Vanessa Hudgens Steps Out In Spandex

It's clear that Vanessa Hudgens works hard for her toned body, as the "Spring Breakers" star was spotted after a pilates workout in Studio City, Calif., on Thursday.

Photographers snapped photos of the 24-year-old actress who was decked out in skin-tight spandex yoga pants and a grey tank top, and seemed to exhibit a post-workout glow. After getting her fitness on, Hudgens continued her health kick by picking up some juices over at Pressed Juicery.

No wonder the former "High School Musical" star looked so fit when she learned how to surf last week with pal Ashley Greene.

Katie Couric: Colorectal Cancer Screening Saves Lives

$
0
0

A recent New York Times front page story on health care in the U.S. in general, and colonoscopy in particular, raised a vexing question: Is our health care system rife with individuals and businesses jacking up the cost of this potentially lifesaving procedure, as the article implies? If so, shame on them.

I hope readers -- after hearing about the wild cost variations for colonoscopy and the horror stories of people getting stuck with sizable portions of huge bills -- don't throw the proverbial baby out with the bath water by questioning the essential value of colorectal cancer screening. Watching a loved one die of cancer is devastating, particularly if the death -- indeed the cancer itself -- could have been prevented. And that, more often than not, is the case with colorectal cancer.

Sixteen years have passed since the day my seemingly healthy husband, Jay Monahan, doubled over in pain. With a tumor the size of an orange completely obstructing his bowels, the diagnosis was bleak: Stage IV colon cancer. I will never forget the courage, grace, and humor Jay showed as he was forced to confront his impending mortality from that terrible day until his death nine months later.

My mind can still quickly go to an endless loop of "coulda, woulda, shoulda..." Was Jay's sensitive stomach, and the ever-present roll of TUMS in his pocket, an indication something was terribly wrong? Should I have forced him to see a doctor? His new, second career as a television legal analyst was exciting, but flying all over the country -- covering trials like O.J. Simpson's and Timothy McVeigh's -- left Jay feeling tired... or so we thought. I've asked myself a million times: was Jay's fatigue a function of a hectic work schedule or the result of cancer that had likely been growing and spreading for years?

If we had been educated about these symptoms, and had Jay been tested, he might be alive today. That's why, after his tragic and premature death, I have made it my mission to talk to anyone who will listen about screening, prevention, and early detection.

The disease often can be prevented entirely when precancerous polyps are detected through screening and removed before they turn into cancer. Last year, a New England Journal of Medicine paper (Zauber AG, Winawer SJ, O'Brien MJ, et al. Colonoscopic Polypectomy and Long-Term Prevention of Colorectal-Cancer Deaths. N Engl J Med 2012; 366:687-696), confirmed that colonoscopies save lives. Researchers found "an estimated 53 percent reduction in mortality from colorectal cancer" in patients who had precancerous polyps removed during a colonoscopy.

Colorectal cancer often has no symptoms, which is one reason being tested is so important -- even for people who feel perfectly healthy. Some small, malignant growths can be removed during a colonoscopy, and when detected at an early stage, colorectal cancer is highly curable.

JAMA Surgery -- an American Medical Association journal -- recently published a paper reaffirming the benefits of screening colonoscopy, in which the authors wrote: "Compliance to screening colonoscopy guidelines can play an important role in prolonging longevity, improving quality of life, and reducing health care costs through early detection of colon cancer." (Amri R, Bordeianou LG, Sylla P, Berger DL. Impact of Screening Colonoscopy on Outcomes in Colon Cancer Surgery. JAMA Surg. 2013;():1-7.)

I also have firsthand evidence of colonoscopy's lifesaving value, in the form of many letters I've received with feedback like this: "You had a colonoscopy on TV and you urged people to get checked. I was having problems and did have a colonoscopy. Polyps were removed and a mass was discovered. I had surgery... and about a foot of the colon, along with the mass, which was cancer, were removed. Thank you for encouraging people to have a colonoscopy. I know it saved my life."

