This New App Will Solve Your Netflix Problem

Netflix is our drug of choice.

Whether it's for watching movies or binging on TV series, the video subscription service is the dealer we all go to when feeding our entertainment addiction. But for all of the good it's brought to the world, Netflix does have one major flaw: too many choices.

How many times have you sat in front of the television, twirling your Wii remote in the air, exhausted by the unlimited options before you. Yes, there are some amazing shows and newly released movies. But how do you choose between "House of Cards" and "Orange Is the New Black"? Do you want to satisfy you're rom-com craving with "The Sweetest Thing" or a Nicholas Sparks movie? And just when you think you've made what seems to be the toughest decision of your life by picking a "Breaking Bad" marathon over "The Walking Dead", you realize "Mean Girls" is now available and you have to rethink your entire weekend because of it.

Indecision has become a regular part of our lives thanks to Netflix, but now we no longer have to suffer with picking paralysis. There's an app for that.

Netflix Roulette is a new website promising some much needed relief to those struggling with what to choose when it comes to Netflix programming. Also available as an app, the Netflix Roulette widget takes the agonizing decision-making out of picking a movie or TV show to watch. All you have to do is pick a genre -- or select all -- and click boxes to show movies and/or TV shows in the results. You don’t need a Netflix account to hit "spin," but you do need one to start watching the title that comes up.

While it doesn't promise to offer something good, the website does offer something, which is probably more than what you started with when you first logged in and it also might uncover some hidden Netflix gems you might have forgotten about.

"The Daily Show" has added another new correspondent to "The Best F*ing News Team Ever!" In March, the show introduced, Jordan Klepper, the first addition to the show's cast in two years. And just this morning, Comedy Central announced that comedian and "SNL" writer Michael Che will join the show as a correspondent in June.

Che, who has been a fixture of the New York comedy scene for several years now, joined "Saturday Night Live" as a full-time writer in 2013. He won "New York's Funniest Stand-Up" in 2012 and has been featured on multiple "best of" comedy lists since, including Rolling Stone's "50 Funniest People" and Variety's "10 Comics to Watch."

Over the last year at "SNL," Che was responsible for some of the most-talked-about sketches, including "12 Years A Slave Auditions" and "The Hit":

Che was also recently seen performing stand-up on "Late Night With Seth Meyers."

With this latest hiring, the "Daily Show" now has a total of seven correspondents, including Che and Klepper, Samantha Bee, Jason Jones, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi and Jessica Williams. Current contributors are Lewis Black, John Hodgman, Kristen Schaal and Larry Wilmore.

TLC's Former Manager, Perri 'Pebbles' Reid, Files $40 Million Lawsuit Against Viacom

Just when you thought you'd heard the last of TLC's public battle with former manager Perri "Pebbles" Reid, a new twist has come up. Reid has finally taken legal action against VH1's parent company, Viacom, for what she called "many false and defamatory statements" made about her in the network's original TLC biopic, "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story."

The New York Post reports that Reid, who is also a singer and music executive, filed a $40 million lawsuit against Viacom on Friday over the 2013 film. The suit claims that "CrazySexyCool" portrays Reid "as a conniving and dishonest business woman who hoodwinked three innocent girls and exploited their talent for her own personal gain," and alleges that the network "ignored fundamental canons of journalistic and literary conduct by publishing false and defamatory accusations with actual malice."

The suit also states that Reid never withheld the trio's contract terms, and never controlled their lawyers or accountants, contrary to what is depicted in the film.

Since the movie's record-breaking premiere last October -- it proved to be VH1's most-watched original movie of all time -- Reid has been very outspoken in denouncing the biopic through an array of media interviews. She has also released a statement on her website:

First I want to thank all of you for the well wishes and prayers. I apologize for the delay in responding to the movie, but I wanted to gather my thoughts. I have always been a private person and this unprovoked attack has been extremely upsetting to me and my family. I have needed time to spend with my family and for personal reflection.

The movie contains many false and defamatory statements and scenes about me. Please know that I have never cheated or misled anyone. I will defend my reputation, accomplishments, and character. My attorney is in the process of demanding a retraction of the false and defamatory statements and scenes about me from VH1.

