If only we could hear Joan roast this bit.

"Saturday Night Live" paid tribute to Joan Rivers on Saturday with a dais in heaven featuring Sarah Silverman as Rivers, roasting everyone from Steve Jobs to Benjamin Franklin.

We also got an idea of what it would look like if Joan, who was roasted by Comedy Central back in 2009, was able to reconnect with her fellow late comedian Richard Pryor in Heaven.

"Richard, you could never keep it in your pants. I don't want to say that Richard fooled around, but the longest relationship he ever had was with multiple sclerosis."

"Saturday Night Live" airs on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

CHICAGO (AP) — Blues guitarist B.B. King has canceled the remaining eight performances of his current tour after being diagnosed with dehydration and exhaustion.

King's official website says he fell ill Friday evening during a performance at the House of Blues in Chicago and was evaluated by a doctor.

The end of his tour was to include stops next week at his own B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in New York.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is 89 and has released over 50 albums.

No further updates on his condition were provided.

Earlier this year, King issued a public apology to fans after an erratic performance in St. Louis led to audience catcalls and early departures. His publicists called it "a bad night for one of America's living blues legends."

Seinfeld's Advertising Award Acceptance Speech Mercilessly Mocks Ad Execs

It takes a special kind of person to stand before a crowd of high-powered executives and mock their profession.

Jerry Seinfeld is that person.

During Wednesday's presentation of the CLIO Awards, a ceremony intended to honor "advertising, design, digital and communications," the comedian used his acceptance speech to reflect on the industry. Spoiler alert: He's not a fan.

"I love advertising because I love lying," he tells the crowd of ad execs. "Spending your life trying to dupe innocent people out of hard-won earnings to buy useless, low-quality, misrepresented items and services is an excellent use of your energy."

That's gold, Jerry! GOLD!

Drake earned his 72nd appearance on Billboard's Hot 100, pushing him past The Beatles as the artist with the eighth greatest number of charts visits of all-time.

Featured on his recent OVO signee iLoveMakonnen's "Tuesday," the song's number 90 entrance broke Drake's tie with The Beatles at 71. Drake will tie Aretha Franklin with another entrance on the Hot 100, and he will tie Ray Charles with just two more. Drake has a bit to go before he catches up to current tourmate and mentor Lil Wayne at 122, and a seemingly insurmountable gap to clear to reach the "Glee" cast's 207 entries.

Here are the ten artists with the most Hot 100 entries:

1. "Glee" Cast - 207
2. Elvis Presley - 149
3. Lil Wayne - 122
4. James Brown - 91
5. Jay Z - 82
6. Ray Charles - 74
7. Aretha Franklin - 73

'Gone Girl' Barely Edges 'Annabelle' At The Box Office With $38 Million Debut

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Annabelle" couldn't scare off "Gone Girl" at the weekend box office.

The Fox thriller starring Ben Affleck as a man whose wife goes missing overcame the Warner Bros. possessed-doll horror movie with a $38 million debut, according to studio estimates Sunday. Both films join the recently released "The Maze Runner" and "The Equalizer" in crossing the $30 million mark this fall, a typically low-earning season at the box office.

"It was virtually a photo finish," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box-office tracker Rentrak. "These two movies couldn't be more different. It shows how if the marketplace presents a diversity of product, audiences will come out. It's the third and fourth $30 million debut of the past two weeks. It's been a great post-summer run."

"Gone Girl" is based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn and was directed by "The Social Network" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" filmmaker David Fincher. The film earned an additional $24.6 million internationally.

"I think David Fincher made a very provocative, thought-provoking film," said Chris Aronson, head of distribution for Fox. "I think there was this crescendo of publicity and social-media chatter that made 'Gone Girl' into a zeitgeist-y movie that you have to see to be part of the conversation."

"Annabelle" debuted closely behind "Gone Girl" with $37.2 million. The movie stars Ward Horton and Annabelle Wallis as new parents who bring the creepy porcelain plaything seen in last year's haunted house horror "The Conjuring" into their home.

Sony's "The Equalizer," last week's top performer, came in third place in its second weekend with $19 million, bringing its total domestic haul to $64.5 million. The revenge thriller starring Denzel Washington reteams him with director Antoine Fuqua, who helmed 2001's "Training Day," the film that earned Washington an Oscar for best actor.

"Left Behind," the weekend's other big debut, opened in sixth place with $6.8 million. The Rapture-set film starring Nicholas Cage is based on the novel of the same name.

Dergarabedian said overall ticket sales for the weekend box office were $149 million, an 18 percent increase from the same weekend last year.

