Drew Barrymore Does Her Makeup On The Subway, Is Just Like Us

Here is Drew Barrymore assimilating with the proletariat, and taking the NYC subway. Two weeks ago, Mariah Carey also took the subway, but she wore a floor-length gown, and later got off in favor of a cab. Not Drew, though. Drew Barrymore rides the subway makeup free, carries along an industrial stick of concealer and somehow figures out how to take selfies while applying it on a moving train (just like us!).

'Glee' Will Get 'Back To Its Roots' For The Sixth And Final Season

Co-creator Ryan Murphy says the sixth and final season of "Glee" will "get back to its roots."

I’m sort of reinvigorated about it," Murphy told TVLine, "It’s getting back to what I was initially interested in with the show, which was arts in school. The last season is really about the importance of arts education in our high schools… I think people will like it.”

Murphy admitted that throughout Season 5 he was distracted both by his work on HBO's "Normal Heart" and Cory Monteith's death, which Murphy addressed on the show, without revealing how the character of Finn had died.

The last season of "Glee" was also wrought with an alleged feud between Lea Michele and Naya Rivera, including rumors that the latter had been fired (quickly refuted both by a statement from Fox and these playful bikini photos).

The question of whether "Glee" can return to its original formula remains to be seen, but we sincerely hope the show is able to work through the rest of its issues in the form of a grand musical number.

The 7 Most Disappointing Series Finales Of All Time

$

As viewers shook their heads in disappointment at FX's "Fargo" finale earlier this week, we got to thinking: Is there anything worse than a bad finale? We dedicate ourselves to characters and their storylines for days, for month, for years! So when that final episode rolls around, we're expecting fireworks. And sometimes we get them ("Breaking Bad," anyone?) ... but a lot of the time we don't.

Behold, our picks for the most disappointing series finales of all time.

"How I Met Your Mother" (2014)
how i met your mother finale

"How I Met Your Mother" started out as a lively, easy-to-love sitcom, then stretched the patience of its loyal viewers thinner and thinner over the course of its nine-year run. Many of us hung on, despite the casual racism, exhausting misogyny, and increasingly desperate attempts to put off the inevitable finale, because we simply wanted to meet the damn mother. As the final season began, it seemed almost worth it; Cristin Milioti played the long-awaited mother throughout the season and imbued the character with unexpected charm.

And then, after nine long years, the showrunners unforgivably bumbled the finale, presenting an emotionally tone-deaf conclusion that cast aside years of character development and treated the mother as a disposable afterthought. Worse, the kids’ blasé attitude about their father’s story for the past nine seasons, and their casual dismissal of their mother’s memory, was bizarre and even callous. My disgust was so great I vowed never to watch a rerun of the show again -- so far, I haven’t even been tempted. -- Claire Fallon

"Lost" (2010)
lost
Ah, "Lost." The show's many twists, turns and literary allusions (of which Sawyer and Ben's "Of Mice and Men" quarrels take the cake) led fans to believe that there was some major puppet mastery going on behind the scenes, all to be revealed in the final episode. Au contraire. J.J. Abrams instead supplied a complete stock ending: Surprise! Everyone's dead, and this is heaven or hell or something, and remember Jack's dad? No? Well, he's Jesus. Yeah.

The writers seemed less interested in providing clarity to unanswered questions than with trying to make die-hard watchers cry. Among other cheap pathos plays was the resurrection of characters who hadn't been around since Season 1 (the pointless and whiny but attractive Shannon returns for a quick shot in which she embraces Sayid, whom she dated for like thirty seconds. Aww?). -- Maddie Crum

"Dawson's Creek" (2003)
dawsons creek
While I was a little old to watch "Dawson's Creek" -- 25, to be exact -- I invested an entire summer in the adolescent angst of Capeside, and I got very attached to the characters. Would Joey choose Dawson or Pacey? Would Jack's sexuality ever be fully accepted? Was Dawson really the next Steven Spielberg?

