Steve McQueen's "12 Years A Slave" won the prestigious audience award at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, cementing its already cemented status as one of the year's premier Oscar contenders.

Films that have won the festival's People's Choice honor over the last 15 years include Best Picture winners "American Beauty" (1999), "Slumdog Millionaire" (2008) and "The King's Speech" (2011), and Best Picture nominees "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000), "Precious" (2009) and last year's "Silver Linings Playbook."

Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong'o, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Alfre Woodard, Sarah Paulson and Brad Pitt, "12 Years A Slave" tells the true story of Solomon Northup (Ejiofor), a free man who gets kidnapped and sold into slavery. In addition to presumed Best Picture and Best Director consideration, actors Ejiofor, Fassbender and Nyong'o are expected to compete for Oscar glory in their respective categories.

"Philomena" and "Prisoners" were named runners-up to "12 Years A Slave" for the audience award; last year, eventual Best Picture winner "Argo" was selected as runner-up to "Silver Linings Playbook." In fact, the last six Best Picture winners screened during the Toronto International Film Festival, giving hope to films like "Gravity" and "August: Osage County," neither of which factored into Sunday's awards announcements.

David Beckham is proud that his children, despite being amongst the most famous and privileged youngsters on the planet, all have good manners, even little Harper.

He tells HuffPostUK: "Even my two-year-old daughter says 'please and thankyou'. From living in America, she says 'You're welcome.'"

Becks was speaking at the launch of the London flagship store of biking wear Belstaff, for which the retired footballer has just been named the face of their global advertising campaign.

David and his wife Victoria may have a reported £125million fortune between them, but the now retired footballer is clear on the clearest thing he wants to pass on to their four children.

"We try to lead by example, by showing them it's important to work hard. That's one of the key things me and my wife have always done, (both) before we had children, and now we have four children.

Insane Clown Posse Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Filed By Former Publicist Andrea Pellegrini

A former publicist and attorney for the Insane Clown Posse has filed a lawsuit against the rap duo and its hardcore rap company, alleging that her employers regularly sexually harassed her and encouraged to lie to federal authorities.

In her complaint filed Monday, Andrea Pellegrini alleges "constant and pervasive harassment" while she worked at Psychopathic Records. Included in the complaint are employee Dan "Dirty Dan" Diamond and ICP members Joseph "Shaggy 2 Dope" Utsler and Joseph "Violent J" Bruce. The lawsuit, which can be viewed online here, includes 86 counts of alleged wrongdoing by the rap group and label.

Pellegrini claims "Dirty Dan" sexually assaulted her, propositioned her and gave her a dildo at work as a gift. The former ICP publicist says she was one of three female employees who were also presented with "vagina tighteners" by management, while also detailing alleged examples of being belittled, sexually threatened and even encouraged to procure illegal "automatic tommy guns" for a photo shoot.

Pellegrini alleges was terminated after reporting the harassment to her superiors, according to the suit.

The Insane Clown Posse is infamous for their "hardcore" lyrics and imagery, along with their subculture of fans known as "Juggalos." Psychopathic Records, partially owned by the rap duo, is located in Oakland County, north of Detroit.

Pellegrini also said she was emotionally abused and demeaned by members of the record label, who she says regularly referred to her as "bitch" and refused to let her use business cards or tell people she worked for Psychopathic Records.

She also alleged that Psychopathic Records lied to federal investigators with the U.S. Department of Labor, calling her "In-House Counsel" so she would be exempt from payment of accrued overtime hours. In reality, Pellegrini, who wanted to learn about entertainment law, said she was routinely bullied and asked to do illegal and unethical acts with her law license.

She's now suing for wrongful termination and wants damages for the emotional distress she says she suffered, including conduct that was "extreme and outrageous and exceeds the bounds of human decency."

Psychopathic Records didn't comment on the allegations to the Detroit News. But some supposed fans didn't seem that surprised by Pellegrini's complaint, as evidenced by several reactions on Twitter. Juggalos are no stranger to allegations -- the ICP fan base was formerly classified as a gang by the FBI.

