'The Big Bang Theory': Sheldon And Amy Have 'Sex'

$

What at first seemed like an episode that would separate the girls and the boys on "The Big Bang Theory" instead turned into a strange game of Dungeons & Dragons that they all "enjoyed" together. Sheldon was certainly enjoying Howard's first time as dungeon master, though this was primarily because of his celebrity impressions.

Things got to be a little too much, though, when the gang decided that since Sheldon and Amy aren't going to be physically intimate in the real world anytime soon, perhaps their characters should be. And so the other characters threw a love spell on them.

Thinking they were making fun of her, Amy ran off to Sheldon's room. He followed her -- because the others told him he should -- where he told her that he thought their non-sexual relationship was very intimate. As weird as it was, it was a sincere moment for him.

Then, as if to meet her halfway, Sheldon decided that they should at least follow the course of the game and have their characters address that love potion situation ... alone together in his room, which TV.com thought was a nice touch. “It drove home the point that Amy and Sheldon's sex life is just as personal and valid as those of any of the other couples without being forced to turn the act of RPS (role-playing sex) into either a completely serious or a completely comedic activity.”

The AV Club thought this was a "big step" for Sheldon, proving that he could be intimate. Could physical intimacy be on the horizon? Will we see a kiss in next week's season finale?

Come back and find out on the season finale of "The Big Bang Theory," next Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Watch Tobey Maguire's Made-For-TV Debut On 'Kimmel'

Tobey Maguire talked about his first big acting gig on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." He had to fight for it, but he was cast in the made-for-TV movie, "Tales from the Whoop: Hot Rod Brown, Class Clown." The titular "Whoop" was none other than Whoopi Goldberg, which isn't a bad co-star for your big break.

Maguire played a high school kid who learns his own value with the thanks of his guardian angel, played by Goldberg. But he almost didn't get the role for the 1990 special. He said the director originally wanted to go with a more "seasoned" child actor, but Maguire told him that sometimes in life it's good to take a chance. The director did, and Maguire's career has only skyrocketed since then.

Of course, even though he's a big star now doesn't mean he got to avoid taking a visual trip down memory lane. Of course Jimmy Kimmel had a clip from the television special. Fans eager to have this piece of film history will have to settle for it on VHS, where it's available on Amazon for the reasonable price of $1.74.

That's cheaper than heading to theaters to see Tobey Maguire in "The Great Gatsby," though we suspect his newer project is probably a stronger cinematic achievement than his inauspicious beginnings.

Come back for more laughs with "Jimmy Kimmel Live" every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.

Edie Falco Fears Having To Be A Waitress Again Someday

Edie Falco and Chelsea Handler bonded over horror stories from their time in the trenches of the food industry on "Chelsea Lately." Both women had been waitresses at earlier points in their lives, and that's a pretty thankless job much of the time.

One thing they agreed on was that they both absolutely hated that job. Falco said that a customer once tipped her by throwing pennies at her face, though she qualified it by saying that she probably deserved it. She described herself as an "awful, rude and mean" waitress.

"Meanwhile, I still walk by restaurants that are busy and think, well that’s a good lunch crowd! So, if things get really bad, this is a place to apply," Falco said.

She said she can't get those thoughts out of her head, though it's hard to imagine either woman reaching a point in their careers where they have to wait tables again.

At least for now, Falco is far too busy. Her Showtime series, "Nurse Jackie" is going strong in Season 5, Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, "Chelsea Lately" is a solid hit for E! every weeknight at 11 p.m. ET.

__________________________________________

Women are not crazy for wanting to have a discussion about body image. And the conversation isn't as superficial as the one Dove keeps encouraging us to have. It is a conversation about sexism and racism. It is a conversation about the real reason we try to shrink our waists and whiten our teeth (and sometimes even our skin). Most of the time we don't do those things to make ourselves happy, we do them for someone else. I think we should start talking about that.

The easiest place to see discrimination is our incomes. Modeling is one of the few professions where women actually out-earn men. And across all jobs, studies have found that more attractive women earn more. A woman's value is too often skin-deep. In 2004 a study found that resumes with very African-American-sounding names were 50 percent less likely to get called for an initial interview. And racial bias in salaries is overwhelming. While white women make an average of 78 cents for every man's dollar, for African-American women that number drops to 62 cents, and for Hispanic women to 54 cents.

