This Is What Richard Pryor's Son Thinks About Nick Cannon Being Cast In His Father's Biopic

Nina Simone's, Whitney Houston's and Aaliyah's biopics aren't the only films to stir up family drama and casting controversies. Richard Pryor's can now be added to the list.

The legendary comedian's son, Richard Pryor Jr., previously dismissed Nick Cannon as an adequate choice for the role of playing his father in director Lee Daniels' upcoming film. However only days later, Pryor has reportedly changed his mind.

"I am actually very excited about it now. He changed my mind by how he is delving into it."

Cannon's apparent devotion to learning to live like Pryor has apparently impressed the legendary comedian's son.

"He did the small thing of using his left hand instead of his right hand, he picked up smoking to try and emulate my dad, he’s let his hair grow out. He’s looking into who my dad really was, looking into his childhood, who he was raised by and around, and he is interested in talking to me about who my dad was."

Pryor Jr. is still concerned about the controversial relationship between his father's widow, Jennifer Lee Pryor, who has all the rights to his material, and how she will be depicted in the film.

"She is going to portray herself as angelic when it was the opposite," he said. "She’s not a nice lady…My dad’s money took care of him, they didn’t even live in the same home."

But confidence in Nick Cannon's candidacy for the lead of the film seems to be one less worry about his father's legacy. Nick Cannon has yet to land the role for certain, but Pryor Jr.'s support is at the very least a major encouragement.

Great news!

Nick and Vanessa Lachey are expecting their second child, the couple announced via Twitter on Tuesday, July 15. Nick posted a photo of the pair's almost 2-year-old son, Camden, running next to a heart drawn in the sand, which reads, "It's a girl."

“I do want a girl. I think there’s something emotional about having a daughter that I definitely want to experience,” Nick told People earlier this year when asked about expanding his brood with Vanessa.

"It’s always a funny question when people ask, 'Do you have any plans for baby number two?' Because it’s like, 'Yes, my husband and I are actively trying!'" Vanessa told HuffPost Celebrity in February. "We’ve wanted to have more kids and if it’s in the cards for us, it’ll be in the cards for us. We hope it is, and if it’s not, at least we’ve been blessed with one amazing little boy and we’ll see where fate takes us."

Well, it was in the cards for them! Congrats!

NBA Fans Really Do Think LeBron James Values Home More Than Winning

$
0
0
WASHINGTON -- NBA fans largely agree with LeBron James' decision to return home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a new HuffPost/YouGov poll shows, but the majority of them think James would win more championships if he kept his talents in South Beach.

Forty percent of Americans who follow the NBA said James did the right thing by signing with Cleveland, as opposed to 24 percent who said he should have stayed with the Miami Heat and just 10 percent who said James should have tried his luck with a different team.

James announced last week that he will return to the Cavaliers, where the four-time MVP spent the first seven years of his NBA career before departing for Miami in 2010. James' decision to rejoin the Cavs sent shock waves through the basketball world, where speculation over the power forward's future had been rampant ever since he opted out of his contract with Miami last month.

Most observers of the league believed James would ultimately re-sign with the Heat, despite the team's loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the 2014 NBA finals. Basketball fans certainly believe James would have won more championships had he stayed in Miami, where he led the Heat to four consecutive finals and two titles during a four-year stint.

Fifty-two percent of fans polled said James' prospects of winning would be better if he stuck with Miami, whereas 29 percent said he's more likely to succeed in Cleveland. James, a native of Akron, Ohio, has said he looks forward to the challenge of mentoring the Cavaliers' young roster.

Most NBA fans also said Cleveland should set aside its anger over James' decision to leave the Cavaliers in his 2010 free agency. James infamously announced his move to Miami in a televised interview called "The Decision." Cleveland fans subsequently burned their jerseys of James, while Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert disparaged him in an open letter that remained on the team's website for four years (and was only purged shortly before James confirmed his return).

Sixty-three percent of basketball fans said Cleveland should welcome James back, while 21 percent said they should not.

James addressed the backlash over his departure in his announcement last week, telling Sports Illustrated's Lee Jenkins that he was willing to put any lingering animosity behind him.