Despite recent controversy, or maybe because of it, ICP, which has been around for two decades, has been receiving more attention of late. The two host new show "Insane Clown Posse Theater" on Fuse Network, where they riff on pop culture and music.

"ICP is the only group in the position in the history of rock 'n' roll that ever sold as many millions of records as we had and had as much success as we've had and it's still considered a joke. It's still considered the most hated band in the world," Bruce told the Associated Press in an interview about the show. "We love to be hated."

The following is an excerpt from Daniel Cronin's introduction to his photography book, The Gathering of the Juggalos. The book examines band Insane Clown Posse's fan base, also known as "Juggalos." Every year, Juggalos meet up at an event called "The Gathering." Cronin's photos are from this event.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus In 'Enough Said': TV Vet Makes Transition To The Big Screen

$

0
TORONTO -- At the suggestion that she's the finest comedic actress of her generation, Julia Louis-Dreyfus sighs an expletive.

The grandness of the statement may make Louis-Dreyfus squirm, but it's worth considering. Think about her, as Elaine Benes on "Seinfeld," swooning over John F. Kennedy Jr. Think about her, as Vice President Selina Meyer on "Veep," strategically finishing a 10k race behind a disabled veteran but before a costumed contestant ("I'm not going to get beaten by a banana!"). Few comediennes have both her gift for physical comedy (furiously tearing away George Costanza's toupee) and vocal precision ("He took it out"). In boy worlds as varied as the dating banter of "Seinfeld" and the Beltway politics of "Veep," she's suffered countless indignities, yet always remained feistily combative.

"It's a very joyful way to make a living," Louis-Dreyfus remarked in a recent interview at the Toronto International Film Festival. "I kind of crave it, in a way. But it's fun to make them cry, too."

And with that, she lets out a full-throated laugh – a brilliant, bright cackle that's ruined dozens of otherwise good takes. (If you haven't seen it, look up the outtakes from her police station confrontation with Jerry Stiller's Frank Costanza on "Seinfeld.")

In "Enough Said," which Fox Searchlight will release Wednesday, Louis-Dreyfus, transfers her comedic gifts to the big screen and, finally, gets to exercise her tear-inducing chops.

"Enough Said," she joked after the Toronto premiere of the film, her first dramatic work since doing "The Cherry Orchard" in high school. (She fell into sketch comedy as a college student at Northwestern in Chicago, after which she joined "Saturday Night Live." It's also, somewhat staggeringly, the first lead role in a feature film for the 52-year-old actress.

"I've spent the bulk of my career doing television and raising two children, who I'm still raising. So the idea of working eight, nine months on a series and then on my break going off to do another project is something I just couldn't work into my life," says Louis-Dreyfus. "So I didn't, much to my agent's chagrin."

In "Enough Said," which was written and directed by Nicole Holofcener ("Please Give," "Lovely and Amazing"), Louis-Dreyfus plays a divorced Los Angeles masseuse and mother who begins dating the ex-husband (James Gandolfini) of a new friend (Catherine Keener). It's a tender, un-formulaic romantic comedy about the distrustful stage of middle age when romantic opportunities seem like inevitable disappointment and children leave for college.

"There was plenty to draw on," says Louis-Dreyfus who, despite a career playing interminably single or divorced women, has been happily married for 25 years to "SNL" alum Brad Hall, with whom she has two sons. "I brought all of it."

"I could see how emotional she was," says Holofcener. "She showed me pictures of (her sons), she started crying and I thought, `Oh, OK. This is a no brainer. Obviously she can relate to this part, and obviously her emotions are very accessible and close to the surface.'"

After casting Gandolfini, Holofcener realized she had played matchmaker of two TV icons: "It's like Tony Soprano dating Elaine Benes."

The release of the film has been bittersweet for all of those involved, coming just three months after the death of Gandolfini. Louis-Dreyfus was a big admirer of the actor before working with him: "I thought he was sort of dreamy," she says.

"James was very much like the character, Albert, that he plays in this movie: very dear, thoughtful, self-effacing kind of guy," she says, choking up. "It's lovely for his legacy and even for his family to have this performance documented because it shows him as this loving, dear man, which he was."