We've made good strides in reducing the number of lives taken by colorectal cancer in the past decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the colorectal cancer death rate fell by an average of 3 percent per year from 2003 to 2007 -- meaning this disease took the lives of 31,800 fewer Americans than expected during this period. Half of that decrease can be attributed to more people being screened. But colorectal cancer remains the second-leading cancer killer of men and women combined in the U.S., and about 22 million people who should be screened haven't been, or their screenings are not up to date in accordance with the suggested guidelines.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), an independent panel of experts appointed by the federal government to develop guidelines for preventive services like cancer screening, recommends that people at average risk of developing colorectal cancer get screened beginning at age 50, through age 75, using one of three methods; colonoscopy every ten years is among them. People over 75 should talk to their doctors about whether they need to be screened. Complications are relatively rare, but asking about a physician's adherence to the national quality standards for colonoscopy is part of being an educated health care consumer.

Flexible sigmoidoscopy is a similar procedure, also approved by the USPSTF, and should be done every five years, accompanied by a high-sensitivity fecal occult blood test (FOBT) every three years. But the so called flex sig examines only the interior of the rectum and lower part of the colon, and research suggests that certain ethnic groups -- African-Americans, to name one -- have a higher risk than others of developing polyps in the upper part of the colon.

The third screening methodology that the USPSTF recommends is an annual screening with the high-sensitivity FOBT, a test that looks for occult (hidden) blood in stool samples. The presence of blood may indicate cancer or other abnormalities. If blood is found, follow-up testing -- using colonoscopy -- is necessary to determine the source and cause. An accurate FOBT, while valuable, cannot identify and prevent potential cancers when they are still benign polyps the way colonoscopy can.

So for me, colonoscopy was the test I wanted to have done. At age 43, I chose to have mine televised to help demystify an invasive, but potentially lifesaving procedure -- with an unappealing prep -- to which many people had a knee-jerk aversion. Several cancer advocacy groups have worked to open up an important public dialogue about screening for this largely preventable disease.

As a society, we clearly HAVE to figure out a way to manage our health care costs more effectively. Giving patients more information about the cost of a procedure (and what their share will be) before it happens could help people make smarter choices about their health care. The cancer research community is also doing its part: scientists are working to achieve the promise of a colon cancer blood test that would be non-invasive and potentially less expensive than colonoscopy.

I hope no one -- the average-risk 50-year-old who should be screened nor insurance company executives responsible for reimbursement policies -- concluded, after reading theTimes article, that colonoscopy is somehow not worth it. Colonoscopies save lives.

But the best test, of course, is the one that gets done.

My older daughter, who was six when she lost her Dad, just graduated from college. At events big and small in my girls' lives, I think about how proud Jay would be if he were there. He can't be, but the lives of other dads, mothers, sisters, brothers, colleagues, and friends can be saved.

More than 50,000 Americans are expected to die from colorectal cancer this year alone. We need to reduce that number by seeing that everyone who should be screened for colorectal cancer gets screened -- whatever method is used. I'll continue to honor my husband's memory by encouraging people to do just that.

Will Deen Dance Her Way To Redemption?

Paula Deen is in need of some serious damage control, and she may be looking to "Dancing With The Stars" for a chance at redemption.

After her "Today" interview with Matt Lauer didn't help quiet the controversy about her history of racist comments -- Deen has lost multiple sponsorships, including Wal-Mart, Target and QVC, since -- the disgraced former Food Network star hired Judy Smith, the woman who inspired "Scandal's" Olivia Pope. Now Deen may try to dance her troubles away.

Rumors about Deen joining "Dancing With The Stars" for the show's Season 17 have surfaced. Rob Shuter reports that an insider close to the ABC competition series said, "The producers would love to have Paula join the cast of next season ... They have a history of casting controversial people like Kate Gosselin and Bristol Palin, if Paula says ‘yes,’ you can add her to that list.”

When The Huffington Post reached out to ABC for comment, a spokesperson said, "We don’t comment on casting until we officially announce."

This isn't the first time Deen has been rumored to join the "Dancing With The Stars" cast. Before Season 14 kicked off in early 2012, ABC reportedly asked Deen to join the show in the wake of her announcement that she has Type 2 diabetes. "'Producers love Paula’s likability and think it would guarantee she’d be around for a couple weeks, regardless,” an insider told HollywoodLife.com at the time.

In 2010, Deen, who said she's a fan of "Dancing With The Stars," told "Extra!" that she'd been asked to be on the show, but turned them down. Why wouldn't she consider hitting the dance floor? "Fat girls don't look good sweating. I've got catfish arms ... And I've got -- is that a muffin top right there?"

