bass." "I’ve been coming here my whole life. I was born just across the border here [in Laurel, Mississippi] … and Turkey also has roots here."

"I got down on one knee and I proposed," Bass went on, "right in front of Jackson Square, my favorite place."

One Direction Slows It Down For Their Third 'SNL' Appearance

When One Direction first took the 'SNL' stage last night, the only high-energy aspect was the shrill shrieks from fans in the audience. The British boy band opted to open with a softer ballad, "Night Changes," off their latest album, "Four." Judging from the crowd, the five guys did not disappoint. Oh, and Harry Styles wore a hat again, so that was a big deal.

For their second song, the pop stars switched gears for a more upbeat track, "Ready To Run." This marked the first time One Direction performed the song live, and the night marked the band's third year in a row performing on "Saturday Night Live."

And the 1D takeover didn't end there: the group stopped by the "Girlfriends Talk Show" skit and rendered Aidy Bryant's character speechless before starting an impromptu dance party:

The big reveal!

Kourtney Kardashian welcomed her third child, a baby boy, with longtime boyfriend Scott Disick on Dec. 13., and it looks like the couple has decided on a name for their son. The reality star took to her Instagram account to share a sweet shot of her holding hands with the newborn, and revealed his name in the caption:

Madly in love with my little Reign Aston Disick.

A photo posted by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash) on

"Madly in love with my little Reign Aston Disick," she wrote.

Kourtney Kardashian is quite the trendsetter when it comes to baby names. When she gave birth to her son Mason in 2009, the name was ranked at #34 on the list of most popular baby names for boys in the U.S. In 2013, according to Nameberry, Mason shot up to #4. Similarly, when daughter Penelope was born in 2012, it did not crack the top 100 most popular baby names for girls that year, but in 2013, Penelope came in at #56. So, those are either two big coincidences, or America really is trying to keep up with the Kardashians.

LONDON (AP) — Entertainer Elton John and longtime mate David Furnish officially married Sunday on the ninth anniversary of the day they entered into a civil partnership.

The couple converted their civil bond under new laws implemented in England earlier this year that allow same-sex marriages.

On Sunday the couple posted an Instagram picture of themselves preparing to sign official documents. "That's the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony!" they wrote.

John and Furnish planned a celebration at their estate near Windsor Castle west of London. An A-list crowd is expected — even if the festivities are likely to be much more sedate than the parties in John's hell-raising rock 'n' roll days.

The singer — known for an impressive string of hits dating back decades — promised to post pictures of the festivities to fans around the world.

The nuptials came as no surprise: John had tweeted about his plans earlier in the week, and earlier in the year had praised England for embracing same-sex marriage. He said there had been a remarkable change in a country where homosexual acts had long been deemed criminal offenses.

John said the wedding would be a joyous occasion shared with the couple's two sons, Zachary and Elijah.

The menu was traditional and posh, featuring wild mushroom soup with truffle cream, beef short rib with caramelized onion pie and warm chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream for dessert, according to a photo of the menu posted by Brooklyn Beckham, son of soccer start David Beckham and designer Victoria Beckham.

The champagne was Laurent-Perrier.

In his post, Brooklyn Beckham offered congratulations to "Uncle Elton and Uncle David."

John said earlier this year that he and Furnish planned to take advantage of the changes to the law, even though they already had a civil bond recognized by the courts.

"We shouldn't just say, 'Oh well, we have a civil partnership, we're not going to bother to get married," he said.

John and Furnish met in 1993. Both have been active in a number of charities, with John focusing on efforts to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS.

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 in recognition of his charitable works. On Sunday the couple posted an Instagram picture of themselves preparing to sign official documents. "That's the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony!" they wrote.

Q-Tip Offers Iggy Azalea A Hip Hop History Lesson, T.I. & Azealia Banks Respond

A brewing battle between Iggy Azalea and fellow industry artists has found the Australian-born rapper in hot water, yet again.

Following a series of tweets responding to rapper Azealia Banks candid Hot 97 interview where she expressed her much-publicized issues with Iggy, "hacktavist" group Anonymous threatened to release “snapshots” from an alleged sex tape featuring the chart-topper if she didn’t issue an apology for her comments to Banks.