Like Gandolfini, Louis-Dreyfus could easily have been pigeonholed for her famous TV role.

"The test is always time," says Jerry Seinfeld. "When your talent is thin, you get cycled through the machine fast. When your talent is deep, like hers is, you get a much longer ride – which is very obvious to everyone at this point."

It would be hard to overstate the importance of Louis-Dreyfus to "Seinfeld." Nearing casting her, Seinfeld declared to co-creator Larry David: "If this deal works out and we get her, we're going to be very wealthy."

Elaine was added after the pilot, but she quickly asserted herself as one of the boys. In the tradition of Lucille Ball, Louis-Dreyfus never shied away from looking foolish for comedic effect, even sinking to that lowest of lows: flirting with Newman."

Armando Iannucci's Washington D.C. satire "Veep" has proved to be the great, foul-mouthed bookend for Louis-Dreyfus' sitcom life. She's currently nominated for an Emmy for her performance, having won it last year. Her Selina is perpetually, desperately a step behind the D.C. gossip mill.

"She's vain, she's frustrated, she's ambitious, she's self-centered, ego-maniacal, fundamentally very lonely and behaves desperately as the result of all of the above," says Louis-Dreyfus.

But "Veep," currently shooting its third season, only runs in 10-episode bunches, allowing Louis-Dreyfus more time for film work. "Enough Said" may be just a beginning.

"It's not like they're easily plucked from trees, these kinds of really interesting, distinct films with roles for people my age," says Louis-Dreyfus. "But I have a feeling I'll do a few more films, to tell you the truth."

Sam Rockwell Confirms 'Poltergeist' Remake Talks

NEW YORK -- In the crime drama thriller "A Single Shot," Sam Rockwell stars as John Moon, a man who gets caught up in a tense cat-and-mouse struggle with a pack of hardened criminals after mistakenly shooting a woman and then discovering a box of cash by her body. Rockwell describes Moon as a "down-on-his-luck" anti-hero who is really trying to "get reunited with his family."

Moon is a character familiar to Rockwell, who is known for taking on dark, off-kilter characters such as the crazed prisoner "Wild Bill" Wharton in "The Green Mile" or the unemployed actor and dognapper Billy Bickle in "Seven Psychopaths." While he takes on other kinds of roles, like the affable water park manager Owen in "The Way Way Back" or a serious journalist in "Frost/Nixon," Rockwell acknowledges that he's attracted to "dark stuff."

"I love to go back to this kind of stuff and shake it up a little bit," he said in a recent interview to promote "A Single Shot," which opens in theaters Friday. He said some of his offbeat characters seem to be "a kind of cousin" and that he returns to these roles the way some actors revisit "Hamlet" or Stanley Kowalski in an effort "to perfect an archetype."

Rockwell, meanwhile, confirmed he's in talks to appear opposite Rosemarie DeWitt in a remake of "Poltergeist," saying he and the filmmakers are "just addressing some script stuff but I think it may be happening."

He said 1982's "Poltergeist" was a "big deal" for him. "I was blown away by that film." He also said the new movie won't reprise the characters played by JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson. "It's a very different story," Rockwell said. "They're a little more working class."

The 44-year-old actor said he's heard there has been some chatter about a possible Oscar nomination for his role in "The Way Way Back," but he doesn't take it seriously.

"Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz," he said. "It is what it is. That's why they call it buzz."

Ben Affleck Says Justin Timberlake Makes Him Feel Insecure

Ben Affleck seems to have everything: an adorable family, a thriving career, good looks ... but apparently Justin Timberlake makes him feel insecure.

On "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," Affleck admitted that JT gave him a dose of low self-esteem while working together on "Runner, Runner," out Oct. 4.

“He dances like Michael Jackson, sings, writes music ... There’s 400 million boy bands; he’s the one guy that became a gigantic star,” Affleck said.

Affleck said he spotted JT making half-court shots on the basketball court in suits and that he was invited to go golfing with the singer, but he politely declined because he didn't want to take the risk of embarrassing himself.

