Kristina Guerrero Says Goodbye to E! News After 6 Years (EXCLUSIVE)

The first-ever Latina host of "E! News" -- and the woman who has been putting Latino stories front and center on the popular entertainment news show -- is leaving E! after six years.

Kristina Guerrero -- who made headlines when she joined "E! News" back in 2009 as the show's first (and only) Latina host -- tells me exclusively that she is leaving the network to pursue new opportunities.

"I had the most amazing time at E! and it was truly a childhood dream realized," Guerrero says. "I read that sometimes in life you have to make a decision to go backwards, stay the same, or move forward. It was time for me to move forward and I know there are great things ahead for me," adds Guerrero, who wrapped with the show "at the end of June."

Guerrero added diversity to the daily entertainment show, not only as the show's sole Latina host, but also in her exclusive interviews with the biggest Latino celebs in Hollywood, including, Demi Lovato, Eva Longoria, Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Christina Aguilera, Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez.

"If they were a HOT Latino, I interviewed them!" Guerrero says.

Guerrero, who has described herself as "100 percent Mexican from head to toe," says it was "beyond an honor to represent the culture I love so much."

Known for her infectious personality and candid interviewing style, Guerrero says that the best thing about her job was the message it sent to young Latinas -- that they, too, could become TV hosts. Guerrero loved hearing from Latinas who said they admired her work and hoped to follow in her footsteps.

"It was my favorite compliment and why I love what I do," Guerrero says. "I didn't really have anyone to look up to in the field that I wanted to go into, so it's humbling to know that I can be that for someone else," she says.

2014-07-17-BZzZdWXCQAMMbAD.jpg

And while Guerrero says that Latinas are still "grossly underrepresented" as TV hosts, she adds that there has been progress in recent years. "I covered the Billboard Awards in Vegas a few months back and I was so proud to see three Latinas representing on three of the four major entertainment shows, including Rocsi Diaz (Entertainment Tonight) and my friend {Access Hollywood's} Liz Hernandez.

So what's next for Guerrero? "Mommy hood has been my passion since {her son} Mateo was born a year ago. It's the hardest job I've ever done but the most rewarding," she says.

She's also set to to start filming a short film with her husband (producer Gibby Cevallos) in Texas. "And there are some exciting projects on the horizon that I can't wait to see come to fruition."

Aunt Of 'Breaking Amish' Reality Star Missing

Authorities in Virginia are trying to locate a missing mother of seven, who is related to one of the stars of TLC's hit reality show "Breaking Amish."

According to the Albemarle County Police Department, 56-year-old Bonnie Santiago, of Brands Flat, was last seen at a Carter Mountain home on July 12 at 1 a.m. The home is in a rural area and is surrounded by a large apple orchard.

"Her family reported her missing to us on July 14," Carter Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Albemarle County Police, told The Huffington Post. "No one knows what happened. We don’t know what she was wearing or if she left in a vehicle."

According to Johnson, Santiago was visiting a friend. The Roanoke Times reported that police said the individual is Santiago's boyfriend.

Sabrina Rock, one of the stars of the reality TV show "Breaking Amish," recently posted a message about Santiago's disappearance to her Facebook page. The message reads, in part:

"This is my aunt who has been missing. Please share and repost. Thank you."

Rock did not respond to a request for comment from HuffPost.

Santiago's sister, Barbara Simpson, described the missing woman to WHSV.com as a fun-loving person who comes from a large family. Santiago has seven children of her own and 14 grandchildren, Simpson said.

Simpson also told WHSV it would be out of character for her sister to take off without telling anyone.

"I just can't see her being missing," Simpson said. "That's why it seems so surreal."

According to Johnson, authorities have conducted two searches of the area in and around the home where Santiago was last seen, but nothing of interest was found.

Authorities said it is too soon to say whether they suspect foul play in the case, which is currently labeled a missing person investigation.

"We've dedicated a lot of resources to it and have detectives working on it," Johnson told HuffPost.

Bonnie Santiago is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on the disappearance of Santiago is asked to contact the Albemarle County CrimeStoppers at (434) 977-4000.