Deen or no Deen, "Dancing With The Stars" Season 17 will bring some surprises for longtime fans. It will be the first season to not have a results show since the second season and rumor has it, there may also be new judges on the panel.

"Dancing With The Stars" Season 17 kicks off this fall on Mondays on ABC.

She's a four-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter who has sold more than 10 million records worldwide. But on an episode of "Super Soul Sunday," India.Arie tells Oprah her definition of success has nothing to do with billboard charts or record sales.

"I decided to write down my definition of success, which is, 'Clarity of my intention and reaching that intention while being true to myself and with joy,'" India.Arie says. "You know, what's the point in having it all if you don't feel good? ... You know, I know what it's like to have millions of dollars and have an ulcer you can't get out of bed and you can't drink water. You know, it's just like, what good is that?"

Jay-Z Will Indeed Be Taking Over Times Square

Jay-Z will indeed be granted the opportunity to perform atop the famed Ed Sullivan Theater marquee, near New York City's Times Square.

The July 8 concert has been given the go-ahead by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who in 2010 stopped the rapper from hosting a stint with Eminem on the marquee. The duo moved their set to the building's roof, but now the home of "The Late Show with David Letterman" will host Jay-Z in his proper glory.

In order to host the concert, New York officials will have to shut down part of Broadway near the theater, between West 53rd and 54th streets, according to the New York Post. Jay-Z joins the ranks of Phish and Paul McCartney, both of whom have rocked out on the marquee.

The Ed Sullivan performance comes in conjunction with Jay-Z's appearance on "The Late Show" and his ongoing marketing campaign for upcoming album "Magna Carter Holy Grail," which will be released four days prior to the concert. The rapper has unveiled one promotional material after the next, including lyrics to songs, behind-the-scenes promos and, most recently, a video in which he talks about his fears of being a father. The "Veronica Mars" movie cast is growing. Justin Long was spotted on set of the film continuation of the cult-hit series and E! Online reports he'll have a cameo in the movie.

Long was reportedly spotted filming with Kristen Bell and Krysten Ritter. Bell played the titular role for three seasons on UPN and The CW. Ritter played Gia Goodman during "Veronica Mars's" second season.

It was revealed earlier this month that Christine Lakin of "Step by Step" fame was returning for the "Veronica Mars" movie. The actress tweeted enthusiastically about being on set on Friday.

Lakin appeared in the first season of "Veronica Mars" as Susan Knight. Her character had a baby with Adam Scott's teacher character Chuck Rooks.

"Party Down" stars Ken Marino and Martin Starr also recently joined the cast of the "Veronica Mars" movie.

The "Veronica Mars" movie is set years after the 2007 series finale and features Veronica's high school reunion. Bell was recently spotted filming a scene with co-star Chris Lowell (Stosh "Piz" Piznarski) that ignited fan response.

Halle Berry is one chic mom-to-be.

The gorgeous 46-year-old actress walked around Culver City, Calif. with a friend yesterday and gave us a full view of her growing baby bump.

Berry, who's expecting her second child -- a son with fiance actor Olivier Martinez -- wore a flowy blue maxi dress and flip flops, accessorized with sunglasses and a giant tote. She looked every part the svelte, Hollywood nymph we know her to be, but from the side, her bump was fully visible.

Just this week, Berry appeared at the California Capitol to testify for a bill that would limit the ability of paparazzi to photograph the children of celebrities and public figures. "If [the bill] passes, the quality of my life and my children's lives will be dramatically changed," said Berry

Mariah Carey and Miguel scored a nice hit this summer with their “#Beautiful” collaboration. And to help capitalize on its success, they’re releasing it again…in a new Spanglish format.

"#Hermosa” still has the same hashtag and backbeat, but the lyrics got a new tweak. Here, Mimi and Miguel trade Espanol lines and offer direct shout outs to their Latino fans.

Technically a remix, “#Hermosa” is actually the third version of “#Beautiful” to hit iTunes. Earlier in the month, Carey and Miguel released a hip-hop tinged varation with rapper A$AP Rocky.

We actually like “#Hermosa” the best of all three. The Spanish lyrics add a sexy touch and seem to blend well with the powerful guitars. You can hear it for yourself by clicking here.

'My Bottom Was Gonna Be Death'

Eminem has opened up about his addiction to prescription drugs, admitting in a new documentary that the pills he once popped in excess almost killed him.