By the end Season 6, it finally seemed like the characters I'd come to know and love were getting their happy ending. They were in their 20s, after all, which is when everything falls into the place (Hah! Yeah, right). But then, the cruel creators of "Dawson's" had to throw a tragic twist our way: Jen, the character who arguably had the most problems through the entire series, died. She died. Her own grandmother had to bury her, and she left a baby behind. What a mess! -- Leigh Weingus

"Dexter" (2013)
dexter

I was an avid "Dexter" fan, awaiting every Sunday night in the fall to catch the latest episode on Showtime. But by the time Season 8 rolled around (and aired in the summer), I was losing interest. Yes, I knew it was the final season, and yes, I loved Dexter, Deb, Batista, Mazuka, etc., but compared to the first few seasons (the first four to be exact), this last one was hard to watch (and not in a good way). The finale, which I hoped would be an epic culmination to the show I spent years watching, failed to impress and actually enraged me more than anything else. In coordination with Season 8, “Remember the Monsters?” was farfetched and lacked that "Dexter"-feel fellow fans craved.

SPOILERS AHEAD! First off, why the eff did Deb have to die?! And where was the hospital staff while Dexter wheeled her out the door, picked up her body and loaded it onto his boat?! Like, c'mon. Oh, and then he drops her into the ocean, like no one else would want to say goodbye or give her a proper burial? Selfish. But what really made me angry was the whole, "Is Dexter dead or alive?" plot twist. To be honest, the series would have been justified if Dexter did die. Despite loving Hannah and having Harrison to live for, Dexter was never going to change -- he is who he is. So, the fact that he made it through that massive hurricane and is currently moonlighting as a lumberjack is sort of freaky. The Bay Harbor Butcher lives on -- and so does Miami Metro. R.I.P., Deb. R.I.P., "Dexter." R.I.P., Arthur Mitchell. -- Leigh Blickley

“United States of Tara” (2011)

united states of tara

Showtime’s “United States of Tara” was an exceptionally underrated show that managed to find the perfect balance between humor and tragedy with a continually unique story. For three seasons, we followed Toni Collette’s many alters, or personalities, as she suffered from Dissociative Identity Disorder for reasons that remained unknown until the end. In the final season, the Diablo Cody-written series got darker and began handling weightier topics, such as proper care for the mentally ill and resurfaced memories of childhood sexual abuse.

In the series finale, however, things turned seemingly too dark for the show to handle as they rather offensively mocked the severity of the character’s struggle. Opting for humor with Collette's portrayal of Tara’s abuser rather than having the courage to face the somber and devastating aspects of her path to recovery, the finale buckled at the knees in fear of its own serious subject. Although the episode was initially written as the third season finale and not the end of the series, it still failed to fully give us the closure we needed as an audience. -- Erin Whitney

"The Hills" (2010)

the hills

I know “The Hills” ended four years ago. I also know nothing on that “reality” show was actually real. Most of the drama was put on and set up by producers, but we tuned in any way because we fell in love with the characters and, I’ll admit, there’s something fascinating about watching other people try to handle their problems. The show should’ve ended when LC left, but since it didn’t, you’d think MTV could’ve at least given the gang a proper send-off when they finally pulled the plug.

While those “Laguna Beach” flashbacks set to an acoustic version of that damn Natasha Bedingfield song initially had me reaching for the nearest box of tissues, a few minutes later I was reaching for something else … the remote. Seriously? Having Brody and Kristin say their goodbyes, only to pull the backdrop of the Hollywood sign away and reveal they were both standing on a studio set was like giving viewers the big middle finger. Knowing the show was fake and then having them confirm it are two different things. It’s like, we all know our parents have sex, but do any of us want them to sit us down for a heart to heart about how they dance the horizontal hokey-pokey every night? No! Some things are better left unsaid, MTV! -- Jessica Toomer