As if that wasn’t enough, veteran MC-musician Q-Tip took to his personal Twitter account on Saturday to give Iggy, and his more than 700,000 followers, a history lesson on the origins of Hip Hop and its connection to sociopolitical movements. Here's what he wrote:

"HipHop is a artistic and socio-political movement/culture that sprang from the disparate ghettos of NY in the early 70's Coming off the heels of the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT and approaching the end of the Vietnam war it was a crossroads 4 America specially for blacks in the US our neighborhoods were PROLIFERATED w/a rush of HEROINE."

"Our school systems here in NY dungeon traps with light for learning… blk men some of whom didn't return from tours of duty n the ones who did came w/war baggage (agent orange, addiction, ect..)… these men had families but due to these events and throw into the mix the public emasculation… they proved to be handicapped parents. The surrogate parents? The STREETS… the streets of gangs, crimes, and the hustlers coddled us and swept us up."

"But! Being a spirited, rhythmic & expressive people music art dance outlined our existence… it proved a way for us to exhault to scream to dance to laugh and find OUR VOICE… we weren't at the time skilled musicians as kids. We had records, turntables, ideas and INGENUITY being natural chemist we took from whatever was availed to us and we created something mighty and special."

"We cut breakbeats back n forth we took a hybrid of Jamaican toasting along w/ radio jock rap( hank Spann, Gary Byrd, ect.) and we put our rap down.. it was a neighborhood thing really. Black and Latino Kids were carving out their space and it became infectious… eventually Keith Cowboy coined the phrase hiphop . Yrs later the first rap record was recorded and now we r moving."

"But during these strides this country still had the monster of racism and racial insensitivity breathing and ruling… believe it or not young black n Latino lives specifically weren't acknowledged in mainstream American culture unless Of course.. the convo was abt gangs , being criminals or uneducated. And hey! Like I stated early our families were rushed our schools sucked and we were left to put devices to survive… but HIPHOP showed that we had DEPTH, fire, and BRILLANCE… the music was undeniable! It moved from NY N became national and even GLOBAL."

"Hiphop now was FOR EVERYBODY!! All of those who cld relate to the roots, the spirit, the history, the energy.. It reached YOU… it touched your spirit n took u up. We magnetized you! That's what BRILLANCE does… now u are fulfilling your dreams … BUT! you have to take into account the HISTORY as you move underneath the banner of hiphop. As I said before… hiphop is fun it's vile it's dance it's traditional it's light hearted but 1 thing it can never detach itself from is being a SOCIO-Political movement."

"U may ask why … Well once you are born black your existence I believe is joined with socio-political epitaph and philos based on the tangled and treacherous history SLAVERY alone this is the case it never leaves our conversation… Ever. WeAther in our universities our dinner tables our studios or jail cells… the effects still resononates with us. It hurts… We get emotional and angry and melancholy… did u know president Clinton was the ONLY PRESIDENT to apologize for it? did u know that remnants of slavery exist today thru white privilege? When certain "niceties" r extended your way because of how u look? Isn't that crazy?"

"I say this 2 say u are a hiphop artist who has the right 2 express herself however she wishes… this is not a chastisement this is not admonishment at ALL this is just one artist reaching to another hoping to spark insight into the field you r in. I say this in the spirit of a hopeful healthy dialogue that maybe one day we can continue… I've been on twitter a long time and this will probably be my last series of tweets pretty much but I'm Kool with it as long as I got to share this w u. Zzzzzzz's up! Peace!"

Following Q-Tip's 40-plus tweets, Iggy’s label boss, T.I. also decided to jump in to share his thoughts by tweeting a followup response.

And, as expected, Azealia Banks - who has previously had a public feud with T.I. before, too -- responded to the rapper's remarks.

'Game Of Thrones' Reveals First Official Footage Of The Cast From Season 5

HBO had previously released short nine-second snippets from Season 5 of "Game of Thrones." But finally the network gave fans a deeper look in the network's annual year-end recap. The video offers a glimpse of a not-so-happy Cersei, a bearded Tyrion, and Jon Snow with Olly and Arya (likely arriving in Braavos). It's not much, but it's a bit more than the speed-of-light teasers that HBO has been sending fans sporadically.

The video also features a peek at Hugh Laurie's upcoming cameo on "Veep," Jessa slapping Hannah in Season 4 of "Girls" and rain-soaked Adam. There's also a first look at Jonathan Nolan and J.J. Abrams' new sci-fi show, "Westworld," and Jack Black's dark comedy "The Brink." Who's excited for 2015?

