Catherine McKenzie: Top 10 Celebrity Rehab Moments

$

0

Spin is about a journalist who follows a celebrity into rehab to get the inside scoop. I'm often asked what inspired the book, whether it's based on my own experiences or on a real celebrity. The answer to the first question is: no. The answer to the second question is: kind of. And by that I mean that when I got the idea for Spin, it was a busy time on the celebrity rehab circuit. It seemed like celebrities were going in and out of rehab like they were on a circular conveyor belt. And the public's desire for every little detail was insatiable (if the amount of time that Entertainment Tonight etc. spent on the topic is a measure of anything). I remember being both fascinated and repelled by the whole thing. It seemed like some celebrities were playing the rehab card to get attention or get out of trouble when they'd attracted unwanted attention. Others were getting attention because they clearly so badly needed to be in rehab. And what was the public doing? Loving every minute of it. But what made us think that we have a right to know? It's one thing to look at photos of celebrities in their sweatpants shopping at Whole Foods. It's another to know what they're discussing during their most private moments. Rehab's supposed to be anonymous, right? That might be impossible for some celebrities, but they should be allowed as much privacy as possible, shouldn't they?

Well, not according to some, and so, as these ideas circled in my head and I watched - I admit I watched - a phalanx of paparazzi standing outside of yet another rehab facility waiting to take a shot of some young woman in trouble, I said to myself, sarcastically: why don't they just follow her in there? And then I said to myself: what a great idea for a book!

So, who were the celebrities that put this evil thought in my brain? Well ... in no particular order:

Regina King: Southland Has a Big Surprise in Store for Det. Lydia Adams

Southland has been known for its surprises.

Fans of the show will remember Nate's sudden and tragic death caught in the crossfire of a brutal gang war; Sammy returning home to learn his wife was pregnant by another man; Ben's short temper causing him to hit a civilian... more than once.

In this week's episode ("Identity"), my character Lydia joins the fray with a surprising storyline of her own. Early in the hour, we learn a shocking secret that she's kept from her colleagues for some time. Something she has no plans to reveal any time soon, because doing so could end her career as she knows it.

Although Lydia is fiercely compassionate on the job, she has worked hard for four seasons to keep her personal life intensely private. Even fans of the show, watching her life after she takes off the badge, speculate about what makes her tick. Why does she choose to remain single? Has she loved and lost? Who is Det. Lydia Adams, really?

But in last week's episode, the final minutes revealed that perhaps there is someone in Lydia's life she hasn't shown us yet. And this someone, without giving too much away, could play a big hand in her future, whether she likes it or not.

I hope that Southland fans are as excited as I am about how this surprise changes Lydia's trajectory and opens a wealth of storylines to be played out for her. Although Lydia might try to fight it, we may just get to know more about this woman we have all come to love and respect.

Watch tonight at 10/9c on TNT to see this transformative episode. Then comment here how you think this big change will affect Lydia's life, career and pursuit of her own happiness.

Don Cornelius Death Ruled A Suicide

LOS ANGELES — Coroner's officials on Tuesday ruled Don Cornelius' death a suicide, nearly a week after the "Soul Train" creator and host killed himself with a gunshot to the head.

The agency made the determination after conducting an autopsy on Cornelius' body Friday. Investigators are still awaiting the results of toxicology tests before issuing a final report.

Police quickly ruled out foul play after responding to Cornelius' Mulholland Drive home early Wednesday morning. His son had alerted authorities after receiving a call from his father.

Cornelius, 75, started "Soul Train" in 1970 and it became one of the longest-running syndicated shows in history, introducing audiences to many top music acts and providing a never-before-seen TV platform for black culture.

The popular host was honored Saturday in Harlem with a lively celebration in tribute to Cornelius and the wide-ranging influence of his show.

His son, Tony Cornelius, released a statement last week asking for privacy and thanking fans.

"We thank all the well-wishers and the fans who have supported the `Soul Train' legacy. Love, Peace and Soul," the statement read, incorporating his father's famous sign-off from the show.

In what has been hailed as a historic decision, a federal appeals court declared Proposition 8, California's same-sex marriage ban, to be unconstitutional, upholding Judge Vaughn Walker's original 2010 ruling.

Needless to say, Twitter lit up almost immediately with responses from gay celebrities and their many allies.

