Feed The Nostalgic Beast Inside With These Shrines To Your Favorite 90s Idols

Michelle Guintu's upcoming exhibition is titled "Obsession" and it's not hard to see why. The artists craft sharp-edged, multimedia shrines to classic hip hop artists, pop stars and cult film characters. For Guintu, nostalgia isn't an ironic throwback but an intense fervor, and her artworks don't just namedrop, they deify.

"I choose subjects that I'm super familiar with and have a lot to do with my childhood," Guintu explained to The Huffington Post. "I guess I'm attracted to those things because I love those feelings I had growing up. Like when I listen to or watch something I get that deep heart-wrenching feeling sometimes; the kind of feeling where your eyes are blank because your eyeballs are nesting in that specific memory. Not to sound weird but sometimes it makes me wanna cry. I mean who doesn't like that nostalgic feeling? I just feel it more than the average person."

missy

Lucky for us, Guintu has good taste. Her subjects include '90s royalty like Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, TLC and Lil Kim. There are also some '80s divas in the mix like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. Her neon-tinged, pop-influenced style has been described as "kindercore" -- yes, that's part kindergarden, part hardcore for the uninitiated. We suppose if a badass art prodigy had a soft spot for N.W.A. this is what she'd create during craft time.

While a lot of Guintu's works are painted on canvas, some are composed of a motley jumble of media, from fabric to paper mache, effectively blurring the line between art and craft. "I hope that people can see I'm not just a painter but I can work 2D and 3D and still receive that same nostalgic feeling," said Guintu. "Also, that art doesn't have to be large-scale or look expensive to be rad and legit."

Get it girl.

Guintu's upcoming exhibition "Obsession" runs from December 13th, 2014 until January 11th, 2015 at New Image Art Gallery in Los Angeles.

Both the dark side and the light got its fill of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on Friday, as the film's first trailer pinged around the internet with speed comparable to hyperdrive. Much was revealed in the first 88-seconds of footage from J.J. Abrams' film, including first looks at new cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and, maybe, Adam Driver. Ahead, the six most important GIFs from "The Force Awakens" trailer.

John Boyega as a Stormtrooper

It has been rumored since July that Boyega plays a Stormtrooper who winds up abandoning his post in "The Force Awakens." Boyega's first appearance in the trailer all but confirms his employment status -- unless he's just dressed up like a Stormtrooper to fool the Empire, a la Luke and Han in "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope."

It's just cute.

Daisy Ridley as Leia on Endor Han & Leia's daughter?

It hasn't been confirmed that newcomer Daisy Ridley plays the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia in "The Force Awakens," but her first appearance in the new trailer certainly gives off a Leia vibe.

Oscar Isaac doing things inside an X-Wing

Why is this relevant? Because according to Latino Review, Isaac's unnamed character was supposedly the new owner of the Millennium Falcon.

Is this Adam Driver with the evil-looking lightsaber?

Driver has long been rumored to play the villain in "The Force Awakens," and this kind of looks like his back? Maybe? Regardless, whoever it is has a strong lightsaber game.

Roberto Gómez Bolaños, Better Known As Chespirito, Dead At 85

Roberto Gómez Bolaños -- better known among his fans as “Chespirito” -- died on Friday in Cancún, the Mexican news media reports. He was 85.

Mexican broadcaster Televisa, for whom Gómez Bolaños worked, first reported the news. The cause of death had yet to be disclosed at the time of writing.

A writer, actor and producer for television, film and theater, Gómez Bolaños was perhaps best known as the star of “El Chavo del Ocho” and “El Chapulín Colorado” -- television shows broadcasted across Latin America. Aimed at children yet enjoyed by adults, the shows earned a status across the region’s pop culture something akin to “The Simpsons” in the United States.

The cultural comparison, however, doesn’t capture how overwhelmingly popular Gómez Bolaños’ creation became. More than 111 million viewers continue to tune into “El Chavo del Ocho,” which first aired in 1971, on a daily basis. That figure that tops the number of viewers who watched the Super Bowl in 2013 -- let alone the 33.6 million viewers “The Simpsons” reeled in at its peak in 1990.