Kourtney, Khloe And Scott Take A Trip Down Memory Lane

Sunday night's episode of "Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons" had so much going on, yet nothing at the same time. Kourtney and Scott became religious and took a trip down memory lane, while Khloe established the Kappa Alpha Dash sorority house. Remember Dash? LOL. That's why we're all here, "taking" the Hamptons.

At the beginning of the episode, Kourtney is nagging Scott about visiting his parents' old house and dealing with his grief in a way that she sees fit. Scott is not having it and storms off in a fit of rage. I totally get where Scott is coming from. What I don't understand, though, is whether or not Kourtney is actually this heartless and emotionally staid IRL, or if it is just for the show. It's so uncomfortable.

Scott's all like, "I feel like you keep pushing me, and I don't know why you're trying to do this. It's hard for me to think about going over there." And Kourtney's all like:

Then, as Kourtney and Scott are taking a drive around Scott's old neighborhood, Kourtney brutally rejects two fans who want to take a selfie with her and Scott. It was so sad. They were so excited and then they were so sad. My heart hurt for them. Scott calls Kourtney a "nasty *bleep*" which was also sad. It was a weird drive.
kkth

Scott then comes to Kourtney's bedside and admits that he wants to go back to Los Angeles. On the one hand, I was pleased that someone is finally admitting that they are having a crappy time in the Hamptons, but on the other hand, what about the children? What about Mason, Penelope and unborn Reign? (Side note: I love the name Reign. Good job, Kourtney!) Scott is just going to leave his kids and his pregnant girlfriend high and dry because he needs to go back to the job that he doesn't have?
kkth
But aren't you making money by filming this show? I don't understand.

Then, Khloe flies out Malika and Durrani, two Dash transplants, to run things at the Hamptons pop up store. Khloe sets the two ladies up in a house, thus establishing the Kappa Alpha Dash sorority house. The qualifications to join are pretty simple.
kkthdash

KAD (the sorority that is the Dash house) then gets a new member when Bruce Jenner calls in a favor. Ugh, nepotism, but we gotta accept her, she's a legacy!
kkthcaroline

It's fine though because Caroline is actually pretty cool and she used to have pink hair! And her parents worked on McCain's campaign ... like, okay, are you going to pick up that name you just dropped or are you just going to leave it there? We're gonna leave it there? Okay.

Pledgemaster Kourtney decides to pluck new pledge Caroline from the Dash store because she doesn't want the customers to feel stared at. She tasks Caroline with chores around the house -- buying $5 worth of lemonade from Mason's stand, cleaning Scott's boat and shredding important papers.
kkthpapers

Let's talk about those papers for a second, though. What do you think they contained? Important and confidential matters concerning the Dash sisterhood? Documents pertaining to dirty rushing? HAZING?!

Just kidding, we were all collectively hazed when we had to see French Montana emerge from Khloe's bedroom wearing nothing but a t-shirt around his waist. And then we were further hazed when we had to attempt to decipher his mumbles. Luckily, E! hooked us up with some closed captioning. Thank you for that, producers.

The episode culminated with a glorious trip to Fire Island. We saw Scott's grandmother's old house, and we got a glimpse of the Pines. The trip was super fun and nostalgic and made Scott realize that he wants to stay in the Hamptons with his family and keep making memories. Kourtney and Scott even held hands!

Though that was all good and plenty, the real highlight of their day trip to Fire Island was THIS moment:

Nothing like some good self-deprecation to cap off a mediocre episode of "Kourtney and Khloe Take the Hamptons."

Oh and while they were on the ferry, Khloe quoted her own bad self. "The wind you guys. Is this necessary?" Yes! So meta. If you don't recall what that's from, shame on you. It's from the original opening of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" !!!

Kim even employed it last week on her Instagram:

'SNL' Spoofs 'Love Actually' In Cut Sketch

Why watch "Love Actually" when you can watch a pretty icky spoof featuring Pete Davidson professing his love to Amy Adams? In an "Saturday Night Live" sketch, reportedly cut for time, the two parody the most famous scene in "Love Actually," in which Andrew Lincoln uses cue cards to express his feelings for Keira Knightley. (Tragically, she's married to his best friend because the world is a cruel, cruel place.)

In this version, Davidson tells Adams he loves ham and hot dogs, and used to watch her through a hole in the women's locker room. "To me, you are perfect," says no one.