Friendship. Never. Ends.

That's clearly the case for the Spice Girls, who reunited this weekend in London to celebrate Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice's 40th birthday. Ten days after the singer-turned-fashion designer officially entered a new decade, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Mel C (Sporty Spice) rang in the happy occasion at the London Art's Club on April 27.

"Girls night out," Mel C wrote on Instagram, posting the below photo of herself and Bunton:

Noticeably absent from the soiree was Mel B, who is currently in Los Angeles filming "America's Got Talent" auditions with Heidi Klum, Howard Stern and Howie Mandel.

Still, Posh has plenty of people to celebrate with, including her husband David Beckham, brother Christian Adams, sister Louise Adams, director Guy Ritchie and newly-single Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

Bleachers Premieres New Song 'Shadow,' Brings The Summer Heat We've Been Waiting For

Jack Antonoff gave fans a preview of a new Bleachers song "Shadow" via the Bleachers hotline last week. Now, courtesy of Pigeons and Planes, the full version of the track is now available. "Shadow" continues Antonoff's promise of a retro-'80s-pop sound, with a particularly tropical shade mixed in.

“‘Shadow’ was one of the first songs I wrote for Bleachers,” Antonoff told Pigeons and Planes. “It started as that loop beat, one electric and the arp juno in the chorus. Over the past year I would add something like once a month -- vocal samples, bomb sounds, acoustic guitars, etc. it became the blueprint for how the whole album was made. The song is about a New Yorker article I read about how everyone has a shadow, or a lesser version of themselves that only they can see. For example: I’m probably not the worst, but my shadow is a piece of garbage who is always the loudest person in the room and everyone can’t stand.”

Chris Martin Opens Up About Split From Gwyneth Paltrow, Blames His 'Own Issues'

The media has been particularly unkind to Gwyneth Paltrow, insinuating that she's to blame for her split with Chris Martin after nearly 11 years of marriage. But in a new interview, the Coldplay frontman breaks his silence on their "conscious uncoupling," and says he's the one to blame.

"I wouldn't use the word breakdown," Martin told BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, when asked if the breakdown of his marriage to Paltrow inspired the band's new album "Ghost Stories."

"This was more a realization about trying to grow up basically. Like I said, if you can't open yourself up, you can't appreciate the wonder inside. So you can be with someone very wonderful, but because of your own issues you cannot let that be celebrated in the right way," he explained

The 37-year-old musician continued, telling Lowe, "What changed for me was -- I don't want to go through life being scared of it, being scared of love, being scared of rejection, being scared of failure. Ever since our band came out, we have been a very polarizing group because we do a certain thing very well ... About two years ago I was a mess really because I can't enjoy the thing that we are good at and I can't enjoy the great things around me because I'm burdened by this -- I've got to not blame anyone else and make some changes."

Martin and Paltrow announced they had decided to separate on March 25 when they posted a letter explaining their "conscious uncoupling" on the 41-year-old actress' lifestyle site GOOP.

Nicole Richie Takes Personal Style To The Next Level In Paper Mag

From "The Simple Life" to the style maven of our pastel-colored dreams, Nicole Richie has launched herself into the wonderful world of fashion and beauty -- and her feature in Paper magazine's May issue with the Coveteur, doesn't disappoint.

Richie poses around her glorious (yes, glorious) Los Angeles, California backyard and garden, wearing a multitude of amazing clothes, accessories and such, but it's her purple hair that's really making our day. Plus, she's got the bravado to back up her rad style, as Richie told the mag:

"My idea of being a grown-up was living behind a white picket fence and changing who you were -- getting a bob and wearing beige, but I found freedom through my brand and being myself and being able to do it my way."

Although the lilac hair is momentous on it's own, her pompadour bangs and pretty braided updo stands the test of time, and warms our hair-bored hearts. And, it seems as if we need to step up our cat-eye game, because Richie is shutting it down, of course.

Donald Sterling's Wife, Shelly, Can't Decide If Her Estranged Husband Is Racist Or Not

Some of life's more important questions require careful deliberation.

