Jon Hamm To Undergo Throat Surgery To Remove Polyp

His performance as the perpetually smoking Don Draper brought him an Emmy nod, but it looks like the rasp in Jon Hamm's voice isn't just due to method acting. The 42-year-old actor is set to undergo throat surgery next week after allegedly coughing up blood recently, according to multiple reports.

A rep for the actor confirmed to The Huffington Post that Hamm would be having surgery, calling it a "routine outpatient procedure to remove a single polyp from his throat." Previous reports suggested that Hamm was to remove two, not one, polyps (abnormal tissue) from the region.

Meanwhile, a report in Life & Style magazine claims the surgery news is not new for Hamm's "Mad Men" cast mates. "January Jones was talking about [Hamm's throat surgery] at the Governors Ball after party last night," a source for the publication said.

Throat Polyp: Why Jon Hamm Is Undergoing Surgery

"Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm will undergo throat surgery, a representative for the actor confirmed to the Huffington Post on Monday.

He will undergo a "routine outpatient procedure to removes [sic] single polyp from his throat," Hamm's rep told HuffPost Celebrity.

While the representative did not specify the exact location on the throat of Hamm's polyp, vocal cord polyps are known to be a common condition among people who often use their voices -- such as actors.

Vocal cord polyps can best be thought of as "blisters" on the vocal cords -- they are part of a group of noncancerous lesions, known as vocal cord lesions. Other vocal cord lesions include vocal cord nodules (which are calluses of the vocal cord) and vocal cysts (which is when scarring occurs over a duct, and then that duct becomes filled with mucus), according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Symptoms of vocal cord polyps include neck pain, having a "rough" or "scratchy" voice, fatigue, and changes in pitch range, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association reported. Polyps are often caused by long-term vocal abuse, though they can also be caused by a single incident of severe vocal abuse.

Therapy and surgery are the most common treatments for vocal cord lesions, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

If there's one thing we know about Drake, it's that the 26-year-old rapper is not afraid of showing his emotions -- just look at all the emo Instagram photos he posts!

Maybe that's why we can't stop laughing at the the Drake-centric meme below, which shows the Grammy-award winning rapper obsessing over his ex in a way we all can relate to -- he's reminded of her everywhere he turns:

Poor guy. First the "Drake is the type of guy to" jokes blow up on Twitter and now this. Good thing he recently told fans that he knows all about the memes but doesn't care that they keep cropping up.

MIA Releases Video On NFL Suit, Says Young Cheerleaders More Offensive Than Her Middle Finger

News broke last week that the NFL had been quietly waging a serious legal war against MIA, the singer who flipped off the camera during Madonna's Super Bowl performance during the 2012 halftime show. Since then, MIA has asked fans to submit evidence of NFL wrongdoing (including, but not limited to, bounties on hits, athlete injuries and post-career health issues). On Monday, the singer took things a step further by releasing a video of herself comparing what she deems the "sexual exploitation" of Madonna's backup dancers, who she says were young girls under the age of 16 and performed suggestive dances at the same moment she flipped her finger. The league wants $1.5 million from MIA.

"They're basically [saying] it's OK for me to promote being sexually exploited as a female, than to display female empowerment through being punk rock," the singer said. "That's what it boils down to, and I'm being sued for it."

Seriously, Emmys, Where Were the Sartorial Shenanigans?

While Fashion Week finishes up in Milan, the real action took place last night in Los Angeles at the Emmy Awards. As retailers follow the shows and hope for hits that translate to sales, most normal people have no idea, nor do they care, about what's going on right now in Europe on the runways. And anyway, it's far more fun to see what Tina Fey or Julia Louise-Dreyfus is wearing -- and for most of us, how well they are aging -- than what some anonymous androgynous model sports in a country, at an age, and at a price that is far, far away.

I've loved watching award shows as long as I can remember. My mom was always a huge fan, and when she passed away years ago, we found boxes of VHS tapes from pretty much every Oscar that happened during this old-school recording period. She loved television and although didn't see too many movies at the theater, loved them on TV and all of the glamour they represented. For someone who lived in Levi's, Birkenstocks and clay-covered sweatshirts (she did Ceramics), I suppose they provided a glimpse into another world, which really is the allure for all of us.