"The Sopranos" (2007)
the sopranos

There are many theories on the finale of “The Sopranos,” but the one that seems to be most relevant is that it was completely terrible. After five minutes of suspense as Tony and his family sit in the diner and his daughter, who mysteriously seems to have lost all her ability to drive, struggles to parallel park, the bell to the diner rings, the screen goes black, the Journey song “Don’t Stop Believin’” cuts out and America collectively goes, “What the hell?” Rather than let us know if Tony lived or died, HBO just gave us a black screen. If you really want to watch a black screen and listen to Journey, you don’t need an HBO subscription. That’s why they invented iPods and being poor. It seems like HBO was even trying to warn us that the ending was bad. This is evident in the final moments when Tony’s son A.J. says, “Focus on the good times.” We all know he really means, “Focus on the good times, because this is really going to suck.” -- Bill Bradley

There Were Some Ugly Outfits On This Week's Worst Dressed List

$

This week, more than one A-lister flopped in the wardrobe department. Unfortunately.

Jessica Alba chose the wrong color for her skin tone, Mel B went way too short and Eva Longoria just looked hot (as in, she was probably sweating in her leather dress in the middle of June).

Check out our least favorite looks of the week, and for the love of god, don't copy any of these outfits.

Kaley Cuoco

kaley

If you're able to make it past the Kate Gosselin hair, this outfit is almost equally as egregious. Though the matching top and pant combo is all the rage right now, this particular set is just plain ugly. The texture is bizarre and the cut of the top is unflattering.

Laura Vandervoort

laura

Is it just us, or does this look a little like a figure skating costume?

Deborah Ann Woll

dress

The "True Blood" actress actually picked a great silhouette for her body, but the weird brown band around her midsection makes it look like they ran out of fabric to finish the dress. Not to mention the fact that the earthy color palette seem a little dull for summer.

Eva Longoria

eva

Just when we thought Longoria was on a winning streak, she goes and wears this. First of all, it's about nine hundred degrees outside, so she must be boiling hot in this leather number. And secondly, a leather dress is enough of a statement on its own, there is no need to add ruffles and bows and exaggerated sleeves.

Mel B

mel

Well that's one short skirt. One wrong move and we would get an eye full. And even if we were willing to look past the micro mini, the black stretchy top doesn't quite work on the red carpet, it's too casual.

Chloe Grace Moretz

chloe

How did our favorite fashionista end up on this list? Well, it's probably because of the weird harness details on her dress. Unless she is preparing to do a stunt, we're not having it.

Jessica Alba

jessica

This color is making Alba's skin look orange.

Rosamund Pike

pike

Pike's dress isn't great, but it's the super casual mesh jacket that she is wearing over top that is making us scratch our heads.

Stephen King Says He Is Jealous Of George R.R. Martin's Involvement In 'Game Of Thrones'

Stephen King is jealous of George R.R. Martin, or so he told the LA Times. He knew Martin had written a few episodes of "Game Of Thrones," and that might have been what made him get involved in the most recent adaptation of his own work: "Under The Dome."

The King canon has been transitioned to film dozens of times, but in the past he's been less active in the process.

It’s a responsibility to be directly involved,” he told Buzzfeed. “I sometimes tell people that the ideal situation is, if the thing is a success you can say, ‘It’s based on my work.’ If the thing is not a success, you can say, ‘Well, I didn’t have anything to do with it.’"

Working with "Under The Dome," King has finally had the ability to have a hand in that responsibility. "It gave me a chance to set the arc in motion for the season," he said to the LA Times, "and it gave me a little more input into what was going to happen."

King was pleased with the idea of expanding "Under The Dome," because the book turned out to be more "condensed" than he had planned. The story spanned three or four weeks, where he had initially intended to have a timeline of many months. Although, as Buzzfeed notes, "The idea that the novel could have been even more expansive may come as a surprise to readers who made it through Under the Dome’s daunting 1,000-plus pages."

Other reasons King may be jealous of Martin include, but are not limited to, his glorious beard.

Hope Solo Arrested For Domestic Violence

June 21 (Reuters) - Hope Solo, goalkeeper for the U.S. women's soccer team, was arrested early on Saturday morning for striking her sister and teenage nephew during a dispute at her home in a Seattle suburb, police said.

Police who responded to a 911 call at Solo's house in Kirkland a little after midnight could hear noise from the "disturbance" from the street, according to a police statement.