___

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Rentrak. Where available, the latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

It's one thing for a fellow celebrity or friend to show up to support your new play. It's an entirely different, amazing thing when that person happens to be Oprah Winfrey.

Lindsay Lohan got a special visit from Oprah, who helped the actress open up on OWN's docu-series "Lindsay" earlier this year. Both Lohan and Oprah posted a photo together on their Instagram accounts over the weekend. Lohan also tweeted a photo, calling Oprah her "fairy godmother" and thanking Luptia Nyong'o (not pictured), who also showed up to support her play.

The actress made her stage debut in the West End production of David Mamet's Hollywood satire, "Speed-the-Plow" last month. Reviews of Lohan's performance have been favorable, with The Guardian calling her "rather good" performance as the temp secretary "possibly the best thing about [the] show." If you've got the support of Oprah and the Oscar-winning Nyong'o, and are getting good reviews, then you're doing pretty well in our opinion.

Is ginger the new black? It appears to be, according to La Roux and the cast of "Orange Is the New Black."

Laura Prepon, along with Emma Myles (a.k.a. Leanne Taylor) and Kimiko Glenn (a.k.a. Brook Soso), saw La Roux perform at Terminal 5 in New York City on Saturday night and then hung out with the British pop singer backstage. The ladies of Litchfield are known to hang out together outside of the prison walls. On Friday night, Lea DeLaria was in the West Village with Lori Petty, who's reportedly returning for Season 3, and there was also that time the cast rode the NYC subway together and went out to a local bar.

La Roux's Elly Jackson posted a photo of herself and bandmates with Prepon, Myles and Glenn with the hashtag "ginger is the new black." Can we hope for a surprise cameo next season?

Raven-Symoné: Don't Label Me 'Gay' Or 'African-American' (VIDEO)

$

At 28 years old, Raven-Symoné has a very clear sense of who she is -- and isn't. The former "Cosby Show" actress and star of "That's So Raven" recently sat down with Oprah and opened up about her strong sense of self, including her sexuality.

Raven has been relatively quiet about her personal life, but last year, when the Supreme Court ruled the ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional, Raven tweeted a status that many saw as her way of coming out:

When Oprah asks if this was her way of saying she is gay, Raven gives a careful answer.

"That was my way of saying I'm proud of the country," she says. "But, I will say that I'm in an amazing, happy relationship with my partner. A woman."

Raven's reluctance to open up about her private life is something she has practiced since her early days as a young star, under her parents' guidance. "People in my family, they've taught me to keep my personal life to myself as much as possible. So, I try my best to hold the fence where I can," Raven says. "But I am proud to be who I am and what I am."

The actress says she has known who she is before she was even a teenager. "In that topic of dating... I knew when I was, like, 12," she tells Oprah. "I was looking at everything."

Still, the Louisiana native never felt the need to define her sexuality and doesn't want anyone else to do it for her.

"I don't want to be labeled 'gay,'" Raven says. "I want to be labeled 'a human who loves humans.'"

In fact, Raven tells Oprah that she rejects the notion of labels completely in all areas of her life. "I'm tired of being labeled," she says. "I'm an American. I'm not an African-American; I'm an American."

The remark seems to catch Oprah off guard. "Oh, girl," Oprah says, shifting in her chair. "Don't set up the Twitter on fire... Oh, my lord. What did you just say?"

"I mean, I don't know where my roots go to," Raven explains. "I don't know how far back they go... I don't know what country in Africa I'm from, but I do know that my roots are in Louisiana. I'm an American. And that's a colorless person."

"You're going to get a lot of flak for saying you're not African-American. You know that, right?" Oprah asks.

Raven puts her hands up. "I don't label myself," she reiterates. "I have darker skin. I have a nice, interesting grade of hair. I connect with Caucasian, I connect with Asian, I connect with black, I connect with Indian, I connect with each culture."

"You are a melting pot in one body," Oprah says.

"Aren't we all?" Raven asks. "Isn't that what America's supposed to be?"

"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.

Kanye West: The 21st Century Friedrich Nietzsche

$
0
0
From the time his works were released in the mid-nineteenth century to present day, Friedrich Nietzsche has been deified, debated, defiled, and discussed. The philosopher is best known for his controversial ideas, uncensored opinions, and unwavering self-love.

Aside from his status as the new Mr. Kim Kardashian, Kanye West is one of the most awarded artists of all time. West's fame and infamy stem not only from his revolutionary rap music, but also from his egocentric personality and forthright thoughts.

Though West is considered a trailblazer in the music world, he has obviously taken more than a few cues from Nietzsche to get there.

