Blind Pup Celeb To Drop Puck For Boston Bruins?

0
0

Ray Charles, the blind Golden Retriever puppy who conquered the Internet with cuteness last week, is ready to melt hearts in the National Hockey League.

A petition is circulating to let Ray drop the puck at a Boston Bruins playoff game. As USA Today points out, Ray was adopted by a Boston family; therefore the Bruins are his team.

To prove it, he's wearing a Bruins hat and jersey in a much-traveled photo below (scroll to continue story.)

The petition signatures had topped 3,000 as of Wednesday afternoon. "Ray Charles is an inspiration to all!" wrote one anonymous commenter. "He is loved by many and deserves this opportunity."

If team officials are game, they might want to hustle. The Bruins open their Eastern Conference playoff series against the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The Bruins' first home game in the matchup is June 5.

It would be awfully hard to turn down this little guy.

We See London, We See France, We See These Stars' Underpants

Stacy Keibler got social media sites swirling this week after a photo of her flashing her pink G-string hit the web.

George Clooney's other-half suffered the embarrassing wardrobe malfunction while at the Monaco Grand Prix on May 25, obviously forgetting to zip up her red romper.

Still, Keibler got a kick out of her fashion faux-pas, tweeting:

But let's not forget, Clooney's girl isn't the only female star to accidentally flash her skivvies.

Let's take a look at some other celebs who unintentionally gave us quite the show:

Animal Planet's Game-Changing Hoax

The most-watched telecast in Animal Planet's history is about mermaids.

Sunday's "documentary" Mermaids: The New Evidence delivered 3.6 million viewers, shattering the network's ratings record. Yup, even bigger than the Puppy Bowl. The program is not only a hoax, but a sequel to a hoax -- to last year's rather effortlessly debunked Mermaids: The Body Found, which fooled more viewers than you'd think.

Brian Friedman: Shooting Stars: 5 Do's and Dont's for Photographing Celebrities

0
0

I've had the distinct pleasure of photographing some big stars over the years. Some have been from afar -- like when I'm shooting a big concert -- but recently I've been doing more and more portrait sessions where I have one-on-one contact with the talent.

Experience has taught me this: They are simply people, doing their job just as I am. Also, I often say that idols are relative, and typically the stars I photograph aren't the ones that I'd faint over. This works to my benefit in so many ways, and might be part of why I continue to get called for these types of shoots.

Using the recent sessions I did for the animated film Epic as an example, here's a few things I've learned over the years when working with big stars. Most of these tips revolve around creating and maintaining mutual respect. In most cases, the celebrity already has it just by walking into the room, but you, an unfamiliar entity to the star and his/her handlers, have to establish it. Play your cards right, and you'll probably get rehired!

1. Never gush about how much you love their work before taking the photo.

This will make you just like 99 percent of the rest of the world to them -- a fan and not a colleague. Your goal is to be their "trusted partner," not a fan who just happens to be a professional photographer. You can, however, find something else to chat about before the shoot to break the ice. When I was with Colin Farrell, for instance, we talked about the most random thing: The food court at The Plaza Hotel. Why? Because two weeks before I even knew I'd be photographing him, I saw him down there by the crepe stand. He told me how much he loves the crepes over there, and I told him how much I love the little wine and cheese bar. This was 30 seconds, but it worked perfectly. =In instances where there is NOTHING to talk about, do just that -- don't talk! The point: separate yourself from their fans. And if you find yourself having a moment with the talent after you've done your job, then maybe bring up the film you loved them in, but keep in mind that you're not telling them anything a hundred people haven't already told them. I think the smarter play is to avoid it all together.

2013-05-28-Ronin_char_card_r3_TK01_edit_rgbhp.jpg

2. Always shake their hand before the shoot.

I've found this to be a very effective way of breaking down the barriers. Just as you would any client, treat stars no differently. Touch breaks down barriers and creates a connection, and given the short amount of time you'll probably have with them, I've found this to be the most effective way of doing so. P.S. Make sure your hand isn't sweaty!