Jason Biggs: 'I Hurt Some People' With Malaysia Airlines Tweet

Jason Biggs stirred up controversy when he tweeted a joke following the news that a Malaysia Airlines plane had been shot down over Ukraine. The "Orange Is The New Black" actor addressed the issue during a HuffPost Live interview on Monday, July 21, telling host Alyona Minkovski that the incident would change the way he uses social media.

"You just need to think about what you put out there," Biggs told Minkovski. "Because people can get hurt and that's what happened, that's what I did -- I hurt some people. And that's not my intent, that's never my intent, so yeah, moving forward I need to not be stupid."

Kendall Jenner Poses Topless For Love Magazine

They say we lose the majority of our body heat through our heads (which is not actually true), so that must be why Kendall Jenner is wearing nothing but a giant fur hat on the cover of Love magazine.

The 18-year-old model and reality star is topless on Love's July 2014 cover, and posed for equally racy shots inside the pages of the magazine.

Jenner promoted her sexy cover on July 21 by posting it to her Instgram account and writing, "andddd my COVER of LOVE is finally here!! #DavidSims @kegrand @thelovemagazine"

Of course, this isn't the first time Jenner has gone topless for her modeling career. In addition to walking in the Marc Jacobs show during New York Fashion Week in a completely sheer sweater, the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star recently posed topless for Mikael Jansson for Interview magazine. She also went topless as a mermaid for photographer Russell James, as part of his "Nomad Two Worlds" project.

Katy Perry, UNICEF Inspire Us To 'Unconditionally' Show Love For Those With HIV

Knowing you are loved -- no matter what -- can make a world of difference to those living with HIV/AIDS and battling hurtful stigmas associated with the virus.

A new video by UNICEF is promoting unconditional acceptance for HIV-positive people with lots of warm hugs, tear-streaked faces and wide smiles. The video's message, spreading online through the #ShowYourLove hashtag, features young people writing encouraging messages, like "Love is everything," "Positive sympathy," and "Survivor," on chalkboards for the world to see. Other messages, such as "#GetTested" and, "If you love me, use condoms," highlight the realities of HIV in the 21st century.

It's no coincidence that the video, featuring Katy Perry's "Unconditionally," is targeting a younger audience. A study released last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the annual diagnosis rate more than doubled for young gay and bisexual males over the last decade, Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

"There’s a new generation that comes up, and many don’t have firsthand experience with the devastation we saw in the earlier years," the study's author, Amy Lansky, told the news source, referencing the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

Although significant work is in order to reverse recent trends, the study also highlighted major progress within other demographics: Overall rates of new HIV infections in the U.S. dropped 33 percent over the same time period, with better screening and prevention initiatives largely to credit for positive strides.

Lauren Conrad Is Aware That Allure Thinks She's 'A Basic B--ch'

There are multiple entries listed under the term "basic bitch" on UrbanDictionary.com, but perhaps the most universal definition is "just an extra regular female."

So it's no surprise that Lauren Conrad called out Allure Magazine when they threw shade at the reality TV star-turned-fashion designer, classifying her as "Basic" in an article. Allure's article elaborates: "Made famous by Kreayshawn, and viral by YouTube, the Basic woman is remarkably unremarkable. What's noteworthy about her style is its very plainness. Except to her. She swears those red soled shoes are cutting-edge."

Conrad shot back at the magazine on Twitter:

Don't worry, LC. These are beautiful, loose waves that do not resemble a sausage in the least:

And Allure says that any Basic's favorite nail color is "Ballet Slippers," when clearly Conrad's favorite is Bachelorette Bash:

So, to summarize this Twitter beef in fun, GIF Form, Allure was all:

Jonah Hill Officiated Pal Adam Levine's Wedding To Behati Prinsloo's Wedding

Is there anything Jonah Hill can't do?

In between writing and starring in hit movies, the A-lister found time this weekend to officiate the wedding of good pal Adam Levine and Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo, E! News reports.