Nietzsche is famous for his proclamation "God is dead," meaning that, in his mind, people need to realize themselves as individuals who can control their own lives. Ideology and religion dictate what is "right" and "wrong" without one's consent or approval. To undo this, one needs to achieve the status of "overman" or "ubermensch," someone who speaks his personal truth and abhors lies. So, in a sense, each man is his own god figure, because his decisions are purely self-determined.

In the song, "No Church in the Wild," West and featured artists distinctively point out some of these concepts. Frank Ocean sings, "Human beings in a mob/What's a mob to a king/What's a king to a God/What's a God to a nonbeliever who don't believe in anything?" examining the idea of power as relative and ending with the notion that God is more powerful than even a king if one believes, but a person who believes in nothing is ultimately more powerful because he has nothing to answer to.

In the same song, Jay-Z raps, "Lies on the lips of a priest/Thanksgiving disguised as a feast," also as a way of disillusioning religion and political myth as superior. Then Kanye adds, "Deception is the only felony," reflecting upon Nietzsche's idea that anything obscuring the truth is inexcusable.

As far as each man being his own god figure, West clearly takes Nietzsche's idea to heart, proclaiming himself "Yeezus" and posing as Jesus Christ for the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. Also in "No Church in the Wild," West makes the comparison, "Jesus was a carpenter/Yeezy laid his beats," and, most explicitly, says, "I am a God" in a song with the same title.

The pair also embraces the idea of self-centeredness. Nietzsche calls selfishness "the masterpiece of the art of self-preservation" and clearly follows this idea himself. He writes, "I honor, I distinguish by associating my name with that of a cause or a person: pro or con," bringing West's escapades of interrupting Taylor Swift onstage at the VMAs and announcing on national television "George Bush doesn't care about black people" to mind.

Nietzsche and West also share a favorite city between them. Nietzsche expresses his admiration in his writing, stating, "As an artist one has no home in Europe, except Paris." And the 21st century artist does, in fact, own a home in and often visits "The City of Love."

Nietzsche says, "A well-turned out person pleases our senses... He has a taste only for what is good for him...what does not kill him makes him stronger." As a man who only drapes himself in Louis Vuitton and Dior, West certainly has a knack for the finest and connects to many on an auditory sensory level, rapping, "That that don't kill me can only make me stronger."

Friedrich Nietzsche certainly would be proud of his 21st century protégé.

Kanye West probably wouldn't care.

Nick Hogan Is The First Male Victim Of The Celebrity Photo Hacking Ring

Hulk Hogan's son Nick Hogan has become the first male celebrity to have his personal photos stolen by a ring of hackers, reports TMZ.

Dozens of photos were stolen from the 24-year-old, including some in which he poses with various girlfriends from over the years, in various states of undress and sexual positions, according to the website.

Hogan told TMZ that some of the photos included in the leak are not his -- specifically a photograph of a penis, and another photo of his mother in a thong. The former reality star also warned hackers that several of the photos of his girlfriends were from his teenage years and taken while they were underage, and thus should be considered child pornography.

Hogan's leak is part of the fourth wave of stolen photos to be released since the end of August. It's believed that it's the work of the same group of hackers who released nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian, Victoria Justice and many other female celebrities.

While the leaks continue week after week, the FBI has already said they were looking into the matter. And last week, Reuters reported that a lawyer representing about a dozen female celebrities who were hacked are threatening to sue Google for failing to remove the stolen photos from its websites.

Request for comment made to Hogan's rep was not immediately returned.

Kendra Wilkinson opened up about the status of her relationship with husband Hank Baskett in an interview with HuffPost Live on Monday.

Since cheating rumors began to circulate about Baskett in June, the couple's marriage has been on shaky ground. But as of right now, Wilkinson is not making any drastic decisions.

"I’m still trying to piece things together. I feel like I’m in this fog. I’m in a dream I’m trying to wake up from," Wilkinson told host Caitlyn Becker. "Initially, I believed everything that was said. They claim that there’s a polygraph out there, they claim that there’s proof out there that my husband cheated on me. But as time went on, four months later, if you really look at it, there really is no proof."

"At the end of the day, I don't want to be a stupid girl," she continued. "I don't want to be stupid. But I know Hank loves me. But at the end of the day, I have to take things one step at a time and really figure things out."

As for where their marriage stands right now, Wilkinson said the two are "talking."

"I wouldn’t say we're 'back together.' We’re still married, cause we’re not divorced. But, we’re at a place where we can talk right now, not about everything, but we’re talking and we’re parenting. That’s our number one priority is making sure these two kids are raised with two parents, and we want to give them a great life."