Unfortunately, the industry with the most potential to change this reality is also a site where women have little access. In the media, where we can powerfully perpetuate as well as undermine damaging stereotypes, both coverage and employment are hard to come by (The OpEd Project).

Most of the time we don't do those things to make ourselves happy, we do them for someone else. I think we should start talking about that. -- Cameron Russell

Physical appearance plays an enormous role in who gets seen. When women and other marginalized groups do get access to the media, they often have to fit into a narrow definition of what the people in charge are looking for. Women, for example, are more likely to be portrayed as victims when they get news coverage, and are more likely to be depicted wearing sexy clothing when they are cast in Hollywood's leading roles.

I've experienced this first hand. During the last couple months of press around my TEDx talk, when I've suggested that TV producers include more women in discussions around access to media, they wanted to see headshots. (Not bios, or clips, or anything a sane person curating a panel would ask for.) And while last year women wrote just 20 percent of all op-eds, over the last month I have been invited to contribute more op-eds than I have time to write. Many an editor has made it clear why I've been invited to contribute. "We sought you out because of how you look," one put bluntly.

Women are often worried about how they look and that's not superficial. We know that our appearance has nothing to do with how smart, creative, or hardworking we are, but it plays powerfully into what society decides we are worth. There are healthy ways to have this dialogue. A good place to start is inviting those who are marginalized and discriminated against into the conversation more often.

Get Ready For More 'Revenge'

"Revenge" has been renewed for a third season.

After two seasons of drama, backstabbing and death, ABC has officially given Season 3 of "Revenge" the green light.

The newly-renewed "Revenge" follows Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), whose father was framed for a crime he did not commit, sent to prison for life, and later murdered in the prison. She returns to the Hamptons, intent on getting revenge on those who wronged her and her father -- with the help of her right-hand man Nolan Ross (Gabriel Mann) -- and at the top of her list is Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe).

Mann tweeted excitedly to fans when "Revenge's" renewal was announced:

Season 2 of "Revenge" premiered to 9.74 million viewers, and ratings have remained solid throughout the fall and spring episodes. Despite the success of "Revenge," in April showrunner Mike Kelley announced he would be stepping down from the series.

"In a difficult mutual decision between myself and ABC studios, the end of my current contract will mark my final season as showrunner for 'Revenge,'" Kelley said in a statement. "Helming this series has been the ride of a lifetime."

Mann opened up about the showrunner switch on HuffPost Live recently, saying, "As a cast, we're still all processing that information right now ... Mike is the mad genius behind this whole show and obviously, there's a lot of nostalgia for all the time that we've spent together and what has been created as a group, but ... we have an amazing creative team behind the scenes and, by in large, I think that team will continue to stay in place."

Though this was before "Revenge" was renewed, Mann explained, "Going forward, I think a Season 3 on 'Revenge' may look a little bit different than a Season 1 or 2. But that's the nature of the beast."

Other shows weren't as lucky as "Revenge." ABC canceled "Body Of Proof," "Happy Endings," "How To Live With Your Parents," "Malibu Country" and "Red Widow," which join the previously canceled "666 Park Avenue," "Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23," "Last Resort," "Private Practice" and "Zero Hour." On a more positive note, the network renewed "Castle," "Grey's Anatomy," "Last Man Standing," "The Middle," "Modern Family," "Nashville," "Once Upon A Time," "Scandal" and "Suburgatory." ABC has not confirmed the reported fates of "Family Tools" and "The Neighbors."

ABC picked up a number of comedies for the 2013-2014 season: "Super Fun Night" starring Rebel Wilson; ensemble "Mixology"; Malin Akerman's "Trophy Wife"; family comedy "The Goldbergs" and "Back in the Game" starring James Caan. On the drama side, in addition to "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," ABC picked up spinoff "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland"; drama "The Returned"; David Zabel's "Lucky 7" and "Betrayal"; the Christian Slater/Steve Zahn vehicle "Mind Games" and Sofia Vergara-produced "Killer Women."

"Modern Family" has been renewed for a fifth season because ABC (and audiences) just can't get enough of the Dunphys.

