The Future Of 'The Newsroom'

HBO is known for often renewing its successful shows the day after their season premieres, and "The Newsroom" is now through seven episodes of its nine-episode season. So where’s that renewal? Is it possible that Sorkin himself doesn’t want to do the show anymore?

A representative from HBO said, “We are actively involved in conversations with Aaron about a Season 3.” (His publicist would not comment.)

Kurt Russell Grabs Role 'Fast 7' Initially Pegged For Denzel Washington

The "Fast and Furious" franchise might have gotten a little more Stuntman Mike. According to Variety, Kurt Russell is negotiating with Universal to star in "Fast Seven," where he would play an undisclosed role that the studio initially pegged for Denzel Washington. (As Deadline.com reported on Aug. 1, Washington had turned down the role.)

Little else is known about Russell's involvement, but it's expected that the part would carry over to the eighth film in the series -- something that would mimic what Universal did with Jason Statham's "Fast and Furious Six" cameo. (Statham is set up as the villain in "Fast Seven.")

Russell is an action veteran, having starred in "Escape From New York," "Big Trouble in Little China," "Tango and Cash," "Tombstone" and "Executive Decision," among other films. He also played the aforementioned Stuntman Mike in Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof," a section of the Tarantino-Robert Rodriguez "Grindhouse" experiment in 2007. "Death Proof" focused on a stunt man who used his indestructible car to murder innocent women.

More on Russell's "Fast and Furious 7" negotiations can be found at Variety. James Wan will direct the film, which is set for release next summer.

On September 3, Matt LeBlanc will be Skyping with Lisa Kudrow for an unofficial "Friends" reunion on Showtime's "Web Therapy."

LeBlanc will appear on two episodes of the Showtime comedy as “Nick Jericho,” described as a "compulsive online gambler" who turns to Fiona (Kudrow) for advice on how to get his addiction under control before his wife steps in.

But in typical Fiona fashion, she decides that he doesn't have a problem at all ... and that he's quite handsome.

This isn't the first time a "Friends" cast member has turned to Fiona for advice. David Schwimmer (Ross) made an appearance as a creepy guy obsessed with anal sex in July, and Courteney Cox sought Fiona's opinion in Season 1.

Catch LeBlanc on "Web Therapy" on Tues., September 3 at 11 p.m. ET on Showtime.

Fiona Apple Storms Off The Stage: 'Predictable Fashion, What The F--k?!'

Dave Chappelle wasn't the only one who lost a battle with unruly crowds on Thursday: Fiona Apple, who's as famous for boldly speaking her mind as producing well-received music, was performing at a Louis Vuitton event when things started going south.

According to Women's Wear Daily, Apple wasn't pleased that attendees seemed to busy being seen than appreciating her performance. She tried to quiet down the Tokyo crowd by calling them "rude" and implore they "shut the f--k up," and even climbed her piano at one point, to no avail.

She continued to play, however, until she eventually lost it. In a flurry of fantastic Fiona-ness, the singer apparently yelled “Predictable! Predictable fashion, what the f--k?” and stormed off the stage.

The singer recently released the video for "Hot Knife," directed by her very own ex-boyfriend, Paul Thomas Anderson. She's currently prepping an October tour of the United States.

Do You Love Alicia's New 'Do?

Another day, another celebrity haircut. This time around Alicia Keys is debuting a new 'do...

The "Girl On Fire" singer shocked fans when she hit the "Good Morning America" Concert Series stage Friday morning, sporting a super short pixie cut. But we can't be too surprised, she told us back in December that she planned to cut it shorter.

The 32-year-old star also tweeted a picture of the edgy, slicked down style -- which is a bit more extreme than Beyoncé's short-lived pixie and reminds us of Vidal Sassoon's iconic five-point cut.

While Ms. Keys clearly loves her new look, some folks on Twitter have been having a field day poking fun at the bowl shaped cut -- comparing the Grammy Award-winner to Mr. Spock from "Star Trek" and Mo from "The Three Stooges." (see slideshow below)

After an onslaught of memes, Alicia tweeted another photo showing her hair styled differently and praising its "versatility." She also added "love and light to u!" -- which we're totally taking as jab at the haters.

What do you think of Alicia's new 'do? Take a closer look and check out some of those silly memes in the slideshow below.

She's recently divorced, but "Glee" star Jane Lynch is keeping a cool head about it. In an interview with Billy Bush for PopCrush, the 53-year-old actress said that she wasn't ready to dive back into the dating pool but that single life was just "fine."

Lynch filed for divorce from wife-of-three-years Dr. Lara Embry, a psychologist, in July. Earlier this month, People magazine reported that Embry requested that Lynch pay her attorney's fees and spousal support.