"People tried to tell me that I had a problem," the rapper said in "How to Make Money Selling Drugs," a film described as "an indictment on the war on drugs" by the Los Angeles Times. "I would say 'Get that f***king person outta here. I'm not out there shooting heroin. I'm not f***king out there putting coke up my nose. I'm not smoking crack."

Instead, Eminem, born Marshall Mathers, explained to filmmaker Matthew Cooke that it was prescription drugs like Xanax and Valium that proved life-threatening.

"My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything," he said of the time when he was hospitalized after a night of excessive pill-popping. "They were gonna have to put me on dialysis. They didn't think I was gonna make it. My bottom was gonna be death."

Battling his addiction was difficult, admitted the 40-year-old performer, who relapsed after his hospitalization -- but he stressed in the documentary that it wasn't impossible.

"I just couldn’t believe that anybody could be naturally happy or naturally function or be just enjoying life in general without being on something," he said, adding that his sense of responsibility to his children helped him kick the habit. "So I would say to anybody, 'It does get better.'"

This isn't the first time that Eminem has spoken candidly about his drug addiction. In 2009, he told Vibe magazine that "it's no secret I had a drug problem." That same year, he told XXL Magazine that it took him so long to recover because he "didn’t really think [he] had a problem."

As TODAY.com notes, "How to Make Money Selling Drugs," which hit theaters this week, was produced by "Entourage" star Adrian Grenier and features interviews with several celebrities including Susan Sarandon, 50 Cent and Woody Harrelson.

Time To 'Dance Apocalyptic' With Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae is in the thick of a fierce rollout for her upcoming album "The Electric Lady," which has now received a Sept. 10 release date. Her signature style -- heavy on black-and-white outfits, funky dance grooves and optimal use of her wide-eyed facial expressions -- is on full display in the Erykah Badu-collaborating video for "Q.U.E.E.N." as well as her newly released song "Dance Apocalyptic."

The fresh track is one of Monae's most high-adrenaline offerings, combining a Jackson 5 vibe with a chorus that's reminiscent of Mark Ronson & The Business Intl's 2010 hit "Bang Bang Bang." It makes sense that "Apocalyptic" would sound Jackson-esque, as the singer is clearly in that sort of mood: The deluxe edition of "Electric Lady," released via an exclusive partnership with Target, will feature four additional tracks, including a cover of "I Want You Back." (A pre-order of "Lady" is available now.)

While no plans for a new round of Monae's mystic onstage presence have been announced, it seems inevitable that the 27-year-old singer will tour. In the meantime, she'll take the BET Awards stage on Sunday night and hold court as a performer at New Orleans' Essence Festival on July 7.

HuffPost Entertainment snagged a few minutes with Monae on Friday evening to discuss her Target partnership and how the singer feels about the inundation of album leaks that have punctured the music industry.

Hi, Janelle. Where are you calling from?
Los Angeles, Calif.

I know you have a ton of stuff going on right now. How did the Target partnership come about, and how you are feeling about its progress?
I’m honored. I’m thankful that I get the chance to partner with Target. I’ve been a business owner for the second time, and I produced my own CDs and I used to sell them out of my boarding house in Atlanta, Ga. People would literally knock on my door and buy my CDs for $5.

How old were you when this was going on?
I don’t believe in age. I was 50 years old. So what that being said, I am just grateful I can get the music to my fans who live in different states and they don’t have to fly and knock on my boarding-house door to get a CD. They can go directly in Target. My family, who live in Kansas, they can go directly in Target. Plus, as a business owner and someone who wants my music to reach as many people as possible, it’s an incredible partnership with Target.

These elaborate partnerships with places like Target and iTunes seem to be a big trend in the music industry right now. Jay-Z is doing Samsung right now. What do you think it adds to the business and how the album will play out commercially to adopt one of these partnerships that so many artists seem to be doing?
I’ve always been about partnering and figuring out the best way to serve the customer, and, you know, people shop at these places. The benefit of Target -- and I can only speak for myself -- is everyone goes there. It is a place where people go and they buy not just CDs, but lotion and so many different things. So I think times are changing, and as a businesswoman I own my own recording label and I want to have all of our music available in stores. And I think the great thing is I get to be who I am. Target doesn’t ask me to change who I am, or I haven’t felt the need to change who I am. I’m exactly Janelle Monae. We’re partnering to get my message out to as many people as possible, which is exactly what it’s all about.