For Shelly Sterling, the estranged wife of embattled Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, one of those questions is, "What should I do about my husband, who may be an overt racist?"

So far, judging by what she's said in public since a recording emerged in which a man, possibly Sterling, can be heard going off on a racist rant, her answer has been to both denounce him as "despicable," and also to defend him outright.

"Our family is devastated by the racist comments made by my estranged husband. My children and I do not share these despicable views or prejudices," Shelly told TMZ in a statement Sunday. "We will not let one man’s small-mindedness poison the spirit of the fans and accomplishments of the team in the city we love. We are doing everything in our power to stand by and support our Clippers team."

She attended the Clippers playoff game Sunday dressed entirely in black, perhaps in support of players who have taken to wearing black socks and armbands in protest.

Hours later, however, Shelly and Donald emerged from a restaurant together, and she loudly defended him to members of the press. "People want to know, Mr. Sterling. Are you a racist?" asked a photographer. Donald responded with silence, while Shelly said, "Of course [he's not racist]," and "It's not true!"

TMZ obtained a video of the encounter and published it online Monday.

Top 5 Tips for Helping Lead a Productive and Happy Team

$
0
0
Let me start with a personal experience. In a former job, I worked for someone one might call a "micromanager." This person was very nice, but would ask why I came in at 8:03 a.m. (instead of 8). Mind you, I was not an hourly, non-exempt employee. I didn't work in a call center nor was I a shift worker who needed to relieve a tired colleague. I managed my workflow independent of others. Frequently, I worked past 5 p.m. and on most days, I ate lunch at my desk. So, why did I come in at 8:03? Traffic was heavier than normal that day. I left my home at the same time every day -- some days I would arrive at work at 7:45 a.m. and others at 9 a.m.

Sadly, I was never able to work from home due to a lack of trust from management, who always seemed to wonder whether I was doing laundry or what would happen if someone couldn't get ahold of me. Needless to say, this situation, combined with the commute, motivated me to find a job where I would feel valued and trusted.

Jump ahead a few years and I am managing a team of 11. My main goal is for them to be happy and productive. How do I optimize that experience for them? By not micromanaging and allowing them to work where they work best. That may be the office. That may be a cafe. Or it may be their home. I care about the output and their work towards their clearly communicated goals. I care about our clients getting excellent service and about client satisfaction and employee happiness.

This winter has shown employers in many cities on the East Coast opportunities for flexible work arrangements. If you know the weather is going to be questionable, why not take the stress out and keep your employees safe by having them work from home? Furthermore, as detailed in TriNet's January SMBeat, research showed that DC Metro area residents have the longest commute times across the TriNet worksite employee population averaging 31.2 minutes each way, while the Atlanta, San Francisco Bay and Chicago metro areas have about the same average commute time as the TriNet worksite employee population average of 28.7 minutes. Why not give those employees that time back in productivity? I understand that not every job can be done from home and some jobs are not suited to telecommuting, so use some discretion.

So without any further ado, here are my top five tips for successfully allowing flexibility and reclaiming hours of productivity as a result of cutting out the commute time:

1. Evaluate by position (not person) whether the role can be performed remotely.

If you have multiple people in the same role, treat them the same (unless there is a reason not to -- for example, if you have a policy prohibiting people from working from home and someone requires a reasonable accommodation for a disability or a flexible work arrangement as mandated by some local laws, you may need to allow that person to work from home, but not others). If you do allow employees to work remotely, a telecommuting policy/agreement is a good idea to give employees a clear understanding of issues relating to costs, equipment, insurance, safety and security.

2. Set S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound) goals.

These can be measured and provide a framework for success. Check in regularly on progress towards the goals and course-correct where needed.

3. Clearly communicate your expectations.

If you want your team members to meet with you in the office for a team meeting or one on one discussion, set that expectation up front.

4. Do not assume that because someone is not physically present, he or she is not working.

Unless deadlines are being missed or customers are complaining, allow your team the freedom to do their best work. I have known plenty of people who come into the office and barely work. Presence doesn't equal productivity.