3. Don't stare or hover.

If the talent walks in the room, do not stare at them. In fact, leave the room if you can! Despite being their photographer for that moment, I'm still considered a "crew member" and therefore should stay away! Often, sensitive details of a project are being discussed among producers, and it's just a better play to not be standing around when this is going on. I always keep in the back of my mind that there are directors and producers watching me and the way I'm behaving. This is monumentally important to remember because it's those people that are hiring you, recommending you for other gigs, and reporting back to the studio about "how the day went." Also, when your part is done, get out of there as fast as you can!

2013-05-28-tara_char_card_r3_TK01_edithp.jpg

4. Never take an iPhone photo, post sensitive information on Facebook, or do anything that could come back to bite you in the butt.

When I do these shoots, I never talk about them in any detail until I know I can. I may say I'm working with so-and-so on a given day, but never which project or film. I just know that my client wouldn't look favorably upon me talking about details of films that are still in production. This blog post itself is an exercise in that. The Epic shoots were done in the fall of 2012, yet other than saying I was working with these actors, no photo nor info about the project has seen the light of day until now because the studio hadn't released these images until now! Gotta be very careful about this stuff -- you don't want to get "blacklisted" for having loose lips!

5. When you are finished, look them in the eye, thank them, and wish them luck. That's it.

Sure, you may never again get as close as you just did, but so be it. Be grateful you had the opportunity to work one-on-one with them in the first place. And maybe following the above tips may just land you in a position to do it again. You never know!

The Real Reason They Left Disney's 'Suite Life'

0
0

If you watched the Disney Channel at any point between 2005 to 2011, you probably would recognize Dylan Sprouse, one half of the duo that starred in the wildly popular series, "The Suite Life With Zack and Cody," and its spinoff, "The Suite Life on Deck."

In a YouTube series called "Conversations with Nat" (which seems to be related to NYU, where Dylan is a student), the former child star explained why he and his twin brother, Cole, decided to part ways with Disney after growing up on the network. The video surfaced on Wednesday, May 29 but has now been set to private on YouTube.

Going to college was the primary reason for their departure, Dylan explained, because getting a higher education was something they both valued. But what some fans may not know is that the brothers had deferred their acceptances to NYU for a year so they could continue with "Suite Life."

"[We thought], 'if we're going to do one last season, it's going to be on our terms. We're going to produce it, and it will be a setup for a new show,'' Dylan said. "It would [also have] set up all the cast and crew we worked with for six years so they wouldn't lose their jobs over our decision to go to college."

Dylan also said in the interview that the brothers formally pitched their fleshed-out "Suite Life" spinoff idea to Disney, and their proposal was turned down. Later, though, the network came back to Dylan and Cole with an idea of their own.

"They pitched us our idea, in Miami, with Selena Gomez. And Cole and I turned to each other ... we basically laughed in their face and walked out," Dylan said. "That was the last meeting we had with Disney. We were just like no, that was the end."

Not only did the brothers sever ties with the Disney Channel in 2011, but they also chose to leave the acting world completely. (Dylan and Cole had previously done some non-TV work, most notably starring in the 1999 movie "Big Daddy" alongside Adam Sandler.)

"Historically, Disney Channel stars don't survive well outside of the Disney environment ... we decided that we should go and get a higher education [and also] give time for people to forget about us," he said. "If we left and returned four years later after we've grown, gained an education, looked physically different ... it would only do good for us."

The Huffington Post reached out to Disney for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

Considering the fates of some other former child stars (here's looking at you, Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan), we'd venture to say that the Sprouse brothers' decision was remarkably self-aware -- and hopefully having a college education will only benefit their careers in the future.

What do you think? Are you surprised by the young actors' less-than-warm parting with the Disney Channel? Sound off in the comments below or tweet your thoughts @HuffPostTeen.

Update: Disney responded to The Huffington Post and declined to comment.

LOOK: You'll Never Guess Who This Blonde Grew Up To Be

Dita Von Teese is a total badass. She's a model, an actress, a designer and pretty much the burlesque queen of the world. Turns out, she was once a regular high school student -- you know, just like us, except for the bedazzled crop tops (scroll for images).

Last night, Von Teese tweeted a Vine video of some photos she found from her 9th and 10th grade days. Who knew the woman known for perfecting the art of dark hair and a bold, red lip was once a teenager with big, bright blond hair?