Tweeted Ellen Degeneres: "Today we took another step towards equality. #Prop8 was found unconstitutional again. I couldn't be happier."

RuPaul's sassy reaction was more to the point: "Prop 8, sashay away."

Check out how Kelly Osborne, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Cory Monteith and other celebrities also reacted to the Prop 8 decision below:

The world has always been infested with opinions but in the past 15 years, everyone has a platform for their views. Or a hundred seventy-five million platforms. Whereas opinions used to come in handy mainly for cocktail parties, we now need our views fully weaponized for a walk on the beach. It's all so dizzying, stressful, constant and exhausting. We know we will never get a break from it, but...

... Blank is the story of Eugene Brusca, a man who had absolutely no opinions on anything, yet became an overnight sensation as a columnist for the Los Angeles Times. Commenting on his curious case are Malcolm Gladwell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Henry Waxman, Ted Koppel and Arianna Huffington.

Which 'NCIS' Star Got His Start On 'The Cosby Show'?

Michael Weatherly is gearing up to celebrate the 200th episode of "NCIS," which he stars on as Special Agent Tony DiNozzo. And while Weatherly has enjoyed quite a run on the military procedural, he told "CBS This Morning" (weekdays, 7 a.m. on CBS) about his less-than-auspicious start in show business, which included a one-episode fill-in spot as Theo's roommate on "The Cosby Show."

Weatherly told the story of his early days as an actor and how he fell into the "Cosby" cameo. "I had nothing on my resume except stuff I made up, it was all completely fictional," he said, joking that lying was much easier in the days before IMDB and Google. "My manager represented a guy who played Theo's roommate, and he booked a movie with John Turturro and wasn't available. But I was the same size as him, so she called me and said, 'Get out to Queens, you're gonna meet Bill Cosby and if he signs off on you, you're gonna be working this afternoon, they're taping. And I met him and he was in a track suit smoking a cigar, he had a rubber chicken nailed to his dressing room door. I did okay, but they never invited me back ... it was a one shot deal."

Fortunately for Weatherly, his "NCIS" gig has lasted quite a bit longer.

The 200th episode of "NCIS" airs Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.

Wondering where Courtney Stodden has been lately? Well, we definitely found her. The aspiring model/singer/actress stars in a new commercial for FreeCreditScore.com -- and we've never seen her like this before.

The ad, which hit the Internet this week, features two amateur fishermen hoping to score a sweet catch. After one guy's attempt comes up short, he throws in a bigger hook and finds none other than Stodden, dressed as a mermaid, on the end of his line.

How this whole scene relates to someone's credit score, we don't exactly know. But from the looks of this ad, it appears Stodden is looking to break in the acting business, in addition to her attempted music career.

And if you think you've seen a proliferation of mermaids on the Web lately, you're not alone. Katy Perry's recent ghd hair-care ad, which was released in early February, features the pop star dressed as a mermaid as well.

Check out the ad above, and don't miss other Courtney Stodden photos below:

WATCH: Kim Kardashian Confused By The Frozen Food Aisle

Comedian Jamie Lee ("Last Comic Standing," "Kid Farm") watched a ton of Kardashian-related television programming over the last week after being bedridden during an illness, and although "Kardashians" and "productivity" usually oppose one another, she put the experience to good use. The result is this great parody of a video blog in which Kim Kardashian's trip to the supermarket plunges her into into a baby-voiced existential crisis.

Most of the time, we're not totally sure whether Kim Kardashian's very existence isn't just a Ryan Seacrest-produced fever dream. So thanks, Jamie, for blurring that line even further.

Big Change Coming For Grammys

Grammy show producer Ken Ehrlich had considered putting dancing/electronica music into the ceremony in the past, but could never quite figure out how to incorporate the high-energy club feel in front of a sometimes staid audience.

He thinks he's figured it out this year. For the first time, the Grammy show will put the spotlight on the genre with a segment featuring Grammy nominees Deadmau5, the Foo Fighters, Chris Brown, David Guetta and Lil Wayne, all performing in a tent space amid 1,000 fans.

"We decided to go all out this year," Ehrlich said of the performance taking place outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where Sunday's ceremony will be held. "All we're going to try and do next week is to try and put the home audience in the middle of it. ... It is more than just sitting there and watching it."

Dance music did not receive its own category until 2003 with the best dance recording/dance field, and the music had not been featured with its own segment in the show.