5. Evaluate whether work needs to be done during traditional business hours.

There are a variety of jobs that can allow for flexibility in work hours, but full work hour flexibility is not appropriate for all roles, particularly ones that require employees to be available to clients or customers during traditional business hours.

I encourage you to think outside the box when it comes to allowing flexibility for your teams. Ask individuals how they best work. Try it out, I bet you will not be disappointed in the results and it's a great way to show trust and keep your employees happy.

Amal Alamuddin: Who Is George Clooney's Fiancee?

After years of dating actresses, models, cocktail waitresses and a former professional wrestler, we can't say we're surprised that the woman who convinced George Clooney to commit is a successful lawyer.

Yes, the perpetual bachelor is officially engaged to Amal Alamuddin. If you're wondering why you haven't heard her name before, it's because the couple were only spotted for the first time together in October.

The 36-year-old was born in Lebanon and studied law at both Oxford University and New York University School of Law. She now specializes in international law, human rights, extradition and criminal law for the firm Doughty Street Chambers in London, and has been representing WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in his fight against extradition from Sweden since 2011.

In addition to topping the list of the 21 Hottest Barristers in London, by Tumblr user Your Barrister Boyfriend, Alamuddin is a scholar, having co-edited the book "The Law and Practice of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon," and co-authored an article in the Journal of International Criminal Justice.

What's more, she has also been "appointed to number of UN commissions including as adviser to Special Envoy Kofi Annan on Syria, and as Counsel to the Inquiry launched by UN human rights rapporteur Ben Emmerson QC into the use of drones in counter-terrorism operations," according to her profile on Doughty Street Chambers' website.

As we said, we're not surprised Alamuddin is the woman to end Clooney's days of playing the field.

Now that the cast and crew of AMC's "The Walking Dead" are preparing to head back to Atlanta to deal with the zombie apocalypse, fans are itching to know what to expect for Season 5 of the show.

Norman Reedus who plays crossbow wielding Daryl Dixon is promising next season will be one of the craziest yet. “From what I know, it’s gonna be just completely insane,” Reedus told Entertainment Weekly. “I sort of knew I needed like a good month to rest to jump in. The storyline they’re throwing me is a thousand miles an hour.” Reedus sat down with EW to talk about the fast pace of the new season and why creator Robert Kirkman likes to keep everyone in the dark when it comes to what happens on the show.

Miley Cyrus' Backyard Is As Bizarre As You Probably Expected

A Hollywood sign? Check. A life-sized horse? Yep. A teepee? You betcha.

These three things can be found in the backyard of none other than Ms. Miley Cyrus, whose house was featured in an Instagram video uploaded by Katy Weaver. On Friday, April 25, Weaver, girlfriend of Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, shared some shots from Cyrus' house.

"Makin pancakes @mileycyrus 's house after a funnnnn night of Lucy in the sky videos and Love couches! #lovemoneyparty," Weaver wrote. Last month, Cyrus hit the studio with Flaming Lips to collaborate on a cover of "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds," Rolling Stone noted.

In Cyrus' kitchen, there are rainbow roses. A Hollywood sign hangs on a wall above some couches in her backyard. A teepee can be found beside the pool. There is also a huge white horse standing in the grass.

While these might've been used as props for videos, these are very likely staples at Cyrus' home. The teepee was created by Nomadics Tipi Makers and given to her as a 21st birthday gift from her family, E! News reported in November. And the horse statue looks identical to the stallion Cyrus posed topless on for her "Adore You" cover.

'Game Of Thrones' Says Goodbye To The First Cat Of Westeros

You got to be kitten me!

Ser Pounce, the adorable fluff ball who made an appearance in last week's "Game of Thrones" episode won't be making another cat-meo (that's the last one, we promise) this season. During Sunday night's episode, the furry feline and beloved pet of the new King Tommen popped up to steal the show after Margery snuck into the boy-king's chambers to discuss marriage and other things far too advanced for the poor kid.

It was revealed Ser Pounce has been Tommen's companion for some time and even attracted the ire of the late King Joffrey who threatened to skin him alive and feed him to his little brother. Thankfully that didn't happen, but, rather unfortunately, the cat won't be back for any more episodes of Season 4. Hopefully Ser Pounce will return to the TV series at some point as he is mentioned in books four and five of George R.R. Martin's series.