Starring Ty Burrell, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and more, "Modern Family" centers on a hilariously unconventional family wading their way through the trials and tribulations of life.

"Modern Family's" renewal was in the bag. The comedy has seen strong ratings since it's 2009 premiere, and has only increased in viewership over the years. Season 4 is currently averaging 13 million viewers.

In addition to "Modern Family," the network renewed "Castle," "Grey's Anatomy," "Last Man Standing," "The Middle," "Nashville," "Once Upon A Time," "Revenge," "Scandal" and "Suburgatory." ABC canceled an additional five series from the 2012-2013 season: "Body Of Proof," "Happy Endings," "How To Live With Your Parents," "Malibu Country" and "Red Widow," which join the previously canceled "666 Park Avenue," "Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23," "Last Resort," "Private Practice" and "Zero Hour."ABC has not confirmed the reported fates of "Family Tools" and "The Neighbors."

'How To Live With Your Parents' Has Died

"How To Live With Your Parents" has been canceled.

ABC has decided not to pick up the comedy, which starred Sarah Chalke as a newly-divorced mom who moves back in with her mom (Elizabeth Perkins) and step-father (Brad Garrett), for a second season.

Creator Claudia Lonow, whose life inspired "How To Live With Your Parents," tweeted about the cancellation with some humor:

"How To Live With Your Parents" -- shortened from "How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life)" -- made its debut in April and boasted a pretty impressive 8.44 million total viewers and 2.9 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. With the exception of one episode, "How To Live With Your Parents" performed pretty well, mainly staying above a 2.0 rating and 6 million total viewers, a vast improvement from "Don't Trust The B**** In Apartment 23," which was cancelled in its sophomore season earlier this year.

"How To Live With Your Parents" had been on the cancellation bubble throughout its short run and the show's fate was a true toss up.

Chalke, who was last a series regular on NBC's "Scrubs," talked to The Huffington Post about her return to TV before "How To Live" premiered. "When I read the script, I just had a similar feeling about the pilot as I did when I read the 'Scrubs' pilot," the actress said. "I mean, I've read a lot of pilots in between and I just loved the balance that it had between being funny and having heart. I felt like I really connected with the characters when I read it and I also laughed out loud."

"How To Live With Your Parents" is hardly the only show ABC canceled. The network also axed "Body Of Proof," "Happy Endings," "Malibu Country" and "Red Widow," which join the previously canceled "666 Park Avenue," "Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23," "Last Resort," "Private Practice" and "Zero Hour." On a more positive note, the network renewed "Castle," "Grey's Anatomy," "Last Man Standing," "The Middle," "Modern Family," "Nashville," "Once Upon A Time," "Revenge," "Scandal" and "Suburgatory." ABC has not confirmed the reported fates of "Family Tools" and "The Neighbors."

ABC also picked up a number of comedies for the 2013-2014 season: "Super Fun Night" starring Rebel Wilson; ensemble "Mixology"; Malin Akerman's "Trophy Wife"; family comedy "The Goldbergs" and "Back in the Game" starring James Caan. Prince Harry Charms Crowd At Sedalia Golf Club

SEDALIA, Colo. — Britain's Prince Harry charmed dozens of dignitaries, British expatriates, students and military officers at a cocktail party welcoming him to Colorado Friday night and then joined the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to Olympian Missy Franklin, who was celebrating her 18th birthday.

Harry went table-to-table for about an hour at the party at the Sanctuary Golf Club south of Denver. He asked Franklin, attending with her parents, for a rundown of her medals while he took some ribbing about the shrieking female fans who greeted his arrival in Washington from U.S. Reps. Cory Gardner and Mike Coffman.

At one table on the patio looking out over the rolling hills toward Pike's Peak, Harry said he was glad to see a group of Americans and Britons having Pimm's Cups, summery English drinks, together.

Deborah Read Fowler, a Briton living in Colorado, said the prince had obviously done his research about the company they all worked for.

"And he goes to Afghanistan. How can you not respect that?" she said.

His effect on the ladies was on display in a more muted way here.

Several men brought their 20-something daughters to the reception. And when Harry went over to meet members of the band, two members acknowledged they were too overwhelmed to really carry on a conversation.

University of Denver students Jenna Bainbridge of Castle Rock and Samantha Barrasso of Aurora said the prince jokingly asked them what performers they were better than.