We have a few months to go until the album hits stores, and over the past few years we’ve seen a huge proliferation of albums leaking. Is there anything you’re doing to hopefully prevent that between now and September?
Well, I have a patrol in from the future watching everyone in the present. All eyes are watching. And I mean, if that does happen, again, my goal has always been to get the music to the people, to inspire them, to uplift them. And everybody can’t afford music; it’s my gift. It doesn’t belong to me once it’s out there. It’s not mine anymore, it’s yours.

What do you think it says about the state of the music business and the digital world that people are leaking albums and jumping the gun on artists’ work?
Some artists wants their music to be leaked, honestly. I’ve heard stories where people do it; they’re professional leakers. Some artists want that to happen, I guess. But I’m not one to wish that or want that to happen. If it does, then it’s in the cards. I believe that things are gonna happen; they’re already predestined. I have very respectful fans and I just feel like this is my project. You’re cheating yourself if you don’t go through the full experience, the one that I’ve prepared, because I know from the beginning to end what is going to happen. So if you jump the gun and you go out of order, you won’t be able to fully enjoy the movie, if you come in on the middle of it. So I would just give a warning: You are not going to be able to maximize your full experience, and you should wait for what the artist says to do and when he or she releases the music.

Katie Holmes reportedly "blindsided" Tom Cruise -- and the tabloids -- when she filed for divorce on June 29, 2012.

But exactly one year later, it seems that both Cruise and Holmes have settled into their newly single lives. A source recently told People magazine that Holmes has embraced her new home, New York, and life as a single mom.

"She is in her prime," the source reportedly said. "And truly enjoying the life she is creating for herself."

Shortly after the divorce was finalized, Holmes appeared in the Broadway play "Dead Accounts", which ran from November 2012 to January 2013. She is currently filming the indie movie "Mania Days" in New York.

Cruise has continued to work steadily since the split, starring in several blockbusters including "Rock of Ages," "Oblivion," and "Jack Reacher." The action star will also be reprising his role as Ethan Hunt in the fifth "Mission Impossible" film, which is currently in pre-production.

The former couple tied the knot in November 2006 in an extravagant ceremony at an Italian castle. They were married for six years before splitting last June. The divorce was finalized less than two months after Holmes filed for divorce.

Bad news for Chris Brown.

The singer was charged with a hit-and-run stemming from a minor car accident that occurred in May. Brown was charged with driving without a valid license after he allegedly refused to give the other driver his I.D. and offered fake insurance information. He could face up to six months in jail for each offense.

In other news, Miley Cyrus is still acting strange. The 20-year-old appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" earlier this week and admitted that she pretty much gets high all the time. She also confessed that that's why she and Snoop Lion are such good pals.

Cyrus also performed during the segment, getting a little frisky with some female dancers.

Also this week, dozens of celebrities said their final goodbyes at James Gandolfini's funeral, Amanda Bynes attacked yet another star on Twitter, Kristen Bell proposed to Dax Shepard after the DOMA ruling and Adele's baby boy made his big debut.

Celebrating the Defense of Marriage Act's demise this week, Lady Gaga took to the stage at the Gay Pride Parade's Kick-Off Rally in New York City on Friday night to express her love and allegiance to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

"When I was in high school and grade school and younger, I was considered to be an outcast and I just couldn’t find my place," the long-time LGBT ally said with emotion, addressing the cheering crowd. "[But] there was a particular crowd who did accept me. There was a particular crowd who made room for me at their table, who held me up when I felt I couldn’t, who loved me for exactly who I was. It was you. And to stand here equal to you tonight, it's been a dream of mine since my very first experiences with the LGBT community..." (Watch her full speech at Livestream here.)

After delivering her moving speech during which she thanked the Supreme Court and all LGBT allies, Gaga -- who said the queer community has "saved" her and protected her through the years -- raised a Pride flag and began belting out the National Anthem, improvising slightly as she sang.

"Oh say does that star-spangled flag of pride yet wave," she crooned to the roaring delight of those gathered.

"Pitch Perfect" fans rejoice -- there's a new pitch perfect couple in town!

Two of the movie's biggest stars -- Anna Camp and Skylar Astin -- are reportedly dating, according to Us Weekly. The two "made it official" when they attended the 3rd Annual 24 Hour Plays in Santa Monica, Calif. this week, and left the event together.