Born in Mexico City on Feb. 21, 1929, Gómez Bolaños originally studied engineering. But instead he launched an entertainment career when he answered a newspaper ad announcing a television and radio apprenticeship at an advertising agency, according to The Associated Press.

More from The Associated Press:

His two most famous characters were "El Chavo del Ocho," who lived in the homes of Latin America and beyond with his barrel, freckles, striped shirt and frayed cap, and the naive superhero "El Chapulin Colorado," or "The Crimson Grasshopper." His morning show was a staple for preschoolers, much like "Captain Kangaroo" in the United States.

He warmed the hearts of millions with a clean comedy style far removed from the sexual innuendo and obscenity-laced jokes popular today. In a career that started in the 1950s, he wrote hundreds of television episodes, 20 films and theater productions that drew record-breaking audiences.

His prolific output earned him the nickname "Chespirito." It came from the Spanish phonetic pronunciation of Shakespeare — "Chespir" — combined with "ito," a diminutive commonly used in Mexico that seemed natural for Gomez Bolanos because of his short stature.

"Nicknames are the most essential in life, more valuable than names," the actor said in 2011.

...

Talented both on the screen and behind it, he achieved smashing success in 1970 with the creation of "Chespirito," a television show that included segments about "The Crimson Grasshopper."

The goofy superhero dressed in a red bodysuit and hood with antennae that helped him detect danger miles away. He completed the outfit with yellow shorts and boots, giving him the look of a red bumblebee. The character, whose superpowers included shrinking to the size of a pill and dodging enemies, constantly repeated his signature phrases, "You didn't count on my cleverness" and "All the good people, follow me."

In 1971, Gomez Bolanos wrote and acted as "El Chavo del Ocho" ("The Boy from the Eight"), a reference to the channel that broadcast the show.

"El Chavo" proved so popular that reruns are still shown in multiple countries in Latin American and on Spanish language television in the United States. Many Latin Americans, living under dictatorships during the height of the show, found his underdog triumphs heroic in the face of authority.

In a 2005 interview with the Mexican newspaper La Jornada, Gomez Bolano said he always wrote with working class people in mind.

"There are writers who pour out words, concepts that sound really important but that basically say nothing," he said. "I always tried to be as concise as possible, all to try and reach everyone, but especially the simple people, those who needed to be reached more than anyone else."

He also delved successfully in theater for adults. In 1992 he produced, directed and acted in "11 and 12," the story of a man who loses his genitals in an accident and wants to impregnate his wife. The play set a record in Mexico, surpassing 3,200 performances.

Proof of his wide popularity came when he opened a Twitter account in 2011 with a simple message: "Hello. I'm Chespirito. I'm 82-years-old and this is the first time I tweet. This is my debut. All the good people, follow me!"

In less than two months, he had 1 million followers. By the time of his death, there were 6.6 million.

Gomez Bolanos is survived by his second wife, actress Florinda Meza, as well as six children from his first marriage and 12 grandchildren.

44 Seconds Of A New Madonna Song Leaked Online

Rumors about a new Madonna album have been circulating for months. On Thursday, more evidence of a forthcoming record arrived, as 44-seconds of a track purportedly called "Rebel Heart" leaked online. (Madonna repeats the phrase "Rebel Heart" at the beginning of the clip.)

Release of the song snippet, which sounds like it was recorded off a speaker, was not sanctioned by Madonna's management. Here's Guy Oseary, Madonna's manager:

As Billboard noted, the track could be a collaboration between Madonna and Avicii, as she had posted a photo to Instagram featuring the producer and DJ with the hashtag "#rebelheart" nine months ago. Or maybe that's the name of the possible album: Madonna has used the "#rebelheart" hashtag on many photos, including one from earlier this month of Chance the Rapper.

Since his big screen debut in the Jackie Robinson biopic "42," Chadwick Boseman has been on a trajectory to superstardom. He captivates audiences with his gap-toothed grin and serious acting chops (we're still in awe of how well he pulled off James Brown's dance moves and raspy voice in "Get On Up").