"It was easy to say, 'OK, I don’t want to deal with these people ever again.' But then you think about the other side," James said. "What if I were a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react? I've met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. We've talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. I've made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?"

The HuffPost/YouGov poll was conducted July 11-14 among 1,000 U.S. adults, including 259 NBA fans, using a sample selected from YouGov's opt-in online panel to match the demographics and other characteristics of the adult U.S. population. Factors considered include age, race, gender, education, employment, income, marital status, number of children, voter registration, time and location of Internet access, interest in politics, religion and church attendance.

Selena Gomez Slams Instagram Bully Who Told Her To 'Burn In Hell With Cancer'

Just because Selena Gomez has 10.8 million Instagram followers doesn't mean she won't see your comment, especially if it's scathingly hurtful.

One Instagram user learned this lesson the hard way July 12, when the 21-year-old singer lashed back at her harsh words. The Instagram user, whose account is now deactivated, reportedly commented on Gomez's photo, writing, "Burn in hell with cancer." Gomez shared a screenshot of her reply to the bully:

The singer captioned the photo, "Honestly, I don't speak up much because it's simply *always* taken out of context. But I don't take bullying well. I have seen too much to not say anything."

Word to the wise: Think before you mess with Selena Gomez.

Dolly Parton Reveals Plans For A Dance Album For Her Gay Fans

Dolly Parton has long been country music's biggest gay icon, but it seems she might be taking pop pointers from the likes of Cher and Madonna for her next project.

As Billboard and The Guardian are reporting, the 68-year-old superstar revealed plans for a dance album at a press conference last week. Though she didn't elaborate on specifics of the release, Parton said the album will include "several songs that are very positive towards the gay community."

"I would like to do a dance record," she said, according to Billboard. "I have a song called 'Just a Wee Bit Gay.' It's a great little dance tune -- it's funny and it's got a lot of comic in it. I do write a lot of songs along those lines with people that are different and are just themselves."

Rumors of Parton's dance album began to swirl in 2007, after Perez Hilton described hearing "Just a Wee Bit Gay," according to The Guardian. Meanwhile, producer Allen Morgan claimed he was collaborating with Parton on the project, describing the album as "different from anything she's ever done" at the time.

Parton has long been outspoken in her support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

"I do believe that I have a lot of gay fans because I think they do accept me as I am -- the differences in me -- and I think they know that I see that and love that in everybody else," she told PrideSource's Chris Azzopardi while promoting her latest album, "Blue Smoke," earlier this year. "I try to see the good in everybody and I don't care who people are as long as they're themselves, whatever that is."

She offered similar sentiments in an interview with Britain's Event magazine, per an article featured on the Daily Mail's website.

"I think everyone should be with who they love," she said at the time. "I think gay couples should be allowed to marry. They should suffer just like us heterosexuals. Ha ha ha!"

Brody Jenner Says It's NBD He Skipped Kim's Wedding But Went To Reggie Bush's

Longtime reality television personality Sam Brody Jenner (bet you didn't know his first name is Sam) raised some perfectly plucked eyebrows this past weekend when he attended Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush's wedding to model-dancer Lilit Avagyan.

Perhaps you're wondering why there was such a fuss; C-list celebrities regularly attend the weddings of other C-list celebrities. Well, you are likely forgetting that Bush is Jenner's stepsister Kim Kardashian's ex-boyfriend. Oh, yeah. Drama.

And perhaps you are also forgetting that Jenner didn't even attend Kardashian's star-studded wedding extravaganza in May.

So to recap: Jenner did not attend his own stepsister's wedding, but he went to her ex-boyfriend's. Major drama, right?

Not according to the former "Princes of Malibu" star, who addressed his RSVP choices with reporters at the ninth annual ESPY Awards All-Star Celebrity Kickoff Party at in West Hollywood on July 14.

"I love Reggie. It was a great wedding. It was beautiful," he told reporters, before explaining why he was a no-show at Kardashian's nuptials to Kanye West. “Kim’s was in Paris. I was working. Kim was in Paris, and it’s as simple as that. So yeah, it’s kind of ridiculous that everybody’s making such a big deal out of it. Reggie’s been a friend of mine for a very long time. So it’s all good.”

So, there's no drama then?