Now Lynch tells Bush that she expects to give a pay-out to her estranged spouse from some of her "highest earning years." "[California] is a half and half state, as well as it should be, so that's fine … It's just money."

She added: "I should be dating. I should … and I don't want to do any of those things."

Lynch and Embry announced the news of their split to People magazine in July, saying in a statement: "Lara and I have decided to end our marriage. This has been a difficult decision for us as we care very deeply about one another. We ask for privacy as we deal with this family matter."

Another "Real Housewife" marriage is officially over.

On Thursday, Adrienne Maloof and Paul Nassif released a joint statement proclaiming that their long and messy divorce is finally behind them, according to People magazine.

"We recently reached an agreement on all outstanding issues related to our divorce settlement and all pending litigation," the statement read.

The former couple went on to iterate that the wellbeing of their three children is of the utmost importance, and that they are committed to raising them together.

"[We are] happy to be moving forward with our lives in a positive way, not only individually, but as co-parents. This is a new beginning for each of us. Our first priority is our children's well-being and happiness," they added. "As their parents and advocates that is our goal. Our children are our most important treasures and need to be treated with the respect and privacy they deserve ... We appreciate the good wishes we continue to receive from our supporters around the world."

Maloof and Nassif filed for divorce in August 2012 after announcing their separation one month earlier. They reached an initial settlement in November 2012.

This is far from the first "Real Housewives" couple to end their marriage. Click through the slideshow to see what other "Housewives" have divorced their husbands.

A fundraiser planned to help raise money toward Teresa and Joe Giudice's legal fees caused a stir this week and forced the "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star to clarify some things.

RadarOnline.com reported Thursday that Teresa "resorted to begging her fans to help pay her legal bills" with an event at Maliblue Oyster Bar in Lido Beach, N.Y. The event, which went down on the evening of Aug. 29, was apparently slated as a fundraiser organized by employees of the Long Island venue.

"A group of bartenders and staff from a legendary Long Island beach resort and catering facility are collecting donations to support the legal defense of ... Teresa Giudice," a press release for the event read. "They strongly believe Teresa will be vindicated soon and will be collecting funds to aid her defense. They are seeking donations from compassionate fans of the reality TV star, who has four young children."

The statement went on to add, "The group is dedicated to helping Teresa stay out of prison and also help pay any fines or other restitution that Teresa and Joe are ordered to pay."

InTouch and Reality Tea both posted about Thursday's event, and the reality star eventually took to Twitter to claim she had no idea about what was happening.

Dover Caterers, the catering company hosting the occasion, later apologized to Giudice for the media and press, RumorFix noted. Promoter Johnny Donovan also quashed the gossip, tweeting, “@Teresa_Giudice will be appearing tnite as a meet and greet to kick off Labor Day weekend press has false information on any other matter [all sic]."

InTouch later reported that fundraising efforts had been cancelled by the restaurant and those behind the event.

Teresa and Joe Giudice were indicted on 39 counts of bank and bankruptcy fraud back in July. If convicted, they face up to 50 years in prison each and millions of dollars in fines stemming from charges relating to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications and bankruptcy fraud. They are due back in court in October.

Ginsberg who? Ben Feldman's headed to Fox to romance Mindy Kaling.

According to TVLine, the "Mad Men" star has joined the Fox comedy for a two-episode arc as yet another of Mindy's love interests.

“He’s an arts and culture writer and a bit of a snob -- he kind of looks down on Mindy’s taste,” executive producer Jack Burditt said of Feldman's character. “There’s an attraction there, but also a divide between them. She’ll [sic] say things, and she has no idea what he’s talking about. [We'll see] how these two people who are very different can get along.”

Feldman is hardly the only famous face heading to "Mindy" this season. The actor will be joined by Timothy Olyphant, James Franco, Adam Pally, Kris Humphries and Glenn Howerton.

Tom Murro: Roger Federer Serves Up Some Fun At Moët & Chandon Bash In NYC

August is always slim pickings in NYC for good parties since most New Yorker's are out soaking in the sun in the Hamptons.

Thankfully Moët & Chandon decided to celebrate its 270th anniversary last Tuesday night with a super stylish celebration in New York City.

The bash was hosted by global tennis icon and Moët & Chandon brand ambassador Roger Federer at Pier59 at Chelsea Piers. International stylemakers and notables rubbed elbows while toasting the world's most-loved champagne, including singer Emeli Sandé, Kelly Bensimon, Celebrity Fitness Trainer Mike Blauner,Vanity Fairs George Wayne, Model Tyson Beckford and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, just to name a few.