So I flipped on E! to watch Giuliana and Ross and Kelly breathlessly gush about everyone and every gown before turning to CBS for the real show. This being, to me and many, the new "golden age of TV" in quality and creativity, the surplus of serious actors means less sartorial shenanigans.

Which sucks! At least when you want to be entertained by errant outfits. I was bored stiff.

Yes, the "older" ladies -- over 40, which pretty much represented almost every woman who presented or won, all looked fantastic. Hair, skin, figures -- all shiny and tight. I'm particular taken by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who to me get's better with age. She's fifty-fucking-two and just, well, wow. Stay tuned here for more on her later this week.

In the meantime, here is a gallery of my quick live sketches. Like the gowns, some are better than others. Who did you like? What were your favorites? Did you like the show?

'Lucky 7' Premiere: Winning The Lottery Could Be The Worst Thing That's Happened To Them (VIDEO)

Mo' money, mo' problems. But for the cast of "Lucky 7," many of those problems existed before these gas station employees hit it big by winning a $145 million lottery jackpot. Now, they're in the public eye, and that's exactly where several of them don't want to be. Specifically, brothers Matt and Nicky.

While everyone in the cast was strapped for cash, these two decided to risk everything by robbing the gas station they worked at the night of the big lottery drawing. Their boss, Bob, took a blow to the head in the robbery, and now the cops are looking at the brothers with suspicion while the world is looking at them as new millionaires. What a difference a day makes.

There are surely more secrets to come to light with this group of coworkers -- and the one poor guy who'd opted out of "wasting" his money on the weekly lottery pool, thus missing out on the winnings. Also missing is any depth to most of these characters, and thus a compelling reason to root for them. After an hour, it's a shame that most of them are still virtual blank slates.

IGN's Matt Fowler wasn't impressed at all with the premiere. "Welcome to ABC's new lotto-tastic dramedy, ‘Lucky 7’ -- an ensemble series so riddled with cringe-worthy cliches that it would never stand a chance of surviving on its own if it weren't debuting on the same night and network as 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,'" he wrote.

Over at Buddy TV, Morgan Glennon seemed to agree, saying that "you're only lucky if you skip this new drama.” She went on to explain that "the problem with ‘Lucky 7’ isn't with the unoriginal premise, but with the characters who populate the show. As the pilot comes to a close, most of the characters remain one-dimensional stereotypes … With seven characters to establish in just the first hour, there's barely enough time to make each character memorable.”

Will you take a chance on "Lucky 7"? Come back for more drama and tension every Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

'The Voice': E.G. Daily's Voice Impresses, As Does Her Other Career As A Voice Actor (VIDEO)

On "The Voice," 51-year-old E.G. Daily wanted to be recognized for her own voice. Since the 1980s, she's made quite a name for herself in the world of voice acting, breathing life into such notable characters as Tommy Pickles from "Rugrats" and Buttercup in "The Powerpuff Girls." She also gained some notoriety as Dottie in "Pee-wee's Big Adventure." But it was her singing voice that commanded the attention of Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green.

E.G. brought a beautiful rasp and range to Faith Hill's "Breathe." When Christina Aguilera thought she recognized her, E.G. admitted to being Dottie, and then said Tommy's catchphrase:"A baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do.”

After raising her children, E.G. said that she felt like this might be her last chance to pursue her true passion, and she was excited to see if she could make it using her own voice. In the end, it seemed that Cee Lo's familiarity with her voice work played against him. She chose Blake because she felt that he heard her true voice.

Entertainment Weekly's Annie Barrett pointed out that this isn't E.G.'s first stab at a singing career, and in fact she's had some success already. "Daily never broke out as a solo artist (she signed with A&M Records in ’85), but she’s had a ton of songs in movies like 'Scarface,' 'The Breakfast Club,' and 'Better Off Dead,'" Barrett wrote.

Over at Buddy TV, though, Esther Gim was impressed. She also had an unlikely fantasy for E.G. in the future. "I'm hoping she sings a song in the voice of one of her characters, but I know that's not likely," wrote Gim. "She's very raspy. Almost too raspy. But she definitely has range."