"He's very charismatic. He obviously doesn't hide his personality. And he's handsome, so that doesn't hurt," Bainbridge said.

Harry is in Colorado to attend the Warrior Games this weekend in Colorado Springs. More than 200 wounded servicemen and women from the U.S. and Britain will participate.

The visit is part of a weeklong visit to the United States that will also include trips to parts of New Jersey damaged by Superstorm Sandy. He'll end his trip by playing in the Sentebale Polo Cup match in Greenwich, Conn.

Harry recently spent 20 weeks in Afghanistan as co-pilot gunner on an Apache attack helicopter and has been a big supporter of charities to help wounded service members.

On Saturday he'll attend the opening ceremonies for the Warrior Games at the Olympic Training Center. That event is closed to the public but spectators are welcome to attend the event competitions, which are free, starting Sunday. Harry is scheduled to attend Sunday's public cycling event at the Air Force Academy.

He plans another outing with wounded military personnel later this year when he participates in the South Pole Allied Challenge. Teams from Britain, Australia, Britain, Canada and the United States will race 208 miles to the pole.

Deep V-Neck Dresses In This Week's Dangerous Outfits

$

This week, in "Dangerous Outfits," a new player entered the game and created quite a stir: The deep v-neck dress. Amidst the usual sheer and cut-outs we see each week, Gal Gardot and Solange Knowles broke the mold and successfully took the plunge with v-neck dresses. Knowles went with a more casual turn, while Gardot gave the look a sultry twist in a sexy skin-tight gown.

But those were the successful fashion risks -- wait until you see the mishaps, which were quite extreme. Courtney Stodden wore... something ... we are not entirely sure what to call it. Lisa Maria Falcone majorly stumbled when she forgot that the while the Met Gala is a place to experiment with daring fashion, it's still a pretty conservative event.

Prince Harry In Colorado For Warrior Games

DENVER -- Britain's Prince Harry, a veteran combat helicopter pilot, is meeting with wounded servicemen and women competing in the paralympic-style Warrior Games in Colorado.

The prince plans to attend the opening ceremonies Saturday at the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs, chat with the United Kingdom's team and watch a volleyball match. He'll also watch a cycling competition on Sunday.

The visit got under way Friday night when Harry charmed dozens of dignitaries, British expatriates, students and military officers at a cocktail party welcoming him to Colorado. He also joined the crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to Olympian Missy Franklin, who was celebrating her 18th birthday at a golf club south of Denver.

A captain in Britain's Army Air Corps, Harry has deployed to Afghanistan twice. He's attending the Colorado games because he believes the wounded deserve recognition, according to a statement from St. James' Palace in London, the official residence of the royal family.

"He has said before how humbled he feels by the extraordinary courage and fortitude shown by those servicemen and women who have made huge sacrifices for their country, and to whom we all owe a considerable debt of gratitude," the statement said.

Harry returned to Britain in January after a 20-week deployment to Afghanistan as a co-pilot and gunner on an Apache helicopter.

He acknowledged to reporters he had targeted Taliban fighters, and when asked if he had killed anyone, said, "Yeah, so, lots of people have."

His first deployment to Afghanistan, as a forward air controller in 2007-2008, was cut short after 10 weeks when details of his whereabouts were disclosed in the media.

He caused a scandal on his last trip to the U.S. when he was photographed frolicking nude with an unidentified woman in a Las Vegas hotel suite in August.

"It was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince," he said afterward.

The Warrior Games run through Thursday. They also include basketball, shooting, archery, swimming and track and field. About 260 athletes are expected.

Jada Pinkett Smith: Open Marriage Rumors Are 'Quite Easy Obstacles'

$
0
0

NEW YORK — Jada Pinkett Smith may have started as an actress, but these days her list of jobs includes author, singer-songwriter, philanthropist, successful businesswoman – and, of course, wife and mother.

With husband Will Smith, she started Overbrook Entertainment, which has produced many of Smith's films, as well as the upcoming remake of "Annie." But Pinkett Smith's more recent focus has been the documentary "Free Angela Davis and Other Political Prisoners," which marks the 40th anniversary of the acquittal of the 1970s political activist who once on the FBI's Most Wanted list.

