Elka Wants Justin Bieber's Hair On 'Hot In Cleveland'

Huey Lewis was in the news on "Hot in Cleveland" (Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on TV Land) as his rock star character was back in Cleveland to record an all-star charity single with his estranged musical partner, and a ton of other musicians like Justin Bieber. Bieber wasn't seen on camera, but that didn't stop Elka from trying to get her hands on his hair for her own charity.

Victoria was excited to see Johnny Revere (Lewis) as she thought they could rekindle their romance. She became a fit of jealousy when she found out he was engaged to marry a 22-year old back-up singer. So she tried to make Johnny jealous by pretending to start a relationship with his old partner. Unfortunately, the guy was a drunken wreck, leaving Victoria to play both parts in their make out sessions.

That was still better than Melanie thinking she was making out with David Gates from the band Bread, only it was another guy entirely named David Gates. Meanwhile, Joy was trying to make her own musical dreams come true by posing as one of the performers in the song, only she couldn't hit the high notes.

In the end, Johnny realized he wanted Victoria and she him so they got their happy ending. Johnny's old bandmate was all broken up, so Elka gave him a shoulder to cry on. Then, after verifying that he was famous, she took a clipping of his hair for her animal charity.

Christina Applegate Fan Thrown Out Of 'Late Late Show'

For ten years starting in 1987, Christina Applegate was beamed into households as America's favorite idiot beauty on Fox's "Married... With Children." After such a long run, it's no surprise that she's still associated with that show in many people's minds. On "The Late Late Show" (Weeknights, 12:37 a.m. EST on CBS) felt the need to shout out his appreciation for her character Kelly Bundy.

For his troubles, he was escorted from the room by security. "They'll rough him up outside as well," Craig Ferguson said.

Applegate thought it was sad to see him ejected like that. "You can cuss like a drunken sailor up here, but one guy's like' Whoa, I love you!' [and it's] 'Get out!" she said.

When Ferguson started to tout his own appreciation for Kelly Bundy, Applegate felt it was her responsibility to remind him that she wasn't yet of legal age through the whole show's run. While Applegate said she wasn't yet 18 through most of the series run, she actually turned 18 in the middle of the third season. Episodes after that are perfectly acceptable for appreciating her character's dress style and appearance.

Christina Applegate appears in "Up All Night," Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBC. "The Late Late Show" airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. EST on CBS.

Courteney Cox and David Arquette have continued to support each other since their separation in October 2010. Last month, the former couple stepped out for a celebratory dinner marking Arquette's year of sobriety. And when Arquette competed on "Dancing With the Stars" this past fall, Cox and daughter Coco cheered him on from the front row.

When Cox was a guest on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show Wednesday, she revealed that Arquette has been encouraging her to embrace single life: "He says to me, 'Courteney, it's time. Get out there.' He wants me to date now. He wants me to start my life, and he's comfortable with whoever that would be [with]."

But the 47-year-old "Cougar Town" actress admits she's not ready to re-enter the dating game, and has been celibate since her marriage ended. "I have not had a man since David ... No guy has asked me out," she claims.

However, she assures Stern that she'll be seeking romance again soon: "Right now, I'm not quite ready to date. I'm getting closer ... as things become more final in my life with David."

Shiri Appleby: Are You Marrying The Right Person? Take This Test To Find Out

$
0
0

I know this is a strange desire, but I secretly wish there was such a thing as a marriage test. Now hear me out before you call me crazy. I know our school days are behind us and I'm not asking to reenroll in a six period, high school lifestyle anytime soon. But what I do miss from those days is how simple things were. You studied for a test, spewed out what you could remember and got your grade back in a matter of days. Honestly, I wasn't the best test taker in the world. I'm not one of those people who are so intelligent that they can magically guess the answer correctly or someone who finds studying beneath them. I'm your average girl who's not a big fan of failure. When these important tests would come my way, I'd study to the best of my ability to make sure I did what I could to pass the class and find my way out of my parents' household as quickly as possible.

So now I'm at the stage in life where people all around me are married and popping out babies like they're on a race to Cedar's Sinai -- LA's hottest hospital. The 60 percent divorce rate scares the hell out of me; so much so that I'm left wondering where the test is that would cure all this anxiety. I mean, we take two tests to get a driver's license, we subject ourselves to essays and multiple-choice exams for college acceptance, another to become an American citizen, and we spend months of our lives studying to pass the Bar. I mean, we're at the point where we are now testing our toddlers on their potential upon entering preschool but nowhere is there a test to become a spouse, or for that matter, a parent. It's like we are testingaholics, only the one thing we desperately need a test for (i.e. marriage) doesn't exist.