Unsurprisingly she's pretty darn cute. But what we love about Von Teese more than her looks is how intelligent and confident she always seems to be.

"I didn't feel like I could relate to a lot of the modern images of beauty. Like, I can't get a tan. I don't have supermodel feature," she told CNN in 2012. "I think a lot of my fans feel the same way, like, my look -- the lipstick and the curled hair and the lingerie and the red nails -- it doesn't depend on age -- you don't have to be young to have this look. You don't have to be thin. You can be any ethnicity. It's about the creation of glamour and about taking it into your own hands."

Preach, Dita.

Steve Carell dropped by "The Ellen Show" this week and debuted a different look.

The 50-year-old actor appeared on Ellen DeGeneres' talkshow done-up as his character Gru from the animated flick "Despicable Me." Carell sported a bald head, fake nose piece, and Gru's trademark oversized shoulders -- take a look in the video above. He even rocked Gru's outfit from the film: a black coat and striped scarf.

Carell spoke in the voice of his character Gru, marking his first appearance on television. Hyping his next film, Carell as Gru showed off some of his best dance moves, breaking it down with the audience.

Carell is reprising his role in the upcoming sequel to "Despicable Me." Also featuring the voices of Kristen Wiig and Benjamin Bratt, among others, "Despicable Me 2" hits theaters on July 3.

Everything Ron Swanson Has Eaten On 'Parks & Rec'

Ron Swanson's love affair with meat is one of this past decade's great TV romances. But Parks and Recreation fans might be surprised to learn that Swanson hasn't only shoved charred mammal flesh down his gullet in the last five seasons. There have also been peppers, pretzels, and, in one bizarre scenario, a salad. There's only one thing more impressive than Ron Swanson's mustache — his appetite.

LOOK: Fans Get A Chance To View Sofía Vergara's Figure

Fans eager to catch a glimpse of Sofía Vergara’s curvaceous figure are about to have their wish granted -- well, sort of.

On Thursday, Madame Tussauds announced plans to reveal not one but two wax figures of the "Modern Family" actress at their Times Square location on June 4. The famous wax museum known for immortalizing celebrities with life-like wax replicas intends to display one of the Colombian’s figures in New York and the other at their Las Vegas location, according to a press release.

Despite her busy schedule, the 40-year-old beauty sat down with a team of studio artists who took measurements and carefully matched Vergara’s eye color, hair, and posture:

(Check out more pictures below)

The Emmy-nominated actress donated the silver Marchesa gown she wore to the 2012 Met Gala for the figure in the Big Apple, while the Las Vegas replica will don a leopard print and black dress that her character Gloria on "Modern Family" wore for Season 3 promo pics.

For those hoping to see the real Sofía, the actress plans to personally unveil her figures at the Times Square event on Tuesday.

After recently earning the No. 38 spot on Forbes’ list of “Most Powerful Women,” it’s no mystery why the star will now be joining the likes of President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Prince William at the famous attractions.

What other stars would you like to see immortalized in wax? Let us know in the comments and check out below more pictures of Sofía goofing around during her sitting for measurements with the artists.

19 Celebrities Who Married 'Normal' People

They may be celebrities, but when it comes to love, some of Hollywood's elite don't mix work with pleasure.

Actually, many stars are married to what we like to refer to as "normal" or "regular" people, who are more focused on their day-to-day grinds than the spotlight. Take Matt Damon for example -- the actor met former bartender Luciana Barroso while in Miami and the pair tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in Dec. 2005. They just renewed their vows in April after eight years of marriage.

And speaking of walking down the aisle, "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul married his girlfriend Lauren Parsekian on May 26, after becoming engaged in Jan. 2012. The couple met at a Coachella Music Festival in Indio, Calif.

Reyne Haines: Carmen Electra Says She's Got a 'Bigger D*ck'

I had the pleasure of talking to Carmen Electra the other day about her recent music endeavors. It seems she has come full circle. Her career in the entertainment industry started about 22 years ago. Who knew becoming a dancer at an amusement park in Ohio would be a stepping stone to a very interesting career? Upon arriving in California she was discovered by Prince (as in Purple Rain Prince!)