"I don't know that I figured out a way to do it that felt right until now," Ehrlich said in an interview Monday. "My feeling about dance is it's such an immersive experience for the participant, that to put it on stage ... where the audience is not a part of it ... I don't know, honestly, until we came up with the idea of doing it this way, I don't know if it ever would have worked."

Ehrlich calls the performance the "most ambitious number that we've ever done outside the Staples Center." It will feature at least four cameras from audience level as Deadmau5 (pronounced dead mouse) and the Foo Fighters perform his remixed version of the band's song "Rope," which netted him one of his Grammy nominations, and as Brown and Lil Wayne perform with Guetta.

Ehrlich said the performance reflects the popularity of dance music over the past few years.

"As much as a recorded medium that it is, and the fact that it's selling a lot of CDs and downloads, it's really a live experience," he said. "It is more than just sitting there and watching it."

Other performers on the show include Adele, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Brown, Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift for what Ehrlich boasted would be a "pretty amazing show."

"What I try and do when we're building this show is to think about the audience first. ... What can I do that's going to keep an audience for 3 1/2 hours watching the Grammy Awards?" he said. "I do try and look for how broad I can make it and still assume that people are going to tune in and stay with it."

Steve Lake: When the Vows Break: A Valentine for Kim Kardashian

$
0
0

We're another day closer to Valentine's Day -- the commercialized holiday of romantic love traditionally celebrated with gifts of red roses, tasty chocolates and, well, other things that too often don't last.

You know, she says she'll call you tomorrow, he promises to be faithful and the whole 'til death do us part' vow -- especially when celebrities are involved.

Too, harsh?

Sorry, as a divorce lawyer I've developed a more realistic perspective on what happens when folks get caught up in the trappings of manufactured romance that are hallmarks -- greeting card pun intended -- of Cupid's holiday.

Romance can be magical emotional experience, but it's not always love. And even true romance certainly doesn't guarantee a marriage will survive.

Take the 72-day marriage of Kim Kardashian and Whatshisname, the NBA player.

On her reality E! network show, Kim provided some tearful insight into the dangers of getting caught up in the idea that love and marriage should follow a romantic script only to later change your mind.

"I honestly feel like I can't do this anymore with Kris," the newly wed Kardashian said on her show. "I feel like I got into this way too fast. I've been trying to be happy and trying to make this work but I really feel like I got caught up in the fairytale of like this whole thing."

Because romance -- on reality TV and in real life -- can alter a person's perspective and become an persuasive internal influence that affects decisions.

Or as Kim put it, "I think he thought I was, like, such a different person and I've become a different person with him. You know and I think he definitely notices that. I feel really bad and I feel like a failure. And I just don't know what to do."

And it wasn't until after all the princess wedding romance faded -- and the checks for exclusive wedding pictures cleared, cynical tabloid readers have said -- that Kim's fairytale got a reality check. She filed for divorce. Her husband demanded an annulment. They gave the wedding gifts to charity. And now, their divorce court hearings might be televised.

Still, Kim seems to be handling the split well. She had given talk show interviews, posed for modeling sessions, tweeted her deep thoughts and reportedly returned to the dating world.

That's another reality about relationships -- even the ones that start with such promise only to quickly end in embarrassing heartbreak and a messy expensive divorce -- you don't have to let the breakup destroy you if it doesn't work out.

So this Valentine's Day try to enjoy the candy and flowers and passionate emotions of the day with the one you love. But be real. When the time comes to consider marriage, give your fairytale a reality check. Talk with your love about your plans for the future, your views on work, children and finances. Discuss the tough topics -- religion, politics and the in-laws. Take your time.

Kim Kardashian wishes she did.

"I really thought that, like, he was the one and that I wanted to be with him, but I just can't do it any more," she said. "Like, I'm not happy. I should have waited. Like, I should have dated him longer."

Moments of romance might wilt like week-old roses, but love is patient and, among other things, it lasts.

And if it doesn't last, I'm here if you need me.

After Diabetes Diagnosis, No Changes To Paula Deen's TV Shows

After the shocking revelation that Food Network host Paula Deen was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes three years ago, many questions remain. High among them: what happens to her television career? According to Food Network insiders, the celebrity chef has no plans to change the way she cooks on TV until at least 2013.