Since I'm not married myself, I don't have any expert advice on what a marriage test should include. Yet, since I'm a straight A student in the school of life, I've asked a group of my female friends and family who are married and some who have been divorced, what they think is worth testing before making a trip down the aisle. From sending the emails to my lady friends, the overwhelming response I received was that no matter what the specific response is to one question or 10, what's important for two people who are becoming one to agree on, are their values as a couple. It makes sense, right? I mean, you can never predict what's going to happen. Everyone can enter into their union with the best of intentions and then life gets in the way but I'm not going to let that stop me from trying. I'm choosing to focus on the fact that you only need a good shot at winning to beat expectations. Anything past that, like everything in life, is a matter of desire and a lot of hard work.

The only thing better than an action movie starring Denzel Washington? An action movie starring Denzel Washington that uses Jay-Z or Kanye West as trailer music! In the case of "Safe House," both artists get the honors ("No Church in the Wild" from "Watch the Throne"), making the latest Denzel-plays-the-heavy vehicle seem that much cooler.

Of course, "Safe House" isn't the first film to feature Hova or Yeezy in its marketing campaign. (Thank goodness for that, right?) Ahead, a brief history of songs by Jay-Z and/or Kanye West being used in movie trailers.

Chelsea Handler Discusses Her Abortion On 'The Rosie Show'

Abortion is a delicate topic of conversation in general, but Rosie O'Donnell and Chelsea Handler dove right into it on "The Rosie Show" (Weeknights, 7 p.m. EST on OWN). Handler talked about her own experience as a 16-year old girl who got pregnant. At the time, she felt determined to keep the baby.

"I was so delusional," she said. "I was like, 'I'm ready for a baby.'"

Her parents had a very different perspective, pushing her toward having an abortion right away. "You're throwing your entire life away," they told her. "You're supposed to create a life for yourself. We want you to enjoy your life and not be raising a child, and we're certainly not going to raise it for you."

O'Donnell cited opponents of the landmark Roe v. Wade court case that legalized abortions coming out and saying that the abortion they had ruined their lives. "That's not the stuff I've heard from my friends who've had abortions," she said. Listen, not that it was a casual thing that they never think about again, but it wasn't a life-defining negative thing."

Handler has no regrets about her decision, feeling that she certainly wouldn't have been a good mother to the child. "you should do whatever you want with your body and you shouldn't let anyone tell you what to do," she said.

Chelsea Handler can be seen Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. EST on "Are You There, Chelsea?" and on "Chelsea Lately" weeknights at 11 p.m. EST on E!. "The Rosie Show" airs weeknights at 7 p.m. EST on OWN.

Michael Showalter Says 'Absolutely Yes' To 'Wet Hot American Summer' Sequel

"Watch What Happens Live" (Weeknights, 11 p.m. EST on Bravo) is fast becoming the go-to place to get scoops on TV shows, movie projects and celebrity gossip.

"Wet Hot American Summer" writer and star Michael Showalter stopped by Wednesday night and answered the question fans have been dying to ask: Is there going to be a "Wet Hot American Summer" sequel?

"Absolutely yes, one hundred percent yes," said Showalter. "The whole gang, everyone's back, we're doing it."

So there you have it: Confirmation straight from Coop himself.

"Wet Hot American Summer" didn't exactly set the box office on fire when it was released in 2001, but since then cast members like Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Banks have gone on to hit the big time, and the teen comedy satire has garnered a huge fanbase and cult status.

Helped, no doubt by the fact that the cast list now reads like a comedy "Who's Who."

Rumors of a much-longed-for sequel have been doing the rounds since last summer when cast members Christopher Meloni, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garofalo and David Hyde Pierce all told "Entertainment Weekly" that they would love to do it.

Later on, Showalter took part in a very messy blindfold challenge. "Top Chef" host Padma Lakshmi tried to feed him mystery ingredients from a squeezy bottle, but when most of the food dripped onto the Bravo clubhouse floor, host Andy Cohen had to intervene to save the precious rug.

Tune in for more scoops on "Watch What Happens Live," Weeknights at 11 p.m. EST on Bravo.

'Modern Family': Greg Kinnear Too Friendly With Claire

Greg Kinnear stopped by the Dunphy household on "Modern Family" (Wed., 9 p.m. EST on ABC), playing Tad, a business associate of Phil's. But while Phil was more than enthusiastic about the opportunities Tad was presenting to him, Claire was a lot more concerned with the fact that Tad kept kissing her on the lips.