Camp, 30, and Astin, 25, have "known each other for a while" and "have amazing chemistry," sources tell the magazine.

The gorgeous blonde just recently split from her husband of three years, actor Michael Mosley, who cited "irreconcilable differences" for the divorce, according to TMZ. Astin, who's close friends with "Glee"'s breakout star Lea Michele, doesn't seem to have any famous exes on his roster.

Over the past couple of weeks, a smitten-looking Camp posted photos of her and her new main man to Instagram, writing:

Kanye West says he doesn't care about radio singles, yet here one comes. "Black Skinhead" will serve as the first official release from "Yeezus," and the rapper will film a music video to accompany it.

The radio-friendly version of "Skinhead" is currently being sent to DJs, and the video is planned for a debut in time for the Fourth of July weekend, according to Billboard.

The announcement comes after the marketing campaign for "Yeezus" centered on videos being projected on buildings' walls. No singles were released prior to the album, and the first time we heard "Skinhead" was during West's performance on "Saturday Night Live."

"When you listen to radio, that isn't where I want to be any more. And, honestly, at this point, I could give a f--k about selling a million records," West announced June 10 during his performance at New York's Governor's Ball.

A Whole Lot Of Roseanne Could Be Coming Your Way

Roseanne Barr is working on another TV comeback, this time with a big NBC deal.

According to Deadline, Roseanne and NBC are near a deal for a new sitcom that would receive a straight-to-series 10 episode order with the popular 10/90 model. The deal, which is similar to what FX gave Charlie Sheen for "Anger Management," allows the network to test out the sitcom with the first 10 episodes. Should they prove a hit, 90 more will be ordered through a syndication deal.

Roseanne's latest comeback attempt is a collaboration with "Nurse Jackie" co-creator Linda Wallem, The Hollywood Reporter also reported. Roseanne previously attempted a sitcom comeback co-starring opposite John Goodman in the "Downwardly Mobile" pilot for the 2012-2013 TV season.

FX recently ordered two sitcoms, one with George Lopez headlining and the other with Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer, following the 10/90 model.

Sheen's sitcom on FX started off strong in the ratings. The series premiere had more than 5 million viewers. Now in its second season, some "Anger Management" episodes have fallen below 1 million viewers.

Drake Leads At BET Awards With 12 Nominations

The BET Awards should be called the Drake Awards.

The rapper-singer is up for 12 honors, including five nominations for video of the year, which has 10 nominees.

His own hits – "Started from the Bottom" and "HYFR" – are up for the top prize, as well as his guest appearances on 2 Chainz's "No Lie," A$AP Rocky's "(Expletive) Problems" and Kendrick Lamar's "Poetic Justice." Other video of the year nominees are Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie," Rihanna's "Diamonds," "Adorn" by Miguel, Kanye West's "Mercy" and "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

While 26-year-old Drake is mostly battling himself for the night's top award – to air live Sunday from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live – some of his friends (and enemies) will blaze the stage, including Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown, who is nominated for best male R&B artist. Minaj, who has won best female hip-hop artist for three consecutive years, is up for the honor again with little competition.

But the animated rapper isn't the only diva taking the stage: Mariah Carey is also set to sing her latest single, "(hash)Beautiful," with Miguel.

Justin Timberlake, who has four nominations including best male R&B artist and best collaboration for "Suit & Tie" with Jay-Z, will also perform. Other performers include Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, India.Arie, Ciara and Robin Thicke, who's "Blurred Lines" is spending its third week on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

2 Chainz and Lamar, who had a breakthrough this year with his critically acclaimed major label debut, "good kid, m.A.A.d city," follow Drake with eight nominations each.

Timberlake, Drake, Lamar, Rocky, Miguel and Rihanna will compete for the fan-voted viewer's choice award. Charlie Wilson will earn the lifetime achievement award and Dwyane Wade, who recently won the NBA Finals with the Miami Heat, will receive the humanitarian award.

Chris Tucker will host the awards show, and presenters include Jamie Foxx, Angela Bassett, Paula Patton and Gabrielle Union.

Sunday's BET Awards is the last part of the network's three-day, weekend event dubbed "BET Experience at L.A. Live." It kicked off Friday with a Beyonce concert, and other performers throughout the weekend included Miguel, The Jacksons and R. Kelly.