"Before Paula's announcement the producers of her show, Gordon Elliott's Follow That Productions, had delivered enough shows to run until the end of 2012," a source close to the network said. "None of the shows address her bombshell statement and none of the shows make any attempt to change the way she cooks, even though they obviously knew what was going on when she filmed them."

From a studio on her property in Savannah, Georgia, Deen shoots several shows a day over the course of several days to keep costs down. She has delivered around 34 completed episodes to the network.

"Paula shoots in February, May and the fall. There have been no major conversations between the network and her team about re-editing the shows or making changes," a network insider tells me. "As far as [Deen's people] are concerned, they have met their contractual obligation and have moved on. However, this doesn't mean that the network has to air what they have been given. They have hired a crisis PR company and are having internal conversations -- even if Paula's team doesn't wish to be part of them -- about how to proceed in this very ugly situation."

The Food Network declined to comment on the matter, while Paula Deen's representatives have yet to respond to our inquiry.

Ashton Kutcher Wants 1 Thing For His Birthday (It's Not What You Think!)

Ashton Kutcher may be single on his birthday for the first time in years, but all he's wishing for is to put an end to child sex trafficking.

Kutcher turned 34 Tuesday and posted a video message on Causes.com, asking for donations to his and his soon-to-be-ex-wife's charity, the Demi and Ashton Foundation (DNA). The organization is working to put an end to child sex slavery by educating vulnerable children, reducing demand and targeting the marketplace where such transactions take place.

The "Two and a Half Men" star hopes to raise $10,000 and said he'll match every dollar donated, up to $350,000.

"I'm determined this year to do everything in my power to make the world a better place," Kutcher said in his message. "I have a foundation that focuses on ending the sexual exploitation of children. Any help that you could give towards that would be an amazing, amazing present for me."

Kutcher told the Huffington Post that he first became interested in the cause after watching an episode of "Dateline" about sex trafficking in Cambodia.

"I was watching 6 and 7-year-old girls being raped for profit," Kutcher told the Huffington Post after launching his organization's "Real Men Don't Buy Girls" campaign. "I said to myself: I don't want to live in a world where these things are happening and I'm not doing anything about them."

Big Ang: 'Mob Wives' Is Okay Because 'Everybody's Rats'

You might wonder how the ladies of VH1's "Mob Wives" can get away with filming a reality show about their lives as peripheral members of a supposedly secret criminal organization. As Angela "Big Ang" Raiola explained Tuesday on "Good Day L.A." (weekdays, 9 a.m. PST on Fox) these days in the mob, "everybody's rats," and the reality show is the least of Cosa Nostra's problems.

Ang explained how she was arrested herself, with the help of an informant, for selling cocaine in 2001. "A girlfriend of mine, an informer, had a wire ... She went into witness protection and then we all got arrested. I did house arrest ... We had parties every day for six months," she said.

When Gillian Reynolds pressed Ang on the contradictions involved with airing a real-life mafia show on TV, she explained that the mafia's code of silence no longer exists. "How could it be secretive? Everybody's rats ... There's no more secrets, they're all ratting each other out. It's over," she explained.

So while the mafia may not be a crime family anymore, Big Ang doesn't have to worry about her real family disapproving of the show. "Thank god they're dead," she said.

Laura Giangiulio: Courting Hollywood -- Building Successful Celebrity-Cause Partnerships

$
0

Hollywood stars have a unique gift. It's not the ability to make audiences laugh (or cry), or the free swag constantly bestowed upon them. Their gift comes from the power to promote whatever they support to millions of people through talk shows, weekly magazines, and ever-growing social media followings.

Understanding this gift, most non-profits recognize the tremendous value a celebrity can offer in moving a cause forward. But not every celebrity-cause partnership is successful.

At Metro PR, I work with non-profits to find and secure the best celebrities to advance their mission, whether it's for a branded cause marketing campaign, an event host, or a long-term ambassador agreement. I've worked with NGOs of all sizes, from international organizations like the United Nations Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® to small, local charities based solely in Los Angeles.

Regardless of their size and sector, most non-profits that approach us are looking for the same thing: to bring the Hollywood voice to their cause. Yet, the next step is not always clear. What do they want from the partnership? Which celebrities make the most sense? How can they best approach talent?