Prince's label "Paisley Park Records" offered her a contract and she was on her way. Before long, she posed for Playboy, and was working in television as an actress on MTV Singled Out and the long running series, Baywatch.

There isn't much she hasn't done. She was worked in numerous films, additional television shows, featured in comic books, video games... how's a girl to keep up?

Late in 2012, she decided to return to music with a single "I Like it Loud" which made it to the 25th spot on Billboards Dance Club Play Chart. This week, her second single "Bigger Dick" is debuting and I am sure everyone wants to know... who has the Bigger Dick?

RH: There are all kinds of questions that come to mind, but let's cut to the chase... what's the meaning of the new single "Bigger Dick"?

CE: I was getting ready to perform at White Party and was in rehearsal with dancers and friends and the song I had recorded didn't feel right for the show so we needed something really quick and it fell into place at the right time.

Listen to "Bigger Dick" here.

I had been venting about a couple current situations I had been in (i.e., man problems). I am the kind of person that never likes to judge people. I always try to give people chances. We all make mistakes. I love being around people and I love taking in people. I'm more of a caretaker kind of person. But just in the past few months I've had a couple of situations where I didn't feel appreciated at all. And I just felt the need to talk about it as I was so sick of allowing myself to be mistreated. I don't necessarily feel like everything has to go my way, but at some point we have to speak up or get rid of people in your life that treat you poorly. If you keep putting up with it it's your fault.

At the same time, one of my girlfriends was going through an abusive relationship and her spirit was broken. She was physically and verbally abused and I just couldn't believe it. She is so beautiful and has so much talent, but for some reason she couldn't let go of this guy. He was definitely taking advantage of her. I was like "Girl come on wake up!!"

Let's face it; it's been a man's world for a long time now, but not anymore. Women are coming up and taking over, and 'Bigger Dick' speaks that in a fun, cheeky way. It's a metaphor, obviously. All in fun, not to be taken too seriously

RH: Why have you stayed away from music for so long?

CE: I've wanted to get back into music for quite some time. It has been a passion of mine ever since the experience with Prince. It just seemed like my life went down another path and kept me away but I have yearned to get back to it. Working with the Pussycat Dolls reminded me this is what I really love to do. Soon after that I recorded an EP but there were some issues with the project and it just went away.

This time I was around the right group of people; new friends, new co workers who have known me for years and know that music is my passion and pushed me back towards this. I am glad I did. I had a good time doing it.

After "I Like it Loud" debuted I was booked to perform in NY with Cyndi Lauper on a lot of talk shows. I'm going with the flow! It goes to show when you put your mind to something you can do it.

RH: Tell me about your upcoming performance at Life Ball in Vienna? How did you get involved and what can audiences expect?

CE: Its very glamorous and is a great cause! I'm doing a runway show for Cavalli. Fergie will be there too! I'm super excited. Life Ball benefits AIDS and HIV. Everyone is donating their time. It's very touching. I am looking forward to putting on a really fun show.

RH: With all you have accomplished, is there anything left to try?

CE: I haven't been a mom... it's something that I've always wanted to do. I love children and being around children. It's a very freeing thing for me. It brings me a lot of happiness.

Carmen, I look forward to hearing about that next chapter in your life.

"Bigger Dick" is now available via iTunes.

You Won't Believe How Much She Gets Paid To Tweet

When Kim Kardashian tweeted earlier this week "Pregnancy lips.... @EOS to the rescue! LOL" along with a photo of her using eos lip balm, we couldn't help but wonder -- what's in it for her, really? Eos clearly benefits from having a high-profile celebrity use their product, but is Kim getting anything in return?

Though it is unclear if the Kardashian sister is in business with the cosmetics company, one thing is for sure: When Kim signs on to be a sponsored tweeter/publisher for a company, the brand gets a ton of exposure, and she gets a hefty paycheck in return. Such is the deal with sponsored tweets, just as with any other endorsement: Companies that sign celebrities on expect to extend their reach, captivate the celebrity's fan base, and maximize results.