Now, Bey released a new video of the live collaboration, which initially garnered attention in September. The clip was first seen in HBO's "Beyonce and Jay Z On the Run," which became available on Sept. 20.

In an interview immediately following the show, Minaj said that it was a very emotional night. "I was very honored to be a part of it," she told Paris radio station SkyRock FM. “To me, they represent drive and passion and they represent everything that I would like to be, in terms of being an artist and a businesswoman at the same time."

Kate Winslet Says Celebrity Moms Shouldn't Complain About How 'Difficult' Working Motherhood Is

Actress and mom-of-three Kate Winslet is no stranger to the demands of working in Hollywood while raising children. In a new interview with Marie Claire, the Oscar-winning actress shares her thoughts on being a working mom and why, unlike other Hollywood stars, she refuses to complain about her situation.

“We’ve heard a lot from actresses recently about how difficult it is, but we should never be saying that it’s difficult because we are so bloody lucky,” the Oscar-winning actress explains. “It’s just not an OK thing to share. It’s always a juggle, but isn’t it for every working mother?”

While Winslet's career gives her the means to access many helpful resources for working moms, she says she finds it difficult sometimes to make the "emotional jump" between her work as an actress and her role as a mom.

"The thing for me personally is that it is a difficult transition, is that my life at home is just so different to my life at work," she said, adding, "It doesn't matter which of the two is harder, it's the emotional -- rather than logistic -- jump from one place to another that's difficult. The juggling of it all... we just get on with it. And we do, because we can."

How Breast Cancer Changed Melissa Etheridge's Relationship With Food

Breast cancer changed a lot about Melissa Etheridge's life, including her relationship with food.

The singer-songwriter had a candid conversation with HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri on Friday (Oct. 3) about her new album "This Is M.E.," sex after 50, coming out of the closet and how cancer changed the way she thought about her diet.

"After cancer, food took on a different meaning for me. It used to be, 'I don't feel very well, I'm depressed, [I'll eat a] Pop-Tart.' That's kind of what food was for me," Etheridge explained.

But after cancer, Etheridge thinks of food as fuel. "It's something that I look at as, 'I'm going to nourish myself with this,'" she said.

She also revealed her "go-to meal" for nourishment: a salmon salad with avocado, apple cider vinegar and olive oil.

Etheridge also keeps healthy with an exercise regimen of hiking, yoga and kickboxing, and she said she enjoys the balance those disciplines bring her: "Yoga is about elongating, and they're very long, slow moves, and kickboxing is the muscle you use when you do something quick."

Find out more about Melissa Etheridge's diet and exercise habits in the video above, and watch the full HuffPost Live conversation here.

Sasha Grey Might Be The Most Sexually Liberated Woman In Hollywood, But She's Not A Feminist

$
0
0
The nude photo leaks are a strange thing for Sasha Grey, who is currently promoting a new film, "Open Windows," about criminal voyeurism. She has become a role model for sex positivity, especially as her visibility has increased since leaving the adult film industry. As Grey figures out what it means to call Hollywood home, the 26-year-old has found herself acting out a far darker version of the twisted celebrity culture she stumbled upon outside of pornography.

sasha grey

"Open Windows" was filmed in November of 2010, so this is all, as Grey put it, "bad timing and a terrible time for women on the Internet."

Grey plays Jill Goddard in the film, a starlet terrorized with spying and torture seemingly with the end goal of getting her naked in front of a web cam. Much of the fear is propelled by a disembodied voice rather than anonymous 4Chan and Reddit users, though the whole thing feels like a funhouse mirror reflection of the leaks which began to unfold at the end of August.

"In terms of my own privacy ... I never want the world to see me as vulnerable as one can be."

In real life, Grey is an interesting counterexample for the leaks, specifically the ongoing insistence of some that certain stars (read: Kim Kardashian) are more "deserving" of this crime than others. Enter Grey -- who has had people tweet at her with tongue-in-cheek inquiries as to whether her own photos will be shared in a upcoming round of hacks. You might think her past work in adult films would inoculate Grey to the invasiveness of "The Fappening." The reality is that every woman involved in this scandal is a victim, even if their body is already visible in some corner of the Internet.

"Obviously, I have no problem doing nude scenes. But in terms of my own privacy, no matter what, I never want the world to see me as vulnerable as one can be," Grey told HuffPost Entertainment.

"First and foremost, the serious answer to all of this is that no one deserves to have their privacy invaded," Grey continued. "The idealist in me wants to say this is why we should be more open sexually, because they we wouldn’t have so many hang ups and we wouldn’t be so afraid of these things happening, because we wouldn’t care."