"We couldn't be more pleased to be in New York City to mark Moët & Chandon's 270th anniversary, and to celebrate alongside our brand ambassador Roger Federer, with whom we introduce this stunning new campaign," said Stéphane Baschiera, President and CEO of Moët & Chandon.

About 20 min into the party, Federer took to the stage with a tennis racket saying "Maybe if you all drink a glass of Moët every day, we'll all reach 270." This is about where they rolled out a large cake that was a towering marvel featuring a replica of the Statue of Liberty and single serving bottles of Moët Impérial as Federer stood in front of it posing for pics while Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" played in the background. A few hundred pics later, Federer introduced a performance by singer Emeli Sandé, who sang a few songs including her hit "Next to Me."

Throughout the entire night, waiters were feverishly pouring the bottled heaven out of large magnums into golden goblets to a few hundred dressed to impress guests. Roger Federer and the notables lounged on couches in the VIP section and the room was covered with screens showing a model drinking Moët and Federer hitting tennis balls. In the center of the room was a long display table with cylinders of pink and white macaroons, pomegranates and grapes.

During the party Anna Wintour did her best to avoid being photographed, Kelly Bensimon floated around chatting with guests looking super hot in a leopard print dress,. while tons of girls swarmed around Tyson Beckford like bees on a hive.

The entertainment was provided by DJ Bob Sinclair who had everyone jumping on the dance-floor with some '80s and '90s music tracks.Needless to say, with unlimited bubbly pouring nonstop for hours, many guests were walking sideways by the end of the night. Always remember to drink responsibly (obligatory disclaimer).

Christina Milian has reportedly gotten engaged to boyfriend Jas Prince.

The singer-actress and Prince have kept their relationship under the radar since 2010, but Life & Style is now reporting that the couple has been engaged for a few months. A source told the magazine that she is "over-the-moon happy" and "truly enjoys their active relationship."

In April, Milian was seen sporting a diamond ring, which prompted engagement rumors too.

Milian was previously married to music producer The Dream in 2009, but their relationship ended in 2011 after he was caught cheating. They have one daughter, Violet.

Rumors are also swirling that she will be joining the next season of "Dancing With the Stars" though she has yet to confirm.

HuffPost Celebrity has reached out to the singer's reps for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

Richard Thomas: Miley's Twerk, Elvis' Twitch -- Country Reacts the Same 60 Years Later

$

While I was shocked, disturbed, and disappointed with Miley Cyrus' performance on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, the national reaction appears to be the same more than 60 years after Elvis Presley debuted his signature dance moves -- the gyrating hip thrust and leg twitch -- on television. Though Elvis is on a grander scale -- much grander I must add, the repulsive and immediate reaction by parents is nonetheless the same.

Elvis was banned from the Ed Sullivan show, prohibited from playing in Corpus Christi, and frequently threatened for his money and musical influence. "The King" carefully won over the world with his talent to become a preeminent cultural icon. The shocker with Miley is that she abruptly dropped her Disney wardrobe (no pun intended) for a complete opposite and unexpected persona -- raunchy and reckless. The public outcry and numerous comedic late night jokes were appropriate.

As a new dad and young professional, I agree with the public that Miley's "mad cow tongue" and borderline assault of Robin Thicke was way over the top. Or as my friend put it, "Watching any human molest a foam hand is disgusting. Our kids are growing up in strange times." This sentiment is very similar to views expressed in the 1950s.

The economist in me says, "You are not the consumer of this product." Enter the most troubling aspect -- Miley's influence on the next generation. Similar to Elvis, young people listen and look up to Miley Cyrus. In fact, after her VMA performance, pre-orders for her upcoming album have skyrocketed. The same phenomena happened with sold out Elvis concerts. The historical challenge for parents is managing the moral impact of celebrity influence. They have every right to be outraged and denounce the act because their toddler is now trying to "twerk." Yes -- the behavior is inappropriate, but Elvis' gyrating did not stop America from putting a man on the moon or innovating advanced technologies. Miley's moves will fail in this regard as well; however, like Elvis, she may have the opposite affect and accelerate creative economy forces.

Social media exploded moments after Miley mortified (or entertained) the masses on the VMA's. The data generated will assist enterprising organizations in marketing their products to an increasingly individualistic consumer. The hardship for parents is thwarting brain rot of the next generation which currently faces exorbitant tuition costs for college, staggering debt, and 16.3 percent unemployment rate.