Solo, 32, appeared "intoxicated and upset," police said, and her 17-year-old nephew and adult sister were visibly injured.

The soccer star was hosting a party at her house when the dispute took place, the Seattle Times reported.

Solo is being held without bail in a local jail, on two charges of domestic violence assault in the fourth degree, according to the jail's inmate registry, where she is listed by her married name, Hope Amelia Stevens.

Her husband, Jerramy Stevens, is a former National Football League player for the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Just a few hours before their wedding in November 2012, police arrested Stevens on the belief that he had assaulted Solo, but he was released because of insufficient evidence, and charges were never brought, according to media reports.

Solo has appeared as a contestant on ABC television's "Dancing with the Stars," and has played on two teams that won Olympic gold medals for women's soccer.

It was not clear whether Solo had a lawyer. She is due to appear in Kirkland Municipal Court on June 23. (Reporting by Jonathan Allen, Editing by Alex Dobuzinskis and Gunna Dickson)

Marvel Studios has announced that Rosario Daweson will join Netflix's "Daredevil" as a recurring guest star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she will play "a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell's Kitchen brings blind attorney Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life." As Vulture notes, that could mean Elektra, but is more likely "Daredevil's civic-minded eventual wife Milla Donovan."

Other vague information regarding Dawson's casting include the fact that her role will include a "journey [that] forever alters the course of [a] battle against the injustices of this broken city."

Netflix's order of 13 "Daredevil" episodes comes as part of a larger pact with Marvel, which also includes "Jessica Jones," "Iron Fist," "Luke Cage" and the miniseries "The Defenders."

9 Reasons Meryl Streep Will Always Be Our Leading Lady

$
0
0
Happy birthday, Meryl Streep! Hollywood's indisputable sweetheart is 65 today and we can't believe it. Not only is she looking fantastic, but the woman is on fire. Over 35 years since her first Oscar win as a newcomer to Tinseltown, Queen M was a nominee for the 18th, yes, 18th, time at this year's Oscar's for her performance in "August Osage County," making her the most nominated actress in history. And though she's a bit older than the average Hollywood actress, she's defying all odds, still being one of the industry's most sought-after actresses with several upcoming films in the works.

We get it, Mer. You're unstoppable. Here are nine reasons Meryl will always be the woman of our dreams. (Is there anything she can't do?)

1. She's one smart cookie.
She's played a prime minister and an Editor-in-Chief on screen, but Streep would have been just as successful if Hollywood hadn't come knocking. She attended both Vassar College and Yale's School of Drama. In fact, she reportedly had applied for law school, but ended up oversleeping the morning of her interview and took it as a sign that she was destined for something else.

2. Her many accents.
From a sassy Southerner, to British iron lady, to a straight-talking nun in the Bronx, the Jersey-made actress can pull off any, we mean any, accent like a native. Here's the proof.

3. She's charitable.
Her enviable designer duds from "The Devil Wears Prada" were auctioned off for charity at her suggestion. She donated her entire salary ($1 million) from "The Iron Lady" to the National Women's History museum. And recently it was uncovered that Streep and her husband, Don Gummer, have donated around $1 million to a variety of causes, including Meals On Wheels and the Coalition for the Homeless, quietly through their charity, the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts. Saint Meryl?

4. Her body confidence.
There's nothing sexier than confidence and well, Meryl just wears it well. "I wasted so many years thinking I wasn't pretty enough and why didn't I have Jessica Lange's body or someone else's legs?" Streep said in a 2009 interview. "What a waste of time. Now I'm enjoying the tatters of what's left and I'm very happy. Part of it is having beautiful strong daughters and hearing them whine about what's wrong with them. I'm like, 'Shut up! You're lovely!'"

5. She's grounded.
You won't see any diva-like behavior here. "I try to lead as ordinary a life as I can," Streep has been quoted as saying. "You can't get spoiled if you do your own ironing."

Perhaps it was her humble start that keeps her so down to earth. Streep waited tables in her 20s and once didn't even have a place to sleep at night.