Until then, farewell, Ser Pounce!

Ellen DeGeneres Joins Boycott Of Dorchester Collection Hotel Chain Over Brunei's Anti-Gay Penal Code

Ellen DeGeneres minced few words when it came to Brunei's controversial new penal code which includes capital punishment for same-sex acts.

The media icon, 56, tweeted her plans to boycott the Dorchester Collection, a Brunei-owned luxury hotel chain whose U.S. properties include the Hotel Bel-Air and the Beverly Hills Hotel, in response to the news, the London Evening Standard and other media outlets reported.

The star joins British comic Stephen Fry and designers Brian Atwood and Peter Som in expressing her distaste for the new code, which had been slated to take effect April 22, according to Gay Asia News and other media outlets.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the hotel chain, which is owned by the Sultan of Brunei, released a statement to WWD, saying that officials had "no involvement in this religious and political issue.”

“We continue to abide by the laws of the countries we operate in and do not tolerate any form of discrimination of any kind," the spokesperson added, according to the report. "The laws that exist in other countries outside of where Dorchester Collection operates do not affect the policies that govern how we run our hotels."

Cameron Diaz Reveals She's 'Been With A Lady'

There was no need for Cameron Diaz to plead the fifth on Monday's episode of "Watch What Happens Live," as the 41-year-old was totally forthcoming when asked if she'd ever slept with a woman.

The show's host Andy Cohen noted that Diaz recently said she thinks all women have been sexually attracted to another woman at some point, and wanted to know if she had "ever swam in the lady pond."

Diaz played coy questioning Cohen's euphemism, before he plainly asked, “Have you ever been with a lady?”

"Yes, I have been with a lady.” Diaz said, though she wouldn't say if it was an experience that happened more than once. "You didn't ask explicitly how I was with a lady, but I have been with a lady."

Cohen's questioning of Diaz's romantic history was sparked by an interview she gave Glamour U.K. in March, but it's not the first time she' s discussed the concept of sexuality. In 2010 she told Playboy:

"We are who we are. We all know what drives us," she said. "Sexuality and love can be different things. I can be attracted to a woman sexually, but it doesn’t mean I want to be in love with a woman. If I’m going to be with a woman sexually, it doesn’t mean I’m a lesbian. We put these restraints and definitions on people, but it’s hard to define."

Prince Harry, Cressida Bonas Break Up? Rumor Has It Royal Couple Calls It Quits

It's been three full years since his brother made it to the altar, but Prince Harry seems to be farther from marriage than ever. People reports that the British prince and his girlfriend of over a year, Cressida Bonas, have split up. An unnamed source tells the magazine, "He found her too needy and it just wasn't working out."

Rumors that the relationship, which started up in 2012, was on the rocks have been circulating for several days, with Showbiz Spy reporting on Monday that Cressida actually dumped the prince. According to those reports, the 25-year-old was hesitant about plunging into royal life, a sentiment attributed to her in multiple reports over the past year. Her brother Jacobi Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe told the Evening Standard back in November 2013, "It's challenging, you can't deny it. It's not something that is easy for anyone dating a royal or marrying into the family or anyone in the royal family themselves."

A report from the Daily Mail earlier this month sounded the same tone, with sources saying Cressie (as she's known to pals) "has yet to make up her mind about what she wants to do." As a twenty-something living independently in London, Cressie has always maintained her status as a "normal" girl, attending music festivals and going shopping and generally living a life far from the royal scene.

And Prince Harry has, for the most part, operated on his own as well. Just today, the prince attended an event for wounded soldiers at a training camp in Tidworth, Wiltshire, fulfilling his royal duties like nothing had changed. Cressida attended her first official event alongside Harry just last month, cuddling with her boyfriend in the stands at Wembley Arena.

But according to People's source, the couple, once predicted to make it all the way to the royal altar, are over. Clarence House, for what it's worth, has made no formal confirmation one way or another.

Let's take a moment to shed some tears for the princess in scrunchies who might have been.