Davis was removed from her teaching job at UCLA in 1969 because she was a member of the Communist Party. A year later, she was charged with murder and kidnapping in a shootout in front of the Marin County, Calif., courthouse, then acquitted by an all-white jury.

"I watched it and I thought I knew the Angela Davis story, and I even thought that I knew a lot about that era, and I didn't," she said. "And I was just amazed that I didn't know more, that it was my right to have a thorough understanding of such a pivotal figure like Angela Davis and what that era was."

Pinkett Smith says she not only learned a lot from spending time with the Davis, who was by her side for this interview, but she grew as a person. Pinkett Smith is trying to spread that kind of growth to others, especially via social media, where she frequently posts on thought-provoking issues, like blended families, bullying and more.

In a recent interview, the 41-year-old spoke candidly about her many roles, from the acting world to the one she's most proud of – as family matriarch.

AP: What did you know about Angela Davis growing up?

Pinkett Smith: Oh absolutely, I knew that she was a pivotal part of the movement and I knew that she was powerful and I knew that she was intelligent, but what I didn't receive was the beauty of her feminine side, you know, and her softness, and the strength in her vulnerable nature... I've learned a lot just simply being in her presence in that way, knowing that even in my own experiences, to be able to obtain a perspective that allows me to allow my experiences to deepen me and broaden me and make me more and not decrease me. So I would say that has been a gift.

AP: You seem quite comfortable sharing your views on social media – you recently asked whether white women should be allowed on the cover of black women's magazines.

Pinkett Smith: One of the reasons that I did that is right now one of my very strong very focus at this point is trying to figure out how to engage women to flow power to one another. The idea is that there's a white woman's issue. Or there's a black woman's issue. There's a Latina woman's issue. The idea for women to understand is that if we could come together and flow each other power for issues that affect us all, that we would get a lot done. ...

These are subjects that we can't be afraid to talk about because they hurt. That's the step toward getting to solutions, and the step toward community. I don't get afraid in talking about subject matter that may spark controversy and I'm not afraid to not be liked. I think that sometimes people pay too much attention to being liked and it's paralyzing. I think that if we can respect one another, we always have to keep respect in. But I'm not expecting people to like me all the time. I've gotten out of that chain and ball (laughs) ball and chain of wanting to liked, because there are things we have to talk about that aren't easy.

AP: Your Overbrook Entertainment has been successful; tell me about your partnerships?

Pinkett Smith: What I love about our alliance with Jay Z is that we have a beautiful time going into business together which I think is a beautiful thing to show. ... Jay is always calling us and we're always calling him. Our next endeavor right now is "Annie." That's the next movie for us.

AP: Wasn't Willow supposed to star in "Annie"?

Pinkett Smith: She was supposed to star in "Annie" and Willow has decided not to. ... She decided that she wants to be 12 and says right now she's really concentrating on music skills. She's taking piano lessons, taking her singing lessons every day and writing. She's really just developing herself. ... She's taking her time to develop her skills, so when she feels like people are ready to know the real Willow, then she will make a comeback.

AP: As an actress, businesswoman, and the matriarch of a high-profile family, how do you deal with the constant rumors about you and Will?

Pinket Smith: They're quite easy obstacles. When I really think about what people are going through in the world today, and dealing with people's speculations is one thing. And knowing simply that that's all that it is. (laughs) When you're living your truth and you understand your truth, things get very easy. They get less complicated at least, so I'm very blessed. I am very blessed, so speculations I can deal with.

Will The 'RHONY' Stay Or Will They Go?

The future of "Real Housewives of New York City" is in question.

A salary standoff between the ladies -- Ramona Singer, LuAnn de Lesseps, Carole Radziwill, Sonja Morgan, Aviva Dresher and Heather Thomson -- and Bravo emerged with the network threatening to cancel the series if the women didn't sign on for Season 6.

According to the New York Post, Ramona rallied the women to sign on the dotted line at the last minute, but Carole and Heather have not.

Carole took to Twitter to discuss the negotiations. The other women have been mum.

The Post reports Heather won't do the series without Carole and Carole is on the fence. "Producers would not have accepted one girl without the other. It is an ensemble cast. They told the girls if both Carole and Heather don’t sign together, the show won’t move forward,” a source told the Post.