America -- though outraged, this is the reality we are dealing with. The more quickly we come to terms with the next generation's infatuation with excessive expression, the more quickly we can figure out how to harness their creativity for more productive purposes. Though "The King" has left the building, the cycle of resistance, repudiation, and eventual acceptance remains.

The Strange Thing Scott Haze Did To Prepare For James Franco Movie

$

VENICE, Italy — Scott Haze says he spent three cold months living in the mountains of Tennessee, subsisting on one piece of fish and one apple a day, and sleeping in caves to prepare for the role of serial killer Lester Ballard in the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel `'Child of God."

`'I knew that this was a role that I had to go to crazy extreme lengths," Haze said in an interview Saturday ahead of the film's world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival.

Haze's Lester Ballard descends into violence after being kicked off his family's land and losing his parents, moving outside the social order into caves where he abandons himself to extreme degradation. McCarthy's character was inspired by real-life killer and body snatcher Ed Gein, who also was the basis for the Norman Bates character in `'Psycho," and Leatherface of `'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

To prepare for the Ballard role, Haze said he dropped from 195 pounds to 150 pounds (88 kilograms to 68 kilograms) on the apple-and-fish diet while living in a cabin in the Tennessee mountains, sleeping at times in caves often without a sleeping bag until the December temperatures dropped too low.

`'I slept in caves many nights with bats all around. It was crazy," Haze said. `'I let everything go, just hung out with the hillbillies and stayed as isolated as possible."

The only thing he took with him `'from society": an i-Pod loaded with Eminem music.

Director James Franco said Haze took off for the hills without consulting the director and showed up to shoot not only looking the part – undernourished, ratty beard and disheveled – but acting it. Haze `'didn't really talk to anyone, stayed to himself, and was like that for the whole shoot," Franco told reporters.

The director said audiences may think he `'found some maniac in the woods and shot him. But it is Scott giving the performance of a lifetime."

Haze said he managed to stay `'in the mind-state" while filming, conceding he was `'not in this world." He didn't check his phone, text messages or even how his beloved Lakers were doing.

`'I thought, at the end of the day, we'd have a great movie and James and I would hug each other and say we did it." Haze said. He hopes people will look back on `'Child of God" as film as pivotal as `'Taxi Driver," `'which was really shocking back in the day. And we get to say, `Hey, we did something special, and I think we did.'"

Haze and Franco, longtime collaborators, are part of a clutch of young artists in Los Angeles who are not just acting, but writing and directing films and theater.

Haze said he detoxed from the Ballard role by directing a documentary about wrestler Lee Kemp, who missed his shot at the Olympics due to the U.S. boycott of the 1980 Moscow Games, and recently built a theater in Los Angeles and started a film festival to help young actors and directors get a start.

Franco, a prolific actor, director and writer, also is appearing in Venice in `'Palo Alto," based on a book he wrote about teens in his home town, directed by Gia Coppola.

Though Haze has had film writing and directing credits and appeared in about dozen films, he isn't sure if he's had his breakthrough.

`'Maybe James Franco. Maybe," he said. `'It was big. You asked me, what is my big moment in acting. It's this. It's this movie."

Celebrity Week In Review: It's Been A Rough Week For Khloe & Lamar

$

Welcome back to our weekly recap of celebrity news.

This week has been a rough one for NBA player Lamar Odom, reality star Khloe Kardashian's husband. Last weekend, rumors swirled that the trouble in the pair's marriage was caused by Odom's persistent drug abuse.

Then it was reported that the athlete has disappeared, is nowhere to be found and is a great cause for concern for the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan. Days later Odom resurfaced, looking gaunt, only to further spark public concern for him. Then, early Friday morning, Odom was reportedly arrested in California on suspicion of a DUI. He was released hours later, after posting bond.

In unrelated news, Khloe's younger sister Kylie crashed her pricey Mercedes mere days after getting her licence. We wish that whole family well.

Another big star to dominate headlines this week was twerking fanatic Miley Cyrus, whose performance at MTV's VMAs was the talk of the town for days. In case you missed it, Miley mixed a killer combo of little-to-no clothes, grinding on a man nearly twice her age (not to mention he's a married father), sticking her tongue out and offending teddy bear organizations and the inventor of the foam finger alike. But Miley seems unfazed by the whole thing and with the support of her famous dad Billy Ray, she just won't stop.

Second-time dad Alec Baldwin, whose wife Hilaria gave birth to their daughter Carmen a week ago, lost his temper on yet another paparazzo this week. Baldwin was photographed in New York's Greenwich Village, pinning the shutterbug against a parked car. Police were called but no charges were made.