Well, who really knows? It's all kind of suspect given that in November, Jenner was unsure he'd even be invited to his stepsister's wedding. "Well, you never know with the family. I didn't get invited to the engagement, so you never know," Jenner told Us Weekly.

Why Danielle Brooks' Parents Were Wary Of Her 'Orange Is The New Black' Role

Danielle Brooks' character Taystee became an instant fan favorite when "Orange Is The Black" was first released on Netflix last summer, but she got some resistance from her parents before the camera ever started rolling.

When Brooks dropped by the HuffPost Live studio to talk about the second season of the acclaimed prison dramedy, host Marc Lamont Hill asked whether the racy content on the show ever made waves with Brooks' family. The actress said the script ruffled her mother and father's feathers from early on.

"From day one! I had to be topless in a scene with Taylor [Schilling] in the shower, and I didn't know how much they were gonna show of my ta-tas. So when that happened, that was the first thing, I was like, 'Parents, look, Mom, Dad, yo, I think I might have to do this,'" Brooks said. "I told them, and they were like, 'No! No!' They're going to hate me for saying that, but they did."

Ultimately, though, everything turned up just fine for Brooks and her family.

"At the end of the day, they were very happy that I chose to do this," Brooks said of her parents. "And in the end, you didn't see anything [in the shower scene]."

"At the end of the day, celebrities are just like everyone else and have an interest in making their investments work for them," says Jon Gray, senior vice president of HomeAway.com. "If they have an empty property that they rarely use, why not make money on it?"

Noel Wells, John Milhiser & Nasim Pedrad Out At 'Saturday Night Live'

"Saturday Night Live" has shed two freshman and one veteran from its sprawling cast. Featured players Nöel Wells and John Milhiser and long-time cast member Nasim Pedrad will not return to "SNL" for the show's 40th season, this according to Deadline.com. When asked to comment on the news by HuffPost Entertainment, a representative for NBC said that the network does not discuss casting changes on the show.

Wells and Milhiser joined the "SNL" cast as featured players before the start of the 39th season in 2013; Pedrad has been with the show since 2009. Her departure is at least in part due to her co-starring role on Fox's "Mulaney," which debuts this fall.

"I haven't heard any official word so far, but I love ['Mulaney'] so much," Pedrad told BuzzFeed back in June when asked about her "Saturday Night Live" status. "I have an apartment in L.A. and, as far as I know, I'm in L.A. now."

The news of these departures comes on the heels of another rookie cast member, Brooks Whelan, being let go from the show as well. Wheelan tweeted the news on Monday, July 14.

It has long been expected that "Saturday Night Live" would make big adjustments to its cast before the start of Season 40. "We're still in the middle of rebuilding," executive producer Lorne Michaels told Deadline.com back in June. "So there will be changes this year."

A 53-year-old man was arrested after breaking into the Kennedy Compound in Barnstable, Massachusetts. Police said the man, identified as James M. Lacroix, told them he was "looking for Katy Perry."

Barnstable police responded to a call on Tuesday evening, July 15, from Edward Kennedy Jr., who was in Connecticut when he phoned home to check on his son 16-year-old son and Lacroix answered.

When officers arrived at the residence, they found Lacroix sitting on a couch reading a book. According to police, the Mashpee, Massachusetts, resident told officers he was at the home to see Katy Perry and John F. Kennedy, adding that he had a gift to give the singer.

Kennedy's teenage son told police he encountered Lacroix upon arriving at the home and assumed he was a friend of the family. The young man said the two had an "extensive and interesting" conversation before he left to go to a friend's house.

Lacroix, who officers say may have been suffering from "longstanding psychological issues," said he entered through an unlocked door. Lacroix was arrested and charged with breaking and entering; his arraignment at the Barnstable District Court is on July 16.

Perry, currently touring as part of her Prismatic World Tour, was performing at the Bell Centre in Montreal at the time of Lacroix's arrest.

Bethenny Frankel Wears Baggy Men's Clothes, Dares Internet Not To Approve After Instagram Controversy

This past weekend, Bethenny Frankel shared a photo of herself wearing her 4-year-old daughter's Hello Kitty pajamas, and the Internet didn't like it very much.