Bravo did not return request for comment.

'Great' Summer Kicks Off For Isla Fisher

LAS VEGAS -- Now you see her – twice.

Yes, that's Isla Fisher appearing in two of the first major films of the summer-movie season: the latest adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" as well as the crime caper "Now You See Me."

"It's really exciting," Fisher says. "I guess I don't feel any pressure because I'm not the lead in either movie."

In "Gatsby," she's the ill-fated Myrtle Wilson – logging precious, but little, screen time. In "Now You See Me," Fisher plays one of a quartet of magicians who use their talents to take back money from immoral millionaires and return it to the people they bilked. The film boasts an all-star cast, including Morgan Freeman and Woody Harrelson. "And Mark Ruffalo is chasing after us, and Melanie Laurent and Michael Caine," she added in a recent interview. "(It's) basically a lot of people nominated for Oscars – and then me, a SAG member, committing these heists."

During filming of "Now You See Me," Fisher (whose first name is pronounced "EYE"-luh) had a close call.

"I was chained under water," the 37-year-old Australian-raised actress recalled. "I had a quick release on my wrists and a quick release on my feet, but the chain that was tying my wrists to my ankles ... It got looped around the bottom of the tank. I'd already been under for two-and-a-half minutes, and I couldn't get up for air. And I did have a moment of, just, `Oh my gosh. Not in a swimming costume. No one wants to go in a swimming costume."

Fisher, who has two children with actor-husband Sacha Baron Cohen, seemed poised for name-above-the-title stardom after a breakout performance in the 2005 comedy "Wedding Crashers" and headlining the 2010 comedy "Confessions of a Shopaholic," which grossed more than $100 million worldwide.

But that success did not catapult her to leading-lady stardom. Instead, she's stayed steadily employed as a working character actress. "I naturally gravitate towards people who don't mind getting ugly," FIsher responded. "That's why I think I've not really enjoyed the `ingenue' road, or at least it has not been offered to me, because I'm willing to pull a bad face, and to sweat a bit. Or glow."

"The Great Gatsby" opened Friday. "Now You See Me" opens May 31.

LONDON -- The next "Star Wars" movie will be shot in a galaxy far, far away from Hollywood – Britain.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy says the company has reached a deal with British Treasury chief George Osborne to make "Star Wars: Episode VII" in the U.K.

She said Friday that the production company was "revisiting the origins of `Star Wars'" for the new movie. Parts of all six previous movies were made in Britain.

Osborne said the announcement was "great news for fans and our creative industries."

"Star Wars" maker Lucasfilm was bought last year for $4.05 billion by The Walt Disney Co., which has announced plans for a new trilogy of films.

The first new movie, directed by sci-fi wunderkind J.J. Abrams ("Star Trek"), is due for release in 2015.

When we turned 18, we got a really pretty pair of earrings for our birthday. Can you imagine what it must be like to get a PRINCE as your gift instead?!

After melting hearts in Washington, D.C., our beloved Prince Harry traveled to Sedalia, Colorado, the next stop along his US tour. The "Veronica Mars" movie cast is growing: Enrico Colantoni has officially signed on to reprise the role of Keith Mars, Veronica's father.

So far the cast of the "Veronica Mars" movie includes Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring and Colantoni. Additional casting is expected with production set to begin in Los Angeles in June.

Series creator Rob Thomas and Colantoni released this video following the casting announcement.

In an email to "Veronica Mars" movie backers, Thomas praised Colantoni. "I didn't write Keith Mars with Rico in mind, but when his name came up on a casting list, I said, 'That's the guy,'" he wrote. "We didn't take anyone else to network. There was no plan B."

Colantoni also released a video to fans following his casting announcement.

WATCH: Is THIS The Best Dress For Full-Figured Kym Whitley?

As a Hollywood actress and comedienne, Kym Whitley is no stranger to the red carpet. Whether she's wearing a little black dress or a full-length gown, Kym knows what styles she likes and what flatters her full figure -- or so she thinks, says her close friend and fashion enthusiast Wendell James.

In this clip from "Raising Whitley," Wendell insists on helping Kym find the perfect red-carpet-worthy dress for an event. "You should not be your own stylist," he says to Kym, looking her up and down. "Wendell James is fashion."