Grey faces quite a bit of stress managing the distribution of her own non-private images. There are plenty of times when photos turn up without her permission. Remember when she thought she was in the "True Detective" credits, and it turned out it wasn't her? She still thinks it is.

"I’m not gonna lie," she said. "I still do think that was an amalgam of me. I mean even my mom called me like, 'What the hell is this?' You know, there’s Photoshop magic, and I can take the Prince route and get pissed off every time my photo is used or manipulated or made to look like me or I can just let it roll off. That was an instance where it was really strange, but what am I going to do? Sue the creators of 'True Detective' and HBO?"

sasha grey

There is only so much Grey or anyone can do to control the use of their likeness. She has plenty more to worry about, like the mounting artifice of celebrity culture, which is far more complex than anything she had to deal with in the adult industry. After all Grey has seen, one of her reactions to the nude photo hacks was to wonder how many people were involved in it themselves.

"You know, there are so many planned things where people leak stuff and act like it’s an accident," she said. "But they were really behind it and they hired a publicist."

"You know, there are so many planned things where people leak stuff and act like it’s an accident, but they were really behind it and they hired a publicist."

She's dealt with that kind of thing quite a bit, most egregiously fielding requests for staged dates. "Publicists of people contact me through my publicist or my manager and say, 'Yeah, would Sasha be interested in going to dinner with so and so, and being photographed? Then, who knows, maybe they’ll end up getting along!'"

It's strange to hear the lore of Hollywood acknowledged so explicitly, but Grey is past the pageantry. "It sort of feeds the culture of people who like that kind of news and that kind of gossip," she said. "They like to believe in these perfect relationships. You know, you’re in Hollywood, you’re walking around, you’re going to nice dinners. It's all sort of part of the game."

Another thing Grey finds frustrating about the Hollywood "game" is the paradoxical way we treat women's sexuality, the contradiction of restricting and indulging in it at the same time. She refuses to perpetuate that double standard, and the choices she's made reflect that. For example, she has a nude scene in "Open Windows," but she was only willing to do it because it made sense to the story.

"I’m definitely less inhibited, but there are a lot of scenes I say no to, because they only depend on my sexuality, and I’ve already pretty much done what I’ve wanted to do," she said. "So, there’s really no reason for me to take on these roles where it’s only dependent on my sexuality and there’s no character. I would rather not act again."

sasha grey

Not that Grey is trying to erase her past as a porn star. She couldn't if she tried, and Grey is far too smart and aware of the permanence of the Internet to even bother. As for the female celebrities who are maybe less enlightened than Grey, her only advice would be to use their platform to make a change.

Sighing over the gender differences in celebrity culture, she suggested that current victims reach out and "make the situation clear in order to educate future generations."

"It’s sort of hard for me to define myself as a feminist, but I definitely do believe in women being strong and self-empowered."

There's a lot to be done on the path toward liberation and away from the kind of misogyny that allows these leaks to happen in the fist place. Grey's thinking is certainly part of that progress. Yet, she wouldn't call herself a feminist.

"I’ve always sort of struggled with that idea because the word feminist has become such an overused, watered-down term," she said. "Some people think of feminism and they think of women who are so far left, they don’t wear bras and the only way they can get attention for women’s rights is being naked. Then there are women who are so far right they’re the exact opposite, and believe in very conservative, tight morals and ideals."

While that might have been a good time to spit out the Beyonce-approved definition, on some level, Grey already lives up to the point Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is trying to make. "It’s sort of hard for me to define myself as a feminist," she continued, "but I definitely do believe in women being strong and self-empowered."

"Open Windows" is available on VOD now and in theaters on Nov. 7.

Kanye West Bought Champagne For A Bachelorette Party In New Orleans

During a trip to New Orleans this weekend, Kanye West did something very un-Kanye-like: He bought champagne for a bachelorette party who was also celebrating at Galatoire's Restaurant.

What was very Kanye-like, however, was the fact that he didn't feel the need to get all up close and personal with the party-goers when they asked to document the moment. Nope, he didn't so much as pose with them, as much as "near them," as Vulture put it. And really, we wouldn't have it any other way.

Kelly Rowland, who is expecting her first child with husband Tim Witherspoon, posed topless for a black and white photo shoot to be featured in the pages of Elle magazine.

Rowland, 33, took to Instagram on Monday to share a snap from the session with photographer Lance Gross:

"It's really -- I won't say amazing -- it's Godmazing, [Laughs] watching your body carry a human," Rowland told Elle of her decision to include the photos. "I took a birthing class and I was amazed by all the things this woman was saying to me about birthing and what the body does naturally. Why wouldn't you want to celebrate that? The body should be celebrated."