Whether bringing on an outside agency or working to engage celebrities on their own, here are three things I suggest all non-profits consider prior to asking a celebrity to join their cause:

1. Know Your Goals

Knowing what you want to accomplish beforehand is imperative to creating a successful celebrity-cause partnership. Are you launching an awareness campaign? Social media is a powerful tool in promoting facts and figures, but do you want people to go the extra mile and take action? Whether you're looking for donations, volunteers or name recognition, establishing clarity in your desired outcomes will guide you toward finding the right celebrity and putting forth specific requests to reach your goals.

2. Find the Right Celebrity for Your Cause or Campaign

Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift. When we begin working with non-profits on celebrity engagement, we always ask for their "target list." Without fail, one of the two (or both) Justins and country's Golden Girl make an appearance on every list. The "mainstream is best" approach does have its benefits -- mega-talent can reach millions of people in the time it takes to hit "send" on their latest 140 word Twitter post. But is mainstream support the only way to reach your campaign's goals? And is getting one tweet from a perceived "A-lister" really as effective as you think?

We encountered a non-profit that secured a tweet from a major celebrity asking their 10 million+ fans to donate to the charity. The donation conversion rate was less than .0003 percent of total followers, raising less than $500. Conversely, we asked Disney star Bella Thorne to engage her twitter fan base of a few hundred thousand to rally around an anti-bullying effort from DoSomething.org and Lenovo. Young people re-tweeted, responded with their own thoughts on bullying, and even created their own YouTube videos about the issue. The reason? People likely subscribe to the aforementioned A-lister's twitter for fashion and relationship updates and not charity suggestions, while young people following a Disney star look to that person as a role model.

We encourage non-profits to think more strategically about product-market fit when considering celebrity ambassadors. Which celebrities support similar causes? Who is your target audience? Will the talent on your list resonate with this audience?

3. Create the Right Ask
You've assessed your goals and identified a celebrity you believe can help accomplish them. Now it's time to tailor your ask to their interest and availability. Are you approaching Tom Brady during playoff season or an SNL cast member during a show week to film a Public Service Announcement? It may look like a quick commitment on paper, but your chances of securing them are far less likely. A good ask is an educated ask.

We were hired to bring celebrity speakers to the TIME magazine summit with Opportunity Nation, which tackled economic mobility in the U.S. Prior to securing Serena Williams, we did research to learn her passion lies in education. Our ask offered a mutually beneficial opportunity: Serena would have the chance to speak to a crowd of opinion leaders about her own work on education, and the summit would have an A-list athlete make a commitment to use her resources to create opportunity in 2012 (a primary goal of the summit). We heard back with a "yes" within 24 hours.

I would be remiss if I said these three steps will secure a non-profit's No. 1 celebrity ambassador choice every time. Landing the right celebrity is also about timing, forming the right contacts, and having a bit of luck. Like with any game, you have a far better chance of winning if you prepare before going in -- hopefully these rules help you make a strong first play.

DIVORCE FINALIZED

LOS ANGELES -- A judge has granted Katy Perry and Russell Brand a divorce, although the pair won't be legally split up until July.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marc Marmaro signed the judgment Wednesday, less than six weeks after Brand filed for divorce and one day after Perry filed paperwork stating that she and Brand have agreed on all financial issues.

The exact terms of the breakup are confidential.

Brand, Perry and Marmaro all signed the judgment Wednesday, court records show. The couple will become legally single again on July 14 because California law requires that couples wait at least six months after filing before their divorce can be finalized.

The judgment calls for Perry's maiden name, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, to be restored.

Neither Brand, a British actor and comedian, or Perry, a pop superstar, indicated in court filings when they separated.

They were married in October 2010 in a lavish wedding at a resort inside a tiger reserve in India.

Their wedding came at a high-point for both of their careers. Brand was introduced to U.S. audiences after hosting the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and has since starred in films including "Arthur," "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek."

Perry has turned out a string of pop hits, including "I Kissed a Girl" and "California Gurls" and is scheduled to perform at Sunday night's Grammy Awards. She has also been nominated for two awards for her song "Firework."

Kristen Houghton: Ice Loves Coco and We Love Them Both

Okay women, a bit of fun for Valentine Day. Admit it, we all love romance and we love watching a romantic couple. The second season premiere of Ice Loves Coco is set for February 19, 2012 on the E! Entertainment Network at 10:30 pm EST and if the new season is anything like last year's it will be a pleasure to watch. They give their audience a good show and it is worth watching every minute of it. The respect and love they have in their marriage defies Hollywood stereotypes and makes it a success in every way.