The blind auditions on "The Voice" continue every Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

'NCIS' Premiere: The Search For Ziva Begins As She Prepares To Leave The Show (VIDEO)

"NCIS" kicked off Season 11 with the first of a two-part farewell for Ziva. Only, she didn't appear in this episode. We found out that a terror kingpin was going after Gibbs' team, and his next target was Ziva, who was in Israel.

Tony enlisted Ziva's friend in Israel to track her down at her father's secret cabin, and they found the cabin. By the time they got there, though, they did not find Ziva. Instead, there were signs of a struggle, and three dead bodies.

“Ziva was here, but she’s gone," Adam told Tony. "As you can see, clearly there was a struggle. Three men are dead. We’ll get them identified."

Tony wanted to know how Adam could be so sure that Ziva was there. "Because she told us," Adam said pointing to Ziva's Star of David necklace. She'd left it hanging from a picture frame on the mantle. The investigation continues next week, but will Ziva die in her final episode?

CarterMatt noted that at least we know Ziva's alive ... for now. Over at Entertainment Weekly, Sandra Gonzalez said that the premiere "laid the groundwork for the much touted Farewell to Ziva, and while the necessary story set-up resulted in less in-person appearances from Ziva (none, to be exact), it’s easy to see why it needed to be done.”

Say goodbye to Ziva next week on "NCIS," Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

'NCIS: Los Angeles' Premiere: Team Takes Down Major Villain, But He Promises The Game Is Not Over (VIDEO)

While things may have looked bleak at the close of Season 4, "NCIS: Los Angeles" debuted its fifth season with the team earning triumph over Sidorov's torture. In fact, they even managed to take him down. Then, after a four-month time jump, the episode ended with another villain being put behind bars.

Callen apparently hopped a plane for the occasion of seeing Janvier put behind bars. "I just had to see this with my own eyes.”

But Janvier wasn't rattled. In fact, he seemed strangely confident. "Did you ever read ‘The Count of Monte Cristo?’” he asked Callen. "It’s the story of a man who spent 21 years in prison only to escape and exact his revenge ... The game is not over."

Writing for Examiner, Meredith Jacobs agreed with Javier. As long as he's alive, she noted, the game will not be over. TV Fanatic's Carla Day was left wondering if this means he's going to break out of prison -- if anyone can, Marcel Janvier can. Or will the game continue with Janvier as the mastermind behind bars?

Season 5 of "NCIS: Los Angeles" continues every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.

'Chicago Fire' Premiere: Shay Isn't Sure Severide Is The Father Of Renee's Baby (VIDEO)

On the season premiere of "Chicago Fire," Severide was moving in with Renee. This came after she dropped the pregnant bombshell during last season's finale. But Shay was suspicious of the math, and so she confronted Severide about it.

“You said the baby’s coming on Thanksgiving, yeah?” she asked. "Well, it’s just that Renee left February 9th ... The due date should be the first week of November at the latest.”

Severide was immediately infuriated at Shay suggesting that the baby might not be his. He wouldn't even entertain the notion. TV Fanatic's Nick McHatton didn't like seeing Shay turned into the "bad guy," forced to deliver the not-so great news about the baby.

But TVLine's Vlada Gelman pointed out that this could be how they're planning to write Renee out of the show. She was noticeably absent from there premiere, and Sarah Shahi, who portrays Renee, was upped to a series regular on CBS's "Person of Interest" this season. If her baby isn't Severide's baby, that makes for a much cleaner departure.

Baby drama isn't the biggest problem looming for the firehouse, either. With budget problems, the house itself is on a short list of firehouses that could be shut down, though that isn't known beyond Chief Boden just yet.

"Chicago Fire" continues every Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.

Taran Killam Tells Us About The New 'SNL' Season: 'It's Such A Positive Energy'

$

As it enters its 39th season, "Saturday Night Live" has likely encountered more peaks and valleys than any other entertainment property, period. So it makes sense that the announcement that "SNL" will be adding six -- count 'em, six -- new cast members would be met with widespread curiosity: Will the show survive such drastic upheaval?

Of course it will, according to "SNL" player Taran Killam. With three seasons under his belt, Killam is now one of the more senior cast members on the show, and his impressions (his Brad Pitt and Piers Morgan earned high praise) and original characters (Mokiki, anyone?) have led some to name him one of the most promising young comedians of his class.