A week after rumors of Demi Lovato's nude photos made waves, the alleged pics surfaced, or so claims the Internet. In the "teaser" photos, Lovato is supposedly seen with a guy and a girl, and she's purportedly identified by her tattoos even when her face is not showing.

In couple news, two longtime celebrity pairs announced their split this week: Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, and Clint Eastwood and his wife Dina.

Zeta-Jones and Douglas are reportedly "taking a break" without seeking legal action (divorce etc.) after 13 years of marriage, whereas Dina Eastwood had reportedly confirmed to Us Weekly that she and her husband of 17 years, Clint, are no longer together.

In baby news, Jessica Simpson unveiled her adorable infant Ace to the world; Fergie gave birth to her first son, Axl; "Sopranos" star Jamie-Lynn Sigler welcomed a baby boy; James Van Der Beek and his wife announced that they're expecting a third child; and Kevin Jonas and his wife, Danielle, revealed they're expecting a girl.

Jamie Lee Curtis: Till Death Do Us Part

The gay soldier who openly challenged the government military policy of Don't Ask, Don't Tell died yesterday in a traffic accident. He was 36. His name was Darren Manzella. He was married in July. When I read that this morning I thought about courage. His courage to serve and challenge. His courage to live his life in truth, not shadows. His courage to stand up and make change. I thought about the courage of Kris Perry and Sandy Stier and Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami and Ted Olson and David Boise and Chad Griffin who joined together so that Darren could get married.

I thought about the tributes to another man who died this week, fifty years ago and of the many who died before him and after, living his dream, fighting for his dream and dying for his dream. I listened. I was sitting in my car while all the presidents spoke, I was going somewhere, I don't remember where. I felt disconnected and just part of a stream of people in cars, looking at their mobile phones at stoplights, going places. Not really doing anything. But I listened to the stories of Dr. King and the freedom fighters before and after him. They made me want to be better, less selfie-ish. Do more for others.

We are standing at the turning point of another military conflict. We are yet again faced with the agonizing decision of whether to respond militarily to another atrocity that human beings perpetrated on other innocent human beings. Do we act or react or stand aside and do nothing? The hardest decision our president has to make.

This is the Labor Day weekend. Designed to give those who labor all year long a chance at a rest, a pause. Some time in the sun before their work begins again.

As we pause, and broil or grill or just sit and watch a ball game with our friends and family, let us remember those who have worked and struggled and died for us, for us to be better people individually as well as better people as a nation. Lets commit to pitch in and help, our families, our communities, our schools. Let's make sure they all didn't die in vain. Let's make change. Let's make some noise.

This Guy Really Wants The Pope To See His Movie

VENICE, Italy — Director Stephen Frears really wants Pope Francis to see his latest film, `'Philomena," the true story of a shamed Irish woman forced by nuns to give her son up for adoption in the 1950s. He wants it so much, he said so three times during a news conference on Saturday.

`'I am very, very keen that the pope should see it, if you have any influence in those quarters," Frears told reporters ahead of the film's world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival.

Asked to explain, he said: `'He seems like a rather good bloke, the pope."

`'Philomena" stars Judi Dench in the title role as a woman who sought to locate her son, and Steve Coogan, as Martin Sixsmith, the journalist who accompanied her on her journey and wrote a 2009 book, which itself has been a catalyst for thousands of `'shamed" Irish mothers who similarly lost their children to come forward.

`'Whatever has happened in the past, a policy of openness and honesty is really the way forward. I think in a very small way, that is what this film is saying," said screenwriter Jeff Pope.

In the story, Philomena Lee has kept the out-of-wedlock birth of her son secret for 50 years, while trying to locate him through the convent where she delivered him and was forced to work for four years to repay the nuns for taking her in. She and the other young mothers there were allowed to see their children for an hour a day.

Philomena's child, Anthony, was adopted when he was three. On his 50th birthday she grows a new determination to find out how his life turned out and if he ever thought of her – finally revealing her secret. Sixsmith, a cynical former political journalist who was just fired from a government job, reluctantly takes on the human interest story and sets off on a journey to the United States with Philomena – a pairing that gives comedic turns to the tragic story.

Coogan, who also co-wrote the screenplay, said the film needed some comic relief, `'otherwise it would be just a tragic, depressing story. The humor was important to lighten the mood, and sugar the pill. It was also important we didn't overdo it. I said, `If I mug too much, or if my face becomes too animated, tell me to turn it down.' "

He said most of Frears' direction was motioning from the side to bring it down a notch.

Dench called it `'a shockingly terrible story, and it rightly should be told." The actress met Philomena several times before filming, and admired her enduring faith and ability to forgive, which `'is what makes her extreme, and makes the story worth telling," Dench said.