"Jonah was hysterical. He was telling so many jokes, but then in the middle would be so sweet and sincere," a source told E! News.

Hill and Levine have been close friends for years. "Our dads met in the principal's office in junior high," Hill told Howard Stern in June. "We were in carpool, we lived at each other's houses."

The newlyweds tied the knot Saturday at Flora Farms in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in front of 275 people, including Robert Downey Jr, model Coco Rocha and Levine's Maroon 5 bandmates. Stevie Knicks reportedly played at the reception.

Hill is not first celeb to officiate a wedding; just last week, George Clooney's fiancée Amal Alamuddin officiated a friend's wedding in Italy that Clooney attended.

The Real-to-Reel Life of Former NYPD Detective and TV/Movie Producer Sonny Grosso Keeps on Rolling

0
0
It's interesting how some real-life stories refuse to disappear. In 1977 highly decorated former NYPD detective Sonny Grosso wrote and published a book called Murder at the Harlem Mosque, about the events that he personally witnessed on April 14, 1972, at the mosque located at 102 West 116 Street. Four decades on, that event is back in the news.

Grosso, whose own life story was brought to the big screen in the five-time Oscar-winning movie The French Connection in 1971, had become a technical advisor on The Godfather and legendary cop shows like Kojak with Telly Savalas, and TV movies like Contract on Cherry Street with Frank Sinatra in the 1970s. Then, after retiring from the NYPD, he became a celebrated producer himself, working on a string of hit TV series (Night Heat, Top Cops, True Blue) and movies for television (Mary Kay Letourneau: All American Girl, Kings of South Beach, and Citizen Jane, as well as several based on Mary Higgins Clark's novels).

But in 2005 he produced a television movie N.Y.-70 (starring Donnie Wahlberg and Bobby Cannavale, who won a 2013 Emmy for Boardwalk Empire), which once again touched on the events that happened back in April 1972, including the tragic death of police officer Phil Cardillo at that Harlem mosque.

This July 21, 2014, Grosso celebrates another birthday. He has spent every one of them in his beloved New York City. He still bleeds NYPD and New York Yankees blue, but on this birthday he'll have a little sorrow in his heart and will be thinking about that tragic event that happened four decades ago.

That week in April 1972 should've been one to celebrate for all time for Grosso. On April 10, 1972, the 44th Academy Awards were held at L.A.'s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Because of a morbid fear of flying, otherwise tough guy Grosso didn't join The French Connection's producer (Phil D'Antoni), director (Billy Friedkin), and cast (Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider) at the ceremony, explaining:

I just couldn't get on a plane. Guys like Aaron Spelling and football's John Madden also didn't like to fly. So there I was, watching the Oscars from an apartment in Harlem. And there was Phil, Billy, Gene and Roy in L.A., all smiling and patting each other on the back as they won the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Writing, Best Editing awards. And I kept saying to myself, "What am I doing here, not with them? How stupid could I be?" As Frank Sinatra, whom I worked with on three movies, sang, "Regrets, I've had a few," and that sure was one big one for me!

But four days later things took a turn for the worse. In the late '60s and early '70s, there was major racial unrest in U.S. cities. Grosso had been assigned to the NYPD's Major Case squad to track down the Black Liberation Army in New York. In fact, he was on a Harlem stakeout of Twymon Myers, a BLA leader, who later made the FBI's Most Wanted List in 1973.

As Grosso wrote in his book and also recalls:

We were on that Myers stakeout, and a "10-13" came over that there was a cop in trouble at the Harlem Mosque. It turned out to be a phony emergency call, but we responded. Officers Cardillo and Navarra had first responded and were met with fierce resistance. Phil was a good young friend of mine, someone I'd taken under my wing, teaching him the ropes. He was a married father of three who was shot down with his own gun and later died at St. Luke's Hospital. Since then, all kinds of efforts to honor our fallen brother have come up empty. And, to this day, no one has gone to jail for his killing.