She was convinced that Tad was trying to make a pass at her, but Phil just wasn't seeing it. When Tad invited them to his house, Claire learned that Tad wasn't making a pass at her -- he kisses everyone (except Phil apparently) on the lips. She was more concerned that Phil wasn't getting jealous, but once Claire started laughing at Tad's jokes, Phil's jealous side came out. Nobody makes Claire laugh except for Phil!

Jealousy ran rampant through the family, with both Cam and Gloria getting jealous of one another. Their feud created plenty of hilarious moments in Gloria's house, culminating in a smooth choreographed cooking session in the kitchen once they'd made up. It was the first time we'd seen this pair bicker, but there was love behind every disagreement, as always.

Even Luke stepped in to help his sisters out when they started fighting uncontrollably. Of course, he paid the ultimate price for his helpful meddling when they brought back something that must have horrified him as a child: Betty Luke. To make it even better, when Phil and Claire came back, they were excited to see "her," as they'd failed to get a good picture the last time Betty made an appearance.

Watch "Modern Family" every Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.

'Castle' Scoop: Jennifer Beals On Playing Castle's Former Muse

Jennifer Beals is returning to TV for a two-episode arc on "Castle," and her CIA agent character Sophia Turner will be stirring up emotions between Castle and Beckett. Could her history with Castle finally inspire Beckett to share her true feelings for him once and for all and maybe return those three little words?

In the upcoming episode, "Pandora" (Mon., Feb. 13, 10 p.m. EST on ABC), and its follow-up on Feb. 20, "Linchpin," the stakes have never been higher for Castle and Beckett as they work with Sophia and the CIA to solve an international conspiracy that could have a massive effect on the U.S.

I caught up with Beals, who was cagey about whether or not her past with Castle was romantic at all, but she did reveal that he shadowed Sophia years ago and modeled his character Clara Strike after her ... meaning Beckett isn't his first muse. She also talked about Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic's onscreen chemistry (calling it "magical"), whether or not this could spark a "Castle" spinoff for her character and, knowing that we begged for it, what it'll take to get her back on TV full-time.

First off, I miss "Chicago Code." Gone too soon ...
I miss it, too. I love that character. She was such a badass. And I loved working with the CPD, and we had a great cast. I was just excited about it.

For this two-parter on "Castle," you're playing CIA Agent Sophia Turner, who at least feels a bit like "Chicago Code's" Teresa Colvin. Are there any similarities?
Teresa is much more practical, and I think, tougher. On the outside, Teresa's much tougher. Sofia, on the inside, is steel. She has an intellectual capacity that's pretty intense at times. You know, Teresa's like Chicago ... what would be the word for it? Not muscular in the sense of the body, but muscular in the sense that like Carl Sandburg would've used the word. She's much more ready to get in and get things done herself if she needs to. But it's funny, I hadn't thought about that!

How did this part come about?
First, I wasn't sure if I would do it. I wasn't very familiar with the show. I have friends who love the show, and who were really excited about the possibility. I went in and met with Andrew [Marlowe] and David [Amann] and they were really lovely and had interesting ideas, but I didn't have a script. So I just had to go on good faith and instinct, and I'm really glad I did.

Not to make more out of it before these two episodes have even aired, but knowing that it's a two-parter and that she has such history with Castle, this seems primed to be a spinoff.
Well, um ... yeah, I mean ... I don't know that that's really possible. But, yes, I think it's a deeper relationship because he partially based his Clara Strike character on her. So the audience gets that little tidbit.

Yes, and with Beckett inspiring Nikki Heat, I'd imagine she's not too thrilled to meet one of Castle's former muses. Your character ruffles some feathers, doesn't she?
Whose? Whose feathers would she be ruffling? [Laughs.] Beckett would have to speak to that herself, but I think it certainly complicates things a bit, because it's another person that she didn't know about. And I think it's probably a more important person because there was enough about this person that was interesting that he decided to put it into a character. So that might be problematic in some ways.

Was it a romantic relationship?
You'll get to find out.

Did you have fun shooting these episodes? I love that set.
I had so much fun working with those guys. I had fun playing her, but I really had fun on the set. It's like the hardest working crew I think I've ever seen. The longest hours ... and still so professional and lovely. Nathan is really fun to hang out with, and he just made me laugh all the time. And he's very Mr. Techno Guy. I am not involved with any social media whatsoever, and I'm just really proud that I have a phone with which I can text. [Laughs.] I have an iPad! I feel pretty red hot that I have an iPad, not that I really know how to work it to its fullest capacity. [Laughs.] So he introduced me to some different apps that were really fun. And Stana was really lovely, and they were both very welcoming. They're just so great together, onscreen. It's very, very interesting, because they're very different people, and then when they're onscreen together, it's just magical.