Wendell immediately grabs a garment bag that he believes contains the dress for Kym. "Are you ready to see something classy?" he asks her. To the camera, Wendell says, "I got Kym a dress that will lay on her like butter!"

But will Kym agree? "I love this. I'm going to look like a shiny whale," she deadpans.

Despite Wendell's protests, Kym continues to compare herself to aquatic creatures. "A big fish," she suggests. "How about a big-breasted snake?"

Part of her resistance toward the dress, she explains, is that it looks like it will be difficult for a fuller-figured gal to wear. "It's so much easier when you're a size two or three to just slip on anything," Kym says. "But a big girl, sometimes you've got to strap some stuff down! I've got to strap, tape, hook, lay down [and] glue over just to fit in certain things."

Wendell has a solution for that, too, he says ... albeit an unconventional one. Watch the rest of the video to hear his plan to make Kym's waist look like a size two and see if she's up for the challenge.

"Raising Whitley" airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.

Christian Students Strike Back At Singer Who Slammed School's Anti-Gay Policies

Musician Josh Ritter, who refused to perform again at a private Christian college because of the school's anti-gay beliefs, is now the target of backlash from students who say they and their school are not homophobic.

Ritter defended gay rights in a Facebook post criticizing Messiah College, a private school in Mechanicsburg, Pa., that embraces the "evangelical spirit rooted" in Christian traditions. In his May 4 post, Ritter blasted the school as anti-gay after discovering a school-wide document called the "Community Covenant."

Messiah College requires all students to sign a "Community Covenant" promising to, among other things, “avoid such sinful practices as…homosexual behavior….” This policy, which I see as exclusionary and bigoted, could not run more counter to my personal beliefs. If I had done my homework, and read about Messiah's policies ahead of time, I would never have agreed to play there.

Ritter -- who performed at the school on May 4 -- continued by saying he would not play at Messiah College again until the school welcomes all Christians, gay or straight. He plans to donate the fees he received for the performance to suicide-prevention group the Trevor Project.

Messiah students are now striking back at Ritter saying their school is actually an accepting place.

"[Y]ou have succeeded to put all of us Messiah students in a box, when in reality this characterization couldn't be further from the truth. The student body here is a diverse group, many of which are passionate for seeing change happen within the schools policies regarding homosexual behavior," wrote one Facebook user. "Your words are hurtful to many of us here who do not apply to the group you called out."

"I love Messiah, and I love my faith, but I also believe that everyone has the right to love who they love and to be with you makes them happy," wrote another. "If you ask around campus, there are many things that students generally disagree with in the Community Covenant."

Messiah has a copy of the "Community Covenant" available online. This document, subtitled "All of Life Under the Lordship of Christ," says that the teachings of the scriptures apply to all those in the school community. Students are asked to avoid: drunkenness, stealing, dishonesty, profanity, occult practices, sexual intercourse outside of marriage, homosexual behavior, and sexually exploitative or abusive behavior.

A spokeswoman for Messiah told Christian magazine World on Campus that she was surprised Ritter wasn't familiar with the school's stance on sexuality until now, even though he performed there in 2009.

"We are a Christian college, we would think it wouldn't be surprising that we hold a traditional Scriptural interpretation of sexuality," Beth Lorow said. "We feel disappointed that he opted to publicly express his disagreement with name-calling and labeling and passed on doing it in a more productive way."

She said Ritter refused to speak to school administrators about his differing opinions and accused him of "not extending the openness and tolerance he spoke about to religious freedoms."

Thank Goodness This Isn't Your Mother

Need added reason to appreciate your mom this Mother's Day? Hollywood has the solution.

We've seen an abundance of wonderful mothers portrayed in movies, but perhaps those who stick with us best are the crazies -- the screaming, conniving, sometimes knife-wielding matriarchs who refuse to go unappreciated. We'll get another glimpse of the nuttiest of all mad mothers this October when Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore reprise Sissy Spacek's and Piper Laurie's Oscar-nominated roles from the original 1976 film "Carrie." In the meantime, Laurie will retain her title as the Worst Movie Mom Ever. Check out the video montage above for a look at her and other Hollywood mamas who come close.