But on July 9 present NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said they were reviewing ways to publicly honor slain police officer Cardillo, four decades after he was killed, to which Grosso responds:

People have been talking about doing all sorts of things: naming a street after Cardillo outside his former precinct, this and that. So here's hoping the mayor and police commissioner give Cardillo's family the recognition he and they deserve.

In the meantime, keep on rolling, and happy birthday, Sonny Grosso!

EPA Office Of Water Tweets About Kim Kardashian App

The Environmental Protection Agency's Office Of Water's Twitter feed went a bit off-message on Monday night.

Normally, the site talks about the U.S. government's latest efforts to protect clean water and posts links to stories about pollution and invasive species. But around 10 p.m. Monday, this odd tweet appeared:

epa tweet

The message, which as of this writing has been retweeted more than 3,000 times, is likely the product of a hacker. But it's also entirely possible that the page's social media manager is a Kim Kardashian fan who simply meant to post the tweet on his/her personal feed rather the EPA's.

Either way, the EPA's Twitter followers seem to have taken the errant tweet in stride, with most finding humor in its surprising appearance:

'Divergent' Author Says 'Hunger Games' Comparison Is 'Scary, But A Nice Thing'

0
0
Veronica Roth's YA dystopian series Divergent has endured comparisons to Suzanne Collins's wildly successful The Hunger Games series since the first installment, Divergent, was published in 2011. However, in an interview with HuffPost Live, Roth insisted that she doesn't mind the comparison. "If you're going to be compared to something," she laughed, "it's not so bad."

Given the dystopian trend sweeping YA fiction in the past decade, it's no surprise that two of the most popular series in the genre have been frequently juxtaposed. The New York Times review of Divergent in 2011 even went so far as to break down the similarities between the series point-by-point. With the Hunger Games film series, which has broken box-office records, building toward the release of the next film in November, and the second Divergent film slated for a spring release, there are more opportunities than ever to compare the two series.

Roth, who sold Divergent while she was still a college student, admits that she finds it "scary" that her books are being compared to The Hunger Games, "simply because those books are incredible." But while she's wary of the comparison, she's appreciative of how it's benefited her own work, pointing out that "it's also helped the books and the movie to find an audience, in a really wonderful way."

'A Most Wanted Man' Director Anton Corbijn Reflects On Working With The Late Philip Seymour Hoffman

0
0
Fans of Philip Seymour Hoffman can still catch him on the big screen through 2015 in the final two installments of the "Hunger Games" franchise, but the late actor's final starring role is in "A Most Wanted Man," an espionage thriller based on the novel by John le Carré.

The film's director Anton Corbijn joined HuffPost Live's Ricky Camilleri to discuss the movie and share his experience working with the Oscar-winning actor before he passed away earlier this year.

Hoffman's character in the film is disheveled and out of shape, and Camilleri asked Corbijn what he thought about viewers possibly connecting that image with Hoffman's drug-induced death.

"He channeled part of the state he was in at the time into that character. They were more closely linked than, say, Philip Seymour Hoffman and the character he played in 'The Master,'" the director said. "It will always be harder to differentiate in this role between how people perceived him to be as a person and what he gave us on the film."

But when director and star reunited in Berlin to watch an early edit of the film, Hoffman was "not the same guy," Corbijn added.

"He was a great American guy who was sitting there, full of life and funny and intelligent," he said.

Stephen Colbert Keeping 'Late Show' In NYC According To CBS

0
0
NEW YORK (AP) — Stephen Colbert will not only be following in David Letterman's footsteps, he'll be doing it on the same stage.

CBS said Wednesday that Colbert, who is replacing Letterman as the "Late Show" host next year, will keep the show in New York City's Ed Sullivan Theatre. Colbert's debut date is still uncertain, dependent on when Letterman officially retires from late-night TV. "Tonight" show host Jimmy Fallon already tapes his show in New York, and fellow competitor Jimmy Kimmel at ABC is based in Los Angeles.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said CBS is eligible for up to $11 million in tax credits for keeping the show in New York. The state is also making up to $5 million in grant money available for renovating the theater.