So Nathan hasn't convinced you to get on Twitter? He's kind of the gateway drug to Twitter.
Well, you know, he is the king of Twitter. He got a prize for twittering. I didn't even know that there was a prize for twittering! If I twittered, I don't know what the hell I would say. He comes up with very funny, interesting things ... I don't have those kind of synapses happening.

It's serendipitous that we're talking today because I actually just included you in our list of 13 stars we want to see back on TV.
Oh, that's so sweet! Thank you. I appreciate that.

Would you consider doing a show again so soon?
Yes, I would consider doing a show again so soon, but it would have to be really, really good. I've been so spoiled. I was so spoiled with "The L Word," I was so spoiled with "Chicago Code." I just said to my agents and manager yesterday, "It has to be really special." We're in the renaissance of television right now -- I don't want to go and do something that doesn't have any meaning to me. It's either got to be really fun or it's got to be meaningful to me, and hopefully it's both.

What do you watch on TV?
You know what I do love? I love "Enlightened." My god, Laura Dern is a genius -- just a stinking genius! I laugh really hard, and then in the middle of laughing, I'm crying. I love her character, I love the way she plays the character and I love the show.

"Castle" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.

Pat Robertson Slams 'Twilight' As Demonic

$

Pat Robertson does not have "Twilight" Fever.

On Thursday's episode of "The 700 Club," Robertson's syndicated religious TV show, the conservative Baptist minister and political activist slammed the vampire romance book and film series, calling the story about a teenage girl and her vampire lover both "demonic" and "evil."

Recalling a story about a friend who exorcised a spirit from a young girl, Robertson claimed that the demon had been invited in by the young girl after she had gone to see one of the films in the series.

"Yes, I think those vampire movies are evil," Robertson said. "There are no vampires, the whole thing is demonic, and it may give you some kind of thrill -- whee! -- of the spooky, supernatural, but it opens the door to the occult."

This isn't the first time complaints about the series have been lobbed against the film franchise, which is based on author Stephanie Meyer's series of books and stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. In 2009, as the series' second installment, "New Moon," was hitting theaters, the Vatican issued a statement that called it "nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern."

The irony is that Meyer is a devout Mormon whose lead protagonists, Edward and Bella, wait until marriage before they have sex.

Either way, the religious condemnation has not dampened enthusiasm for the film series; the most recent installment, "Breaking Dawn Part 1," earned more than $700 worldwide when it came out last November. The final picture in the series is due out this summer.

Vanessa Williams Hopes Her 'Desperate Housewives' Character Doesn't Get Killed Off

$

It was a meeting of the Williams Friday on "The Wendy Williams Show" (weekdays on Fox) as Vanessa Williams stopped by to talk about the final season of "Desperate Housewives."

Wendy started the interview by asking Vanessa about rumors that there will be a shocking character death during the show's stretch run, and joked that she all but assumed it would be "the black person." Vanessa couldn't say either way; the show still has seven more episodes left to shoot, she reported, and even the cast isn't given the scripts until the day before shooting."We have no idea, I just hope I'm alive," she quipped about her character Renee Perry.

Felicity Huffman, on the other hand, seems to be rooting for multiple characters to be killed off. In a January interview with The Huffington Post, she said, "I think a couple 'Housewives' should die. I think it would be good."

When Wendy's mom Sheryl, who was sitting in on the interview, asked Vanessa about the mood on the set, she reported it hadn't gotten too emotional yet. "There were no tears yet," she said, because they'll be shooting until April.

The conversation then turned to Williams' plans after the show's end, she reminded the audience just how multi-faceted a performer she is. "I've got the book that I wrote with my mom coming out in April, so we'll be out on the circuit for that. And then, back in the studio, want to make some music, maybe the theatre, then I hope to be back on another show."

Valentine's Day is all about pounded chicken breasts and "secret sealed envelopes" containing sex instructions, according to Gwyneth Paltrow's latest GOOP newsletter, in which the actress professes that "this week's newsletter is not for you. It's for your other half."

So what can Gwynnie's husband, Coldplay crooner Chris Martin, expect this upcoming rose-tinged Tuesday? Among other things, a sampling of romantic music -- Bruce Springsteen and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (huh?) -- blasted on at 7am, a blueberry breakfast parfait, pink love notes tucked into women's jeans, and "101 Nights of Grrreat Sex."