The 43-year-old was met with all sorts of criticism from commenters claiming she was promoting an unhealthy body image, and even accusing her of "competing" with her daughter.

The former "Real Housewives of New York" cast member already defended herself on Twitter, but then she went a step further and posted a photo of herself wearing oversized men's workout clothes that overwhelm her tiny frame.

Though she didn't caption the photo, the look on her face speaks volumes, as though she's double daring the Internet not to approve.

Meet The Water Mite Named After Jennifer Lopez

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Pop singer Jennifer Lopez may be thinking life is funny after a group of scientists named a water mite in her honor after discovering a new species near Puerto Rico.

The music of the Bronx, New York-born entertainer who has Puerto Rican roots was a hit with the group while they wrote about their findings, biologist Vladimir Pesic said in an email Wednesday.

"The reason behind the unusual choice of name for the new species is ... simple: J.Lo's songs and videos kept the team in a continuous good mood when writing the manuscript and watching World Cup Soccer 2014," said Pesic, who works at the University of Montenegro.

Pesic calls it a small token of gratitude for the singer of hits such as "Ain't It Funny," "I Luh Ya Papi" and his personal favorite, "All I Have."

He's the corresponding author of the study that was published Tuesday in the peer-reviewed online journal ZooKeys.

Pesic and other scientists collected the newly baptized Litarachna lopezae mite from a coral reef in Mona Passage, a treacherous body of water that separates Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The species was found at a depth of nearly 70 meters (230 feet), the greatest depth that pontarachnid mites have been found until now, according to their study.

The mites were collected during a series of trips from 2010 to 2012 organized by the University of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Coral Reef Institute.

Over the years, scientists have named dozens of organisms after famous people to honor them. Mick Jagger, for example, has a type of trilobite named after him, while one spider was named after Bono and a marine parasite found only in the Caribbean sea was named after Bob Marley.

Pesic said that while he and other scientists rooted for different teams during the World Cup, they found common ground with Lopez.

"As European, I supported Germany, but the whole team was united with J.Lo songs," he wrote.

The Real Reason Jillian Michaels Left 'The Biggest Loser'

The toughest trainer in "The Biggest Loser" history is finally opening up about what pushed her to exit the popular weight-loss challenge show.

Jillian Michaels, who became famous after appearing as a coach on the NBC reality series, is known for her hard-hitting attitude when it comes to shedding the pounds. Michaels seemed more like an drill instructor than a personal trainer and didn't mind pushing her clients past the point of exhaustion before the final weigh in. The controversy surrounding contestant Rachel Fredrickson's dramatic 155-pound transformation edged Michaels closer to the breaking point.

"There were some fundamental differences [with the producers of "The Biggest Loser"] that have existed for a while," Michaels told People magazine. Those differences seem to be related to how Michaels was portrayed while in front of the camera. "In the beginning of the show it was tough love. You saw the tough, and you saw the love," Michaels said. But in the later seasons, the producers chose to feature less of the love and more of the tough, at least when it came to Michaels' team. "You saw none of the relationships, none of the bonds that I build with my clients," she said.

In the end, it was her reservations about certain aspects of the show coupled with the nasty side of fame spilling over into her personal life that had Michaels ready to call it quits. The Los Angeles-based trainer, who has two kids with partner Heidi Rhoades, said comments her kids heard at school pushed her to take back control of her public image. "I had to take a hard look at my work," said Michaels. "I came to the conclusion that moving forward, I need to be able to have an impact on the outcome of what I do.”

A Reddit user has discovered a marble statue that looks like Ron Swanson -- exactly like Ron Swanson.

The marble statue, posted to Reddit by user tmcdizzle827 on Tuesday, bears an uncanny resemblance to Nick Offerman’s character on the NBC series “Parks and Recreation.” The only thing is, the statue was commissioned back in the mid-1800s.

(Story continues below.)

On display at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia, the statue actually depicts Shakespearean actor Edwin Forrest, whose his career began at the Walnut Street Theater in 1820, per MTV News.

The outlet spoke with the theater’s communications manager, Amy Rodgers, who said it's mostly young people who notice the six-ton statue’s resemblance to the TV character.

"Usually it’s the younger crowd during tours, saying, 'Oh my god, it’s Ron Swanson!'" she said.