Dakota Fanning On Growing Up In The Spotlight: 'It's Definitely Not A Normal Thing'

0

Dakota Fanning captured the world's attention as Sean Penn's bright-eyed daughter Lucy in the 2001 film "I Am Sam." Since then, the 20-year-old has nabbed role after role, transitioning from child actress to full-blown movie star.

Her latest project, "Very Good Girls," written and directed by Naomi Foner (mother to Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal), tells the coming-of-age story of two teenage girls who make a pact to lose their virginity before leaving for college. Elizabeth Olsen co-stars in the film, which opens in theaters as a limited release on July 25.

Fanning spoke with HuffPost Entertainment about her new movie, her relationship with Olsen and growing up in the Hollywood spotlight.

“Very Good Girls” gave you the opportunity to show a more mature side of yourself. What was that like?
It was great. When I first read the script, the thing that I connected with the most was that I was experiencing the same time in my life as the character. I had already been kind of full circle with moving away and going to school and leaving my childhood behind, so it was exciting to make a movie about that because it really is such a rare thing to see in movies. And it’s something that everyone experiences, but it’s also a very specific experience, I think, that a young woman has.

How did you mentally prepare for the sex scenes in the film? You haven't done much of those in your career, and you had a few in this movie, including one with Peter Sarsgaard.
I wasn’t very uncomfortable with it. It’s just something you kind of have to do. It’s really not that big of a deal, it’s just a technical thing. Everybody is really respectful and I wasn’t uncomfortable. You just kind of have to just go for that and get it done, like anything else.

And how was it working with Elizabeth Olsen? You have amazing chemistry together.
It was great. I knew Lizzie before making the movie, so we had an existing relationship and friendship. So it was nice to make a movie that’s a lot about friendship with somebody that you actually know and like.

"I think I have a different relationship with [fame] now that I’m older."
At 20 years old, you have accomplished, well, a lot. How does it feel growing up in the spotlight? Have you learned to adapt to it all?
It is a hard thing because I don’t really know any other way. But, it definitely still is a surreal experience as you get older. I think when you’re a child, it’s hard for you to know your life is different from anyone else’s. And then, of course, as you get older, you realize that there are billions of people on the planet and everybody lives a different way and everybody has a different situation. As you grow up, you think, “Oh, no, that’s not normal for everyone.” And so, yeah, I think I have a different relationship with it now that I’m older. When people say hello to me, I feel like maybe I know them from somewhere, because they say like, “Hi! How are you?” And I’m like, “Oh, hi!” And then I realize, “Oh, no, they just think they know me because they watched me in a movie.” Which is cool, but definitely not a normal thing.

Is there a difference, you think, living in New York vs. Los Angeles?
I think it’s the lifestyle that’s so different. In New York, you walk everywhere so you’re amongst people all of the time and everybody is in a hurry and going somewhere or has something on their minds. And in LA, it’s still much more of a laid-back life, at least in my experience. But as far as other things, I feel like it’s just different. In New York, people see you like walking down the sidewalk and before they could say anything, you’re around the corner, because that’s how New York works. So I think it’s probably a more anonymous kind of life, living in New York.

What’s one experience from your career that you connect with the most? Is there a memory that sticks with you?
Wow, there are so many. I think an experience that I feel really close with was the first movie that I did do [“I Am Sam"]. Although I was very young, I still remember I was working with Sean Penn ... and the story was really special, the experience was really special and it was my first introduction to what making a movie meant and it was such a doorway for me for everything else that I’ve done up to this point. So, I’m very grateful for that experience.

i am sam

Did your parents let you watch all of your own movies when you were a kid?
I mean, I filmed it, so I knew nothing was real, so I was allowed to. It’s kind of pointless to say you can’t watch something that you already pretended to do! I think the only one -- there was a movie I did called “Trapped,” it was my second movie, and there was a part between Charlize Theron and Kevin Bacon where someone covered my eyes for like five minutes. But other than that, I’ve pretty much been allowed to watch everything since “I Am Sam” was made, so I had a healthy relationship with it. I wasn’t going to be like scarred from it, because I knew that it was fake.