The "Take Back the Night" singer clearly got into the Academy Award winner's head, especially after Affleck started subconsciously singing JT's songs.

Jimmy Kimmel may be worth a cool $35 million, but that doesn't mean he's too good for Costco.

On Monday, the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" host told guest Andy Samberg that he purchased his wedding band -- which he has since lost -- from Costco.com.

When asked what his wife, writer Molly McNearney, thought about his choice, Kimmel replied, "She was like, 'Really? I'll buy you a nice ring.' And I was like, 'Look at this ring, it's nice, it's fine, it's a ring -- what do I care?' Good thing because I lost it."

And clearly, the funnyman is a big fan of Costco. "I would have gotten married at Costco if that was an option," he added.

The talk show host tied the knot with McNearney in Ojai, Calif. in July. Samberg popped the question to his girlfriend, singer/songwriter Joanna Newsom, in February 2013.

Watch the video above for more of Kimmel and Samberg's hilarious banter. Then, click through the slideshow below for more celebrities who got hitched this year.

"NCIS" has cast Emily Wickersham in the role of Bishop, Ziva's (Cote de Pablo) potential successor on the team, according to TV Line.

Wickersham will appear for a three episode arc that has a series regular option attached if the character proves successful, and will reportedly make her debut during November sweeps, according to E! Online.

Bishop is described as "bright, educated, athletic, attractive, fresh-faced, focused and somewhat socially awkward. She has a mysterious mixture of analytic brilliance, fierce determination and idealism. She’s traveled extensively, but only feels comfortable at home.”

Perhaps best known for her role as Rhiannon, A.J.’s girlfriend in the final season of "The Sopranos," Wickersham is currently recurring on FX's "The Bridge."

While fans are still getting to grips with Ziva's "NCIS" exit, co-star Michael Weatherly assures viewers that de Pablo's final two episodes will be "immensely satisfying," admitting that Tony's storyline following Ziva's departure is “the most exciting thing I’ve heard in a long time."

Season 11 of "NCIS" premieres on Tues., Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Did you watch the premiere of Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine"? Well you should've -- we told you to enough times! (Here, here and here, in case you missed them all.)

But in order to keep some element of surprise for viewers, there's one part of the show that we didn't discuss before it aired: The unexpected twist that Andre Braugher's police captain character is gay.

Watch the video interview with Braugher, above, to hear his thoughts on the character, how he'll be playing it and why it's important to him that they get it right.

"I think it's wonderful that it's part of a complex person, as opposed to the defining characteristic, because when it is the defining characteristic it's always gonna bump up, inevitably, against good taste and wind up creating an offensive stereotype," Braugher said.

"I will have a husband like everyone else has a husband or a wife, but it's going to be entirely appropriate, and that's of overwhelming importance to me."

Any casting picks for who he'd like to play his TV husband? "I have no idea who my husband will be -- it's very much like 'The Bachelor,' only reversed," Braugher said with a laugh.

Watch the interview with Braugher, above, and tell us: Were you surprised by the twist? Are you happy to see a new anti-stereotypical gay character like this on TV?

This could be a horror fan's dream come true -- Deadline reports that Jamie Lee Curtis is attached to star in "The Final Girls," a potential series for ABC Family, to be directed and executive produced by her "Halloween H20" director Steve Miner if the pilot is greenlit.

"The Final Girls" revolves around "a group of girls who have, in essence, survived their own personal horror stories, and are brought together by a mysterious older woman (Curtis) to channel the stress and scars of their experience for some greater good."

ABC Family has reportedly closed a deal to acquire the high-profile horror spec script from Jeff Dixon, and although the pilot has yet to be ordered, Deadline reports that the project is on the fast track. Curtis' involvement would certainly be an attractive prospect for any network, especially in the genre that made her famous.

In addition to Curtis' "Halloween H20," Miner also helmed "Friday the 13th Part 2" and "Friday the 13th Part III," and has worked with ABC Family in recent years on episodes of "Make It or Break It" and "Switched at Birth."