But his credentials extend beyond "SNL": This summer alone, he appeared in the action/comedy blockbuster "The Heat" as a (spoiler) fresh-faced villain, announced that he will write a comic book, and voiced a character in "The Awesomes," an animated Hulu show created by his soon-to-be-departing "SNL" co-star Seth Meyers.

We chatted with Killam the Tuesday before the "SNL" Season 39 premiere about the new season, his favorite former cast members and why "SNL" has such staying power.

HuffPost Comedy: Thanks for talking to me. I know that you guys are very busy.
Taran Killam: We're stretching right now, before the starting gun is fired.

HPC: When does the starting gun get fired?
TK: For me, it'll probably be around 3:00. The gun fires, then you stand in place and panic for about eight hours, then you wait for the sun to set and for the fourth coffee to kick in. Then, you just write in a fury of panic.

HPC: You've had a big summer, between "The Heat," your new comic book and "The Awesomes." How does it feel to be back after all that?
TK: It's a crazy exciting time. It's such a positive energy at the show right now. We have six new cast members, and around four new writers, however you want to dice it. We have almost a dozen new people, which is almost half the cast and writing staff. And the people who are returning are still relatively new. I mean, I'm only three seasons in. It feels like there's a real opportunity to claim ownership of the tone of the show, which is very exciting.

taran killam

HPC: I know you haven't started working with the new cast members yet, but what do you think audiences can expect this season?
TK: The first table reading is going to be very awesome, and ultimately interesting, because you have at least 10 new comedic voices who you've never heard before, who have never written anything specifically for the show. It's going to be a chaotic cacophony of comedy, and it's going to be interesting to see what lands on Saturday for the first show. It always takes the first four to five episodes before the show takes on this subconscious agreement in terms of what direction the show's going. It's weird -- there's this unspoken thing where you'll be at a table read, and there will be, like, four references to, say, a raccoon's nest. And you're like, "Did someone just say ‘raccoon's nest' again?! Nobody said anything about a raccoon's nest, and it's not a topical thing. Well, I guess we just have a bunch of raccoon's nest sketches." It's an evolving process. It's like the first day of school. The person you sit next to in homeroom may not be your best friend by the end of the school year, but there's no way to know without taking classes with everybody. It's very, very exciting, and people are so happy to be here, and are hanging out almost every night of the week. It's a very positive time to be on the show.

HPC: I imagine that some part of the change is that Seth Meyers has stepped down from his head writer role as he transitions to "Late Night." What's his role been like so far?
TK: That loss hasn't been felt yet. Seth is still here. Maybe he doesn't have the title of head writer anymore, but he's very much staying on as a mentor, and he's very involved. He's doing the job without the title on his door, basically. Whenever he decides to shift his full focus over to his show, that will be a huge loss. I think that Seth is so funny, so smart, and also very approachable, which isn't always the case for people in positions of authority. I'm glad he's still here. It doesn't feel like he's gone yet. Colin [Jost] was helping him out last year as co-head writer, and Rob Klein, who was a writer I worked pretty closely with, is sharing the responsibility of head writer with Colin. The show is already in good hands, and hands that know and care for the show. So I don't think that will be the shake-up. The shake-up is that when people turn on their TV on Saturday they're going to see six new faces they've never seen before, and three or four they care deeply about.

HPC: One thing I'm excited about with those new faces is that many of them became popular on the Internet. I'm curious to see how their sensibilities mesh with more senior cast members and writers.
TK: Me too, because I think peoples' instinct in a new situation is to cling to what you know. As a senior cast member, it's going to be my responsibility to shake things up and work with those guys. A lot of them know other people and will probably write amongst themselves, but some of the best stuff in the show comes from people saying, "Hey, do you want to try to do something?" and then two voices colliding to make something brand new.