"Each role that I’ve played has had a piece of a dream role in it."
Do you ever feel uncomfortable watching yourself onscreen?
I didn’t feel that way when I was younger, it was just like, “Oh, This is fun! I remember when we filmed that.” I would just watch it as a movie and forget that it was me. And that’s easier to do when you’re younger because you have less insecurities and you still have that childlike view that everything is wonderful. And then as you get older, you’re like, “Oh, God.” I started to kind of recoil seeing myself, for sure. But I try to just enjoy the film and forget about myself and let it go. It’s more about hearing myself, actually. I think that’s what the insecurity is, like, "I can’t believe I sound like that." It’s strange!

What are your goals for the future? What would be your dream role?
Each role that I’ve played has had a piece of a dream role in it. I don’t know if you ever get to find that complete dream role, but I’ve been so lucky with the ones that I’ve had. I just like stories that are about real people or just about people, in general. Those are my favorite movies to watch -- little movies about experiences that everybody has. I think sometimes people can get lost in the bigger special effects, science fiction, robot stuff, and those are cool and fun to watch too, but I think it’s so important to sometimes step back and watch something that’s about life and human interaction.

Blake Lively Reminds Us How Cute She And Ryan Reynolds Are In Vogue Interview

It's hard to forget that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are one of Hollywood's cutest couples, but, just in case you did, Lively is here to remind you.

Lively covers the August 2014 issue of Vogue magazine and took part in Vogue's "73 Questions" video series. During the six-minute interview with creator Joe Sabia, which took place at the Kitchen Table in New York City, the "Gossip Girl" actress offered up a couple quips about her husband.

In the midst of the interview, Lively and Sabia decorate cupcakes. This was definitely the perfect activity for the 26-year-old, who is a self-professed dessert lover and dabbles with baking in her own kitchen. When asked about her favorite bakery, she responded: "My home. My husband has coined it 'The Blakery.'"

Lively also revealed she and Reynolds give each other super sweet, super personalized gifts. She surprised him with "a collection of short stories written by loved ones." He gave her "a video of all of the people that had made an impact in my life for my birthday," which she said was the best gift she's ever gotten.

If all of that isn't cute enough, Lively gave the perfect response when asked to pick her favorite superhero.

"The Green Lantern," she replied.

George R.R. Martin's Response To A Fan's Letter Is The Happiest Ending He Ever Wrote

"Awwws" are coming.

If you donated $20,000 to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary last month, you had a chance to be killed by "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin in his newest novel, "The Winds of Winter."

The problem is not many people have $20K to blow, like one particular 13-year-old UK resident named Jack. But it's a good thing he didn't let that stop him.

Deciding to live like winter is coming, the boy donated what money he had and wrote Martin a heartfelt letter explaining the situation, reports Mashable.

letter

Wow, if that doesn't hit you right in the heart tree, nothing will.

Then, proving that he is the coolest guy in the Seven Kingdoms, Martin wrote back the sweetest response.

Dear Jack,

Thank you so much for your heartfelt, touching note.

I’ve heard that you donated all your £153 pocket money savings to my Prizeo fundraiser on behalf of the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. I cannot tell you how much that moved me. It pleases me no end to know that my novels, and the TV series based on them, have inspired readers as young as yourself to rally to the support of these majestic and too often stigmatized animals

Alas, I cannot promise you a grisly death in THE WIND OF WINTER. Those spots have already been filled by some very generous donors, and there’s a limit to how many people even I can kill.

However, inspired by your example, my friends at Prizeo and I would love to follow your lead with a $10,000 in your name to the UK Wolf Conservation Trust. That’s a wonderful organization that I've heard much about, and they are lucky to count people like you as supporters.

I wish you the best of luck in your future career as a wolf conservationist, and hope that you inspire many others to follow your lead.

Yours,
GRRM

Okay, so the kid isn't really going to die in the books, but a $10,000 donation is still pretty cool. And for an author who's known for killing off everyone's favorite characters left and right, it's nice to see him write at least one happily ever after.

Now, if only we could do something about that Red Wedding.