That's where startups such as IZEA and Adly come in. They match advertisers with celebrities based on content, desired audience, and number of followers the famous face has. The Kardashians make sense when it comes to beauty products; Justin Bieber urging his Beliebers to send flowers to their mothers on Mother's Day? Believable; Charlie Sheen linked with Internships.com? Plausible, and certainly happened.

Though Kim in particular doesn't disclose her asking price to the press, speculations put her price tag at $20,000 per tweet. Per. Tweet. Sister Khloe clocks in at "just" $13,000 per sponsored tweet.

PHOTO: This Is What Miranda Kerr Looks Like When She Wakes Up In The Morning

0

We've already come to terms with the fact that models are superhuman creatures who have the ability to look perfect no matter the circumstances (even if they're in the process of getting frostbite). But to discover that they look stunning from the moment they open their eyes in the morning? That's just too much.

Miranda Kerr gave her own little humblebrag when she posted a selfie to her Instagram account captioned "Good Morning." Appearing to have just woken up, the Aussie model posed in bed and was basically the picture of fresh-faced beauty. But hey, don't stress -- not every model is blessed with decidedly un-puffy morning faces. Cindy Crawford once quipped to Redbook magazine, "I always say even I don't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford!"

While we doubt that Cindy, like Miranda, could ever look less than stunning, we're definitely giving some thought to the idea of embracing our own barefaced looks. Because if supermodels can teach us anything, it's that confidence goes a long way.

'Friends' Star Reveals Past Drug Addiction

0
0

Behind the comedic one-liners and witty sarcasm, Chandler Bing was hiding a secret -- the actor playing the famous sitcom character on "Friends" was battling serious addiction issues.

Matthew Perry revealed to ABC News Wednesday morning that he struggled with depression, alcohol and prescription drug abuse throughout his tenure on the show, which went off the air in 2004, and beyond. Looking back, Perry said he was "a sick guy" and was sent to rehab multiple times as a result.

"Mostly it was drinking, you know, and opiates," Perry told ABC. "I think I was pretty good at hiding it but, you know, eventually people were aware."

The media regularly covered his addiction as well as his weight and appearance fluctuations, which something a now-sober Perry said aided in his recovery.

Since that time, the 43-year-old has made a mission of helping other addicts find their own paths to sobriety. After joining forces with addiction specialist Earl Hightower, he transformed his former place in Malibu, California into a sober living home for men called the Perry House. Perry and Hightower were honored earlier this month with the Champion of Recovery award from the Obama Administration's Office of National Drug Control Policy.

"We're award-winning alcoholics," Perry joked.

Mark O'Connell, L.C.S.W.: Michael Douglas Liberates as Liberace

0
0

Behind the Candelabra, Steven Soderberg's highly buzzed-about final bow, starring Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his lover, Scott Thorson, has arrived on HBO, and it has made Douglas' father uncomfortable. In an interview with ABC, Douglas said, "My father was uncomfortable with--," before pausing. With what? With the furs and makeout scenes, to which the press constantly, anxiously directs our attention? Not exactly. The actor continued: "With my death scene." Douglas had been diagnosed with stage-4 throat cancer prior to filming Candelabra, so his mortality was understandably on his father's mind. But with all the talk of these "brave" straight actors stepping into "flamboyant" roles, Douglas' poignant admission may clarify the discomfort this film more generally evokes, revealing what lies beneath (or behind) male anxieties about homosexuality, feminine behaviors or anything we associate with vulnerability: the fear of death.

Fear of death "will culminate in a disparagement of the feminine," writes professor Jerry S. Piven, explaining that internal conflicts that men have about women (e.g., lust vs. rejection, love vs. loss, power vs. vulnerability, etc.) are often "displaced onto those feared and detested women, and they become sirens, murderous temptresses ... while the men gain moral victory." Ironically, two of Michael Douglas' iconic characters are seduced by "murderous temptresses," in Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct. So when the press marvels at his "risky"/"risqué" turn in Candelabra, it may have less to do with him kissing a man than with his willful and thorough embodiment of a "temptress" (a seductively feminine rather than victoriously masculine character) and the great vulnerability he reveals, which we've never before seen from him. Perhaps it's no accident that he embraces this effeminate role at a time when he has no choice but to confront his own mortality.