taran killam

HPC: You've said you think it'd be amazing if Eddie Murphy came back to host the show. Was he one of your favorite cast members growing up?
TK: Oh, yeah. Eddie Murphy was my guy for a long time. My first exposure to "SNL" was his "Best Of" VHS, and I would watch it over and over again. He was one of the few people on the show to play with the live elements, and engage with the audience. "Little Richard Simmons" is a pun in terms of the premise of the sketch, it's not a strong pitch, but he just commands the entire audience in it. It's one of the few times you see someone go out in the audience and engage them in that way. That's what's special about the show. What you see is happening in that moment. There is no room for corrections. He was always my favorite for that. Also, in a sketch he did, I think "A Moment in Black History," he flubs the line, and people laugh. He just says, "Yeah, I messed up. So what! Shut up!" [laughs]

HPC: Who were your other favorite cast members?
TK: I had older sisters, so I would definitely watch the Lovitz/Hartman/Carvey/Myers era. And Jack Handey -- for whatever reason, I was very aware of Jack Handey more than even some cast members, although he happened to do a lot of his stuff with Phil Hartman. But Jack Handey was one of my heroes. When I started watching regularly, it was with Ferrell, and Kattan, and that era. Then I went away to college and stopped watching, because other priorities came up. The first show I ever went to -- before I got the job, just as a fan -- was Andy [Samberg] and Bill [Hader]'s first episode. It was crazy. That was the episode that Bill did his Al Pacino. It was apparent to me from that very first episode that this guy was one of the biggest talents that has ever been on the show. So getting to work with him was great. And then after being on the show, I had the pleasure of sitting across from Fred Armisen, who is a certifiable genius. Some of my favorite creative moments at the show were just sketches that he would read at the table that never got picked, but were some of the funniest things I've ever heard. And obviously, Kristen [Wiig]. My buddy Mikey Day and Kristen were in a class together at The Groundlings, and that was the first time I ever saw her. It was just apparent that this girl was at another level. The fact that her Suze Orman and Björk impressions are her third tier material is incredible. Oh, and Will Forte. As I come to define my comedic sensibilities and tastes, my favorite sketches that have ever been on the show are Will Forte's.

HPC: My favorite is his spelling bee sketch, where the whole sketch is just him saying letters and numbers.
TK: I recorded that! I watched it back and counted how many Qs he did in a row. It was 14. When I finally got to meet him, I said, "I know you did that at The Groundlings, and you did 14 Qs!" And he said [does Will Forte impression] "Oh, honey, when I did that at The Groundlings, I did twice as many!"

HPC: As someone on the inside, why do you think "SNL" has remained such a strong cultural force for so many years?
TK: Lorne always says that it's the closest thing in television to sports, in that people claim ownership of the show. New players are drafted, you pick your favorite, and you claim ownership of it. If I laugh at that person's thing, then when that person does well, it's a victory for me. And it's always topical, so it's contemporary in that it's what's happening in the moment. As for the stat sheet business reasons behind its success, if you look at the talent that it's groomed, the biggest names in comedy that exist have come from the show. I think it was [former "SNL" cast member] Gilbert Gottfried who said, "It doesn't matter if the show's funny anymore. It's a restaurant in a great location."

Miley Cyrus hit 14 million Twitter followers this week, and she celebrated the milestone by releasing the director's cut of her latest music video, "Wrecking Ball." Directed by boundary-pushing fashion photographer Terry Richardson, the original visuals to Cyrus' latest single alternated between tight shots of her face as she cried and footage of her riding a wrecking ball naked and licking a sledgehammer. Richardson's cut of the music video focuses solely on Cyrus' face, giving the video a more emotional feel. Cyrus recently defended the original video, telling Z100, "I think the video is much more, if people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me. You can tell that I actually look more broken than even the song sounds."

Hollywood legend Mitzi Gaynor is reportedly selling her Beverly Hills, California home.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Gaynor has listed the 4,100-square-foot abode for $5,495,000, and we think it's well worth the price. Stars like Gene Kelly, Betty Grable and Richard Burton have all been guests.

The listing by Sotheby's Reality says the Spanish-styled villa has five bedrooms and six baths. Gaynor supposedly bought the home in 1960 with her husband, talent agent Jack Bean. Since his death in 2006 however, the "South Pacific" star says the house is too big for her. "There are so many blessed memories here, but there comes a time when you have to move on," she told the Wall Street Journal.

Scroll through the photos below to see the property, and head over to Sotheby's Realty and the Wall Street Journal for more information.