"On my very, very first trip to London I went around busking to earn a few pennies to afford some food and overnight accommodation," she told Closer Magazine. "One night, when I hadn't made enough, I actually slept in the open in Green Park under a tree. The view from the park was of the Ritz hotel, and I vowed to myself that night that I was going to stay there one day -– and I have."

6. She has a kickass marriage.
meryl streep don gummer

Streep has been married over 35 years to sculptor Don Gummer, avoiding the "Oscar Curse" many times. Streep has said the key to her marriage has been communication about everything, no matter how small and to embrace your differences. "I go to the theatre a lot," she told The Independent. "My husband doesn't care if he never goes to the theatre but I don't berate him because he doesn't want to go to the theatre ... we're different."

7. She's embracing aging, gracefully.
Streep has had some of her most challenging and memorable roles after turning 50, though the majority of roles in Hollywood are for younger women. “The good thing about getting older is that when they actually do cast you it’s often something interesting,” Streep said in an interview with Good Housekeeping. "You have to embrace getting older. Life is precious... each day is a gift.”

Earlier this year Streep was honored at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and said, ""I feel like I'm an example now in my dotage of the fact that you just can't put those old gals out to pasture. We've got a lot of stuff still to say." You go girl!

8. She's a feminist.
meryl streep hillary clinton

She's no doubt played some strong female figures -- Britain's only female prime minister Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady" to culinary genius Julia Child -- but she still thinks women are underrepresented in Hollywood and beyond. "'It would be nice to have a woman President. I think half the Senate should be women, half of Parliament, half the ruling mullahs" she once said. It seems she's a big fan of Hillary Clinton too.

Streep has also been outspoken about the sexualization of women in Hollywood. Following "the period when a woman was attractive and marriageable or something—not ‘marriageable.’ F******* I guess is the word…they really didn’t know what to do with you…” She said in an interview with Vanity Fair. Streep credits her success to not being pigeonholed in the same way.

9. She's perfectly comfortable in her own skin, and that's what makes her a great role model.
"For young women, I would say, don’t worry so much about your weight. Girls spend way too much time thinking about that, and there are better things," Streep said after being awarded an honorary degree earlier this year. "For young men, and women, too, what makes you different or weird, that’s your strength. Everyone tries to look a cookie-cutter kind of way, and actually the people who look different are the ones who get picked up. I used to hate my nose. Now, I don’t.”

Well, there you have it.

Mary Steenburgen's 'Orange Is The New Black' Season 3 Role Revealed

$

Last week Mary Steenburgen announced via Twitter that she was joining the cast of "Orange Is the New Black" for Season 3.

In a tweet from June 12, which has since been deleted, the actress wrote, "Very excited to go to my first wardrobe fitting of OITNB! Will I be in orange or black?:)" It was a mystery whether or not Steenburgen would be joining the inmates or the Correction Officers. Now we know that her character is someone else entirely, and it's perfect for her. According to TV Line, Steenburgen will be playing Mendez, a.k.a. Pornstache's mom, and we couldn't picture anyone else better to mother the much despised "mustachioed sh*t."

Why do we think she's so great for the part? She's already mothered Will Ferrell's outrageous and temperamental Bennan in "Step Brothers," so she can probably deal with Pornstache. After all, we bet he's going to really need his mom in Season 3 after what happened this season.

Apparently Khloe Kardashian didn't see Pharrell Williams' Elle UK cover for July, as her recent Instagram of herself wearing a Native American headdress is unsurprisingly sparking some heat.

Kardashian captioned the photo "Ray of clouds. Chirping of birds. Gurgling of water. Granting desire. One with water.," which was probably an equally poor decision as the photo was in the first place.

The Instagram has received a number of negative comments, ranging from disappointed to disgusted, while a select few have stepped up to defend the reality TV star's choice of headwear, generally telling others to "chill out."

The photo was taken during Kimye's birthday festival for their one-year-old daughter North West on Saturday, June 21, cleverly titled "Kidchella." Kylie Jenner also shared a close-up photo with Khloe in her Native American headdress.