Douglas gives an emboldened performance, and though he consistently moves and speaks with a mellifluous, feminine sensuality throughout the film, what's most uncanny is that he seems to be playing Michael Douglas. Rather than impersonate his sparkly subject superficially, his flame is lit from within, and as if by anesthetizing his own famously gruff, straight-leading-man-persona, he exposes a playful, gentle, compassionate version of himself. (Watching him in the role, one imagines that he understands Liberace's vanity and struggle between public and private life much more deeply than initially meets the eye). As the complicated, glitzy piano man, Douglas is confidently life-affirming and love-affirming and boldly death-aware, reminding us, by contrast, that when we limit our expressive possibilities, we deny ourselves access to such empathy and creativity, instead perpetuating fear and hate (of death, of women and of those more vulnerable than ourselves).

Do all men have to wait for death to flutter so close to be allowed such freedom? Douglas praises his co-star, Matt Damon, for risking "career death" and taking an effeminate, gay role while still in his prime, but Damon is an outlier among his peers, and films about gay, effeminate or just plain vulnerable men are nearly nonexistent, even to this day. (Behind the Candelabra was turned down by every major film studio.) Are men and boys expected to limit their expression to forms of dominance and aggression until death taps on their doors?

Here we might consider the great resources within women: the willingness to play a range of emotions and gendered behaviors onscreen among them. Studies show that women cope with stress, grief and loss more openly and seek support (including mental health treatment) more frequently than men do, suggesting that they generally have a stronger grasp on researcher Brene Brown's conclusion that "[v]ulnerability is not weakness. Vulnerability is courage." If we allowed more men to believe those words, we might see fewer of them anxiously grasping at illusions of virility and impenetrability, as if to cheat death. We might see less aggression and derision at the expense of women, gay men, effeminate men and emotionally sensitive men. For example, when Ben Affleck presented an award to his good friend Damon before filming for Candelabra began, he felt the compulsion to facetiously impersonate Damon's father, saying, "Terrific, Matt. I can't wait to see you up there blowing Michael Douglas under a piano." In contrast, Candelabra producer Jerry Weintraub says that while on set during a sex scene between Damon and Douglas, he turned anxiously to Damon's mother, who simply stated, "That was beautiful."

Hopefully we won't view this as a masculine/feminine divide for long. The new Star Trek film, for example, indicates that men embracing vulnerability could be the way of the future. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto (as Kirk and Spock, respectively) give wonderfully sensitive performances, and although we are reminded that their characters are both unquestionably straight (Kirk constantly flirts with every species of female, while Spock frequently kisses Zoe Saldana), the film is undeniably centered on the love story (or "bromance," if you like) between the two men, both of them affected and changed by the possibility of the other's death. This focus on a male/male emotional relationship only strengthens the story rather than weakening it, allowing both actors to play a variety of emotions, freely and without restraint. We can see more of this if we allow it. Men don't have to be at death's door, or play the most bedazzled guy who ever was, in order to express themselves with emotional freedom.

Michael Douglas' performance as Liberace is vital, revealing what is possible beyond fear of loss, fear of emasculation or fear of death. Maybe soon we'll see more leading men playing emotionally diverse roles and more films about women and gender-nonconforming people, and maybe more of these people will be able to play themselves. As for the rest of us, perhaps we'll risk more discomfort as we perform our own lives, enriching them with vulnerability rather than enshrouding them in fear.

This piece first appeared in Mark O'Connell's column, "Quite Queerly," on PsychologyToday.com.

Is it just us, or is Selena Gomez growing up to be one stylish diva?

The 20-year-old stopped by MuchMusic headquarters in Toronto, Canada, yesterday for an interview and a performance. She chose to flaunt her slim features and show off her toned tummy in a knitted crop top, checkered pants, sandals and suspenders, which make for an ... ehm ... original choice.

The young stunner, who will go on tour later this summer, has recently performed at several big shows -- such as the 2013 Radio Disney Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She also drew some fire for yet another original piece of attire: The sparkling bindi she wore on her head for her performance at the MTV Movie Awards.

On par with her skyrocketing status, Justin Bieber's on-again off-again girlfriend is also rumored to inherit Mariah Carey or Nicki Minaj's seat on "American Idol" next season.