That's right: Paltrow suggests spicing things up in the bedroom with a little Kama Sutra kit -- containing things like "Love Liquid" and "Sweet Almond Massage Oil" -- and tips gleaned from the aforementioned sex book. "Sounds simple but the anticipation and mystery makes even the smallest gestures pretty thrilling," she assures us.

Robert Wallack, Esq.: Do Celebrities Divorce More Than The Rest Of Us?

$
0
0

J. Lo and Marc Anthony. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. Katy Perry and Russell Brand. Seal and Heidi Klum. The list lately of celebrities who are divorcing, or who've separated and appear headed for divorce, seems to be growing every week. And, with news of each new celebrity break-up, one of the most frequent questions/remarks I hear is "I don't understand -- they seemed so happy?". Well, to those people I say -- I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the truth is you just didn't know them, and you really never will.

In an age in which a star's every move, blunder and indiscretion is captured by paparazzi, exposed, and then instantaneously beamed around the globe by gossip (and even traditional) media outlets, most celebrities nowadays go to great lengths to try to safeguard their images. One of the ways they do this is by carefully controlling the information about them that gets released and served up to the general public. The reality is that we, the often unsuspecting populace, don't "know" these people -- we are either fed a narrative by celebs and their handlers, or we're left to create our own, based on the bits and pieces of information that they make available to us. We live in a time of hero worship -- where "celebrity" status is exalted, and those who are famous (or infamous) are idolized by many. It's not surprising then that we would be led to believe that celebrities are happy in their marriages (and other areas of their lives), or that we just assume that they are. After all, it fits our romantic notions of fame, and of the "beautiful people", and frankly, it's what we want to believe. That's why our first reaction is often surprise when we get word of yet another celebrity split.

I've handled many divorce cases involving "famous" people and I can assure you of this: celebrities aren't superhuman, they're real people just like you and me. They are fallible. They make mistakes. They face the same challenges and suffer the same problems in their relationships as we do; and their marriages fall victim to the same perils as ours, and also occasionally end in divorce.

Oftentimes it's even harder to make a "celebrity" marriage work. Most of the famous people I've known are driven and have healthy egos -- there's a reason why they got where they are, and it's not just dumb luck. And, when you put two outsize egos together in one marriage, the combination can be combustible. Add to that, the greater likelihood that the couple will have difficulties confronting and tackling issues such as privacy (and the lack thereof), making time for each other while having busy schedules, jealousy, trust, physical appearance, and money (as Notorious B.I.G. put it, "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems"). Indeed, they may not be fighting over balancing the checkbook, or who's doing the housework, or having to watch the kids, but celebrities have their own somewhat unique set of challenges in their marriages. Additionally, some celebrities are surrounded by people who constantly reinforce to them how wonderful they are. You can imagine then the problem they have, and the extreme psychic injury they suffer, when a partner loses interest, strays or wants out of the marriage.

But, as far as an "epidemic" or an "outbreak" is concerned, from my own experience and from the statistical data I've seen, there exists no such thing. The reality is that "celebrity" marriages have about the same success (and failure) rates as "normal" marriages -- they just garner a whole lot more attention and publicity. So, while we will continue to root for our favorite celebrity couples (and then express surprise if and when they end up divorcing), at least we can rest assured in the knowledge that when it comes to marriage and divorce, we are just like celebrities -- just without the paparazzi hiding in our bushes.

The "Wanderlust" actress, who admitted InStyle in a recent interview that she needs to "stop playing it safe on the red carpet," has without a doubt perfected a predictable look. From plunging necklines to thigh-skimming mini dresses to reinventing her favorite black pant suit, Aniston may feel as though she's long overdue for a makeover, but at least she knows what works for her amazing figure.

How Ryan Kwanten Landed His 'New Girl' Role

Last week, the news broke that "True Blood" star Ryan Kwanten will be guest-starring on the Valentine's Day episode of "New Girl" as Zooey Deschanel's love interest. Friday on "Good Day LA," Kwanten explained the surprisingly simple manner in which the cameo was born.

"I was very much a fan of the show anyway, so I sort of reached out to them through my agent, and said, 'Listen, if there was ever an opportunity to ever get on the show, I'd love to be able to work with Zoe ... She is the cutest," he explained. After Steve Edwards was surprised at the simplicity of how it all came together, Kwanten had to acknowledge that his other gig helped his effort considerably. "I guess being on 'True Blood' adds a little bit of cache," he admitted.

In the episode, titled "Valentine's Day," Jess deals with her first V-Day as a single lady by heading to the bar with Schmidt as her wingman. There, she meets "a handsome stranger" named Oliver, played by Kwanten, and an adorkable hook-up ensues.