As Hollywood's next greatest leading man, it's no surprise that Boseman is also acing the style game. Whether appearing in the glossy pages of GQ or on the plush red carpet at movie premieres, the South Carolina native exudes confidence.

With holiday party season in full swing, we suggest sharing this article featuring Boseman's three best style lessons with the men in your life. You can thank us (and Chadwick) later.

Step up your suit game by incorporating sophisticated prints. Make sure that the overall color scheme (navy and slate blue are Boseman's go-tos) is within the same family so that you can easily mix and match stripes or gingham.

Fit is key! Be sure to wear a collared shirt that is fitted to your body with a cuff length that peeks out just enough from your suit jacket.

Robert Downey Jr. Discovers Gay Fan Fiction Photo After Googling Himself

Robert Downey Jr. may be a super star but just like us mere mortals, he can't resist the urge to Google himself once in a while.

And that's exactly what the "Iron Man" star recently did... with hilarious (and super hot) results:

Downey Jr. apparently stumbled across a fan-created photo of his character from "Iron Man," Tony Stark, in a compromising position with Loki, a villain from the "Thor" movie franchise.

Fan fiction involves the creation of (often sexual) story lines and art inspired by classic film and comic book characters and is immensely popular on the Internet.

Downey Jr. isn't the only actor who seems to be amused by the idea of fans having their way with his character.

In July, when "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt was asked about fan fiction and told that fans thought his character should be hooking up with other male super heroes, he replied, "Like, me, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.? I’ll have to say I agree.”

Busta Rhymes Went 'Hard,' Fell Off Stage At Surprise Performance

Busta Rhymes surprised fans at an O.T. Genasis show in New York City on Thursday night, but he turned up a little too hard.

The rapper came on stage at Webster Hall to support O.T. during his viral hit "CoCo," but as soon as the song started Busta began nodding his head a little too much. The rapper, who was holding a bottle of Hennessy and smoking a cigar, took one step too many forward and fell off stage into the crowd. According to photos from TMZ, Busta got up from the crowd with a bloody forehead and was ushered off the dance floor by security guards.

The rapper is okay though, tweeting that he was "super good" on Friday. Busta took to Twitter to say that when you're "passionate about winning u go hard" and attributed his fall to how good the song "Coco" is. After all, Busta has always had that mentality since his 2001 song "Break Ya Neck."

Jennifer Lawrence's song is catching fire.

As if being the Mockingjay wasn't enough, Katniss Everdeen Lawrence is adding Top 40 recording artist to her resume. Lawrence's rendition of "The Hanging Tree" in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" has now reached No. 29 on the U.K. charts, according to BBC.

The news is even more impressive considering how much Lawrence dreaded the singing performance while shooting the movie. In an interview for AOL BUILD, director Francis Lawrence revealed the actress was so upset that she even cried a little over it.

Despite Lawrence's distress, audiences have clearly responded with overwhelming approval. In addition to breaking into the U.K. charts, the song, which features an arrangement by The Lumineers, quickly went viral after being released online, receiving millions of plays.

"Mockingjay - Part 1" has mirrored the song's success. The movie is currently on its way to having one of the highest grossing Thanksgiving weekends ever in the U.S.

From all the accolades, it's clear that Lawrence has a message for President Snow: Her song is catching. And if we rock out, you rock out with us.

Kendall Jenner has had a big year. Not only did the 19-year-old recently become the new face of Estée Lauder and make Time's 2014 list of the 25 Most Influential Teens (with her sister Kylie), but now the model has topped the Dazed 100 list.

Even so, Jenner still has haters. After being named on Time's list beside Malala Yousafzai and President Barack Obama's daughters, the magazine received some backlash on Twitter. The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star doesn't care for the haters, though, and proved it with a new "Mean Girls" parody by Dazed Digital. In the video, Jenner makes her own Burn Book and fills it with all the hate comments and rumors that have circulated about her.

In Dazed's winter 2014 issue, the model also opened up about rumors that other models have bullied her. “That has never happened, ever,” Kendall told the magazine. “I would see rumors of girls bullying me backstage and putting cigarettes out in my drink, and none of that has happened. Everyone’s been really cool to me. I’ve never had one girl be mean ... so far.”