Unlike the reality shows featuring amateurs and the kind of people you would avoid in real life let alone watch on TV, Ice T and Nicole "Coco" Austin bring a professional charm and savvy to their show. What you see is what you get and what you get is fun and quality.

On Super-Bowl Sunday I was privileged to interview Ice T and Coco about the new season of their hit show Ice Loves Coco and I can't remember when I had this much fun in an interview. Unlike some celebrity couples who seem to talk over each other or hog the interviewer's time, Ice T and Coco were respectful of one another. Their genuine love and caring for each other shines through. Like a comfortable married couple they shared stories about how they met and what attracted them to each other.

The pair met on the set of a music video in 2001 where Ice T was visiting some friends. To keep him occupied while they worked they introduced him to Coco. Both he and Coco saw something in each other that made them want to be a couple because they've been together for over 11 years.

Always interested in fashion, Coco was intrigued by what Ice T was wearing and adds, "I like hard core men. Ice was just that, he was an aggressive character, but he had a little flavor. At the same time he made me laugh. That's a good package right there."

In response to my question about how she knew they'd get together again after she had returned to her life in Arizona, Coco told me, "I had to come back. I left a bunch of my clothes on my side of the bed so both of us knew I'd be returning."

Ice T then invited her to go on an 11 day non-stop this-is-what-my-professional-life-is adventure of sorts. No holds-barred, this is me.

Ice T says, "She ended up coming to New York to visit. When it was time for her to go home -- I never forget -- she looked at me and she had like puppy eyes and I was like 'you don't wanna go huh?' And she's like shaking her head no. I was like 'advance to the next level of the game, because I had a great time with you and I don't want you to go.'"

They're also business partners and, in this as in other aspects of their relationship, they work well together. Though both are creative and artistic, Ice T says that Coco is more detailed-oriented than he is and that's fine. This is a man who likes a strong woman and Coco is certainly that. For the record, Coco took personal care of her mom during her life-threatening illness and endured her parents' divorce. As an adult she also helped take care of a former boyfriend who was ill.

"

You can both be strong in a marriage and support each other's goals. We're teammates, Kristen, we're not opponents and that makes a difference in a relationship,"

When I mentioned that I had written an article called "Run Your Marriage Like You Run a Business", Ice T said that a marriage should be run like a business because the business is in making sure it works and is successful. It's a commitment.

This season will cover many areas of their life together both professional and personal. On the personal side will be the issue of pregnancy and a health scare for Coco that puts the idea of getting pregnant and giving birth on the back-burner. We'll also see the couple packs their bags and get away for some much-needed rest in Hawaii and Miami and their unpredictable adventures there.

There's also the ongoing search for a "baby mama" for their beloved English bulldog Spartacus. Their affection for him touches a chord with every pet lover.

Some of Coco's professional life spills over into their personal one when she guest stars on Ice T's Law and Order: SVU series as a character called Venus. When she has to have a romantic moment with another actor, she's a bit concerned about what her husband's reaction will be.

Season two of Ice Loves Coco, beginning February 19 at 10:30 pm on E! is a show that I'll be watching with a definite recommendation that you watch too. It's fun, it's good television, and you'll enjoy every minute.

49ERS VS. GIANTS (NOT THOSE GIANTS): Local Sports Stars Face Off At Pebble Beach Links

On Tuesday, the San Francisco 49ers took to the green to battle the Giants (not those Giants -- the ones from San Francisco) for the Pebble Beach 49ers vs. Giants Charity Shoot-Out.

Team Giants (including pitcher Matt Cain, broadcasters Mike Krukow and Dave Fleming and former first baseman Will Clark) instantly scored bonus points with us for sporting fantastically festive pants and caps, while Team 49ers (Coach Jim Harbaugh, quarterback Alex Smith, Jerry Rice, Dwight Clark and Brent Jones) showed up in polos and khakis. (Yawn.)

While the 49ers annihilated the Giants (4-1!), everyone was a winner when the two teams raised $100,000 for local charities.

Check out a video of the day from the San Jose Mercury News, as well as a slideshow for some shots of Tuesday's game, courtesy of the Associated Press. And keep an eye out for a few shots from the glory days, too!
